Reading of the Will
The gravel driveway wound through a tunnel of ancient oaks before opening onto the estate. Paige Ellison killed the engine of her rental car and sat for a long moment, staring at the house her grandmother had left her.
Crowe's Rest rose from the mountain foothills like a sleeping beast. Gray stone walls climbed three stories, their surface laced with ivy that had gone wild in the decades since anyone had properly tended the place. The roof sagged in places. Windows stared out like dark eyes, some boarded, some broken. But even in neglect, the house commanded respect. It had been built to last centuries, and it had.
Paige pressed her palm to the cold glass of the windshield. She had never met Eleanor Crowe. Her father had left this place before she was born, carrying nothing but bitter stories about the woman who had disowned him for marrying outside the pack. Whatever that meant. Paige had always assumed it was just family drama dressed up in old-fashioned language.
Now that woman was dead, and Paige was the sole heir.
She grabbed her leather satchel from the passenger seat and stepped out. The mountain air hit her first. It was thin and cold and carried a scent she couldn't quite place. Pine resin. Damp earth. Something else beneath it, something that made her think of animals and fur and the deep dark of the forest at night.
She shook off the feeling and walked toward the front door.
The lawyer was already inside. She found him in what had once been a grand foyer, now covered in dust cloths and the musty smell of abandonment. He was a thin man in a gray suit, his name Gerald Holcomb, and he held a folder of papers like a shield.
"Miss Ellison." He extended a hand. "Thank you for coming."
"I wasn't aware I had a choice." Paige shook his hand briefly. "The estate was tied up in probate for six months. I thought it was a mistake at first."
"No mistake." Holcomb gestured to a side room. "Please. We have much to discuss."
The study was the only room in the house that looked lived in. A fire crackled in the stone hearth. A massive oak desk dominated the center of the space, its surface covered in legal documents and old leather-bound books. Paige took the chair across from the desk and set her satchel on her lap.
"Let me start with the basics," Holcomb said, settling into the chair behind the desk. "Eleanor Crowe was the last direct descendant of the Crowe bloodline. The property has been held by a family trust for over two hundred years. Upon her death, the trust passes to you as her only surviving blood relative."
"I'm aware of the general terms." Paige pulled out her own copies of the documents. "I've had my own lawyer review the transfer. It seems straightforward."
"It is. And it isn't."
Paige frowned. "What does that mean?"
Holcomb hesitated. He looked at the door, then back at her. "There are conditions attached to this inheritance that go beyond standard property law. Conditions that predate the trust itself."
"What conditions?"
Before he could answer, the front door opened.
Paige felt it before she heard it. A shift in the air pressure. A change in the quality of the light. The fire in the hearth flickered as if something had disturbed the draft. And then she heard footsteps. Heavy. Deliberate. The sound of boots on old wood.
Holcomb went pale.
A man filled the doorway.
Paige had seen a lot of men. She had dated a few. She had negotiated with developers and contractors and city officials. She had never seen a man who moved the way this one did. He was tall, broad-shouldered, built like someone had carved him from the mountain itself. Dark hair fell across a face that was all sharp angles and hard lines. His eyes were silver. Not gray. Silver. They caught the firelight and held it.
He looked at her, and the world went quiet.
"Miss Ellison." His voice was low, rough, the kind of voice that didn't need to be loud to be heard. "I'm Silas Crowe."
Paige stood. She didn't remember deciding to stand. Her body just did it. "I wasn't aware there were other Crowe relatives."
"I'm not a relative." He stepped into the room, and the space seemed to shrink around him. "I'm the Alpha of the Frostfang Pack. This estate is the ancestral seat of my bloodline. Your grandmother was the last of the bloodline. Now you are."
Paige's mind raced. Pack. Alpha. The words her father had used, the old stories she had dismissed as family mythology. "I don't understand."
"You will." Silas turned to Holcomb. "Leave us."
The lawyer practically scrambled out of his chair. "I'll be in the foyer if you need me, Miss Ellison."
He was gone before Paige could protest.
She turned to face Silas Crowe. Up close, he was even more imposing. She had to tilt her head back to meet his eyes. His scent hit her then. Cedar and cold stone and something animal, something that made her pulse quicken in ways she didn't want to examine.
"I have legal ownership of this property," she said, keeping her voice steady. "I have the papers to prove it."
"Those papers are valid under human law." Silas moved around the desk, his fingers trailing across its surface. "But this land was claimed by pack law long before humans drew their boundaries. The trust was created to hold the estate until the bloodline could be restored. You are the bloodline."
"I'm an architectural historian from Boston. I don't know anything about packs or bloodlines or whatever this is."
"You don't need to know." He stopped in front of her. "You only need to accept."
"Accept what?"
Silas reached into his coat and pulled out a document. It was old, the paper yellowed and cracked, the ink faded to brown. He laid it on the desk between them.
"This is the original claim. Signed by your ancestor Eleanor Crowe and the first Alpha of the Frostfang Pack. It states that the estate will pass through the bloodline, and that any heir who takes possession must submit to the pack's rites or forfeit the property to the pack."
Paige stared at the document. The handwriting was elegant, the language formal and archaic. She could read most of it. The word breeding appeared twice.
"You can't be serious."
"I'm always serious."
"This is the twenty-first century. You can't enforce some ancient contract based on superstition and outdated customs."
Silas stepped closer. His body heat radiated against her skin. His scent filled her lungs. "The pack doesn't recognize your century. We don't recognize your laws. We recognize blood and bone and the claim that binds them."
Paige's heart hammered against her ribs. Fear. That was fear. It had to be fear. But there was something else beneath it, something that made her knees feel weak and her skin feel too tight.
"I won't sign anything under duress."
"You already signed." Silas picked up the transfer papers Holcomb had left on the desk. "Your signature is here. The estate is yours. And with it comes the obligation."
"I can renounce the inheritance."
"You can." His silver eyes locked onto hers. "But if you do, the estate reverts to the pack. Every structure, every acre, every tree. You walk away with nothing. Your grandmother's legacy becomes ours."
Paige thought of the house. The land. The history that had brought her here. She thought of her father, who had died bitter and broken, never able to return to the place that had shaped him. She thought of the years of legal battles, the fees, the paperwork, the hope that this inheritance might finally give her something solid to hold onto.
She couldn't walk away.
"What do you want from me?"
"Submission." Silas's voice dropped lower. "To the pack's rites. To the breeding claim that binds the bloodline to this land. You'll be marked. You'll be claimed. You'll carry the pack's legacy in your body."
"You're insane."
"I'm patient." He reached out and took her wrist. His fingers were warm, his grip gentle but unbreakable. "You'll learn what you are. What you were always meant to be."
Paige tried to pull away. She couldn't. His hand held her steady, his thumb pressing against the pulse point where her blood beat wild and fast.
"Let me go."
"Not yet."
He turned her hand over, exposing the pale skin of her inner wrist. Then he lowered his head.
His lips brushed her skin. Warm. Soft. Paige stopped breathing.
Then he bit her.
The pain was sharp and bright, a clean puncture that sank through her skin and into something deeper. She gasped. Her body arced toward him instead of away, her spine curving, her breasts pressing against the hard plane of his chest before she could stop herself. Heat flooded through her, starting at the wound and spreading outward until her whole arm felt like it was on fire. Then the fire moved. It raced through her veins, down her arm and across her collarbone, pooling in her belly, dropping lower still until she felt it between her thighs. A wet, aching heat that had no business being there, that she couldn't control, that bloomed through her like something breaking open.
His scent poured into her. Cedar and cold stone and something darker, something that smelled like night and hunger and the deep places where wolves ran free. It filled her lungs. It filled her head. It filled her body until she couldn't tell where her scent ended and his began.
She felt him. Not just his mouth on her skin. She felt him. His presence. His strength. His will pressing against hers like a wall she couldn't climb. And beneath it, she felt something else. Desire. Raw and animal and barely contained. It radiated from him in waves, crashing against her skin, seeping into her pores. He wanted her. The knowledge hit her like a physical blow, and her body responded before her mind could catch up. Her nipples tightened against her bra. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. The ache between her legs deepened into something throbbing and insistent.
His tongue swept across the wound. Slow. Deliberate. Tasting her blood. A low sound rumbled in his chest, not quite a growl, something more primal than that. Possessive. Satisfied. The vibration traveled through his lips and into her skin, through her skin and into her blood, through her blood and into her bones.
Her free hand came up. She meant to push him away. Instead, her fingers tangled in the thick dark hair at the back of his skull, holding him against her wrist. Her hips shifted. Her thighs pressed together, seeking friction, seeking relief from the ache he had woken in her. She bit her own lip to keep from making a sound.
When he pulled back, there was blood on his lips. Her blood. His tongue swept across his lower lip, catching the last of it, and his silver eyes held hers with an intensity that made her stomach drop.
"You're marked," he said. "The pack will scent you now. They'll know you're claimed."
Paige looked at her wrist. Two small punctures, already beginning to bruise. A mark that would scar.
"You had no right."
"I had every right." Silas released her. "The bloodline is mine to claim. The estate is mine to protect. You're mine to keep."
"I'm not yours."
"You will be." He stepped back, giving her space. "The rite has begun. You have three days to accept the full claim. At the end of those three days, you'll submit willingly, or the estate will be forfeit. Those are the terms of the bloodline contract."
Paige pressed her hand over the bite mark. It throbbed in time with her heartbeat. His scent clung to her skin. The ache between her legs hadn't faded. If anything, it had grown, settling into a slow, persistent pulse that matched the throb in her wrist.
"Three days," she whispered.
"Three days." Silas turned toward the door. "I'll return tomorrow to begin your instruction. I suggest you use tonight to accept what you can't change."
He left.
The fire crackled. The house settled around her, old bones creaking and sighing. Paige sank into the chair and stared at the documents on the desk. Her signature was there, clear and legal. The estate was hers.
And so was the claim.
She touched the bite mark again. It burned. It ached. And beneath the pain, something else stirred. Something that had nothing to do with lawyers or contracts or the world she had known.
Something that felt like hunger.
She didn't sleep that night. She sat in the study and watched the fire burn down to embers, and she tried to convince herself that she could still walk away.
But every time she closed her eyes, she saw silver.
And every time she breathed, she smelled cedar.

But every time she closed her eyes, she saw silver.
And every time she breathed, she smelled cedar.
Inspection and Pressure
The bite mark throbbed when Paige woke.
She pressed her fingers to the bandage at her neck before she was fully conscious, hissing at the tenderness beneath. The skin around the wound felt hot, almost feverish, and when she pulled her fingers away, the tips were faintly slick with something that wasn't blood.
She stared at the residue on her fingertips. Clear. Slightly viscous. It didn't look like any discharge she'd ever seen from a wound.
"Doesn't matter," she muttered, wiping her hand on her sheets. "It's healing."
Her body disagreed. The mark pulsed in time with her heartbeat, a low insistent drum that seemed to radiate outward through her shoulders, her chest, lower. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and planted her feet on the cold hardwood, forcing herself to stand. The room tilted slightly. She gripped the nightstand until the vertigo passed.
She needed coffee. She needed a shower. She needed to call her attorney and figure out what legal options existed for contesting a will that included a biological claim she'd never agreed to.
She didn't need to think about the way Silas's teeth had felt sinking into her skin. The pressure before the pain. The way her knees had buckled, not from agony but from something else, something she refused to name.
The shower helped. Hot water sluiced over the mark, and she kept her back to the spray, letting it run down her spine while she catalogued her assets. The house was paid off. The land was hers. The will was clear about that. Silas had inherited something else, something the attorney had called "biological precedence," which sounded like medieval nonsense dressed up in modern legal language.
She dried off, dressed in jeans and a flannel shirt buttoned to the collar, and pulled her hair into a tight ponytail. Professional. Controlled. The woman who'd built this business from nothing wasn't going to be rattled by some Alpha with delusions of authority.
The mark throbbed again. She ignored it.
He was already outside.
She saw him through the kitchen window, standing near the eastern fence line with his back to the house. He'd changed clothes since yesterday, wearing a dark henley pushed up to his elbows and work pants that looked lived-in. His sleeves exposed his forearms, and she watched the muscles shift as he tested a fence post, rocking it back and forth to check the stability.
He was inspecting her property.
Anger moved through her, sharp and clean, and she latched onto it with both hands. Anger she could work with. Anger was useful.
She shoved her feet into boots and stepped onto the back porch. The morning air hit her face, cool and damp, and she breathed it in, letting it clear the fog from her head. The ranch spread out before her, forty acres of pasture and woodland that had been in her family for three generations. Hers. Whatever the will said about Silas's claim, the land was hers.
He didn't turn when she approached. He knew she was there. She could tell from the way his shoulders settled, the slight adjustment of his stance. He'd heard her boots on the gravel path, maybe scented her on the breeze, and he'd chosen not to acknowledge her yet.
It was a power play. She recognized it because she'd made the same move herself in business meetings, letting clients wait while she reviewed documents, forcing them to sit with their uncertainty while she controlled the pace.
"You're on my property."
He turned then, slow and deliberate, and the morning light caught his face. She hadn't let herself look at him properly yesterday, too furious to pay attention. Now she noticed the strong line of his jaw, the slight hook in his nose, the way his dark hair curled at the nape where it met his collar. He wasn't handsome in a conventional sense. His features were too heavy for that, too angular. But they added up to something compelling, a face built for authority rather than beauty.
"Morning," he said. His voice was deeper than she remembered, rougher, like he'd been awake for hours. "I wanted to check the fence lines before the meeting."
"What meeting?"
"The one we're about to have." He gestured toward the house. "Unless you'd prefer to discuss terms in the pasture."
"We don't have terms to discuss. You're not inheriting anything that belongs to me."
He studied her for a long moment. His eyes moved from her face to her throat, where the bandage peeked above her collar, and something shifted in his expression. Not quite a smile, but close. Satisfaction, maybe. Recognition.
"The will is clear," he said. "You keep the land and the house. I keep the biological claim. That means I stay on the property until the claim is resolved."
"Resolved how?"
"You know how."
She did know. She'd read the relevant sections of the Inheritance Act three times last night, sitting at her kitchen table with her laptop open and a glass of whiskey she didn't drink. Biological precedence meant that Silas had the legal right to remain on the property and to pursue the claim, which could only be resolved in one of two ways: formal rejection by the Omega in question, or acceptance and consummation.
The problem was that formal rejection required a clear-headed evaluation by a court-appointed mediator, and the bite mark on her neck complicated that process. A claiming bite, even an incomplete one, created a biological connection that could cloud judgment. The law recognized this. It was why claiming bites were typically reserved for willing participants.
"I'm rejecting the claim," she said. "Right now. On the record."
"You can say the words." He took a step toward her, not threatening but not casual either, just a reduction of distance. "But your body's already started the process. You know that."
She did know. The mark throbbed, and beneath it, she felt something else, a warmth that had nothing to do with the morning sun. It had been there since she woke, a low steady heat that pulsed in time with her heartbeat, and she'd been ignoring it with the same determination she applied to everything else.
"I'm not some feral Omega who can't control herself. I run a business. I manage employees. I don't lose my head over a bite."
"I didn't say you were feral." Another step. He was close enough now that she could smell him, and the scent hit her like a wall. Woodsmoke and leather and something underneath, something musky and raw that made her stomach clench. "I said your body's started the process. That's biology, not weakness."
"It feels like weakness from where I'm standing."
His mouth twitched. "Yeah. I imagine it does."
She should step back. Every instinct told her to maintain distance, to keep the conversation professional, to treat this like the legal negotiation it was. But her feet stayed planted. The scent was thicker up close, and she found herself breathing deeper without meaning to, her lungs filling with it, her body processing it in ways she didn't fully understand.
The warmth spread. It moved from her neck down through her chest, pooling low in her belly, and she felt her skin flush beneath her clothes. Not arousal, she told herself. Just a reaction. Just biology responding to a trigger. It didn't mean anything.
"I want to negotiate," she said, and her voice came out steadier than she expected. "There has to be a way to resolve this without going through the full process. A buyout, maybe. Or a formal mediation that doesn't require your presence on the property."
"You think you can buy your way out of a biological claim?"
"I think money solves most problems."
He tilted his head, considering. The movement exposed the line of his throat, and she watched the pulse there, steady and slow, and felt an absurd urge to press her mouth to it. She looked away, fixing her eyes on the fence post he'd been testing.
"That post needs replacing," she said. "The frost heaved it last winter."
"I noticed." He didn't comment on her abrupt change of subject. "I can fix it today, if you want. I brought tools."
"You brought tools."
"I came prepared to stay."
The words landed like a weight on her chest. He wasn't leaving. He'd said as much yesterday, but hearing it again, seeing the evidence in his clothes and his tools and his calm certainty, made it real in a way it hadn't been before.
"I'll have my attorney file for a restraining order," she said.
"He'll tell you it won't hold. The will gives me access."
"The will gives you access to the claim, not to my property."
"The property's part of the claim. You know that. Your attorney knows that. Any judge in the state will know that." He paused, and his voice softened, not gentle but less hard. "I'm not trying to take anything from you, Paige. I'm trying to honor the terms your grandfather set."
"My grandfather had no right to include me in those terms."
"Maybe not. But he did."
They stood in silence for a moment, and she became acutely aware of how close he was. Not touching, but close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body, close enough that his scent filled every breath she took. The warmth in her belly pulsed, and she felt something shift inside her, a loosening she didn't initiate.
Her thighs pressed together. The movement was involuntary, a response she couldn't control, and she felt moisture gather between her legs, slick and sudden. Her face burned with embarrassment.
He noticed. Of course he noticed. His nostrils flared slightly, and his eyes dropped to her throat again, to the bandage and the mark beneath it. When he looked back at her face, his expression had changed. Softer. More intent.
"You should go inside," he said.
"I'm not going inside because you told me to."
"I'm not telling you to do anything. I'm suggesting that you'll be more comfortable in private while your body adjusts."
"My body isn't adjusting to anything."
"Paige."
Just her name. That was all. But the way he said it, low and measured, with a resonance that seemed to bypass her ears and go straight to her core, made her knees weak. She locked them, furious at herself, furious at him, furious at the whole situation.
"Don't use that voice with me."
"What voice?"
"You know what voice. The Alpha voice. The one that's supposed to make me compliant."
He raised an eyebrow. "Is it working?"
She wanted to say no. She wanted to say it with conviction and disgust and the full force of her independence. But her throat was tight, and the warmth had spread to her chest, and she could feel her own pulse in the mark at her neck, and the word wouldn't come.
"No," she managed, finally. But it sounded weak even to her own ears.
He didn't push. He stepped back, breaking the spell, and the sudden distance felt like cold water. She gasped, not dramatically but enough that he heard it, and his jaw tightened.
"I'll be in the guest cabin," he said. "Your grandfather built it for exactly this situation. I'll stay there while we sort out the legal details."
"The guest cabin hasn't been used in years."
"I cleaned it out yesterday. It's functional." He turned and started walking toward the eastern tree line, where a small cabin sat nestled among the pines. He paused after a few steps and looked back. "Get some rest, Paige. The first few days are the hardest."
She watched him go, her body trembling with something she refused to identify. The mark pulsed. The warmth throbbed. She pressed her thighs together again and felt the slickness that had gathered there, undeniable evidence of her body's response.
"This doesn't mean anything," she said to his retreating back. "I'm still fighting this."
He didn't answer. He just kept walking, and she stood in the morning sun with her pride and her confusion and the wet heat between her legs, and she hated him for the calm certainty in his stride.
She went inside. Not because he'd suggested it, but because her knees were shaking, and she needed to sit down before she fell down.
The kitchen was cool and quiet. She poured coffee she didn't want and sat at the table where she'd spent last night reading the Inheritance Act. The laptop was still open, the screen dark, and she reached for it automatically, pulling up the relevant sections.
Formal rejection required three sessions with a court-appointed mediator, spaced one week apart. During those sessions, the Omega in question would be evaluated for clarity of mind and freedom from biological influence. If the mediator determined that the claim had compromised the Omega's judgment, the rejection would be delayed until the biological connection had faded.
The biological connection faded in one of two ways: separation, which could take months and required the Alpha to leave the property, or consummation, which resolved the claim immediately.
Separation wasn't an option. The will gave Silas the right to stay.
Consummation wasn't an option. She'd rather die.
She closed the laptop and pressed her palms to her eyes. The mark throbbed. The warmth pulsed. She could still smell him on her clothes, woodsmoke and leather, and she breathed it in despite herself, her lungs filling with his scent like it was something she needed.
"This doesn't mean anything," she said again, to the empty kitchen. But the words sounded thinner this time, and her body didn't believe them at all.
Outside, she heard the sound of hammering. He was fixing the fence post.
She sat in the kitchen and listened, and the warmth spread, and the mark pulsed, and she hated that some small part of her was grateful he was there.
First Night Claim
The master suite felt more like a cage than a sanctuary. Paige paced the length of the Persian rug, her fingers tracing the raised edges of the bite mark on her shoulder. It was warm, almost pulsing, a constant reminder of the impossible situation she was trapped in. The estate was hers. Legally hers. But Silas Crowe had made it abundantly clear that human law meant nothing here. The pack's claim was older, deeper, woven into the very stones of the house.
She heard him before she saw him. Heavy footsteps in the hallway. The creak of the floorboards outside the door. Her heart hammered against her ribs as the door swung open, and he filled the frame like a shadow made flesh.
"You're still dressed," he said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated in her chest.
"I'm not going to make this easy for you," she snapped, spinning to face him. "This is my house. My inheritance. You can't just walk in and expect me to..."
"I already have." He stepped into the room, and the space seemed to shrink around him. "The claim is made. The estate recognizes it. The only question, Paige, is whether you will honor the terms or force me to take the land by right of conquest."
"That's barbaric," she hissed.
"That's our law," he replied, his silver eyes pinning her in place. "And you agreed to it when you signed the papers."
She wanted to argue, but the words died in her throat. He was right. She had signed. She had thought it was a formality, a legal technicality. She hadn't understood the weight of what she was agreeing to. "There's got to be another way," she said, her voice quieter now. "We can negotiate. I can pay you. Name your price."
"There's no other way." He crossed the room in three long strides, stopping inches from her. His scent washed over her, cedar and snow and wild earth, filling her lungs until she felt drunk on it. "The bloodline requires renewal. The estate requires a bond. You are the heir, and I am the alpha. This is how it must be."
Her hands trembled at her sides. "And if I refuse?"
"Then the estate reverts to the pack. You lose everything. Your grandmother's legacy, your inheritance, any claim to a future here." He reached out, his fingers brushing the curve of her jaw. She flinched but didn't pull away. "I don't want to take it from you, Paige. I want to give it to you. But you have to accept the terms."
"The terms," she repeated, her voice bitter. "Submit to you. Let you breed me like some kind of... of animal."
"Like a mate," he corrected, his thumb tracing her lower lip. "Like the woman who will stand beside me and lead this pack."
She wanted to laugh, to scream, to shove him backward and slam the door and pretend none of this was real. But her body was already betraying her. Her skin was tingling where he touched her. Her nipples had hardened beneath her blouse. And between her thighs, a warm, insistent ache was building.
"I won't," she whispered, but it came out weak, a plea instead of a declaration.
"You will." He stepped closer, and she backed up until her knees hit the edge of the bed. "Not because I force you. But because your body already knows what your mind is too stubborn to accept. You belong here, Paige. With me. With the pack."
"That's not true," she said, but even she didn't believe it.
He didn't argue. He simply reached out and unbuttoned her blouse, his fingers moving with deliberate slowness. She grabbed his wrists, trying to stop him, but he didn't pause. "Let me," he said, his voice soft but commanding. "Let me show you what this can be."
Every instinct told her to fight. To scream. To claw at him and run. But the fight was draining out of her, replaced by a strange, heavy anticipation. Her hands fell away from his wrists, and she stood there, trembling, as he pushed the blouse off her shoulders and let it fall to the floor.
His eyes roamed over her, taking in the lace of her bra, the curve of her waist, the way her breath came in quick, shallow gasps. "Beautiful," he murmured, and the word sent a shiver down her spine.
He reached behind her and unhooked her bra, sliding it down her arms. The cool air hit her skin, and she crossed her arms over her chest, suddenly self-conscious. He gently pulled her arms away, exposing her to his gaze. "Don't hide from me," he said. "Not tonight."
His hands found her breasts, cupping them, his thumbs brushing over her nipples. She gasped, her head falling back as a wave of sensation washed through her. He squeezed gently, then harder, rolling the stiffened peaks between his fingers until she felt her knees go weak.
"Lie down," he commanded.
Her legs threatened to buckle beneath her. But her body was already moving, sinking onto the cool silk sheets, her eyes fixed on his as he undressed. He was magnificent. Broad-shouldered and powerful, his skin stretched taut over muscle. When he freed his cock, she felt a jolt of fear and desire twist in her gut. It was thick, heavy, already hard, the head flushed dark with blood.
He climbed onto the bed, his body covering hers, the weight of him pressing her into the mattress. "This will be intense," he warned, his lips brushing her ear. "Your body will fight it. Don't. Let it take you."
She wanted to say something sharp, something defiant. But when his mouth found her neck, her words dissolved into a moan. He kissed and nipped at the sensitive skin, working his way down to the bite mark on her shoulder. When his tongue traced the raised edges, she arched beneath him, a cry escaping her lips.
"You feel that?" he murmured against her skin. "The bond recognizing its mate. Your body knows what it needs."
She shook her head, but the denial felt hollow. She did feel it. A pull, a hunger, a desperate ache that demanded to be filled.
His mouth continued its descent, lips trailing down her collarbone to the swell of her breasts. He took one nipple into his mouth, his tongue swirling around the sensitive bud before sucking hard. She cried out, her fingers tangling in his dark hair, pulling him closer. He lavished attention on each breast in turn, sucking and nibbling until she was squirming beneath him, her hips lifting instinctively, seeking friction that wasn't there yet.
"Please," she breathed, not even certain what she was asking for.
"Patience," he growled, his mouth moving lower, pressing open-mouthed kisses down her stomach. His hands found the waistband of her trousers, and he dragged them down her hips along with her underwear, leaving her bare and exposed beneath him. The cool air kissed her heated skin, and she shivered.
He settled between her thighs, his broad shoulders pushing her legs apart. She felt the heat of his breath against her most intimate flesh, and her cheeks burned with embarrassment and arousal. "So wet already," he murmured, his fingers sliding through her slick folds. "Your body is begging for me."
"That's just... biology," she gasped, hating the way her hips pushed into his hand.
"It's instinct," he corrected. He leaned down and ran his tongue along her slit, and she nearly came off the bed. A strangled cry tore from her throat as he did it again, slower this time, tasting her thoroughly. "It's the bloodline calling to its alpha. You can't fight it, Paige. You can only surrender."
He pushed a finger inside her as his mouth found her clit, sucking the swollen bud between his lips. She cried out, her nails digging into the sheets. He worked her with devastating skill, his tongue circling and flicking while his finger curled inside her, stroking that spot that made her vision blur. He added a second finger, stretching her, preparing her for what was to come. She writhed beneath him, caught between pleasure and shame. "Please," she heard herself say again, and she wasn't sure if she was begging him to stop or to never stop.
He withdrew his fingers and his mouth, positioning himself at her entrance. She felt the head of his cock pressing against her, hot and insistent, parting her slick folds. "Look at me," he commanded.
She met his silver eyes, and in them she saw something that made her breath catch. Not just hunger or dominance, but a fierce, possessive tenderness that she didn't understand.
"This is the moment you become mine," he said. "The moment you accept your place in the pack. In my life."
He pushed inside her, slow and relentless. She gasped, her body stretching to accommodate him. He was thick, filling her completely, and she felt a pressure that bordered on pain. But beneath the pressure, there was pleasure. A deep, aching pleasure that spread through her like warmth.
He thrust deeper, inch by inch, giving her body time to adjust. She could feel every ridge, every vein of him as her walls clenched around him, drawing him in. When he was fully seated, he paused, his forehead pressed to hers, both of them breathing hard.
"You feel that?" he groaned. "You were made for me. Made to take me."
He began to move, pulling back until only the tip remained inside before thrusting deep again. She moaned, her nails raking down his back. He set a steady rhythm, each thrust hitting that spot deep inside her that made stars burst behind her eyelids.
Then she felt the base of his cock begin to swell. "No," she gasped, realizing what was happening. "No, wait, you can't..."
"It's done," he groaned, thrusting harder, seating himself fully as the knot locked them together.
She cried out, a sound caught between a sob and a moan. She was trapped. Completely, utterly trapped. She could feel every inch of him, every pulse, every beat of his heart against her. The fullness was unbearable, a pressure that pushed against her cervix, her womb. The knot stretched her wider than she thought possible, locking him deep inside.
"Breathe," he commanded, his forehead pressed to hers. "Just breathe."
She tried, but the air came in ragged gasps. She could feel the knot pulsing inside her, holding them together, making escape impossible. "I can't move," she whispered, panic flickering in her chest.
"You don't have to," he said. "Just feel."
He began to move, small, grinding thrusts that sent waves of sensation through her. The knot tugged at her inner walls, stimulating her in ways she had never experienced. Each grind pressed against her G-spot, sending jolts of electricity through her nerve endings. Her hands clawed at his back, her legs wrapping around his waist, pulling him deeper.
"That's it," he growled. "Take it. Take all of it."
His hand found her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he ground into her. She felt the pressure building, coiling in her belly like a spring. "I can't," she sobbed. "I can't, it's too much."
"You can. Let go, Paige. Stop fighting. Feel it."
The orgasm, when it came, ripped through her. It was a tidal wave, drowning her pride, her anger, her fear. She shattered against him, her body clenching around the knot, drawing a deep, possessive groan from his chest. Her walls spasmed around him, milking him, and she felt him swell even larger before he spilled his seed, hot and thick, painting her insides as the knot pulsed.
She cried out, her vision going white, her body convulsing in wave after wave of pleasure. The climax seemed to go on forever, each pulse of the knot triggering another peak. She was aware of him holding her, his arms wrapped around her, his voice murmuring words she couldn't quite hear. The knot held them together, locking them in a tight, unyielding embrace.
Time lost meaning. Minutes or hours passed. The knot slowly deflated, and he slipped out of her, but he didn't move away. He pulled her against his chest, his hand stroking her hair.
She lay there, dazed, her body still trembling. The fight was gone. In its place was a hollow, exhausted peace. She stared at the ceiling, tears she hadn't realized she'd shed sliding down her temples.
"What happens now?" she asked, her voice hoarse.
"Now you rest," he said, his lips brushing her forehead. "Tomorrow, the pack will arrive. They will meet their alpha's mate."
She closed her eyes. The words should have terrified her. They did. But beneath the terror, a strange, reluctant acceptance was taking root. She was claimed. She was his. And deep down, in the quiet space where the knot had held her, she didn't want to be free.
"I don't know if I can do this," she whispered.
"You already have," he replied, his arms tightening around her. "And you will continue to. One day at a time. One night at a time."
She didn't answer. She just lay there, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat against her cheek, and let the exhaustion pull her under. The anger was still there, buried beneath layers of pleasure and confusion. But it was quieter now. Muted. And for the first time since she had arrived at the estate, she slept without dreaming of escape.
Pack Arrival
The morning light cut through the curtains in sharp golden lines, and Paige woke with Silas's scent still heavy in her lungs. She lay still for a long moment, cataloging the changes that had settled into her body overnight. The ache between her thighs had faded to a warm thrum that pulsed in time with her heartbeat, and every time she shifted beneath the sheets, the fabric dragged against her sensitized skin and sent sparks of sensation racing up her spine.
The marks on her neck pulsed with a low, steady heat that felt almost like a second heartbeat. She touched the bite mark with careful fingers, tracing the indentations where his teeth had broken skin. The flesh was tender but no longer raw, and when she pressed down, she felt something stir deep in her chest. Not pain. Recognition.
The pressure against the wound sent a jolt of heat straight to her core, and she gasped softly as her body responded with an intensity that shocked her. Her nipples tightened against the sheets, and she felt a slick warmth gather between her legs. The bite mark was a direct line to her arousal, a connection she didn't fully understand but couldn't deny.
She pressed harder, and her hips shifted involuntarily, seeking friction that wasn't there. A soft moan escaped her lips before she could catch it. Her body was no longer entirely her own.
The bedroom door opened before she could dwell on it. Silas stood in the frame, already dressed in dark trousers and a fitted shirt that stretched across his shoulders. His silver eyes swept over her, and she saw them darken as he caught her scent. He knew. He could smell her arousal, and the knowledge sent a flush of heat through her cheeks that had nothing to do with embarrassment.
"Pack members are arriving within the hour," he said, his voice rougher than before. "You'll need to dress and prepare."
Paige sat up slowly, pulling the sheet with her to cover her hardened nipples. "Prepare for what exactly?"
"Introduction. They need to see you. Know you."
"And if I'm not ready for that?"
Silas crossed to the wardrobe and pulled out a simple dress in deep forest green. The fabric looked soft, and the cut was modest but feminine. He laid it across the foot of the bed with deliberate care, his movements controlled and precise.
"Readiness isn't the question," he said. "You're claimed. That means you have a place in the hierarchy. The sooner you understand that place, the easier this will be."
Paige's jaw tightened. "I'm not a pet you can just show off."
"No. You're my mate." He stepped closer, and his scent washed over her, earthy and dark with an undertone of something musky and purely male. It made her skin prickle with awareness, and she felt her body respond despite her resistance. "That carries more weight than you realize. But you still have to earn their respect. That starts today."
She wanted to argue. Every instinct trained by years of independence screamed at her to push back, to demand explanations and legal protections and time. But there was another voice now, quieter and deeper, that whispered something different. Listen. Trust. Submit.
She shoved the thought down and reached for the dress, acutely aware of how the sheet slid against her bare skin as she moved. Silas didn't step back. He stood close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body, and when she rose from the bed with the dress clutched to her chest, her hardened nipples brushed against his shirt.
The contact was brief but electric. She heard his sharp intake of breath, saw the muscle in his jaw clench. His hand came up and gripped her hip, fingers digging into the soft flesh with a possessive pressure that made her gasp.
"Later," he said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through her. "When we're alone."
The promise in those words sent another pulse of wet heat between her thighs. She nodded, not trusting her voice, and he released her with visible effort.
By the time she had washed and dressed, the first vehicle had arrived. Paige stood at the window of the master suite and watched a sleek black car pull up the long gravel drive. The morning sun caught the dust it kicked up, turning it to gold.
Two figures emerged.
The first was a man in his fifties, lean and scholarly, with silver streaking his dark hair and calm amber eyes that seemed to take in everything at once. He wore a simple dark suit and carried a leather satchel across his chest. Even from this distance, Paige could see the quiet authority in his posture.
The second was younger, broader, built like a soldier. His hair was cropped close to his scalp, and his hazel eyes were steady and watchful. He wore practical clothes, dark and unremarkable, but his presence radiated a kind of grounded power that made Paige's instincts prickle.
Silas appeared at her side. "Owen Calder and Torin Decker. Owen is our archivist. He'll handle the historical documentation and guide you through the rites. Torin handles security and enforcement."
"Enforcement," Paige repeated flatly. "That sounds ominous."
"It's necessary. The estate is vulnerable until the claim is fully sealed. Torin will ensure no outside threats interfere."
She turned to face him. "And what about threats from inside? From your pack?"
Silas's expression didn't change. "You're not a threat. You're pack now. That's not a label. It's a bond."
Paige wanted to argue, but the words died in her throat when she felt his hand settle on the small of her back. The touch was light, almost casual, but it sent a wave of heat through her that pooled low in her belly. His palm was warm through the thin fabric of her dress, and his fingers spread wide, claiming territory. She hated how her body responded to him. Hated how her skin seemed to crave his contact even when her mind rebelled.
"Come," he said. "They're waiting."
The great hall of the estate was cool and shadowed, the morning light filtering through tall windows that had been dark with dust when Paige first arrived. Someone had cleaned them. The floors gleamed, and the air smelled of lemon polish and old wood.
Owen and Torin stood near the massive stone fireplace, and they turned as Silas led Paige down the stairs. Paige felt their gazes on her, assessing and curious, and she straightened her spine to meet them. She was acutely aware of Silas's hand still pressed to her back, guiding her with a possessive touch that marked her as his.
Owen stepped forward first, his amber eyes warm with something that might have been approval. "Paige Ellison. It's an honor to finally meet you." His voice was calm and measured, the voice of someone used to explaining complex things to skeptical audiences. "I've studied your grandmother's records for years. The bloodline connection is unmistakable."
"You studied my grandmother's records?" Paige asked. "Without my knowledge?"
"The estate has been under pack observation for generations," Owen said, unruffled. "We had to ensure the bloodline remained viable. When your grandmother passed, we knew you would inherit. We prepared accordingly."
Paige's hands curled into fists at her sides. "You prepared. While I was completely in the dark about what I was inheriting."
"That's the nature of the trust," Owen said gently. "Secrecy was necessary to protect the claim. But now you're here, and the truth is unfolding. I'm here to help you understand it."
Torin said nothing. He simply stood with his arms crossed, his hazel eyes fixed on Paige with an intensity that made her skin prickle. He was younger than Silas, maybe mid-thirties, but there was something ancient in his stillness. Something that reminded her of a predator waiting. When his gaze dropped briefly to the bite mark on her neck, his nostrils flared, and she realized he could smell her too. Could sense the arousal that still simmered beneath her skin.
Silas gestured to the long dining table that had been set with simple fare. Bread, cheese, cold meat, a pitcher of water. "Sit. We have much to discuss."
Paige took a seat at the table, and the three men settled around her. Silas sat at the head, with Owen to his right and Torin to his left. Paige was across from Owen, the table stretching between them like a negotiation table.
Owen opened his satchel and pulled out a leather bound journal, its pages yellowed with age. "I've documented the full history of the Frostfang Pack's claim on this estate. The original deed dates back to 1783, when your ancestor, Margaret Ellison, married the pack alpha at the time, Elias Crowe. The property was held jointly under pack law and human law, but when the alpha line faltered in the early twentieth century, the estate was placed in a trust to preserve it for the bloodline."
"I've seen the trust documents," Paige said. "They don't mention any pack or any supernatural claims."
"Of course not. The human legal system couldn't accommodate such truths. The trust was written to appear conventional, but the covenants within it are binding under pack law. And pack law supersedes human law on pack territory."
Paige leaned forward. "That's not how property law works."
"Here, it is." Owen's voice remained calm, but there was steel beneath it. "The land itself holds the covenant. It's not a piece of paper. It's the soil and trees, the very stones of this house. The claim is written into the fabric of the estate. You can't deed that away in a human courthouse."
Silas spoke without looking up from the water glass he was turning in his hands. "Owen will prepare the formal documentation for the transfer of the claim. It needs to be witnessed and sealed by the pack."
"And what does that involve?" Paige asked.
"A ceremony," Owen said. "Simple. You'll stand before the pack and acknowledge Silas as your alpha mate. The pack will witness and accept the bond. Then the claim is sealed."
Paige's heart pounded. "And if I don't acknowledge it?"
Silas set the glass down with a soft click. "Then the claim remains contested. The estate stays vulnerable. And the pack can't fully protect it."
"Protect it from what?"
Owen and Torin exchanged a glance. Torin spoke for the first time, his voice low and rough. "There are other packs. Other claimants. The estate is valuable, not just for its land but for what it represents. A seat of power. If the claim isn't secured, someone else will try to take it."
"And if they do?"
"They'll challenge Silas," Torin said. "And if he falls, the estate falls with him. You'd lose everything."
Paige's throat tightened. She looked at Silas, at the hard lines of his face and the quiet intensity in his silver eyes. He wasn't threatening her. He was stating facts. And somehow, that was worse.
"What do you need from me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"For now," Silas said, "you need to learn the hierarchy. Understand your place. That starts with service."
"Service?"
Owen stood and walked to a sideboard where a tea service had been laid out. He returned with a cup of steaming tea and set it before Silas. Then he stepped back and lowered his head slightly. "The alpha is served first. Then the beta. Then the pack in order of rank."
Paige watched the exchange with a strange tightness in her chest. The gesture was so simple, so mundane, but there was a weight to it that she couldn't deny. Owen, who was clearly older and respected, had just performed an act of submission without hesitation.
"Your turn," Silas said, his eyes on her.
Paige's pulse hammered. "You want me to serve you tea?"
"I want you to learn the ritual. It's not about the tea. It's about acknowledging the hierarchy."
She should refuse. Every logical part of her brain screamed that this was degrading, that she was an educated professional, that she shouldn't be performing subservient acts for anyone. But her body was already moving, rising from her chair and walking to the sideboard with a grace that didn't feel entirely her own. Her hips swayed with each step, and she felt the eyes of all three men on her. The attention sent a thrill through her that she didn't want to examine too closely.
Her hands trembled as she poured the tea. The porcelain was warm, and the scent of chamomile rose in a gentle steam. She carried the cup back to the table and set it before Silas, then stepped back as Owen had done. She kept her eyes lowered, not trusting herself to meet his gaze.
Silas's eyes never left her face. He lifted the cup and took a slow sip, and something in his expression softened. Approval. Not smug or demanding, but quiet and warm.
"Good," he said.
The word sent a thrill through Paige that she couldn't explain. It traveled through her body like a caress, settling in her core with a warmth that had nothing to do with the tea. She wanted to hate it. She wanted to hate that his approval mattered. But standing there, with his scent in her lungs and the weight of his gaze on her, she felt a strange, aching rightness that she couldn't deny. Her thighs pressed together, seeking pressure against the ache that was building between them.
"Again," Silas said.
Paige blinked. "What?"
"Pour for Torin. The beta is served after the alpha."
She swallowed hard and returned to the sideboard. Her hands were steadier this time, but her body was more aware. She could feel Silas watching her, feel the weight of his attention like a physical touch. When she carried the cup to Torin and offered it with both hands, the larger man's fingers brushed hers as he took it.
The contact sent a jolt through her. Not arousal exactly, but recognition. Something that acknowledged her as pack. As belonging.
Torin's hazel eyes held hers for a moment before he lowered his head in acceptance. "Thank you."
Then Torin moved to the sideboard. He poured a second cup and carried it to Paige, offering it with both hands. "For you."
Paige blinked. "I... thank you."
She took the cup, and Torin held her gaze for a moment before stepping back to his place. The gesture was simple, but it carried meaning. He was acknowledging her position. Not as a servant, but as Silas's mate. Someone worthy of respect.
Owen smiled. "You see? Hierarchy isn't about oppression. It's about order. Everyone knows their place, and everyone is cared for."
Paige sipped the tea, letting the warmth settle in her stomach. The tension in her shoulders eased slightly, and she realized she had been holding herself rigid since she woke. But beneath that tension, something else was building. A slow heat that had started when Silas had said "Good" and hadn't stopped growing.
Silas stood. "There's more to show you. The estate has rooms that have been sealed for decades. Rites that need to be performed. But that can wait. For now, I want you to walk the grounds with Torin. Learn the boundaries."
"And you?"
"I have matters to discuss with Owen." He stepped closer, and his hand came up to cup her jaw, tilting her face to meet his gaze. "You're safe. I won't let anyone harm you. But you need to trust me. Can you do that?"
Paige's breath caught. His thumb traced the line of her jaw, then drifted lower, brushing the bite mark on her neck. The touch sent a bolt of electricity through her body, and she gasped, her eyes fluttering closed. Her nipples hardened instantly, pressing against the fabric of her dress, and she felt a fresh wave of wetness soak into her undergarments.
"Silas," she breathed.
His grip tightened on her jaw, and he leaned in close, his lips brushing her ear. "Tonight," he promised, his voice a low growl that made her shiver. "I'll finish what I started."
He released her and turned away, and Paige felt the absence of his touch like a physical loss. Her body throbbed with unfulfilled need, and she wrapped her arms around herself, trying to contain the heat that threatened to consume her. She followed Torin toward the door, acutely aware of every step, every brush of fabric against her sensitized skin.
The grounds were overgrown but beautiful, with wildflowers blooming in patches of sunlight while ancient oaks cast long shadows across the path. Torin walked beside her in silence, his presence steady and grounding.
"How long have you been with the pack?" Paige asked, breaking the quiet.
"Ten years."
"That's a long time."
"It's not long for our kind."
Paige glanced at him. "Our kind?"
Torin's hazel eyes met hers. "You're changing. You can feel it, can't you?"
She stopped walking. The words hit too close to the truth she had been avoiding. The heightened senses. The way her body responded to Silas. The strange pull she felt toward the pack.
"I don't know what I feel," she said honestly.
Torin nodded slowly. "That's normal. The change takes time. But you'll find your place. The pack doesn't reject what belongs to it."
"And if I don't want to belong?"
He was quiet for a long moment. Then he said, "You already do. You just haven't accepted it yet."
Paige looked out at the rolling hills that stretched toward the horizon, the wild meadows swaying in the breeze. This was her inheritance. Her bloodline. Her fate.
And for the first time, she wasn't sure she wanted to fight it.
Her thighs clenched involuntarily, and she felt a warm pulse of arousal that had nothing to do with the morning air. The pack's presence was doing something to her. Silas's claim, still fresh on her neck, combined with Owen's calm authority and Torin's steady strength. They were weaving themselves into her senses, and her body was responding in ways she couldn't control.
The ache between her legs had grown from a whisper to a demand. She could feel her own wetness, could smell her arousal on the breeze and knew that Torin could smell it too. His nostrils flared slightly, but he said nothing, his expression remaining carefully neutral.
She pressed her hand to her stomach and took a slow breath, trying to steady herself. But the motion only drew attention to the hollow ache in her core, the desperate need that Silas had awakened and left unsatisfied.
"Show me the boundaries," she said, her voice rougher than she intended.
Torin's eyes flickered to hers, and she saw something in them. Understanding, maybe. Or recognition of a need he'd seen before.
He nodded and led the way into the trees.
Preparatory Rites
The morning light felt different. Paige lay in the massive bed, her skin prickling with an awareness she could not name. The air smelled of pine and damp earth, underlaid with something musky and alive. She realized with a start that she could hear birds outside, not just their songs but the individual rustle of wings, the tiny scratches of claws gripping bark. Her hearing had sharpened overnight.
She sat up slowly, running her hands over her arms. The skin seemed smoother, tighter, and when she pressed her fingers to her collarbone, she felt a faint warmth radiating from within. Her muscles ached with a strange new tension, as if they were waiting for something. As if they were hungry.
A soft knock came at the door. Owen entered without waiting for a response, her amber eyes calm and assessing. She carried a bundle of cloth in her arms.
"You're awake," Owen said. "Good. Today begins the formal preparation."
Paige pulled the sheet up to her chin. "Preparation for what?"
"For the breeding ceremonies." Owen set the bundle on the foot of the bed and unfolded it, revealing a long white gown made of something that looked like silk but shimmered with an iridescent sheen. "These rites are ancient. They bind you to the pack, not just to Silas. The pack must see you claimed. They must witness the bond."
Paige's stomach tightened. "Witnessed? You mean other people watching?"
"Yes." Owen's voice was matter of fact. "It is how status is reinforced. How the pack knows you are truly his. How they learn to accept you as one of them."
"I don't know if I can do that." Paige's voice cracked. "I don't know if I want to."
Owen's gaze softened. "Your body already knows, Paige. The changes you feel aren't accidental. Your blood is waking up. The estate, the pack, Silas, it's all calling to you. The question is whether you will answer."
Paige looked down at her hands. Her nails seemed longer, harder. She pressed one against her palm and felt a sharp sting. A bead of blood welled up, and she gasped. The wound closed within seconds, leaving only a faint pink line.
"What's happening to me?" she whispered.
"You are becoming," Owen said. "The mark Silas gave you, the knotting, the pack presence, it has awakened what was dormant. The Frostfang bloodline runs through you. You were always meant for this."
Paige shook her head, but the denial felt hollow. She could feel the truth in her bones, in the way her skin craved touch, in the way her nostrils flared at the scent of the pack drifting through the open window. She wanted to fight it. She wanted to run. But her legs felt rooted to the bed, and a deeper part of her whispered: stay.
"I'll prepare you," Owen said. "Come."
The bathing chamber was filled with steam and the scent of herbs. Two women Paige had not met before stood waiting, their hands gentle but firm. They undressed her without ceremony, their fingers trailing over her skin in ways that made her shiver. They poured warm oil over her shoulders, down the curve of her spine, across her breasts and the soft plane of her belly. The oil smelled of lavender and something sharper, something that made her head swim.
Paige closed her eyes and tried to think of legal arguments, of escape routes, of anything but the way their hands moved. But her body betrayed her. Her nipples tightened under their touch. A low heat pooled in her core. She heard herself moan softly, and the women exchanged glances that were almost approving.
Owen stepped closer, her fingers tracing the line of Paige's jaw. "The pack will sense your readiness. Don't be ashamed of it. This is what you were made for."
Paige opened her eyes. "I was made for architectural history. Not for this."
"And yet here you are." Owen's smile was kind but knowing. "History is full of things we didn't expect to become."
They dried her with soft cloths and dressed her in the white gown. It clung to her curves, translucent in the light. She felt exposed and beautiful at once. The gown was not meant to conceal. It was meant to display.
Owen led her through the estate to a large hall Paige had not seen before. The room was dim, lit only by candles set in iron sconces along the walls. Pack members stood in a loose circle, their eyes fixed on her. Torin was there, his expression unreadable. Others she did not know, men and women with sharp eyes and strong builds, their scents filling the air until she felt dizzy with it.
At the center of the room stood a low platform draped in dark velvet. Silas waited beside it, his silver eyes fixed on her. He wore loose black pants, his chest bare, the muscles of his torso rippling in the candlelight. The bite mark on her neck throbbed in response to his presence.
"Come," he said, his voice a low command.
Paige walked toward him, her bare feet silent on the cold stone. The pack parted for her. She felt their gazes like weights on her skin, but she kept her eyes on Silas. She would not show fear. She would not break.
He took her hand and guided her onto the platform. The velvet was soft beneath her knees as she knelt. Silas stood before her, his hand in her hair, tilting her head back to meet his gaze.
"Tonight you're claimed before the pack," he said, his voice carrying through the hall. "This isn't a punishment. It's a privilege. You will be mine in front of them all, and they will know you as their pack woman."
Paige's throat tightened. "And if I say no?"
"You won't." His thumb traced her lower lip. "Because your body already says yes. I can smell it on you. I can feel it in the way you tremble."
She hated that he was right. Her pulse hammered in her ears, but it was not fear alone. It was anticipation. It was need.
Silas lowered himself to his knees before her, his hands finding the hem of her gown. He lifted it slowly, deliberately, revealing her legs inch by inch. The pack watched in silence. Paige felt the air on her skin, felt the weight of their stares, and a flush spread across her chest.
He pulled the gown over her head, and she sat naked before them all. Her hands moved instinctively to cover herself, but Silas caught her wrists.
"No," he said. "Let them see you. Let them know what's mine."
Paige's breath came in short gasps. She felt exposed, vulnerable, but also strangely powerful. The pack's attention was a physical force, and she was at the center of it. Silas's hands moved over her body, cupping her breasts, tracing the curve of her waist, parting her thighs. She let him. She could not stop him. She did not want to.
His palms skimmed up her ribcage, thumbs brushing the underside of her breasts. The touch was feather-light, almost clinical, but it sent sparks racing along her nerve endings. Her skin had become so sensitive since the first claiming. Every brush of his fingers felt magnified, intensified, as if her body was determined to register every point of contact.
"Your body is changing," he murmured against her ear, his breath warm and damp against the shell of it. "I can feel it. Your scent is stronger. Your skin is more sensitive. You're becoming what you were always meant to be."
She wanted to argue, but his fingers found her wetness, and the words died in her throat. He circled her clit slowly, deliberately, his eyes never leaving hers. The pack's presence faded into a blur of candlelight and shadow. There was only him, only his touch, only the growing pressure in her core.
He slipped one finger inside her, then two, curling them against the sensitive spot deep within. She gasped and her hips rocked forward of their own accord. Her inner walls clenched around him, hungry for more. The wet sounds of his fingers moving in and out of her seemed obscenely loud in the quiet hall, and she felt heat bloom across her cheeks and chest.
"Please," she heard herself say, and the word felt like surrender.
"Not yet." He pulled his hand away, and she whimpered at the loss. He stood, unfastening his pants, and she saw him hard and ready for her. The thick length of him jutted from his body, the tip already glistening. "On your hands and knees."
She obeyed, her limbs moving before her mind could object. The velvet was soft beneath her palms. She heard the rustle of the pack shifting, felt their attention intensify. Silas positioned himself behind her, his hands on her hips, his thumbs pressing into the soft flesh there.
"This is how the pack will see you," he said. "Claimed. Marked. Mine."
His hands slid down to her thighs, spreading them wider. She felt the cool air of the hall against her exposed sex, felt how wet she was, how open. His fingers traced along her slit, gathering her moisture, and she shuddered. He brought his fingers to his mouth and tasted her, his eyes closing briefly in pleasure.
"Sweet," he said, his voice rough. "The pack should taste what their alpha has claimed."
He entered her in one smooth thrust, and she cried out. The fullness of him stretched her, filled her completely. The sensation was overwhelming. He held still for a moment, letting her adjust, his hands stroking along her flanks in a soothing rhythm. She could feel every inch of him, the heat of him, the pulse of his cock inside her.
He began to move, slow and deep, each stroke pushing her closer to the edge. She could feel the pack's eyes on her, could hear their breathing, could sense their approval rising like a tide. The wet sounds of their joining filled the hall, obscene and intoxicating. Her breasts swayed with each thrust, and she felt a hand, not Silas's, brush against her nipple. She gasped and looked to the side to see one of the pack women watching her with dark, hungry eyes.
"Look at them," Silas commanded. "Look at your pack."
She raised her head, her vision blurred with tears of pleasure and shame. The pack watched, their expressions hungry and reverent. She was their alpha's woman. She was being claimed before them all.
Silas's pace quickened. His hands gripped her hips harder, pulling her back onto him with each thrust. The force of it drove her forward, and she braced herself against the velvet. She could feel the familiar pressure building, the tension coiling in her belly. His cock hit that spot deep inside her with every stroke, sending jolts of pleasure cascading through her body.
She felt his knot begin to swell, pressing against her entrance. Panic and desire warred in her chest. The knot was larger than before, the base of his cock thickening with each thrust, stretching her further.
"It'll lock," she gasped. "They'll see it lock."
"Yes," he growled. "They'll see everything."
He reached around her, his fingers finding her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he thrust forward. The knot pushed against her entrance, stretching her impossibly wide. She felt the moment it slipped inside, the ring of muscle closing around it, locking him deep within her. She screamed. Not with pain, but with pleasure so intense it bordered on agony. The lock held her, bound her to him, and she felt the heat of his release flooding her in thick, pulsing waves.
Her own orgasm crashed through her, triggered by the knotting, and she convulsed around him. Her inner walls milked his cock, drawing out his release, and she felt it filling her, hot and thick. The pleasure was blinding, all-consuming, and she lost herself in it completely. The pack murmured their approval, a low rumble that vibrated through the stone floor and up through her knees.
Paige collapsed forward, catching herself on her elbows. Silas followed her down, his chest against her back, his breath hot on her neck. He kissed the bite mark, and she shivered, aftershocks rippling through her body. His knot held them together, pulsing with the last of his release, and she could feel every twitch of his cock inside her.
"You did well," he whispered. "They accept you."
She looked out at the pack through half closed eyes. They were no longer strangers. They were hers, and she was theirs. The thought should have terrified her. Instead, it filled her with a strange, warm pride.
Owen stepped forward, her hands clasped before her. "The witnessed claiming is complete. Paige is confirmed as Silas's mate within the pack. The breeding rites may proceed."
The pack dispersed slowly, their gazes lingering. Torin gave her a small nod of respect before turning away. Paige lay on the velvet, still locked to Silas, her body trembling with aftershocks that came in waves. Each pulse of his knot inside her sent another ripple of pleasure through her core, and she felt his release seeping around the seal of their joining, slick on her inner thighs.
"I felt something," she said. "When you knotted me. It was like my whole body woke up."
Silas's hand smoothed her hair. "That's the shift taking hold. The more we do this, the stronger it'll become."
She turned her head to look at him. "I don't know if I want to become a wolf."
"You're not becoming a wolf. You're becoming pack. You're becoming mine."
She closed her eyes. The knot deflated slowly, and she felt him slip out of her. His release spilled from her body, warm and wet, and she felt no shame. Only a deep, possessive satisfaction.
When she stood, her legs trembled. Owen wrapped a robe around her, and Paige let herself be led back to her room. But she knew it wasn't her room anymore. It was theirs. The whole estate was theirs.
She looked out the window at the mountains, at the land that stretched for miles in every direction. It was beautiful and wild, just like the pack. Just like Silas. And for the first time, she did not want to leave.
The conflict still churned inside her, the rational woman screaming that this was wrong, that she was losing herself. But the other voice, the one that had been growing stronger, whispered that she was finally finding herself. And that voice was harder to ignore.
Paige pressed her hand to her chest, feeling the steady thrum of her heartbeat. It was faster than before, stronger. She could feel the pack moving through the estate, could sense their moods and their locations. She was connected to them now, bound by more than words.
She was becoming one of them. And she wasn't sure she could stop it even if she wanted to.
The preparatory rites continued over the following days. Each morning, Owen came to bathe and oil her. Each afternoon, the pack gathered to watch her submit to Silas. Each time, the knotting felt deeper, the bond stronger. Paige stopped fighting the changes. She started welcoming them.
On the final night before the moon ceremony, Silas came to her room. He did not speak. He simply held her, his arms wrapped around her, his body warm against hers. And for the first time, she felt safe.
"Tomorrow," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "Tomorrow you'll be fully mine."
Paige nodded, her cheek against his chest. "I know."
She did not say goodbye to the woman she had been. That woman was already gone, replaced by someone who craved the pack, who needed the knot, who wanted nothing more than to be Silas's mate. The transformation was nearly complete.
And for the first time, Paige was ready.
Moon Ceremony
The evening air carried the scent of damp earth and wild roses. Paige stood at the window of the master suite, watching the sun bleed orange and crimson across the mountain peaks. Below, figures moved through the gathering dusk. Pack members. Dozens of them, where there had been only a handful before.
Her hand drifted to the mark on her neck. The skin was warm, almost alive. It had been three days since the witnessed claiming. Days of preparation, of ritual baths and herbal teas that Owen brought each morning. Days of Silas's presence, constant and watchful, never far from her side.
"You're nervous," he said from the doorway.
She didn't turn. "I'm trying to decide if I'm nervous or if this is something else."
He crossed the room in silence. She felt him before she saw him, the heat of his body at her back, the familiar weight of his hand on her hip.
"It's the moon," he said. "It's pulling at you. At all of us."
She closed her eyes. He was right. There was a pressure building behind her ribs, a low hum in her blood that had been growing all day. The moon wasn't full yet. Not for another hour. But she could sense it, a presence like another heartbeat.
"I could leave," she said. The words came out soft, uncertain. "Right now. I could walk out the door and keep walking."
"Yes." His breath was warm against her ear. "You could."
She turned to face him. His silver eyes held hers, steady and patient. There was no challenge in his expression. No threat. Just a quiet waiting that felt more dangerous than any demand.
"Why don't I?" she asked.
"Because you're already mine, Paige. You've been mine since the moment I marked you. The ceremony tonight is just the telling of it."
She should have been angry. She should have pushed back, found the words to argue. But they weren't there. The fight that had carried her through the first days was gone, replaced by something hungrier.
"Owen said I need to prepare."
"Owen is waiting for you in the bath chamber. I'll bring you to the circle when it's time."
She nodded, not trusting her voice. He kissed her forehead, a gesture so tender it made her chest ache, and then he was gone.
The bath was hot and fragrant with herbs she couldn't name. Owen knelt beside the sunken tub, her calm voice explaining what would happen. The ritual. The circle. The moment when Paige would stand before the pack and choose.
"You don't have to do anything," Owen said, pouring warm water over Paige's shoulders. "The moon will do its work. You just have to let it."
"I don't know what I want."
Owen smiled, her amber eyes knowing. "Yes, you do. You're just afraid to admit it."
Paige sank deeper into the water, letting the heat soak into her bones. Owen was right. She knew what she wanted. She wanted the burn of Silas's knot. She wanted the weight of the pack around her. She wanted to stop fighting and let herself fall.
But she had been fighting her whole life. Surrender didn't come easy.
Owen helped her dress in a simple white shift that fell to her knees. No shoes. Her hair was left loose, curling around her shoulders. She looked like a bride. She looked like a sacrifice.
"You're neither," Owen said, as if reading her thoughts. "You're a woman choosing her family."
They walked through the darkened hallways of the estate, past windows that showed the moon rising fat and silver over the trees. The back door opened onto a path that wound through the gardens and into the forest.
Paige stepped outside and felt it hit her.
The moonlight poured down like water, cool and electric. It touched her skin and sank into her, awakening something that had been sleeping in her bones. Her breath caught. Her heart stuttered. The hum in her blood became a roar.
Silas waited at the edge of the clearing. He wore nothing but loose pants, his chest bare and gleaming in the moonlight. Behind him, the pack formed a circle. Torches flickered. Shadows danced.
She walked toward him. The grass was soft under her bare feet. Every step sent a pulse of heat through her body. By the time she reached him, she was trembling.
"Paige." His voice was low, rough. "Look at me."
She raised her eyes to his. The silver was bright, almost glowing. She could see the wolf in him, close to the surface.
"This is your last chance," he said. "Once the circle closes, once the ritual begins, it won't stop until I've claimed you in front of them all. Do you understand?"
"Yes." The word came out steady.
"Do you accept?"
She looked around at the faces in the torchlight. Owen, calm and watching. Torin, solid and patient. Others she had met in the past days, their eyes reflecting the same silver glow as Silas's. They were waiting. They were hoping.
She looked back at Silas.
"Yes."
The word hung in the air, a bell that hadn't finished ringing.
The pack shifted. The circle tightened. Silas took her hand and led her to the center of the clearing, where a flat stone sat in the grass. He gestured, and she lay down on it. The stone was warm, heated by the day's sun. It cradled her like a hand.
Silas stood over her. The moonlight turned his skin to marble, his eyes to molten silver. He looked down at her and she saw everything in his face. The duty. The desire. The unexpected tenderness that had grown between them.
"I'm going to claim you now," he said. "In front of my pack. In front of the moon. And you're going to take it."
She nodded, her throat tight.
He knelt between her legs. The white shift was pushed up, baring her to the night air. She was wet already, had been wet since the moment she stepped into the moonlight. Her body knew what was coming before her mind could catch up.
Silas's hands moved over her, slow and deliberate. He touched her like she was sacred. Like she was his. And in that moment, she was. She was his and the pack's and the moon's and she had never been more certain of anything.
"Please," she heard herself say.
"Please what?"
"Please. I need. I need you."
He smiled, and it was the first real smile she had seen from him. It transformed his face, softening the hard lines. "You'll have me. All of me. Tonight and every night after."
He lowered himself over her, his weight pressing her into the stone. The heat of his body merged with the heat rising from the rock. She could feel the pack around them, their presence a pressure in the air, their scents mixing with the night.
Silas's mouth found hers, and the kiss was nothing like the gentle press he'd given her forehead. This was claiming, too. His tongue swept past her lips, tasting her, demanding she open for him. She moaned into his mouth, her hands finding the broad planes of his back, pulling him closer. The hard muscles of his chest pressed against her breasts, the thin fabric of her shift doing nothing to hide the way her nipples peaked against him.
His mouth moved to her throat, to the mark he'd left there. He kissed it, then bit down gently, and the sensation shot through her like lightning. She gasped, her back arching off the stone. The mark was sensitive in ways she hadn't imagined, connected to every nerve ending in her body.
"Silas," she breathed.
"I need to taste you first," he murmured against her skin. "I need to know you're ready."
He kissed a path down her body. Over the collarbone. Between her breasts. Across her stomach, where the muscles jumped and quivered under his attention. He pushed the shift higher, bunching it beneath her breasts, and then his mouth was on her inner thigh, his breath hot against her slick flesh.
She made a sound she didn't recognize, something between a whimper and a moan. The pack was watching. She could feel their eyes, their attention, their hunger. It should have shamed her. Instead, it fed something dark and hungry inside her.
Silas's tongue found her center, and she cried out. The sound echoed through the clearing, swallowed by the chant that had begun to rise from the pack. He licked her slowly, deliberately, tracing the length of her slit before circling her clit with the tip of his tongue. She was already so close, the moonlight and the anticipation and the days of waiting having wound her tight as a bowstring.
He slid two fingers inside her, and she clenched around them, desperate for more. He worked them in and out, curling them to find the spot that made her see stars, all while his tongue continued its maddening work. Her hips rolled against his mouth, chasing the pleasure, demanding more.
"That's it," he said against her, the vibration of his voice sending shivers through her core. "Let them hear you. Let them know what I do to you."
She was past caring who heard. She was past anything but the heat building inside her, the pressure mounting with every stroke of his tongue. When he sucked her clit into his mouth, she shattered. The orgasm ripped through her, violent and sudden, and she screamed his name to the moon.
He didn't let her come down. He rose over her, his face glistening with her arousal, and kissed her deeply. She tasted herself on his tongue, musky and sweet, and the intimacy of it made her head spin. Then she felt the head of his cock pressing against her entrance, thick and insistent.
"Look at me," he said.
She opened her eyes. His silver gaze held hers, fierce and possessive.
Silas entered her in one slow, deep push.
She cried out. Not from pain, but from the sheer rightness of it. He filled her completely, stretching her in ways that made her gasp. She was still trembling from her first orgasm, her walls fluttering around him as he bottomed out, his hips flush against hers. The moonlight seemed to pulse around them, a rhythm that matched the beat of her heart.
He held still for a moment, letting her adjust. She could feel him throbbing inside her, feel the restraint in the tension of his body. Then he began to move. Slow at first, pulling almost all the way out before sliding back in, each thrust deliberate and deep. His hands gripped her hips, his fingers digging into her flesh hard enough to leave marks.
She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper. The angle changed, and suddenly he was hitting that spot with every stroke, sending sparks of pleasure cascading through her body. She dug her heels into the small of his back, urging him faster.
He gave her what she wanted. His pace increased, his thrusts growing harder, more urgent. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the clearing, obscene and beautiful. The pack's chant matched their rhythm, a low, primal sound that vibrated through the ground, through the stone, through her bones.
"You feel so good," Silas growled against her ear. "So tight. So wet. You were made for this. Made for me."
"Yes," she gasped. "Yes. Silas, please. More."
He gave her more. He drove into her with an intensity that bordered on savage, each thrust pushing her into the stone beneath her. She met him with equal force, her hips rising to take him deeper, her nails raking down his back. She felt the skin break under her fingers, felt his blood, warm and slick, and the taste of copper filled the air.
The heat built. Not the slow warmth of arousal, but a blazing inferno that swept through her body. Her skin flushed. Her breath came in ragged gasps. The moon was full overhead, pouring its light into her, and she felt herself changing.
Her nails lengthened. Her senses sharpened. She could smell every person in the circle, could taste the night air on her tongue. The wolf inside her, the one she had always denied, was waking up.
"Silas," she gasped.
"I know," he said. "I feel it too. Let it come, Paige. Don't fight it."
But she was already past fighting. The heat consumed her, a fire that burned away every doubt, every rational thought. There was only the moon and the pack and the man inside her.
She felt his knot beginning to swell at the base of his cock. The pressure built with each thrust, the sensitive tissue at her entrance stretching to accommodate him. It should have been too much, the sensation teetering between pleasure and pain, but her body knew what it needed. She bore down on him, taking him deeper, and felt the knot catch.
The sensation was overwhelming. The knot pressed against her G-spot with every tiny movement, sending waves of pleasure cascading through her. She was impaled on him, locked to him, unable to move without sending shockwaves through them both.
"Come for me," he commanded, his voice rough and strained. "Come on my knot, Paige. Now."
She came apart.
The orgasm hit her like a wave, crashing through her body and leaving her shattered. She arched against Silas, crying out his name, and she felt him follow her, felt his knot swell fully and lock them together. His cock pulsed inside her, flooding her with heat, and she felt every throb as he filled her with his seed.
The pack's chant rose to a crescendo. The moon seemed to pulse. And Paige lay there, pinned beneath Silas, locked in the most intimate embrace she had ever known, and she felt something shift.
She was pack.
She was home.
The knot held them for long minutes. Silas's breath was warm against her throat. His weight was heavy and perfect. She could feel his heart beating against her chest, a rhythm that matched her own. Each small movement sent aftershocks through her body, the knot keeping her in a state of constant, low-level orgasm that made her whimper against his shoulder.
"Paige." His voice was rough, raw. "Look at me."
She turned her head. His silver eyes were soft, vulnerable in a way she had never seen.
"I choose this," she said. The words came out steady, sure. "I choose you. I choose the pack. I choose this life."
He kissed her, soft and sweet, and she felt the knot begin to ease. But the bond between them was stronger than ever. She could feel it, a golden thread connecting her to him, to the pack, to the land itself.
Owen stepped forward, her voice clear in the night air. "The moon has witnessed. The pack has witnessed. Paige Ellison is claimed as mate to Alpha Silas Crowe, heart of the Frostfang Pack."
The pack howled. The sound rose into the night, a chorus of voices that shook the trees and echoed off the mountains. Paige felt it in her chest, a vibration that matched the hum of the moon.
Silas lifted her from the stone. Her legs were weak, her body trembling with aftershocks. He carried her to the edge of the clearing, where a blanket had been spread on the grass.
The pack dispersed, moving back toward the estate. But they didn't go far. She could sense them, a warm presence at the edge of her awareness.
Silas lay down beside her, pulling her into the curve of his body. The blanket was soft beneath her. The night air was cool on her heated skin.
"Are you all right?" he asked.
She laughed, a sound that surprised her. "I don't know what I am. But I'm all right."
He pressed a kiss to her shoulder. "You're my mate. That's what you are."
She turned in his arms, facing him. The moonlight silvered his features, made him look like something out of a myth. But he was real. He was solid. He was hers.
"I thought I would hate this," she said. "I thought I would fight until the end."
"And now?"
She reached up, tracing the line of his jaw. "Now I don't want to fight. I want to stay. I want to be here. With you. With the pack."
He caught her hand, pressing a kiss to her palm. "Then stay."
She looked up at the moon, full and bright overhead. She could feel it pulsing in her blood, a constant reminder of what she had become. But it didn't feel like a loss. It felt like a gift.
"I will," she said.
And she meant it.
The night stretched on around them, full of sounds and scents she was only beginning to understand. But she wasn't afraid. She wasn't uncertain. She was exactly where she was meant to be.
She closed her eyes and let the moon hold her.
When morning came, she would wake to a new life. But for now, she lay in the arms of her alpha, the pack's presence a warm blanket around her, and she slept without dreaming for the first time in weeks.
Shared Hierarchy
The morning after the Moon Ceremony, Paige woke to the weight of Silas's arm across her stomach and the lingering ache between her thighs. She lay still, cataloging the changes. Her skin felt more sensitive, her hearing sharper. She could hear the distant clatter of dishes from the kitchen, the low murmur of voices, the rustle of leaves outside the window.
She was different. She could feel it in her bones.
Silas shifted beside her, his hand sliding down to rest on her hip. "You're awake."
"I can hear everything," she said, her voice rough with sleep. "It's like someone turned up the volume on the world."
"Your senses are sharpening. It will continue for a few more days." His thumb traced a slow circle on her skin. "How do you feel?"
Paige considered the question. She felt sore, yes, but not in a way that made her want to complain. The ache was deep and satisfying, a physical reminder of what had happened under the moon. She felt claimed. Owned in a way that settled something restless inside her chest.
The thought should have terrified her. Instead, it quieted the anxiety that had lived in her ribs for as long as she could remember.
"I'm okay," she said. "Better than okay."
Silas made a low sound of approval. "Good. Tonight, the pack will begin the sharing rites."
Paige's stomach tightened. She had known this was coming. The hierarchy required it. She had seen how the pack operated, how Owen and Torin deferred to Silas but held their own rank. She understood the logic of it, the ancient structure that bound them all together.
Understanding and accepting were two different things.
"I know," she said quietly. "Owen explained it."
"Did she explain what it'll mean for you?" Silas shifted, propping himself on one elbow to look down at her. His silver eyes were intense in the dim morning light. "You'll submit to them as you submit to me. They'll claim you in their own way. Your body will learn to serve the pack, not just the alpha."
Paige swallowed. "And if I don't want to?"
"You do want to," Silas said, and his voice carried absolute certainty. "Your body already knows. Your instincts are waking up. By tonight, you'll be desperate for it."
She wanted to argue, to push back against his confidence. But she could feel the truth of his words stirring in her blood, a low hum of anticipation that had nothing to do with logic.
The day passed in a haze of preparation. Owen arrived in the late afternoon with a basket of herbs and oils, her calm presence a grounding force in the chaos of Paige's thoughts.
"These will help with the transition," Owen said, arranging small bottles on the vanity. "Your body is changing faster than usual. The alpha's claim was strong."
Paige sat on the edge of the bed, watching Owen work. "What exactly is going to happen tonight?"
Owen paused, turning to face her with a gentle expression. "The sharing rite is about hierarchy. Silas will present you to the pack. Torin and I will claim you in turn, establishing our rank in relation to you. It's not about punishment or degradation. It's about belonging."
"Belonging," Paige repeated, testing the word.
"Yes. You'll learn your place in the pack, and we'll learn ours in relation to you. It's a bond of trust and submission." Owen's amber eyes held hers. "I won't hurt you. Neither will Torin. We'll follow Silas's lead, and we'll take care of you."
Paige let out a slow breath. "And after tonight?"
"After tonight, you'll be one of us. Truly." Owen smiled, a rare warmth breaking through her scholarly composure. "You'll feel it. The connection between all of us. The pack bond."
The words stirred something in Paige's chest, a longing she hadn't admitted to herself. She wanted to belong. She wanted to feel connected to something larger than herself.
She wanted to stop fighting and let go.
The sun set, and the pack gathered in the great room. The fire had been lit, casting dancing shadows across the stone walls. Silas stood before the hearth, his presence commanding the space. Torin waited near the door, his broad shoulders silhouetted against the flames. Owen stood beside Paige, her hand resting lightly on Paige's arm.
"Come," Silas said, his voice carrying authority that made Paige's knees weak.
She walked to him, her bare feet silent on the worn floorboards. She had dressed as Owen instructed, in a simple robe that tied at the waist, easy to remove. The fabric felt thin and insubstantial against her skin.
Silas took her hand, guiding her to stand before him. His eyes swept over her, and she felt the weight of his attention like a physical touch.
"Tonight, you accept the pack," he said, loud enough for the others to hear. "You submit to the hierarchy. You open yourself to the bond."
Paige nodded, her throat tight.
"Speak it," Silas commanded gently.
"I accept the pack," she said, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands. "I submit to the hierarchy. I open myself to the bond."
Approval flickered in Silas's eyes. He reached out and untied her robe, letting it fall to the floor. The firelight painted her skin in gold and shadow, and she stood before them naked, exposed, vulnerable.
She didn't look away.
Silas stepped closer, his body heat wrapping around her. He cupped her face in his hands, tilting it up for a kiss that was slow and deliberate. His tongue swept into her mouth, tasting her, claiming her again. Paige melted into him, her hands gripping his shoulders as her knees went soft.
When he pulled back, she was breathless, her heart pounding.
"Turn around," he said, his voice low and rough.
She obeyed, facing the fire. The heat kissed her front while Silas's presence burned against her back. His hands found her hips, guiding her forward until she was bent over the arm of the heavy leather couch. The position left her open, exposed, completely at his mercy.
"Torin," Silas called. "Approach."
Paige's breath caught as she heard footsteps approaching. Torin's shadow fell over her, and she tensed, waiting.
"Easy," Silas murmured against her ear. "Trust me."
She forced herself to relax, to let go of the tension in her shoulders. Silas's hands stroked her back, her hips, her thighs, soothing her with slow, deliberate touches. His fingers drifted between her legs, finding her already wet, already swollen from the anticipation that had been building all day. He stroked her slowly, parting her folds, circling her clit with a maddening patience that made her whimper.
"She's ready," Silas said, his voice carrying a note of dark satisfaction. "Feel how wet she is. How desperate."
Torin knelt behind her, his presence massive and warm. His hands settled on her hips, replacing Silas's, and she felt the difference in his touch. Less controlled. More hungry. His thumbs dug into the flesh of her ass, spreading her open, and she felt the cool air brush against her exposed pussy.
"You're beautiful like this," Torin said, his voice a low rumble. "Open and waiting. Dripping for us."
Paige bit her lip, her face hot with shame and arousal. She felt his breath against her skin, hot and damp, then the wet heat of his tongue as he dragged it through her folds. She gasped, her body jerking at the unexpected sensation. He tasted her slowly, groaning against her flesh as if savoring something precious.
Torin didn't rush. He explored her methodically, his tongue circling her entrance before sliding up to flick against her clit. His hands gripped her thighs, spreading her wider, and he buried his face between them. He licked and sucked at her swollen bud, his tongue working in slow, deliberate circles while his fingers dug into the soft flesh of her thighs hard enough to bruise.
Paige's hips bucked against his mouth, seeking more. He responded by pressing his face deeper, his nose grinding against her sensitive flesh as his tongue fucked into her. The wet, obscene sounds of his mouth on her filled the room, mixing with her ragged breathing.
"Please," she heard herself begging, the word torn from her throat. "Please, I need more."
Silas moved to stand in front of her, his cock hard and heavy, jutting from his body. He gripped her hair, tilting her head back, and she opened her mouth for him without hesitation. He slid between her lips, the taste of him musky and salt, and she sucked him greedily while Torin's tongue continued its assault between her legs.
The dual sensation overwhelmed her. Silas's cock filling her mouth, Torin's tongue devouring her pussy. She was pinned between them, claimed at both ends, and the pleasure built inside her like a storm gathering force.
She felt her orgasm approaching, the tension coiling tighter and tighter in her belly. Torin sensed it too. He pulled back, leaving her teetering on the edge, her body clenching around nothing.
Torin rose behind her, and she felt the blunt head of his cock pressing against her entrance. He didn't push in. He waited, his breath ragged, his hands shaking against her hips.
"Ask me," he said, his voice strained. "I need to hear you ask."
Paige sobbed, the need burning inside her. Silas pulled from her mouth, giving her breath to speak. "Please, Torin. I need you inside me. Please fuck me. I can't stand it."
He thrust forward, burying himself to the hilt in one smooth motion. Paige screamed, the sensation overwhelming. He was thicker than Silas, longer, and he filled her completely. She felt stretched to her limit, her walls clenching around him as her body struggled to accommodate his size. The ache blended with pleasure until she couldn't tell them apart.
Torin held still for a moment, letting her adjust. His hands stroked her sides, her hips, the curve of her waist. "That's it," he murmured. "Take all of it. Good girl."
Then he began to move, his rhythm steady and relentless. Each thrust drove her deeper into the couch, his hips slamming against her ass with a force that made her whole body shake. The wet slap of flesh against flesh echoed off the stone walls. He reached around her, his fingers finding her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he fucked her.
Paige's moans turned to screams. The pleasure was blinding, consuming, building with each thrust. She could feel every inch of him inside her, the thick ridge of his cockhead dragging against her walls, the way her body opened for him again and again.
Silas watched from the front, his silver eyes tracking every moment, his hand moving over his own arousal. He stroked himself slowly, his gaze fixed on her face, watching every expression of pleasure that crossed her features.
"Look at him," Silas commanded. "Look at your alpha while his beta claims you."
Paige lifted her head, meeting Silas's gaze. The sight of him, dark and powerful, watching her submit to another man, sent a shock of pleasure through her. She was his, and he was sharing her, and somehow that made it more intimate, not less. His eyes held hers, burning with possessive heat, and she understood. This was his gift to her. His claim made manifest through the bodies of his pack.
Torin's pace quickened, his breathing harsh in her ear. His fingers worked her clit faster, harder, matching the rhythm of his thrusts. "I'm going to knot you," he warned. "It's part of the rite. It'll lock us together. You'll take it. All of it."
Paige nodded frantically, beyond words. She felt the base of his cock begin to swell, the knot forming and pressing against her entrance. Each thrust pushed the swelling deeper, stretching her wider, until she thought she couldn't possibly take more. The pressure was immense, bordering on pain, but the pleasure that accompanied it was transcendent.
When the knot finally locked into place, she cried out, the sensation of being completely filled and trapped sending her over the edge. Her orgasm crashed through her in waves, her walls clenching and rippling around the knot, milking it as her body convulsed with pleasure.
Torin followed, his shout echoing off the walls as he spilled into her. She could feel his cock pulsing inside her, each throb sending another stream of heat deep into her core. The knot held them together, pulsing, bonding, sealing his claim inside her body.
When it was over, Torin stayed inside her for a long moment, his forehead resting against her back. His breath came in ragged gasps, his hands still gripping her hips as if afraid to let go. "You did well," he murmured. "Better than I expected. So tight. So perfect."
Paige could barely speak. Her body hummed with aftershocks, her mind blank and peaceful. The knot slowly shrank, and Torin slipped free, his release trailing down her inner thighs. She felt empty without him, the absence acute after being so completely filled.
Silas came to her, lifting her from the couch and carrying her to the rug before the fire. He laid her down, positioning her on her back, her legs spread. The firelight played across her skin, illuminating the marks Torin had left on her thighs, the glistening evidence of his claim between her legs.
Owen approached, her robe already discarded, her body lean and graceful in the firelight. Her small breasts moved with each breath, her nipples tight and dark. She knelt between Paige's spread thighs, her amber eyes taking in the sight of her.
"This is different," Owen said softly, her hands sliding up Paige's thighs. "A woman's touch. A woman's claim. We take our time. We savor."
Paige watched, dazed, as Owen lowered her head. The first touch of Owen's tongue against her clit made her gasp, the sensation gentle after the roughness of the men. Owen was patient, teasing, building pleasure slowly and deliberately. Her tongue moved in soft, languid strokes, circling Paige's swollen bud without ever quite touching it directly.
"You're so sensitive," Owen murmured, her breath hot against Paige's wet flesh. "I can feel you trembling. Can you feel how responsive you've become?"
Paige could. Every nerve ending seemed to spark at Owen's touch. The woman's fingers joined her tongue, sliding inside Paige's slick channel, curling upward to find the spot that made her see stars. Two fingers, then three, stretching and filling while her tongue worked its patient magic.
"Let go," Owen whispered against her skin. "Let me take care of you. Don't hold back."
And Paige did. She let go of everything, the last threads of resistance, the final walls around her heart. She opened herself completely, accepting Owen's touch and Torin's claimed mark and Silas's watchful presence. Owen's mouth and fingers worked in concert, building her higher and higher, until the pleasure crested like a wave about to break.
When the orgasm tore through her, Paige didn't scream. She moaned low and deep, the sound vibrating through her chest, her body arching off the floor as Owen's tongue pressed flat against her clit and held. The climax rolled through her in long, shuddering waves, each one softer than the last, and she felt the pack bond snap into place.
Suddenly, she could feel them. All of them. Silas's steady strength like bedrock beneath her. Torin's fierce loyalty burning like a flame in her chest. Owen's calm wisdom flowing through her veins like cool water. They were inside her head, her heart, her blood. She was connected to them in a way she had never been connected to anyone.
She started to cry, tears streaming down her face.
Owen looked up, concern in her amber eyes. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," Paige sobbed. "I'm just... I can feel you. All of you. It's beautiful."
Owen smiled, genuine and warm. "Welcome to the pack, sister."
Silas gathered her into his arms, holding her against his chest. Torin knelt beside them, his hand resting on her leg. Owen curled against her side, her head on Paige's shoulder.
For the first time in her life, Paige felt like she was exactly where she was supposed to be.
The next night was different. The sharing continued, but the dynamic shifted. Paige was no longer a passive recipient. She moved between them, learning their bodies, their reactions, their preferences. She discovered the power in her submission, the control she gained by surrendering.
Silas watched her grow bolder, a gleam of pride in his silver eyes. "You're learning fast," he said as she knelt before Torin, taking him into her mouth.
She didn't answer, focused on the task at hand. Torin's hands tangled in her hair, guiding her rhythm, and she let him, finding pleasure in serving him. She swirled her tongue around the thick head of his cock, tasting the salt of him, before taking him deeper. Her jaw stretched to accommodate his girth, and she relaxed her throat, letting him slide further until she could feel him at the back of her tongue. When he came, she swallowed, feeling his release hit her throat in hot spurts, and she felt a surge of satisfaction.
Owen was next, and Paige discovered a new kind of pleasure in pleasing a woman. She learned where Owen liked to be touched, how she liked to be kissed, the sounds she made when Paige found the right spot. Paige's tongue explored Owen's folds delicately, tracing the delicate architecture of her sex, while her fingers worked inside. Owen's thighs trembled around her head, and when the other woman came, her cry was soft and musical, filling Paige with an aching tenderness that contrasted sharply with the raw power of the men.
By the third night, Paige's transformation was unmistakable. Her senses were sharper, her body more responsive. She moved with a new grace that hadn't been there before. The pack felt her changes, and they responded with increased attention and care.
"You're becoming one of us," Silas said, his hands cupping her face. "Your body knows it. Your instincts know it. Everything about you is changing."
"I can feel it," Paige admitted, leaning into his touch. "I don't want to leave. I don't want to go back to the way things were."
"You don't have to," Silas promised. "This is your home now. We are your pack."
She believed him. She trusted him. She loved him.
The word caught in her chest, but she didn't push it away. She loved him. She loved all of them, in different ways, for different reasons. The bond had opened her heart, and she was no longer afraid to feel.
On the fourth night, Silas presented her to the full pack for the first time. The estate was filled with wolves, their eyes glowing in the firelight, their presence overwhelming. But Paige didn't cower. She stood tall, naked and proud, her hand in Silas's.
"This is my mate," Silas announced, his voice carrying across the gathered pack. "She has accepted the claim. She has submitted to the hierarchy. She is one of us."
The pack howled, a chorus of wild sound that made Paige's blood sing.
She looked out at the faces, the wolves in human form, and she felt their acceptance, their welcome. She was no longer an outsider. She was pack.
Later that night, after the rituals were complete, Paige lay in Silas's arms, her body sated and content. Owen and Torin slept nearby, their presence a comfort in the dark.
"I never thought I'd be here," Paige whispered. "I never thought I'd want this."
Silas pressed a kiss to her hair. "And now?"
She smiled, the expression strange on her face but growing more natural every day. "Now, I can't imagine wanting anything else."
He held her tighter, and Paige closed her eyes, feeling the steady beat of his heart against her cheek. She was home. She was claimed. She was pack.
And she was exactly where she was meant to be.
External Challenge
The morning light filtered through the tall windows of the estate's library, casting long shadows across the ancient oak desk where Paige sat reviewing documents. Weeks had passed since the moon ceremony, and her body no longer felt entirely her own. The changes were subtle at first, a heightened awareness of scents and sounds that made her jump at small noises. Now she could hear the heartbeat of every pack member on the property.
Silas entered without knocking. He never did. His presence filled the room before he spoke a single word.
"We've got company coming."
Paige looked up from the papers in her hand. "What kind of company?"
"The wrong kind." He moved to stand beside her, his hand resting on the back of her neck. The gesture was possessive and grounding at the same time. "A law firm representing the Holloway Group. They're filing a challenge to the trust that holds this land."
Her stomach tightened. "I knew this might happen. The estate is worth a fortune, and there were always whispers about developers wanting to get their hands on it."
"They're not just developers. They're a rival pack with human front companies. They've been trying to take this territory for decades."
Paige set down the papers and turned to face him fully. The movement was fluid in a way it hadn't been before, her body responding to instincts she was still learning to understand. "What do they want?"
"The land. The bloodline. Everything we've built here." His silver eyes held hers. "But they won't get it. Not while I'm alpha. Not while you're claimed."
A knock at the door interrupted them. Owen entered, his amber eyes carrying a gravity that made Paige's new instincts flare with warning.
"The cars are coming up the drive," he said. "Three of them. Legal representatives and enforcers."
Silas's hand tightened on Paige's neck, a brief squeeze that sent a pulse of warmth through her. "Let them come. We have the law on our side, and we have the pack."
Paige stood, her legs steady beneath her. She was no longer the woman who had arrived at this estate months ago, armed only with legal knowledge and stubborn pride. She was pack now. She felt it in her bones.
The delegation entered the main hall with the confidence of people who expected to win. At their head was a tall man in an expensive suit, his salt-and-pepper hair slicked back, his smile polished and predatory.
"Ms. Ellison," he said, extending a hand that Paige did not take. "I'm Gerald Sutcliffe. I represent the Holloway Group. We have a legal claim to this property that predates even your grandmother's trust."
"I'm aware of the claim," Paige said, her voice steady. "And I've had my lawyers review it. It's based on a fraudulent land grant from 1842. It won't hold up in court."
Sutcliffe's smile didn't waver. "Perhaps. But courts take time. And in the meantime, we have a court order allowing us to conduct an inspection of the property to assess its condition."
He held out a thick envelope. Silas took it before Paige could, his fingers brushing hers in a silent gesture of support.
"You'll be escorted," Silas said. "By pack members. You won't wander."
Sutcliffe's eyes flicked to Silas, taking in his broad shoulders and the quiet threat in his posture. "Of course. We understand the need for... security."
It took several hours for the inspection team to finish their work. Paige watched them from the library windows, her fingers drumming on the desk as she reviewed the legal documents Owen had provided. The claim was weak, but it was enough to create chaos. Enough to force them to defend themselves.
When Sutcliffe returned, his smile was gone. "The property is in excellent condition. Our clients will be filing a motion to have the trust dissolved based on improper management."
"The trust has been managed according to its original terms for over a hundred years," Paige said. "You have no grounds."
"We have grounds." Sutcliffe pulled out another document. "This is a petition from the county zoning board. They're claiming the estate has been used for non-residential purposes without proper permits. They're ordering a halt to all activities until an investigation is completed."
Paige felt the blood drain from her face. This was a different kind of attack, one that used the system against them. Human law, not pack law.
Silas stepped forward, his voice low and dangerous. "This estate has been in my family for generations. We don't answer to your zoning board."
"You answer to the law, Mr. Crowe." Sutcliffe's smile returned. "And the law says you have thirty days to vacate pending the investigation."
The room went still. Paige could feel the pack's tension like a physical weight pressing down on her. Torin had moved to stand behind Silas, his hands clenched into fists. Owen was already on his phone, calling their lawyers.
"We'll see you in court," Paige said, her voice carrying a new edge that surprised even herself. "And we'll win."
Sutcliffe laughed. "You can try. But by the time the courts sort this out, the estate will be in receivership. And my clients will be ready to purchase it at auction."
He turned and walked out, his delegation following behind him. The doors closed with a heavy thud that echoed through the hall.
Paige's legs gave out. She sat down hard on the nearest chair, her hands shaking as she pressed them to her face.
"This is bad," she whispered. "This is really bad."
Silas knelt in front of her, his hands on her knees. "Look at me."
She raised her eyes to meet his.
"This is a test," he said. "Not of our legal standing, but of our bond. The Holloways think they can break us by threatening what we've built. But they don't understand what we have."
"What do we have?"
"A pack that's been here for centuries. A claim that goes back to the founding of this territory. And a mate who's already proven she'll fight for what's hers."
Paige felt something shift inside her. The fear was still there, but it was being pushed aside by something stronger. Something that felt like rage.
"They can't have this place," she said. "I won't let them."
"I know." Silas stood and pulled her to her feet. "But we need to prepare. The legal challenge is just the beginning. They'll try something physical next. They always do."
He was right. Days later, the attack came.
It was midnight when the alarms went off. Paige was in the master bedroom, her new senses already on alert before the sound reached her ears. She was on her feet and moving before she was fully awake, her body responding to the danger before her mind could catch up.
Silas was already at the window, his eyes glowing in the darkness. "They're coming through the eastern boundary. At least twenty of them."
"What do we need to do?"
He turned to her, and for a moment she saw something in his eyes she hadn't seen before. Pride. "Fight."
The pack assembled in the main hall. Torin was distributing weapons, silver-tipped blades and reinforced batons. Owen was coordinating positions, his voice calm and precise despite the tension in the air.
"Paige stays in the house," Silas said. "You're not trained for this."
"Like hell I'm not." The words came out before she could stop them. "I've been training with Torin for weeks. I know how to fight."
"This isn't training. This is war."
"Then I'm fighting in it." She stepped closer to him, her chin raised. "I'm your mate. I'm pack. And I'm not hiding while everyone else puts themselves in danger for this place."
Silas stared at her for a long moment. Then he nodded slowly. "Stay close to me. Don't engage unless you have to."
"I can do that."
The attack came fast. The Holloways' enforcers breached the eastern wall with a battering ram, pouring through the gap like a dark tide. The pack met them in the courtyard, the clash of bodies and weapons filling the night air.
Paige stayed behind Silas as they moved through the chaos. She saw Torin take down two attackers with brutal efficiency, his movements precise and deadly. She saw Owen directing pack members from a balcony, his voice carrying over the noise of battle.
Then she saw the man coming up behind Silas, a silver blade glinting in his hand.
Time slowed. Paige's body moved before her mind could think, her legs carrying her forward in a sprint that felt faster than anything she'd ever done. She launched herself at the attacker, her shoulder connecting with his chest and sending them both tumbling to the ground.
The blade clattered away. She pinned him with her knees, her hands finding his throat as instincts older than her human mind took over. She squeezed, and she didn't stop squeezing until his struggles ceased.
Silas was there, pulling her to her feet. "Paige. Paige, look at me."
She turned to him, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The world was sharp and bright, every sound amplified, every scent overwhelming. She could smell blood and sweat and fear, and beneath it all, the familiar scent of her pack.
"You saved my life," Silas said, his voice rough.
"I told you I could fight."
He pulled her into his arms, his mouth finding hers in a kiss that was fierce and desperate. The taste of battle was on his lips, and she drank it in like it was the only thing that mattered.
The fight ended an hour later. The Holloways' enforcers retreated, their wounded dragging the dead away with them. The pack had held the line. The estate was safe.
But the cost was visible in the broken bodies and the blood staining the courtyard stones.
Paige stood in the center of it all, her hands still trembling from the adrenaline. She had killed a man. She had felt his life leave his body beneath her hands. And she felt nothing but the fierce satisfaction of protecting what was hers.
Silas came to stand beside her, his arm wrapping around her waist. "You're shaking."
"I'm fine."
"You're not fine. But you will be." He turned her to face him. "What you did tonight, that wasn't just survival. That was claiming. You proved that this territory is yours as much as mine."
"I didn't do it for the territory. I did it for you. For the pack."
"I know." He pressed his forehead to hers. "That's what makes it real."
They walked back to the house together, the pack parting to let them pass. Paige could feel their eyes on her, and for the first time, she didn't feel like an outsider. She felt like one of them.
In the master bedroom, Silas closed the door and turned to face her. There was something different in his eyes now, a hunger that went beyond desire.
"I need to claim you again," he said. "Properly. With everything we have."
Paige nodded, her throat tight. "I need that too."
He undressed her slowly, his hands reverent on her skin. The blood had dried on her clothes, and he peeled them away like he was removing armor. His fingers traced the curve of her shoulder, the line of her collarbone, the soft skin beneath her ear. When her shirt fell away, he pressed his mouth to the pulse point at her neck, breathing her in. She smelled of sweat and copper and something wilder underneath, something that was purely her.
When she stood naked before him, he knelt.
"You fought for this pack tonight," he said, his breath warm against her stomach. "You killed for it. That makes you more than a mate. It makes you a warrior."
"I don't feel like a warrior. I feel like I'm still learning who I am."
"That's what warriors feel. The ones who are real." He pressed his mouth to her stomach, his tongue tracing a path up her body. He kissed the space between her ribs, the underside of her breast, the hollow of her throat. Each touch was deliberate, worshipful, as if he was mapping the terrain of everything she had become. "Let me show you what you've become."
He lifted her onto the bed, his body covering hers. The weight of him was familiar now, but the intensity was new. Every touch was charged with the memory of battle, the knowledge that they had almost lost everything. His hands roamed her body with a desperation that made her arch into him, her fingers tangling in his hair as he kissed his way down her chest. His tongue circled her nipple, then drew it into his mouth, sucking gently at first, then harder, until she was gasping.
"Silas," she breathed, and his name on her lips sounded like a prayer and a demand all at once.
He moved lower, his mouth tracing a line down her stomach, his hands gripping her hips. When he reached the junction of her thighs, he paused, looking up at her with those silver eyes that seemed to burn in the dim light. He breathed against her, and the heat of it made her tremble.
"Mine," he said, and the word was a growl that vibrated through her.
Then his mouth was on her, his tongue finding the slick heat between her legs and tasting her with a hunger that made her cry out. He worked her slowly at first, his tongue circling the swollen bud of her clit before dipping lower to push inside her. She grabbed the sheets, her hips bucking against his mouth, chasing the pleasure that was building inside her like a storm.
He slid two fingers inside her, curling them upward, finding the spot that made her see stars. His tongue kept its rhythm on her clit, relentless and skilled, and she could feel the orgasm building, coiling tight in her belly. He added a third finger, stretching her, and the fullness pushed her closer to the edge.
"Come for me," he commanded against her flesh, and she shattered.
Her orgasm crashed through her, her body clenching around his fingers, her thighs trembling on either side of his head. She cried out his name, her back arching off the bed, and he didn't stop, didn't let up, drawing every wave of pleasure out of her until she was spent and trembling.
He kissed his way back up her body, his mouth slick with her. When he reached her lips, she tasted herself on his tongue and pulled him closer, her hands fumbling with the buttons of his shirt. She needed to feel him, all of him, needed the weight of his skin against hers.
He helped her, shrugging off his clothes with an impatience that matched her own. When he was finally bare, she ran her hands over the hard planes of his chest, feeling the raised lines of old scars beneath her fingertips. He was beautiful in the moonlight, all muscle and danger and the quiet power of something ancient.
She wrapped her hand around his cock, feeling the weight of him, the heat. He was hard and thick, and at the base she could feel the swelling of his knot, the part of him that would bind them together. She stroked him slowly, her thumb circling the head, and he groaned, his forehead dropping to her shoulder.
"I need to be inside you," he said, his voice rough and broken.
"Then be inside me."
He positioned himself between her legs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance. She was still wet from his mouth, still trembling from her release, and when he pushed inside her, inch by inch, she cried out at the fullness. He was big, and she felt every bit of him as he filled her, stretching her open around him.
He paused when he was fully seated, giving her a moment to adjust. His eyes found hers, and in that moment, she saw everything. The alpha. The warrior. The man who had claimed her and been claimed in return.
Then he began to move.
His thrusts were slow at first, deliberate and deep, each one pressing against the places inside her that made her gasp. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, and he responded with a groan that sounded like surrender. His pace quickened, the rhythm becoming harder, more urgent.
"Harder," she gasped. "I need it harder."
He gave her what she asked for. His thrusts became brutal and claiming, each one driving her deeper into the mattress. The sound of their bodies meeting was obscene and beautiful, a wet slap of flesh that echoed in the dark room. She clawed at his back, her nails leaving marks that would heal into scars, and he growled against her neck, his breath hot and ragged.
She could feel his knot swelling at the base of his cock, catching at her entrance with each thrust. The pressure was building again inside her, a second orgasm that felt different from the first, deeper and more primal. She arched her back to welcome it, to take all of him inside her.
"Take it," he growled. "Take all of me."
With one final thrust, his knot slipped inside her, swelling until it locked them together. The fullness was overwhelming, a pressure against her inner walls that sent her spiraling over the edge. She came with a scream, her body clenching around him in waves that she couldn't control.
He followed her over. She felt the pulse of his release deep inside her, hot and thick, filling her in spurts that seemed to last forever. He buried his face in her neck, his own cry muffled against her skin, and she held him as he shook apart inside her.
They stayed locked together, his knot keeping them joined, his release still pulsing in weak waves. She could feel every twitch, every throb, and she clenched around him involuntarily, making him groan.
"You're going to kill me," he murmured against her neck.
"What a way to go."
He laughed, a low rumble that she felt more than heard, and pressed a kiss to the mark on her throat. The bond between them pulsed, warm and bright, a connection that went deeper than flesh.
They lay together in the aftermath, their bodies tangled and slick with sweat. His knot eventually softened, and he slipped free of her, but he didn't move far, pulling her close against his chest. Paige's hand rested over his heart, feeling the steady beat beneath her palm.
"We won," she said.
"We did." He pressed a kiss to her hair. "And we'll keep winning. As long as we're together."
She closed her eyes, letting the exhaustion wash over her. The threat wasn't over. The legal challenge was still pending, and the Holloways would try again. But tonight, she had proven something to herself. She was no longer the woman who had arrived at this estate with nothing but legal documents and pride. She was pack. She was claimed. And she would fight for what was hers until her last breath.
The bond between her and Silas pulsed in her chest, a warmth that spread through her body like a second heartbeat. It was stronger now, sealed by blood and battle and the fierce reaffirmation of their claim.
Outside, the estate stood silent under the stars. The walls had held. The pack had survived. And Paige Ellison, the historian who had come to inherit a mountain, had found something far more valuable than land.
She had found her home.
Estate and Bond Sealed
The morning sun filtered through the tall windows of the master suite, casting long golden rectangles across the hardwood floor. Paige stood at the window, her hand resting on the cool glass, watching the mist rise from the valley below. The estate felt different now. It had felt different since the challenge.
She could sense the land beneath her feet, the pulse of it, the way the ancient trees breathed in rhythm with the pack. This was no metaphor. It was a physical sensation, a connection that hummed through her blood like a second heartbeat.
Silas came up behind her, his presence unmistakable, the weight of his attention settling over her like a warm cloak. He did not touch her. Not yet. He stood close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body, could smell the clean forest scent of his skin.
"The final rite is tonight," he said.
Paige nodded, not turning. "I know."
"You're ready."
His tone carried the quiet certainty that had once infuriated her. Now it settled something deep in her chest, a lock clicking into place.
She turned to face him. "I know."
His silver eyes searched her face, and she let him look. There was no more hiding, no more resistance, no more pretense that she was anything other than what she had become. His mate. The pack heart. The woman who carried their future in her womb, though she had not yet confirmed it. She knew. Her body knew. The instincts that had awakened over the past weeks whispered it to her every morning when she woke with her hand pressed to her belly.
"There's a place on the estate," Silas said, his voice low and rough. "The old heart. Where the first of my bloodline built the original shelter. The pack hasn't gathered there in decades. Tonight we will."
"Why there?"
"Because the bond must be sealed where it began. The land remembers. It will witness."
Paige felt a shiver run down her spine, but it was not fear. It was anticipation. It was the same electric readiness that had been building in her since the challenge, since she had fought alongside the pack, since she had felt Silas's blood on her hands and known that she would never leave.
"What do I need to do?" she asked.
"Be present. Be willing. Let the rite complete what's already begun."
She reached out and placed her hand on his chest, feeling the steady thrum of his heart beneath her palm. "I'm willing."
He covered her hand with his own, his fingers warm and strong. "I know."
The day passed in a haze of preparations. Owen came to her rooms with a ceremonial robe, deep crimson embroidered with silver thread that traced the patterns of the pack's lineage. The fabric was heavy and soft, lined with fur that smelled of the forest.
"This belonged to the last alpha's mate," Owen said, her amber eyes gentle. "It's been waiting for you."
Paige ran her fingers over the embroidery. "How did you know I'd come?"
Owen smiled, a rare expression that softened her scholarly features. "The bloodline doesn't break. It only waits."
Paige dressed slowly, the ritual of it calming her nerves. The robe settled over her shoulders like a second skin, and when she looked in the mirror, she barely recognized the woman staring back. Her auburn hair hung loose around her shoulders, her green eyes bright with something that was not quite human. The mark on her neck, Silas's claiming bite, had healed into a permanent silver scar that caught the light.
She was beautiful. Powerful. His.
As dusk fell, Torin appeared at her door. He said nothing, simply nodded and extended his arm to escort her. She took it, letting him lead her through the estate and out into the deepening twilight.
The path to the old heart wound through the forest, past ancient oaks whose roots had grown thick and gnarled over centuries. The pack had cleared the way, placing lanterns along the route that cast warm pools of light on the mossy ground. Paige could hear them moving in the trees, the soft rustle of bodies, the low murmur of voices. They were watching. They were waiting.
The clearing opened before her, and she stopped.
At the center stood a circle of standing stones, worn smooth by time and weather. In the middle of the circle, a fire pit had been prepared, filled with kindling and logs. Beyond the stones, the foundation of the original shelter was visible, low walls of stacked stone that marked where the first Frostfang had built his home.
Silas stood in the center of the circle, shirtless, his powerful body painted with ceremonial markings that traced the lines of muscle and bone. The symbols glowed faintly in the fading light, and when he turned to look at her, his silver eyes burned.
Paige walked forward, her heart pounding, her bare feet pressing into the cool earth. The pack closed in behind her, forming a ring around the stones. She could sense their presence, their attention, their approval. They had accepted her. They had claimed her as their own.
She stepped into the circle, and Silas took her hands.
"Paige Ellison," he said, his voice carrying through the clearing. "You came to this land as a stranger. You stand here now as pack. The blood of the Frostfang runs in your veins, awakened by the rites, sealed by the bond. Tonight, we complete what was begun. Tonight, you become my mate in full."
She looked up at him, her breath catching in the throat. "I'm ready."
He released her hands and knelt before her, a gesture that sent a murmur through the pack. The alpha knelt to no one. But he knelt to her.
"I claim you before the land and the pack," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "I claim you as my equal, my partner, the mother of my children, the heart of our people. I give you my protection, my loyalty, my body, and my life. From this night until the end of my days, you are mine, and I am yours."
Tears pricked at Paige's eyes. She had never expected this. She had expected dominance, demand, the iron will of an alpha enforcing his claim. She had not expected devotion.
She reached down and touched his face, her fingers tracing the sharp line of his jaw. "I accept."
He rose, and the fire blazed to life behind him, the flames leaping high as if fed by the energy of the pack. The light danced over his skin, over the markings, over the hunger in his eyes.
The pack began to chant, low and rhythmic, a sound that vibrated through the earth and into Paige's bones. It was ancient, primal, a language she did not know but understood in her blood.
Silas stepped closer, his hands finding her waist, pushing the heavy robe from her shoulders. It fell to the ground, pooling at her feet, leaving her bare before him, before the pack, before the land itself. She did not flinch. She did not hide.
She stood before him in the firelight, every curve illuminated, every mark of his claiming on her skin visible. Her breasts rose and fell with her quickening breath, her nipples tight in the cool evening air. The silver scar on her neck gleamed, and lower, on her inner thigh, another mark pulsed with faint luminescence. She was beautiful. Powerful. His.
And he was hers.
His mouth found hers, and the kiss was not the controlled dominance of their first nights. It was raw, hungry, desperate. It was the kiss of a man who had found his equal, his completion, his reason for being. Paige melted into him, her hands fisting in his hair, pulling him closer until there was no space between them.
The pack's chant grew louder, faster, matching the pounding of her heart.
Silas lifted her, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, feeling the hard length of him pressing against her core, the heat of his skin searing hers. He carried her to the center of the circle, to the soft bed of furs that had been laid before the fire, and lowered her onto them.
The furs were soft against her back, still warm from the fire's heat. Silas hovered over her, his body blocking out the sky, his eyes burning with a fire that matched the flames. The ceremonial paint on his chest caught the light, tracing the defined muscles of his abdomen, the sharp planes of his hips.
"This is the final turning," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "When I take you tonight, the bond will be sealed. There's no going back. You'll be pack. You'll be mate. You'll be mine in a way that can't be undone."
"I know," she said, reaching up to touch his face. "I want that. I want you. I want this."
He lowered himself, his body covering hers, and the heat of him was overwhelming. His skin against hers, his scent filling her lungs, his weight pressing her into the furs. She arched up into him, needing more, needing everything.
His mouth moved to her neck, to the scar of his claiming bite, and he kissed it, licked it, traced it with his tongue. She gasped, her body arching off the furs, her hands gripping his shoulders. The sensation shot through her like lightning, pooling low in her belly, making her wet and ready.
"Silas," she breathed, and his name was a prayer on her lips.
He worked his way down her body, his mouth hot and hungry on her skin. He kissed the hollow of her throat, the swell of her breasts, the taut peak of each nipple. He took one into his mouth, sucking gently at first, then harder, his tongue swirling around the sensitive flesh. She cried out, her fingers tangling in his hair, holding him to her.
His hands were everywhere, calloused palms rough against her soft skin. He traced the curve of her waist, the flare of her hips, the inside of her thighs. His fingers found her center, slick and swollen, and he groaned against her breast.
"So ready," he murmured. "So wet for me."
"Always," she gasped. "I'm always ready for you."
He stroked her, one finger sliding inside, then two, his thumb finding the sensitive bud at her core. She writhed beneath him, her body clenching around his fingers, desperate for more. The chant of the pack swelled around them, a primal rhythm that matched the thrust of his hand.
He moved lower, his mouth replacing his fingers, his tongue hot and insistent against her most sensitive flesh. She screamed, her hips bucking off the furs, her hands fisting in the pelts beneath her. He held her hips steady, his grip firm, his mouth relentless. He licked and sucked and stroked until she was trembling, until she was begging, until she was on the edge of release.
"Not yet," he growled, pulling back. "Not until I'm inside you."
He moved over her again, his body covering hers, his cock hard and hot against her thigh. She could feel him, thick and ready, and she spread her legs wider, lifting her hips in invitation.
"Please," she whispered. "Please, Silas. I need you."
He positioned himself at her entrance, the broad head of him pressing against her opening. She was slick and swollen, her body trembling with need, and she tried to arch up, to take him in, but he held her still with a hand on her hip.
"Look at me," he commanded, and she obeyed, her eyes locking with his silver ones. "You're mine."
"Yes."
"Say it."
"I'm yours."
He entered her slowly, deliberately, a deep and claiming thrust that stole her breath. She cried out, her nails raking down his back, and he groaned against her throat. He filled her completely, stretched her, possessed her. She could feel every inch of him, the heat of him, the pulse of his blood inside her.
He held still for a moment, letting her adjust, letting the sensation wash over them both. The bond between them pulsed, a living thing, growing stronger with every heartbeat. She could feel his pleasure, his need, his love, mingling with her own until she couldn't tell where she ended and he began.
The chant of the pack faded into the background, becoming a rhythm that matched their movements. Silas withdrew slowly, almost completely, then thrust back in, deep and hard. Paige gasped, her back arching, her legs wrapping tighter around his waist. He set a steady, relentless pace, each thrust pushing her higher, deeper, closer to the edge.
His mouth found her breast again, his tongue tracing circles around her nipple as he moved inside her. She could feel the pressure building, the coil of pleasure tightening low in her belly. Her hands roamed over his back, feeling the play of muscle beneath his skin, the sweat beginning to slick his shoulders.
"Faster," she gasped. "Harder."
He obliged, his hips snapping forward, driving into her with a force that made the furs shift beneath them. She met him thrust for thrust, her hips rising to meet his, her body hungry for everything he could give her. The sound of their joining filled the clearing, slick flesh against flesh, the wet slide of their bodies coming together.
"Look at me," he commanded again, and she obeyed, her eyes locking with his. "You're mine."
"Yes," she gasped. "Yours. Always yours."
He drove into her harder, deeper, and she felt the head of his cock brush against something deep inside her, something that made her vision blur and her breath catch. He hit that spot again, and again, and she was falling, shattering, her orgasm ripping through her with a force that left her gasping. She clenched around him, her body milking his, and he followed moments later, his body shuddering as he spilled into her, his knot swelling and locking them together.
The sensation of his knot expanding inside her sent another wave of pleasure crashing through her, and she cried out, her body convulsing around his. He groaned, his face buried in her neck, his hips jerking involuntarily as the knot tied them together, sealed them as one.
They lay there, tangled and breathless, the fire crackling beside them, the pack's chant slowly fading into silence. Paige could feel him inside her, the knot holding them together, the bond pulsing between them like a living thing. It was more than physical. It was spiritual, primal, a connection that went beyond flesh and blood.
His weight settled over her, comfortable and grounding. She could feel his heart beating against her chest, could feel the bond humming between them, strong and sure. He kissed her shoulder, her neck, the scar of his claiming bite, each touch a benediction.
She pressed her hand to her belly, and she knew. She had known for days, but now she was certain. She could feel the spark of new life, tiny and bright, nestled in the warmth of her womb. The bond pulsed around it, protective and fierce, and she knew that the child was already part of the pack, already claimed by the land.
"Silas," she whispered.
He lifted his head, his eyes searching hers. "What is it?"
She took his hand and pressed it to her belly, over the place where the spark burned. "I'm pregnant."
His breath caught, and she watched the emotions flicker across his face. Shock gave way to wonder, then to a fierce, possessive joy that made his eyes glow.
"You're certain?"
"I've known for three days. I wanted to wait until tonight."
He lowered his head, pressing his forehead to hers, his hand still pressed to her belly. "A child. Our child."
"The pack's future."
He kissed her, soft and tender, a kiss that was nothing like the claiming kisses of before. This was reverence. This was worship.
When he pulled back, his eyes were wet. "You've given me everything."
"You gave me myself," she said. "I didn't know who I was until you found me."
He gathered her in his arms, holding her against his chest, and she listened to the steady beat of his heart. The fire crackled, the stars wheeled overhead, and the land hummed beneath them, satisfied, complete.
The pack began to disperse, melting back into the forest, leaving the alpha and his mate alone in the circle of standing stones. The night was quiet, the air cool, and Paige felt more at peace than she had ever felt in her life.
She was home. She was pack. She was his.
And she would never leave.
The weeks that followed were a blur of change. Paige threw herself into the restoration of the estate, not as a historian preserving a relic, but as a pack heart building a home. Rooms that had been dark and empty for decades were opened, cleaned, filled with light and life. The pack gathered in the great hall for meals, their laughter echoing off the stone walls.
Silas was at her side constantly, his hand on her back, his scent wrapped around her. The bond between them had deepened into something that did not require words. She could sense his moods, his needs, his love, pulsing through the connection like a second heartbeat.
Her pregnancy progressed quickly, as was the way of shifters. The changes in her body did not frighten her. She welcomed them. Her belly swelled, her breasts grew heavy, and the instincts that had awakened in her sharpened into something fierce and protective.
She was carrying the future of the pack. She was the vessel of their continuation. And she was proud.
One evening, near the end of her term, she stood on the balcony of the master suite, looking out over the valley. The estate was fully restored now, the gardens blooming, the fields green. The pack had grown, new members drawn by the strength of the bond and the security of the land.
Silas came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her, his hands resting on her swollen belly.
"You're happy," he said. It wasn't a question.
"Yes."
"No regrets?"
She turned in his arms, looking up at him. "Not one. I fought you. I resisted. I tried to find a way out. But this is where I was always meant to be. This is who I was always meant to be."
He kissed her, soft and slow. "You're the heart of this pack, Paige. You're my heart."
She leaned into him, feeling the child kick against her ribs, feeling the land pulse beneath her feet, feeling the bond that tied her to every member of the pack, to every tree and stone and stream on the estate.
She was not the woman who had arrived here months ago, armed with legal documents and academic pride. That woman had been a shell, a collection of defenses and ambitions that meant nothing in the face of what she had become.
She was Paige Crowe, mate of the alpha, heart of the Frostfang Pack, mother of the future.
And she was home.
The estate was sealed under their joint claim. The bond was complete. The future stretched out before them, bright and certain.
Paige smiled, pressed her hand to her belly, and let the peace of the land wash over her.
She was exactly where she was meant to be.
