Lights Out

The candles flickered across the dinner table, casting long shadows against the walls of their apartment on the fourteenth floor. Camille had spent an hour preparing the salmon, setting out the good plates, pouring wine. She wanted this night to feel special. She wanted to feel something.

"The market is down three percent," Grant said, scrolling through his phone for the fourth time since they sat down. "I told you we should have sold last week."

She took a sip of wine and watched him over the rim of her glass. "We're having dinner, Grant."

"I know, I know." He set the phone face down, picked up his fork, stabbed at the vegetables. "It's just... you know how much I have riding on this."

Camille knew. She had memorized every contour of Grant's anxieties over five years, the way they surfaced in his voice, tightened his jaw, sent his fingers drumming against any surface within reach. The shape of his worry was familiar to her, worn smooth like a stone carried too long in a pocket.

"Eat your salmon," she said. "It'll get cold."

He smiled a thin nervous smile and chewed. She watched his jaw work, watched the slight tremor in his hand as he reached for his wine glass. He was a good man. A kind man who would never make her feel small. Never make her feel overwhelmed.

A man who would never make her feel claimed.

She pushed the thought away, focused on her own plate. The wine was dry, the salmon flaky. Outside the windows, the city glittered with a million lights, a living constellation of glass and steel.

Then the lights went out.

Not just their apartment. Everywhere. The city outside went dark, a sudden velvet void where the skyline had been. Inside, the candles became the only light, their flames dancing in the sudden stillness.

"What the hell?" Grant dropped his fork. It clattered against the plate.

Camille stood up, walked to the window. The view that had been a sea of lights was now an ocean of darkness. A few scattered flashlights flickered in neighboring windows. A siren wailed somewhere far below.

"The whole city is out," she said. She felt calm. Strange how calm she felt. The restlessness that had been gnawing at her for months quieted in the sudden emergency. She had a purpose now. Survival.

"What do we do?" Grant was already on his feet, pacing. "We've got no power, no way to cook, the fridge is going to go bad. What about water?"

"We have bottled water in the pantry. Remember the case I bought last month?"

"Right. Good thinking, Cami." He ran his hands through his thinning hair. "But how long will this last? What if it's days?"

"Then we figure it out." She turned from the window, faced him. "We're not helpless, Grant."

"I know, I just..." He gestured at the darkness around them. "This is a lot. We should call someone. The super, maybe?"

"The phones are probably down too."

"Right. Of course." He sat down heavily in his chair. "So we just wait?"

The knock at the door made them both jump.

Camille moved toward the entrance, her heart beating faster than she wanted to admit. She opened the door and looked up.

The man in the hallway was enormous. He filled the doorframe, a massive silhouette against the emergency lights that glowed dimly in the corridor. As he stepped forward, the candlelight from the apartment caught his face, his shaved head, his broad shoulders, the thick muscles of his arms visible even through his work jacket.

"Mr. and Mrs. Grant?" His voice was deep, a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the floor. "I'm Titus. Your building superintendent."

"Yes, of course," Grant said, stepping forward, extending his hand. "We were just talking about you."

Titus looked down at Grant's hand, then at Grant himself. The contrast was almost absurd. Grant slim, nervous, barely reaching the man's shoulder. Titus solid, unmoving, a statue carved from dark stone.

He took Grant's hand, shook it once, firmly. "I'm checking on all the residents. Bringing supplies to the ones who need it."

Camille saw the two water containers at his feet. Industrial sized, the kind used for construction sites. He must have carried them up fourteen flights of stairs. Both at once.

"You carried those up here?" She heard her own voice, surprised.

Titus turned his attention to her. His eyes were dark, steady, unreadable. "Stairs are the only option now. Elevator's dead."

She felt the weight of his gaze, the way it traveled over her face, her shoulders, her body in the thin sundress she had worn for the dinner she had planned. The fabric suddenly felt insubstantial, the thin straps exposing more skin than she had thought about when she'd chosen it. Heat rose to her cheeks, and something else stirred lower, a warmth she hadn't felt in months.

"Thank you," she managed. "For the water. That's very kind."

"Not kindness." He picked up the containers, stepped inside without being invited. "It's what I do. I take care of my building. That means taking care of the people in it."

He set the water down near the kitchen entrance, then pulled a small generator from a duffel bag she hadn't noticed he was carrying. "This is for you. Keeps the essentials running. Fridge, a few lights, a fan if it gets hot. Don't run it all night. Save the fuel."

"We don't know how to use a generator," Grant said, his voice tight.

Titus looked at him, a long steady look that made Grant take a step back. "I'll show you." He turned to Camille. "Ma'am, can you bring me a candle? I need light for the connections."

She grabbed a candle holder, the wax warm against her palm, and moved closer to where he was kneeling by the generator. The light fell across his back, the muscles shifting under his jacket as he worked. She watched his hands, thick fingers moving with surprising precision, connecting wires, testing switches. His forearms were dark, slick with a faint sheen of sweat from the climb, and she found herself wanting to trace the visible veins with her fingertips.

"There." He stood up. The generator hummed to life. A few dim lights flickered on in the apartment. "That should hold you for tonight. I'll bring more fuel in the morning."

"Thank you," she said again. She felt like she was saying the same thing over and over, but her mind was blank, filled only with the image of him carrying those containers up all those stairs. The power in his legs, the breadth of his shoulders, the easy way he'd lifted what would have taken Grant three trips.

He looked at her. Really looked at her. His eyes moved over her face, her throat, the swell of her chest above the sundress's neckline, and she felt seen in a way she hadn't felt in years. Maybe ever. The candlelight caught the dark planes of his cheekbones, the strong line of his jaw. He was close enough that she could smell him, sawdust and something musky, something male.

"You're welcome, Mrs. Grant." He said her name slowly, like he was testing how it felt on his tongue. "If you need anything else, I'm in the basement apartment. Number B1. I've got a radio, some supplies. The building is secure."

"How long do you think this will last?" Grant asked. He was hovering near the back of the room, like he didn't want to get too close.

Titus turned to face him fully. "Could be a day. Could be a week. The grid is down across the whole region. They're saying it could take days to fix. Maybe more."

"Days?" Grant's voice cracked.

"Days." Titus's voice was flat, certain. "So we need to be smart. Ration what we have. Stick together. This building is my responsibility. That means everyone in it."

He looked back at Camille. His gaze dropped to her lips, then lower, just for a moment, before returning to her eyes. "Especially the ones who need looking after."

The words landed somewhere deep in her chest, a warmth that had nothing to do with the candles. She held his gaze, didn't look away. Her nipples had hardened beneath the thin fabric of her sundress, and she knew he could see them. She didn't cross her arms. She didn't cover herself.

"I can take care of myself," she said. But even as she said it, she knew it wasn't true. Not in the way he meant. Not in the way she suddenly wanted to be taken care of.

"I'm sure you can," Titus said. And there was something in his voice, a roughness, a promise, that suggested he was looking forward to seeing her try.

He left after that, his heavy footsteps echoing down the stairwell. Camille stood at the door, watching him go, the generator humming behind her. Her body was still warm where his gaze had touched it.

"Well," Grant said. "That was nice of him."

Nice. That was the word Grant used. As if the massive, powerful man who had just entered their home and changed the energy of the entire space was merely being nice.

She closed the door, locked it, pressed her forehead against the cool wood. Her skin was flushed, her breath shallow. She pressed her thighs together and felt the ache there, the wetness that had gathered while she stood in front of him.

"Camille? Are you okay?"

She turned, saw Grant standing in the dim light, his face anxious, his hands fidgeting. She saw him clearly for the first time in years. Saw his smallness, his fear, the way he shrank from the world instead of meeting it.

She thought of Titus carrying those containers up fourteen flights of stairs like they weighed nothing. The strength in his arms, the certainty in his voice, the way his eyes had moved over her body without apology.

"I'm fine," she said. And she meant it. She was more than fine. She was awake for the first time in five years.

"We should get some sleep," Grant said. "Tomorrow's going to be a long day."

"You go ahead. I'll clean up."

He hesitated, then nodded and shuffled toward the bedroom. She heard him fumbling in the dark, heard the bed creak as he lay down.

She stayed in the living room, watching the candle flame, feeling the generator's vibration through the floor. She thought about Titus in the basement, alone, in control of everything. She thought about his hands, his voice, the way he had looked at her like he already knew what she needed.

She touched her stomach, felt the warmth there. Her hand drifted lower, pressing against the fabric of her dress, and she let out a shaky breath.

Tomorrow she would find a reason to go downstairs.

Tonight, she would dream.

Shared Heat

The generator coughed in the hallway, a sickly sound that made Camille's stomach clench. She watched the glow of the single lamp they were allowed to use flicker, dim, then steady at a weaker orange than before. The warmth it gave off was nothing compared to the chill that had settled into the apartment.

Grant sat on the couch, rubbing his hands together. "It's running low. I can tell by the pitch."

Camille pulled her sweater tighter around her shoulders. She didn't need Grant to tell her that. She could feel the cold creeping in through the floorboards, seeping under the door. The city outside was a black void, punctuated by the occasional distant shout or the beam of a flashlight from another building. They were on their own.

Titus stood by the window, a massive silhouette against the dark glass. He turned, and the lamp light caught the hard lines of his face, the shine of his shaved head. His gaze settled on Camille for a beat longer than it did on Grant.

"Generator's got maybe two more hours on this tank," he said. His voice was a rumble that vibrated in the small space. "After that, we're in the dark and the cold."

Grant's shoulders slumped. "What are we going to do?"

Titus didn't answer Grant. He walked over to where Camille sat on the floor, a cushion from the couch behind her back. He crouched down, his knees cracking, and his face was level with hers. He smelled of sweat and cold air, underneath it something clean and male.

"Body heat," he said. "That's the only way to keep warm when the power's gone."

Camille's breath caught. She knew what he was suggesting. She had felt the tension all evening, the way his eyes followed her, the way Grant seemed to shrink smaller every time Titus spoke. She looked at her husband. Grant was staring at the floor, his hands gripping his knees.

"Grant," she said. Her voice came out softer than she intended.

He looked up, and she saw the fear in his eyes. Not fear of the cold. Fear of what was about to happen.

Titus didn't wait for a vote. He stood up and walked to the bedroom door. He pulled the duvet off the bed, the heavy winter one they had forgotten to put away. He brought it back to the living room and spread it on the floor in front of the dying lamp.

"You can wait in the hallway," he said to Grant. It wasn't a suggestion.

Grant's mouth opened and closed. He looked at Camille, searching for a way out. She didn't give him one. She couldn't. Her body felt like it was moving on its own, pulled by a gravity she didn't understand.

"Cami," Grant whispered.

"It's just for the night," she said. The lie tasted thin on her tongue. "It's just to stay warm."

Grant stood up slowly. He walked to the door, his steps heavy. He paused with his hand on the knob and looked back. Titus was already kneeling on the duvet, his hands reaching for Camille. She saw Grant's face crumple, shame mixed with what looked almost like relief.

He opened the door and stepped out into the dark hallway. The latch clicked shut.

Camille was alone with Titus.

He didn't speak. He just reached for her, his big hands finding her waist, pulling her toward him. She went willingly, her body already leaning into his warmth. The cold floor bit through the duvet, but his body was a furnace, radiating heat that soaked through her clothes.

"You're shaking," he said.

"I'm cold," she said. But she wasn't. Not really. The shaking was nerves. Anticipation. The knowledge that she was about to cross a line she couldn't uncross.

Titus's hands moved up her sides, pushing the sweater up. She lifted her arms, letting him pull it over her head. The air hit her skin, and she shivered hard. He didn't stop. He unbuttoned her jeans, his fingers brushing her stomach, and she felt a jolt of heat that had nothing to do with the temperature.

"Lie down," he said.

She lay back on the duvet. The fabric was soft beneath her, but the floor was hard underneath. He loomed over her, a dark shape blocking out the weak light. He pulled off her jeans, her socks, until she was in just her underwear and a thin tank top.

He didn't take off his own clothes at first. He just lay down beside her, pulling the duvet over them both. His body was a wall of heat, pressing against her side. She turned toward him, and his arm wrapped around her, pulling her close.

"This is just survival," she whispered. She needed to hear it out loud.

"No," he said. His mouth was close to her ear, his breath hot against her skin. "This is me claiming you. The survival is just an excuse."

Her heart hammered. She should have pulled away. She should have called for Grant. But her hand was already moving, sliding up his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath his shirt. He caught her wrist and pinned it to the duvet.

"You don't get to decide the pace," he said. "I do."

He rolled her onto her back and moved over her, his weight pressing her into the floor. His mouth found her neck, hot and open, and she gasped. His teeth grazed her skin, not quite biting, just enough to remind her who was in control.

She closed her eyes. She thought of Grant, standing in the cold hallway, listening. She thought of the blackout, the chaos outside, the fragile order of their lives shattering. And she thought of Titus, his body covering hers, his hands moving with a purpose she couldn't resist.

He pulled her tank top down, exposing her breasts to the cold air. She arched into him, and he took her nipple into his mouth. The sensation was sharp, electric, a direct line to the ache between her legs. She moaned, a sound that surprised her.

His hand slid down her stomach, under the waistband of her underwear. His fingers found her wet, and she knew she couldn't pretend anymore. This wasn't just about warmth. This was about need.

"You're ready for me," he said.

"Yes," she breathed.

He pulled her underwear down, off her legs. Then he moved between them, his body blocking out everything else. She felt the weight of him, the heat of him, the sheer size of him pressing against her thigh. She was trembling, her breath coming in short gasps.

He pushed into her slowly. The stretch was intense, a fullness she had never felt before. Grant was smaller, quicker, gentler. Titus was none of those things. He was deliberate and relentless, filling her inch by inch until she thought she couldn't take any more.

And then he was all the way in, and she was pinned beneath him, completely claimed.

He held still for a moment, letting her adjust. She could feel him throbbing inside her, a pulse that matched her own heartbeat. Her walls clenched around him, and he let out a low groan that made her stomach tighten.

"Feel that," he said. "Feel how deep I am."

She could. She could feel him everywhere, stretching her open, pressing against places Grant had never reached. Her hips shifted, and the movement sent a jolt through her that made her cry out.

He began to move. His rhythm was slow at first, deep, grinding. Each thrust pressed her into the hard floor, the duvet bunching beneath her. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, and he groaned, a low sound that vibrated through her chest.

"That's it," he said. "Take it."

She did. She took every hard thrust, every moment of his dominance. Her resistance faded with each stroke, replaced by raw hunger. She was no longer thinking about Grant. She was no longer thinking about the blackout or the cold or the survival excuse.

She was thinking about this. About him. About the way he made her feel like she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

His pace quickened. He was driving into her now, hard and fast, the sound of their bodies slapping together echoing in the dark room. She was close, the pressure building low in her belly, coiling tighter and tighter.

"Come for me," he commanded.

And she did. Her body broke apart beneath him, a wave of pleasure that stole her breath and left her shaking. He followed a moment later, a deep groan as he emptied himself into her, his body shuddering against hers.

He stayed inside her, his weight a comforting pressure. She could feel his heart beating, a steady drum against her chest. She could feel the warmth of his seed, pooling deep inside her.

He pulled out slowly and lay beside her, pulling the duvet over them both. She curled into him, her face pressed against his chest. She could smell herself on him, the evidence of what they had done.

The lamp flickered and died. They were in complete darkness.

She heard a sound from the hallway. A shuffle. A cough. Grant was still out there.

She didn't call for him.

She lay in the dark, wrapped in Titus's arms, and she knew that nothing would ever be the same. The blackout had taken more than the lights. It had taken the world she knew and replaced it with raw reality.

And she wasn't sure she wanted it back.

Resource Rules

The gray morning light filtered through the living room windows, casting long shadows across the floor where Camille lay wrapped in a blanket. The power was still out. The city remained dark. And her body still hummed with the memory of Titus's hands on her the night before.

She sat up slowly, wincing at the soreness between her thighs. A good soreness. A satisfying ache that made her feel claimed in ways she had never experienced before.

Grant was sitting at the kitchen table, nursing a cup of cold coffee. He looked like he hadn't slept at all. Dark circles ringed his eyes, and his shoulders were hunched forward in defeat.

"Morning," she said softly.

He didn't look at her. "He's still here."

"He brought supplies. He kept us safe." She wrapped the blanket tighter around her shoulders. "We need him, Grant."

"Need him?" Grant's voice cracked. "You let him..." He couldn't finish the sentence.

Any other wife would have felt guilty. Should have felt something other than this strange, buzzing anticipation. But all she could think about was when Titus would touch her again.

The door to the spare bedroom opened, and Titus stepped out. He was already dressed in his work pants and a tight thermal shirt that stretched across his chest. He moved with the same deliberate confidence he always carried.

"Morning," he said, his deep voice filling the room. "We need to talk about the rules."

Grant's head snapped up. "Rules? This is my apartment."

Titus ignored him. He walked over to where Camille sat on the floor and looked down at her. "You cold?"

"A little," she admitted.

He reached down and pulled her to her feet, his hands warm and rough against her skin. "I'll get the generator going again. But first, we understand each other."

He led her to the couch and sat down, pulling her onto his lap. She went willingly, her body already responding to his presence. Grant watched from the kitchen table, his knuckles white around his coffee cup.

"Here's how it works," Titus said, his hand resting on her thigh. "I keep you both safe. I get the generator running, I bring food and water, I make sure no one breaks in. But I get what I want too."

"And what's that?" Grant asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Titus looked at him, then at Camille. "Her. Whenever I want her. However I want her."

Camille's breath caught. Part of her wanted to protest. To stand up and defend her marriage. But instead, she leaned back against his chest, feeling his heartbeat steady against her spine.

"You can't just..." Grant started.

"I can," Titus cut him off. "I already have. The only question is whether you want to survive this blackout or not."

Grant's face crumpled. He looked at Camille, searching for some sign of resistance, some indication that she would fight for him. But she couldn't give him that. Not when Titus's hand was sliding up her thigh, not when her body was already leaning into his.

"Cami," Grant pleaded. "Tell him no. Tell him we'll figure something out."

She looked at her husband. At his thin frame and scared eyes. At the man who couldn't protect her, who couldn't provide for her in this moment of crisis. Then she looked at Titus, at the solid wall of muscle behind her, at the man who had already proven what he could do.

"I can't tell him no," she said quietly. "Because I don't want to."

The words hung in the air. Grant's face went pale, then red. He stood up, knocking his chair back. "I won't live like this."

Titus didn't even flinch. "Then leave. But she stays."

Grant's eyes went to the door. To the dark hallway beyond. To the city without power, without law. He had nowhere to go. No one to turn to. He sat back down.

"That's what I thought," Titus said. "Now here are the rules. I come and go as I please. I use the master bedroom when I want. You sleep on the couch or in the spare room. And when I take her, you stay where I can see you. I want you to watch."

Camille's stomach flipped. The request should have horrified her. Instead, she felt warmth pooling between her legs.

"No," Grant whispered.

"Yes," Titus said. He lifted Camille and set her on the couch beside him. "We're starting now."

He stood up and unbuckled his pants. Camille watched, her mouth dry, her hands trembling with anticipation. Grant sat frozen at the table, unable to look away.

Titus pulled out his cock. It was already hard, already ready for her. The thick length of him jutted from his pants, and she could see the veins running along his shaft, the dark head already glistening at the tip. "Come here," he said.

She went to him. On her knees. In front of her husband. She opened her mouth and took him inside.

His taste was familiar now. She had learned him the night before, had memorized the way his thickness filled her throat. She relaxed her jaw and took him deeper, her hands gripping his thighs for balance. The weight of him on her tongue sent sparks through her body. She swirled her tongue around the head, tasting the salt of his precum, then slid her lips down his shaft until she could feel him at the back of her throat.

"Look at him," Titus said, his hand on the back of her head. "Look at your husband while you suck my cock."

She turned her eyes to Grant. He was crying. Silent tears tracked down his cheeks as he watched his wife on her knees for another man. Shame should have flooded through her. She should have stopped.

Instead, she took Titus deeper, her tongue working along his shaft, her eyes locked on Grant's broken expression. She bobbed her head, establishing a rhythm, feeling him grow even harder in her mouth. Her jaw ached from the stretch of him, but she didn't care. She wanted to please him. She wanted to show Grant exactly what she had become.

"That's it," Titus groaned, his fingers tangling in her hair. "Show him what you need."

She needed this. To be claimed. To be filled with this man's seed. The thought surprised her with its intensity, but she couldn't deny it. Every cell in her body was screaming for his children. She moaned around his cock, the vibration making him twitch in her mouth.

He pulled her up by her hair. Not hard enough to hurt, just enough to control. "On the couch. On your back."

She scrambled to obey, lying down on the cushions, pulling her shirt off to bare her breasts. Titus stood over her, his massive frame blocking the light. His cock stood rigid against his stomach, slick with her saliva.

"Watch," he said to Grant. "Watch what happens when a real man claims a woman."

He climbed on top of her, his weight pressing her into the cushions. She wrapped her legs around his waist without thinking, her body already knowing what it wanted. She could feel the blunt head of his cock pressing against her entrance, slick with her own wetness.

He slid inside her with one smooth thrust. She cried out, her back arching off the couch. He was so deep, so full, stretching her in ways Grant never had. Her walls clenched around him, trying to adjust to his girth.

"You like that," Titus said. It wasn't a question.

"Yes," she breathed. "God, yes."

He started to move, slow and deliberate, each stroke pushing her further into the cushions. She could feel every inch of him as he withdrew, then slammed back home. She grabbed at his shoulders, his chest, anything to anchor herself as waves of pleasure rolled through her. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the room, wet and obscene.

Grant's chair scraped against the floor as he stood up. "I can't watch this."

"Sit down," Titus said, not breaking his rhythm.

"Please. I can't."

"Sit. Down."

Grant sat.

Camille watched her husband obey. Something shifted in her chest, something she had been fighting since the power went out. She didn't want Grant. She wanted Titus. She needed Titus.

"Faster," she begged. "Please."

Titus gave her what she wanted. He drove into her, his hips slapping against her thighs, his balls tight against her ass. She felt the pressure building, the pleasure coiling in her core. His thumb found her clit, circling it with practiced precision, and she shattered.

She came with a scream, her body shuddering beneath him. Her walls clamped down on his cock, milking him as he kept going, thrusting through her climax and beyond, pushing her into another one. Then another. Each orgasm crashed into the next until she lost count, until she was nothing but nerve endings and sensation.

He pulled out and stood over her, his cock glistening with her wetness. "Turn over."

She couldn't move fast enough. She rolled onto her stomach, pressing her face into the cushions, lifting her hips for him. She felt exposed, vulnerable, and incredibly aroused.

He entered her from behind, the new angle even deeper. She buried her face in the cushion to muffle her screams, but they still escaped. Grant was still watching. She could feel his eyes on her back, on the place where Titus's body met hers. Each thrust pushed her forward, and she braced herself against the arm of the couch.

"This is where you belong," Titus growled, his hand gripping her hip. "On your knees for me. Taking my cock. Getting ready to carry my child."

The words sent electricity through her. His child. She wanted that more than she had ever wanted anything.

He fucked her harder, faster, his breath coming in rough gasps. She could feel him swelling inside her, could feel the heat building at the tip of his cock. His hand fisted in her hair, pulling her head back, exposing her throat.

"Tell me you want it," he demanded. "Tell me you want my seed inside you."

"I want it," she sobbed. "I want it. Give it to me. Please."

He roared as he came, his body pressing deep into hers, his cock pulsing as he filled her with hot, thick cum. She felt it spreading inside her, felt the warmth flooding her womb, and she came again, her body clenching around him, squeezing every drop from his shaft.

He stayed inside her for a long moment, his breath hot against her neck. Then he slowly pulled out. His cum dripped down her thigh as she lay there, panting, spent. She could feel it leaking from her, pooling on the cushion beneath her.

Grant was still at the table. His face was blank now, empty of expression, as if he had shut down completely.

Titus tucked himself back into his pants and walked over to the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of water and drank it while looking out the window. "I'll go check the generator."

He left without another word. The door clicked shut behind him.

Camille lay on the couch, her body still trembling with aftershocks. She could feel his cum leaking out of her, warm and wet against her thighs.

"How could you?" Grant whispered. "How could you enjoy that?"

She sat up slowly, pulling the blanket over her nakedness. "I don't know how to explain it. It just feels right."

"Right? He's taking everything from us."

"No, Grant. He's giving me what I need. What I've always needed." She looked at her husband, really looked at him. "You can't give it to me. You never could."

Grant flinched as if she had struck him. "That's not true."

"It is." She stood up, the blanket falling away. "I've been pretending for years. Pretending I was satisfied. Pretending I didn't want more. But I do. I want him."

"You don't even know him."

"I know enough. He can protect me. He can fill me in ways you never could." She touched her stomach, where Titus's cum was still warm inside her. "And he's going to give me a baby."

Grant's face crumpled. "A baby? You want his baby?"

"Yes." The word came out strong and sure. "I do."

"What about us? What about our marriage?"

She looked at him, at his desperate eyes and trembling hands. "I don't think we have a marriage anymore. I think we have something else."

"What?"

"I don't know yet. But I'm not leaving him."

Grant stood up, his fists clenched. "I could make you leave. I could call the police."

"With what phone? What power? And tell them what? That my husband couldn't protect me during a blackout and another man did?" She shook her head. "No one would care."

He sank back into his chair, defeated.

Later that morning, Titus returned with the generator running. The lights flickered on, and the hum of electricity filled the apartment. But nothing changed. Titus was still there. Still dominant. Still claiming her.

He took her again that afternoon, this time on the bed in the master bedroom while Grant sat in the living room, listening through the thin walls. She was louder this time, more confident, her pleasure filling the apartment. He bent her over the edge of the mattress and took her from behind, his hands gripping her hips as he slammed into her. She screamed his name, not caring who heard.

By the end of the first day of the new rules, she had been bred four times. She could feel the cumulative effect, the way her body was preparing itself, the way her cycle was aligning with his purpose.

That night, she lay in his arms in the master bedroom while Grant slept on the couch in the living room.

"You're going to get pregnant," Titus said, his hand on her stomach.

"I know."

"And when you do, everything changes."

"I want it to change." She turned to face him in the darkness. "I want your baby. I want you."

He kissed her, slow and deep, and she felt his cock growing hard against her thigh again. She was sore. She was exhausted. But she was also hungry for him.

"One more," he said. "To be sure."

He rolled on top of her, and she opened her legs, welcoming him inside. He moved slow, gentle even, a different kind of claiming than the rough breeding of the morning. This was tender. This was intimate. She could feel every inch of him as he slid into her, stretching her gently, filling her completely.

His lips found hers, and she tasted herself on his tongue. His hand cupped her breast, his thumb brushing her nipple, sending shivers through her body. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper, wanting to feel every part of him against every part of her.

He moved in long, slow strokes, each one hitting something deep inside her that made her gasp. She could feel him all the way to her core, could feel the head of his cock kissing her cervix with each thrust. The pleasure built slowly, like a tide coming in, each wave reaching higher than the last.

"Look at me," he said, his voice rough with need. "Look at me while I put my baby in you."

She opened her eyes, met his gaze. The intensity there took her breath away. He wasn't just fucking her. He was claiming her. Marking her. Changing her forever.

She came with a soft cry, her body wrapping around his, pulling him deeper. He followed, groaning her name as he filled her one more time. She could feel his warmth spreading through her, could feel her body drinking him in.

As she drifted to sleep, she thought about the future. About the baby growing inside her. About the man beside her and the man in the living room. About the new world they were building in the dark.

And she knew, with absolute certainty, that she would never go back to the way things were.

Caught Watching

The apartment door clicked shut behind Grant, the sound hollow in the dark. He had been gone for hours, searching for batteries that turned out to be a wasted trip. The hallway was dim, lit only by the emergency lights that hummed at the far end. He expected to find Camille waiting by the candles, maybe reading or dozing on the couch. What he heard instead made him freeze.

It came from the bedroom. A low, rhythmic sound. Skin against skin. A woman's breath catching, then releasing in a moan. Grant knew that moan. He had heard it before, but never like this. Never with that edge of desperation, of surrender. He moved toward the sound, his feet carrying him despite the warning in his gut.

The bedroom door was cracked open. Grant pushed it, the wood yielding under his fingers. The scene inside burned itself into his memory before he could even process it.

Camille was on her hands and knees on the bed, her body arched, her face turned away from him. Her black hair was wild, tangled, falling over her shoulders. Behind her, Titus knelt, his massive frame dominating her smaller one. His hands gripped her hips, his fingers pressing into her flesh hard enough to leave marks. He was inside her. Grant could see it, the thick shaft sliding out, the glistening wetness, then pushing back in, each thrust deliberate and deep.

Camille's hands clutched the sheets, her fingers white at the knuckles. She was moaning, a sound that was part pain, part pleasure, part something else entirely. Something Grant had never heard from her before.

"Oh God, Titus," she breathed, her voice cracking.

Titus didn't stop. He didn't even slow down. His dark eyes lifted, found Grant in the doorway, and held him. There was no surprise in that gaze. Only command. Only a knowing that said this was exactly where Grant was supposed to be.

"Close the door," Titus said. His voice was low, calm, absolute. "Then come stand where I can see you. Against the wall."

Grant's body obeyed before his mind could catch up. He stepped into the room, closed the door behind him, and walked to the wall. He stood there, his back against the paint, his eyes locked on the scene in front of him. He couldn't look away.

Titus didn't acknowledge him further. He returned his attention to Camille, his hands sliding up her back, over her shoulders, tangling in her hair. He pulled her head back, exposing her throat, and thrust deeper. Camille cried out, a sharp, desperate sound.

"You feel that?" Titus asked her, his voice a rumble. "Feel how deep I am?"

"Yes," she gasped.

"Good. I want you to feel it. I want you to remember this every time you walk past that door." He pulled her closer, his body covering hers, his chest pressing against her spine. "Your husband is watching. Do you like that?"

Camille's eyes were closed, her mouth open, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She didn't answer. But her body did. She pushed back against him, meeting his thrusts, her hips moving in a rhythm that was older than words.

Grant watched. He couldn't help it. His eyes moved from the place where their bodies joined, to the muscles in Titus's back, to the expression on his wife's face. It was the expression that hurt most. She looked alive. She looked claimed.

Titus slowed his pace, drawing out each movement, making sure Grant saw every inch of it. He pulled almost all the way out, the thick head of his cock spreading her open, holding there for a moment that stretched into eternity. Camille whimpered, her body shaking, her hips trying to push back, trying to take him again. But he held her still, his hands controlling her completely.

"Please," she whispered.

"Please what?" Titus asked.

"Please don't stop."

"I wasn't planning to." He pushed back in, a slow, deliberate invasion, and Camille's moan filled the room. He set a rhythm that was almost cruel in its patience. Each thrust was full, complete, grinding against something inside her that made her gasp and clutch at the sheets. His hands moved to her breasts, cupping them, his fingers rolling her nipples, and her back arched even further.

"That's it," he murmured. "Show him. Show him how you take me."

Camille's head dropped, her hair falling around her face, and she pushed back harder, faster, chasing something. The wet sounds of their bodies grew louder, more obscene. Grant could see everything now. The way her body accepted him. The way her lips stretched around his thickness. The way her thighs trembled with each thrust.

He felt his own body respond, a sickening mixture of humiliation and arousal. He hated himself for it. But he couldn't deny what he felt. His cock was hard, pressing against his pants, and he shifted against the wall, trying to find relief that wouldn't come.

Titus saw it. Of course he saw it. His eyes flicked to Grant, a small smile playing on his lips. "You're hard," he said. Not a question. An observation.

Grant didn't respond. He couldn't.

"Good." Titus returned his attention to Camille, his pace quickening. "That means you understand."

Camille's moans grew louder, more urgent. She was close. Grant could see it in the way her muscles tensed, in the way she pushed back harder, in the way she cried out his name.

"Titus, I'm going to..."

"I know." He reached around, his fingers finding her clit, pressing and circling. "Come for me. Come while your husband watches."

She did. She shattered, her body convulsing, her scream muffled against the pillow. Her walls clenched around him, and Titus groaned, his control slipping for the first time. He kept moving through it, his own control absolute, his breathing only slightly faster. But he didn't stop. He fucked her through her orgasm, drawing it out, making it last until she was trembling and gasping and begging him to stop.

"I can't," she whispered. "It's too much."

"You can." His voice was gentle but firm. "And you will."

Grant felt his knees weaken. He wanted to leave, to run, to pretend he hadn't seen. But he couldn't. He was rooted to that spot, his eyes on his wife as she came down from her peak, her body limp and trembling. And still Titus didn't stop.

He continued to thrust, slower now, more measured. He was not finished. He wasn't even close. His cock was still hard inside her, still slick with her release, and he moved with a patience that was almost terrifying.

"Look at me," Titus said to Camille. She turned her head, her eyes meeting his. "Look at your husband."

She did. Her gaze found Grant, and in it he saw something that broke him completely. She wasn't ashamed. She wasn't sorry. She was satisfied. She was proud. She was his.

"This is how it is now," Titus said, his voice carrying across the room. "You understand that, don't you?"

Grant nodded, the motion small and tight.

"I want to hear you say it."

"Yes," Grant said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I understand."

"Good. Then stay there. Watch. Learn."

He turned back to Camille, his hands on her hips again, his pace quickening. He pulled her up onto her knees, her back against his chest, his hands roaming her body as he took her from a new angle. Camille's eyes fluttered closed, but she forced them open, looking at Grant. She wanted him to see. She needed him to see.

Titus's hands moved down her stomach, over her hips, one hand pressing between her legs while the other held her throat. Not squeezing. Just holding. Just reminding her who she belonged to. Camille's breath hitched, her eyes going wide.

"Again," Titus said. "You're going to come again."

"I can't," she breathed.

"You can." His fingers worked her clit, pressing and circling, while his cock drove into her from below. "Watch him. Watch him while I make you come."

Camille's eyes locked on Grant. Her mouth opened, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps. Her body tensed, then released, then tensed again. She was building toward something, and Titus was taking her there with a precision that was almost clinical.

Grant watched as Titus took her, as he claimed her, as he pushed her over the edge again. Her body convulsed, her back arching, her head falling back against Titus's shoulder. She screamed his name, her hands reaching back to grip his hips, pulling him deeper. And Titus finally let go. His rhythm broke, his thrusts becoming harder, faster, more urgent. His groan was low and primal, and he buried himself inside her, holding her still while he filled her.

Grant watched as Camille's body arched and took it, as she held him inside her, as she whispered thank you.

He watched the whole thing. And when it was over, he didn't leave. He stayed against the wall, his body trembling, his mind a blank of white noise.

Titus pulled out slowly, his cock still hard, still slick. Grant could see his seed leaking from Camille's body, running down her thighs. The image burned into his brain. Titus rolled off Camille and lay on his back, one arm behind his head, the other reaching for her. She curled against him, her head on his chest, her body fitting perfectly into the curve of his arm.

"You can go now," Titus said to Grant, his eyes closed. "I'll be here when you come back."

Grant moved, his legs stiff, his steps uncertain. He reached the door, opened it, and stepped into the hallway. The door clicked shut behind him. He stood there, in the dark, listening to the sounds of his wife and another man settling into sleep.

He didn't go to the couch. He didn't go to the kitchen. He stood there, in the hallway, his back against the wall, his hands at his sides, his mind replaying every image, every sound, every word.

And in the dark, something shifted inside him. Something fundamental. The decision was made. The choice was taken from him. There was nothing left to fight for. Nothing left to defend. He could simply exist.

He thought about Camille, about the way she had looked at him. There was no malice in her eyes. Only honesty. Only truth. She had chosen. And he had watched her choose.

When the first gray light of dawn crept through the windows, Grant moved. He walked to the kitchen, filled a glass of water, and drank it slowly. He heard movement from the bedroom. The creak of the bed. Footsteps. The door opened.

Camille stood there, wearing only one of Titus's shirts. It hung to her thighs, the fabric loose over her curves. Her hair was messy, her face soft with sleep. She looked at Grant, and he looked back.

"I didn't mean for you to see it that way," she said. Her voice was quiet, but not guilty. "But I'm not sorry."

Grant nodded. "I know."

"He's still inside." She touched her stomach. "I can feel it."

Grant didn't respond. He didn't have to. The truth was already written on her face, in her body, in the way she moved. She was his. She was Titus's. She was no longer Grant's.

Titus appeared in the bedroom doorway, naked, magnificent, his body still flushed from the night. He walked into the kitchen, past Grant, and pulled Camille against him. She melted into his arms, her head on his chest.

"Get some coffee," Titus said to Grant. "We're going to need your help today."

Grant poured a cup and handed it to him. Titus took it, drank, and handed it back. "For her," he said. "She needs to eat."

Grant nodded and began making breakfast. He moved around the kitchen, cracking eggs, toasting bread, while Camille sat at the counter, wrapped in Titus's shirt, watching him. Titus stood behind her, his hands on her shoulders, his thumbs tracing circles on her skin.

And Grant understood. This was his new role. Provider of comfort, of food, of support. But never again of pleasure. Never again of possession.

He placed the plate in front of her. She smiled up at him, a real smile, a grateful one. "Thank you," she said.

"You're welcome," he replied.

And he meant it.

Power Restored, Claim Continues

The lights flickered once, twice, then held. Camille blinked against the sudden brightness, her eyes adjusting to a world that looked exactly the same but felt completely different. The hum of the refrigerator filled the kitchen. The microwave clock reset itself, numbers blinking in a steady rhythm. Normal sounds. Normal sights. Nothing normal about what had happened during those three days.

She was still on the living room floor, her body marked with the evidence of Titus's possession. Her thighs were slick. Her skin was flushed. And between her legs, she could feel the warm trickle of his seed, still fresh from the last round.

Grant was standing by the window, his mouth open, his eyes darting from the ceiling lights to Titus's face. He looked like a man who had just been told the world was ending but had somehow already lived through it.

"The power's back," Grant said. His voice was hollow. "It's over."

Titus didn't move from his position on the floor. He was leaning against the couch, one arm draped over his knee, completely at ease. He looked up at Grant with those dark, unreadable eyes.

"Is it?" Titus asked.

Grant's hands were shaking. "The blackout is over. The emergency is over. You can leave now."

The words hung in the air. Camille felt them land on her skin like cold water. She could let him go. She could stand up, put her clothes on, and pretend the last three days hadn't happened. She could go back to being Grant's wife. She could go back to being the woman she was before.

She didn't want to.

Camille pushed herself up onto her elbows. Her body ached in ways she had never experienced before. Deep, satisfying aches. The kind that told her she had been used well. She looked at Grant, then at Titus, and she felt the weight of the choice she was about to make.

"I want him to stay," she said.

Grant's face crumbled. He looked at her like she had reached into his chest and pulled out his heart. "Cami, no. This is crazy. The power is back. We can go back to normal."

"I don't want normal," Camille said. She heard her own voice, steady and sure. It surprised her. It also didn't. She had been thinking about this since the first night. Since Titus had taken her on the floor while Grant listened in the hallway. Since she had felt the stretch of him inside her, the fullness of him, the rightness of him.

Titus smiled. It was a slow, satisfied thing that spread across his face like dawn. He stood up, his massive frame unfolding, and walked over to her. He offered her his hand. She took it and he pulled her to her feet, steadying her when her legs wobbled.

"You heard her," Titus said to Grant. "I'm not going anywhere."

Grant's hands were fists at his sides. His face was red. "This is my apartment. I pay the rent here. I have rights."

Titus laughed. It was a low, rumbling sound that seemed to shake the walls. "Rights? You had rights. You had a wife. You had a life. And you gave it all up because you couldn't handle the truth."

"The truth?" Grant's voice cracked. "What truth?"

Titus put his hand on Camille's lower back, pulling her against his side. She fit perfectly against him, her head reaching his shoulder, her curves pressing into his hard body. "The truth that she needs a real man. That she's been waiting for someone like me her whole life. And that you were just a placeholder until I showed up."

Grant's face went pale. He looked at Camille, searching for some sign that she disagreed, that she was being forced. He found none. She was looking at Titus with soft eyes, her hand resting on his chest, her body leaning into his.

"Cami," Grant whispered. "Please. Think about what you're doing."

"I've thought about it," Camille said. She turned to face him, and she felt no guilt, no hesitation. Only certainty. "I've thought about it every night since the power went out. I've thought about it while he was inside me. I've thought about it while you were in the hallway. And I know what I want."

"What about us?" Grant asked. His voice was breaking. "What about our marriage?"

"Your marriage ended the moment you sent me to the hallway," Titus said. He said it without cruelty, just fact. "You gave her up. You handed her over. And now she belongs to me."

Grant looked at the floor. His shoulders slumped. The fight was draining out of him, replaced by something heavier. Something like acceptance.

"Go take a shower," Titus said to Grant. "Clean yourself up. We'll talk about the new arrangement when you're done."

Grant didn't argue. He didn't look up. He just turned and walked to the bathroom, his footsteps slow and heavy on the hardwood floor.

Camille watched him go. She felt a flicker of something, not guilt, but recognition. She had loved him once. She had chosen him. But that was before she knew what choice really meant. That was before she had felt what it was like to be claimed by a man who could actually hold her.

Titus turned her to face him. His hands were warm on her hips, his fingers pressing into her skin. "You sure about this?" he asked.

"I've never been more sure about anything," she said.

He kissed her. It was deep and slow, his tongue sliding into her mouth, his hands pulling her closer. She melted into him, her body remembering everything he had done to her, craving more.

The lights were bright. The world was back to normal. But this apartment was a new world, with new rules.

"Come with me," Titus said. He took her hand and led her to the bedroom.

The bedroom looked the same as it had before the blackout. The same bed. The same sheets. The same pictures on the walls. But it felt different. It felt like his space now. Like she was entering his territory.

Titus sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her onto his lap. She straddled him, her legs on either side of his thighs, her hands on his shoulders. He was still hard. He was always hard. His cock pressed against her thigh, thick and insistent.

"I want to hear you say it," he said. His voice was low, commanding. "I want to hear you say that you choose me. That you want me to stay. That you're mine."

Camille looked into his eyes. She saw no doubt there. No hesitation. Just absolute certainty. She wanted that certainty for herself.

"I choose you," she said. "I want you to stay. I'm yours."

"Say it again."

"I'm yours, Titus. I'm yours."

He kissed her throat, his lips trailing down to her collarbone. She tilted her head back, giving him access, offering herself to him. His hands moved up her sides, cupping her breasts, his thumbs brushing over her nipples.

"You're going to have my baby," he said against her skin. "You know that, right?"

"Yes."

"I'm going to fill you up every night until you're pregnant. And then I'm going to keep filling you up. You're going to be round with my child, and everyone who sees you is going to know who you belong to."

The words sent a thrill through her. She had never wanted anything so badly in her life. She wanted his child. She wanted his claim on her body. She wanted to be marked by him in the most permanent way possible.

"Take me," she said. "I want you inside me."

He laid her back on the bed, his body covering hers. The lights were bright, and she could see everything. The way his muscles moved under his skin. The way his eyes darkened with desire. The way his cock slid against her thigh, leaving a trail of moisture.

He positioned himself at her entrance and pushed in. She gasped at the stretch, the fullness, the feeling of being completely filled. He was so big, so thick, and she felt every inch of him as he sank into her.

"Look at me," he said.

She opened her eyes and met his gaze. He was watching her, his face intense, his breathing deep. He started to move, slow and deliberate, each thrust pushing deeper, hitting places inside her that made her see stars.

"This is what you wanted," he said. "This is what you chose."

"Yes," she breathed. "Yes."

He picked up the pace, his hips slapping against hers, his hands gripping her hips hard enough to leave bruises. She didn't care. She wanted his marks on her. She wanted to be covered in him.

The pleasure built slowly, like a wave gathering strength. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, and he groaned, his head dropping to her shoulder.

"You feel so good," he said. "So tight. So wet. You were made for me."

She was. She knew it now. Every other man had been a rehearsal. Every other touch had been practice. This was the real thing.

He shifted his angle, and suddenly he was hitting a spot that made her cry out. Her nails dug into his back, and he growled, thrusting harder, faster.

"Come for me," he said. "I want to feel you come around my cock."

She was already there. His words pushed her over the edge, and she shattered, her body clenching around him, waves of pleasure rolling through her. He kept moving, driving her through it, and she felt him swell inside her, felt his release, hot and deep, filling her.

He stayed inside her, his weight on top of her, his breath warm against her neck. She held him, her hands stroking his back, her heart pounding.

"I'm not leaving," he said. "Not tonight. Not ever."

"Good," she said.

They lay there for a long time, tangled together, the lights bright above them. The world had changed. The power was back. But nothing was going back to the way it was.

After a while, she heard the bathroom door open. She heard Grant's footsteps in the hallway, slow and hesitant. He stopped at the bedroom door. She could feel his gaze on them, on her naked body wrapped around Titus, on the evidence of what had just happened.

"You can sleep on the couch," Titus said without looking up. "We'll talk in the morning."

Grant didn't answer. But she heard his footsteps retreating, heard the couch creak as he sat down, heard the long, heavy silence that followed.

Camille closed her eyes. She was where she was supposed to be. In the arms of a man who could hold her. In the bed of a man who had claimed her. In a new life that was just beginning.

The lights stayed on. The world kept spinning. And in the morning, everything would be different.

Positive After Dark

The second blackout hit three weeks after the lights came back. Camille stood at the kitchen window watching the city plunge into darkness again, same as before. But this time felt different. This time she wasn't scared.

She heard Grant fumbling through drawers for candles, his anxious muttering filling the apartment. She stayed by the window, one hand resting on her lower belly, waiting for the knock that she knew would come.

It took less than ten minutes. Three sharp raps on the door.

Titus.

She crossed the room and opened it before Grant could. Titus stood in the hallway, a flashlight in one hand and a lantern in the other. His massive frame filled the doorway, same as it had the first night. But now she saw him differently. Now she knew what those hands felt like on her skin, what his voice sounded like in the dark, what his body could do to hers.

"Looks like we got another one," he said, his deep voice calm and steady. "Generator's already running. I got gas for a week if we need it."

Grant came up behind her, holding a candle. "We were just about to light some more."

Titus's eyes moved past Camille, scanning the apartment. "You got batteries? Flashlight?"

"Some," Grant said. "Not many."

Titus grunted. He stepped inside without waiting for an invitation. Camille closed the door behind him. The apartment felt smaller with him in it. Fuller. She liked it.

"Same arrangement as before," Titus said. It wasn't a question. "I keep the lights on, you share what you got."

Grant nodded. "Yeah, sure, that makes sense."

Titus looked at Camille. His gaze dropped to her hand, still resting on her belly. Something flickered in his eyes. Recognition. Or suspicion.

"You feeling okay, Cami?" he asked. "You look different."

She swallowed. "I'm fine. Just tired."

But she wasn't tired. She was buzzing. Because she had taken the test that morning, before the power went out. Two pink lines. Positive. She had stared at it for five minutes, hands shaking, pulse racing. Then the lights had died and she had tucked it into her pocket.

She hadn't told anyone yet. Not even Grant.

Now Titus was here, and the test was still in her jeans pocket, and she knew she would tell him first. She had known it the moment the lines appeared.

"Let's get the lanterns set up," Titus said. He moved past her into the living room, setting the lantern on the coffee table. The yellow glow spread across the walls, soft and warm.

Grant busied himself with candles, placing them on shelves and windowsills. Camille watched him for a moment. Her husband. He moved with nervous energy, lighting wicks, adjusting holders, avoiding eye contact with both of them. He knew what was coming. They all did.

Titus settled onto the couch, his legs spread wide, his arms resting along the back. He looked like he owned the place. He did, in a way. He owned her. She felt it every time she looked at him, every time she remembered what he had done to her on this very floor.

"Come here," he said, patting the cushion beside him.

Camille walked over and sat down. Not too close, but close enough. His hand found her thigh, warm and heavy. She didn't pull away.

Grant lit the last candle and stood there, holding the lighter, looking lost.

"Sit down, Grant," Titus said. "We got things to discuss."

Grant sat in the armchair across from them. The same position he had been in that first night. The same helpless look on his face.

"The outage's gonna last a few days," Titus said. "Maybe longer. They're saying grid failure this time, not just a storm."

"Great," Grant muttered.

Titus's hand squeezed Camille's thigh. "You been sleeping okay?"

She nodded. "Mostly."

"Eating?"

"Some."

His thumb traced a circle on her leg. "You feel different tonight. Something's on your mind."

She looked at him. His face was half in shadow, half in lantern light. Strong jaw, dark eyes, full lips. The face of the man who had changed everything.

"I have something to tell you," she said. "Both of you."

Grant leaned forward. "What is it?"

She pulled the test out of her pocket. The plastic stick was warm from being against her body. She held it up, letting the light catch the window where the two pink lines were visible.

"I'm pregnant," she said.

The words hung in the air. Grant's face went pale. His mouth opened and closed, no sound coming out.

Titus didn't move. His hand stayed on her thigh, but his grip tightened. Just slightly. A possessive squeeze that said everything.

"When did you find out?" he asked. His voice was low, controlled, but she could hear the satisfaction underneath.

"This morning. Before the power went out."

"You sure it's accurate?"

"I took two. Both positive."

Titus let out a slow breath. He looked at her belly, then at her face. A smile spread across his lips. Not a wide smile. Just a small one, a private one, meant only for her.

"That's my baby," he said.

It wasn't a question. It was a statement. A claim.

Grant stood up, knocking the candle on the armrest. He caught it before it fell, his hands shaking. "We don't know that," he said. "It could be mine. We were trying, we had been trying for months before the blackout."

Titus looked at him. The smile faded. "You know it's not yours."

"You can't just decide that."

"Grant." Camille's voice was soft. She felt a pang of guilt, but it was small, buried under a much larger feeling. Relief. Excitement. Certainty.

"Camille, tell him. Tell him it could be mine."

She looked at her husband. His face was desperate, pleading. She remembered the months of negative tests, the tears, the arguments. She remembered the hope that had slowly died in both of them. And she remembered the first night of the blackout, when Titus had taken her on this floor, and something inside her had finally woken up.

"It's not yours," she said.

Grant's face crumpled. He sat back down, hard, like his legs had given out. He stared at the floor.

Titus pulled Camille closer. His arm wrapped around her shoulders, drawing her against his chest. "You're gonna be okay," he murmured into her hair. "I'm gonna take care of you. Both of you."

She felt tears prick at her eyes. Not sad tears. Relief. The kind that comes from finally letting go.

Grant looked up. His eyes were wet. "What about me?"

Titus met his gaze. "You're gonna be part of this. You're gonna help raise this kid. But you're gonna do it my way. You understand?"

Grant didn't answer. He just sat there, broken, watching his wife in another man's arms.

Camille felt Titus's hand slide down her belly, flat and smooth under her shirt. His palm pressed against her, warm and heavy.

"How far along you think?" he asked.

"I don't know. A few weeks maybe."

"We'll get you to a doctor when the power comes back. We'll make sure everything's okay."

She nodded, leaning into him. The lantern light flickered. The candles burned low. The apartment was quiet except for Grant's uneven breathing.

"I want to feel it," Titus said. "Later. When it starts moving. I want to feel it kick."

"It'll be months before that happens."

"I'll wait."

She turned her head and kissed his jaw. His hand moved up from her belly to her cheek, tilting her face toward his. He kissed her, deep and slow, right there in front of Grant.

Grant made a small sound. A whimper. He looked away.

Titus broke the kiss and looked at him. "You got a problem?"

"No." The word was barely audible.

"Good. Because this is how it's gonna be from now on. You understand what I'm saying?"

Grant nodded. His shoulders slumped. He looked smaller than he ever had.

Camille felt a surge of something. Power. She had chosen. She had made her decision, and now everything was falling into place. The baby inside her was Titus's. She knew it with absolute certainty. She had felt it the moment he had taken her that first night. Something had clicked. Something had been set in motion.

Titus stood up, pulling her with him. "Come on. Let's get you comfortable."

He led her to the bedroom. Grant stayed in the living room, staring at the candle flames.

Camille lay down on the bed, and Titus lay beside her, his body curving around hers. His hand rested on her belly again.

"You happy?" she asked.

"Yeah." His voice was rough. "You?"

"Yeah."

"You scared?"

"A little."

"Don't be. I got you. I got both of you."

She closed her eyes. The blackout had brought them together. The pregnancy would keep them together. She felt his hand on her belly, felt his breath on her neck, and she knew she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

In the living room, she heard Grant get up. She heard him walk to the kitchen. She heard a glass clink, then the sound of him pouring something. Whiskey, probably. He would drink himself to sleep. He would wake up in the morning and pretend this was all a nightmare.

But it wasn't a nightmare. It was real. And it was just the beginning.

Titus's hand slid lower, under the waistband of her jeans. His fingers found her, already wet.

"You're ready for me," he said.

"I'm always ready for you."

He kissed her neck, his teeth grazing her skin. "I'm gonna take care of you. Every day. Every night. I'm gonna watch you grow with my baby. I'm gonna be there when you give birth. I'm gonna be there for every single moment."

She moaned softly, arching into his hand.

"And Grant's gonna watch," he continued. "He's gonna watch you get bigger. He's gonna watch you nurse. He's gonna know, every second, that you're mine."

She turned in his arms, facing him. "I want that."

"I know you do."

He kissed her again, and she melted into him. The blackout raged outside, but inside this apartment, inside this room, there was only warmth. Only him. Only the life growing inside her.

She was his. And she was never going back.

Titus shifted, pressing her back against the mattress. His weight settled over her, solid and grounding. She could feel the heat of him through their clothes, the hard planes of his chest, the thick press of his thighs against hers. He was so much bigger than Grant. So much more certain in the way he moved, the way he took what he wanted without hesitation.

He pulled her shirt up slowly, his rough palms sliding over her ribs, over the soft curve of her belly where his child was growing. He paused there, his hand spread wide, and something tender passed over his face. Then his expression darkened with hunger, and he tugged the fabric higher, baring her breasts to the cool air.

"Beautiful," he murmured. His head dipped down, and his mouth found her nipple, warm and wet and insistent. She gasped, her fingers tangling in his short hair, pulling him closer. His tongue circled the peak, then his teeth grazed it, sending a jolt of pleasure straight down between her legs.

His hand worked at the button of her jeans, then the zipper. He tugged them down over her hips, taking her underwear with them, and the cool air kissed her exposed skin. She lifted her hips, helping him, wanting to be bare for him. He stripped the jeans off entirely and tossed them aside. Then he sat back on his heels and looked at her, his dark eyes roaming over every inch of her body in the faint glow that leaked under the bedroom door.

"Spread your legs," he said.

She did. Slowly. She felt the cool air against her wetness, felt how exposed she was, how open. His gaze burned into her, and she watched his chest rise and fall with heavier breaths.

He leaned forward and ran his thumb along her slit, gathering the wetness there. She shuddered. He brought his thumb to his mouth and tasted her, his eyes never leaving hers.

"Sweet," he said. "Like always."

Then his mouth replaced his thumb, and Camille's back arched off the bed. His tongue was hot and deliberate, circling her clit with slow, firm strokes. He gripped her thighs, holding them apart, holding her still while she writhed against his mouth. She bit her lip to keep from crying out, but a moan escaped anyway, low and desperate.

He worked her with patient intensity, his tongue finding every sensitive spot, his lips pulling at her swollen flesh. She could feel the pressure building, coiling tight in her belly. Her hands fisted the sheets beneath her.

"Titus," she breathed. "Please."

He groaned against her, and the vibration pushed her closer. His tongue moved faster, flicking back and forth across her clit, and then two of his fingers slid inside her, deep and curling. She gasped, clenching around him, her hips rolling against his hand.

"That's it," he said, his voice thick and muffled against her. "Come for me."

She shattered. The orgasm ripped through her in waves, her thighs trembling against his shoulders, her inner walls clenching and releasing around his fingers. She bit down on her knuckle to muffle the cry, but it wasn't enough. The sound filled the room, and she knew it carried through the thin walls. She knew Grant could hear.

The thought sent another pulse of heat through her.

Titus kissed the inside of her thigh and lifted his head. His lips glistened with her wetness. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and smiled at her, that same private smile, possessive and satisfied.

"My girl," he said.

He stood and stripped off his shirt, revealing the broad expanse of his chest, the defined muscles of his abdomen. He unbuttoned his pants and pushed them down, and his cock sprang free, thick and hard, already leaking at the tip. She reached for him, but he caught her wrist gently and shook his head.

"Not yet. I want to take my time with you tonight."

He climbed back onto the bed, positioning himself between her legs. His cock rested against her inner thigh, hot and heavy. She could feel the wetness of him smearing against her skin. He leaned down and kissed her, and she tasted herself on his tongue, salty and musky.

"I want you inside me," she whispered against his lips.

"You'll have me. When I'm ready."

He kissed her jaw, her neck, her collarbone. His mouth moved lower, trailing hot, open kisses down her chest, pausing to suck each nipple until she squirmed beneath him. His hands roamed her body, squeezing her breasts, gripping her hips, sliding down to cup her ass and pull her against him.

She could feel his cock nudging at her entrance, slick and insistent. She tried to angle her hips to take him in, but he pulled back with a low chuckle.

"Eager," he said.

"You made me eager."

"Good."

He reached between them and positioned himself, the broad head of his cock pressing against her opening. He pushed forward just slightly, barely entering her, and stopped. She whimpered, her hips tilting, trying to draw him deeper.

"Tell me what you want," he said.

"You. All of you. Please, Titus."

He pushed forward, slow and steady, filling her inch by inch. She gasped as he stretched her, the fullness almost overwhelming. He was big, bigger than she had ever gotten used to, and her body resisted at first before yielding around him. He groaned when he was fully seated inside her, his forehead dropping to rest against hers.

"You feel so good," he said. "So tight. So wet for me."

"Don't stop," she breathed.

He pulled back slowly until only the tip remained inside her, then drove forward with one long, deep thrust. She cried out, her nails digging into his shoulders. He set a rhythm, deep and deliberate, each thrust pressing him against her cervix, each withdrawal leaving her empty and aching for more.

The bed creaked beneath them. The springs groaned with each movement. She didn't care about the noise anymore. She wanted Grant to hear. She wanted him to know exactly what was happening in this room, what Titus was doing to her, how much she wanted it.

Titus grabbed her knees and pushed them up toward her chest, opening her wider. The new angle let him sink even deeper, and she felt every inch of him, the thick ridge of his cock dragging against her inner walls with each stroke. She could hear how wet she was, the obscene sound of their bodies meeting, skin against skin, flesh against flesh.

"Look at me," he said. His voice was rough, strained.

She opened her eyes. His face was above hers, dark and intense, sweat beading on his forehead. His hips snapped forward, and she saw the pleasure flash across his features, raw and unguarded.

"You're mine," he said. "This body is mine. This pussy is mine. This baby is mine."

"Yes," she gasped. "Yes, all of it. All yours."

He fucked her harder, his pace quickening, his breathing ragged. She could feel another orgasm building, the tension coiling tighter with each thrust. Her legs trembled against his chest. Her hands clutched at the sheets, at his arms, at anything she could reach.

"Come with me," she said. "I want to feel you come inside me."

He groaned, his rhythm faltering. "You want my baby? You want more of me inside you?"

"Yes. Fill me up. Please."

He drove into her one final time, burying himself to the hilt, and she felt his cock pulse inside her as he came. The warmth of his release flooded her, and that was enough to push her over the edge again. She came hard, her body clenching around him, milking every drop from him as her own orgasm crashed through her in hot, shuddering waves.

He collapsed on top of her, his weight pressing her into the mattress. She could feel his heart pounding against her chest, feel his breath hot and ragged against her neck. He was still inside her, still semi-hard, and she clenched around him deliberately, wanting to keep him there.

"Stay," she whispered.

"I'm not going anywhere," he said.

He rolled them onto their sides, still joined, his arms wrapped around her. His hand found her belly again, pressing flat against the skin where their child was growing. He kissed her shoulder, then the curve of her neck.

"I love you," he said.

She smiled, tears on her cheeks. "I love you too."

The night stretched on, dark and intimate. They lay tangled together, his cock softening inside her, his release leaking slowly down her thighs. Neither of them moved to clean up. Neither of them wanted to break the connection.

Outside the bedroom door, footsteps passed. Grant, pacing. Grant, listening. Each time the footsteps paused near the door, Camille felt a dark thrill. She pressed closer to Titus, her ass against his groin, and felt him stir again.

"Again?" she whispered.

"I told you. Every night."

He hardened inside her, and this time he took her from behind, slow and deep, one hand on her hip and the other cupping her breast. She buried her face in the pillow to muffle her moans, but she knew it wasn't enough. She knew Grant could hear the bed moving, could hear the wet sounds of their joining, could hear his wife whispering another man's name.

When she finally slept, she dreamed of a boy with Titus's eyes and her smile. She dreamed of a future she had never imagined, a life she had never dared to want.

She woke in the dark to Titus's hand on her belly, to his voice low in her ear.

"I love you," he said.

And in the living room, Grant listened. He sat in the dark, his whiskey glass empty, and he listened to his wife tell another man that she loved him. He listened, and he didn't move.

The blackout would end. The lights would come back. But this would never end. This was permanent now. This was forever.

And somewhere deep inside him, Grant was starting to understand that forever was a very long time.

Building Hierarchy

Camille woke to the gray light of a cloudy morning filtering through the curtains. The air in the bedroom was warm and heavy with the scent of Titus, that masculine musk she had come to crave. She turned her head on the pillow and found him already awake, his dark eyes fixed on her.

"Morning, Cami," he murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the mattress.

"Morning," she whispered, and she felt the flutter in her chest that was becoming familiar. The pregnancy test was still on the bathroom counter. She had told Titus first. She had not told Grant yet.

As if reading her mind, Titus said, "You need to talk to Grant today. Set things straight."

Camille nodded. She felt a strange calm settle over her. The blackout had ended, but the new reality was just beginning.

She got up and put on a robe. In the living room, Grant was already awake, sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee. He looked small and tired.

"Morning," Camille said.

Grant looked up. "Morning." His eyes flicked to the bedroom door, where Titus was emerging, wearing only jeans.

Titus walked past them both to the front door. He pulled out a key ring with his master keys. "I'm keeping these," he said, holding them up. "Grant, you're not changing the locks. That's an order."

Grant stared at the keys. "Why would I change the locks?"

"Because you thought about it," Titus replied. "I saw it in your face last night. You thought about locking me out. You won't."

Grant's shoulders slumped. "No, I won't."

"Good." Titus pocketed the keys. "Now, breakfast. Cami, what do you want?"

"I'm not hungry," she said.

"You need to eat. For the baby." Titus's voice was firm but not unkind.

Camille felt a warmth spread through her. He was taking care of her, of the baby. She nodded. "Okay. Toast and eggs."

Titus went to the kitchen and started cooking. Grant watched him move around the kitchen with the ease of a man who belonged there.

"He's really staying," Grant said, his voice flat.

"Yes," Camille said. She sat down across from him. "Grant, I need you to understand something. This isn't just about the blackout. It's about what I want now."

"What you want?" Grant's voice cracked. "You want him?"

"Yes," she said simply. "And I'm pregnant with his child. That's not changing."

Grant looked at the floor. His hands were shaking. "So what am I supposed to do?"

"Accept it," Camille said. "Or leave. But if you stay, you follow his rules."

Titus came back with a plate of eggs and toast. He set it in front of Camille. "Eat," he said. Then he turned to Grant. "You have a choice. Stay and accept my authority, or go. But if you stay, you do what I say."

Grant was silent for a long moment. Then he nodded. "I'll stay."

"Good," Titus said. "Now, first rule. Camille is mine. You don't touch her without my permission. Second rule. You do what I say, when I say it. Third rule. No changing the locks. I come and go as I please."

"Yes," Grant said quietly.

"Yes what?" Titus prompted.

"Yes, sir," Grant said, and Camille felt a shiver of excitement at the words.

"Better," Titus said. "Now eat your breakfast."

The day passed in a strange new rhythm. Titus left to check on the building, but he was back within an hour. He had keys to the apartment now, and he used them. He walked in without knocking, without announcing himself. He just appeared.

Camille found herself waiting for him. She would be reading on the couch, and the sound of the door opening would make her heart race. She would look up, and there he would be, filling the doorway with his presence.

"Just checking on you," he would say, and he would come over and kiss her, his hand resting on her stomach.

"I'm fine," she would say, but she loved the attention.

Grant stayed in the guest room mostly. He came out for meals, and he did what Titus told him to do. Clean the dishes. Take out the trash. Go to the store. He did it all without complaint.

Camille's body was changing. Her breasts were fuller, heavier. Her waist was thickening. She caught Grant staring at her stomach sometimes, a look of disbelief on his face.

"It's real," she said to him once.

"I know," he replied. "I just... I can't believe it."

"You better get used to it," Titus said from the doorway. He had appeared without either of them hearing him. "She's carrying my child. You're going to see her belly grow. You're going to see her body change. And you're going to accept it."

Grant nodded. "Yes, sir."

That night, Titus took Camille to the bedroom. He closed the door, and they were alone. He undressed her slowly, savoring every inch of her new curves.

"You're beautiful," he said, his hands on her hips. "Pregnant suits you."

"I feel beautiful," she admitted. "With you."

He laid her down on the bed and spread her legs. She was already wet, already ready for him. He entered her slowly, deeply, and she gasped.

"You're mine," he said, his voice low. "This is my place. This is my woman. This is my child."

"Yes," she breathed. "Yes, it's yours."

He fucked her with a steady rhythm, not rushed, not desperate. It was a claim of ownership, a reminder of hierarchy. She felt every inch of him inside her, felt his balls slap against her wetness, felt his hands grip her hips.

"I love this," she moaned. "I love being yours."

"You are," he said. "Forever."

He came inside her, and she felt the warmth spread through her. She was already pregnant, but the act itself was a ritual now. A reaffirmation.

Afterward, they lay together, and she could hear Grant moving around in the living room. The sound of him putting away dishes. The sound of him accepting his new place.

"He's learning," Titus said.

"He's trying," Camille said.

"Good. Because he's not going anywhere, and neither am I."

Camille smiled in the darkness. She felt safe, claimed, and completely owned. And she loved it.

The next morning, Titus was already up when she woke. She found him in the kitchen, making coffee. Grant was at the table, reading his phone.

"Morning," Titus said when she walked in. He handed her a cup of coffee with cream, just the way she liked it.

"Thank you," she said.

He kissed her forehead. "Sit down. I'll make you breakfast."

She sat at the table, and Grant looked at her. "You're really glowing," he said.

"It's the pregnancy hormones," she said. "And Titus."

Grant nodded. He looked at Titus, who was cracking eggs into a pan. "Can I ask something?"

"Go ahead," Titus said without turning around.

"Why me? Why not just take her and leave? Why keep me around?"

Titus turned, spatula in hand. "Because a man needs to see what he lost. Needs to see it every day. That's how he learns."

Grant swallowed hard. "I see."

"Do you?" Titus said. "Because I'm not sure you do. But you will."

Breakfast was served. They ate together, the three of them, in a strange new family unit. Camille sat between them, her belly full of Titus's child, her body still humming from his touch.

After breakfast, Titus left again. This time, he was gone for a few hours. Camille read on the couch. Grant stayed in the guest room.

When Titus came back, he had a bag of groceries. "I got you some things," he said. "Cravings. You're going to start having them soon."

"You're so thoughtful," Camille said, and she meant it.

He put the groceries away and then came and sat next to her on the couch. He pulled her into his lap and held her.

"This is your home now," he said. "And I'm going to take care of you. Both of you, if Grant behaves."

"He will," Camille said.

"I know." Titus kissed her neck. "Because if he doesn't, he's out. And I don't think he wants that."

Grant appeared in the hallway. He stood there, watching them. Camille saw the look in his eyes. It was a mixture of pain and acceptance.

"You want something?" Titus asked.

"No, sir," Grant said. "I was just going to ask if you needed anything."

"We're fine," Titus said. "Go read your book or something."

Grant nodded and retreated.

Camille turned to face Titus. "You're really hard on him."

"He needs to be hard on," Titus said. "So he understands his place. So you understand yours."

"I know my place," she said softly. "I'm right here."

"Yes you are." He kissed her deeply. "And that's where you belong."

The days blurred together. Titus came and went. Grant stayed quiet. Camille's body swelled with pregnancy. She was starting to show, a small bump that would grow into a full belly.

She caught Grant staring at it sometimes, his face unreadable. She knew he was thinking about the baby, about how it wasn't his.

"You okay?" she asked him one afternoon. Titus was out, and they were alone.

"I'm fine," he said. "Just... adjusting."

"It's hard, I know."

"It's impossible," he said. "But I'm doing it. For you."

"For me?"

"I love you," he said. "Even if you're not mine anymore. I still love you."

Camille felt a pang of guilt. But it passed quickly. She had made her choice. She had chosen Titus.

"I love you too," she said. "Just... differently now."

Grant nodded. "I know."

The door opened, and Titus walked in. He saw them sitting together and frowned.

"What's this?" he said.

"Just talking," Camille said.

"Talking," Titus repeated. He set down his things and walked over to them. "Grant, you need to remember your place."

"I am," Grant said, standing up. "I was just leaving."

He went to the guest room and closed the door.

Titus sat down next to Camille. "You were being nice to him."

"Yes," she said. "He's my husband. I'm allowed to be nice."

"You're allowed to be whatever you want," Titus said. "But he needs to know that your kindness doesn't mean anything changes."

"It doesn't," she said.

"Good." He pulled her onto his lap. "Because I don't share."

She kissed him. "I know."

That night, Titus took her again. Harder this time, almost punishing. She loved it. She loved the way he asserted himself, the way he made sure she knew who she belonged to.

"You're mine," he said, fucking her from behind. "Say it."

"I'm yours," she moaned.

"Who do you belong to?"

"Titus. Only Titus."

He came inside her with a grunt, and she collapsed onto the bed, spent and satisfied.

Afterward, he held her and whispered, "This is how it's going to be. Every day. Every night. You're mine, and he's going to watch."

"Yes," she said. "Yes."

And in the other room, she knew Grant could hear them. And he was accepting it. Because there was no other choice.

The hierarchy was established. Titus at the top. Camille next. And Grant at the bottom, where he belonged.

And it was perfect.

Neighbor Knowledge

The morning light filtered through the kitchen windows, casting long shadows across the counter where Camille stood pouring herself a glass of water. She caught her reflection in the dark glass of the microwave and paused, one hand drifting to her stomach. The swell was unmistakable now, a firm curve that pushed against the fabric of her sundress. She turned sideways, studying the profile. At twelve weeks, the pregnancy was no longer something she could hide with loose clothing.

Behind her, she heard Grant shuffling in the bedroom, the sound of drawers opening and closing. He had been quiet lately, retreating into himself. She knew he saw the changes in her body too. But he never mentioned them. He never touched her belly or asked how she was feeling. That was Titus's domain now.

She grabbed her keys and purse, calling out to Grant that she was going downstairs to check the mail. He grunted something in response. She didn't wait for him to elaborate.

The elevator ride was smooth, the building still humming with the repairs that had been made since the blackout. She stepped out into the lobby and saw Mrs. Patterson from 4B sorting through her mail. The older woman looked up and smiled, then her eyes dropped to Camille's midsection.

"Well, isn't that a lovely surprise," Mrs. Patterson said, stepping closer. Her voice was warm but curious. "I hadn't heard you were expecting, dear. When are you due?"

Camille felt a flutter of nervousness in her chest. She had known this moment would come eventually. The question was straightforward, but the answer felt loaded. She placed a hand on her belly and smiled.

"Late February," she said. "I'm just past three months now."

Mrs. Patterson's eyes widened slightly. "Oh my, you're showing already for a first pregnancy. That's wonderful. Is this your first?"

"It is."

"And your husband must be thrilled. I see him sometimes in the mornings, heading to work. He seems like a nice young man."

Camille felt the words catch in her throat. She thought of Grant with his nervous eyes and thinning hair, his quiet compliance. Then she thought of Titus, the broad shoulders and deep voice, the confident hands that knew exactly where to rest on her waist. The truth was visible to anyone who looked closely enough.

"He's very excited," she said finally, letting the ambiguity stand. She wasn't sure who she was talking about anymore. Both men were involved in their own ways.

Mrs. Patterson patted her arm. "Well, you enjoy every moment of it. It goes by so fast."

Camille nodded and moved toward the mailboxes, her heart beating a little faster. The exchange had been easy, natural even. But it had also been a test. She had passed. She had held her ground.

She was flipping through the envelopes when she heard footsteps behind her. She turned and saw Mr. Nye from 2B approaching. He was a wiry man in his fifties, always friendly but rarely chatty. Today he seemed different, more deliberate as he walked toward her.

"Morning, Camille," he said, his eyes scanning her body before settling on her face. "I see you've been keeping busy."

She felt a flush of heat crawl up her neck. "Excuse me?"

Mr. Nye chuckled. "I mean the super. Titus. I've seen him coming and going from your place pretty regular these days. No judgment here. Just an observation." He held up his hands in mock surrender. "The man's a legend in this building. If he's taken an interest in you, you're lucky."

Camille's mouth went dry. She didn't know how to respond. She had assumed people might notice, but hearing it spoken aloud was something else entirely. She clutched the mail against her chest.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, but her voice lacked conviction.

Mr. Nye smiled knowingly. "Sure you don't. But between us, my wife and I have been rooting for him. The man deserves someone who appreciates him. And that dress you're wearing? It's a good choice. Shows off what you've got."

He winked and walked away, leaving Camille standing in the middle of the lobby, her heart pounding in her ears. She felt exposed, seen, but not in a bad way. There was something thrilling about being recognized as Titus's woman. The secret was out, and instead of feeling shame, she felt a strange sense of pride.

She finished checking the mail and took the stairs up to the third floor, wanting to stretch her legs. The stairwell was cool and quiet, and she let her hand rest on the railing as she climbed. At the landing, she paused to catch her breath. The baby was already making her winded.

When she reached her door, she found it unlocked. She pushed it open and heard voices from the living room. Titus was there, standing by the window, his massive frame silhouetted against the light. Grant was sitting on the couch, his hands folded in his lap, looking small.

"There she is," Titus said, his voice deep and approving. He crossed the room in a few long strides and placed his hand on her belly. The warmth of his palm seeped through the thin fabric of her dress. "How are my two girls doing?"

Camille smiled up at him. "We're good. Ran into some neighbors downstairs."

Titus raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? What'd they say?"

She hesitated, glancing at Grant. He was watching them, his expression unreadable. She turned back to Titus. "Mrs. Patterson congratulated me on the pregnancy. And Mr. Nye mentioned seeing you around."

Titus chuckled, a low rumbling sound that vibrated through her chest. "Nye's a good man. He knows how things work around here. Did he say anything else?"

"He said you were a legend. That I was lucky."

Titus's hand tightened slightly on her belly. "He's not wrong."

Grant cleared his throat. "So people are talking." His voice was flat, hollow. "They know."

Titus turned to look at him, his expression hardening. "Of course they know. You think a man like me comes and goes without people noticing? You think a woman like Camille carries my child and nobody sees?" He shook his head. "This is how it is now. The sooner you accept it, the easier it'll be."

Grant didn't respond. He just stared at the floor.

Camille felt a pang of something, pity maybe, but it passed quickly. She had made her choice weeks ago, in the darkness of the blackout, and every day since had only confirmed it. She stepped closer to Titus, pressing her body against his side. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her in.

"I'm not ashamed," she said softly. "I want people to know."

Titus looked down at her, his dark eyes searching hers. "Good. Because I'm not hiding either. You're mine. This baby is mine. And everyone in this building is going to know it."

The afternoon passed quietly. Grant retreated to the bedroom, claiming a headache. Camille and Titus sat on the couch, his hand resting on her belly, feeling the occasional flutter of movement. She had felt the first kicks a week ago, tiny taps that made her gasp with wonder. Titus had felt them too, pressing his palm flat against her skin and smiling that rare, genuine smile that transformed his stern features.

"He's going to be strong," Titus said, his thumb tracing circles on her stomach. "Just like his father."

She leaned into him, breathing in his scent, a mix of sweat and sawdust and something uniquely him. "You think it's a boy?"

"I know it is. A son. Someone to carry on what I've built."

She didn't argue. She had no preference either way, but the certainty in his voice was comforting. She trusted him to know.

Later that evening, she decided to take a walk around the building. The sun was setting, casting orange and pink streaks across the sky. She wandered down to the small courtyard in the back, where a few residents were sitting on benches, enjoying the cool air. She saw a group of women her age, some of whom she recognized from the floor below. They waved her over.

"Camille, come sit with us," one of them, a woman named Jenna, called out. "We haven't seen you in ages."

She joined them, settling onto the bench. Jenna's eyes immediately dropped to her belly.

"Oh my God, you're pregnant!" Jenna exclaimed. "I didn't know. Congratulations!"

The other women echoed the sentiment, their voices curious and warm. Camille accepted their congratulations, feeling the weight of their stares. She knew they were wondering about the father, about the timeline, about the changes they had seen in her life.

"So who's the lucky guy?" Jenna asked, leaning in. "I heard rumors, but you know how this building is."

Camille took a breath. She could feel the moment stretching, the possibility of evasion or honesty. She chose honesty.

"It's Titus," she said simply. "The super."

The women exchanged glances. Jenna's eyebrows rose. "I heard he was spending time at your place. I didn't realize it was serious."

"It is." Camille's voice was steady. "He's the father. We're together now."

There was a beat of silence, then Jenna smiled. "Well, good for you. He's a hell of a man. I've seen him handle some rough situations in this building. He's not someone you want to cross."

"He's not," Camille agreed. "But he's also the most protective person I've ever met. He takes care of what's his."

Another woman, a quiet brunette named Sarah, spoke up. "What about your husband? I thought you were married."

Camille felt the question land like a stone in her chest. She had known it would come eventually. She met Sarah's gaze directly.

"Grant is still my husband. But things have changed. He understands."

The women nodded, not pressing further. There was an unspoken understanding in the courtyard, a recognition that the dynamics in the building had shifted. Camille was no longer just the nice wife from 3C. She was Titus's woman, carrying his child, and that gave her a different kind of status.

As the evening deepened and the lights in the building flickered on, Camille walked back to her apartment. She felt different, lighter somehow. The secret was out, and instead of feeling exposed, she felt claimed. Publicly. Permanently.

She opened the door to find Titus in the kitchen, heating up leftovers. Grant was at the table, eating in silence. The scene was domestic, almost normal, except for the tension that hung in the air like a fog.

Titus looked up as she entered. "How was your walk?"

"Good. I talked to some of the women. They know now."

He nodded, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. "Good. Let them talk. It only makes things clearer."

Grant pushed his plate away, the scraping sound loud in the quiet room. "I'm going to bed." He stood without looking at either of them and disappeared into the bedroom.

Camille watched him go, feeling a flicker of something, but it faded quickly. She turned to Titus, who was holding out a plate for her. She took it, sitting down at the table. He sat across from her, his presence filling the room.

"He'll come around," Titus said, his voice low. "He doesn't have a choice."

She nodded, eating in silence. The food was good, simple, but she barely tasted it. Her mind was still replaying the conversations from the courtyard, the way the women had looked at her with a mix of curiosity and respect. She had never felt so seen.

After dinner, Titus led her to the couch and pulled her onto his lap. She curled against him, her belly pressing against his chest. He ran his hand down her back, tracing the curve of her spine.

"You did good today," he said. "Standing your ground. Claiming what's yours."

She looked up at him. "I was claiming you too."

He smiled, that rare smile that made her heart skip. "I know. And I liked it."

He kissed her then, slow and deep, his tongue sliding against hers. She melted into him, her hands gripping his shoulders. The kiss was possessive, claiming, a reminder of who she belonged to. When he pulled back, his eyes were dark with desire.

"I want to take you to bed," he said. "But not yet. I want to savor this."

She nodded, her breath coming faster. She could feel his arousal pressing against her thigh, and the familiar heat pooled in her core. But she was content to wait, to let him set the pace.

They sat in the quiet for a long time, his hand stroking her hair, her ear pressed against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. The apartment was dim, lit only by a single lamp, and the shadows danced across the walls. It felt like a cocoon, a space where the outside world couldn't reach them.

But the outside world had already touched them. The neighbors knew. The building knew. And soon, everyone would see the evidence of their bond growing in her belly.

She thought about the future, about the baby, about the life they were building. It was unconventional, messy, and far from what she had imagined. But it was hers. And she was ready to embrace it.

Titus shifted, lifting her gently and carrying her to the bedroom. Grant was already asleep, his breathing deep and even from his side of the bed. Titus laid her down on the other side, his body covering hers, his weight a comforting pressure that made her feel small and safe.

"I'm going to make love to you now," he whispered, his lips brushing her ear. "And I want you to think about how good it feels to be mine."

She arched into him, her hands tangling in his hair. "I already know," she breathed. "I'm yours."

He kissed her again, and the world fell away. The neighbors, the comments, the shifting dynamics, all of it dissolved into the heat of his skin against hers. His mouth moved from her lips to her neck, trailing wet kisses along her collarbone while his hands worked the buttons of her sundress with practiced ease. The fabric fell open, exposing her swollen breasts and the round curve of her belly. He paused for a moment, taking in the sight of her body, changed and ripe with his child.

"You're beautiful," he murmured, his voice thick with want. "More beautiful every day."

His palms cupped her breasts, thumbs circling the darkened nipples until they peaked beneath his touch. She gasped, the sensitivity heightened by pregnancy, every nerve ending alive and singing. He lowered his head, taking one nipple into his mouth while his hand continued to knead the other. She twisted her fingers in the sheets, overwhelmed by the sensation that shot straight from her breast to her core.

"Titus," she moaned, her back arching off the mattress.

He released her nipple with a wet pop and moved lower, pressing kisses across the swell of her belly. His lips lingered there, reverent and tender, and she felt a flutter beneath his touch that might have been the baby or might have been her own heartbeat. He looked up at her, his dark eyes gleaming in the dim light filtering through the curtains.

"Mine," he said against her skin. "All of this is mine."

His hand slid beneath the hem of her dress, pushing it up around her waist. He hooked his fingers into her panties and pulled them down slowly, letting them drop to the floor. The cool air hit her exposed skin, but the heat of his gaze warmed her. He parted her thighs with firm hands, positioning himself between them. She could feel the broad head of his cock pressing against her entrance, slick and ready.

He entered her slowly, inch by inch, stretching her open with a deliberate care that made her whimper. The fullness was overwhelming, a deep ache that bordered on pain before melting into pure pleasure. She could feel every ridge, every vein as he filled her completely, his pelvis flush against hers. He held still, letting her adjust, his breath hot against her neck.

"Feel that?" he growled. "That's who you belong to."

She nodded, words failing her. Her body had already answered for her, clenching around him, pulling him deeper.

He began to move, withdrawing almost entirely before sliding back in with a slow, grinding thrust that pressed against her front wall. She cried out, her hands gripping his shoulders, her nails digging into his dark skin. He set a rhythm that was unhurried but relentless, each stroke deep and purposeful, each withdrawal leaving her empty and desperate for his return.

The bed creaked beneath them, a soft rhythm that matched his thrusts. Grant's breathing remained steady on the other side of the bed, either still asleep or pretending to be. The thought of him lying there, listening, sent a strange thrill through her that made her clench tighter around Titus.

"That's it," Titus murmured, his thumb finding her clit and circling it with a maddening slowness. "Take all of me."

She felt the orgasm building, a slow wave that started in her core and radiated outward. Her thighs trembled, her breath came in short gasps, and her body arched beneath him. He increased his pace slightly, grinding deeper with each thrust, his thumb maintaining its steady pressure on her most sensitive spot.

"Come for me," he commanded, his voice low and rough. "Come on my cock."

The wave crested, crashing over her with an intensity that made her vision blur. She bit down on his shoulder to muffle her cry, her body convulsing around him in tight, pulsing waves. He groaned at the sensation, his own rhythm faltering as her walls milked him. With a final deep thrust, he buried himself to the hilt and held, his body going rigid as he spilled inside her. She could feel the heat of him flooding her, pulse after pulse, marking her from the inside.

They stayed like that, joined and trembling, until the aftershocks subsided. He kissed her forehead, her nose, her lips, before slowly withdrawing. She felt the absence immediately, a sudden emptiness that made her whimper. He gathered her against his side, one large hand resting on her belly.

She could feel the baby moving, a gentle flutter that seemed to echo the rhythm of their hearts.

"I love you," she said, the words slipping out before she could stop them.

Titus went still. Then he tightened his arm around her, pulling her closer. "I know," he said. "I love you too."

The words hung in the air, solid and real. She closed her eyes, letting the warmth of his body and the certainty of his love wash over her. The blackout had changed everything, but this was the change she had been waiting for.

In the morning, she woke to find Titus already dressed, standing by the window. He turned as she stirred, his expression soft.

"I have to check on a few things in the building," he said. "I'll be back in an hour."

She nodded, stretching. Grant was already up, she could hear him in the kitchen. She dressed and joined him, finding him staring at a cup of coffee.

"Morning," she said.

He looked up, his eyes tired. "Morning."

She poured herself a cup and sat across from him. The silence was heavy, but she didn't try to fill it. There was nothing left to say.

When Titus returned, he found them still sitting there. He walked over to Camille, kissed her forehead, and then turned to Grant.

"I need you to pick up some supplies from the hardware store," he said, his voice matter-of-fact. "I'll give you the list."

Grant nodded without argument, taking the list Titus handed him. He grabbed his keys and left without a word.

Camille watched him go, then turned to Titus. "You're hard on him."

"He needs to learn his place."

She didn't argue. She understood now. The hierarchy was clear. And she was at the top, with Titus, carrying his child, living his life. It was exactly where she wanted to be.

The rest of the day passed in a blur of small tasks and quiet moments. Neighbors stopped by to drop off gifts, a onesie from Mrs. Patterson, a book from Jenna. Each interaction was a confirmation of her new status. She was Titus's woman. She was carrying his child. And the building had accepted it.

By evening, she was exhausted but happy. She sat on the balcony, watching the city lights flicker to life, her hand resting on her belly. Titus joined her, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"You're thinking," he said.

"Just about how different everything is. How good it feels."

He kissed her temple. "It's only going to get better."

She leaned into him, believing it completely. The blackout had been a catalyst, but this was the destination. She had arrived. And she had no intention of leaving.

Name and Place

Camille stood before the bathroom mirror with her blouse unbuttoned, studying the swell beneath her navel. Fourteen weeks. The curve was subtle, but she could see it now. She turned sideways, pressed her palm flat against the skin, and felt the tightness there. New. Strange. Hers, but not only hers.

Titus appeared in the doorway behind her, his reflection filling the mirror. He wore a clean gray henley with the sleeves pushed past his forearms. His eyes moved over her open blouse, her bare stomach, the thin cotton bra she'd chosen because nothing else fit comfortably anymore.

"You look good like that," he said. Not a compliment. A statement. The way he might note the weather or the time.

"I look fat."

"You look pregnant." He stepped closer, and she watched in the mirror as his large hand came to rest on her belly. His fingers spread wide, claiming the surface. "There's a difference."

She held still. His palm was warm through the thin layer of gel she'd applied after her shower. His thumb traced the line where her waist used to be. She remembered when Grant used to touch her like this. Early in their marriage, before the distance, before the silence that filled their bedroom like fog. Grant's hands had been careful, tentative, always asking permission with their pressure. Titus didn't ask. He touched and the touching itself was the permission.

"You nervous?" he asked.

"About the ultrasound?"

"About any of it."

She considered the question. Nervous wasn't the right word. She felt something more like anticipation, the kind that comes when you're about to see proof of something you've already accepted in private. "No," she said. "I want to see it."

"It."

"Him. Her. Whatever's in there."

Titus made a sound in his chest, low and satisfied. He pulled her back against him so her spine pressed into his sternum. His hands settled on either side of her belly, framing it. She met his eyes in the mirror and saw nothing uncertain there. He looked like a man inspecting property he'd already paid for.

From somewhere deeper in the house, a cabinet door closed. Grant was in the kitchen. She could picture him standing at the counter, making coffee he wouldn't drink, finding tasks to fill his hands. He'd been doing that for weeks. Moving through the rooms like a ghost with a pulse, occupying space without filling it.

"He's going to want to come," she said.

"I know."

"Are you going to let him?"

Titus's grip tightened on her waist. Not much. A fraction. "He can drive himself. He can sit in the parking lot. He's not coming inside."

She should have argued. Some part of her, the part that still remembered her wedding vows, the part that still flinched when Grant's eyes went flat and empty, wanted to argue. But that part was smaller now. It shrank a little every day, like a shadow retreating from noon.

"Okay," she said.

Titus kissed the curve where her neck met her shoulder. His lips lingered there, and she felt the heat of his breath roll down her collarbone. Then he released her and walked out.

She buttoned her blouse, tucking it carefully over the swell she couldn't hide anymore.

The drive took twenty minutes. Titus drove his truck with one hand on the wheel and the other resting on her thigh. His thumb moved in slow circles against the inside of her knee. She watched the strip malls and fast food signs slide past the passenger window and thought about how strange it was that the world looked the same. Trees, cars, parking lots. Everything ordinary. As if the architecture of her life hadn't been gutted and rebuilt around a different man.

In her rearview mirror, she could see Grant's sedan two car lengths behind. He'd followed without being told to follow. She hadn't asked him. Titus hadn't asked him. Grant had simply walked to his car, started the engine, and pulled out of the driveway after them. Like a dog that's learned the sound of a leash.

The women's health clinic was a squat brick building with a parking lot that wrapped around the side. Titus pulled into a space near the entrance and cut the engine. He sat for a moment, hands still on the wheel, looking at the building.

"First time I've been to one of these," he said.

"A doctor's office?"

"For this." He gestured vaguely at her midsection. "Kids. Any of that."

She studied his profile. The strong jaw, the flat line of his mouth. He wasn't nervous. He was processing. Filing this moment into whatever internal structure governed his life. "You've never wanted kids?"

"Didn't say that. Said I've never been to one of these."

"There's a difference?"

"Yeah." He turned to look at her. "Plenty of men want kids. Not many earn the right to show up."

The words landed in her chest. She felt them settle there, warm and heavy. He believed what he was saying. That's what made it work. That's what made her believe it too. Grant had wanted children. He'd talked about it early in their marriage, a vague plan for someday, after the promotion, after the house, after they were ready. Titus hadn't talked about it. Titus had done it. There was a difference.

She saw Grant's sedan park three rows back. He sat behind the wheel, visible through the windshield, a dark shape in a parked car. He didn't get out. He didn't reach for his phone. He just sat there, waiting for something he'd already been told he couldn't have.

"Ready?" Titus asked.

"Yeah."

He came around to her side and opened the door. She stepped out into the morning sun and he put his hand on the small of her back. Not holding her up. Directing her. The distinction mattered.

The waiting room smelled like lavender and antibacterial foam. A television mounted in the corner played a morning news segment with the volume muted. Three other women sat in molded plastic chairs, all of them alone or paired with other women. Camille took a seat and Titus sat beside her. He took up more than his share of the chair, his knees spread wide, his elbow resting on the armrest between them. He looked like he belonged here. Like the building had been designed with him in mind.

The receptionist called her name at ten-fifteen. Camille stood, and Titus stood with her. They walked back through a narrow hallway lined with framed prints of wildflowers and motivational phrases about new beginnings. The ultrasound room was small. An exam table with paper stretched across it. A monitor on a rolling cart. A plastic chair beside the table, positioned at the perfect angle for a partner to watch.

The father's chair.

Titus sat in it without hesitation. He settled his weight, leaned back, and stretched his legs out in front of him. His hands rested on his thighs. He looked comfortable. He looked like he'd been waiting for this chair his whole life.

The technician was a woman in her fifties with reading glasses on a beaded chain. She smiled at Camille, then at Titus, and the smile didn't change. She didn't ask questions about the relationship. She'd seen enough variations, probably. Enough women with men who weren't their husbands. Enough husbands who weren't there.

"First ultrasound?" the technician asked.

"Second," Camille said. "The first was just confirmation."

"Well, today you'll see more. Baby's big enough now." She patted the table. "Shirt up, lie back."

Camille did as instructed. The paper crinkled beneath her as she settled. The gel was cold against her skin. She flinched, and the technician laughed softly.

"Everyone hates that part. It warms up in a second."

The wand pressed into her abdomen and moved in slow arcs. The monitor flickered, then showed a grayscale blur that looked like weather radar. Camille stared at it, trying to find a shape. A limb. A face. Anything she could recognize.

Then the sound came.

A rapid, wet thumping. Fast and strong, like a tiny fist against a drum. The heartbeat filled the small room, and Camille felt her throat close. She pressed her lips together and blinked hard.

"There we go," the technician said. "Sounds good. Strong."

Camille turned her head toward Titus. He was leaning forward in the chair, his forearms on his knees, his eyes fixed on the screen. His expression hadn't changed. He still looked the way he always looked. Controlled. Certain. But his hands had curled into loose fists on his thighs, and she could see the tension in his jaw. Something was moving behind his eyes. Something she'd never seen before.

"That's the heartbeat?" he asked. His voice was quieter than usual.

"That's your baby," the technician said.

Your baby. Not their baby. Not the baby. Your baby. The technician had made the assignment without knowing she was doing it. She'd looked at the man in the father's chair and given him the word. Your.

Titus didn't correct her. He didn't clarify. He didn't mention Grant, didn't explain the arrangement, didn't offer context. He just nodded once, slowly, and kept watching the screen.

The technician moved the wand and the image shifted. A shape appeared. Curved. Defined. A head. A spine. The small ridged line of the baby's back, curled like a comma. One arm extended, fingers visible as tiny bright points on the screen.

"Everything looks healthy," the technician said. "Measuring right on schedule. Heart rate's normal. No concerns."

"Good," Titus said. The word came out rough. He cleared his throat.

Camille watched him. She'd expected something else. She wasn't sure what. Satisfaction, maybe. The smugness he sometimes showed after sex, that look of ownership he wore like a second skin. But this was different. He was quiet. He was still. He looked like a man who'd just discovered the size of something he'd built.

"Would you like a picture?" the technician asked.

"Yeah," Titus said. "We'll take a few."

We. He said we. Camille heard it and felt the word settle into place like a stone dropped into water. The ripples moved outward through her chest.

The technician printed three images and handed them to Titus. He took them, looked at them for a long moment, then handed them to Camille. His fingers brushed hers during the transfer. His skin was warm.

"Thank you," Camille said to the technician.

"See you in four weeks. We'll do the anatomy scan then."

Titus stood. He pulled his keys from his pocket and waited by the door. Camille tucked the photos into her purse and swung her legs off the table. The gel was still on her skin, cold and sticky. She wiped it with the paper towel the technician offered and pulled her shirt down.

They walked back through the hallway. The waiting room was emptier now. One woman remained, scrolling through her phone. She glanced up as they passed, then looked back down.

Outside, the sun was higher. The parking lot had filled while they were inside. Camille looked toward the third row where Grant had parked. His sedan was still there. She could see the shape of him behind the windshield, sitting exactly as he'd been when they arrived.

Titus walked to his truck and opened the passenger door for her. She climbed in and buckled her seatbelt. He went around to the driver's side and got in. He didn't start the engine. He sat there, keys in his hand, looking through the windshield at nothing.

"You okay?" she asked.

He was quiet for a moment. Then he turned to her. His expression was the same. Controlled. Certain. But his eyes were different. Softer. Not soft. Not gentle. Softer. Like something hard had been set down, just for a moment.

"I heard it," he said.

"The heartbeat?"

"Yeah."

She waited. He didn't say more. He started the engine, checked the mirror, and pulled out of the parking space. As they passed Grant's sedan, Camille looked over. Grant's eyes met hers through the glass. He didn't wave. He didn't roll down the window. He just watched her go, his face blank and gray, his hands still on the wheel.

She turned back to the road ahead.

Titus reached over and put his hand on her thigh again. His grip was firm. His thumb resumed its slow circles against the inside of her knee.

In the rearview mirror, Grant's sedan pulled out of the parking space and followed them home.

The house was quiet when they got back. Titus went to the kitchen and poured a glass of water. He drank it standing at the counter, then poured another and brought it to Camille. She sat on the couch with her feet tucked under her, the ultrasound photos on the cushion beside her.

He sat down next to her. Not close. A few inches between them. He picked up one of the photos and studied it. The baby was a smudge in the center, a pale shape surrounded by darkness. He ran his thumb over the surface like he was memorizing the texture.

"Healthy," he said.

"The technician said everything looked good."

"I heard her." He set the photo down. "I want to be there for the next one."

"I figured you would be."

"And the one after that."

"Okay."

He looked at her. "And when it's time. The birth. I'll be there for that too."

The words were simple. They shouldn't have felt heavy. But they did. They carried weight because of what they didn't say. Because of who they didn't include. Grant was in the driveway, sitting in his car. She could see the sedan through the window. He hadn't come inside. He was waiting for permission that no one had offered.

"Titus," she said.

"Yeah."

"What about Grant?"

He didn't answer immediately. He leaned back into the couch and stretched his arm along the back of the cushion behind her. Not touching her. Just present. "What about him?"

"He's still my husband."

"Is he?"

The question hung in the air. She thought about the drive home. The way Grant had followed them, two car lengths back, the same distance he'd kept on the way there. The way he'd sat in the parking lot for the entire appointment, alone in his car, while another man sat in the chair that should have been his. He hadn't fought it. He hadn't protested. He'd accepted it with the same flat silence he'd accepted everything else.

"Legally," she said.

"Legally." Titus repeated the word like he was tasting it. "Legally is a word for paperwork. We're not talking about paperwork."

"What are we talking about?"

"We're talking about who showed up."

She looked at the ultrasound photos on the cushion. The small smudged shape that was growing inside her. The heartbeat she'd heard through the speaker. Strong and fast and certain.

"I know," she said.

Titus's hand moved from the couch to her shoulder. He pulled her toward him, and she let herself be pulled. Her head came to rest against his chest. She could feel his heartbeat under her ear. Slower than the baby's. Steady.

"He can stay," Titus said. "If that's what you want. He can keep the house, keep the routine, keep whatever makes him feel like he's still part of this. But he's not the father. He knows that. You know that. He knew it before I put that baby in you."

She closed her eyes. The truth of it was so plain. So bare. It had been plain for weeks, maybe months. She'd just been circling it, walking the perimeter, afraid to look directly at the center.

"I know," she said again.

Outside, a car door opened and closed. Grant had finally gotten out. She heard his footsteps on the walkway, the front door, the sound of him entering the house. He moved through the hallway without speaking. The bedroom door closed softly down the hall.

Titus's hand moved to her belly. His palm covered the curve. His fingers pressed gently into the skin.

"Mine," he said.

She didn't argue.

Permanent Residence

The pain was unlike anything she had ever known. It ripped through her body in waves, each one stronger than the last, and she gripped the hospital bed rails until her knuckles turned white. Titus stood at her side, his massive hand covering hers, his presence an anchor in the storm.

"You're doing good, Cami. Just breathe."

She shook her head, sweat plastering her dark hair to her forehead. "I can't. It's too much."

"It's not too much. You're made for this." His voice was calm, unshakable. He had been with her through every contraction, every moment of doubt, each time she thought she might break. And she hadn't broken. Not yet.

Grant was somewhere in the waiting room. She had seen him briefly when they arrived, his face pale and anxious, his hands trembling as he tried to help the nurses with her bags. But they had sent him away. They needed space, and Titus had claimed that space without question.

She had let him.

Now, as the pressure built to an impossible peak, she screamed. Titus's hand never left hers. His voice never wavered.

"Push. One more time. Push."

And then, silence. Followed by the sharp, beautiful cry of new life.

The baby was placed on her chest, warm and wet and perfect. A boy. His eyes were closed, his tiny fists clenched, his skin a shade between her olive and Titus's deep brown. She looked at him, at this impossible creature, and felt her heart crack open in a way she had never known.

"Oh," she breathed. "Oh my God."

Titus leaned down, his forehead touching hers. "You did it, Cami. You made him."

She looked up at him, tears streaming down her face. "We made him."

He kissed her then, slow and deep, while the baby squirmed between them. It was a kiss of ownership, of finality, of a bond that could never be broken. When he pulled back, his eyes were wet. She had never seen him cry before.

"He's beautiful," Titus said. "Just like his mother."

The nurses fussed, taking the baby to clean him, to weigh him, to do all the things babies needed. She watched him go, already feeling the loss of his warmth on her chest. Titus stayed with her, his hand still covering hers.

"I'm not leaving," he said. "Ever."

She nodded. She knew.

Grant came in later, after the baby had been fed and swaddled and placed in her arms again. He stood at the foot of the bed, his hands shoved into his pockets, his eyes darting between her, the baby, and Titus.

"He's... he's yours," Grant said. It wasn't a question.

Titus looked at him. "Yeah. He is."

Grant swallowed hard. His face was pale, his expression hollow. "What happens now?"

Camille looked at the baby in her arms, at the man beside her, at the husband who had been pushed so far away. "We go home. And we figure it out."

But she knew what figure it out meant. It meant Titus coming with them. It meant him moving in. It meant Grant finding a new place in their lives, a smaller one.

The apartment felt different when they returned. Smaller. Cramped. The baby's cries echoed off the walls, and Camille moved through the rooms with a new heaviness in her body and a new lightness in her heart.

Titus had brought his things. A duffel bag, a few tools, some clothes. He set them down in the living room and looked at the master bedroom door.

"That's where we'll sleep," he said. Not a question.

Camille nodded. She was tired, her body still recovering, but she knew this moment was important. This was the final step.

Grant stood in the hallway, watching. He had been told, not asked. He had nodded, just like she had.

"I can take the guest room," Grant said. His voice was quiet, defeated. "Or the study. Whatever works."

Titus looked at him. "The study is fine. We'll need the room for the baby."

Grant nodded again. He turned and walked toward the small room at the end of the hall, his steps slow, his shoulders slumped. Camille watched him go and felt a twinge of something. Guilt? Pity? She pushed it down.

This was what she wanted. This was what she needed.

That night, Titus carried her to the master bedroom. She protested weakly, saying she could walk, but he ignored her. He laid her on the bed, her body still sore from childbirth, and climbed in beside her. He wrapped his arms around her, his chest against her back, his hand resting on her stomach.

"Rest," he said. "I'll take care of everything."

She slept. For the first time in weeks, she slept deeply, dreamlessly, her body curled against his, his warmth surrounding her.

Weeks passed. Her body healed. The baby grew. And Titus became a permanent fixture in their lives.

He took over the master bedroom completely. His clothes filled the closet. His tools filled the drawers. His scent filled the pillows. Camille slept there every night, the baby in a bassinet beside the bed, Titus's arm draped over her.

Grant slept in the study. He had a small bed, a desk, and a few of his things. He kept his head down, did what he was told, and tried not to look at her when she walked past in her nursing bras and loose shirts, her body still heavy with milk and motherhood.

She saw him watching sometimes. She felt his eyes on her when she bent over to pick up the baby, when she sat in the living room with Titus's hand on her knee, when she laughed at something Titus said. Grant's face would twist, then go blank, and he would look away.

It was hard. She knew it was hard. But she also knew it was right.

One evening, after the baby had been fed and put to sleep, Titus took her hand and led her to the bedroom. She was still in her nursing bra, her body soft and full from the birth. She felt vulnerable, exposed.

"You're beautiful," he said, his voice low. "More beautiful than ever."

She looked down at herself. The stretch marks, the loose skin, the changes. "I don't feel beautiful."

He cupped her face in his hands. "You made my son. You carried him, you birthed him, you feed him. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen."

Tears filled her eyes. He kissed them away.

Then he laid her on the bed and undressed her slowly, carefully, as if she were something precious. He was gentle in a way she had never experienced from him. His hands were soft, his mouth tender, his body careful not to press too hard on her still-healing body.

"I've waited for this," he said. "I've waited to claim you properly."

She shivered. "Titus..."

"Shh." He kissed her neck. "Let me worship you."

He did. He kissed every stretch mark, every scar, each inch of skin that had changed. He told her she was beautiful, that she was his, that she had given him everything. His lips traced the curve of her belly, the soft skin of her thighs, the fullness of her breasts that still held milk for his son. He lingered there, his tongue circling her nipples, tasting her, and she gasped at the sensation, at the tenderness of his mouth.

"You're still mine," he murmured against her skin. "Every part of you."

His hand slid between her legs, and she tensed. It had been weeks, and her body was different now, changed by birth, still healing. He felt her hesitation and slowed.

"Relax," he whispered. "I've got you."

His fingers were patient, gentle, exploring her carefully. She was wet, more than she expected, and he groaned when he felt it. "That's my girl. That's my good girl."

He kissed his way down her body, his mouth following the path his hands had traced. When he reached her thighs, he spread them with his palms and pressed his mouth to her. She cried out, her fingers tangling in the sheets. His tongue was slow, deliberate, savoring her. He licked and kissed and sucked with a patience that made her wild, building her pleasure gradually until she was trembling.

"Titus, please," she begged. "Please."

He didn't stop. He held her hips steady and continued, his mouth working her until she shattered, her back arching off the bed, her voice breaking on his name. The orgasm washed through her, intense and overwhelming, and she sobbed with the release of it.

He kissed his way back up her body while she was still trembling. He settled between her legs, his weight on his elbows, and she could feel him, hard and ready, pressing against her entrance.

"Look at me," he said.

She opened her eyes. His face was above hers, his expression intense, possessive.

"This is my bed now. You are my woman. That baby is my son. Do you understand?"

"Yes," she breathed. "Yes, Titus."

"Say it."

"I'm yours. I'm your woman. He's your son."

He pushed forward, slow and deep, and she gasped at the fullness, at the stretch. He paused, letting her adjust, his forehead pressed to hers.

"And Grant?"

She hesitated. He pushed deeper, and she felt the pleasure ripple through her.

"He's... he's just here. He's nothing."

"Good girl." He kissed her, deep and possessive. "Good girl."

He began to move, steady and patient, his eyes locked on hers. Each thrust was deliberate, claiming, a statement of ownership. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him closer, needing more. He groaned, his control slipping, and his rhythm quickened. She could feel every inch of him, the thickness, the length, the way he filled her completely.

"You feel so good," he growled. "So good. Mine. All mine."

"Yours," she repeated, the word falling from her lips like a prayer. "All yours."

He buried his face in her neck, his breath hot against her skin, his hips snapping faster now. She met him thrust for thrust, her body rising to his, the pleasure building again inside her. She was close, so close.

"Come for me," he demanded, his voice rough. "Come on me, Cami."

She did. Her body clenched around him, and she cried out, her nails raking down his back. He followed her over the edge, his own release crashing through him, and she felt him spill inside her, hot and thick, filling her again just as he had before.

They moved together in the aftermath, slow and sweet, a contrast to the rough breeding of the blackout. This was a claiming of a different kind. This was a sealing of the permanent.

He stayed inside her, not ready to separate, his body covering hers, his weight a comfort rather than a burden. She ran her fingers through his hair, feeling the dampness at his temples, the tension finally released from his jaw.

"Mine," he whispered again, softer this time.

"Yours," she answered.

From the study, Grant had heard them. He lay on his small bed, staring at the ceiling, listening to his wife moan for another man. He heard the creak of the bed, the deep rumble of Titus's voice, the high-pitched cries of Camille's pleasure. He heard her say the words, that she was his, that Grant was nothing.

He didn't knock. He didn't interrupt. He just listened, and accepted.

This was his life now. This was his role.

The next morning, Camille woke in Titus's arms, the baby sleeping peacefully in the bassinet. Sunlight streamed through the windows, and she felt a sense of calm she had never known.

She looked at Titus, his face relaxed in sleep, his features strong and beautiful. She touched his cheek, and his eyes opened.

"Good morning," she said.

He smiled, a rare, soft smile. "Good morning, mama."

She laughed. "I'm still getting used to that."

"You'll get used to it." He kissed her forehead. "I need to check the building. But I'll be back soon."

"Okay."

He dressed and left, and she lay in bed for a moment, savoring the warmth. Then she heard Grant moving in the hallway. She got up, wrapped a robe around herself, and went to check on the baby.

Grant was in the kitchen, making coffee. He looked up when she entered, his eyes tired and red-rimmed.

"Morning," he said.

"Morning." She poured herself a cup, her hand steady. "Did you sleep okay?"

He shrugged. "Fine. The study is... it's fine. I'm fine."

She knew he wasn't fine. She could see it in the way he held himself, in the way he avoided her gaze. But she also knew she couldn't fix it. This was the new reality.

"Grant," she said softly. "I know this is hard. But I need you to be okay with it. For the baby's sake."

He looked at her then, really looked at her. "Is that what you want? Him?"

"Yes." She didn't hesitate. "I want him. I want this. I want to be his woman, and I want our son to have a father who can protect him, who can provide for him, who can be strong for him."

"I can be strong," Grant said weakly.

"No. You can't." She shook her head. "You're a good man, Grant. But you're not strong enough for this. For me. For him." She gestured toward the bedroom where the baby slept. "Titus is. And I need you to accept that."

Grant was silent for a long moment. Then he nodded.

"Okay," he said. "Okay. I'll... I'll help. With the baby. With the apartment. Whatever you need."

She smiled, a real smile, grateful for his surrender. "Thank you, Grant."

He nodded again, and turned back to his coffee. She left him there, went to the baby, picked him up and held him close.

Her son. Their son.

She carried him to the living room, sat on the couch, and nursed him. The sun was warm on her skin. The apartment was quiet. And for the first time in months, everything felt right.

Titus returned later, his work done. He sat beside her, his hand on her thigh, and watched the baby feed. His eyes were soft, reverent.

"Look at him," Titus said. "He's perfect."

"He is," she agreed.

"I'm going to take care of him. Of you. Forever."

She leaned into him. "I know."

Grant came out of the kitchen, saw them on the couch, and turned away. He walked to the study and closed the door behind him.

Camille watched him go, then turned back to Titus and the baby. The new family structure was locked. There was no going back.

And she didn't want to.
