Arrival and Selection
Galisia Santos leaned back in the leather seat of her private jet, the hum of the engines a steady pulse beneath her. The island stretched below like an untouched promise, turquoise water lapping at white sand, but her focus stayed on the four men seated across from her. She crossed her legs, the slit in her pencil skirt revealing just enough toned thigh to command attention without giving anything away. Her dark wavy hair fell over one shoulder, and she fixed each of them with that sharp, assessing stare that had closed deals worth millions.
"Gentlemen," she said, her voice smooth and laced with authority, "you know why you're here. The resort reopens in ninety days. Fail me, and you're gone. Impress me, and we all win." She let the words hang, watching how they landed. Carmine Cruz sat straight, his hazel eyes narrowed in that proud, creative way she already liked. Richard Moreno flashed a warm smile, fingers drumming on his knee like he was already planning menus. Vince Rybold kept his broad shoulders squared, scarred hands resting on his thighs, gray eyes scanning the cabin like a threat assessment. Lester Brooks remained calm, blue eyes steady, his lean build relaxed but attentive.
She started with Carmine. "Your designs for the main villa are ambitious. Tell me why they'll hold up under the timeline."
Carmine met her gaze without flinching. "Because I don't design for deadlines. I design for legacy. The structure will stand long after we're gone." His voice was precise, reserved, but there was heat under it when she leaned forward and rested her elbow on the armrest, chin in hand.
"Legacy costs time we don't have," Galisia replied, tilting her head. "Convince me you're flexible." She extended her hand across the small table between them. Carmine took it, his grip firm, but he held on a second longer than necessary. His thumb brushed the side of her palm, and his stare dropped to her lips before snapping back up. She felt the pull, that first flicker of hunger, and smiled inwardly. Professional boundaries already bending.
She released him and turned to Richard. "Chef Moreno. Your reputation precedes you. How do you plan to source ingredients on an isolated island without compromising quality?"
Richard grinned, that flirtatious spark lighting his bronze features. "I adapt, Ms. Santos. Fresh catches from the lagoon, herbs grown on-site. Every dish will taste like an invitation." He accepted her offered handshake with both hands, warm and enveloping. His fingers lingered, squeezing gently as his eyes traced the curve of her neck. "And if the menu needs... personal tasting, I'm at your disposal."
Galisia arched a brow, but didn't pull away immediately. "Careful, Richard. I bite back." His smile widened, and she caught the way his breath hitched, the subtle shift in his posture. Attraction confirmed. She filed it away.
Vince came next. The former Navy diver answered her questions on security protocols with curt efficiency, his protective instincts clear in every word. When she extended her hand, his broad palm engulfed hers. The handshake was solid, military-precise, but his piercing gray eyes held hers with an intensity that spoke of more than duty. She saw the flicker, the way his jaw tightened as if fighting the urge to pull her closer. "Your safety comes first," he said, voice low. "Always."
Lester was last, the masseur's calm presence a quiet contrast. "Your hands are your greatest asset," Galisia said, watching him. "How do you handle clients who demand more than relaxation?"
"I listen," Lester replied softly, descriptive even in simplicity. "Every body tells its own story." Their handshake was gentle yet firm, his touch attuned, fingers pressing just enough to send a subtle current up her arm. His blue eyes held a quiet intensity, a promise of patience that made her pulse quicken. He didn't look away, and she didn't rush the contact.
She leaned back again, crossing her arms under her breasts, letting the fabric of her blouse pull tight. "You're all hired. Contracts are in your folders. Sign them before we land." The men exchanged glances, the air thickening with unspoken tension. Richard shifted in his seat, Vince's fingers flexed, Carmine's jaw worked, and Lester's lips curved in a faint, knowing smile. Hungry stares followed her every movement as she stood and moved down the aisle to pour herself a drink.
One by one they signed, the sound of pen on paper punctuating the jet's drone. Galisia watched Carmine last, his proud shoulders relaxing just a fraction as he scrawled his name. She caught his eye and nodded toward the back of the cabin. "Carmine. A word in private before we touch down. Blueprints need final tweaks tonight."
He stood, tall and muscular frame unfolding. "Of course, Ms. Santos." The others watched as she led him toward the private lounge, the flirtatious undercurrent now a steady thrum. Richard muttered something low to Vince, who only grunted in response. Lester's gaze followed them, patient and assessing.
Galisia paused at the lounge door, glancing back over her shoulder. "Rest up, gentlemen. The real work starts at sunset." Her words carried command, but the slight curve of her full lips promised more. Carmine's intense hazel eyes met hers again, and she felt the first thread of control tighten. The island waited below, and with it, the empire she intended to build, one man at a time.
