Arrival at the Lake

The gravel crunched under the tires of Kelly's beat-up Honda Civic as she pulled into the long driveway. The lake house emerged through the trees like something from a dream. Weathered cedar planks gleamed in the late afternoon sun. Floor to ceiling windows reflected the glittering water beyond. A wraparound deck hugged the entire structure. She killed the engine and sat there for a moment, her pulse thudding against her ribs.

She had imagined this weekend for months. Ever since Brooke had mentioned her summer internship in Chicago. Ever since her best friend had casually asked if Kelly wanted to house-sit at the lake house instead of staying in her cramped dorm.

Say yes, she had thought. Say yes and maybe he'll be there.

And here she was. Marcus Carrol stood on the front porch, wiping his hands on a rag, a smile spreading across his face as he recognized her car.

Kelly grabbed her overnight bag and stepped out into the warm summer air. The scent of pine and lake water wrapped around her. Crickets chirped in the underbrush. Somewhere nearby, a bird called out from the treeline. She smoothed her sundress and pushed her auburn hair behind her ears.

"There's my girl," Marcus said, his voice deep and warm.

He descended the porch steps with an easy confidence that made her stomach flip. He wore faded jeans and a tight gray t-shirt that hugged his broad shoulders. His salt-and-pepper hair was slightly disheveled, like he had been running his hands through it. His trimmed beard framed a smile that reached his blue eyes.

Kelly's breath caught. She had seen him dozens of times. At Brooke's birthday parties, at graduation, during random drop-offs and pick-ups. But never like this. Never alone. Never with the whole weekend stretching ahead of them like a blank page.

He reached her and pulled her into a hug. His arms wrapped around her, strong and sure. She pressed against his chest, feeling the solid warmth of him. She inhaled his scent. Sandalwood and something clean, like fresh laundry. Her hands settled on his back, feeling the muscles shift beneath the fabric.

The hug lingered.

One second too long. Two seconds. His chin rested on top of her head. She felt his breath stir her hair. Her pulse raced so hard she was sure he could feel it.

"You made good time," he said, his voice rumbling through his chest.

"Traffic wasn't bad." She pulled back, forcing herself to meet his gaze. "Thanks for letting me stay. I know Brooke was worried about the house being empty."

"Happy to have the company." He released her slowly, his hands sliding from her shoulders to her arms before finally dropping away. "Let me help you with your bags."

He grabbed her duffel and a tote bag before she could protest. She followed him up the porch steps, watching the way his back muscles moved under his shirt. The screen door creaked open. She stepped inside.

The lake house was beautiful. Open concept living area with vaulted ceilings. A massive stone fireplace dominated one wall. The kitchen was all stainless steel and dark granite. French doors led out to a back deck and the pool beyond. Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting everything in a golden glow.

"Guest room's down the hall," Marcus said, nodding toward a corridor. "Second door on the right. I figured you'd want the one with the lake view."

"Perfect." Kelly followed him down the hall, her sandals slapping against the hardwood floors.

The guest room was cozy. Queen bed with a white duvet. A window that looked out over the water. A small dresser and closet. He set her bags on the bed.

"Make yourself at home," he said. "I was just about to pour myself a drink. Join me on the deck when you're settled."

"I'd like that."

He smiled again, that slow, warm smile that made her feel like the only person in the world. Then he left, pulling the door mostly closed behind him.

Kelly let out a shaky breath. She pressed her hands to her cheeks. They were burning.

Get it together, she told herself. You're here for a weekend. Brooke's dad. Just a friendly weekend.

But she knew that was a lie. She had known it the moment she said yes.

She unzipped her duffel and pulled out her bikini. A tiny two-piece in emerald green that matched her eyes. She had bought it specifically for this trip. She stripped off her sundress and changed, then threw a sheer white cover-up over the top. She checked herself in the mirror. Her auburn hair fell in waves past her shoulders. Her green eyes sparkled with anticipation. The freckles across her nose stood out against her slightly tanned skin.

You look good, she told herself. You look ready.

She padded down the hall and through the living room. The French doors were open, letting in the warm breeze. She stepped onto the deck.

Marcus was already by the pool, pouring something from a pitcher into two glasses. He had taken off his t-shirt. He wore only swim trunks, navy blue, hanging low on his hips. His chest was broad and muscular, covered in a light dusting of gray hair that tapered down his stomach. A thin line of hair disappeared beneath the waistband of his trunks.

Kelly's mouth went dry.

He turned and saw her. His gaze traveled down her body, slow and deliberate. She felt it like a physical touch. Her skin tingled.

"There she is," he said, his voice a little rougher than before. "Thought you might want a margarita. Fresh squeezed."

"You're spoiling me."

"Someone should." He handed her a glass. His fingers brushed against hers. The contact sent a jolt through her arm.

She took a sip. Tart and sweet with a hint of salt. "This is amazing."

"I make a mean margarita." He gestured to one of the lounge chairs by the pool. "Sit. Tell me about school. How's junior year treating you?"

She settled into the chair, tucking her legs beneath her. He sat in the chair next to hers, close enough that she could smell his cologne. The sun was starting to dip toward the horizon, casting long shadows across the deck.

"School's good," she said. "Classes are tough but interesting. I'm thinking about switching my major to communications instead of business."

"Yeah? What brought that on?"

"I don't know. Business feels so corporate. Communications feels more creative. More me."

He nodded, taking a sip of his drink. "You always were the creative type. I remember those drawings you used to show Brooke. The ones of the cityscapes."

Kelly's cheeks flushed. "You remember that?"

"Of course I remember. They were good. Really good." He looked at her, his blue eyes intense. "You should pursue that. Don't let anyone talk you out of what makes you happy."

"Thanks, Marcus." She said his name deliberately, letting it roll off her tongue. She watched his jaw tighten slightly.

They fell into easy conversation. He asked about her classes and what she had planned for the summer. She asked about his architecture firm, the projects he was working on, how he was handling the empty nest now that Brooke was in college. He laughed easily, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

The margaritas went down smooth. The sun dipped lower. The air grew warm and heavy with humidity.

Kelly shifted in her chair, letting her cover-up slide off one shoulder. She caught him looking at the exposed skin. He didn't look away quickly. He let his gaze linger.

"So," she said, her voice dropping slightly, "are you seeing anyone?"

He raised an eyebrow. "That's a personal question."

"I'm a personal person."

He laughed, a low rumble. "No. No one special. Just work and the occasional dinner with friends."

"Really? A handsome guy like you? I find that hard to believe."

"Handsome, huh?" He leaned back in his chair, studying her. "And what do you know about handsome guys?"

"I know a thing or two." She twirled a strand of hair around her finger. "I know what I like."

"Is that so?"

"Mmhm."

The air between them thickened. His gaze dropped to her lips. She felt her pulse quicken.

His phone buzzed on the table between them. He glanced at it. "It's Brooke."

Kelly's stomach clenched. Guilt flooded through her, cold and sharp.

He picked up the phone and read the message. "She says hi. Wants to know if you made it okay."

"Tell her I'm fine." Kelly's voice came out steadier than she felt. "Tell her the house is beautiful."

He typed a quick response. Then another buzz. He laughed. "She says don't let her dad bore you with too many architecture stories."

"I don't think that's possible." Kelly met his gaze. "I find architecture fascinating."

His smile faltered for just a second. Something flickered in his expression. Desire tempered by caution, a silent warning he couldn't quite hide.

He cleared his throat. "More margarita?"

"I'm good for now." She set her glass down and stretched, arching her back slightly. The motion made her bikini top shift. She saw his gaze drop, then snap back up.

"It's getting late," he said, though the sun was still an hour from setting. "I should probably start thinking about dinner."

"I could help. If you want."

"I always appreciate a pretty sous chef."

His words hit her like a shot of whiskey. Warm and potent. She smiled slowly.

"Then let's cook."

They stood at the same time. He was close. So close she could see the flecks of silver in his eyes. She could feel the heat radiating off his body. Her hand brushed against his arm as she turned toward the house.

"Sorry," she whispered.

"Don't be." His voice was low, rough. "Don't apologize for touching me."

Her breath caught. She looked up at him. His face was serious now, the playfulness gone. Replaced by something hungry.

"Kelly." He said her name like a warning. Like a prayer.

"Yes?"

"We should be careful."

"Why?"

"Because." He stepped closer. His hand came up, his fingers brushing against her cheek. Featherlight. "Because I don't think I'm going to be very good at keeping my distance."

Her heart soared. She leaned into his touch, just slightly. "Who said I wanted you to?"

His jaw tightened. He pulled his hand away, but his gaze never left hers. "Come on. Let's get dinner started."

He turned and walked into the house. Kelly followed, her skin tingling where he had touched her. She watched the way his back muscles moved as he walked. The way his hips moved with that easy confidence.

She was in trouble. Deep, delicious trouble.

And she didn't want to be saved.

She was in trouble. Deep, delicious trouble.

And she didn't want to be saved.

The Garage Spark

The morning sun streamed through the guest room curtains, painting golden stripes across Kelly's bare legs. She stretched slowly, the memory of yesterday's poolside tension still humming beneath her skin. The way Marcus had looked at her. The accidental brushes of his hand. Those moments his gaze had lingered a beat too long on her body. All of it played on repeat in her mind.

She rolled onto her stomach and grabbed her phone. A text from Brooke glowed on the screen.

"Morning! How's the lake house? Dad treating you okay?"

Kelly's stomach flipped. She typed back quickly. "It's amazing. Your dad's been great. Made dinner last night."

The lie came easier than it should have. Marcus had ordered takeout. They'd eaten on the deck, watching the sunset, their conversation charged with unspoken electricity. He'd asked about her classes, her plans after graduation. She'd asked about his architecture firm, the houses he'd designed. All innocent on the surface. Neither of them had been fooled.

She pulled on a pair of cutoff shorts and a loose tank top, no bra underneath. The thin cotton barely hid her nipples. She wanted him to notice. She wanted him to struggle.

The smell of coffee led her to the kitchen. Marcus stood at the counter, his back to her, wearing a fitted polo shirt that stretched across his shoulders. He turned when he heard her footsteps, and his eyes dropped to her chest before snapping back up to her face.

"Morning, Riles." His voice was rough, like he hadn't slept well.

"Morning." She smiled, taking in the dark circles under his eyes. "You look tired."

"Couldn't sleep." He handed her a mug of coffee. His fingers brushed hers, and he pulled away quickly.

Kelly wrapped her hands around the warm ceramic and took a sip, watching him over the rim. "Me neither."

The silence stretched between them, thick and charged. Marcus cleared his throat and turned back to the counter, busying himself with the coffee maker.

"I noticed the cabinet hinge in the hall bathroom is loose," he said, his voice carefully casual. "I should fix it before it gets worse. You don't mind if I make some noise?"

"Of course not. Do you need help?"

He hesitated. "I could use an extra pair of hands to hold things steady."

Her heart raced. "I'm happy to help."

Marcus led her through the living room to the garage. He flipped a switch, and a single bare bulb flickered to life, casting long shadows across the space. The garage smelled like sawdust and motor oil, a distinctly masculine scent that made her knees weak. Tools lined the walls. A heavy wooden workbench dominated the center of the room.

"The hinge is in the bathroom cabinet," Marcus said, grabbing a screwdriver from the pegboard. "But I need to check if I have the right size screw first."

He opened a drawer filled with hardware and began sorting through it. Kelly leaned against the workbench, watching him. The dim light caught the gray in his hair, the strong line of his jaw.

"You know," she said, "I've always loved watching you work."

His hands stilled. "What do you mean?"

"At Brooke's birthday parties. You'd always be fixing something or building something. I used to watch you from across the room." She shrugged, trying to look casual. "You were always so focused. So in control."

Marcus set down the screwdriver and turned to face her fully. "Kelly..."

"I'm just saying." She pushed off from the workbench and took a step closer. "I noticed things. Even back then."

His jaw tightened. "You were a kid."

"I'm not a kid anymore."

"I know." His voice dropped low. "I know exactly how old you are."

She took another step. They were close enough now that she could smell his cologne, could see the pulse beating in his throat. "Then what's stopping you?"

"Brooke." The word came out strained. "You're her best friend. I'm her father."

"She doesn't have to know."

Marcus closed his eyes, and she saw the war playing out across his face. Restraint battling against desire. Guilt wrestling with need. When he opened them again, his gaze was dark and hungry.

"You don't know what you're asking for."

"Then show me."

He moved so fast she didn't have time to react. One moment he was a foot away, the next his body was pressed against hers, backing her up against the workbench. His hands gripped the edge on either side of her hips, caging her in.

"You're playing a dangerous game, Kelly."

"I know." She tilted her chin up, meeting his eyes. "I've been playing it for years."

"How long?"

"Since I was sixteen." The confession spilled out before she could stop it. "Brooke's sweet sixteen. You were grilling burgers, and you looked at me and smiled. I couldn't breathe."

Something shifted in his expression. The last wall of resistance crumbled. "Jesus Christ."

"I've wanted you for so long, Marcus." She reached up and touched his chest, feeling the solid muscle beneath the fabric. "I've dreamed about this."

His hand came up to cup her jaw, his thumb tracing across her bottom lip. "If we do this..."

"There's no going back." She finished the sentence for him. "I know."

"I won't be gentle."

"I don't want gentle."

He kissed her.

It wasn't soft or tentative. It was hungry and desperate, years of suppressed desire pouring out in a single crushing moment. His mouth claimed hers, his tongue sliding past her lips, tasting her. She moaned against him and fisted her hands in his shirt, pulling him closer until there was nothing between them but heat and friction.

Marcus lifted her onto the workbench, stepping between her legs. His hands roamed her thighs, sliding up to her hips, gripping her waist, finally settling on her breasts. He squeezed, and she gasped at the pressure, her nipples hardening against his palms through the thin cotton.

"No bra?" His voice was rough against her throat.

"I wanted you to see."

He groaned and dipped his head, kissing along her collarbone. "You're going to kill me."

"Good."

His hand slid under her tank top, palm flat against her stomach, moving higher. She arched into his touch, desperate for more. When his thumb brushed her nipple, she cried out, her back bowing off the workbench.

"Shh." He covered her mouth with his again, swallowing her sounds. His fingers found her other nipple, rolling it between his thumb and forefinger, tugging gently. She bucked against him, her core aching with need. She could feel him hard against her inner thigh, the thick length of him pressing through his shorts.

"Marcus, please."

"Please what?"

"I don't know. Just... please."

He pulled back, his chest heaving. His eyes were wild, pupils blown wide. "I want to take you right here on this workbench. I want to make you forget every other man you've ever touched."

"Then do it."

His mouth crashed into hers again, harder this time, more demanding. He bit her bottom lip, tugging it between his teeth before soothing the sting with his tongue. Kelly's hands found the hem of his polo, shoving it up, her palms finally meeting the hot skin of his stomach. His abs contracted under her touch, and a low growl rumbled through his chest.

"You have no idea," he muttered against her mouth, "how many times I've thought about this. How many nights I've imagined my hands on you."

"Tell me," she breathed.

"Every cold shower I took this week." He yanked her tank top over her head in one swift motion, and the warm garage air hit her bare skin. His gaze dropped to her breasts, full and heavy, her nipples puckered and pink. "Every time I caught you looking at me by the pool. Every time you bent over in those little bikinis."

He lowered his head and took one nipple into his mouth, his tongue swirling around the sensitive peak. Kelly cried out, her fingers tangling in his hair, holding him against her. He sucked hard, then nibbled, sending electric jolts straight to her core. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer, grinding against the hard ridge in his shorts.

"Marcus," she whimpered. "More. Please."

He switched to her other breast, his hand replacing his mouth on the first, rolling and pinching the wet nipple while his tongue worked the second. She was trembling now, her thighs squeezing around him, her hips rolling in a desperate rhythm.

His free hand slid down her stomach, popping the button of her shorts. He paused, looking up at her, his eyes dark with question.

"Yes," she said, answering before he could ask. "God, yes."

He unzipped her shorts and slipped his hand beneath the waistband of her panties. His fingers slid through her slick folds, and he groaned against her breast. "You're so wet. Jesus, Kelly, you're soaking."

"You made me wet." She gasped as his finger found her clit, circling it with slow, deliberate pressure. "You've been making me wet all week."

"I've been hard all week." He pressed harder, and her hips jerked. "Walking around my own house with a constant ache because I couldn't stop thinking about spreading you open and tasting you."

He slid one finger inside her, then two, curling them upward in a slow, devastating rhythm. Kelly's head fell back, a keening moan escaping her lips. He thrust his fingers deeper, his thumb still working her clit, and she felt the pressure building, coiling tight in her belly.

"That's it," he murmured, watching her face contort with pleasure. "Come for me, Kelly. Let me feel you."

"I'm close," she panted. "Don't stop, please don't stop."

His fingers moved faster, curling and thrusting, his thumb pressing circles against her swollen clit. She could hear how wet she was, the obscene sounds of his fingers sliding in and out of her, and it only made her hotter. She grabbed his shoulders, her nails digging into his skin.

"Marcus, I'm gonna..."

"Do it." His voice was a command, dark and rough. "Come on my hand. Now."

The orgasm hit her like a wave, crashing through her body in hot, pulsing waves. She clamped down on his fingers, her inner walls spasming, and cried out his name. He swallowed her scream with his mouth, kissing her through the aftershocks, his fingers still moving inside her, drawing out every last tremor.

When she finally went limp against the workbench, he withdrew his hand slowly, deliberately, and brought his fingers to his lips. He sucked them clean, his eyes never leaving hers.

"You taste even better than I imagined."

Kelly's breath came in ragged gasps. She reached for the waistband of his shorts, her fingers tracing the outline of his erection. "Your turn."

He groaned, his hips pressing forward into her touch. "Kelly..."

His phone rang.

The sharp electronic sound cut through the haze like a blade. Marcus froze. Kelly's heart stopped.

He pulled the phone from his pocket. The screen glowed with Brooke's name and a photo of her smiling face.

"Don't answer it," Kelly whispered.

"I have to." He stepped back, putting distance between them. His hand shook as he swiped to accept the call. "Hey, Brookie."

Kelly watched him, her body still humming with unspent desire. She could hear Brooke's voice through the speaker, bright and cheerful.

"Hey, Dad! Just checking in. How's Kelly doing?"

Marcus's eyes met Kelly's. Something raw and guilty flickered across his face. "She's fine. We're just... fixing a cabinet hinge."

"Oh, that old thing. It's been loose for months. Thanks for taking care of it."

"Of course." His voice was strained. "How's the internship?"

Kelly slid off the workbench. Her legs felt weak. She couldn't look at him, couldn't face the reality of what they'd almost done. Brooke's voice, so trusting, so unaware, felt like a physical weight pressing down on her chest.

"It's going great! My supervisor says I'm a natural. Hey, can I talk to Kelly for a sec?"

Marcus held out the phone. His hand was still trembling.

Kelly took it, forcing her voice to stay light. "Hey, Brookie!"

"Riles! I miss you so much. Are you having fun?"

"Yeah, it's great. Your dad's been a perfect host." The words tasted like ash in her mouth.

"Good. I was worried you'd be bored without me."

"Never. But I should let you get back to work. Talk later?"

"Definitely. Love you!"

"Love you too."

Kelly ended the call and handed the phone back to Marcus. Neither of them spoke. The garage felt smaller now, the heat between them replaced with cold reality.

"I should..." Marcus started.

"Yeah. Me too."

She turned and walked back into the house. Her legs carried her to the guest room, where she closed the door and leaned against it, pressing her hand to her mouth.

Her lips were still swollen from his kisses. Her body still ached for his touch, the orgasm he'd given her only sharpening her hunger rather than satisfying it. And somewhere in the back of her mind, a small voice whispered that she'd just crossed a line she could never uncross.

But when she closed her eyes, all she could feel was the heat of his mouth on hers, the strength of his hands claiming her body, the way he'd looked at her like she was the only woman in the world.

She wanted more.

And she hated herself for it.

A soft knock came at the door. She didn't answer. After a long moment, footsteps retreated down the hall.

Kelly crawled onto the bed and pulled her knees to her chest. Excitement warred with guilt, pulling her in opposite directions. She'd wanted this for so long. She'd fantasized about it, planned for it, thrown herself at him without hesitation.

But hearing Brooke's voice had shattered the fantasy.

This was real. This was her best friend's father. This was betrayal, pure and simple.

And yet.

She touched her lips, still tingling from his kiss. She thought about the way he'd looked at her, the hunger in his eyes, the tremor in his hands.

He wanted her just as badly.

That knowledge sent a thrill through her, sharp and electric. She was the one who'd broken through his control. She was the one who'd made him forget about consequences, about his daughter, about everything except the two of them in that garage.

Her phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number.

"I'm sorry. That shouldn't have happened."

She stared at the words, her heart pounding. Marcus had texted her. He'd saved her number at some point. The thought made her dizzy.

She typed back. "Don't be sorry."

Three dots appeared. Disappeared. Appeared again.

"We need to talk."

"I know."

"Tonight. After dark."

She bit her lip, a smile spreading across her face despite the guilt churning in her stomach. "I'll be there."

The dots appeared one last time. Then nothing.

Kelly set the phone down and stared at the ceiling. She should feel worse. She should feel ashamed. But all she felt was anticipation, hot and bright, burning away every doubt.

Tonight, she would see him again.

Tonight, they would finish what they'd started.

And God help her, she couldn't wait.

Midnight Waters

The old grandfather clock in the hallway had long since finished its chiming, the sound fading into the heavy silence of the lake house. Kelly lay on her back in the guest room, sheets twisted around her legs, her skin still buzzing from the memory of Marcus's mouth on hers in the garage.

Sleep wouldn't come. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the way he'd looked at her, that raw hunger in those blue eyes before he'd kissed her. The way his hands had gripped her waist like she might dissolve if he let go. And then Brooke's call had shattered everything, sending them scrambling apart like guilty teenagers caught behind the bleachers.

But they weren't teenagers. Marcus was a grown man with a daughter her age, and she was the one who'd pushed him into that kiss. The thought sent a thrill through her chest, sharp and electric.

She threw off the covers and padded to the window. The lake stretched out below, silver and black under the half-moon, perfectly still except for the faint ripple of night insects skimming the surface. The water looked cool and inviting, a private world waiting in the darkness.

Her heart hammered as she made a decision. She'd come here to seduce Marcus Carrol, and one interrupted kiss wasn't going to stop her.

Kelly rummaged through her suitcase until she found the bikini she'd packed specifically for this trip. Nothing like the modest one-pieces she usually wore around Brooke. This was a scrap of white fabric, barely enough to cover what mattered, with thin strings at the hips and a triangle top that would leave little to the imagination.

She slipped it on, adjusting the ties until everything sat exactly right. Her reflection in the mirror showed someone who looked older than nineteen, the curve of her breasts pressing against the thin fabric, the smooth line of her stomach leading down to the low cut of the bikini bottom. She ran her fingers through her auburn waves, letting them fall loose around her shoulders.

Perfect. Or at least, perfect enough to make Marcus Carrol forget all about being a good father.

She grabbed a towel from the bathroom and crept down the stairs, her bare feet silent on the wooden steps. The house was dark except for the moonlight pouring through the windows. She passed the living room, moved through the kitchen, and then stopped dead when she saw the sliding glass door to the deck was already open.

Her breath caught. Marcus stood at the edge of the deck, his back to her, looking out at the lake. He wore only a pair of dark swim trunks, his broad shoulders and back illuminated by the moon. The muscles in his arms flexed as he gripped the railing, and Kelly felt a pulse of heat between her thighs.

He must have heard her, because he turned slowly, his eyes finding her in the darkness. Even from here, she could see the way his gaze traveled down her body, lingering on the thin white fabric, the exposed skin, the way the moonlight caught the curve of her hips.

"Kelly." His voice was rough, strained. "It's late."

"I couldn't sleep." She stepped onto the deck, letting the towel dangle from her fingers. "Thought I'd go for a swim."

"In that?" He gestured at her bikini, and she caught the hint of a smile playing at the corner of his mouth.

"What's wrong with it?" She tilted her head, feigning innocence. "It's a swimsuit."

"Barely."

She laughed, the sound light and teasing. "You're one to talk, standing out here half-naked in the middle of the night."

He shook his head, but he didn't look away. "I was just getting some air. Couldn't sleep either."

"Then come swim with me." She didn't wait for his answer. She dropped the towel on a deck chair and walked down the steps to the dock, feeling his eyes on her the whole way.

The wooden planks were cool under her feet, rough from years of weather and use. At the end of the dock, she paused, looking back over her shoulder. Marcus hadn't moved from the deck, but his posture had changed, his hands now gripping the railing like he was physically holding himself back.

"You coming?" she called, her voice carrying across the still water.

He was silent for a long moment. Then he pushed off from the railing and walked toward her, his footsteps heavy on the wooden planks.

Kelly turned back to the lake and dove in before she could lose her nerve. The water was colder than she expected, shocking against her skin, but she surfaced with a gasp, laughing at the sensation. She floated on her back, looking up at the stars scattered across the sky, and waited.

The splash behind her told her he'd followed. She turned to see him cutting through the water with strong, efficient strokes, his body dark against the silver surface. When he reached her, he stopped, treading water just a few feet away.

"You're going to catch a cold," he said, but there was no real warning in his voice.

"Then you'll have to warm me up." She swam closer, closing the distance between them until she could feel the heat radiating off his body even through the cool water.

His hand found her waist under the surface, his fingers brushing the bare skin where the bikini bottom tied at her hip. "Kelly, we need to talk about what happened earlier."

"Do we?" She moved closer still, her legs brushing against his under the water. "I thought it was pretty clear."

"It can't happen again." But his hand tightened on her waist, pulling her closer instead of pushing her away.

"Then why are you holding me?" She looked up at him, her green eyes reflecting the moonlight. "Why did you follow me into the water?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he pulled her against him, his mouth finding hers in the darkness.

The kiss was different from the one in the garage. Slower, deeper, more deliberate. His tongue swept into her mouth, tasting her, claiming her, while his hands roamed her wet skin. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her body against his, feeling the hard planes of his chest through the cool water.

His hand slid down her back, cupping her ass through the thin fabric of her bikini bottom. She gasped against his mouth, arching into his touch. The water made everything slick, slippery, their bodies sliding together in a rhythm that felt as natural as breathing.

"Marcus," she whispered, her voice breaking. "I've wanted this for so long."

"How long?" His mouth moved to her throat, kissing the sensitive skin where her pulse beat wildly.

"Years. Since the first time Brooke brought me home for spring break." She tangled her fingers in his wet hair, pulling him closer. "I used to watch you across the dinner table, wondering what it would be like to have your hands on me."

He groaned, his grip tightening on her hips. "You're going to be the death of me, little one."

"Then die happy."

He laughed, a low, rough sound that vibrated against her skin. "You're something else, you know that?"

"I know." She pulled back just enough to look at him, her eyes dark with desire. "Now stop talking and kiss me again."

He obliged, his mouth claiming hers with renewed hunger. This time, there was no hesitation, no restraint. His hands were everywhere, sliding over her wet skin, tracing the curve of her waist, the swell of her hips, the line of her spine.

One hand drifted higher, cupping her breast through the thin fabric of her bikini top. His thumb found her nipple, already hard from the cold water, and circled it slowly through the wet material. She moaned into his mouth, her hips grinding against his under the water.

"I can feel how much you want this," he murmured against her lips. "How much you want me."

"I do." She reached down between them, her fingers finding the waistband of his trunks. "I want you, Marcus. All of you."

He caught her wrist, stopping her. "Not yet."

"Why not?" She looked up at him, frustration and desire warring in her chest.

"Because when I take you, I want to do it right. I want to take my time, to taste every inch of you, to make sure you remember exactly who you belong to." His voice was low, rough, sending shivers down her spine. "But tonight, I need to feel you."

Before she could ask what he meant, his hand slid down her stomach, slipping beneath the waistband of her bikini bottom. She gasped as his fingers found her, already slick and swollen with need.

"God, you're wet," he breathed, his forehead pressing against hers. "Is this all for me?"

"Yes," she whispered, her voice shaking. "All of it."

His finger circled her clit, slow and deliberate, tracing the sensitive bud with just enough pressure to make her squirm. She grabbed his shoulders, her nails digging into his skin as waves of pleasure radiated from his touch. The water lapped around them, cool against her heated skin, creating a contrast that made every nerve ending feel electric.

"That's it," he said, his voice a low rumble that she felt in her bones. "Let me feel you come undone."

He slipped a finger inside her, slow and careful, feeling her walls clench around him. She cried out, the sound swallowed by the night air, and he kissed her again, muffling her moans with his mouth. His tongue moved against hers in the same rhythm as his finger, thrusting and retreating, building a heat that spread through her belly and down to her toes.

He added a second finger, stretching her slowly, filling her in a way that made her see stars. She broke the kiss, throwing her head back, her wet hair trailing in the water behind her. His mouth found her throat, sucking gently at the skin beneath her ear while his fingers curled inside her, finding that spot that made her legs go weak.

"You're so tight," he groaned against her neck. "So perfect. So fucking perfect."

"More," she begged, her hips bucking against his hand. "Please, Marcus, I need more."

His thumb pressed against her clit while his fingers worked inside her, rubbing that spot over and over until she was trembling. The pleasure built in waves, each one higher than the last, cresting and breaking and building again. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling herself closer, trying to get more of him, more of his touch, more of everything.

"You feel so good," he murmured, his lips brushing her ear. "I've been thinking about this since the garage. About how you'd feel. How you'd sound."

"What did you imagine?" she breathed, her nails raking down his back.

"This. Exactly this. You falling apart in my hands." He curled his fingers harder, and she whimpered. "I thought about your face when you come. About the sounds you'd make."

"Now you know." She was barely coherent, her thoughts scattering like leaves in the wind.

"Now I know." He increased the pace, his fingers moving faster, deeper, his thumb working her clit in tight circles. The wet sounds of his hand between her legs were obscene in the quiet night, mingling with her ragged breathing and the soft splash of water against their bodies.

She could feel it building, that tension coiling in her core, tighter and tighter with each thrust of his fingers. Her thighs trembled around his waist, her body straining toward something just out of reach.

"Marcus, I'm close," she gasped, her voice breaking.

"I know, little one. I can feel you." He pressed his forehead against hers, his eyes dark and intent. "Come for me. Let go. I've got you."

And she did. The orgasm crashed over her like a wave, pulling her under, consuming her completely. She cried out his name, the sound echoing across the empty lake, as her body convulsed around his fingers. The pleasure pulsed through her in hot, intense waves, radiating from her core through her limbs, through every cell of her being. Her inner walls clamped down on his fingers, spasming again and again as he worked her through it, drawing out every last tremor.

He held her through it, his free arm wrapped around her waist, keeping her afloat as she trembled in the aftermath. She buried her face in his neck, breathing in the scent of lake water and soap and him, her body still pulsing with aftershocks.

"That was..." She couldn't find the words.

"I know." He kissed her temple, her cheek, the corner of her mouth. "I know."

They floated in silence for a long moment, their bodies tangled together in the dark water. The moon had shifted, casting silver shadows across the lake's surface. Crickets chirped from the shore, and somewhere in the distance, an owl called out.

"We can't tell anyone about this," Marcus said finally, his voice quiet but firm. "Brooke can't know."

Kelly's heart clenched at the mention of her best friend's name. "I know."

"This isn't a game, Kelly. If anyone found out, it would destroy her. It would destroy everything."

"I know." She pulled back to look at him, her eyes serious. "I'm not playing games, Marcus. I want this. I want you."

He studied her face, searching for something she couldn't name. "You're so young."

"I'm not a child."

"I know you're not." He cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs brushing her cheekbones. "That's what scares me."

"Then don't be scared." She covered his hands with hers. "Just be with me."

He kissed her again, softer this time, a promise rather than a demand. "We have to be careful."

"I can be careful."

"No one can know. Not your friends, not Brooke, not anyone."

"I understand."

He sighed, his breath warm against her lips. "And we need to set some boundaries."

"Like what?"

"Like no texting about this. No calling unless it's safe. No mentioning it around Brooke or anyone else."

She nodded, even as a part of her rebelled against the secrecy. "What else?"

"We take this slow. I don't want to rush you into something you're not ready for."

"I'm ready."

"I know you think you are." He smiled, a sad, knowing smile. "But there's more to this than just sex, Kelly. There are consequences."

"I know."

"Do you?" He tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his eyes. "If this goes wrong, you lose your best friend. I lose my daughter. We both lose everything."

"Then we don't let it go wrong." She kissed him, pouring all her certainty into the gesture. "We just keep it between us."

He kissed her back, and she felt the fight drain out of him, replaced by something softer, more vulnerable. "You're going to be the death of me."

"Maybe." She smiled against his lips. "But what a way to go."

He laughed, the sound echoing across the water. "Come on. We should get inside before we turn into icicles."

They swam back to the dock, their bodies moving in sync through the dark water. When they climbed out, the night air felt cold against their wet skin, and Kelly shivered despite herself.

Marcus wrapped his arm around her, pulling her against his warm body. "I told you you'd catch a cold."

"Worth it." She leaned into him, savoring the feeling of his arm around her, the solid warmth of his body against hers.

They walked back to the house in silence, their footsteps quiet on the wooden deck. At the sliding glass door, Marcus stopped, turning to face her.

"Get some sleep," he said, his voice soft. "We'll talk more tomorrow."

"Or we could do more than talk." She stood on her toes and kissed him, quick and light. "Goodnight, Marcus."

She slipped past him into the house, her heart racing, her body still humming from his touch. Behind her, she heard him exhale, a long, shaky breath that told her she'd affected him more than he wanted to admit.

As she climbed the stairs to her room, she couldn't stop the smile spreading across her face. She'd gotten what she wanted. But as she lay down in her bed, the sheets cool against her skin, she realized that what she wanted had changed.

It wasn't just about the thrill anymore. It wasn't just about proving she could have him.

She wanted Marcus Carrol, all of him, and she wasn't going to let anything stop her from having him.

Not even her best friend.

Kitchen Heat

The morning light cut through the guest room curtains in golden slants. Kelly lay still, her body humming with the memory of midnight water and Marcus's hands. She could still feel the ghost of his fingers between her thighs, the way he had brought her to the edge and pulled her back until she shattered against his palm.

She stretched, her toes curling against the cool sheets. The smell of bacon drifted up from downstairs. Coffee too. Her stomach flipped, but not from hunger.

Kelly pulled on a pair of black yoga pants and a loose gray tank top. No bra. The thin cotton barely hid her nipples, which tightened at the thought of seeing him. She ran her fingers through her tangled auburn hair, decided it looked appropriately mussed, and padded barefoot down the stairs.

Marcus stood at the stove, his back to her. He wore a simple white t-shirt that stretched across his broad shoulders and dark jeans that hugged his hips. The sight of him made her breath catch. He was flipping bacon with a spatula, completely unaware of her presence, and the domesticity of the scene hit her like a physical blow.

She wanted this. Not just the sex, though God knows that was enough to short-circuit her brain. She wanted mornings like this. She wanted to be the reason he cooked breakfast, the reason he smiled before coffee, the reason his hands reached for someone first thing.

Kelly leaned against the kitchen doorway. "Smells good."

He turned, and the look in his eyes sent a shiver down her spine. It was hunger. Raw and barely leashed. His gaze traveled from her face down to her chest, where her nipples were clearly visible through the thin fabric.

"Morning, little one." His voice was rough, like he hadn't slept either. "You sleep okay?"

"Not really." She stepped into the kitchen, her hips swaying slightly. "Kept thinking about last night."

Marcus set down the spatula. He turned off the stove. The sizzling stopped, and the silence stretched between them, thick and electric.

"I couldn't stop thinking about it either," he said. "You in that bikini, the way you felt against me. The sounds you made."

Kelly's cheeks flushed, but she didn't look away. "I wanted more."

"I know." He took a step toward her. Then another. "But I needed to stop. You're not just some girl, Kelly. You're Brooke's best friend. I had to be sure you knew what you were getting into."

"I've known what I wanted for years." The words came out before she could stop them. Her heart pounded, but she pushed forward. "I've had a crush on you since I was a freshman. Since the first time Brooke brought me here for a weekend."

Marcus's eyes widened. "How long?"

"Three years." She laughed, a shaky sound. "I used to make up excuses to come over. I'd ask Brooke if you were home, just so I could see you. I'd sit at your dinner table and imagine what it would be like to be yours."

He stared at her, his jaw tight. "Kelly..."

"I know it's wrong." She stepped closer, close enough to smell his cologne and the faint scent of bacon on his skin. "I know she's my best friend. I know I'm nineteen and you're forty-eight. I don't care. I've never cared."

His hand came up, his fingers brushing her cheek. The touch was featherlight, almost reverent. "You have no idea what you do to me."

"Show me."

The words hung between them. Marcus's eyes darkened. His hand slid from her cheek to the back of her neck, fingers tangling in her hair. He pulled her close, and his mouth crashed against hers.

This wasn't like the garage. That kiss had been hesitant, interrupted. This was claiming. His tongue swept into her mouth, tasting her, owning her. Kelly moaned and pressed her body against his, her hands fisting in his t-shirt.

He walked her backward until her hips hit the kitchen counter. The granite was cool against her heated skin. He lifted her onto it, the edge digging into her thighs as he stepped between her legs.

"You want this?" He pulled back, his forehead pressed against hers. "You want me to fuck you right here, in the middle of my kitchen?"

Kelly's breath came in ragged gasps. "Yes. God, yes."

"Tell me what you want." His hands slid under her tank top, palms flat against her stomach. "Tell me exactly what you've been dreaming about."

She looked into his eyes, blue and intense. "I want you to take me. I want to feel you inside me. I want to be yours, even if it's just for this weekend."

Marcus groaned. He pulled her tank top over her head, tossing it aside. His eyes roamed over her bare chest, her nipples hard and aching for his touch. He cupped one breast, his thumb dragging over the sensitive peak, watching her face as she bit her lip. Then he lowered his head and took the other in his mouth, his tongue circling slowly before he sucked gently.

Kelly arched into him, her fingers threading through his salt-and-pepper hair. "Marcus..."

His hand slid down her stomach, past the waistband of her yoga pants. His fingers found her slick and ready, and he let out a low growl. "You're so wet for me."

"I've been wet since I woke up," she admitted, her voice breathless. "Thinking about you."

He pulled his mouth from her breast and looked at her, his expression fierce. "I need to hear you say it. Say you're mine."

"I'm yours." The words felt right, even if they were dangerous. "I've always been yours."

Marcus stepped back just long enough to unbutton his jeans. He pushed them down, along with his boxers, and his cock sprang free, thick and hard. Kelly's mouth went dry at the sight of him. He was bigger than she'd imagined, and a rush of heat pooled between her thighs.

He stepped between her legs again, his hands gripping her hips. He pulled her yoga pants and underwear down just enough, exposing her to the cool morning air. The contrast between the cold counter and his hot hands made her shiver.

"Look at me," he commanded.

She obeyed, her green eyes locked on his blue ones. He positioned himself at her entrance, the tip of his cock pressing against her slick folds. He didn't push in. Not yet.

"This changes everything," he said, his voice low and serious. "Once I'm inside you, there's no going back. You understand that?"

Kelly nodded. "I know."

"Say it."

"I understand." She reached down and wrapped her hand around his shaft, guiding him to her entrance. "I don't want to go back. I want this. I want you."

He thrust forward in one smooth motion, filling her completely. Kelly gasped, her eyes fluttering closed as she adjusted to the stretch. He was bigger than she had imagined, and the feeling of being so full made her head spin.

Marcus groaned, his forehead dropping to her shoulder. "Fuck, Kelly. You feel incredible."

He held still for a moment, letting her body adjust to him. His hands gripped her hips, his thumbs stroking small circles against her skin. Then he started to move, slow and deep. Each thrust pushed her back against the counter, the granite cool against her bare skin.

"Look at me," he said again.

She opened her eyes. His face was inches from hers, his expression intense. He was watching her, watching the way she took him, the way her body responded to his.

"I've wanted this for so long," she whispered, her voice breaking. "I used to lie in bed at night and touch myself, thinking about you."

Marcus's pace quickened. "Tell me more."

"I'd imagine you finding me. Taking me. Making me yours." Her nails dug into his shoulders as he drove deeper. "I'd imagine you calling me your little girl."

He groaned, his rhythm becoming erratic. "You are my little girl. Say it."

"I'm your little girl."

"Mine." He thrust harder, the sound of their bodies slapping together filling the kitchen. "Say you're mine."

"I'm yours." Tears pricked at her eyes, but they weren't from sadness. It was the intensity, the overwhelming feeling of being claimed. "I'm yours, Marcus. I've always been yours."

He reached between them, his thumb finding her clit. He pressed down in circles, matching the rhythm of his thrusts. Kelly felt the pressure building, a coil tightening in her belly.

"Come for me," he growled. "I want to feel you come around my cock."

The command pushed her over the edge. She cried out, her back arching as the orgasm ripped through her. Her walls clenched around him, and Marcus followed a moment later, his body shuddering as he spilled inside her.

He collapsed against her, his breath hot against her neck. They stayed like that, tangled together on the kitchen counter, the morning light streaming in around them.

Kelly's heart pounded. Her body hummed with satisfaction. But as the fog of pleasure cleared, reality crept back in.

She looked over his shoulder and saw a photo on the fridge. Brooke's smiling face, her arm slung around Kelly's shoulders from last year's spring break. The guilt hit her like a cold wave.

Marcus must have felt her tense. He pulled back, his eyes searching hers. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." She tried to smile. "Just... that was incredible."

He cupped her face, his thumb brushing her cheek. "I know. But I can see it in your eyes. The guilt."

Kelly's chin trembled. "I can't help it. She's my best friend."

"I know." He kissed her forehead, soft and tender. "I feel it too. But I can't stop wanting you, Kelly. I don't think I want to."

She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close. "I don't want to stop either."

"Then we don't." He pulled back, his eyes serious. "But we have to be careful. If Brooke finds out..."

"She won't." Kelly shook her head. "I'll make sure she doesn't."

Marcus helped her off the counter. He handed her the tank top, and she pulled it over her head. The fabric was rough against her sensitive skin.

He turned back to the stove, flipping the burner back on. "You hungry?"

Kelly laughed, a genuine sound this time. "Starving."

He smiled at her over his shoulder, and for a moment, everything felt right. The guilt was still there, lurking in the corners of her mind. But so was the thrill. The secret. The forbidden heat of being his.

She sat down at the kitchen table, watching him cook. The morning light caught the gray in his hair, the strong line of his jaw. He was hers, even if only for now.

And she was going to savor every single moment.

Stolen Moments

The morning sun filtered through the tall pines surrounding the lake house, casting long shadows across Kelly's bed. She stretched slowly, her body still humming from the night before. Every muscle remembered Marcus's hands, his mouth, the way he'd taken her on the kitchen counter like she belonged to him.

She smiled at the ceiling. She'd never felt anything like that before. Not with any of the boys at college who fumbled with bra straps and came too fast. Marcus had been deliberate, patient, almost surgical in the way he'd taken her apart.

Her phone buzzed on the nightstand. Brooke's name flashed across the screen.

Kelly's stomach tightened. She grabbed the phone and answered with her best cheerful voice. "Hey, Brookie! How's the internship?"

"Exhausting but amazing. I'm learning so much. How's the lake house? Dad treating you okay?"

"Yeah, it's great. Your dad's been super nice. Made me breakfast yesterday." The lie came easier now. "The house is so peaceful. I've been reading by the water, going for walks."

"Good. I'm glad you're relaxing. Hey, I might try to video call later tonight. I want to see the place. I'm getting homesick."

Kelly's heart skipped. "Sure, just text me first so I'm decent."

They talked for a few more minutes before Brooke had to go. Kelly set the phone down and exhaled slowly. The guilt was there, a dull ache behind her ribs, but the excitement drowned it out. She was playing a dangerous game and she knew it. But she couldn't stop.

She dressed in hiking shorts and a tank top, tied her auburn hair into a high ponytail, and padded downstairs. Marcus stood at the kitchen counter, pouring coffee into two mugs. He wore a fitted gray t-shirt and hiking pants, and the sight of him made her breath catch.

"Morning, little one." His voice was rough with sleep. "Thought we could get out of the house today. Take a hike up to the ridge. There's a view you won't forget."

"Sounds perfect." She took the coffee he offered, their fingers brushing. The contact sent a jolt through her. "Just us?"

"Just us." His eyes held hers. "I know a trail that's pretty secluded. No one goes there but me."

Before long they were in his truck, winding through narrow forest roads. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth. Marcus drove with one hand on the wheel, the other resting on her thigh. His thumb traced lazy circles through the thin fabric of her shorts.

"You're quiet this morning," he said.

"Just thinking." She watched the trees blur past. "About last night. About everything."

"Regrets?"

"No." She turned to look at him. "No regrets. Just trying to figure out what this means. What we're doing."

He squeezed her thigh. "We're exploring something. Something I've wanted for longer than I should admit."

"How long?"

He was quiet for a moment. "Since the first time Brooke brought you home for spring break. You were wearing a yellow sundress. You laughed at something I said and I felt like I couldn't breathe."

Kelly's chest tightened. "I had no idea."

"You weren't supposed to. You were her friend. You were nineteen. I was a divorced dad trying to keep my shit together." He pulled the truck into a small clearing and killed the engine. "But here we are."

"Here we are." She leaned over and kissed his cheek. "I'm glad we are."

The trail was steep and rocky, winding through dense forest before opening onto a granite outcropping that overlooked the entire valley. The lake glittered far below, surrounded by endless green. Kelly stopped at the edge, arms spread wide, letting the wind pull at her clothes.

"This is incredible."

Marcus came up behind her, his chest pressing against her back. His hands settled on her hips. "I used to come here when I needed to think. After the divorce. When Brooke was struggling. It helped."

"What do you think about now?"

"You." His lips brushed her ear. "How soft your skin is. How you taste. How I can't get enough of you."

She leaned back into him, her head resting against his shoulder. "I feel the same. It's like you're under my skin."

His hands slid up her sides, thumbs brushing the undersides of her breasts through her tank top. "I want to teach you something."

"What?"

"How to let go. How to trust me completely." He turned her around to face him. "Can you do that, Kelly? Can you surrender control for a little while?"

She looked into his blue eyes, saw the seriousness there. "I think so."

"Good." He took her hand and led her to a flat area of mossy ground, shaded by an overhanging pine. "Lie down."

She obeyed, stretching out on the soft moss. The earth was cool beneath her, the air warm above. Marcus knelt beside her, his presence blocking out the sky.

"Close your eyes."

She did. Her heart was pounding, but not with fear. With anticipation.

"I'm going to touch you," he said, his voice low and steady. "And I want you to focus only on what you feel. Nothing else. No thoughts about Brooke or guilt or worry. Just my hands on your skin."

His fingers found the hem of her tank top and slid beneath it, tracing the waistband of her shorts. His touch was light, almost teasing, moving in slow circles across her stomach. Kelly's breath hitched.

"That's it," he murmured. "Just breathe."

His hands moved higher, pushing the fabric up, his palms skimming over her ribs. He cupped her breasts through her bra, squeezing gently, then tracing the lace edges with his fingertips. He found her nipples already hard beneath the thin fabric and rolled them between his thumbs and forefingers, pinching just hard enough to make her gasp. A soft moan escaped her lips.

"You like that?"

"Yes."

"Tell me what you want."

"I want you to touch me. Really touch me."

His hands left her breasts and moved to the button of her shorts. He unfastened it slowly, pulled the zipper down tooth by tooth, and slid the shorts over her hips. Her panties were soaked through, the cotton clinging to her.

"Open your eyes."

She did. He was looking at her with an intensity that made her feel exposed and desired all at once.

"I'm going to show you what it means to be patient," he said. "To build the pleasure instead of rushing toward it."

He leaned down and kissed her stomach, just above her panties. Then lower, pressing his mouth to the damp fabric, breathing warm air against her. Kelly's hips bucked involuntarily.

"Stay still." His voice was firm. "Don't move."

She forced herself to lie still as he hooked his fingers into the waistband of her panties and pulled them down her legs, trailing his fingertips along the inside of her thighs as he went. The cool mountain air hit her wet skin and she shivered.

He spread her legs gently, positioning himself between them. "You're beautiful like this. Open. Trusting." He ran a finger through her folds, collecting her moisture, then brought it to his lips and tasted it. "So wet for me."

"Marcus, please."

"Please what?"

"Touch me. I need you."

He lowered his head and licked her, a long, slow stroke from her entrance to her clit. Kelly gasped, her hands fisting in the moss. He did it again, slower this time, circling her clit with the tip of his tongue before sucking it gently between his lips. She whimpered, fighting the urge to grind against his face.

"Oh God."

He worked her with his mouth, building a rhythm that was agonizingly slow. His tongue traced patterns around her clit, then dipped lower, pushing inside her just barely before sliding back up. He added a finger, curling it against her front wall while his tongue flicked her clit in measured strokes. Every time she got close to the edge, he pulled back, easing off until she was calm again. Then he'd start over, pushing her higher, then backing away.

"Marcus, I can't. I need to come."

"Not yet." He lifted his head, his beard glistening with her arousal. "You come when I say you can."

He flipped her onto her stomach, pulling her hips up so she was on her hands and knees. The position felt vulnerable, exposed, her bare ass in the air while the breeze tickled her wet folds. His hand came down on her bare ass with a sharp crack that echoed through the trees.

Kelly yelped, more surprised than hurt. The sting bloomed into heat that spread straight between her legs.

"Count," he said.

"What?"

"Count each one. Out loud."

His hand came down again, harder this time, on the opposite cheek. "One."

Again, lower, where her thigh met her ass. "Two."

Again, the sharp slap ringing through the quiet forest. "Three."

By the time he reached ten, her ass was pink and warm, the heat radiating through her entire body, and she was wetter than she'd ever been, dripping down her inner thighs. He ran his hand over the heated skin, soothing the sting, then dipped his fingers between her legs, gathering her wetness and groaning at how soaked she was.

"Good girl." His voice was rough with approval. "You took that so well."

She heard him unzip his pants, heard the rustle of fabric. He positioned himself behind her, his cock pressing against her entrance, the thick head sliding through her slickness, teasing her with the promise of fullness. "This is what I want. You on your knees for me. Taking what I give you."

He pushed inside her in one smooth motion, filling her completely, stretching her until she thought she might split apart. Kelly cried out, her arms buckling. He gripped her hips and began to move, slow and deep, each thrust hitting a spot deep inside that made stars burst behind her eyes. She could feel every inch of him, the ridges, the veins, the way he pulsed inside her.

"You're mine," he growled. "Say it."

"I'm yours."

"Say it again."

"I'm yours, Marcus. I'm yours."

He pulled almost all the way out, the cool air rushing against her wet skin for a moment before he slammed back in, hard enough to push her forward. He set a brutal rhythm, each thrust driving her into the moss, his balls slapping against her clit. She braced herself against the ground, pushing back to meet him, desperate to take him deeper.

He reached around and found her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he fucked her. The dual stimulation was too much, his thick cock filling her while his fingers worked her most sensitive spot. She felt herself climbing, her body tensing, her walls clenching around him.

"Please," she begged. "Please let me come."

"Come for me, little one. Let go."

She shattered, her orgasm ripping through her in waves that made her whole body shake. She screamed into the moss, her pussy clenching and releasing around him in spasms as Marcus kept thrusting, prolonging her pleasure until she thought she might pass out. His own release followed moments later, his cock swelling inside her as he pulled out and spilled onto her lower back, hot ropes of cum splashing against her skin. His breath was ragged, his grip on her hips bruising.

They lay there for a long moment, breathing hard. Then he pulled her into his arms, holding her against his chest, the moss cool against her heated skin.

"You did so good," he whispered. "So perfect."

She turned her head to look at him. "I've never felt like this before."

"Neither have I." He kissed her forehead. "And that scares the hell out of me."

They hiked back to the truck in comfortable silence, hands intertwined. The afternoon sun was warm on their skin. Marcus drove them to a small town a half hour from the lake, a place with a main street lined with antique shops and a diner with a neon sign.

"Are you sure this is safe?" Kelly asked as they parked. "What if someone sees us?"

"No one knows me here. I've never brought Brooke to this town. It's just a place I found one day when I needed to get away." He squeezed her hand. "Tonight, we're just two people having dinner. Nothing more."

The diner was cozy, with red vinyl booths and a jukebox playing old country songs. They ordered burgers and milkshakes, and for an hour, Kelly let herself pretend. Pretend they were a normal couple. Pretend there was no Brooke, no secret, no guilt.

Marcus told her about his work, the houses he'd designed, the ones that had won awards. She told him about her classes, her dreams of traveling, the places she wanted to see.

"I want to take you somewhere," he said, his voice low. "When this is all over. Somewhere no one knows us."

"When what's over?"

"When you graduate. When things settle down. I want to take you to Paris. Or Rome. Somewhere beautiful."

Her heart ached. "Marcus, that's..."

"I know. It's crazy. But I don't care." He reached across the table and took her hand. "I'm falling for you, Kelly. And I don't know what to do about it."

She opened her mouth to respond, but her phone buzzed on the table. Brooke's name flashed across the screen. Then a video call request appeared.

"Shit." Kelly's blood ran cold. "It's Brooke."

Marcus's face went still. "Don't answer it."

"I have to. She'll get suspicious if I don't." Kelly looked around the diner. "I need to go to the bathroom."

She grabbed her phone and rushed to the small restroom at the back of the diner. She locked the door, took a deep breath, and answered the call.

"Hey, Brookie!" Her voice was too bright, too high. She leaned against the sink, trying to look casual.

Brooke's face appeared on the screen, tired but smiling. "Hey! I told you I'd call. Where are you? That doesn't look like the lake house."

"Oh, I went into town for dinner. Just a little diner I found. Got tired of cooking."

"Which town?"

Kelly's mind raced. "Um, I don't remember the name. Just some little place. You know how these back roads are."

Brooke's eyes narrowed slightly. "Alone?"

"Yeah, of course. Why would I be with anyone?" Kelly laughed, but it sounded hollow. "Your dad's back at the house. I needed some alone time."

"Huh." Brooke was quiet for a moment. "Okay. Well, I just wanted to see your face. I miss you."

"I miss you too." The words tasted like ash. "We'll hang out when you get back. I promise."

"You better. Hey, tell my dad I said hi. And that he better be feeding you properly."

"I will. Talk to you soon."

Kelly ended the call and leaned over the sink, her hands shaking. That was too close. Way too close.

She splashed water on her face and composed herself before returning to the table. Marcus looked at her with concern.

"Everything okay?"

"Yeah. She bought it." Kelly slid back into the booth. "But Marcus, we have to be more careful. She's going to get suspicious."

"I know." He ran a hand through his hair. "I know."

They finished their meal in subdued silence. The magic of the afternoon had been replaced by the cold reality of what they were doing. Kelly stared out the window at the darkening street, wondering how something so beautiful could feel so dangerous.

Back at the lake house, Marcus pulled her into his arms the moment they were through the door. "I'm sorry," he murmured into her hair. "I'm sorry this is so complicated."

"Don't be sorry." She pressed her face into his chest. "I knew what I was getting into."

"Did you? Because I don't think either of us knew how deep this would go."

She looked up at him. "I don't regret it. Any of it."

"Neither do I." He kissed her, soft and slow. "But we need to be smarter. More careful."

"I know." She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him again. "But not tonight. Tonight, I just want to be with you."

He scooped her up and carried her to his bedroom, laying her down on the king-sized bed. The moonlight streamed through the window, casting silver patterns across the sheets.

"I want to memorize every inch of you," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Every freckle. Every curve. Every sound you make."

He undressed her slowly, kissing each piece of skin as it was revealed. He lifted her tank top over her head and pressed his lips to her collarbone, then the swell of her breasts. He unhooked her bra with practiced ease and let it fall away, taking one nipple into his mouth while his hand caressed the other, rolling and pinching gently until she arched beneath him. When she was naked beneath him, he traced the lines of her body with his fingertips, learning her by touch.

"You're so beautiful," he whispered. "I can't believe you're real."

She pulled him down to her, wrapping her legs around his waist. "Make love to me, Marcus. Like you mean it."

He shed his own clothes quickly, then entered her slowly, his eyes locked on hers. The pace was different this time, tender instead of urgent. He moved in long, deliberate strokes, pulling almost all the way out before sinking back in to the hilt. Each thrust was a declaration. Each kiss was a promise. His hands cradled her face, his thumbs stroking her cheekbones as he moved inside her.

Kelly felt tears prick at her eyes. This wasn't just sex anymore. This was something deeper. Something that terrified her.

He brought her to climax with his body and his words, whispering how much he wanted her, how much he needed her, how she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen. He reached between them and pressed his thumb against her clit, rubbing in slow circles that matched the rhythm of his hips. She felt the pressure building, different from before, slower, starting in her chest and spreading outward until her whole body was trembling. She came undone beneath him, crying out his name as the pleasure washed over her like a tide, her walls clenching around him in rhythmic pulses.

He followed moments later, burying his face in her neck as he spilled inside her, his cock twitching with each pulse. They held each other in the aftermath, sweaty and breathless, his softening length still inside her.

"I don't know what happens next," she whispered into the darkness. "But I know I don't want this to end."

He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Neither do I, little one. Neither do I."

They lay tangled together as the night deepened, the weight of their secret pressing down on them both. Somewhere out there, Brooke was sleeping, trusting them both. And here they were, wrapped in each other's arms, falling deeper into a love that could destroy everything.

But for now, in this stolen moment, none of that mattered. All that mattered was the warmth of his body against hers, the steady beat of his heart beneath her ear, and the terrifying, exhilarating knowledge that she was in too deep to ever climb back out.

Party Risk

The lake house hummed with voices and music by the time Saturday's midday sun beat down on the roof. Kelly stood at the kitchen island, slicing limes for the margarita pitcher, her sundress sticking to her skin in the July heat. At least twenty guests filled the rooms downstairs, a mix of colleagues from Marcus's architecture firm, neighbors from across the lake, and a handful of Brooke's old high school friends who still lived in the area. Everyone laughed and drank and talked over each other, and Kelly smiled through every conversation while her pulse hammered beneath her ribs.

Marcus moved through the crowd like a ship captain. He pressed palms, refilled drinks, threw his head back in that deep laugh she could feel in her own chest. Every time their eyes met, something electric passed between them, a secret current that made her toes curl inside her sandals. He wore a white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his forearms tanned and strong, and she watched him from across the room and thought about how those arms had held her down against his kitchen counter just days ago.

"Kelly, you're making those limes cry."

She blinked and looked down. She had sliced the same lime five times, reducing it to green mush on the cutting board. Heat flooded her cheeks. "Sorry. Got distracted."

Linda, one of Marcus's colleagues, laughed and took the knife from her hand. "Go enjoy yourself, honey. You've been helping all morning."

Kelly forced a smile and slipped away from the kitchen, weaving through the crowd toward the back deck. The lake sparkled under the afternoon sun, boats bobbing at the dock, guests floating on inflatable loungers in the water. She found a quiet corner near the railing and pulled out her phone.

Three texts from Brooke.

Hey! How's the party going?

Did Dad remember to buy enough ice?

Send me pics! I miss the lake.

Kelly's stomach twisted. She typed back quickly: Party's great. Your dad's the perfect host. Tons of ice. Miss you too. She snapped a photo of the lake and sent it, then shoved the phone into her pocket before she could overthink the guilt blooming in her chest.

"Hiding from the crowd?"

The voice came from behind her, low and warm. She turned to find Marcus standing just inside the screen door, a beer in his hand, his eyes fixed on her with an intensity that made her breath catch.

"Just needed a minute," she said.

He stepped outside, letting the screen door close softly behind him. The deck stretched long and empty on this side, the party noise muffled by the glass doors. He leaned against the railing beside her, close enough that she could smell his cologne mixed with the clean sweat on his skin.

"You look beautiful today."

The simple words hit her harder than any dirty talk. She glanced up at him, at the way the sun caught the gray in his hair, the lines around his eyes. "You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Carrol."

His hand found hers on the railing, fingers interlacing, brief and hidden. "I can't stop thinking about you."

"Good." She squeezed his hand before pulling away, the risk too high with guests everywhere. "Me neither."

Someone called his name from inside. He straightened, his expression shifting back to host mode in an instant. "Later," he murmured, and then he was gone, disappearing back into the crowd.

Kelly stayed on the deck for a while, letting the breeze cool her skin. Her body hummed with want, with the thrill of the secret, with the danger of wanting him in a house full of people who had no idea what she and Marcus had done. What she planned to do again.

The afternoon stretched into evening. Someone started a fire pit in the backyard. Music shifted from indie rock to something slower, smokier. Kelly drank one margarita, then switched to water, keeping her head clear. She watched Marcus work the room, watched the way women his age smiled at him, touched his arm, leaned in close. Jealousy flickered hot in her chest, irrational and sharp.

He caught her eye from across the fire pit. His gaze dropped to her lips, then back up. A question. A promise.

She excused herself to use the bathroom.

Instead, she slipped up the stairs.

The second floor was quiet, the party noise reduced to a distant thrum. She knew which room was his, had memorized the layout of the house during her first visit. The master bedroom at the end of the hall, double doors, a balcony overlooking the lake. She pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The room smelled like him. Leather and cedar with something clean underneath. A king bed dominated the space, made perfectly with dark sheets. His watch sat on the nightstand. A half-empty glass of whiskey on the dresser. She ran her fingers over the fabric of his robe hanging on the back of the door, and her thighs pressed together.

She didn't have to wait long.

The door opened, and Marcus slipped inside, locking it behind him. His chest rose and fell with quickened breath, his eyes dark and hungry. "You shouldn't be here."

"Then send me away."

He crossed the room in three strides and crushed his mouth against hers.

The kiss was different from before. Desperate. Hungry. He backed her against the wall, his body pressing hers into the cool plaster, his hands sliding down her sides, gripping her hips. She moaned into his mouth and he swallowed the sound, his tongue sweeping against hers, demanding and deep. His teeth caught her lower lip, tugging gently, and she felt the pull straight between her legs.

"Everyone's downstairs," he breathed against her lips.

"I know."

"If someone comes looking for me..."

"Then we'll have to be quiet."

His laugh was rough, almost pained. "You're going to kill me, little one."

She reached down and palmed him through his jeans, feeling how hard he already was, the thick length of him straining against the denim. She rubbed her palm along the shaft and his hips jerked forward. "Not before I have my fun."

He groaned and captured her wrist, pinning it above her head. "No. Tonight, I'm in charge."

The shift in his voice sent a shiver down her spine. She nodded, breathless, and let him take control.

He turned her around, pressing her chest against the wall, her hands flat on the surface. His body lined up behind hers, his hardness pressing into her ass through their clothes. She could feel every inch of him against her, and she arched her back, pushing into him. He gathered her sundress in his fists, pulling it up, baring her thighs, her lace panties.

"You wore these for me." It wasn't a question.

"Yes."

His fingers traced the elastic edge of her panties, teasing, dipping beneath the fabric and then retreating. She whimpered, her hips chasing his hand. "You wanted me to take them off you tonight."

"Yes, Marcus."

"Say it."

"I want you to fuck me while your friends drink downstairs."

His breath hitched. His hand came down on her ass, a sharp slap that made her gasp. The sting bloomed into heat, spreading through her. "That's my girl."

He pulled her panties down, letting them fall to her ankles. She stepped out of them, spreading her legs wider, presenting herself to him. The position felt vulnerable and powerful at the same time, her body open to him, waiting. Cool air brushed her exposed skin, and she shivered.

He didn't touch her right away. She heard him step back, heard the quiet appreciation in his breathing. "Look at you," he said, his voice thick. "So wet already. I can see it from here."

She pressed her forehead against the wall and let out a shaky breath. His hand came down again on her ass, lighter this time, then rubbed the spot where he'd spanked her, soothing and possessive. His fingers traced the curve of her cheek, then dipped between her thighs, sliding through her slick heat.

"God, Kelly. You're soaked."

"You made me that way."

He pushed one finger inside her, slow and deliberate, curling it against the front wall of her cunt. Her knees buckled, and she grabbed the doorframe for support. He added a second finger, stretching her open, his thumb finding her clit and pressing in a slow circle. She bit down on her lip to keep from moaning too loud.

"You have to be quiet," he reminded her, his fingers still moving, still building. "Can you do that for me?"

"I'll try."

"No. Tell me you can."

"I can. I can be quiet for you."

He rewarded her with a third finger, filling her, his thumb working her clit in tight, maddening circles. She could hear how wet she was, the obscene sounds of his fingers sliding in and out of her, and it only made her more desperate. She pushed back against his hand, chasing the pressure, and he withdrew.

She heard him unzip his jeans, the sound loud in the quiet room. The rustle of a condom wrapper. His harsh breathing. Then his hands gripped her hips, steadying her, and the broad head of his cock pressed against her entrance.

He pushed inside her, slow and thick and perfect. Inch by inch, stretching her open around him. She bit her lip to keep from crying out. He filled her completely, the pressure deep and overwhelming, and she had already learned to crave the way he felt buried inside her. He paused once he was fully seated, his forehead pressing against the back of her head.

"God, Kelly." His voice was wrecked. "You feel like heaven."

She pushed back against him, a silent plea. He withdrew almost completely, leaving her empty for one aching moment, then slid back in to the hilt. The fullness hit something deep inside her that made her knees buckle, and he tightened his grip, keeping her upright.

He began to move. The rhythm was different from their other times. Slower at first, deeper, each thrust a deliberate claim. He kept one hand on her hip and the other splayed across her stomach, holding her against him so she could feel every inch of him as he pulled out and pushed back in. The angle was devastating, the head of his cock dragging against that spot inside her with every stroke.

"That's it," he murmured against her ear. "Take it. Take all of it."

She pressed her forehead to the wall, her eyes closed, lost in the sensation. The sounds of the party drifted up from below, laughter and music and the clink of glasses, and the danger of it made everything sharper, more intense. Anyone could walk up those stairs. Anyone could knock on that door.

And here she was, being fucked by her best friend's father.

The guilt and pleasure tangled together, impossible to separate. She didn't want to separate them.

He pulled almost all the way out, then drove back in hard, and she had to clamp her hand over her mouth to muffle the cry. He did it again, setting a new rhythm, harder and faster, each thrust punctuated by the slap of his hips against her ass. The wet sounds of their bodies meeting filled the room, louder than the distant party below.

"You feel so good," he growled against her neck. "So tight. So perfect."

"Marcus, please."

"Please what?"

"Don't stop. Please don't stop."

His hand slid from her stomach up to her breast, palming it through her sundress, pinching her nipple through the thin fabric. She arched into his hand, pushing herself back onto him, and he groaned low in his throat. His other hand slid down from her hip to her clit, and he began rubbing in tight circles that matched his rhythm.

The orgasm built slowly at first, a tightening in her core that spread outward. She could feel him getting harder inside her, feel his rhythm losing its control, his breathing ragged against her neck. He was close. The knowledge that she was pushing him over the edge sent her higher.

"I'm close," he said, his voice strained. "You close?"

"Yes, don't stop, right there, right there..."

He rubbed her clit faster, his thrusts growing erratic, pounding into her. The orgasm hit her like a wave, sudden and overwhelming, her whole body clenching and shuddering. She clamped her hand over her mouth, her cry muffled to a whimper. She clenched around him, pulsing, and he followed a moment later, his groan low and guttural, his body shuddering against hers as he buried himself deep and held there, spilling into the condom.

They stayed like that for a long moment, breathing hard, sweat cooling on their skin. He pulled out slowly, and she felt the loss of him like a physical ache. She heard him dispose of the condom in the bathroom, then he came back to her, wrapping his arms around her from behind, his lips pressing kisses to her bare shoulder.

"We have to go back down," she whispered.

"I know."

"Someone's going to notice we're both gone."

He turned her around, cupping her face in his hands. His eyes were soft, vulnerable in a way she rarely saw. "Come back tonight. After everyone leaves."

"I will."

He kissed her forehead, then her lips, gentle and sweet. "I'm falling for you, Kelly."

The words hit her like a punch to the chest. Before she could respond, he was gone, slipping out the door and back down the stairs, leaving her alone in his bedroom with her heart racing and her mind spinning.

She fixed her dress, smoothed her hair, checked her reflection in the mirror. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips swollen, her eyes bright with secrets. She looked like a girl who had just been thoroughly fucked. She needed to look like a girl who had used the bathroom.

She splashed water on her face, took a few deep breaths, and went back downstairs.

The party continued, oblivious. Someone handed her a fresh drink. She smiled and sipped it and found Marcus across the room, talking to a group of colleagues, his composure perfectly restored. He didn't look at her. Neither of them could afford to.

But her phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, expecting a text from him.

Instead, it was Brooke.

Hey, can you call me when you get a chance? Something weird is going on.

Kelly's blood turned to ice. She stared at the screen, the words blurring. She typed back, forcing her fingers to move: What do you mean?

Brooke's response came a moment later: I don't know. Just a feeling. Call me later. Love you.

Kelly shoved the phone back into her pocket. Her hands were shaking. She looked up and found Marcus watching her, a question in his eyes. She gave a small shake of her head, a warning, and watched his jaw tighten.

The party raged on around them, bright and loud and full of laughter. But beneath it all, something was shifting. The ground was cracking beneath their feet.

And Kelly had no idea how much longer they could keep from falling through.

Confessions

The final guest finally made their unsteady exit, laughter trailing behind them into the night. Kelly stood in the living room, surrounded by scattered cups and abandoned wine glasses, her body still humming from Brooke's near-miss video call. Marcus appeared behind her, his hands settling on her shoulders with a weight that felt like both anchor and accusation.

"We need to talk," he said, his voice low and rough.

Kelly turned to face him. The dim light caught the silver in his hair, the worry lines around his eyes she had never noticed before. He looked older tonight. He looked like someone carrying a secret too heavy to hold alone.

"I know," she whispered.

He took her hand and led her through the house, past the guest room where she was supposed to be sleeping, up the stairs to his master bedroom. The room smelled like him, cedar and clean linen with something darker underneath. She had been in here before, during the party, when they had fucked while his friends drank wine downstairs. But this felt different. This felt like stepping into a confessional.

Marcus sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her down beside him. He didn't touch her right away. He stared at his hands, at the floor, at anything but her face.

"I can't stop thinking about you," he said finally. "I can't function. I go to work and I see your face in every blueprint. I close my eyes and I feel your skin. It's like you've crawled inside my head and I can't get you out."

Kelly's heart pounded against her ribs. She had wanted this, wanted him to admit that this meant something. But hearing the words made it real in a way the sex never had.

"Marcus..."

"I know this is wrong." He looked up at her then, and his eyes were wet. "I know I'm your best friend's father. I know I'm supposed to be the responsible one. But I don't feel responsible around you. I feel reckless. I feel like I'm twenty years old again and I don't give a damn about consequences."

Kelly reached out and took his hand. His fingers were warm, slightly rough from years of drafting and building. She traced the lines of his palm, feeling the tremor in his grip.

"I've been lying to Brooke," she said softly. "Every time she texts me, every time she asks what I'm doing, I tell her I'm reading or swimming or sleeping. And I'm here with you. In her house. In her father's bed."

The guilt sat heavy in her chest, a stone she had been carrying since that first kiss in the garage. But underneath the guilt was something else. Something that felt like hunger.

"I don't want to stop," she admitted. "Even though I know I should. Even though I know this is going to destroy her if she finds out. I can't make myself care enough to walk away."

Marcus pulled her closer, his hand sliding up her arm to cup her face. His thumb brushed across her cheek, gentle and possessive.

"I've been telling myself this was just sex," he said. "That I was just having fun with a pretty girl who wanted me. But it's not. It's not just sex, Kelly. I think about you constantly. I dream about you. I wake up in the middle of the night and reach for you and you're not there and it feels like I'm drowning."

Kelly's breath caught. She had never heard him speak like this, so raw and unguarded. The Marcus she knew was always in control, always commanding, always the one leading. But this Marcus was vulnerable. This Marcus was scared.

"I feel the same way," she whispered. "I've had crushes before. I've had boyfriends. But this is different. This is like I can't breathe without you. Like you've become the air in my lungs."

Marcus groaned and pulled her into his lap. His arms wrapped around her, tight and desperate, and she buried her face in his neck. She could feel his pulse racing against her lips, fast and uneven.

"I'm risking everything for this," he said against her hair. "My relationship with my daughter. My reputation. Everything I've built. And I don't care. I don't care about any of it as long as I have you."

Kelly pulled back to look at him. His eyes were dark, hungry, filled with a tenderness that made her chest ache.

"How did this happen?" she asked. "How did we go from a summer fling to this?"

Marcus shook his head. "I don't know. Maybe it started years ago. Maybe I noticed you before I let myself admit it. Maybe I've been falling for you since the first time Brooke brought you home for spring break."

Kelly remembered that trip. She had been eighteen, a high school senior, nervous and excited to visit her college friend's family. Marcus had picked them up from the airport, and she had been struck by how handsome he was, how confident, how different from the boys her own age. She had pushed the attraction down, buried it under layers of propriety and friendship. But it had never gone away. It had only grown, waiting for the right moment to surface.

"I've wanted you for so long," she said. "I used to fantasize about you. I used to make up scenarios in my head where you noticed me, where you wanted me. And now you're here, holding me, telling me you can't live without me. It feels like a dream."

Marcus smiled, a sad, crooked smile that didn't reach his eyes. "I'm not a dream, Kelly. I'm a middle-aged man with a daughter your age and a divorce that still stings. I'm baggage and complications and every reason why you should run."

"Then why aren't you pushing me away?"

"Because I'm selfish." He pressed his forehead against hers. "Because I want you more than I want to be a good man. Because you make me feel alive in a way I haven't felt in years."

Kelly kissed him. It was soft at first, tentative, a question more than a statement. But Marcus answered with a groan, his hands fisting in her hair, pulling her closer. The kiss deepened, turned hungry, turned into something that felt like a promise.

They fell back onto the bed together, a tangle of limbs and desperate hands. Kelly's shirt came off, then his, skin pressing against skin in a way that felt like coming home. Marcus rolled her onto her back and loomed over her, his body a shadow against the dim light. His mouth found her collarbone, trailing hot, open-mouthed kisses down her chest while his hands worked at the clasp of her bra. She arched into him, helping, wanting, and when the fabric fell away, he groaned at the sight of her.

"God, you're beautiful," he murmured, dipping his head to take one nipple into his mouth. His tongue circled the peak, slow and deliberate, before he sucked gently, drawing a sharp gasp from her lips. His thumb rolled the other nipple, pinching just hard enough to make her squirm beneath him.

Kelly's hands found his shoulders, gripping the hard muscle there, then sliding down his back. She could feel the tension coiled in him, the restraint he was fighting to maintain. She didn't want his restraint. She wanted him undone.

"I need to be inside you," he said, his voice rough with need. "I need to feel you. I need to know this is real."

Kelly nodded, her hands sliding down his chest, his stomach, stopping at the waistband of his jeans. "Then take me. I'm yours. I've always been yours."

Marcus made a sound, half growl and half whimper, and stripped off the rest of their clothes with clumsy urgency. When he settled between her legs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance, he paused. She was slick and swollen, ready for him, and the heat of her against his tip made him shudder. He looked down at her, his eyes searching hers.

"Say it again," he said. "Tell me you're mine."

"I'm yours, Marcus. I'm yours."

He pushed inside her in one slow, steady thrust. Kelly gasped, her back arching, her fingers digging into his shoulders as she took all of him. He filled her completely, stretched her in a way that made her feel claimed, owned, possessed. He held himself still inside her, letting her adjust, letting her feel every inch of him buried deep within her.

"Fuck," he breathed. "You feel so good. You feel perfect."

He began to move, slow and deep, each thrust a declaration. Kelly wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, wanting to feel him in every part of her. The heat built between them, a slow fire that spread through her veins. He pulled almost all the way out, the head of his cock catching at her entrance, before sinking back in to the hilt. The friction was exquisite, maddening, and she whimpered with each stroke.

"Look at me," Marcus said. "I want to see your eyes when you come."

Kelly forced her eyes open, meeting his gaze. The intensity there made her breath catch. He was watching her like she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, like she was precious and fragile and worth every risk.

"I love the way you look at me," she whispered.

Marcus's rhythm faltered. His hips stuttered, and he buried his face in her neck, his breath hot against her skin.

"Don't say that," he said. "Don't say things that make me want to keep you forever."

Kelly's heart clenched. She ran her fingers through his hair, tugging gently, feeling the tremor that ran through his body.

"Why not? It's true. I want you to keep me."

Marcus lifted his head, and his eyes were wet again. He kissed her, hard and desperate, and began to move faster. The slow tenderness gave way to something rawer, something more urgent. He fucked her with a need that bordered on desperation, each thrust a confession, a plea, a prayer. The bed creaked beneath them, the headboard tapping against the wall in steady rhythm.

Kelly met him thrust for thrust, her nails raking down his back, her moans filling the room. She lifted her hips to take him deeper, clenching around him, and he groaned at the tightness, his pace quickening. His hand found her breast, kneading, pinching her nipple as he drove into her. She could feel her orgasm building, a wave gathering strength at the base of her spine.

"Come for me," Marcus growled. "Come for me, Kelly. Let me feel you."

She shattered. Her climax ripped through her, violent and consuming, her walls clenching around him in pulsing waves. She cried out his name like it was the only word she knew. Marcus followed a moment later, his body tensing, his groan muffled against her shoulder as he spilled inside her, his hips jerking with the force of his release.

They lay tangled together afterward, sweaty and breathless, the silence heavy between them. Marcus was the first to speak.

"I don't know how this ends," he said. "I don't know how we walk away from this without hurting everyone we love."

Kelly traced patterns on his chest, her fingers following the lines of his muscles. "Maybe we don't walk away. Maybe we find a way to make this work."

"Brooke will never forgive us."

"Brooke doesn't have to know."

Marcus was quiet for a long moment. When he spoke again, his voice was barely a whisper.

"I would do anything for you. You know that, right? I would burn my whole life down if it meant I could keep you."

Kelly lifted her head to look at him. His face was shadowed, but she could see the truth in his eyes. He meant it. Every word.

"I would do the same," she said. "And that scares me more than anything."

Marcus pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her like he was afraid she would disappear. Kelly pressed her ear to his chest, listening to the steady thump of his heart.

"I don't want to be your secret," she said softly. "But I'll take whatever you can give me. For now."

Marcus kissed the top of her head. "You're not a secret. You're the only thing that makes sense in my life right now."

They lay there in the dark, wrapped in each other, the weight of their confessions hanging in the air. Kelly knew that tomorrow would bring new risks, new close calls, new moments of guilt. But tonight, in Marcus's arms, she felt safe. She felt wanted. She felt like she had finally found the place she was meant to be.

And for now, that was enough.

Final Reckoning

The text came through just after dawn. Kelly's phone buzzed against the nightstand, pulling her from a dream where Marcus's hands were everywhere and Brooke was nowhere. She blinked at the screen, her blood running cold.

"Internship ended early. Coming home today. Can't wait to see you!!!"

Kelly's heart hammered against her ribs. She read the message three times, each word sinking deeper into her chest like stones dropped into still water. Today. Not later in the week. Not even tomorrow. Today.

She scrambled out of bed, pulling on the first clothes she found, her mind racing through the guest room. Marcus's cologne on the pillows. The sheets that had been tangled and damp just hours ago. Her phone full of texts she'd been too careless to delete.

She found Marcus in the kitchen, pouring coffee, looking impossibly calm in his gray henley and jeans. He turned when she burst in, his face shifting from surprise to concern the moment he saw her expression.

"What's wrong?"

"Brooke. She's coming home today. She just texted me."

Marcus set the coffee pot down slowly, his jaw tightening. "When?"

"She didn't say exactly. Just 'today.' She could be here in a few hours." Kelly's voice pitched higher, panic bleeding through. "We have to clean everything. Your room. My room. The kitchen counter. God, the kitchen counter."

Marcus crossed to her, his hands settling on her shoulders. "Hey. Look at me."

She did, her breath coming too fast.

"We'll handle it. We'll be careful. She doesn't know anything."

"But what if she—"

"She doesn't," he said firmly. "And she won't. Not unless we give her a reason."

Kelly nodded, letting his calm wash over her, but the knot in her stomach stayed tight. They spent the morning scrubbing every trace of their affair. Stripping sheets and stuffing them in the wash, airing out rooms that still smelled of sex and sweat, deleting messages that would condemn them both. Kelly checked the guest bathroom for any stray hair or forgotten earring. Marcus wiped down the kitchen island until it gleamed.

By the time Brooke's car pulled into the driveway just before noon, the house looked pristine. Kelly stood on the front porch, forcing a smile, her pulse pounding so loud she was sure it would give her away.

Brooke bounded out of the car, her blonde ponytail swinging. "Riles! Oh my god, I missed you!"

They hugged, and Kelly squeezed her best friend tight, guilt coiling in her stomach like a snake. "I missed you too. How was the rest of the internship?"

"Amazing. But exhausting. I just wanted to get back here." Brooke pulled back, her blue eyes scanning Kelly's face. "You look different. Did you do something with your hair?"

Kelly's hand flew to her auburn waves. "No. Just the lake air, I guess."

Brooke shrugged, grabbing her bag from the trunk. "Well, it looks good. Where's Dad?"

"Inside. He's been working on some plans for a new project."

They walked in together, and Kelly watched as Brooke hugged Marcus, her father's arms wrapping around her with obvious love. The sight twisted something in Kelly's chest. She was standing in the middle of a family she was slowly destroying.

The first few hours were a minefield. Brooke unpacked, chattering about her internship, asking Kelly about her weekend. Kelly kept her answers vague, focusing on how peaceful the lake had been, how much she'd needed the quiet. Every time Marcus walked through the room, she avoided his eyes, terrified that Brooke would see something in their gaze.

But Brooke seemed oblivious. She was too caught up in her own stories, too excited to be back. Until dinner.

They sat at the table, eating the pasta Marcus had made, when Brooke's phone buzzed. She glanced at it, then looked up with a curious expression. "Hey, Dad, did you use my hairbrush? I found a long auburn hair in it this morning."

Kelly's fork froze halfway to her mouth.

Marcus didn't miss a beat. "I borrowed it for a quick touch-up. Mine's been missing."

Brooke frowned. "Since when do you use hairbrushes? You have like two hairs to manage."

He shrugged, a smile playing at his lips. "I'm trying new things."

Brooke laughed, letting it go, but Kelly saw the flicker in her eyes. A tiny seed of doubt. She filed it away, but it was there.

Later that night, Kelly lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, when her phone buzzed. A text from Marcus. "Guest room. Dead of night. We need to talk."

Her pulse spiked. She shouldn't. It was too risky. But she couldn't say no. Not when every moment with him felt like counting down to an ending she wasn't ready for.

In the dead of night, she slipped out of bed, padding silently across the hall. The guest room door clicked shut behind her, and Marcus pulled her into his arms before she could speak.

"I can't stop thinking about you," he murmured against her hair. "Even with her here, it's all I can think about."

"Marcus, this is insane. She's right down the hall."

"I know." His hands slid down her back, pressing her closer. "But I need you. Just once more. Just to say goodbye."

Kelly's breath caught. "Goodbye?"

"Not forever. But we have to be smarter. We have to be careful. No more risks until we figure this out."

She looked up at him, his blue eyes dark with desire and something deeper. Love. She saw it there, raw and unguarded. And she felt it too, a terrifying, consuming thing that had taken root in her chest.

"Okay," she whispered. "But not goodbye. Just... see you later."

He kissed her then, deep and desperate, like he was trying to memorize the taste of her. His hands roamed her body, pulling at the thin fabric of her sleep shorts. She moaned into his mouth, her fingers tangling in his hair.

They fell onto the bed together, a tangle of limbs and whispered pleas. This time, there was no teasing, no buildup. Just raw, aching need. His mouth found her neck, teeth grazing the sensitive skin below her ear, and she bit her lip to keep from crying out. His hands pushed beneath her shirt, palms hot against her bare stomach, sliding upward until his thumbs brushed the underside of her breasts. She arched into his touch, her fingers clutching at the sheets beneath her.

"You're so beautiful," he breathed against her collarbone. "I can't get enough of you."

"Then don't," she whispered back. "Don't get enough."

He pulled her shirt over her head in one fluid motion, and the cool air hit her skin for only a moment before his mouth followed, his tongue tracing a path from her collarbone to her breast. She gasped when his lips closed around her nipple, her back bowing off the mattress. His hand found her other breast, fingers rolling and pinching gently while his tongue worked in slow, deliberate circles. She buried her face in his shoulder, muffling the sounds that escaped her.

His free hand slid down her stomach, fingers hooking into the waistband of her shorts. She lifted her hips, letting him pull them down, and then his hand was between her thighs, fingers sliding through her slick heat. She whimpered, her hips bucking against his hand, desperate for more.

"God, you're so wet," he groaned against her skin. "I've been hard all day thinking about this. About you."

"Then stop thinking," she breathed, reaching for him. "And fuck me."

He entered her in one smooth motion, and she gasped, her nails digging into his shoulders. The stretch of him, the fullness, made her vision blur. He held still for a moment, letting her adjust, his forehead pressed to hers, his breath ragged.

"God, Kelly," he groaned. "I don't know what I'd do if I lost you."

"You won't," she breathed, her hips rising to meet his. "I'm not going anywhere."

He started to move, slow at first, pulling almost all the way out before sliding back in, each thrust deliberate and deep. She wrapped her legs around his waist, heels digging into the small of his back, pulling him closer, deeper. Every stroke hit that spot inside her that made her toes curl, made her forget where they were, made her forget everything but the feel of him moving inside her.

Then his rhythm quickened, his hips snapping forward with more force, and she matched him, their bodies moving together in a frantic dance born of stolen time and imminent danger. Every creak of the floorboards made them freeze, every whisper of the wind made them hold their breath. But they couldn't stop. They were addicted, caught in a spiral of pleasure and fear that only made everything more intense.

His hand slipped between their bodies, fingers finding her clit, rubbing in tight circles that sent sparks of electricity shooting through her. She bit down on his shoulder to keep from screaming, her body trembling beneath him. The pressure built inside her, coiling tighter and tighter with each thrust, each circle of his fingers.

"Come for me," he whispered against her ear, his voice rough and strained. "I want to feel you come around me."

And she did, her body clenching around him in waves, her orgasm crashing through her so hard she saw stars. His name fell from her lips, muffled by his kiss. He followed moments later, his body shuddering against hers, his breath hot in her ear as he spilled himself inside her.

They lay there, tangled in each other, the silence heavy with unspoken words. Finally, Marcus spoke.

"We can't do this here. Not while she's in the house."

"I know."

"But I don't want to stop. I don't want to lose what we have."

Kelly turned in his arms, meeting his gaze. "Then we don't. We just... find a way. A safe way."

He nodded, his hand cupping her cheek. "We will. I promise."

She kissed him softly, a promise of her own. "I'll wait. However long it takes."

They stayed like that until the first gray light of dawn crept through the curtains. Then Kelly slipped back to her room, her body aching and her heart full.

As she lay in bed, she heard Brooke's voice down the hall, laughing at something on her phone. The sound was a knife twisting in her gut. She was lying to her best friend. Betraying her in the worst possible way. But she couldn't bring herself to regret it.

Not when Marcus's touch still burned on her skin. Not when his promises echoed in her ears.

The confrontation was coming. She could feel it, a storm gathering on the horizon. But for now, she had this. She had him. And she would hold on as long as she could.

Even if it destroyed everything.
