Sides

Romilly Kant did not look up from the sides when her husband set the coffee on the table. The pages were spread across the kitchen island like a storyboard in progress, each sheet marked with her handwriting in the margins. Blocking notes. Line adjustments. A single red circle around a stage direction that would not work as written. She tapped the circle twice with her fingernail and made a small correction with her pen.

Nico stood at the edge of the light. He knew better than to break her focus when she was in this phase. He had learned that in their first year of marriage, and the lesson had only deepened through six years of call sheets and coffee runs and quiet nights where her attention stayed on the work even after the work was supposed to end. He waited. The coffee steamed between them.

"Sit down," she said without looking up. "I need you to read something."

He pulled out the chair across from her. The kitchen was their second command post, the place where production meetings turned into dinner and dinner turned into prep for the next day. Tonight the dinner plates were still clean in the drying rack. Tonight was all prep.

She slid a page across the island. "Page thirty-seven. The scene where he tells her what he wants."

Nico picked up the page. He knew the scene. He had read every draft of the script three times, logged every revision, timed every version of every speech for the shooting schedule. But he had never read it aloud. He had never been asked to perform it.

"From the top of the page," Romilly said. "His entrance."

Nico cleared his throat. He read the line the way he would read a call sheet confirmation. Flat. Efficient. "I need you to understand what I'm asking."

Romilly's hand stopped moving. She looked at him for the first time since he had entered the room. Her gaze was not unkind, but it was exact. It measured him against a standard he could not see and found him wanting.

"No," she said. "That's not his rhythm."

She stood and walked around the island. Her footsteps were soft on the tile, deliberate. She stopped in front of him and placed her hand flat against his chest, just below his collarbone. The pressure was light but intentional. A framing gesture.

"He's not reading a memo," she said. "He's making a claim. Feel the difference."

Nico's breath caught under her hand. He tried again. "I need you to understand what I'm asking." This time his voice dropped at the end. It sounded like a demand. It sounded almost like a threat.

Romilly's hand stayed on his chest. Her fingers spread slightly, feeling the vibration of his voice. "Better. But you're still holding tension in your throat. He doesn't hold tension. He releases it. He lets the words land and waits for her to feel them."

She stepped back and returned to her chair. She did not look at him while she spoke. "Stellan will know how to do that instinctively. He has the instrument for it. The voice. The body. The presence."

She paused. Her pen hovered over the page. "I'm going to use all of it."

The words hung in the air between them. Nico set the page down slowly. His fingers lingered on the edge of the paper. "For the scene," he said. It was not quite a question.

Romilly looked at him then. Her eyes were steady. "For the scene. For the film. For the production." She tilted her head slightly, a gesture he recognized as her considering angle. "He's used to being the one who controls the room. You can see it in his audition. He walks in like he owns the space. Like the camera should find him, not the other way around."

"That's not how you work," Nico said.

"No. That's not how I work. I place the camera. I set the mark. He hits it or he doesn't work." She tapped the page. "He'll hit it. He just needs to understand who's directing him."

Nico was silent. He picked up his coffee and took a sip. The mug was warm in his hands. He wanted to ask something. He was not sure what the question was, or if he wanted to hear the answer.

"You're thinking something," Romilly said. "Say it."

"I'm thinking about the closed set." He said it carefully, like he was testing a line. "If we're doing intimacy work. If you're blocking it yourself. I won't be in the room."

"You'll be in video village. You'll have the monitor."

"That's not the same."

"No. It's not the same. It's a different position. A different job." She set her pen down and folded her hands on the table. "You're my AD. You run the set. You manage the schedule. You keep the production moving. That's your job. That's what you're good at."

He nodded. He had heard this before. It was the language of their marriage as much as their work. Roles. Responsibilities. Marks to hit.

"But this scene," she continued, "this scene needs a different kind of attention. He needs to feel directed. He needs to feel that someone is watching him with a specific intention. Not just blocking. Not just coverage. A real intention."

"And you're going to give him that intention."

"I'm going to direct him. Fully. The way I direct everything."

Nico set the coffee down. He looked at the page on the table, at her handwriting in the margins, at the red circle she had corrected. He thought about Stellan Goss in the audition room. The way the man had filled the space. The way he had looked at Romilly like she was the one who needed to impress him. He thought about the closed set. The monitor. The distance between what he would see and what he would not touch.

"Noted," he said. He tried to make it sound light. A joke. A way to break the tension that had settled over the kitchen like a new kind of light.

Romilly did not laugh. She did not smile. She picked up her pen and returned to the sides, her attention already gone from him, already moving to the next problem, the next frame, the next mark she would set.

Nico sat across from her and watched her work. The coffee cooled in his hand. The page sat between them like a contract they had both signed without reading the fine print. He waited for her to tell him what came next. She did not. She was already directing the scene in her head, and he was no longer in the frame.

He waited for her to tell him what came next. She did not. She was already directing the scene in her head, and he was no longer in the frame.

First Mark

Day four on a set felt like the first day the production actually existed. The chaos of early week had settled into something resembling rhythm. Crew members moved with purpose instead of panic. The coffee station had found its permanent location. Romilly stood at the monitor, arms crossed, watching Stellan Goss take his mark for the fifth take of a simple two-shot.

He hit it perfectly. Every time. His feet found the tape without looking. His eyeline matched the off-camera reader. His voice landed each syllable with the precise weight she had requested in the tone meeting.

And yet.

Something in his shoulders said he was waiting. He held the position after she called cut, his eyes finding her through the lens. Not challenging. Asking. Like a dog who had retrieved the stick but wanted to know if there was a better game.

"Reset," Romilly said. "Give me one more."

The first AD, a man named Derek who smelled like old coffee and desperation, checked his watch. "Romilly, we're already over on this coverage. The schedule says we need to move to the kitchen insert before midday."

"The schedule says I'm the director, Derek. Reset."

Derek looked at Nico. Nico said nothing. He stood near the craft services table, a cup of water in his hand, his eyes on Romilly. He had that look. The one that said he was watching her work and admiring the precision.

She didn't need his admiration. She needed his silence.

The crew reset. Stellan stayed on his mark. When Romilly walked onto the floor, the grip nearest her took a step back. She didn't acknowledge him. She stopped close to Stellan, near enough to see the sweat beading on his upper lip from the key light.

"You're hitting every mark," she said. "But you're not in the scene."

Stellan's jaw tightened. "I'm giving you exactly what you asked for."

"I asked for a performance. You're giving me a technical exercise. There's a difference."

"Then direct me."

The words hung between them. Direct me. Not a request. A dare. Stellan's eyes held hers, and she saw it then. The thing she had suspected on the first day of prep. He wasn't afraid of her. He was hungry for her.

Most actors wanted approval. They wanted to be told they were good. Stellan wanted to be told what to do.

Romilly stepped closer. She reached up and adjusted his collar, her fingers brushing his throat. His pulse jumped under her touch. She let her hand linger, feeling the quickened rhythm beneath his skin. His breath grew shallow. She could smell him now, the warm musk beneath the wardrobe's neutral soap. She traced her thumb along the tendon in his neck, and she felt him sway toward her, almost imperceptible.

"Your character has been awake for thirty hours," she said, her voice low enough that only he could hear. "He's running on adrenaline and fear. He doesn't have the energy to perform. He has the energy to survive."

She moved her hand to his chest, pressing lightly at first. Then with intent. She could feel his heartbeat through the cotton of his shirt, rapid and insistent. She spread her fingers wide, claiming the space over his sternum. His stomach tightened under her palm. She pressed down, feeling the muscle give way beneath her command.

"His center of gravity is lower. He's not standing up to be seen. He's crouching to hide."

Stellan's breath changed. He lowered his center of gravity, letting his shoulders roll forward. The transformation was immediate. He looked smaller. More dangerous. More real. Her hand stayed on him as he moved, sliding down to rest against his ribs. She could feel each breath he took. She could feel him waiting for her next instruction.

"Yes," Romilly said. "That."

She pulled her hand away slowly. Her fingertips dragged across the fabric. She heard the small sound he made in his throat, a suppressed exhale. She stepped back to the monitor.

"Rolling. Action."

Stellan moved through the scene with a new body. He was coiled. Ready to spring or collapse. She watched his performance bloom across the frame, and something opened in her chest. A hunger. Not for the scene. For him.

But that was later. Now was the shot.

"Cut. Print."

The crew exhaled. Derek checked his watch again and said nothing. Stellan stayed in character for several long seconds after the slate, then shook himself loose. He looked at Romilly, and there it was again. That question.

She gave him nothing. She walked back to video village and sat in the director's chair, watching the playback. Stellan followed. He stood behind her, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating off his body. Not touching. Waiting.

"You want something," she said without turning.

"I want to know what you saw."

"I saw a man who finally stopped performing and started being."

"That was you. Your hands on me. That's what did it."

Romilly turned. She looked up at him. He was tall. Broad. Expensive in every way. But his eyes were soft. Open. Needy.

"I gave you a note," she said. "That's my job."

"That wasn't a note. That was a key."

She stood. They were chest to chest now. The crew was watching. She knew it. She didn't care.

"We're shooting the love scene tomorrow," she said. "Be ready."

"I'm ready now."

"Then prove it in the kitchen insert. Hit your mark. Remember the blocking. And stop looking at me like I'm going to fuck you on craft services time."

She walked away. His gaze burned between her shoulder blades. Nico's gaze pressed from the other direction.

At video village, Nico handed her a fresh coffee. His face was neutral, but his hands were tight around his own cup.

"That was interesting," he said.

"That was work."

"You touched him."

"I directed him."

"You touched him, Romilly."

She took a sip of the coffee. It was perfect. He always got her coffee right. She set the cup down and looked at her husband.

"Yes," she said. "I did. And you watched. And now we're going to talk about what you saw."

The rest of the day passed in a blur of coverage and lighting adjustments and one stubborn dolly track that refused to lay flat. Romilly shot through the lunch hour and into the afternoon, working until the light failed and the grip electric started wrapping cable.

Stellan stayed on set the whole time. He didn't retreat to his trailer. He sat in a folding chair near the monitor, reading, watching her work. Every time she looked up, he was there. Not intrusive. Present.

Nico handled the call sheet for the next day. He printed it in red. He didn't ask why. He just did it.

They wrapped at eight.

The drive home was silent. Romilly watched the streetlights slide past the window. The day's work sat in her shoulders, a pleasant ache. Nico's silence beside her was heavier than usual, weighted with something unsaid.

In the kitchen, she poured two glasses of wine. Nico stood by the counter, his hands in his pockets. He looked like he was waiting for a cue.

"Sit down," she said.

He sat.

She placed the wine in front of him and took the chair across. The table was clear. She liked it that way. No distractions.

"Tell me what you saw today."

Nico blinked. "On set?"

"In video village. When I gave Stellan his note. Tell me what you saw."

He picked up the wine, then set it down again. "I saw you touch his throat. His chest. I saw him respond to it."

"Describe it."

"Describe it how?"

"Like you're writing the shot list. What was the frame?"

Nico closed his eyes. She watched him search for the language. He was good at this. He had learned her vocabulary over years of marriage and production.

"Close up on your hand," he said. "His neck. The way your thumb traced the tendon. Medium shot of your palm on his chest. He leaned into it. I could see his stomach tighten under your fingers."

"What was the angle?"

"Low. Slightly below his eyeline. You were looking up at him but you had the power. The frame said that."

"Good. What else?"

He opened his eyes. They were dark. She could see he was hard. She didn't look down to confirm. She knew.

"His face when you stepped back. He wanted more."

"Did you want more?"

"I wanted to be the one you touched."

Romilly sipped her wine. "That's jealousy."

"Yes."

"I don't have time for jealousy on this production. If you're going to be my AD, you need to be useful. Jealousy slows things down."

He nodded. "I know."

"So convert it."

"How?"

She set down her wine. She leaned forward. Her voice dropped to the register she used for notes on set. Calm. Precise. Unforgiving.

"I'm going to ask you to describe what you saw again. But this time, I want you to tell me what you would have done if you were in my position. What notes would you have given him? Where would you have touched him?"

Nico's breath caught. His hands were flat on the table. She could see him working through the question.

"I would have started at his shoulder," he said. "To ground him. Then moved to his jaw to turn his eyeline. Then his hip to adjust his stance."

"And then?"

"Then I would have put my mouth on him."

Romilly smiled. "That's not a director note. That's a fantasy."

"You asked what I would have done."

"I asked for shot-list language. You gave me a scene you wanted to direct. There's a difference."

She stood. She walked around the table and stood behind him. She placed her hands on his shoulders, the way she had on Stellan's chest. She felt the tension knotted there. She pressed her thumbs into the muscle, and he let out a slow breath.

"I'm going to give you a note now," she said, her lips close to his ear. "I want you to go to the study, open the laptop, and write down everything you saw today. I want it in shot-list format. Camera positions. Blocking. The way his body responded to my touch. I want it by the time I finish my wine."

He stood. He was hard. She saw it. The outline of him pressed against his pants, obvious and unashamed.

"Yes," he said.

"And Nico?"

He turned at the door.

"I want you to be aroused when you write it. That's the point. You transform your jealousy into paperwork. That's how you stay useful."

He left.

She sat back down and finished her wine, listening to the click of keys from the study. She imagined him at the desk, hands shaking, typing out the moment she touched Stellan's throat. She imagined him hard and aching, rereading each line he committed to the page. She imagined him pressing his palm against himself, then remembering he hadn't been given permission.

The keys paused. Started again. Paused. She smiled.

She was going to direct Stellan Goss. She was going to direct her husband. She was going to direct every frame of this production, and she was going to enjoy every second of it.

The keys kept clicking. She poured another glass.

Romilly Kant

The production table caught the same flat light it always did. The production office smelled of stale coffee and the production company's cheap laminate. Romilly Kant sat at the edge of the table, one boot tucked under her, the other planted firm on the linoleum. She thumbed through the call sheets without reading them.

"You can't keep doing this," said Nico Kant from the doorway. He leaned against the frame with his arms crossed, blocking the hallway light.

"Doing what?"

"Showing up late. Skipping the briefings. Acting like none of this matters."

Romilly Kant set the call sheets down. She looked at him. She didn't blink.

"It doesn't matter," she said. "None of it does. You know that, right? The whole production schedule, the shot lists, the crew calls. It's busywork. The only thing that matters is what happens when the camera rolls."

Nico Kant exhaled through his nose. He glanced over his shoulder, then stepped into the office and shut the door behind him. The overhead fluorescent buzzed and flickered, casting his face in pale, shifting light.

"The investors are pulling out," he said quietly. "Found out this morning. We've got maybe two weeks before the whole thing collapses."

Romilly Kant stared at him. Her jaw tightened. She stood up slowly, the chair scraping back against the floor.

"Two weeks," she repeated. "That's enough."

"Enough for what?"

"Enough to finish the shoot. If we cut the filler and focus on the core scenes, we can wrap principal photography in twelve days. I've done it before."

"You've never done anything like this before. Nobody has. The scope alone is..." Nico Kant trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck. "You're talking about condensing a six-week schedule into less than half that. The crew won't go for it."

"The crew will go for it if they get paid," Romilly Kant said. "And they'll get paid if we finish. If we don't, everybody walks away with nothing. You know that. I know that. So let's not pretend we have options."

Nico Kant studied her for a long moment. The fluorescent light hummed between them. Somewhere down the hall, a phone rang and went unanswered.

"What about the night shoots?" he asked. "The exterior sequences? You said those were non-negotiable."

"They are. We keep those. Cut everything else around them. The interior dialogue scenes, the coverage, the insert shots. We can trim that in post or lose it entirely. The exteriors are what make this project. Without them, we're just another cheap production with a decent script and no vision."

"You're asking people to work eighteen-hour days."

"I'm asking people to work eighteen-hour days for two weeks so they can have something to show for the last six months. That's not cruelty, Nico Kant. That's a trade."

He didn't respond right away. He moved to the window and looked out at the parking lot below. A few cars remained under the sodium lights, their windshields catching orange glows. The rest of the lot was empty.

"I'll talk to the department heads," he said finally. "But if this falls apart, it's on you. Not me. Not the production company. You."

Romilly Kant picked up the call sheets again. She folded them once, then again, and tucked them into the back pocket of her jeans.

"It was always on me," she said. "That's the job."

Nico Kant left without another word. The door clicked shut behind him. Romilly Kant stood alone in the production office, listening to the fluorescent light buzz and flicker. She reached into her jacket and pulled out a crumpled pack of cigarettes, then remembered she'd quit three months ago. She put them back.

Twelve days. She'd made it sound simple, but nothing about this would be simple. The crew was already stretched thin, morale already low. The investors had been circling for weeks, and she'd heard the rumors same as everyone else. She just hadn't expected the axe to fall this soon.

She moved to the whiteboard on the far wall, where someone had sketched out the remaining shoot days in blue marker. Six weeks of blocks and arrows, locations and call times, crew assignments and equipment lists. She picked up an eraser and went to work.

When she was done, only four blocks remained. Four night shoots. Four exteriors. The rest was white space.

She capped the marker and stepped back. The office felt smaller than it had an hour ago. The walls pressed in. The air sat thick and stale.

Twelve days. Four nights. One shot at getting it right.

Romilly Kant turned off the light and closed the door behind her. The hallway stretched long and quiet. Her boots echoed against the tile floor as she walked toward the parking lot, where her car waited under the sodium glow, the only one left.

Blocking

The rehearsal space was the green room repurposed. Romilly had cleared the furniture herself, pushing the sagging couch against the far wall and dragging two metal chairs into the center. She wanted nothing between them. No table, no prop, nothing to distract from the geometry of two bodies learning each other.

Stellan stood where she placed him, his back to the cinderblock wall. He had dressed down for the session, wearing a plain gray t-shirt and dark jeans. No costume to hide behind. No character to shield him.

"This scene doesn't exist yet," Romilly said. She stood three feet from him, her hands empty, her voice flat. "We're building it from nothing. I need you to trust that I see the shape before you do."

"I trust you." He said it quickly, maybe too quickly. His eyes tracked her hands.

"Good. Then we start with proximity." She stepped closer. One foot. Then another. She watched him hold his ground, his chest still, his breathing controlled. "You've done intimacy blocking before."

"On three projects. Different coordinators, different rules."

"Forget them. My rules are simple." She lifted her hands and placed them on his shoulders. Not light. Not tentative. She pressed until she felt the solid weight of him settle under her palms. "I place you. I adjust you. You don't move until I say. Understood?"

"Understood."

She slid her hands down his arms, slow and deliberate, until she reached his wrists. She took his hands and lifted them, turning his palms toward her. "Your hands are the problem."

"What problem?"

"They're too careful. You're holding yourself back, keeping distance even when you're close. I can feel it in your fingers." She pressed his palms flat against her ribcage. "Here. This is where they go."

His thumbs rested just below her breasts. She could feel the heat of his hands through her thin cotton shirt. His breathing changed, shallower now, but he didn't move.

"The scene calls for a kiss," she said. "But not yet. First, I need you to learn how to hold still while I work around you."

She stepped back. His hands fell to his sides.

"Again," she said. "From the top."

They ran the approach several times. Each time, she placed his hands differently. On her waist. On her hips. On her face, cupping her jaw. Each time, she corrected the angle of his fingers, the pressure of his thumbs, the distance of his body from hers.

"You're pulling back," she said on the third repetition. "Your shoulders are tight. You're bracing for the kiss instead of arriving at it."

"I'm not used to being directed this closely."

"You're not used to being directed at all. Most directors let you do your thing and call it a day. I don't work that way." She stepped into him, her chest brushing his. "I need you empty. No choices. No instincts. Just my marks and my timing. Can you do that?"

He swallowed. "Yes."

"Say it like you mean it."

"Yes, Romilly."

She held his gaze for a long moment. Then she reached up and pulled his head down to hers.

The kiss wasn't in the script. She had written the scene without one, intending for the tension to live in the space between their mouths. But she needed to know what he felt like. She needed to test his responsiveness.

His lips were warm and still. He didn't move into her, didn't take the lead. He waited. She pressed harder, parting his mouth with hers, and felt the shudder run through his chest.

She pulled back.

"Good," she said. "You waited. That's the discipline I need."

"What was that for?"

"Testing." She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "You passed."

Nico's voice came through the wall speaker. "We're past the halfway mark."

She had almost forgotten he was there. The monitor was set up in the hallway, connected to a single camera mounted in the corner of the room. She had told him to run clock and log everything. She had not told him to speak.

"Noted," she said without looking at the camera.

Stellan's eyes flicked toward the lens.

"Ignore it," she said. "He's furniture."

"He's your husband."

"He's my AD. And right now, he's watching us so he can report back what works and what doesn't. That's his job." She stepped closer again. "Your job is to stay in this body and let me shape it."

She took his hands again, this time pressing them to her lower back. "Hold here. Firm but not gripping. I need to feel your presence, not your anxiety."

His fingers spread across her spine. She could feel the tremor in them, the effort of restraint.

"Now we work on the mouth," she said. "The kiss I just took was informational. The kiss in the scene needs to be a question. You're asking me if I want this. You're not assuming."

"How do I show that?"

"You hesitate. Half an inch from my mouth, you stop. You let me close the distance."

She demonstrated, bringing her face close to his, pausing, letting the air between them grow thick. Then she closed the gap and kissed him, soft and brief.

"Your turn," she said, stepping back.

He moved toward her. His approach was smooth, practiced. He stopped when his mouth was a breath from hers. He waited.

"Good," she whispered. "Now let me come to you."

She didn't move.

The silence stretched. She watched his eyes, the way they searched hers, the way his jaw tightened. He held the position. He didn't break.

"That's the take," she said, stepping around him. "You held the frame. You didn't rush. That's the instinct I need you to kill."

"Kill?"

"The instinct to take. To lead. To assume you know what the scene needs." She circled him slowly, her fingers trailing across his shoulders as she passed. "In this production, I'm the only one who knows. You follow. You wait. You receive."

She stopped in front of him again. "Let's run it again. This time, I want you to keep your hands on me the whole time. From the moment I step in until I step out."

"That's a long hold."

"That's the point."

They ran it four more times. Each repetition, she adjusted something. The angle of his head. The placement of his thumb. The pressure of his palm against her hip. She worked him like a technician tuning an instrument, making micro-corrections until every point of contact felt deliberate.

By the final run, his hands had stopped trembling.

"Better," she said. "You're learning."

"It's exhausting," he admitted.

"Good. That means you're building new pathways. The old ones were lazy." She stepped back and looked at the camera. "Time check."

"We're close to the end of the hour," Nico said. His voice was flat, professional.

"We have a few minutes before I need to be in the color session. Let's use them."

She turned back to Stellan. "Last exercise. I want you to put me against the wall and hold me there."

"Is that in the scene?"

"It will be."

He moved toward her, and she let him. He took her shoulders and walked her backward until her spine hit the cinderblock. The rough surface scraped through her shirt. He pressed his body against hers, one hand on her hip, the other braced beside her head.

"Now what?" he asked.

"Now you wait."

She held his gaze. She could feel his heart through his chest, fast and hard. His breath was warm on her face. He was holding himself back, she could feel that too, the tension in his arms, the way his hips stayed just off hers.

"You're still protecting me," she said. "Stop."

"I don't want to hurt you."

"You won't. I'll tell you if you do."

He pressed closer. His thigh slid between hers. She felt the heat of him, the weight of his body pinning her to the wall.

"Better," she said. "Now hold this."

She let the silence stretch. She watched his face, the concentration in his eyes, the way his lips parted slightly. He was working. He was trying. She could see the effort it took for him to stay in the frame she had built.

"Nico," she said, not breaking eye contact with Stellan. "You have the option to cut."

The words hung in the air. She had told him before the session that he could stop it at any time. That was the rule. He could say the word and she would send Stellan home and they would go back to their apartment and eat dinner like normal people.

"I'm good," Nico said.

She felt something release in her chest. "You're sure?"

"I'm sure."

She looked at the camera. She couldn't see him through the lens, but she knew he was watching. She knew he was seeing everything. Stellan's body against hers. Her hands on his arms. The way she was letting herself be held.

"Good," she said. "Then this is what you'll log."

She turned back to Stellan. "Kiss me."

He did. Slow and deep, his mouth moving against hers with the hesitation she had taught him. His hand slid to her waist, pulling her closer. She felt the wall against her back and his body against her front and the weight of Nico's eyes on both of them.

She broke the kiss.

"That's the shape," she said. "We'll refine it tomorrow."

She pushed gently against Stellan's chest, and he stepped back. His face was flushed. His breathing was uneven.

"Good work," she said. "You're off the clock."

He nodded and left without speaking. The door clicked shut behind him.

Romilly stood against the wall for a moment, letting the silence settle. Then she walked to the door and opened it. Nico was standing in the hallway, his hands in his pockets, his face unreadable.

"Report," she said.

"Full hour. Six repetitions of the approach. Four kisses. One wall hold." He paused. "You offered me the cut near the end."

"I did."

"I didn't take it."

"I know." She stepped closer to him. "Why?"

"Because I wanted to see what you were building."

"And what did you see?"

He looked at her for a long moment. His eyes were dark, his jaw tight. When he spoke, his voice was low.

"I saw you teaching him how to touch you. I saw you letting him learn. And I saw you watching the camera while he kissed you."

She felt the heat rise in her chest. "You were watching me watch you."

"I was."

She reached out and took his hand. She pressed his palm flat against her chest, over her heart.

"Feel that," she said. "That's what you do to me."

His fingers curled against her skin. "Romilly..."

"Not here." She pulled him through the door and into the green room. She pushed him against the wall, the same wall she had just been pressed against, and kissed him hard.

His hands found her waist. She felt the difference immediately, the way he knew her body, the way his hands moved without hesitation. No rehearsal. No direction. Just years of knowing exactly where to touch.

"I watched you," he said against her mouth. "I watched him put his hands on you."

"I know."

"I wanted to come in here."

"I know."

"But I stayed."

She pulled back and looked at him. His eyes were bright, his breathing rough. He was holding himself back, she could feel it in the tension of his arms.

"You did exactly what I needed," she said. "You held the frame."

"Is that what I am now? The frame?"

"You're the container." She pressed her forehead to his. "Without you, it's just bodies. With you, it's a scene. You're the reason it means something."

He let out a shaky breath. "I don't know if I can keep doing this."

"You can. You just did."

She kissed him again, slower this time. She let her hands travel down his chest, his stomach, until she reached the waistband of his jeans.

"I want to log this," she said. "I want you to tell me what you felt while you watched."

"I felt jealous."

"Good. What else?"

"I felt hard."

"Better. What else?"

He closed his eyes. "I felt like I was part of it. Like I was in the room with you even though I was in the hallway."

"That's because you were." She unbuttoned his jeans. "You're always in the room with me, Nico. That's the point."

She sank to her knees.

He made a sound, half protest, half relief. His hand found her hair, not pulling, just resting.

"You don't have to," he said.

"I know." She looked up at him. "But I want to. And I want you to watch."

She held his gaze as she pulled his jeans down his hips. He was already hard, straining against the fabric of his briefs. She pressed her mouth against him there, breathing hot through the cotton, and felt his whole body jerk in response.

"Tell me," she said, hooking her fingers into the waistband and pulling down. "Tell me what you felt when he had me against the wall."

"I felt his hands on your hips," Nico said, his voice rough. "I saw where his thigh was. I saw you let him press into you."

She took him in her hand, stroking slowly, feeling the weight of him. He was thicker than Stellan, she noticed. Different in her palm. Familiar in a way that made her chest ache.

"Keep going," she said.

"I watched your face. I saw you watching the camera. You were thinking about me the whole time."

"Yes." She leaned forward and ran her tongue along the length of him, base to tip, tasting the salt of his skin. His hand tightened in her hair. "I was directing you. I was directing him. I was directing the whole room from that wall."

She took him into her mouth, slow and deliberate, the same way she had moved with Stellan. She was still directing. She was still shaping the scene. She sealed her lips around him and sank down, feeling him hit the back of her throat, feeling the shudder that ran through his legs.

"Romilly." His voice broke on her name.

She pulled back, letting him feel the cool air on the wet skin, then took him again. Deeper this time. She set a rhythm, slow and controlled, her tongue pressing against the underside of him with each stroke. She could feel him fighting the urge to thrust, the way his hips kept still through sheer force of will.

"You're holding back," she said, pulling off just long enough to speak. "Don't. I want all of you."

He groaned and his hips moved, just once, pushing himself deeper into her mouth. She hummed her approval, the vibration traveling through him, and he made a sound that was almost a sob.

"I watched you kiss him," he said, his words coming faster now. "I watched you open your mouth for him. I saw the way you let him hold you."

She worked him faster, her hand following her mouth, twisting on the upstroke. She could taste him changing, saltier now, thicker on her tongue. He was close. She could feel it in the way his thighs were shaking, the way his breathing had gone ragged and shallow.

"I let him hold me because you were watching," she said, taking him out of her mouth just long enough to speak. She stroked him with her hand, slick from her saliva. "Every time he touched me, I was thinking about what it would look like to you. What it would do to you."

"It made me want to come in there and take you off that wall."

"But you didn't."

"No."

"Because you trust me." She took him back into her mouth, deeper than before, and swallowed around him.

He cried out. His hand fisted in her hair, pulling just enough to send sparks down her spine. She felt him pulse against her tongue, once, twice, and then he was coming, hot and thick, saying her name like a question and an answer all at once.

She swallowed every drop. She stayed on her knees, her mouth still around him, until the trembling stopped and his breathing began to slow. Then she pulled back and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.

"That's the take," she said.

He leaned against the wall, breathing hard. "You're going to kill me."

"No." She touched his face. "I'm going to keep you. There's a difference."

She took his hand and led him out of the green room, past the camera, past the monitor, out into the empty hallway where the lights were dim and the building was quiet.

"Tomorrow," she said, "we shoot the scene."

"The one you just blocked?"

"The one I just wrote." She squeezed his hand. "And you'll be on monitor."

"I know."

"And you'll watch."

"I know."

She stopped walking and turned to face him. "And afterward, you'll tell me everything you saw. Every detail. Every angle. I need you to be my eyes when I can't see myself."

He nodded. "I can do that."

"I know you can." She kissed him softly. "That's why you're my husband."

They walked home in silence. The call sheet for tomorrow was already printed, sitting on the kitchen table in red ink. She would add the new scene in the morning.

But tonight, she let herself feel the shape of what she was building. The geometry of three bodies. The frame she was constructing around them.

She was directing the best work of her life.

And she was just getting started.

Monitor

The soundstage lights hummed at half power, casting long shadows across the grip stands and C-stands that lined the walls. Romilly stood at video village, her finger tracing the edge of the monitor cart. The crew had wrapped hours ago. The PA had locked the doors behind them. Only three people remained on the stage, and she had a schedule to keep.

Nico stood by the crafty table, his hands wrapped around a cup of coffee that had gone cold. He hadn't drunk from it in twenty minutes. He was watching her, waiting for the instruction she hadn't yet given.

Stellan sat on the edge of the bed set, his shirt unbuttoned, his feet bare on the taped floor marks. He was already breathing differently. She had noticed that during the first week. When he knew a scene was coming, his shoulders dropped and his mouth softened. He stopped performing and started waiting.

Romilly pulled the camera card from the Alexa. It was small and black and fit in the center of her palm. She held it up, let Nico see it, then slid it into her pocket.

"There's nothing to record," she said. "The card is out. The camera's a prop. You understand?"

Nico nodded. His throat moved when he swallowed.

"I want you at the monitor," she told him. "I want you to watch every frame. And when I ask for playback, I want you to tell me exactly what you saw. Shot by shot. No editing. No softening. You're my script supervisor tonight. Can you do that?"

"Yes," he said.

"Yes what?"

"Yes, Romilly."

She turned to Stellan. He was watching her with that look she had started to recognize. The look that said he was already following her direction before she gave it. She liked that look. She planned to keep earning it.

"Lie back," she said.

Stellan lay back on the bed. The sheets were cheap cotton, the kind that came in bulk from the production supply house. They smelled like fabric softener and dust. She had chosen them herself. She had chosen everything.

Romilly walked to the bed set and stood over him. She looked down at his body, at the way his chest rose and fell, at the line of hair that ran from his navel into his jeans. He was thirty-six and built like someone who had been told he was beautiful for long enough to believe it. She intended to break that belief and rebuild it in her own image.

"Your hands," she said.

He lifted them.

"Above your head. Palms up. You're not holding anything tonight. You're not reaching for anything. You're receiving. Can you receive?"

"I can," he said.

"Show me."

He placed his hands above his head, palms open, fingers relaxed. His biceps tightened with the stretch. She watched his face. He was trying to hold her gaze. She let him for a moment, then she looked away.

She climbed onto the bed. The mattress dipped under her knees. She settled over his hips, her skirt riding up her thighs. She was wearing nothing underneath. She had planned for this the same way she planned for a coverage sequence: shot list, blocking, lighting. Every department prepped.

She unbuttoned his jeans. He lifted his hips to help her. She pulled them down to his thighs, then his briefs. His cock was already hard. She wrapped her hand around it and felt the heat of him, the weight of him, the way it twitched against her palm when she squeezed gently.

"Look at the monitor," she said.

He turned his head. The monitor was twenty feet away, mounted on a cart. Nico sat behind it, his face lit by the blue glow of the screen. He was watching them.

"Don't look at me," she told Stellan. "Look at him. He's your audience tonight. He's the camera. He's the only one who sees this. You perform for him. You perform through him. Do you understand?"

"Yes," Stellan said.

She guided him inside her. The stretch was slow and deliberate. She controlled the depth, the angle, the pace. She had done this before, in rehearsal, but never with penetration. Never with Nico watching. Never with the full frame.

She sat still for a moment, letting herself feel him inside her. He was thick and warm and she could feel him pulsing. She squeezed around him and watched his jaw tighten.

"Your breathing," she said. "It's too fast. You're rushing. Slow it down. Match mine."

She took a long breath in, held it, let it out. He followed her. His chest rose and fell with hers. She could feel him trying to stay present, trying to stay in the scene.

"Your hands," she said. "You're clenching. Open them."

He opened his hands. His palms were slick with sweat.

"Better," she said. "Now your hips. You're chasing. Stop chasing. Let me set the rhythm. You follow. Can you follow?"

"I can," he said.

"Prove it."

She slowed her movement. She made him wait. She could feel the tension in his thighs, the way he wanted to thrust up into her. But he held still. He let her set the pace.

"Good," she said. "That's a take."

She looked at the monitor. Nico was leaning forward, his elbows on the cart, his face inches from the screen. She could see the reflection of the image in his eyes.

"Nico," she said.

His head snapped up. "Yes?"

"Are you watching?"

"Yes."

"Tell me what you see."

He hesitated. She could see him searching for the right words. She waited.

"I see you on top of him," he said. "I see his hands above his head. I see your skirt bunched around your waist. I see where you're connected."

"Good. Keep watching."

She turned back to Stellan. She leaned forward, her hands on his chest, her hair falling around her face. She rode him slowly, deliberately, the way she blocked a scene. Every movement had intention. Every pause had meaning.

She lifted until only the tip of him remained inside her, then sank back down. She felt him shudder beneath her. She did it again. And again. Each time she took him deeper, slower. Each time she let him feel the absence before she filled herself with him again.

"Your eye line," she said. "You're looking at the ceiling. Look at the monitor. Look at him."

Stellan turned his head. He looked at the monitor. He looked at Nico.

"Good," she said. "Hold that. Don't look at me. Look at him. He's the one who sees. He's the one who remembers. I'm just the director."

She felt Stellan's breathing change. His chest rose faster. She could feel him getting closer. His cock seemed to swell inside her, stretching her further.

"Not yet," she said.

She stopped moving. She held still, her hips pressed against his, his cock deep inside her. She watched his face. He was trying to stay in control. She could see the effort in his jaw.

"I didn't say you could come," she told him.

"I know," he said. His voice was rough.

"Then don't."

She waited. She felt him relax, just slightly, the way an actor relaxes when they trust the direction. She felt him give up control.

"Good," she said. "That's a print."

She began to move again. Faster this time. Harder. She ground her hips against his, feeling the pressure build in her clit with each movement. She could feel herself building toward something, a peak she had been climbing since the first day of rehearsals, since she had seen Stellan walk onto her set and known that she would direct him into this bed.

She reached down and touched herself while she rode him. Her fingers found her clit and circled it. She was wet, slick, and the sound of their connection was audible in the quiet soundstage.

"Nico," she said.

"Yes."

"Come here."

She heard his chair scrape against the floor. She heard his footsteps. He stopped at the edge of the bed set. She could feel him standing there, watching.

"Kneel," she said.

He knelt. His face was level with the mattress. He was close enough to touch her, but he didn't reach out. He knew better.

"Watch," she said. "Watch where we connect."

She slowed her movement. She made it visible. She wanted him to see every inch of Stellan's cock sliding into her, every moment of separation and reconnection. She lifted until he nearly slipped out, then took him back inside her in one slow, deliberate stroke.

"Tell me what you see," she said.

"I see him inside you," Nico said. His voice was steady. She was proud of him.

"How deep?"

"All the way."

"And how does it look?"

"It looks like you're in control."

"I am," she said. "I'm always in control. Say it."

"You're always in control," he said.

She felt the peak building again. She didn't try to hold it. She let it rise. She let it fill her. Her fingers moved faster on her clit while she rode him. Her thighs trembled.

"Stellan," she said.

"Yes."

"Look at him. Look at my husband. Look at him while I come."

Stellan turned his head. He looked at Nico. Their eyes met.

Romilly came. It was not a small thing. It was a wave that started in her core and spread outward, through her thighs, through her stomach, through her chest. Her walls clenched around Stellan's cock and she let out a sound she hadn't planned for. She let herself feel it. She let herself be seen feeling it.

She rode through it, slowing gradually, until she was still. She sat on top of him, breathing hard, her skin slick with sweat. She could feel his cock still hard inside her, still waiting.

"You haven't come," she said to Stellan.

"No."

"Do you want to?" she asked.

"Yes."

"Ask me."

"Can I come?" His voice was barely a whisper.

"Louder. Let him hear you."

"Can I come?" he said again, louder this time.

She looked at Nico. He was still kneeling, still watching. His face was flushed.

"Come," she said.

She felt Stellan's hips buck beneath her. She felt him grip the sheets above his head. She felt him pulse inside her, once, twice, and then the warmth of him filling her. She watched his face as he came. She watched the way his mouth opened, the way his eyes squeezed shut.

"Open your eyes," she said. "Look at him. Look at him while you come."

Stellan opened his eyes. He looked at Nico. He held the gaze while the last of it moved through him.

"Good," she said. "That's a wrap."

She climbed off Stellan. She smoothed her skirt. She walked to the monitor cart and turned off the screen.

"Playback," she said.

Nico looked at her. "What?"

"Playback. I want you to tell me what you saw. From the beginning. Shot by shot."

He took a breath. She watched him compose himself.

"Establishing shot," he said. "You on top of him. Your skirt is bunched. His hands are above his head. You're controlling the pace."

"Good. Continue."

"Medium shot. You lean forward. Your hands on his chest. You tell him to look at the monitor. He looks at me."

"Detail," she said. "Give me detail."

"Your hair is falling around your face. His chest is rising faster. You stop moving. You tell him not to come."

"And?"

"He listens. He stops. He waits for your direction."

"Continue."

"Close-up. You start moving again. Faster. Harder. You touch yourself. You call me to the bed. You tell me to kneel. I kneel. You tell me to watch. I watch."

"And what do you see?"

"I see you taking what you want."

"Good," she said. "That's a good report. I'll want notes in the morning."

She walked to the door. She held it open. Stellan walked past her, then Nico. She followed them out, locking the door behind her.

In the parking lot, she kissed Nico on the cheek. It was a small gesture. A professional one.

"Good work tonight," she said. "I'll want the report on my desk by eight."

He nodded again. She could see him trying to find words. She didn't give him time.

She got in her car and drove home, the camera card still in her pocket, the footage unrecorded, the images already burned into her memory.

Company Time

The call sheet read morning call, late morning first shot. Bedroom set. Closed set only. Romilly had written it in her own hand the night before, the red pen moving across the page like she was signing a contract with herself.

Nico arrived first. He always did. He stood in the doorway of the bedroom set with the boom pole already assembled, the furry windsock making it look like a dead animal draped over a stick. He held it the way he held everything she gave him: with careful competence and no visible complaint.

"You'll run the whole scene," she said, not asking.

"I figured." He adjusted the grip, tested the weight. "Where do you want me?"

"On her side. Close. I need clean audio on every line."

She didn't say which lines. She didn't need to.

Stellan came in just before the hour, early for once. He'd learned. The first week he'd walked onto her set like he owned it, and she'd spent the next three weeks teaching him otherwise. Now he stood at the foot of the bed with his hands loose at his sides, waiting for her to tell him where to go.

"Strip to the waist," she said. "Lose the shoes. You're already in the scene."

He pulled his shirt over his head. His chest was good, broad and defined, the kind of body that had gotten him work for fifteen years. He knew how to use it. She'd taught him to use it for her.

Nico moved into position, extending the boom over the bed. His arms were steady. He'd held a boom before, years ago, before he became her AD. She'd forgotten that about him. He had skills she hadn't catalogued in a while.

"Where do you want me for the first block?" Stellan asked.

"On your back. Center of the frame. I'll join you when I'm ready."

He lay down. The sheets were white, hospital white, pressed flat. She'd dressed the bed herself that morning, no wrinkles, no evidence of anyone having been in it before. She would put her own wrinkles in it.

Romilly took her time. She checked the camera herself, though her DP had already lit the room. She adjusted the frame, widened it slightly, wanted more of the bed in shot. She checked the monitor, saw Nico's boom arm at the edge of the frame, decided she liked it there. Evidence of the apparatus. The machinery of the thing.

"Sound check," she said.

Nico lowered the boom. Stellan said his lines from the first scene, the one they'd already shot, the one that had led them here. His voice was low, steady.

"Rolling," Stellan said.

"Camera speed."

"Speed."

"Action."

She climbed onto the bed. She was still dressed, jeans and a black shirt, her hair loose. She'd worn it loose on purpose. She wanted to feel it move.

Stellan stayed on his back, watching her. She straddled his hips, felt him hard already through the denim. Good. He was ready. She'd trained him to be ready.

"Your line," she said.

He blinked. "I don't have a line here."

"You do now. Say it."

He searched her face, found nothing but expectation. "What's the line?"

"Tell me you want this."

"I want this."

"Again. Mean it."

"I want this."

She believed him. That was the problem. That was the whole point.

She leaned down and kissed him, open mouthed, her tongue finding his. He responded immediately, his hands coming up to her waist. She let them stay there. She'd placed them herself in the rehearsal.

Behind her, she heard the boom shift. Nico adjusting. Getting the angle right. She'd told him to stay on her side, close. He was following direction.

She broke the kiss and sat up. "Take off my shirt."

Stellan's hands went to the hem. He pulled it over her head, slow, careful not to catch her hair. She watched his face while he did it. He was focused, present, doing exactly what she'd asked. No vanity. No ego. Just obedience.

She liked that.

"Now the bra."

He unclasped it, slid the straps down her arms. Her breasts fell free. She watched his eyes drop to them, then come back up to her face. Good. He'd learned where to look.

"You can touch them," she said. "But don't rush."

His hands came up, palms flat, warm against her skin. He cupped her breasts, thumbed her nipples, slow circles that made her breath catch. She let him do it. She let him see that it worked.

"Faster," she said.

He obeyed.

She closed her eyes. The sensation was good, familiar now, but the best part was the sound. His breathing. The rustle of sheets. The faint hiss of the boom overhead, picking up every detail. Nico was getting all of it. Clean audio. Every gasp.

She opened her eyes and looked past Stellan's shoulder to where Nico stood. He was watching her, his face neutral, but his knuckles were white on the boom pole. He was hard. She could see it in the line of his jeans.

"Keep going," she said, and she wasn't sure which one of them she was talking to.

Stellan's hands moved lower, over her ribs, her waist, the curve of her hips. He knew the blocking. They'd rehearsed it enough times. He found the button of her jeans, undid it, pulled down the zipper. She lifted her hips to help him.

"Get them off," she said.

He worked the denim down her thighs, past her knees, over her ankles. She kicked them free. She was in nothing but black underwear now, and he was still in his jeans, and Nico was still fully dressed, holding the boom like a lifeline.

"You're behind," she said to Stellan. "Lose the jeans."

He sat up, fumbled with his button, his zipper. She watched him strip, watched his cock spring free, already hard and leaking. He was beautiful. She'd cast him for that. But she'd kept him for something else.

"Lie back."

He lay down. She positioned herself over him, her thighs on either side of his hips, her cunt hovering over his cock. She didn't lower herself. Not yet.

"Say it again," she said.

"I want this."

"Who do you want it from?"

"You."

"Say my name."

"Romilly."

"Again."

"Romilly."

"Good."

She lowered herself onto him, slow, taking him inch by inch. The head of his cock pressed against her entrance, slick and hot, and she felt herself open for him, felt the first stretch as she took him in. Just the tip first. She held there, let herself adjust, let him feel the grip of her around the most sensitive part of him. Then she sank lower, another inch, feeling every ridge of him as he entered her. He filled her completely, the stretch familiar but always new. She let herself feel it for a moment, just the sensation of being full, of him pulsing inside her, of her own wetness coating him.

Then she started to move.

She rode him the way she directed: with precision. Every roll of her hips was deliberate, every shift of her weight calculated. She watched his face, watched his mouth fall open, watched his eyes lose focus. She was in control. She was always in control.

"Eyes on me," she said.

He looked at her.

"Don't look away until I tell you."

He didn't.

She increased the pace. Her thighs burned. She didn't care. The sound of their bodies was loud in the room, wet and rhythmic, and Nico was capturing all of it. She imagined what he heard through the headphones. The slap of skin against skin. Her breath catching in her throat. Stellan's low moans that he couldn't hold back.

She wanted him to hear it. She wanted him to remember it.

"Harder," she said.

Stellan's hands found her hips, gripped her, helped her move. She let him. She let him think he was contributing.

"Faster."

He obeyed. His hips drove up into her, meeting her descent, and the impact sent a shock through her body that made her gasp. She didn't tell him to stop. The angle shifted, and suddenly he was hitting something deep inside her, something that made her vision blur at the edges. She ground down against him on the next stroke, taking him as deep as he could go, and felt her walls clench around him.

"Tell me what you're doing," she said.

"I'm fucking you."

"Try again."

"I'm servicing the director."

"Better."

She leaned forward, her hands on his chest, her hair falling around them like a curtain. She whispered it into his ear.

"You're a tool. You're a piece of equipment I'm using to get what I want. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

"What are you?"

"Your tool."

"Say it again."

"Your tool. Your equipment. Use me."

She bit his shoulder, hard enough to leave a mark. He cried out, and she felt him twitch inside her. Close. He was close.

"Don't come," she said.

He stilled. She felt him fighting it, the muscles in his thighs trembling.

"I said don't come."

"I won't."

She sat up, slowed her hips to a grind. She wanted to feel every inch of him inside her, wanted to feel him hold himself back for her. This was the part she loved most. The control. The knowledge that he would do anything she asked. She rolled her hips in a slow circle, feeling him shift inside her, feeling the head of his cock drag against her front wall. Her own orgasm was building, a tight coil low in her belly, but she wasn't ready. She wanted to draw it out. She wanted Nico to hear every second of it.

She looked over her shoulder at Nico. He was still holding the boom, still positioned perfectly, but his face was flushed and his breathing was ragged. He looked like he was in pain.

"Come here," she said.

He hesitated. "I'm holding the boom."

"Bring it with you."

He moved closer, the boom extending over the bed, the microphone hovering inches above her head. She could see the sweat on his forehead, the tension in his jaw.

"Kneel," she said.

He knelt beside the bed. The boom stayed where it was. He was good at his job. She'd always known that.

"Watch," she said. "Watch me use him."

She started moving again, slow and deep, letting Stellan feel every inch of her. She rose until only the tip of him remained inside her, then sank back down in one long stroke, feeling him fill her all over again. She did it again, and again, each time letting the wet sound of it fill the room, letting Nico hear how ready she was, how much she wanted this.

She watched Nico watch her. She watched his hand move to his own cock, palm pressing through his jeans.

"Don't touch yourself," she said.

His hand dropped.

"Tell me what you see."

He swallowed. "I see you riding him. I see his cock inside you. I see your breasts moving. I see your face."

"Describe my face."

"Focused. Pleased." He paused, his throat working. "In control."

"What else?"

"Wet. You're wet. I can hear it."

She smiled. "Good boy."

She turned back to Stellan. He was still holding on, still fighting it. His eyes were closed.

"Open your eyes," she said.

He opened them.

"Look at me."

He did.

"I'm going to come now," she said. "You're going to stay inside me. You're not going to move. You're going to let me take what I need."

"Yes."

She rode him harder, faster, chasing her own release. She reached down between them, found her clit with her fingers, started circling it in time with her hips. The sensation was electric, immediate, and she felt herself clench around Stellan's cock as she touched herself. He groaned beneath her, and she felt him twitch again, fighting to hold back.

"Don't you dare," she said, and her voice was ragged now, losing its careful control.

She kept moving, kept touching herself, kept chasing it. The coil in her belly tightened, then tightened again, and then it snapped. She came with her eyes open, watching Stellan's face, watching him watch her. The orgasm rolled through her in waves, her cunt spasming around him, her thighs shaking, her breath coming in short gasps. She let herself have it, let herself take it from him. He stayed still. He stayed inside her. He did exactly what she'd told him.

When it was over, she sat there, breathing hard, her body slick with sweat. Stellan was still hard inside her. He was still waiting.

"You can come now," she said.

He did. She felt him pulse inside her, felt him groan, felt his hands grip her hips so hard she knew there would be bruises. He came in long, hot spurts, and she felt every one of them, felt him fill her, felt his release pool inside her and start to leak out around his cock. She let him have it. She let him think it was a reward.

She climbed off him and lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. The boom was still there, still recording. She could hear Nico breathing.

"Cut," she said.

The silence that followed was heavy. She heard Nico lower the boom, set it down carefully on its stand. Then she heard him stand up. She didn't look at him.

"Playback," she said.

He didn't ask which one. He knew.

He crossed to the monitor, hit rewind. The sound of their bodies filled the room, backwards and strange. She closed her eyes and listened.

When it reached the beginning, he stopped.

"Start it," she said.

He pressed play.

She listened to herself direct. Listened to Stellan obey. Listened to the wet sound of her own arousal, the slap of their bodies, the moment she told him to come. She heard it all.

"That's a print," she said.

She sat up, reached for her clothes. Stellan was still on the bed, still catching his breath. Nico was standing at the monitor, his hand on the keyboard, his body still trembling.

She pulled on her shirt, her jeans. She felt Stellan's come running down her thigh. She didn't wipe it off.

"That's a wrap on this setup," she said. "Break for lunch. We'll pick up the coverage after."

Stellan nodded, started getting dressed. Nico stayed where he was.

She walked past him, close enough to smell his sweat. She didn't touch him.

"Good work today," she said.

"Romilly."

She stopped.

"Was that my job?"

She turned. He was still facing the monitor, his back to her. His voice was raw.

"Your job was to hold the boom," she said. "You held it. You got clean audio. You followed direction."

"That's all?"

"That's everything."

He turned to look at her. His eyes were wet, but he wasn't crying. Not yet.

"I came," he said. "From holding the boom. From watching you. From being employed."

She walked back to him, close enough to touch. She didn't.

"Good," she said. "That means you're doing your job."

She left him there, standing in the empty set, the sheets still wet, the air still thick with what they'd done. She had a lunch meeting with her DP. She had a schedule to keep.

The production was moving forward.

Everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.

Recast Threat

Call time was early morning. Stellan was not on set.

Romilly stood at the monitor, coffee in hand, watching the empty frame she had built for him. The bed was dressed, the lighting balanced, the marks taped. Everything waited for the actor who had not arrived.

Nico checked his phone again. "No message. No response."

"Then we wait," Romilly said.

But she didn't wait. She walked the set, touching the furniture, adjusting the placement of a water glass on the nightstand. The silence of the room felt like a test. Stellan was testing her. She felt it in her teeth, the urge to bite back.

Twenty minutes past the hour, Stellan walked through the door. He wasn't dressed. Street clothes, jeans and a wrinkled shirt. His hair was undone. His eyes were dull.

"I overslept," he said.

Romilly didn't turn around. She kept her back to him, her hand on the water glass, her voice flat. "Overslept."

"I didn't mean to."

"You didn't mean to what?"

"Disrespect the call time."

She turned. She looked at him fully. His posture was wrong. His face was puffy. His hands were buried in his pockets. He looked like a man who had forgotten which set he was on.

"You're not ready," Romilly said. It wasn't a question.

Stellan looked at the bed, at the marks, at her. "I can get ready in ten minutes."

"No."

The word landed like a slate slam. The crew stopped moving. The silence thickened. Romilly walked toward him, her steps measured, her eyes fixed on his.

"You arrived late and unprepared. No wardrobe. No character. You're not on my set."

Each sentence was a cut. Stellan flinched but didn't look away.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"Sorry isn't a call time. It isn't a rehearsal. It isn't a take."

She stopped in front of him. She was shorter than him. She didn't care. She looked up at him, and he looked down at her, and she saw the calculation in his eyes. The myth, the ego, the part of him that thought his presence was the gift.

She destroyed that thought with her next words.

"Everyone out. Production meeting in the lobby in five minutes. Nico, stay."

The crew dispersed. The set emptied. Stellan stood alone in the middle of the room, still in his street clothes, still not ready. Romilly walked to the door and stopped. Her back stayed turned.

"You're dismissed for the day. Tomorrow, call time is earlier. You'll be ready and dressed. You'll be the actor I hired, or you won't be here at all."

"Romilly."

"You'll address me as Director or Ms. Kant."

She left.

Nico followed her to the lobby. The crew stood in a loose circle, waiting for direction. Romilly didn't give them one. She stood at the center, her arms crossed, her face unreadable.

"We're shut down for the day," she said. "Full rate for everyone. Go home. Rest. Tomorrow, we start early and sharp."

The crew dispersed. The lobby emptied. Nico stood beside her, his hands in his pockets, his eyes on her face.

"You fired him," he said.

"I dismissed him for the day."

"You threatened to recast him."

"I didn't say that."

"You didn't have to."

Romilly looked at him. Nico's face was careful, neutral, but she saw the question underneath. The hope, the fear, the confusion beneath them.

"What?" she said.

"Nothing."

"Say it."

Nico hesitated. He looked at the floor, then back at her. "I thought maybe this was over."

"What was over?"

"The closed set. The rider. All of it."

Romilly stepped closer to him. She put her hand on his chest, over his heart, and felt it beating fast.

"You thought I'd end the production because he showed up late?"

"I thought you might end it because he showed you he wasn't worth the trouble."

Romilly looked at him for a long moment. She saw the hope in his eyes. The hope that she would choose him. The hope that the dynamic would collapse back into marriage, into safety, into the familiar shape of their life before Stellan.

She didn't give him that hope.

"He's worth the trouble," she said. "He just needs to be reminded of the terms."

Nico's face fell. Barely a fraction. Enough for her to see.

"You wanted it to be over," she said.

"I wanted you to choose me."

"I did choose you. I chose you when I put you on the monitor, when I made you hold the boom, when I asked you for playback."

"That isn't choosing me. That's using me."

Romilly stepped back. She looked at him, really looked at him, and she saw the wound she had opened. The wound she had been opening for weeks now, layer by layer, scene by scene.

"I'm using you both," she said. "That's the point. That's the production."

Nico shook his head. "I don't know if I can do this anymore."

The words hit her like a punch. They landed in her chest, her throat, the space behind her eyes. She didn't show it. She kept her face still, her voice level.

"You can," she said. "You will."

"Romilly."

"Nico."

They stood in the empty lobby, the morning light streaming through the glass doors, the silence between them heavy with everything they had built and everything they were still building.

"I need you," she said. It was the closest she had come to vulnerability in weeks. She felt it like a bruise, tender and exposed. "I need you on this set, in this production. I need you to trust me."

"I do trust you."

"Then trust me now."

Nico looked at her for a long moment. Then he nodded. Just once. Just enough.

"Okay," he said.

"Okay."

She took his hand. She squeezed it. Then she let go and walked toward the door.

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"Home. I have a call sheet to rewrite."

She left him standing in the lobby, the morning light falling across his face, the weight of her trust settling on his shoulders like a second skin.

That night, she printed the call sheet in red. Early call. Wardrobe ready. Character ready. No excuses. No second chances.

She slid it under Stellan's door late that night. She didn't knock. She didn't wait for a response.

Before dawn, she arrived on set. The crew was already there, quiet, watchful. Nico was at the monitor, checking the frame. Romilly walked to the center of the room and stood where she always stood, where she could see everything, where she could control everything.

Moments before call time, Stellan walked through the door.

He was dressed. His hair was done. His face was clean, his eyes clear, his posture correct. He walked to his mark and stopped. He didn't look at her. He looked at Nico.

"I owe you an apology," Stellan said.

Nico looked up from the monitor. His face was careful, neutral, waiting.

"I disrespected the call time, the production, and you."

He paused. He took a breath. He held it.

"I'm sorry."

Nico looked at Romilly. She gave him nothing. She let him decide.

"Accepted," Nico said.

Stellan nodded. Then he turned to Romilly. He met her eyes. He held them.

"Ms. Kant," he said. "I'm ready for my marks."

Romilly looked at him. She looked at the lines of his body, the tension in his shoulders, the submission in his stance. He had learned. He had bent. He had chosen to stay in the production.

She walked to him. She stopped in front of him. She reached up and touched his face, her fingers light on his jaw, her eyes searching his.

"Good," she said. "Now let's get to work."

She turned to the crew. She raised her voice, clear and sharp, the sound of a director reclaiming her set.

"Positions. First team. We're rolling in five."

The crew moved. The lights adjusted. The frame tightened. Romilly walked to the monitor and stood beside Nico, her hand on his shoulder, her eyes on the screen.

"You handled that well," she said, low enough that only he could hear.

"He apologized to me first," Nico said. "That was smart."

"That was necessary."

They watched the monitor together. Stellan stood on his mark, waiting for her direction, ready to follow.

"He knows now," Romilly said. "He knows who runs this set."

Nico looked at her. "And who runs this marriage?"

Romilly looked at him. She held his gaze for a long moment, the silence between them filled with everything they had built and everything they were still building.

"Same person," she said.

She turned back to the monitor. She raised her hand. She brought it down.

"Action."

Picture Wrap

The call sheet for the final night of the closed rider sat on Romilly's desk in the production office. She had printed it herself, red ink for the last time. The date, the time, the scene number. The crew list with only three names.

She traced her finger along the margin where she had written in her own hand: No monitors. No playback. No witnesses but the ones I choose.

Romilly looked up at Nico standing in the doorway. He held a coffee for her. He always held a coffee for her. But tonight his hand trembled slightly as he offered it.

"You're nervous," she said.

"No. I'm... I don't know what I am." He set the coffee on her desk. "It's the last night."

"It's the last night of the rider. Not the last night of us."

She watched him process that. Watched his throat move when he swallowed. His eyes dropped to the call sheet then lifted back to her face.

"What do you need from me tonight?" he asked.

She stood and walked around the desk. She stopped in front of him and reached up to touch his jaw. He leaned into her palm like a man starved for contact.

"I need you in the bed," she said. "Not the monitor. The bed. Can you do that?"

"Yes." His voice cracked. "Yes, Romilly. I can do that."

She kissed him. A real kiss. Not a direction. Not a note. A kiss that tasted like the beginning of something she had been building toward since the first day she saw Stellan's face on the casting tape.

Then she pulled back and her voice returned to director mode.

"Good. He's already on set. We start soon."

The set was the bedroom. The same bedroom they had used for every closed rider scene. The same bed. The same walls. The same floor marks that Romilly had laid herself with blue tape on the first day of production.

Stellan stood by the window. He had arrived early. He had arrived clean. He had arrived ready. The recast threat had worked exactly as she intended. He was now the actor she wanted him to be. Obedient. Responsive. Hungry for her approval.

"Nico's joining us tonight," she said as she entered. "Final scene. You'll finish me while he holds me. Then I'll finish him. Then we cut."

Stellan nodded. He did not ask questions. He did not push boundaries. He simply said, "Where do you want me?"

She pointed to the bed. "On your back. Clothes off. Wait for my mark."

She turned to Nico who stood frozen at the threshold.

"Come here."

He walked to her like a man in a dream. She took his hands and placed them on her shoulders. Then she stepped back and looked at him.

"You're not the AD tonight. You're my husband. And you're going to hold me while he fucks me. Can you do that without falling apart?"

"I can do that," Nico said.

"Good. Clothes off. Get on the bed behind her. I want your chest against her back. I want your arms around her. I want you to be her frame."

Nico undressed. She watched him. She had seen his body a thousand times but tonight it looked different. Tonight he was not a husband undressing for sex. He was an actor preparing for a scene. A scene she had written. A scene she would direct.

She undressed herself. Slowly. Methodically. She removed her shirt and her jeans and her underwear with the same precision she used to remove a lens cap. She was preparing herself for the shot.

She climbed onto the bed. Nico moved behind her. His chest pressed against her back. His arms wrapped around her waist. His breath came hot and fast against her neck.

"Steady," she said. "Breathe with me."

She felt him try to match her rhythm. Felt his heart beating through his ribs. Felt his cock pressed against her lower back, already hard, already hot against her skin.

She looked at Stellan. He lay on his back before her. His body was a landscape she had learned to read. The slight tension in his shoulders. The way his hands gripped the sheets. The hunger in his eyes.

"Ready?" she asked.

"Ready," he said.

She positioned herself over him. She took his cock in her hand and guided it to her entrance. She did not sink down. Not yet. She held him there, at the threshold, feeling the blunt head of him pressing against her slick heat. She was wet. She had been wet since she kissed Nico in the office. Since she wrote the note on the call sheet. Since she conceived this scene.

"Final scene," she said. "I want you to take your time. I want you to feel every moment. I want you to remember this. Because when we cut, we don't come back to this. This is the last take."

She sank down.

The feeling of him inside her was familiar now. She had directed this scene before. But this time was different. This time Nico's arms were around her. This time his breath was in her ear. This time she was not alone with Stellan. She was between them.

Romilly began to move. Slowly. Deliberately. Each rise and fall of her hips a controlled choice. She watched Stellan's face. Watched his eyes close. Watched his mouth open.

"No," she said. "Eyes open. Look at me."

He opened his eyes. They were dark and wet and full of her.

"Good. Now look at him."

Stellan's gaze shifted to Nico. Nico's arms tightened around Romilly. She felt the tension pass between the two men like a current.

"Say his name," Romilly said. "I want to hear you say his name while you're inside me."

Stellan's voice was rough. "Nico."

"Again."

"Nico."

She rocked harder. Faster. Her breath came in short sharp bursts. She could feel Nico's cock twitching against her back each time she lowered herself onto Stellan. Could feel the way his fingers dug into her ribs when she let out a moan. Could feel Stellan's hips lifting to meet her, his cock pushing deeper, stretching her open in a way that made her gasp.

"Nico," Stellan said again. "She's so tight. She's so wet. She's yours."

Romilly closed her eyes. The words. The feeling. The two men holding her in their attention. She was the director. She was the star. She was the production.

She opened her eyes.

"I'm close," she said. "Don't stop. Don't change tempo. Keep going."

Stellan obeyed. He kept the same rhythm. The same depth. The same pace. He did not speed up. He did not slow down. He was a machine built to her specification.

Nico's hands moved from her waist to her breasts. He cupped them. He pressed his mouth to her shoulder. He whispered, "I love you. I love you. I love you."

She did not answer. She was focused on the feeling building inside her. The wave. The crest. The moment.

"Now," she said. "Both of you. Now."

Stellan thrust up. Nico held her down. She came between them. The orgasm ripped through her body and she screamed. Not a word. Just sound. Pure. Raw. Unscripted.

She collapsed forward onto Stellan's chest. Nico's arms still around her. The three of them breathing together.

After a long moment, Romilly lifted her head. She looked at Nico. His eyes were wet.

"Your turn," she said.

She pulled off Stellan and turned to face Nico. He lay back on the pillows. She positioned herself over him. She took his cock in her hand.

"Same notes," she said. "Same direction. I want you to finish the way he did. Controlled. Obedient. Mine."

She sank down onto him. The familiar stretch. The familiar angle. But the feeling was different. This was Nico. This was her husband. This was the man she had built her life with.

She began to move. The same rhythm. The same pace. She watched his face. Watched his eyes. Watched him try to hold on.

"Don't come yet," she said. "Not until I tell you."

His hands gripped her hips. His breath came in gasps. His body trembled beneath her.

"Romilly," he said. "Please."

"Not yet."

She slowed down. She made him wait. She made him feel every second of her control.

"Look at him," she said.

Nico turned his head. Stellan lay beside them, watching. His hand moved to his own cock.

"No," Romilly said. "Not tonight. Tonight you watch."

Stellan's hand fell away.

Nico looked back at her. His eyes were desperate. His body was shaking.

"Now," she said. "Come for me now."

He did. He came with a sound that was almost a sob. His body arched into hers. His hands clutched her hips. His eyes stayed open and stayed on her.

She rode him through it. She milked every drop of his orgasm until he was spent and still beneath her.

Then she stopped.

She looked at Stellan. She looked at Nico. She looked at the three of them in the bed. The production was complete. The final scene was shot. There was nothing left to direct.

Except there was.

"Cut," she said.

The word hung in the air. Silence. The only sound was their breathing. The only movement was the slow rise and fall of their chests.

Romilly did not move. She stayed on top of Nico. She stayed in his arms. She stayed in the frame she had built.

And for the first time in weeks, she did not give any notes.

She just lay there, between them, and let the silence hold her.

Festival Cut

The film wrapped late Tuesday night. The rider expired at midnight.

Romilly stood in the empty soundstage, watching the grips coil cable while the electrics packed up their kit. The set bed had been struck. The taped marks had been peeled from the floor. All that remained was the smell of sweat and gaffer tape and the faint chemical ghost of hair product.

Nico appeared beside her with a clipboard. "That's picture wrap on principal photography."

She took the clipboard from him and read the final call sheet. Her own signature sat at the bottom, approving the last day's work.

"The rider," she said. "It expires at midnight."

"I know."

She looked at him. In the low work lights his face looked tired and open. He had held the boom for the final scene. He had watched her give Stellan direction. He had not flinched when she asked for another take.

"What happens now?" he asked.

She did not answer.

At home, the house felt empty. Romilly showered first, then sat on the edge of the bed in a robe, looking at her phone. Stellan had texted: "Good work today. Let me know when you want to talk about the edit."

She did not respond.

Nico came out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. He stood in the doorway, watching her.

"Romilly."

"Mm."

"I want to talk about the call sheets."

She looked up. "The call sheets."

"The ones at home. The ones you've been printing for the closed set." He took a breath. "I want them to continue."

She set the phone down. "Explain."

He came to the bed and sat beside her. Not touching. Just close enough that she could feel his warmth.

"The rider expires tonight," he said. "But I don't want the production to end. I want to keep having call sheets. I want to know my marks. I want to understand what you need from me and when you need it."

She watched his face. Saw the vulnerability there. The need.

"Why?"

"Because I'm better when you direct me." He said it simply, without shame. "I'm better when I have a job to do for you. When I know my role."

She considered this. The marriage had always been a production. She had always been directing. But he was asking her to formalize it. To make it explicit.

"And Stellan?"

"He's part of the production now." Nico's voice was steady. "If you want him to be. I accept that."

She reached out and touched his face. Ran her thumb along his jaw. "You're asking me to keep directing you."

"Yes."

"Forever."

"If that's what you want."

She leaned in and kissed him. Soft. Controlled. When she pulled back, she was already thinking about the standing sheet.

"Get dressed," she said. "We're going to the office."

They drove to the production office in the small hours. The building was dark. Romilly let them in with her key and walked to her desk. She pulled out a fresh piece of paper and uncapped a red pen.

Nico stood behind her, watching.

"The standing call sheet," she said. "Effective immediately. No expiration date."

She wrote:

PRODUCTION: The Marriage DIRECTOR: Romilly Kant FIRST AD: Nico Kant LEAD ACTOR: Stellan Goss

She stopped. Looked at the paper.

"Stellan needs to accept this," she said.

"He will."

"You don't know that."

"I know he will." Nico's hand landed on her shoulder. "He told me tonight. Before the final scene. He said he wants to keep working with you."

Romilly turned. "He told you."

"He said he's never been directed like this before. He said he doesn't want to go back to being the one in charge."

She felt something loosen in her chest. She had not realized she was holding tension there.

She picked up her phone and called Stellan.

He answered on the second ring. "Romilly."

"The rider expires at midnight," she said.

"I know."

"I'm printing a standing call sheet. For the marriage. It's ongoing."

A pause. Then: "What's my role?"

"Lead actor. Available for pickups as needed."

"Pickups."

"Scenes I want to reshoot. Scenes I want to add. Scenes I want to rehearse."

Another pause. She could hear him breathing.

"I'm in," he said.

"Good. Report to the house tomorrow morning for a production meeting."

"Yes, Director."

She hung up. Looked at Nico. "He's in."

Nico's hand tightened on her shoulder. "Then finish the sheet."

She turned back to the paper. Wrote:

SCHEDULE: Standing. Call times as directed. LOCATION: Primary residence. Secondary locations as needed. RIDER: Closed set. All parties sign. No expiration.

She signed her name at the bottom. Handed the pen to Nico.

He signed without hesitation.

"Stellan will sign tomorrow," she said.

"Good."

She looked at the sheet. Red pen on white paper. The marriage, formalized.

"Now," she said, "let's go home. I have notes for you."

At the house, she directed Nico to the bedroom. She had him stand on a mark she placed with a piece of tape on the hardwood floor.

"Face the bed," she said.

He did.

She walked around him. Looked at his posture. His shoulders were back. His hands were at his sides. Ready.

"Tonight was the end of the film," she said. "Tomorrow is the beginning of the production. Do you understand the difference?"

"Yes."

"The film had an ending. This doesn't."

"I understand."

She stepped in front of him. Reached up and undid the top button of his shirt. Then the next. Then the next. Her fingers moved with the same precision she used on set. Each button a beat. Each breath he took a cue she was tracking.

"I'm going to direct you now," she said. "And I'm going to keep directing you. For as long as I want."

"Yes."

She pushed the shirt off his shoulders. Let it fall to the floor. Ran her palms across his chest. Felt the muscle beneath the skin. The slight hitch in his breathing when her fingers traced the line of his sternum.

"Tell me what you want," she said.

"I want to be your AD. I want to run your sets. I want to hold your boom and run your clock and give you playback." His voice was low. "I want to watch you direct Stellan. I want to watch you direct me. I want to be essential to your vision."

"You are."

"Then use me."

She stepped closer. Pressed her body against his. Felt his hardness through his pants, the heat of him against her hip. She let her hand drift down between them. Cupped him through the fabric. Felt him pulse against her palm.

"I'm going to fuck you now," she said. "And I'm going to give you notes while I do it. And you're going to take them."

"Yes, Director."

She unfastened his belt. Unzipped his pants slowly. Let her fingers brush against him through the thin cotton underneath. He inhaled sharply but held still. Good. She noted it for later.

"You're already hard," she said. Not a question.

"I've been hard since the office."

She looked at him. His pupils were blown. His jaw tight. He was holding himself in check the way he held the boom. Steady. Waiting for her cue.

She pushed his pants down. Took him in her hand. Stroked him once, twice, watching his face. His lips parted. His breath came faster. But he didn't move. Didn't thrust into her hand. Waited.

"Good," she said. "That's the kind of control I need from you."

She pushed him onto the bed. He sat on the edge, then lay back when she pressed down on his chest. She stripped off her robe. Let him look. Let him see her in the dim light filtering through the curtains.

She straddled him. Looked down at his face.

"Your performance tonight," she said, "during the final scene. You held the boom steady. You didn't flinch when I asked for another take. You gave me what I needed."

"I tried."

"You succeeded." She reached down and wrapped her hand around him again. Positioned him. Let the head of his cock rest against her entrance. "But I want more. I want you to anticipate my needs before I voice them. I want you to know what I'm going to ask before I ask it."

"How?"

"By watching. By learning. By making this marriage your primary production."

She lowered herself. Slowly. Felt the head push into her. Felt herself stretch around him. She paused. Let herself adjust. Let him feel the wet heat of her.

"Good," she said. "Now watch me."

She sank down further. Took him inch by inch. His hands gripped the sheets. His stomach was tight. She could see the effort it took him to stay still.

"That's it," she said. "Stay there. Don't move."

She began to roll her hips. Slow. Controlled. Each motion deliberate. She braced her hands on his chest and let herself feel him inside her. The fullness. The pressure. The way he hit the spot that made her breath catch.

"This is what I want," she said. "This rhythm. This pace. I want you to match it when I tell you to."

"Yes."

"I want you to remember this. I want you to be able to describe it to me later. In detail."

"I will."

She rode him. Let herself feel the pleasure of control. The pleasure of being watched. The pleasure of being the one who set the pace. She varied her rhythm. Slower. Then faster. Then slow again. Each time she changed tempo, she watched his face. Saw the way his breathing shifted. The way his jaw clenched when she tightened around him.

"You're close," she said.

"Yes."

"Not yet."

He made a sound. Something between a groan and a gasp. His fingers twisted in the sheets.

"I'll tell you when," she said. "You come when I say you come."

"Yes, Director."

She leaned forward. Changed the angle. Let her clit drag against him with each motion. The pleasure built in her. Warm. Spreading. She let it. Let it grow. Let it take her.

"Now," she said. "Come with me."

She moved faster. Felt him thrust up into her. Finally. His control breaking. His hands coming up to grip her hips. She let him. Let him pull her down onto him. Let the rhythm shift. Let herself go.

When she came, it was quiet. A release that felt like a decision. She felt him pulse inside her. Felt the warmth of him filling her. His groan. The way his body went rigid and then slack beneath her.

She stayed on top of him, breathing hard. His hands still on her hips. His cock softening inside her.

"That's a print," she said.

He laughed. A soft, surprised sound.

"What?" she asked.

"You said print."

"I did."

"That means you're keeping it."

"I am." She leaned down and kissed him. "I'm keeping all of it. The takes. The scenes. The production. I'm keeping you."

"Good."

She rolled off him. Lay beside him in the dark. His arm came around her. She let it. Let him hold her. Let herself be held.

"I'm going to print the standing sheet in the morning," she said. "I'm going to frame it. Put it on my office wall."

"Red pen?"

"Red pen."

He turned to look at her. "Romilly."

"Mm."

"I love you."

She reached out and touched his face. "I know."

In the morning, she printed the standing sheet. Signed it. Dated it.

Then she drove to the production office and framed it. Hung it on the wall above her desk.

When she got home, Stellan was waiting on the porch.

"Production meeting?" he asked.

"Production meeting."

She let him in. Led him to the living room, where Nico was already sitting with a notebook.

"Sign the standing sheet," she said, handing it to Stellan.

He read it. Looked at her. Then signed.

"Good." She took the sheet back. "Now. Let's talk about the next scene."

And she began to direct.
