Office Ambush
Carl Durbin leaned back in his leather chair, the glow of his monitor casting sharp shadows across the empty office floor. It was past midnight, and the building had long since gone quiet. He had stayed late to review the quarterly projections, the kind of work that demanded focus without interruption. His tailored shirt sleeves were rolled to his elbows, tie loosened just enough for comfort, but his mind stayed sharp. The family company was his to protect, and he never let his guard down.
A soft knock broke the silence. The door opened before he could answer, and Tammy stepped inside. His younger sister wore a fitted black dress that clung to her curves, the neckline plunging low enough to draw the eye. Her long auburn hair fell loose over one shoulder, and her green eyes held that familiar spark of entitlement. She carried a tablet in one hand, but her posture said she had come for something else.
"Working late again, brother?" Tammy said, her voice smooth and teasing. She closed the door behind her and leaned against it for a moment, letting the silence stretch. "I thought you might need some company. Or at least someone to keep you from staring at spreadsheets all night."
Carl set his pen down and watched her cross the room. The dress rode up slightly as she moved, revealing more thigh than any corporate meeting would allow. He kept his expression neutral, though something in her timing felt off. She never visited his office this late without a reason, and her smile looked rehearsed.
"You usually email if it's about work," he said, voice low and even. "What's on your mind, Tammy?"
She perched on the edge of his desk, crossing her legs so the hem of the dress slid higher. The scent of her perfume reached him, something warm and sweet that filled the space between them. "Maybe I just wanted to talk. You've been so busy lately. Father always said the company comes first, but even you need a break sometimes."
Carl's gaze flicked to the tablet she set down. It faced away from him, screen dark. He noted the way her fingers lingered near it, as if guarding something. "Talk about what? The board meeting next week? Or are you here to pitch another one of your ideas for expansion?"
Tammy laughed softly, the sound light but calculated. She leaned forward, resting one hand on his desk so her dress gaped just enough to offer a clear view. "You always assume the worst. Can't a sister check on her big brother? You look tense. Let me help with that."
She reached out and placed her palm on his shoulder, fingers pressing lightly through the fabric. The touch was warm, deliberate. Carl felt the shift in the air immediately. This was not a casual visit. Her eyes stayed on his, searching for a reaction, and he caught the faint click of something mechanical from the direction of the tablet.
"Tammy," he said, not moving away yet. "What are you really doing here?"
Her smile widened, but it didn't reach her eyes. She slid closer on the desk, her knee brushing his thigh. "Relax. You've been carrying everything since Dad stepped back. I could take some of the load off. Or at least make the nights less lonely." Her hand moved from his shoulder to his chest, tracing the line of his shirt buttons. "We both know how hard you work. Let me show you some appreciation."
Carl's mind sharpened. He recognized the setup now. The late hour, the revealing dress, the way she angled herself toward the tablet. She was recording this. The realization settled cold in his gut, but he kept his face calm. Attraction flickered despite himself, a forbidden pull he had learned to suppress over the years. Tammy had always been ambitious, but this crossed into something darker.
"Appreciation," he repeated, testing the word. "You think a few touches will change how things run around here?"
She didn't pull back. Instead she shifted, sliding off the desk and into his lap with practiced ease. Her body pressed against him, warm and soft, the dress riding up to expose the tops of her stockings. "Maybe more than a few touches," she murmured, lips close to his ear. "You don't have to pretend you haven't thought about it. We're alone. No one has to know."
Her fingers worked at his tie, loosening it further. She pressed a kiss to his jaw, then lower, her breath hot against his skin. Carl's hands stayed on the armrests, but his pulse quickened. He could feel the trap closing. The tablet was still active, he was certain now, capturing every second. If he let this go further, she would have leverage. Blackmail material aimed straight at the company he controlled.
"Stop," he said quietly, the command firm but not loud. He placed one hand on her waist, not pushing yet, just holding her in place. "This isn't you, Tammy. Tell me what you're after."
She paused, but only for a breath. Her green eyes flashed with that bratty defiance he knew too well. "I'm after what's mine. You think you can keep running everything while I sit on the sidelines? A little cooperation could change that." Her hand slid lower, brushing over the front of his trousers. "Or we can keep pretending this is just family business."
Carl caught her wrist before she could go further. The contact sent a jolt through him, but he channeled it into control. "You're recording this," he stated, eyes narrowing toward the tablet. "Don't bother denying it. I can hear the device."
Tammy's expression flickered, surprise mixed with irritation. She tried to pull her hand free, but he held it steady. "You're imagining things. I came here because I wanted to. You're my brother. Can't we have a little fun without turning it into a corporate takeover?"
He released her wrist and stood, forcing her to step back. The office felt smaller now, charged with the tension she had created. "Fun doesn't involve hidden cameras. Pack up whatever you brought and leave. We can discuss your role in the company tomorrow, during proper hours."
She straightened her dress, but the flush on her cheeks betrayed her. "You always think you're one step ahead. This could have been good for both of us." She grabbed the tablet, and in her haste the screen lit up briefly. Carl caught a glimpse of the recording interface before she killed it.
"Out," he said, voice dropping lower. "Now."
Tammy lingered at the door, her bratty smile returning despite the setback. "Fine. But don't act surprised when things change around here." She opened the door and slipped out, the click of her heels fading down the hall.
Carl remained standing for a long moment, the scent of her perfume still hanging in the air. He moved to his desk and checked the security feed on his own system. The hidden camera she had planted in the corner of the room had captured most of the encounter, but the angle showed only her approach and his deflection. Partial evidence, enough to confirm her intent but not enough to ruin him. He saved the file, already planning his next move. She had started a game she wouldn't win.
