Shadows at the Celebration

The ballroom was the kind of place that tried too hard to look expensive, all crystal chandeliers and gold trim, but nobody cared about that. People were already half-drunk, laughing too loud, and the jazz band in the corner was just background noise to the clinking of glasses and the smell of booze and shrimp. Brian stood in the middle of it, his hand on Monica's hip, fingers digging into the tight green dress she wore just to make him squirm. The dress hugged her tits and ass in a way that made it impossible for him to think about anything else. Her hair, long and red, kept falling over his hand as he pulled her in, pretending to whisper something sweet while really just trying to keep his hard-on from showing.

"You look fucking hot," Brian muttered, his voice barely steady, his hand sliding down to the small of her back, feeling the heat of her skin through the thin silk. Monica grinned, her eyes flashing with that look she got when she knew she was making him crazy. She pressed her tits against his chest, her perfume thick and sweet, and Brian's cock twitched in his pants, already thinking about what was under that dress.

"Yeah, you don't look half bad yourself," Monica said, her voice low, her lips brushing his ear. "Maybe later I'll let you fuck me in the bathroom." She pressed her thigh against his crotch, grinding just enough to make him sweat. Brian remembered the first time he'd gotten her naked, how she'd ridden him until he nearly passed out, but tonight he had to play the happy husband in front of all these people.

Brian looked around, feeling like a skinny kid at a party for grown-ups. He was thirty-five, but still had that nervous energy, the kind that made him sweat through his shirt if he thought too hard about the past. High school had been a shitshow, mostly thanks to one asshole, but he tried not to think about it. Monica was the only thing that made him feel like he belonged here. She was gorgeous, with curves that made every guy in the room stare, and sometimes Brian caught himself getting jealous, even though he knew he had no right. Tonight, at least, he could pretend everything was perfect.

People milled around, getting drunker and louder. Brian ducked out to make sure nobody was screwing up the bar, then came back to find Monica surrounded by guys, laughing and tossing her hair. Her dress kept riding up her thighs, and Brian couldn't stop thinking about the black lace bra and panties he'd watched her put on earlier, the way the straps dug into her pale skin. He wanted to drag her upstairs and fuck her right then, but he had to play host instead.

Then the doors banged open and in walked Stanley, the last person Brian wanted to see. Brian's gut clenched. Stanley looked almost exactly the same as in high school—big, cocky, with that look that said he owned the place. His suit was tight across his chest, and he moved through the crowd like he was picking out his next meal. He spotted Brian and grinned, that same asshole smirk from all those years ago.

"Brian, old buddy," Stanley boomed, his voice deep and commanding, clapping a hand on Brian's shoulder with enough force to make him wince slightly. The grip was firm, almost possessive, a reminder of those high school days when Stanley had ruled the halls with intimidation and mockery. "Heard about your little shindig and thought I'd drop by. Congrats on ten years—didn't think you'd make it past the prom, honestly."

Brian tried to smile, but all he could think about was Stanley yanking his underwear up in the locker room, calling him 'Twiggy,' and the time Stanley pulled his pants down in front of everyone, leaving him standing there with his dick out. "Stanley. Wow. Didn't think you'd show up," Brian said, trying not to sound like he was about to puke.

Monica turned at the sound, her curiosity piqued, and Stanley's eyes locked onto her like a magnet. He extended a hand, his smile widening into something charming yet edged with dominance. "And you must be the lucky wife. Monica, right? I'm Stanley—Brian and I go way back." His handshake lingered a beat too long, his thumb brushing the back of her hand in a subtle caress that made her cheeks flush faintly.

"Nice to meet you," Monica said, her voice a little too friendly. She let Stanley hold her hand longer than necessary, and Brian saw her cheeks flush. Stanley smelled like expensive cologne and sweat, and he stood so close Monica had to tilt her head back to look at him. Brian clenched his jaw, but Stanley just started talking, acting like Brian wasn't even there.

"Brian was a real nerd back in the day," Stanley said, grinning like he was sharing some private joke. "Showed up to prom in a tux that looked like it belonged to his dad. Remember that, Brian? You looked like a little kid. And then your date ditched you for me." Stanley laughed, loud enough for everyone to hear. Brian felt his face go red, the memory stinging like a slap.

Monica laughed politely, but there was a spark in her eyes, a curiosity about this man from her husband's past. "Sounds like you two had some wild times," she said, tilting her head, her auburn hair shifting to reveal the curve of her neck. Stanley's gaze dipped there briefly, appreciatively, before meeting her eyes again.

"Wild isn't the half of it," Stanley said, moving in so close Monica had to look up at him. "But forget all that. Monica, you look fucking incredible. That dress is wasted on this crowd." He looked her up and down, not even pretending to be subtle. Brian felt his stomach twist, but at the same time, he couldn't help but get hard watching Stanley eye his wife like she was a piece of meat.

Stanley took over the conversation, bragging about his construction business, all the places he'd been, all the women he'd fucked. "I've got a limo outside," he said, grinning. "Bar's loaded, seats are like a goddamn bed. We should go for a ride. Monica, you ever see the city lights from the back of a limo?"

Brian's gut twisted. "We're kind of busy here, Stan," he said, trying to sound like he wasn't about to lose it. He hated how his voice cracked, like he was still that scared kid.

Stanley just laughed. "Relax, it's your anniversary. Let her have some fun. I'll bring her back in one piece." He looked at Monica, eyes locked on hers. "What do you say? Want to see how the other half lives?"

Monica bit her lip, glancing at Brian, but her cheeks were red and her eyes bright. She looked like she was already halfway out the door. "It sounds fun," she said, her voice low. She squeezed Brian's arm, but he could tell she was barely thinking about him. "Just a quick ride, okay? You'll be fine without me for a little while, right?"

Brian wanted to say no, to grab Monica and tell Stanley to fuck off, but he just stood there, useless. The way Stanley looked at Monica, the way she smiled back—it made Brian feel like he was back in high school, watching someone else take what he wanted. "Yeah, go ahead," he said, forcing a smile. "Have fun."

Brian watched as Monica and Stanley walked out, his heart hammering in his chest. Monica looked back and blew him a kiss, her ass swaying in that tight dress. Stanley's hand was already on her lower back, steering her out like she belonged to him.

In the limo, Monica sank into the leather seats, the smell of cigars and money everywhere. Stanley poured her a glass of champagne, his fingers lingering on hers, his eyes never leaving her chest. The city lights flashed by, but Monica barely noticed.

"To new beginnings," Stanley said, his voice low and rough. Monica drank, feeling his eyes on her like hands. Back at the party, Brian stared at his phone, picturing all the ways Stanley could be touching his wife. When her text came—'This is quite the adventure! Miss you already. xo'—Brian's mind filled with every humiliating thing that could be happening in that limo.

The party kept going, but Brian felt like he was underwater, every laugh and clink of glass just another reminder that his wife was out there with Stanley. He wondered if he'd just handed her over, like some pathetic cuck.
