Late Night Discovery
Karla Delwin adjusted her glasses and leaned closer to her monitor, fingers flying across the keyboard as she refined the final slides for the merger presentation. The office was quiet after ten, the usual hum of daytime activity replaced by the low whir of the air conditioning and the occasional creak of the building settling. She had stayed late on purpose. This project was her chance to prove she belonged in the executive suite, not just as the assistant who scheduled their meetings.
Her shoulders ached from hours hunched over the desk, but she ignored it. At twenty-eight she had already climbed further than most expected from an executive assistant, and she wasn't stopping now. The toned muscles in her legs flexed as she shifted in her chair, the result of her daily workouts giving her a posture that projected confidence even when she felt the weight of the workload.
A faint sound drifted down the hallway. Muffled laughter first, then something lower, a rhythmic thump that didn't match any copier or printer she knew. Karla paused, head tilting. The private lounge was supposed to be empty this late. She saved her work, stood, and smoothed her pencil skirt over her hips. Curiosity pulled her forward more than caution.
She moved quietly on her heels, the carpet muffling her steps. The sounds grew clearer as she approached the lounge door, which stood slightly ajar. A woman's voice moaned softly. Karla's breath caught. She hesitated only a moment before pushing the door open and stepping inside unannounced.
Three men filled the room. Drevin Calmwood, the CEO, stood behind a leather couch with his shirt open, salt-and-pepper hair slightly tousled. Harold Long, the CFO, sat on the arm of the couch in his shirtsleeves, and Jameson Rule, the COO, leaned against the wet bar with a drink in hand. A woman in a short black dress knelt in front of Drevin, her head moving in a steady rhythm. The scene froze the moment Karla appeared.
Drevin's piercing blue eyes locked on hers. The woman on the floor pulled back, lips parted, and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. Silence stretched for three full seconds.
"Karla," Drevin said, his deep voice steady despite the interruption. "You're still here."
Karla's pulse hammered in her throat. Shock hit first, a hot flush climbing her neck, but it passed quickly. Her mind clicked into gear, weighing risks and rewards the way she always did with a tricky negotiation. This wasn't an accident. This was leverage, or perhaps an opening.
"I heard noises," she said, keeping her tone professional even as her eyes took in the scene. "I thought someone might need something. Clearly I was right."
Jameson chuckled low, setting his drink down. "Bold entrance, Delwin. Most people knock."
Harold remained silent, his sharp features unreadable, but his gaze traveled over Karla's fitted blouse and the curve of her 34C breasts beneath the fabric.
The escort stood, adjusting her dress with practiced ease. "Want me to go?" she asked Drevin, already reaching for her purse.
Karla didn't wait for his answer. She stepped further into the room and closed the door behind her. "Actually, I have a better idea. One that keeps everything in-house and improves the arrangement for everyone involved."
Drevin raised an eyebrow, his commanding presence filling the space. "I'm listening."
Karla met his eyes without flinching. Inside, her thoughts raced through possibilities. She had hidden desires she never acted on, cravings for something raw and shared that she buried under ambition. Here was a chance to satisfy both. "I stay late most nights anyway. I'm reliable, discreet, and I already know your schedules and preferences better than any temporary arrangement ever could. Replace her with me. Permanently."
Jameson straightened, interest sharpening his charismatic features. "You realize what you're offering?"
"I do." Karla's voice stayed even, though heat pooled low in her stomach at the thought. "After-hours only. My work performance remains unchanged during business hours. In return I want accelerated consideration for the upcoming director track and a compensation adjustment that reflects the additional value I'm providing."
Harold spoke for the first time, precise and measured. "You're negotiating while we're mid-session. That's either impressive or insane."
"It's efficient," Karla replied. She walked to the bar and poured herself a small water, giving them time to process. Her hips swayed with a subtle confidence she usually kept in check. "You get someone you trust. I get career momentum without the risk of an outsider leaking details. Everyone wins."
Drevin crossed his arms, muscles shifting under his open shirt. "And if we say no?"
Karla set the glass down. "Then I finish my project, go home, and we pretend this never happened. But we both know you'd rather have control over the arrangement than keep rolling the dice with strangers."
The escort watched with mild amusement, already edging toward the door. Drevin nodded once, and she slipped out without another word.
Jameson grinned. "She's got balls. I like it."
Harold studied her for a long moment. "Tomorrow night. Same time. We'll discuss terms and test the arrangement."
Karla felt the first real thrill settle into her bones. She had done it. The shock had faded into something sharper, an ambition mixed with anticipation she hadn't expected to surface so quickly. "I'll be here. And gentlemen? I expect clear rules and mutual respect. My career matters as much as the rest of this."
Drevin's mouth curved into a rare half-smile. "Understood. Now finish your slides, Delwin. You'll need the rest."
Karla turned and left the lounge, closing the door softly behind her. Her heels clicked down the empty hallway, each step carrying the weight of what she had just set in motion. The project still waited on her desk, but her mind already raced ahead to tomorrow night and the new role she had claimed for herself.
