Breath of Release
Zelda Parker stood at the kitchen island with a basket of warm laundry at her feet, the scent of fabric softener still clinging to her hands. The house was quiet except for the low hum of the dishwasher. She wiped her palms on her jeans and slipped her earbuds in, then tapped play on the first episode of Deep Surrender. Frederick Lee’s voice filled her head at once, deep and unhurried, like warm honey poured over stone.
“Welcome,” he said. “I’m glad you’re here. Take a moment to settle. Find a comfortable place to stand or sit. Let the day fall away from your shoulders.”
Zelda exhaled and reached for a folded towel. She had downloaded the podcast on a whim after reading a forum post about anxiety relief that didn’t involve another prescription. The description promised primal confidence and hidden desires unlocked through simple breathing. Nothing dramatic, just guided relaxation. She needed that. Phillip had been working late again, and the familiar tightness in her chest had returned every afternoon for weeks.
“Breathe in slowly through your nose,” Frederick continued. “Hold it for a count of four. Feel the air fill your lungs completely. Now release, nice and easy. Let everything you’re carrying drift out with the breath.”
She followed without thinking, folding a shirt while the air moved through her. The rhythm felt good. Her shoulders loosened a fraction. Another breath. The voice guided her deeper, counting down, encouraging her to imagine tension leaving her body in soft waves.
“With each breath out, you become lighter. With each breath in, you open to what already lives inside you. Strong. Natural. Waiting.”
Zelda’s hands slowed on the laundry. A strange warmth began low in her belly, nothing sharp, just a spreading heat that made her shift her weight. She told herself it was the relaxation finally working. She reached for another towel and folded it neatly, stacking it on the growing pile.
“Picture yourself standing taller,” Frederick said. “Imagine the strength of a true king moving through you. Feel that strength settle behind your ribs, behind your spine. Let it warm you. Let it remind you who you are becoming.”
The phrase landed softly. Zelda’s nipples tightened against the soft cotton of her bra. She drew in a quick breath, surprised at the sudden sensitivity. The warmth in her belly deepened and slid lower, a slow pulse between her thighs that made her press her knees together for a moment. She glanced toward the hallway, listening for Phillip’s car, then forced her attention back to the laundry.
Frederick’s voice never rushed. It simply continued, layering suggestion over suggestion. “That strength belongs to you now. Whenever you hear those words, feel the strength of a true king, you will remember this calm. This heat. This openness.”
Zelda’s cheeks flushed. She set down a pair of Phillip’s socks and pressed her palm lightly against her stomach, feeling the warmth radiate outward. Her breasts felt heavier, the nipples stiff and insistent against the fabric. She hadn’t expected anything physical. The podcast was supposed to help her stop overthinking, not make her body react like this. Yet the sensation was undeniably pleasant, a slow, liquid ache that made her want to keep breathing exactly as he instructed.
She folded three more items before the episode wound down. Frederick’s closing words were gentle. “Carry this feeling with you. Notice how good it feels to let go. When you’re ready, press play on the next episode. Your mind already knows the way.”
Zelda pulled the earbuds out and stared at the neatly stacked laundry. Her breathing had returned to normal, but the warmth lingered, a faint throb that refused to fade completely. She touched one nipple through her shirt and felt it respond instantly, sending a small spark down her spine. A nervous laugh escaped her. She shook her head, embarrassed at herself, and reached for her phone.
She queued Episode 2 without hesitation.
The front door opened. Phillip’s keys jingled in the bowl on the entry table. Zelda straightened quickly, smoothing her shirt and tucking a strand of auburn hair behind her ear. She could still feel the residual heat between her legs, but she forced a calm expression onto her face.
“Hey,” Phillip called, setting his briefcase down. “Smells good in here. You get everything done?”
“Almost,” she answered, lifting the basket. “Just finished the towels.”
He crossed the room and kissed her cheek, the familiar press of his lips quick and affectionate. Zelda smiled automatically, hoping the flush on her skin didn’t show. Her nipples were still tight, and the memory of Frederick’s voice made the warmth flicker again.
“You look relaxed,” Phillip said, studying her. “That new podcast helping?”
Zelda nodded. “It’s just breathing exercises. Nothing fancy. I think it’s nice so far.”
Phillip smiled, already loosening his tie. “Good. You deserve a break.” He headed toward the bedroom to change, leaving her alone with the basket and the quiet house.
Zelda stood very still for a moment, listening to the faint echo of Frederick’s voice in her mind. The trigger had settled somewhere deep, warm and insistent. She could feel it waiting, ready to be called again. She picked up the basket and carried it upstairs, already deciding she would listen to the next episode as soon as Phillip left for his evening run.
The warmth between her thighs followed her all the way to the linen closet.
