The Playful Suggestion

The house was quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator and the occasional creak of the old hardwood settling. Brianna Carson dropped her designer tote by the door and kicked off her heels with a groan that seemed to come from somewhere deep in her bones. Another fourteen-hour day. Another deal that nearly collapsed at the final hour. She was good at her job, damn good, but weeks like this one made her wonder if the commission checks were worth the exhaustion.

Gary looked up from the couch where he was half-watching a documentary about deep sea creatures. His eyes softened when he saw her. "Rough one?"

"Rough doesn't cover it." She crossed the living room and collapsed beside him, letting her head fall against his shoulder. "The Millers changed their mind three times before signing. I had to rewrite the counteroffer twice."

His arm came around her, warm and familiar. "But they signed?"

"They signed." She let out a breath. "So I get to do it all again tomorrow with the Parkers."

He chuckled, the sound vibrating through his chest. "You're a machine, Brianna."

"I'm a machine that needs a drink."

She didn't move to get one. Neither did he. They sat there for a long moment, the documentary playing on in the background, some narrator talking about anglerfish and the crushing darkness of the deep ocean. It felt appropriate somehow.

"What's on your mind?" Gary asked, his voice low and careful.

Brianna shrugged against him. "I don't know. Feeling like I'm running on a treadmill that never stops. The same cycle every single day. And I love our life, I do. But sometimes I wonder if there's more."

Gary was quiet for a moment. She felt his hand move to her hair, fingers threading through the auburn strands. "More how?"

"I'm not sure. More excitement. Something different." She turned her head to look at him. "Does that sound awful?"

"It sounds honest." His brown eyes held hers. "I've been thinking about something too."

"Tell me."

He shifted, pulling back just enough to see her face clearly. There was a nervous energy in his posture, a tension that wasn't usually there. "I've been reading some things online. Forums. People talking about their fantasies." He paused, and she could see him searching for the right words. "There's one that keeps coming up. One I can't stop thinking about."

Her heart gave a small, curious flutter. "Go on."

He took a breath. "What if you went on a trip. Alone. And met someone."

The words hung in the air between them. Brianna felt her pulse shift, a strange warmth spreading through her chest. "You mean an affair?"

"Not an affair." His voice was quick, almost defensive. "Something controlled. Something we talked about first. I'd know where you were, who you were with. You'd send me pictures. Videos. I'd be there with you in a way, even if I wasn't physically there."

She sat up straighter, turning to face him fully. The documentary played on, forgotten. "Gary, are you serious?"

"I don't know." He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture she knew well. It meant he was nervous. "I've been thinking about it for months. Every time we make love, I picture it. You with someone else. Watching you. Knowing you're mine but seeing you with someone else."

Her breath caught. "You imagine that? While we're together?"

"Yeah." His voice was rough now. "And it drives me crazy. In a good way. I don't fully understand it, but it's there."

Brianna looked at her husband, this man she'd been with for ten years, and saw something new in his eyes. A vulnerability. A desire. A door she hadn't known was there.

"I don't know what to say," she admitted.

"You don't have to say anything. I just wanted you to know." He reached for her hand, lacing their fingers together. "I love you, Brianna. More than anything. This doesn't change that. It's because of that love that I even want to share this with you."

She felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. Not sadness. Something else. Release. "I love you too."

They sat in silence for a while, the weight of what he'd said settling around them like a blanket. It felt surreal and terrifying and somehow right.

"If we did this," she said slowly, testing the words on her tongue, "what would that look like? What are the rules?"

Gary straightened, and she could see the planner in him taking over. This was how he coped with big emotions. He organized them. "We talk about everything before it happens. No surprises. You choose who. I don't get a say in that. And I get updates. Texts, pictures, videos. I need to feel included."

Brianna nodded, processing. "And safety?"

"Nonnegotiable. You use protection. You meet in public first, and you trust your gut." His grip on her hand tightened. "If anything feels off, you walk away. No questions asked."

"And us?" Her voice was small. "What happens to us?"

"Nothing." He said it like a promise. "We come home and talk about everything. We make love. We're still us, Brianna. Just a little more honest about what we want."

She looked at him, really looked at him. The man who made her coffee every morning. Who held her when she cried over lost deals. Who was now offering her something she'd never known she wanted.

"I need to think about this," she said.

"Of course." He kissed her forehead. "Take all the time you need."

But even as she said it, her mind was already racing. What would it feel like? Someone new. Someone who didn't know her history, her routines, her favorite way to be touched. The thought was terrifying and electric all at once.

They went to bed after that, but sleep didn't come easily. Brianna lay awake, staring at the ceiling, feeling Gary's warmth beside her. His breathing evened out, but she knew he wasn't asleep either. They were both thinking about it.

The next morning, she called in sick for the first time in two years.

She spent the day walking around the city, letting her mind wander. She passed hotels, restaurants, bars. She imagined meeting someone at each one. The scenarios played out like movies in her head. A businessman in a hotel bar. A younger man at a coffee shop. Someone confident and patient who would take his time with her.

By the time she got home, she'd made a decision.

Gary was in the kitchen, stirring something on the stove. He looked up when she walked in, and she saw the question in his eyes.

"I want to try it," she said.

He set the spoon down. "Are you sure?"

"I'm terrified. But I want to try."

He crossed to her, taking her face in his hands. "We don't have to do anything you don't want to do. We can stop at any time."

"I know." She placed her hands over his. "But I think I need this. I think we need this."

He kissed her then, soft and deep. When they broke apart, she was trembling.

"So where do we start?" she asked.

"You book a hotel. Somewhere nice. Somewhere you feel safe." He smiled, a mix of nerves and excitement. "Then we find someone."

That night, after dinner, Brianna opened her laptop on the couch. Gary sat beside her, close enough that their shoulders touched. She navigated to a hotel website, scrolling through options.

"What about this one?" She pointed to a boutique hotel downtown. Four stars. Clean lines. A rooftop bar.

Gary looked at the pictures. "Looks good. Classy."

She clicked through the room options. A king suite on the fourth floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows. A view of the city skyline.

"Room 412," she read aloud. "It's available Friday."

Her finger hovered over the book button. Her heart was pounding so hard she could feel it in her throat.

"Are you nervous?" Gary asked.

"Yes." She laughed, a shaky sound. "I feel like I'm about to jump off a cliff."

"We can stop. Right now."

She looked at him. His eyes were dark, holding a mix of arousal and love, fear and hope all tangled together.

"I don't want to stop," she said.

She clicked the button.

The confirmation screen appeared. Room 412. Friday night. A hotel key waiting for her at the front desk.

Brianna closed the laptop and turned to her husband. She felt like she was on fire. Like every nerve in her body was awake for the first time in years.

"It's real now," she whispered.

"It is." He pulled her close. "We can still change our minds."

"I don't want to." She said it with more conviction than she felt. But as the words left her mouth, she realized they were true. She didn't want to change her mind. She wanted to see where this led.

They made love that night with a tenderness that bordered on desperate. Gary held her like she was precious, like she was already slipping away and he was trying to keep her close. But Brianna felt more present than she had in months.

It started on the couch. His mouth found hers again, and this time there was no hesitation. His tongue swept against hers, tasting, claiming. She could feel the urgency in him, the way his hands gripped her waist and pulled her onto his lap. She straddled him there, her work clothes still rumpled and half-undone from the day, and felt him hard beneath her.

"I want you," he breathed against her neck, his lips tracing a path to her ear. "Right now. Right here."

She rocked against him, feeling the friction build. He groaned, low in his throat, and his hands slid up her back, pulling her blouse free. His fingers found the clasp of her bra with practiced ease. He'd done this a thousand times before, but tonight it felt different. Every touch was charged with something new.

He lifted her then, carrying her to the bedroom with a hunger she hadn't felt from him in months. He laid her on the bed and stood over her for a moment, just looking. His eyes were dark, his chest rising and falling with heavy breaths.

"You're so beautiful," he said. "You know that?"

She reached for him, pulling him down to her. "Show me."

He undressed her slowly, piece by piece, kissing each new expanse of skin as it was revealed. Her collarbone. The curve of her breast. The soft skin of her inner thigh. She arched into his touch, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer.

When his mouth finally found her, she gasped. His tongue was hot and deliberate, circling her most sensitive spot with a patience that drove her wild. She could feel the stubble on his jaw against her thighs, the warmth of his breath, the way his hands gripped her hips to hold her still.

"Gary," she moaned, her head falling back against the pillows. "Don't stop."

He didn't. He kept going, his tongue working her with a rhythm that built slowly, relentlessly. She could feel herself getting close, the tension coiling in her core. But just before she reached the edge, he pulled back.

"Not yet," he said, his voice rough. "I want to be inside you when you come."

He moved up her body, kissing her stomach, her ribs, the valley between her breasts. She could taste herself on his lips when he kissed her, and the intimacy of it made her head spin.

He reached for the nightstand, pulling open the drawer. She watched as he rolled the condom on, his hands steady despite the tension in his body. Then he positioned himself between her legs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance.

"Look at me," he said.

She met his eyes. He pushed inside her, slow and deep, and she felt herself stretch around him. The fullness was overwhelming, and she cried out, her nails digging into his shoulders.

"God, Brianna," he groaned, his forehead pressing against hers. "You feel so good."

He started to move, pulling almost all the way out before sliding back in. Each thrust was deliberate, measured, like he was trying to memorize the feeling of her. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, and he groaned again.

"I kept thinking about it," he said, his voice strained. "Picturing you with someone else. Someone new touching you. Kissing you. Being inside you."

The words sent a jolt through her. She should have been shocked, maybe. Instead, she felt a rush of wetness, a tightening in her core that made him gasp.

"Tell me more," she whispered.

His rhythm quickened. "I'd want to watch. See his hands on you. See you respond to him. See you come for him." His breath was ragged now. "And then you'd come home to me. Tell me everything. Let me feel where he'd been."

She was close again, so close. The tension was building, spiraling tighter with every thrust. She could feel herself clenching around him, pulling him deeper.

"I'm going to come," she said, her voice breaking.

"Do it," he urged. "Come for me, Brianna."

She shattered. The orgasm ripped through her, wave after wave, and she cried out his name. He followed moments later, his body going rigid, his own release pulling a groan from deep in his chest. He collapsed onto her, his weight warm and grounding.

They lay there for a long time, their breathing slowly returning to normal. Gary traced lazy patterns on her hip, his touch feather-light. She could still feel the ghost of him inside her, the aftershocks of her orgasm still trembling through her limbs.

"That was different," she said softly.

He kissed her shoulder. "Good different?"

"Very good different."

Afterward, lying in the dark, she felt the weight of the hotel confirmation in her phone. A digital promise. A key to a door she'd never opened.

"Gary?" she said softly.

"Yeah?"

"Thank you for trusting me with this."

He was quiet for a moment. Then his hand found hers in the dark. "Thank you for trusting me enough to try."

She closed her eyes and let herself imagine it. A hotel room. A stranger. A version of herself she hadn't met yet.

The thrill of possibility ran through her like a current, warm and electric. She was terrified and exhilarated and more ready than she'd ever been.

Friday couldn't come fast enough.
