Blood and Ownership

Violet Goodwin stood frozen in the doorway of their modest living room, her heart hammering against her ribs like it wanted to escape. The scent of cigar smoke and fear hung thick in the air. Mateo, her husband, knelt on the tiled floor with his hands bound behind his back, blood already trickling from a split lip. Otis Dawson loomed over him, tall and broad-shouldered, his scarred face twisted into a cold smile that didn't reach his black eyes.

"You thought you could steal from me, Mateo?" Otis's voice was low and rough, each word landing like a blow. "My money. My routes. My fucking empire. And for what? A bigger house? A prettier wife?"

Mateo lifted his head, eyes wild. "Otis, please. It was a mistake. I can fix it. I swear on my life."

Otis laughed, a short, ugly sound. "Your life? That's not yours to bargain with anymore."

Violet couldn't move. Her olive skin felt clammy, her long dark hair sticking to her neck. She wanted to scream, to run, but her legs wouldn't obey. This was supposed to be a normal evening. Mateo had come home late again, and she'd been waiting with dinner. Now everything had shattered.

Two of Otis's men flanked the room, guns drawn but silent. Otis stepped closer to Mateo, pulling a pistol from his belt. The metal gleamed under the overhead light.

"Violet, don't watch," Mateo choked out, his voice breaking. "Close your eyes, baby. Please."

She couldn't. Her piercing brown eyes stayed locked on the scene, terror rooting her in place. Otis glanced at her, his gaze raking over her curvaceous figure in the simple sundress she'd worn that day. Something dark and possessive flickered there.

"Look at her," Otis said to Mateo, but his eyes never left Violet. "Your wife deserves better than a thief. She deserves a man who knows how to keep what's his."

The gunshot cracked through the room like thunder. Mateo's body jerked once and slumped forward, a dark pool spreading beneath him. Violet's breath caught in her throat. A strangled sound escaped her lips, half sob, half denial. The room tilted. She tasted bile.

Otis holstered the gun with casual ease and turned to her fully. "He's gone. Embezzlement paid in blood. But the debt isn't settled yet."

Violet backed up a step, her hands flying to her mouth. "No... please. I didn't know. I swear I didn't."

"I believe you," Otis said, stepping over Mateo's body without a glance. He closed the distance between them in two strides. His hand shot out, fingers wrapping around her wrist, firm but not yet bruising. "You're not the thief. You're the payment."

She tried to pull away, but his grip tightened. Up close, she smelled leather, gunpowder, and something masculine and dangerous. His scarred face was inches from hers, dark beard brushing her cheek as he leaned in.

"You belong to me now, Violet. Retribution for what your husband took. Every inch of you."

Her mind screamed. This couldn't be happening. She was a wife, not property. But the body on the floor said otherwise. Otis's men watched impassively. No one would help her.

He dragged her outside into the humid night air, his men falling in behind. A black SUV waited at the curb. Violet stumbled once on the steps, and Otis caught her, his arm banding around her waist like iron. "Steady. You'll need your strength for what's coming."

The drive to his compound blurred. Violet sat rigid in the back seat beside him, tears streaking her face. She kept seeing Mateo's final moment on repeat. Otis's hand rested on her thigh, heavy and possessive, thumb stroking once in a mockery of comfort. "You cry now," he murmured. "Later you'll learn not to."

The compound was a fortress of concrete and iron gates, armed guards patrolling the perimeter. Inside, the air was cooler, scented with expensive cologne and polished wood. Otis led her through echoing halls to a master bedroom that felt more like a throne room. A massive bed dominated the space, dark sheets already turned down. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city lights, but the heavy curtains were drawn.

He released her wrist and locked the door behind them. The click echoed like another gunshot.

"Strip," he ordered, voice calm but leaving no room for argument. He shrugged off his jacket, revealing the tight black shirt stretched over his muscular frame. Scars peeked from his collar, reminders of a violent life.

Violet shook her head, backing toward the bed. "Otis, I... I can't. Not like this."

"You can. And you will." He advanced slowly, each step deliberate. "Your husband's debt made you mine. Fight me and it gets worse. Submit and maybe you'll survive the night with some dignity left."

Her fingers trembled as she reached for the straps of her dress. Humiliation burned hotter than fear. She let the fabric fall, pooling at her feet. Underneath she wore simple lace underwear that suddenly felt too revealing. Otis's eyes darkened with approval, roaming over her full breasts, the curve of her hips, the smooth olive skin.

"Good girl," he said, the words rough and mocking. "Now the rest."

She hesitated. He waited, arms crossed. With a shaky breath she unhooked her bra and slid her panties down. Naked, she stood before him, arms instinctively covering herself. The cool air raised goosebumps on her skin.

Otis circled her once, slow and predatory. His hand trailed down her spine, making her shiver. "Beautiful. Wasted on a coward like Mateo." He stopped in front of her and tipped her chin up with one finger. "On your knees."

Violet's legs felt weak, but she obeyed, sinking to the carpet. The position made her feel smaller, more vulnerable. Otis unbuckled his belt, the sound loud in the quiet room. He freed himself, already hard, and guided her head forward with a firm hand in her hair.

"Open," he commanded.

She parted her lips reluctantly. The taste of him filled her mouth as he pushed in, not gentle, setting a rhythm that left no doubt who controlled everything. Violet's eyes watered. She focused on breathing, on surviving the moment, even as unwanted heat stirred low in her belly from the sheer dominance of it.

He pulled back after several minutes, lifting her onto the bed with effortless strength. "Spread for me."

She did, thighs trembling. Otis stripped quickly, his body a map of muscle and old wounds. He climbed over her, pinning her wrists above her head with one hand. His weight pressed her down, solid and inescapable.

"This is ownership," he growled against her ear. "Not love. Not mercy. You take what I give."

He entered her in one thrust, filling her completely. Violet gasped, body arching at the sudden stretch. It hurt at first, then settled into a relentless pace as he moved. Each stroke reminded her of her new reality. She bit her lip to hold back sounds, but a few escaped anyway, mixing reluctance with the first unwilling sparks of sensation.

Otis watched her face the whole time, reading every flicker of emotion. "That's it. Feel it. You're mine now, Violet. Every night like this until I decide otherwise."

She turned her head away, but he caught her jaw and forced her to meet his eyes. The power imbalance was absolute. He took his time, drawing it out, making sure she understood. When he finally finished, he stayed inside her for long moments, breathing hard, before rolling off.

Violet lay there, staring at the ceiling, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes. Her body ached. Her mind reeled. Otis pulled her against his chest anyway, one arm draped possessively over her waist.

"Sleep," he said. "Tomorrow the real lessons begin."

She didn't answer. In the dark, she could still see Mateo's body falling. But beneath the terror, something small and sharp began to stir. Survival. And with it, the first flicker of something else she didn't yet have a name for.
