First Day Protocol

The elevator hummed as it climbed the thirty floors of Coleman Tower, and Mallory Coomer watched her reflection in the polished brass doors. She had spent forty minutes that morning choosing the outfit. A cream silk blouse tucked into a navy pencil skirt that hit just above the knee. Simple pearl studs. Hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail that made her look older, sharper, like someone who belonged in a corner office.

She looked professional. Competent. Nothing like the girl who had spent last night staring at her ceiling, wondering if she was making the biggest mistake of her life.

The elevator chimed and the doors slid open onto the twenty-ninth floor. The marketing department stretched before her, all clean lines and glass walls and the kind of minimalist design that cost more than her monthly rent. A receptionist smiled from a curved desk of white marble, and Mallory smiled back, clutching her laptop like a shield.

"Mallory Coomer. First day of the internship program."

The receptionist nodded and handed her a badge on a lanyard. "HR orientation is in conference room B. Down the hall, second left. They're expecting you."

The orientation lasted an hour. A woman named Denise walked her through compliance forms, nondisclosure agreements, and an employee handbook thicker than her graduate thesis. Mallory signed everything, asked the right questions, took notes in a neat script that she barely looked at. Her mind kept drifting to the top floor. To the corner office where Bridger Coleman would be sitting right now, reading reports, making decisions that moved millions.

She had known him for years. At Piper's birthday parties, at graduations, at the occasional dinner where he sat at the head of the table and asked polite questions about her studies. He had always been Piper's dad. A figure of authority and warmth, someone who handed her a glass of champagne at Piper's twenty-first and told her she was like a second daughter to him.

That was before.

Before she had sent in her application. Before the interview where he had looked at her differently, his steel-gray eyes holding hers a moment longer than necessary. Before HR had called to offer her the position, and Piper had squealed with joy, and Mallory had felt something twist in her chest that she refused to name.

Denise finished the orientation and handed her a folder. "Mr. Coleman wants to see you in his office before you start. Top floor. His assistant will show you up."

Mallory's heart stumbled. She kept her face calm, nodded, thanked Denise, and walked toward the elevator.

The ride to the thirtieth floor was silent. The doors opened onto a different world. Dark wood paneling, soft lighting, the kind of hush that came from wealth and power. An assistant sat at a desk outside a set of double doors, and she smiled at Mallory with practiced warmth.

"Ms. Coomer. Go right in. He's expecting you."

Mallory pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The office was enormous. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city, the skyline stretching out in a panorama of glass and steel. A massive desk sat at the center, clean and organized, with a single framed photo facing away from her. And behind the desk, rising as she entered, was Bridger Coleman.

He was taller than she remembered. Or maybe she just hadn't noticed before, when he was her best friend's father and not her boss. He wore a charcoal suit that fit him perfectly, the jacket open over a crisp white shirt. His hair was salt and pepper, cut short, and his eyes were that same steel gray she had seen in the interview, sharp and assessing and impossible to read.

"Mallory." His voice was low, warm, with a rumble that seemed to settle in her chest. "Welcome. Please, have a seat."

She sat in the chair across from his desk, crossing her ankles, keeping her spine straight. The leather was soft and expensive. The whole room smelled like him. Sandalwood and something clean, like rain on concrete.

He sat back down, and for a moment they just looked at each other. The silence stretched, not uncomfortable but charged, like the air before a storm.

"How was orientation?" he asked.

"Thorough. I signed my life away in triplicate."

The corner of his mouth twitched. "Good. That means Denise did her job." He leaned forward, resting his forearms on the desk. The movement brought him closer, and Mallory caught the faint lines at the corners of his eyes, the way his jaw was sharp and clean-shaven. "I want to be clear about something, Mallory. This internship is merit-based. You earned it. Your portfolio was exceptional, and your references were strong. You're not here because of Piper, or because of our family connection. You're here because you have talent."

She nodded, her throat tight. "I understand."

"Good. Because that connection also means I'll hold you to a higher standard. You'll work harder. You'll stay later. You'll prove that you deserve this opportunity, not because of who you know, but because of what you can do." His eyes held hers. "Do you understand what I'm asking?"

"Yes, sir."

Something flickered in his gaze at the word. A heat that was there and gone so fast she almost missed it. He leaned back, and the moment passed.

"Your desk is in the bullpen on twenty-nine. You'll report to Sarah Chen, the senior marketing manager. She knows you're coming. If you have any issues, any questions, anything at all, my door is open."

The words were professional. The way he said them was not. There was a weight to his voice, a deliberate pause between each phrase, that made her skin prickle.

She stood, smoothing her skirt. "Thank you, Mr. Coleman. I won't let you down."

"I know you won't." He stood as well, and for a moment they were face to face, separated only by the width of his desk. He was so much taller than her. She had to tilt her chin up to meet his eyes. "One more thing, Mallory."

"Yes?"

"Call me Bridger when we're alone. Mr. Coleman is for the boardroom."

Her breath caught. She nodded, not trusting her voice, and turned to leave.

She was at the door when it swung open and Piper burst through, all bright smiles and wild dark hair and a coffee cup in each hand.

"Mal! I caught you!" Piper thrust a coffee at her, beaming. "I wanted to surprise you on your first day. Dad, isn't this amazing? My best friend working at Coleman Industries. It's like a dream come true."

Mallory took the coffee, her fingers numb. She watched Piper cross the room and kiss her father on the cheek, watched Bridger's face soften into something warm and paternal. The contrast was dizzying. One moment she had been alone with him, the air thick with something unspoken. Now Piper was here, laughing, touching his arm, and Mallory felt like an intruder in her own skin.

"I'm so proud of you," Piper said, turning back to her. "You're going to kill it. Seriously. Dad, isn't she going to kill it?"

"She's going to do very well," Bridger said. His voice was even, controlled. But when his eyes met Mallory's over Piper's shoulder, there was something in them that made her stomach flip.

Piper chattered on about dinner plans, about a party next weekend, about how they should celebrate. Mallory nodded and smiled and drank her coffee, and all the while she was acutely aware of Bridger watching her. The way his gaze lingered on her mouth when she took a sip. The way his thumb traced the edge of his desk, slow and deliberate.

"I should get to my desk," Mallory said finally. "Sarah's expecting me."

"Right, right. Go be amazing." Piper hugged her, quick and fierce. "I'll text you later. Dad, walk me out?"

Bridger nodded and followed Piper to the door. As he passed Mallory, his hand brushed her elbow. A light touch, barely there, gone in an instant. But it sent a jolt through her, sharp and electric, and she knew he had felt it too by the way his jaw tightened.

She walked to the elevator on legs that felt unsteady. The doors closed behind her, and she leaned against the wall, pressing the coffee cup to her forehead.

This was a mistake.

She could feel it, deep in her bones. The way he had looked at her. The way she had felt when he said her name. The way her pulse had raced when his hand touched her elbow.

She was supposed to be professional. Focused. She was supposed to be Piper's best friend, and he was supposed to be Piper's father, and none of this was supposed to feel like this.

But it did.

The elevator stopped on twenty-nine, and Mallory stepped out, straightening her blouse, lifting her chin. She found her desk in the bullpen, a clean white surface with a monitor and a phone and a small plant that someone had left as a welcome gift. She sat down, opened her laptop, and pulled up the first assignment.

She would keep her distance. She would focus on the work. She would be professional and competent and she would not think about the way Bridger Coleman's voice dropped when he said her name.

She would not think about the way his hand had lingered on her elbow.

She would not.

But even as she made the promise, she knew it was a lie. The attraction was already there, a spark she couldn't unfeel. And somewhere in the back of her mind, a voice whispered that she didn't want to put it out.

She wanted to see what happened when it caught fire.

Late File Review

The office floor hummed with the low buzz of empty fluorescent lights. Mallory glanced at the clock on her laptop screen. Nearly midnight. She had been here since seven that morning, and the marketing proposal for the Meridian account still needed another full revision.

She rubbed her eyes and stretched her neck. The building was silent except for the occasional click of the HVAC system. Everyone had gone home hours ago. Everyone except her.

Her phone buzzed with a text from Piper. How's the grind? You're still there??

Mallory typed back quickly. Almost done. Just polishing.

You're insane. Don't burn out on day three. Love you.

Love you too.

She set the phone face-down and stared at the spreadsheet again. The numbers blurred. She had been staring at them for so long that they stopped making sense. She needed coffee. She needed sleep. Most of all, she needed to stop thinking about the way Bridger Coleman had looked at her during their meeting yesterday.

She shook her head and stood. The break room was down the hall, past the corner office. His corner office. The lights were off in there now. He had left at eight, like he always did. She had watched him walk past her desk, briefcase in hand, giving her a curt nod before disappearing into the elevator.

She told herself that was a good thing. Distance. Professionalism. The exact boundaries she had promised herself she would maintain.

The break room was dark. She flicked on the light and reached for the coffee pot, but it was empty. Of course it was. She checked the cabinets. No pods left. Someone had used the last one and not replaced it.

She leaned against the counter and closed her eyes. The silence pressed in around her. Her own heartbeat filled her ears. The faint hum of the refrigerator provided the only company. Then came the soft sound of footsteps in the hallway.

Her eyes snapped open.

Bridger Coleman stood in the doorway, still in his suit jacket, his tie loosened at the collar. He held a paper coffee cup in one hand and a leather folder in the other.

"I thought you'd gone home," she said, her voice coming out breathier than she intended.

"I came back." He stepped into the break room and set the coffee cup on the counter. "Forgot some files. Saw your light on."

She nodded, not trusting her voice. He was close now. Near enough that she could smell his cologne, something woodsy and expensive. Near enough that she could see the silver threading through his hair at his temples.

"You're working late," he said. It wasn't a question.

"The Meridian proposal. I wanted to get it right."

"Ambitious." He studied her for a moment, his gray eyes unreadable. "You're going to burn yourself out."

"I can handle it."

"I don't doubt that." He picked up the coffee cup and held it out to her. "Here. It's black, no sugar. I remembered from this morning."

She took the cup, her fingers brushing his. The contact was brief, barely a second, but heat shot up her arm. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." He paused, then said, "I'm going to be here for a while. If you want help with the proposal, my door is open."

She should have said no. She should have thanked him politely and gone back to her desk and worked alone until she couldn't keep her eyes open anymore. That would have been the smart thing. The professional thing.

"Okay," she said.

He nodded once and turned, walking back toward his office. She followed, her heels clicking softly on the carpet. The coffee was warm in her hands, and she took a sip. It was perfect. Exactly how she liked it.

His office was expansive, with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the city skyline. The lights of downtown glittered in the darkness. He sat behind his desk and gestured to the chair across from him.

"Show me what you have."

She pulled up the proposal on her laptop and turned it toward him. He leaned forward, scanning the pages. She watched his face as he read, looking for any sign of approval or criticism. His expression was neutral, focused.

"The financial projections are solid," he said finally. "But the market analysis section is thin. You're not showing enough differentiation from our competitors."

"I know. I was struggling with that part."

"What's the biggest challenge you see?"

She took a breath. "Meridian's current provider has a strong relationship with their C-suite. They've been working together for five years. Breaking that trust is going to require more than just better numbers. It's going to require a narrative."

He leaned back, a flicker of something like approval crossing his face. "Go on."

"We need to tell them a story. Not just about what we can do, but about who we are. Why we care. Why we're different." She paused, then added, "I think the proposal should start with a case study. Show them a real transformation we engineered for a similar client."

He was quiet for a long moment. Then he said, "That's exactly what I'd have suggested."

Heat rose to her cheeks. "Really?"

"Really." He pulled a notepad from his drawer and slid it across the desk. "Write it out. I'll help you refine it."

She picked up the pen and started writing. He moved around the desk and sat in the chair beside her, close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating from his body. He leaned in to read what she was writing, and his shoulder brushed hers.

She held her breath.

"That's good," he said. "Keep going."

She wrote for another ten minutes, filling page after page with ideas. He asked questions, challenged her assumptions, pushed her to think deeper. She found herself opening up in ways she hadn't expected, talking about her vision for her career, her desire to make a real impact, her fear of getting stuck in a job that didn't matter.

"I don't want to be someone who just clocks in and clocks out," she said, setting down the pen. "I want to build something. I want to leave a mark."

He was watching her with an intensity that made her stomach flip. "You will."

"How do you know?"

"Because I can see it in you. The drive. The hunger." He paused. "I had it too, when I was your age."

"And now?"

He looked away, out the window. "Now I have a company. A family. Responsibilities." He let out a soft laugh. "Sometimes I wonder if I lost something along the way."

"What do you mean?"

He turned back to her, and for a moment, his guard seemed to drop. "The freedom. The sense that anything was possible. When you're young, you don't have anything to lose. When you get older, you have everything to lose."

The air between them thickened. She could feel the weight of his words, the vulnerability in his admission. She wanted to reach out and touch his hand. She wanted to tell him that he didn't have to be alone. More than anything, she wanted to close the distance between them and feel his mouth on hers.

He leaned in.

She leaned in.

His hand came up to her face, his thumb brushing across her cheekbone with a tenderness that undid her. Her breath caught. Her eyes fluttered closed. She could feel the heat of his breath on her lips, the faint scratch of his stubble against her skin as his fingers slid into her hair, cradling the back of her head. His other hand found her waist, pulling her slightly closer in the chair beside him. The contact sent a shiver through her entire body.

"Mallory," he murmured, his lips so close to hers that she could feel the shape of her name against them.

She tilted her chin up, offering herself to him. Her hand found his chest, feeling the hard planes beneath his shirt, the rapid beat of his heart beneath her palm. He was affected too. This wasn't just her. The realization made her bold, made her slide her hand up to the back of his neck, fingers threading through the short hair at his nape.

He groaned softly, a sound that vibrated between them. His grip on her waist tightened, his thumb tracing a slow circle against the fabric of her blouse, each rotation sending heat pooling lower in her belly. His mouth hovered over hers, close enough that she could taste the coffee on his breath, close enough that she parted her lips in anticipation. The world outside the windows, the city lights, the proposal, the office, all of it faded until there was nothing but the space between their mouths and the electricity crackling in it.

His fingers tightened in her hair, tilting her head back slightly. She could feel the tremor in his hand, the restraint he was fighting. His thumb traced the line of her jaw, then the curve of her lower lip. The touch was featherlight, almost unbearable in its slowness. She wanted to close the gap. She wanted to press her mouth to his and feel the kiss she had been imagining since yesterday. But she waited, suspended in the tension, letting him set the pace.

His phone rang.

The sound shattered the moment like glass. He pulled back, his expression shifting from desire to something like regret. He glanced at the screen. Elena.

He answered it. "Hey."

She couldn't hear what his wife was saying, but she could hear the softness in his voice, the practiced ease of a long marriage. I'm still at the office. Yeah, I know it's late. I'll be home soon. I love you too. Goodnight.

He hung up and set the phone face-down on the desk.

The silence stretched between them, heavy and awkward.

"I should go," she said, standing. "It's late."

"Mallory."

She stopped but didn't turn around.

"That shouldn't have happened." His voice was low, controlled. "I'm sorry."

She turned to face him. "Are you?"

The question hung in the air. He didn't answer.

"I should go," she said again.

"Yes."

She walked to the door, her heart pounding. She paused with her hand on the frame. "Goodnight, Mr. Coleman."

"Goodnight, Mallory."

She walked back to her desk, gathered her things, and left the building without looking back. The night air was cold against her flushed skin. She got in her car and sat there for a long moment, her hands gripping the steering wheel.

She should quit. She should call Piper and tell her she couldn't do this, that the internship wasn't a good fit, that she needed to find something else. Running as far and as fast as she could from Bridger Coleman and everything he represented seemed like the only sane option.

But she wouldn't.

Because even now, even after the near miss and the reminder of his wife, she wanted more. She wanted to feel his hand on her face again, his fingers in her hair, that maddening tenderness in his touch. She wanted to know what would have happened if that phone hadn't rung, whether his mouth would have been as warm and deliberate as his hands.

She started the car and pulled out of the parking garage, her mind spinning with questions she didn't have answers to. The city lights blurred past as she drove home, and all she could think about was the way he had looked at her, the way he had almost kissed her, the way she had almost let him.

She was in trouble. Deep, deep trouble.

And she didn't care.

Conference Room Edge

The conference room smelled like stale coffee and corporate ambition. Mallory had been in this room a dozen times during her first two weeks, but never like this. Never after hours with the lights dimmed low and the door firmly shut.

Bridger stood at the head of the table, his jacket discarded over a chair, sleeves rolled to his elbows. He was reviewing the quarterly projections on the wall screen, but she could feel his attention drift to her every few seconds.

"You're distracted," he said without turning.

"I'm not."

"You keep looking at the door."

Mallory pressed her palms flat against the polished wood of the conference table. "Security does rounds at ten. I checked the schedule."

He turned then, and the weight of his gaze pinned her to her chair. "You've been thinking about this."

It wasn't a question.

"Yes."

"Since the other night?"

"Since I walked into your office on my first day."

Something shifted in his expression. Hunger. Approval. He crossed the room in three long strides and stopped behind her chair, his hands gripping the backrest on either side of her shoulders. She could feel the heat of him, the solid presence at her back.

"Stand up."

She rose on unsteady legs. He didn't touch her, but he didn't need to. The space between them hummed with everything unspoken.

"I told myself I wouldn't do this," he said, his voice low. "I told myself you were off limits. That I could keep my hands to myself."

"And?"

He reached out and traced the collar of her blouse with one finger. "And I've been lying to myself since the moment I hired you."

Mallory's breath caught. "Bridger."

"Here, it's Mr. Coleman. But when we're alone like this, you call me whatever you want."

His hand slid from her collar to the curve of her neck, then lower, following the line of her blouse's buttons. He didn't rush. He watched her face as his fingers moved, cataloging every micro-expression.

"Tell me what you want," he said.

"I want you to touch me."

"Where?"

Her mouth went dry. "Everywhere."

He undid the first button of her blouse. Then the second. His knuckles brushed the lace of her bra, and she shivered.

"You came prepared," he said, noting the matching set beneath her conservative clothes.

"I hoped."

"That's dangerous. Hoping."

"I know."

He finished the buttons and pushed the blouse off her shoulders, letting it fall to the floor behind her. His hands settled on her waist, thumbs tracing the edge of her ribcage through the thin fabric of her bra.

"Turn around."

She obeyed. He unclasped her bra with practiced ease, and she let it slide down her arms. The cool air hit her skin, but his hands were warm, sliding around her to cup her breasts, his thumbs finding her nipples immediately.

"Lean back against me."

She did, and she felt him hard against her ass through his dress pants. He kissed her shoulder, then the curve of her neck, then the spot behind her ear that made her knees weak.

"You have no idea how many times I've imagined this," he murmured against her skin. "How many meetings I sat through watching you take notes, wondering what you'd sound like when I finally got you alone."

"What do I sound like?"

He turned her around and kissed her, finally, and it was nothing like the almost-kiss from the other night. This was possession. His tongue swept into her mouth, and his hands gripped her hips, pulling her against him. She moaned into his mouth, and he swallowed the sound.

He walked her backward until her thighs hit the edge of the conference table.

"Up."

She hoisted herself onto the table, and he stepped between her legs, pushing her skirt up her thighs. His hands were everywhere, greedy and demanding, and she wanted more.

"Lie back."

She lay back on the cool wood, and he loomed over her, his gray eyes dark in the dim light. He traced a line from her collarbone down her sternum, over her stomach, stopping at the waistband of her panties.

"These need to go."

She lifted her hips, and he slid them down her legs. The air hit her wetness, and she felt exposed, vulnerable, and more alive than she had in years.

He didn't touch her there. Not yet. He leaned down and kissed her stomach, then her hip bone, then the inside of her thigh. She squirmed, and he held her still with a firm hand on her hip.

"Don't move."

His breath was hot against her skin. He spread her legs wider, and she felt his mouth hover over her center, not quite touching.

"Look at me."

She propped herself on her elbows and looked down at him, at his salt-and-pepper hair, his broad shoulders, the intensity in his eyes.

"You're going to come on my mouth," he said. "And then you're going to taste yourself on my cock. Understood?"

"Yes."

"Yes, what?"

"Yes, sir."

He smiled, and it was devastating. Then his mouth was on her, and she stopped thinking.

His tongue was precise. He found her clit immediately and circled it with just the right pressure, just the right rhythm. She gasped and fell back onto the table, her hands gripping the edge. He held her open with his thumbs, and he licked into her like he was starving. His tongue traced the length of her, from her entrance to that swollen bundle of nerves, then back down again. She whimpered, her hips tilting toward him.

"You're so wet," he murmured against her. "I can feel how much you want this."

"Bridger, please."

"Please what?"

"Don't stop."

He chuckled, and the vibration of it against her sensitive flesh made her cry out. He sealed his lips around her clit and sucked, gently at first, then harder, alternating between suction and the flat of his tongue. Two fingers slid inside her, curling upward, finding that spot that made her vision blur.

"God, right there."

He fucked her with his fingers while his mouth worked her clit, setting a rhythm that matched the pounding of her heart. She could hear how wet she was, the obscene sounds of his fingers sliding in and out of her, his mouth on her, and she felt the orgasm building, coiling low in her belly, spreading heat through her thighs.

"I'm close," she gasped.

He didn't slow down. He added a third finger, stretching her, and sucked her clit into his mouth hard. She felt the wave cresting, felt herself clench around his fingers.

"Come for me."

The command broke her. She came with a cry, her hips bucking against his face, her walls clenching and pulsing around his fingers. He held her through it, working her through the aftershocks until she was oversensitive and trembling, her thighs shaking against his shoulders.

He stood, and she saw the bulge straining against his zipper. He unbuckled his belt with deliberate slowness, watching her watch him. The leather hissed through the loops. He unbuttoned, unzipped, and freed himself from his boxer briefs, and she saw him for the first time. Thick, hard, the head already slick with precum. She wanted him in her mouth.

"Sit up."

She sat up on shaky arms, and he stepped closer, his cock inches from her face. She could smell him, musky and warm, and her mouth watered.

"Open."

She opened her mouth, and he guided himself inside. He was warm and heavy on her tongue, and she closed her lips around him, tasting salt and skin and him. She looked up at him as she took him deeper, and his breath hitched.

"Fuck, Mal."

His hand found the back of her head, not pushing, just resting there. She set her own rhythm, bobbing her head, using her tongue on the underside of his shaft. She swirled her tongue around the head, tasting the salt of him, before taking him deeper. He was thick, and she had to relax her jaw to take him fully.

"Deeper."

She obeyed, taking him until her nose brushed the coarse hair at his base. He groaned, and his hand tightened in her hair. She pulled back, then took him again, establishing a rhythm that made his thighs tense beneath her hands.

"That's it. Take all of it."

She hollowed her cheeks and sucked, and his hips bucked involuntarily. He pulled back, then thrust forward again, controlling the pace now. She let him, surrendering to the rhythm he set, relaxing her throat as he fucked her mouth. She reached up and cupped his balls, feeling them tighten under her touch.

"Christ, your mouth." His voice was strained, barely controlled. "You feel so fucking good."

She hummed around him, and he hissed through his teeth. His thrusts came faster, shallower, and she knew he was close.

"I'm close," he warned. "Where do you want it?"

She pulled back just enough to speak, her lips still brushing the head of his cock. "In my mouth."

He groaned and thrust deep, holding himself there as he came. She felt him pulse against her tongue, hot and thick, and she swallowed, taking everything he gave her. She worked him through it, milking every last drop, until he softened and pulled out slowly.

She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, and he pulled her to her feet, kissing her hard. She tasted herself on his lips, tasted him on her own.

"We need to clean up." His voice was hoarse, but the command was back. "Security in twenty minutes."

They moved quickly. She found her panties on the floor, her bra, her blouse. He handed her a napkin from the coffee station, and she wiped between her legs. He tucked himself back into his pants, zipped up, straightened his shirt.

By the time they were dressed, the conference room looked professional again. But she knew. The table where she'd just come apart still held the ghost of her body heat.

"Tomorrow," he said, his hand on the door handle. "Same time."

"What if Piper calls?"

He looked at her, and his eyes were steel. "She won't. And if she does, we'll handle it."

He left first, his footsteps echoing down the hall. She waited half a minute, then followed, her legs still shaky, her heart still pounding.

She made it to the elevator before her phone buzzed. A text from Piper.

"How's the late night going? Dad working you hard?"

Mallory stared at the screen. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard. She thought of Bridger's mouth on her, his command in her ear, the taste of him on her tongue.

"He's demanding," she typed. "But I'm learning a lot."

She hit send and stepped into the elevator, the doors closing on the glass tower where she'd just crossed every line she'd ever drawn.

And she couldn't wait to do it again.

Corner Office Claim

The city lights bled through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting the corner office in shades of amber and shadow. Mallory sat across from Bridger's desk, her laptop open, a spreadsheet of quarterly projections filling the screen. The building had gone quiet an hour ago. The cleaning crew had finished their rounds. Security had done their sweep. They were alone.

She had been waiting for this. Dreading it. Craving it.

"You're distracted," Bridger said, not looking up from his own screen. His voice was low, steady. The kind of voice that made her thighs press together without permission.

"I'm fine." She adjusted her blouse, the silk collar suddenly too tight. "Just tired."

"Look at me."

She did. His gray eyes pinned her in place, and she felt the familiar heat bloom across her chest. He studied her for a long moment, then stood. The chair slid back against the carpet with a soft hush. He walked around the desk, each step deliberate, and stopped in front of her.

"This isn't going to work," he said.

"What isn't?"

"Pretending." He reached past her and pressed the lock button on the door. The click echoed in the silence. "I've been doing it all week. Every time you walk past my office. Every time you bend over to plug in a cable. Every time you say 'goodnight, Mr. Coleman' with that look in your eyes."

"I don't have a look."

"You do." His hand found her chin, tilting her face up. "And I can't ignore it anymore."

Her breath caught. "Bridger..."

"I need you to understand something." His thumb traced her lower lip. "Once I start this, I'm not going to stop. I won't be gentle. This isn't some office fling we can walk away from. Do you understand?"

She nodded, her heart hammering.

"Say it."

"I understand."

"Good." He pulled her to her feet, his hands sliding to her waist. "Because I've been watching you for weeks. I've been imagining what I'd do to you on this desk. How you'd sound. How you'd feel." His mouth grazed her ear. "And I'm done imagining."

He kissed her. Not like before. This was claiming. His tongue swept into her mouth, and she tasted coffee and something darker. His hands gripped her hips, pulling her against him, and she felt exactly how ready he was. She moaned into his kiss, her fingers curling into the fabric of his suit jacket.

He broke the kiss and stepped back. "Undress."

She hesitated for half a second. Then she reached for the buttons of her blouse. Her fingers trembled, but she worked them open one by one, letting the silk fall from her shoulders. She wore a black lace bra beneath, and his eyes darkened as he took her in.

"The skirt too."

She unzipped it and let it pool at her feet. She stood before him in nothing but her bra, panties, and heels. The air conditioning raised goosebumps on her skin, but the heat in his gaze burned hotter.

"Come here."

She walked to him, and he turned her around, pressing her chest against the edge of the desk. The wood was cool against her heated skin. His hand slid down her spine, over the curve of her ass, and then his fingers hooked into the waistband of her panties.

"You have no idea," he said, his voice rough, "how many nights I've thought about this. About bending you over this desk and taking what I want."

"Then take it."

He pulled her panties down slowly, dragging the lace down her thighs until she stepped out of them. The cool air hit her exposed flesh, and she shivered. His hand moved between her legs, and she gasped as his fingers found her wet, ready. He slid one finger through her slick folds, gathering her moisture before circling her clit with maddening precision.

"You're so wet," he murmured. "Is this what you've been thinking about? Me bending you over my desk?"

"Yes," she breathed. "Every night."

He added a second finger, pressing them inside her while his thumb continued working her clit. She moaned, her hips pushing back against his hand. He fucked her slowly with his fingers, curling them to find the spot that made her knees weak.

"You're tight," he said. "I'm going to stretch you. I'm going to make you take every inch."

"Please."

He withdrew his fingers, and she heard the wet sound of him sucking them clean. Then the zipper of his pants. The rustle of fabric. And then the head of his cock pressed against her entrance.

"Tell me you want this."

"I want this." Her voice was barely a whisper. "I want you."

He pushed inside her in one smooth, deep stroke. She cried out, her fingers scrabbling for purchase on the polished wood. He was thick, filling her completely, stretching her in ways she hadn't expected. He paused for a moment, letting her adjust, and she could feel him throbbing inside her.

"God, Mal." His voice was strained. "You feel incredible. So tight. So wet."

She whimpered in response, her body clenching around him.

Then he began to move.

He started slow, pulling out until only the tip remained before sliding back in with deliberate control. Each thrust was measured, deliberate, as if he wanted her to feel every inch of him. The edge of the desk bit into her hips, but she didn't care. She was lost in the sensation of him inside her, of his hands gripping her waist, of his breath coming in harsh pants behind her.

"That's it," he growled. "Take it. Take all of it."

He picked up the pace, driving into her harder now. Each thrust pushed her forward against the desk. She braced herself on her forearms, pushing back to meet him. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the office, obscene and perfect.

"You feel that?" he said, his voice rough. "That's mine. You're mine."

"Yes," she gasped. "Yes, Bridger."

He reached around and found her clit, rubbing tight circles as he fucked her. The dual sensation was overwhelming. She felt herself climbing, the pressure building with each stroke.

"I'm close," she gasped.

"Not yet." He slowed, pulling out almost completely before sliding back in with agonizing slowness. "I want to feel you come around me. But not here."

He pulled out, and she whimpered at the loss. He turned her around, lifted her onto the edge of the desk, and spread her legs wide. His mouth found her breast through the lace of her bra, sucking hard, and she arched into him. He pulled the fabric aside, taking her nipple into his mouth, tonguing it until it peaked.

"Please," she begged.

"Please what?"

"Please fuck me."

He smiled, a dark, possessive thing. "That's my girl."

He lifted her legs over his shoulders and drove into her again. The new angle made her cry out, her head falling back as he set a brutal pace. His hands gripped her ass, pulling her onto him with each thrust. The desk creaked beneath them, the lamp rattling.

"Look at me," he commanded. "Look at me while I fuck you."

She raised her head, meeting his eyes. The intensity there was almost too much. He was watching her face, watching every reaction as he drove into her. She felt exposed, vulnerable, seen in a way she'd never been before.

"You're beautiful," he said. "You're so fucking beautiful when you're taking my cock."

She moaned, her walls clenching around him. The pleasure was building again, stronger this time. She could feel herself getting close.

"I'm going to come," she breathed.

"Come for me." His voice was a command. "Come on my cock, Mal. Let me feel it."

And she did. The orgasm crashed over her, wave after wave, and she screamed his name. Her body convulsed around him, milking him, pulling him deeper. He kept thrusting, drawing it out, and then he followed her over the edge, his body shuddering as he spilled inside her. She felt him throbbing, felt the heat of him filling her, and another smaller orgasm rippled through her at the sensation.

He stayed inside her for a long moment, his forehead pressed to hers. His breathing was ragged, his body trembling. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close.

"I didn't hurt you?" he asked.

"No." She kissed his jaw. "It was perfect."

He pulled out slowly, and she felt the loss immediately. She could feel his release trickling down her thigh. He helped her off the desk, and she was unsteady on her feet. He led her to the leather couch in the corner of the office, and she sank into it.

He sat beside her, his hand finding hers. "Mal..."

"Don't." She shook her head. "Don't say this was a mistake."

"It wasn't."

"Good." She turned to face him. "Because I'm not going to stop. I can't. I don't want to."

He studied her for a long moment. "You understand what this means? What you're risking?"

"I know." She reached up and touched his face. "I don't care. I want you. All of you. Even if it's wrong."

He kissed her palm. "It's wrong. But I can't stay away from you."

"Then don't."

He pulled her onto his lap, and she straddled him, still naked. He was half-hard against her thigh, and she rocked against him, feeling him grow harder at the friction.

"Again?" she asked.

"Again." He kissed her neck, his tongue tracing a path to her ear. "But slower this time."

She reached between them, wrapping her hand around his cock. He was slick with their combined fluids, and she stroked him slowly, feeling him harden fully in her grip. He groaned against her neck.

"That's it," he said. "Get me ready for you."

She lifted herself and positioned him at her entrance, then sank down with a moan. He filled her completely, and she paused, adjusting to the fullness. She began to move, setting her own rhythm. His hands found her hips, guiding her, but letting her take control.

"Look at you," he breathed. "Riding me in my office. My daughter's best friend."

"Your intern." She leaned forward, her breasts brushing his chest. "Don't forget that part."

"Never." He thrust up into her. "I'll never forget."

She rode him slow and deep, their eyes locked. She could feel every inch of him, could feel where they were joined. The pleasure built again, but this time it was different. This was intimate, emotional. She felt tears prick at her eyes.

"Bridger..."

"I know." He pulled her closer, his arms wrapping around her. "I feel it too."

She increased her pace, grinding against him, chasing the sensation. His thumb found her clit again, and she gasped. She was close, so close.

"Come with me this time," she said.

"Yes." He gripped her hips tighter. "Together."

She came with a sob, her body clenching around him, and he followed her, his hands gripping her hips so hard she knew she would bruise. She felt him pulsing inside her, felt the warmth of his release, and she collapsed against his chest.

Afterward, they lay tangled on the couch, her head on his chest. The city lights had shifted, the sky darkening further.

"I should go," she said.

"Stay a little longer."

She closed her eyes. "Okay."

When she finally stood to dress, her body ached in the best ways. She pulled on her panties, her skirt, her blouse. She left the top two buttons undone. He watched her from the couch, his shirt unbuttoned, his pants still open.

"Tomorrow," he said. "Same time."

She smiled. "I'll be here."

She walked to the door, unlocked it, and stepped into the hallway. The building was empty. The elevator hummed. She pressed the button and waited, her reflection staring back at her from the polished metal doors.

She looked different. She felt different. She was a woman who had just been thoroughly, completely claimed by her best friend's father.

And she couldn't wait to do it again.

Elevator and Stairwells

It had been four days since the corner office. Four days of stolen glances across conference tables, of Bridger's hand brushing hers when he passed files, of the air between them thickening until she could barely breathe. The addiction had set in quietly, then all at once. Mallory found herself watching the clock, counting the hours until the office emptied and the security rounds passed and she could finally be alone with him again. She caught herself smiling at nothing, her body remembering the weight of his hands, the command in his voice. And each time she remembered, the guilt came too, sharp and insistent. Piper's face flashed in her mind. Her best friend's trusting smile. But the guilt was a distant echo now, drowned out by the roar of her own wanting.

Tonight, she decided to stop waiting.

It was late, well past the hour when respectable employees went home. She knew his schedule. He stayed late on Tuesdays to review quarterly projections. She told herself she was just getting water from the kitchen, stretching her legs. A lie she told herself easily now. Her feet carried her to the elevator, her finger pressing the button for the executive floor before she could second-guess herself.

The elevator doors opened. She stepped inside, pressed the button, and watched the numbers climb. Her heart pounded against her ribs. This was different. Before, he always initiated. He locked the door, he gave the commands, he set the pace. But tonight, she wanted to be the one who took.

The elevator stopped. She walked down the hall, her heels clicking against the polished floor. His office door was open. He sat at his desk, reading glasses on, tie loosened. He looked up when she appeared in his doorway, and something flickered in his gray eyes. Surprise first, then a hunger that made her stomach tighten.

"What are you still doing here?" he asked, but his voice was low, knowing.

"I could ask you the same thing." She stepped inside, closed the door behind her. Didn't lock it. The risk sent a thrill through her.

He leaned back in his chair, watching her approach. "Mallory."

"I've been thinking," she said, stopping in front of his desk. "About the other night. About what you did to me in your office."

"Have you."

"Yes." She reached for his tie, pulled it loose. "And I want more."

He caught her wrist, his grip firm but not painful. "You're playing a dangerous game."

"I know." She met his eyes. "I don't care."

He stood, his body towering over her. For a moment, she thought he would take control, that the power would shift back to him. But she held her ground, reached up to unbutton his shirt.

"Not here," he said, his voice rough. "The elevator."

Her breath caught. "The elevator has cameras."

"I know which ones work and which don't." He took her hand, led her out of the office. "The corner elevator on the east side. The camera's been broken for three months. I've been meaning to fix it."

They walked to the elevator, their footsteps echoing in the empty hallway. He pressed the button, and when the doors opened, he pulled her inside. The doors closed, and they were alone in the small, metal space.

He pushed her against the wall, his mouth finding hers. The kiss was desperate, hungry, nothing like the controlled encounters in his office. His hands slid under her blouse, up her ribcage, thumbs brushing the underside of her breasts. She gasped into his mouth, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. His tongue swept against hers, demanding, and she met him stroke for stroke.

"Tell me what you want," he murmured against her lips.

"I want you to fuck me in this elevator," she said, the words bold and foreign on her tongue. "I want to feel you come apart because of me."

He groaned, his forehead resting against hers. "You're going to be the death of me."

His hands found the button of her skirt, undid it. The fabric fell to her ankles. He lifted her, wrapped her legs around his waist, pressed her back against the cool metal wall. She could feel him hard against her through his trousers, through the thin lace of her panties. The contrast of his heat and the cold metal made her shiver.

She reached between them, palmed him through his pants. He was thick, straining against the fabric. She stroked him, felt him twitch under her hand, watched his eyes darken.

"Mallory," he warned, his voice strained.

"Condom," she breathed.

He reached into his pocket, produced one. "Always prepared."

She took it from him, tore it open with her teeth. She unfastened his trousers, pushed them down his hips along with his boxer briefs. His cock sprang free, hard and flushed. She wrapped her fingers around him, stroked him slowly from base to tip, watched his jaw clench. She rubbed her thumb over the head, felt him pulse in her hand. Then she rolled the condom onto him deliberately, taking her time, watching his face as she did. His eyes were dark, his breathing ragged.

"Look at me," she said, and he did. She guided him to her entrance, held his gaze as she sank down onto him.

The angle was different, the space confined. He was inside her, deep, and she could feel every inch. She wrapped her arms around his neck, began to move. The elevator hummed around them, the machinery groaning as it shifted.

"Fuck, Mallory." His voice was strained. "You feel incredible."

She cut him off with a kiss, her tongue sliding against his. She controlled the pace, rose and fell on him, her back scraping against the metal wall. The risk of discovery, the knowledge that someone could call this elevator at any moment, sent a sharp edge through her pleasure.

He wasn't silent. His breaths were ragged, his hands gripping her hips, guiding her movements. His thumb found her clit, circled it slowly, and she whimpered against his mouth. He pressed harder, moved faster, and she felt herself clench around him.

"I'm close," he warned.

"Not yet." She slowed, tortured him. "I want to feel you lose control first."

She sped up, her thighs burning, her body slick with sweat. The pleasure built, coiling low in her belly. She was close too, the danger pushing her toward the edge.

"Now," she whispered. "Come for me."

He did, his body shuddering against hers, a low groan escaping his lips. The feeling of him coming undone pushed her over, and she followed, her climax washing through her in waves.

They stayed tangled together, breathing hard, the elevator silent except for their ragged breaths. He kissed her forehead, her cheek, her lips.

"That was..." He trailed off, shook his head.

"Addictive," she finished.

He helped her back into her skirt, smoothed her hair. They stepped out of the elevator into the empty lobby, and she felt the shift. The secrecy had become something more. It was no longer just about the sex. It was about the risk and the adrenaline and the way they came together in stolen moments.

She walked back to her desk, her body still humming. She sat down, stared at her computer screen, but she couldn't focus. All she could think about was the next time she could have him, the next risk she would take.

An hour later, she was packing up to leave when her phone buzzed. A text from Bridger: "Stairwell. Now."

She should go home. She should stop this before it went too far. But her feet were already moving, carrying her toward the stairwell door.

The stairwell was harsh and concrete, the fluorescent lights casting long shadows. She found him on the landing between floors, his tie gone, his shirt untucked.

"I couldn't wait," he said, pulling her into his arms. "I need you again."

This time, it was frantic. He pinned her against the concrete wall, his mouth hot on her neck. His hands found her thighs, pushed her skirt up, tore at her pantyhose. The rough scratch of the fabric giving way made her gasp.

"Someone could come through that door," she breathed.

"That's what makes it good." He sank to his knees, pulled her panties down. His mouth found her, and she had to bite her hand to keep from crying out.

His tongue was relentless. He licked into her, tasted her, his hands gripping her thighs to hold her still as she writhed against the cold concrete wall. He found her clit, circled it, then sucked gently, and her knees buckled. She grabbed his hair, pulled him closer, ground against his mouth.

The stairwell echoed with the wet sounds of his tongue, her stifled moans. The concrete was cold against her back, his mouth was hot, and the fear of discovery mixed with the pleasure until she couldn't tell them apart.

He slid a finger inside her, then another, curling them as his tongue worked her clit. She bit down on her hand harder, tasted blood, didn't care. The pressure built, coiling tighter and tighter.

"Come for me," he murmured against her, the vibration of his voice sending her over the edge.

She came against his mouth, her knees buckling. He caught her, held her up, kissed his way back up her body. She could taste herself on his lips.

"See?" he said against her mouth. "Nothing to be afraid of."

But there was. There was everything to be afraid of. Piper and his wife and her career. But standing in the harsh light of the stairwell, his taste on her tongue, she couldn't bring herself to care.

She took his hand, led him back up the stairs. "My desk," she said. "The security cameras don't cover the cubicles."

He followed without hesitation.

Later, after he had left, after she had cleaned herself up and fixed her hair, she sat at her desk and stared at the photo of Piper on her phone. Her best friend. The girl who trusted her.

The guilt was there, sharp and relentless. But so was the thrill. The addiction. The need.

She wasn't the same girl who walked into this building three weeks ago. She was someone else now. Someone who took what she wanted, consequences be damned.

And she couldn't wait to do it again.

Daughter's Visit

The afternoon sun slanted through the floor to ceiling windows of the open plan office, casting long shadows across Mallory's desk. She had been reviewing the quarterly projections for an hour, her mind half on the numbers and half on the way Bridger had looked at her that morning. A brief glance. A slight nod. Nothing that anyone else would notice. But she felt it like a touch.

Her phone buzzed. A text from Piper.

Coming by to see you! Bringing coffee. Don't let my dad work you too hard.

Mallory's stomach dropped. She typed back quickly: Can't wait. I'm in the south wing.

She stood, smoothing her pencil skirt, and walked toward the break room to compose herself. Piper was her best friend. Piper was the reason she had this job. And Piper was about to walk into the office where Mallory had been on her knees three nights ago.

The memory sent heat through her body. Bridger's hands in her hair. His voice low and commanding. Take it deeper. Don't stop until I tell you. She had obeyed. She had loved it.

Now she needed to be normal. The same Mallory who had been Piper's roommate for two years. The girl who had never looked at a man old enough to be her father, let alone let him...

The elevator chimed. Mallory turned, a bright smile already fixed on her face.

"Mal!" Piper swept toward her, two paper cups in hand. She was wearing a cropped sweater and high waisted jeans, her dark hair loose and shiny. She looked exactly like the girl Mallory had known since freshman orientation. "I got you a latte. Extra foam, right?"

"You're a lifesaver." Mallory took the cup, the warmth grounding her. "What are you doing here?"

"Mom's shopping in the city. I told her I'd meet her for dinner, but I wanted to see how my bestie's first week was going." Piper's eyes sparkled. "Dad said you're doing amazing. He never says that about anyone."

Mallory's heart hammered. "He's been a great mentor. Very professional."

The word tasted strange on her tongue. Professional. Yes. That was exactly what they had been. In the boardroom. In his office. In the stairwell.

"I knew you'd kill it," Piper said, linking her arm through Mallory's. "Come on. I want to see your desk. Dad said you're in the south wing now."

They walked together through the quiet corridors. A few junior analysts nodded as they passed. Piper chattered about her own job hunt, about a guy she had matched with on an app, about how proud she was that Mallory was working for her father.

"Seriously, Mal. He's so picky. He's fired three assistants this year. And he told me you're 'exceptionally competent.' That's practically a love letter from him."

Mallory laughed, the sound high and forced. "I'm just doing my job."

"Stop being modest." Piper squeezed her arm. "You're going to run this place someday."

They reached Mallory's desk. Piper set down her coffee and picked up a folder, flipping through it casually. Mallory watched her best friend's fingers move across the papers, remembering how those same fingers had gripped the edge of the boardroom table while Bridger took her from behind. The image was so vivid it made her dizzy.

"This is nice," Piper said, setting the folder down. "You've got a good view."

"Yeah. It's great."

Piper looked at her, head tilted. "You okay? You seem tense."

"Just tired. Lots of late nights." The truth was a knife in her throat.

"Well, you need to take care of yourself. My dad will work you into the ground if you let him." Piper grinned. "Speaking of. I should go say hi before I meet Mom."

No. The word screamed inside her skull.

"He's in a meeting," Mallory said quickly. "Very important. With the legal team."

Piper waved a hand. "I'll just peek in. He won't mind."

She was already walking toward the corner office. Mallory followed, her heels clicking against the polished floor, her heart slamming against her ribs. She watched Piper push open the heavy glass door.

"Dad!"

Bridger looked up from his desk. His face shifted from concentration to warmth in a split second. "Piper. This is a surprise."

"I'm surprising everyone today." Piper leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Just came to check on my best girl."

Bridger's eyes met Mallory's over Piper's shoulder. For a fraction of a second, something dark and possessive flickered there. Then it was gone, replaced by the calm, paternal smile she had seen him use a hundred times.

"She's been an excellent addition to the team," he said. "Very dedicated."

"I told you she would be." Piper perched on the edge of his desk. Mallory's desk. The one she had been bent over two days ago. "You should give her a raise."

"She's an intern."

"Then promote her."

Bridger laughed, a low, controlled sound. "I'll consider it."

Mallory stood in the doorway, clutching her coffee cup like a shield. She watched Piper swing her legs, watched Bridger lean back in his chair, watched them play out a scene of normal family affection while everything inside her screamed with the wrongness of what she had done. What she wanted to keep doing.

"You should take her to dinner," Piper said. "Show her the good steak place. You know, a proper welcome."

"That's a good idea." Bridger's voice was steady. "I'll arrange it."

And Mallory knew exactly what that dinner would be. What it would lead to. The anticipation coiled low in her belly, hot and shameful.

Piper slid off the desk. "I should go. Mom's waiting." She hugged Mallory tightly. "You're doing amazing. I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks, Pipe." The words came out rough. Mallory cleared her throat. "I'll text you later."

"You better."

Piper walked out, her footsteps fading toward the elevator. The door slid shut. The office fell silent.

Mallory stood frozen in the doorway, her breath shallow. Bridger hadn't moved. His eyes were on her, dark and hungry.

She stepped inside and closed the door.

The lock clicked.

"That was close," she whispered.

Bridger stood, rounding the desk with slow, deliberate steps. "Too close."

"She doesn't suspect anything."

"No." He stopped inches from her. "She trusts you."

The words were a weight on her chest. Guilt and shame tangled together, and underneath it all, a fierce, aching need that made her knees weak.

"I hate this," she said. "I hate lying to her."

"Then stop."

"I can't." She looked up at him. "I don't want to stop. Not yet."

Something broke in his expression. The controlled mask cracked, and she saw the raw hunger beneath. He reached out, his hand cupping her jaw, his thumb tracing her lower lip.

"You're going to destroy me," he said, his voice rough.

"Good."

He kissed her. It wasn't gentle. It was desperate, hungry, his tongue sliding into her mouth, his hands gripping her hips. She moaned against him, the sound swallowed by his kiss. Her coffee cup hit the floor, spilling across the carpet.

He pressed her back against his desk, his mouth hot on her neck, teeth grazing the sensitive skin below her ear. She gasped, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. His hands slid down her sides, gripping her thighs, lifting her onto the desk's edge. Papers scattered. Something crashed to the floor. Neither of them cared.

"I need you," she gasped against his mouth. "Right now."

He didn't answer. He turned her around, pressing her against the glass door, her palms flat against the cold surface. She could see the empty office beyond, the desks, the potted plants, the elevator where Piper had just disappeared.

"Anyone could see," she breathed.

"I know." He pushed her skirt up, his fingers finding her wet and ready through her panties. "You think I care?"

She didn't answer. She couldn't. His fingers slipped beneath the fabric, sliding through her slick heat, and she was already trembling. He found her clit and circled it slowly, deliberately, while his other hand gripped her hip to hold her still.

"You're so wet," he said, his mouth hot against her ear. "Thinking about your best friend walking in on us?"

"Yes. No. I don't know." She pushed back against his hand. "Just fuck me. Please."

He withdrew his fingers and she heard him unbuckling his belt. The sound of his zipper was loud in the quiet room. Then he hooked his fingers into her panties and pulled them aside. She felt the blunt head of his cock against her entrance, and she held her breath.

He was inside her in one smooth, hard thrust.

She cried out, her forehead pressing against the glass. He was deep, so deep, and he didn't give her time to adjust. He started moving immediately, fast and rough, his breath ragged in her ear. His hands gripped her hips, controlling the pace, pulling her back onto him with each thrust.

"This is what you wanted," he said, his voice strained. "Her standing right there, and you thinking about me inside you."

"Yes." She was crying. She didn't know when she had started. The tears were hot on her cheeks. "I'm a terrible person."

"No." He slowed, his thrusts becoming deeper, more deliberate. Each one pressed against something inside her that made her vision blur. "You're the best thing that's happened to me in years."

She turned her head, meeting his eyes over her shoulder. His face was twisted with emotion, pleasure and pain and something that looked terrifyingly like love.

"I don't want to stop," she said.

"I'm not asking you to."

He drove into her harder, his hand sliding up her stomach to grip her breast through her blouse. She arched into his touch, her nipples aching, her whole body on fire. He found the button of her blouse with his free hand, working it open, then pushed her bra aside to pinch her nipple between his thumb and finger. The sensation shot through her like electricity.

"God, Bridger..."

"Say my name again."

"Bridger. Bridger, please."

He groaned, his pace quickening. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the office, obscene and intoxicating. She could feel her orgasm building, a tight coil low in her belly, growing tighter with every thrust.

"Come for me," he commanded. "Come on my cock while your best friend's coffee is still warm."

The words shattered her. She came with a sob, her body clenching around him, her orgasm ripping through her with brutal intensity. Her legs shook. Her fingers slid against the glass. He kept thrusting through her climax, drawing it out until she thought she might collapse.

He followed a moment later, his hips jerking against her, his hands gripping her hips so hard she knew there would be bruises. She felt him pulse inside her, felt the heat of him filling her, and another smaller wave crashed through her at the sensation.

They stayed like that for a long moment, breathing hard, pressed together against the glass. She could feel his heart hammering against her back. His forehead rested on her shoulder, his breath hot and uneven on her neck. Then he pulled out, and she felt his seed dripping down her thigh.

He handed her a tissue. She cleaned herself up, her hands shaking. He buckled his belt. Neither of them spoke.

Finally, she turned to face him. His tie was crooked. His eyes were dark and unreadable.

"I need to go home," she said. "I need to think."

"Mallory." He caught her wrist. "Don't run from this."

"I'm not running." She pulled free. "I just need to breathe."

She walked out of his office, past the spilled coffee, past the empty desks, past the elevator where Piper had stood. She didn't look back.

But she felt his eyes on her the whole way.

In the bathroom, she locked herself in a stall and sat down, her head in her hands. She could still smell him on her skin. She could still feel him inside her. And underneath the guilt, underneath the shame, there was only one thought.

She wanted more.

She wanted him again. Tomorrow. Tonight. Always.

And that terrified her more than anything.

Weekend Strategy

The overnight bag sat on Mallory's bed, half packed, staring at her like an accusation. She'd told Piper she was helping her mom with a weekend project. She'd told her mom she had a work retreat. Two lies, smooth and easy, sliding off her tongue like she'd been doing this her whole life.

She didn't recognize herself anymore.

Three weeks ago she was Mallory Coomer, ambitious intern who followed every rule and colored inside every line. Now she was the woman who packed a lace chemise for a hotel room booked by her best friend's father.

Her phone buzzed. Bridger's name on the screen.

Room 714. King suite. Arrive at six. I'll be waiting.

No hello. No question. Just a command that sent heat curling through her stomach.

She typed back: See you soon.

Her hands trembled as she zipped the bag. Not from fear. From anticipation. From the terrible, thrilling knowledge that she was walking into this with her eyes wide open.

The hotel was forty minutes outside the city, far enough from familiar faces, close enough to be convenient. She drove with the windows down, letting the autumn air cool her flushed skin. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, and she thought about how beautiful everything looked when she was about to burn her life down.

She parked in the underground garage, took the elevator to the seventh floor, and walked down the hallway on legs that felt steadier than she expected. Room 714. She knocked once.

The door opened.

Bridger stood there in a dark button-down shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbows, top button undone. His hair was slightly damp, like he'd just showered. Those steel-gray eyes met hers, and for a moment neither of them spoke.

Then he reached out, took her bag from her shoulder, and pulled her inside.

The room was beautiful. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline. A king bed with white linens. Soft lighting that made everything feel intimate and separate from the real world.

She barely noticed any of it because his mouth was on hers before the door clicked shut.

This kiss was different. Slower. Deeper. He cradled her face in his hands like she was something precious, and the tenderness of it made her chest ache. In the office everything was frantic, stolen, desperate. Here they had time. Here they had a whole night.

He pulled back, resting his forehead against hers. "Hi."

"Hi."

"I told Elena I had a two-day strategy meeting with the West Coast team." His voice was low, rough. "I've never done anything like this before. Lied to her face and booked a hotel room."

"How did it feel?"

"Terrifying." He kissed the corner of her mouth. "Worth it."

She stepped back, taking him in. The king bed. The champagne on ice. The way he looked at her like she was the only thing in the room.

"You planned all this."

"I've been planning it since the night you walked into my office." He moved closer, hands settling on her hips. "I've been trying not to want you, Mallory. Every day. Every time you walk past my door. Every time Piper mentions your name at dinner."

Piper's name hit like a splash of cold water. She should have felt guilty. She did feel guilty, somewhere deep where she kept the part of her that still knew right from wrong. But standing here, with his hands on her body and his eyes on her face, the guilt was a distant echo.

"I don't want to think about her right now," she said. "Or Elena. Or the office. I just want to be here with you."

His expression softened. "Come here."

He led her to the bed, sat down, pulled her onto his lap. She straddled him, her skirt riding up, her hands resting on his shoulders. The position felt different from their usual encounters. Less about taking and more about holding.

"Tell me what you're thinking," he said.

She laughed, a little breathless. "That's dangerous."

"I want to know."

She looked down at where her fingers traced the collar of his shirt. "I'm thinking about how I used to be someone reliable. The friend who showed up with soup when you were sick. The daughter who never missed a Sunday call." She met his eyes. "I don't feel like that person anymore."

"What do you feel like?"

"Someone who would do it all again. Every choice that led me here."

His hands tightened on her waist. "Mallory."

"I mean it. I know what I'm risking. My career. My friendship with Piper. Everything I thought I knew about myself." She swallowed hard. "But when I'm with you, none of it matters. And that scares me more than getting caught."

He kissed her then, soft and searching, like he was trying to pour everything he couldn't say into the press of his lips. She melted into him, letting the kiss deepen, letting her hands slide into his hair.

When they broke apart, his voice was rough. "I'm willing to risk my marriage. My company. My reputation. I've never said that out loud to anyone, but it's true. You make me want to be reckless."

"That's a lot of power to give a twenty-three-year-old."

He smiled, a real smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes. "You're not just any twenty-three-year-old."

She kissed him again, harder this time, and he laid her back on the bed. The weight of him above her felt right, grounding, like she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

He unbuttoned her blouse slowly, kissing each inch of skin as it was revealed. His mouth traced a path from her collarbone to her sternum, and she arched into him, fingers gripping the sheets.

"I want to take my time with you," he murmured against her skin. "No rush tonight. No risk of someone walking in. Just us and this entire night."

She nodded, not trusting her voice.

He slid her blouse off her shoulders, then reached behind her to unclasp her bra. The cool air hit her skin, and then his mouth was on her, warm and slow, and she let her head fall back, eyes closing.

Everything about this was different. In the office, their encounters had a frantic edge, a desperation born of stolen moments and closed doors. Here, he explored her like he had all the time in the world. Like she was a landscape he wanted to memorize.

He took his time with her breasts, kissing and licking until she was squirming beneath him. His tongue traced slow circles around one nipple while his fingers rolled the other, a gentle pinch that sent sparks of pleasure racing down her spine. She gasped, back arching off the mattress, pressing herself closer to his mouth.

"You're so responsive," he breathed, and the warmth of his breath against her wet skin made her shiver. "Every time I touch you, you react. It makes me want to touch you everywhere."

"Then don't stop."

He didn't. He moved lower, pressing his lips to her stomach, her hips, the hollow of her thigh. He unbuttoned her skirt, slid it down her legs, and looked at her lying there in nothing but lace underwear.

"You're beautiful," he said. "I don't think I've said that enough. You're beautiful, and you're brave, and you have no idea what you do to me."

She reached for him, pulling him down for another kiss. "Show me."

He undressed slowly, letting her watch. His body was strong, still fit at fifty, with broad shoulders and a chest dusted with gray hair. She traced the lines of him, the muscles in his arms, the curve of his shoulders. He was solid and real, and she wanted to memorize every inch.

When he was naked above her, skin warm against hers, she wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him closer. He kissed her again, deep and slow, and she felt him against her thigh, hard and ready.

But he didn't rush. He reached down, slid her underwear off, and then his fingers found her, tracing, exploring, learning. She gasped against his mouth, hips bucking into his hand.

"I want to feel you come apart," he said, his voice a low murmur against her ear. "I want to watch you."

His fingers moved in slow circles, and she clutched his shoulders, breath coming in ragged gasps. The tension built slowly, a gradual climb instead of the sharp peaks of their office encounters. She felt every sensation amplified, every stroke deliberate.

One finger slipped inside her, then two, curling upward in a slow rhythm that made her vision blur. His thumb kept its maddening circles on her clit, and the combination of sensations built a wave inside her that rose higher with each passing second. Her thighs trembled. Her breath came in short, desperate bursts.

"Bridger." His name came out broken.

"Let go, Mallory. I've got you."

And she did. She came apart in his hands, shuddering against him, and he held her through it, whispering words she couldn't quite hear, his lips pressed to her forehead.

When she came back to herself, he was still above her, still patient, still waiting. She reached down, wrapped her hand around him, and guided him to where she needed him most.

"Now," she said. "Please."

He entered her slowly, inch by inch, and she felt every second of it. The stretch, the fullness, the way he filled her completely. He paused when he was all the way in, letting her adjust, letting her feel the weight of him inside her.

"Look at me," he said.

She opened her eyes. His face was inches from hers, his gray eyes dark with want, his jaw tight.

"I don't want to hide from this," he said. "Not tonight. I want to see you. I want you to see me."

She nodded, and he began to move.

Slow. Deep. Each thrust deliberate, each one pushing her higher. She wrapped her legs tighter around him, pulling him deeper, and he groaned against her throat.

"You feel like heaven," he said. "Like something I don't deserve."

"Don't." She cupped his face, made him look at her. "Don't do that. We're in this together."

He kissed her, and the rhythm changed. Became more urgent. His hips drove into her harder, faster, and she met him thrust for thrust, climbing toward another peak.

The sound of their bodies filled the room, skin against skin, breath mingling, the wet heat of their connection building toward something inevitable. She dug her fingers into his shoulders, feeling the muscles flex beneath her grip as he drove into her. The angle shifted, and the head of his cock dragged against that spot inside her that made stars burst behind her eyelids.

"Oh God, right there," she gasped, and he adjusted his hips, hitting that same spot with every thrust. The pressure built inside her, coiling tighter and tighter, and she could feel herself clenching around him, pulling him deeper.

"I can feel you getting close," he growled against her neck. "You're so tight. So wet. I can feel every pulse."

His words sent her over the edge. She came with a cry that she muffled against his shoulder, her body clamping down around him in waves. He followed moments later, his body tensing, his groan low and raw as he spilled into her, his hips jerking with the force of his release.

They lay there afterward, tangled together, breathing hard. The city lights glittered through the window, and she traced patterns on his chest, feeling the steady thump of his heart beneath her fingers.

"I don't want to go back," she said quietly. "To the way things were before."

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "We can't stay here forever."

"I know. But tonight, we can pretend."

He was quiet for a long moment. Then he said, "I meant what I said earlier. About risking everything. I need you to understand that. This isn't a game to me."

She lifted her head to look at him. "It's not a game to me either."

"Then what is it?"

The question hung in the air between them. She thought about all the ways she could answer. An affair. A mistake. A fantasy come to life. But none of them felt right.

"I don't know yet," she said honestly. "But I want to find out."

He pulled her closer, and they lay there in the quiet, the weight of the future pressing down on them. But for now, there was only this room. This bed. This man who made her feel like she was worth the risk.

Later, they made love again. Slower this time, almost reverent. He laid her on her stomach and kissed his way down her spine, his lips tracing each vertebra like he was reading braille. The sensation was exquisite, each press of his mouth sending shivers cascading through her body. When he reached the small of her back, his tongue dipped into the dimples above her buttocks, and she felt a fresh wave of arousal wash over her.

"You're so beautiful here," he murmured, pressing a kiss to the curve of her hip. "Every inch of you."

His hands followed his mouth, kneading her thighs, parting them gently. She felt exposed, vulnerable in a way that was new and terrifying and thrilling. In this position she couldn't see him, couldn't watch his face, could only feel every touch amplified tenfold.

When he entered her from behind, his chest pressed to her back, his mouth at her ear, she felt tears prick at her eyes. The fullness was different from this angle, deeper somehow, hitting places she didn't know existed. His arm wrapped around her waist, fingers finding her clit, and he began to move in long, slow strokes.

"I can feel every part of you," he whispered against her ear. "You're so open to me. So trusting."

She couldn't respond. She could only grip the sheets and let the sensations wash over her in waves. His hips rocked against hers, each thrust pushing her deeper into the mattress, and the combination of his cock inside her and his fingers on her clit was too much, too intense, too perfect.

Her orgasm built slowly this time, a slow burn instead of a wildfire. She felt it rising from somewhere deep inside her, spreading through her limbs, making her fingers and toes tingle. When it finally crested, she cried out, her body shuddering beneath him, and he followed her over the edge, his body covering hers, his breath hot against her neck.

Not from sadness. From the overwhelming intensity of being seen, wanted, held.

Afterward, they showered together, and he washed her hair with gentle hands. The warm water cascaded over them, and she leaned back against his chest, feeling his softening cock against her lower back, his arms wrapped around her waist. He massaged shampoo into her scalp, his fingers working in slow circles, and she let her eyes close, savoring the intimacy of this simple act.

They ordered room service and ate naked in bed, laughing at nothing. They talked about things that had nothing to do with the office or Piper or the lies they'd told to be here.

He told her about his childhood, about growing up with nothing and building himself into something. She told him about her father, who died when she was sixteen, and how she'd been looking for someone to look up to ever since.

"Is that what I am to you?" he asked. "Someone to look up to?"

She considered the question. "You're more than that. You're someone who makes me feel like I can have things I never thought I deserved."

He set down his wine glass and pulled her into his lap. "You deserve everything, Mallory. Don't ever doubt that."

She kissed him, soft and sweet, and felt something shift inside her. Something that felt dangerously close to love.

In the morning, they woke tangled together, the sunlight streaming through the curtains. She watched him sleep for a few minutes, memorizing the lines of his face, the gray in his stubble, the way his hand rested on her hip even in sleep.

When he opened his eyes, he smiled. "Good morning."

"Good morning."

"I've got to check out by late morning."

She nodded, the weight of reality settling back onto her shoulders. "I know."

He pulled her closer. "We have a few hours."

They made love one last time, slow and tender, and she let herself feel every sensation, every touch, every whispered word. He entered her gently, their bodies face to face, and they moved together in a rhythm that felt like conversation. His eyes never left hers, and she watched the pleasure build on his face, the way his jaw tightened and his breath quickened.

"I want to remember this," he said, his voice thick. "Every detail. The way you look right now. The way you feel."

"Then don't close your eyes."

He didn't. He watched her as she came, his name on her lips, and she watched him as he followed her over the edge, his expression raw and unguarded in a way she'd never seen before.

When it was over, they showered separately, dressed in silence, and packed their bags.

At the door, he kissed her one last time. "This isn't over."

"I know."

"I don't know how we're going to make this work, but I'm not letting you go."

She pressed her forehead to his. "Then we figure it out together."

He kissed her again, and then she walked out the door, down the hallway, into the elevator. The ride down felt like falling. The drive home felt like waking up from a dream.

But when her phone buzzed with his name, she smiled.

I'm already counting the days until I see you again.

She typed back: Monday. Your office. After hours.

His response came instantly: I'll be waiting.

She set the phone down and looked at herself in the rearview mirror. The woman staring back at her had a secret smile and a light in her eyes that hadn't been there before. She was a woman who had spent the night in the arms of a man who was not hers to have. A woman who had crossed lines she could never uncross.

And she didn't regret a single thing.

Contract Renewal

The elevator chimed softly as the doors slid open, revealing the dimmed hallway of Coleman Industries. Mallory stepped out, her heels clicking against the polished marble floor. The entire floor was empty except for the light glowing from the corner office at the end of the hall. She had texted him twenty minutes ago, letting him know she was coming. He had replied with a single word: Good.

She wore a deep burgundy blouse today, unbuttoned one button lower than office appropriate. Her black pencil skirt hugged her hips, and she had left her hair down, cascading over her shoulders in loose waves. This was not the Mallory who had walked into this building three months ago clutching her laptop like armor. That girl was gone, replaced by someone who knew exactly what she wanted and was no longer afraid to take it.

The office door was unlocked. She pushed it open and stepped inside.

Bridger sat behind his desk, jacket off, sleeves rolled up. He was reviewing documents, but the moment she entered, his eyes lifted and fixed on her with that familiar intensity. He set down his pen and leaned back in his chair, studying her.

"You look different tonight," he said.

"I feel different." She closed the door behind her and turned the lock. "We need to talk."

A slow smile spread across his face, but his eyes remained serious. "About what?"

"The internship." She walked toward his desk, stopping a few feet away. "It ends next month. We both know what happens after that."

"I've already spoken to HR about extending it."

"That's not what I'm talking about."

He stood up, circling around the desk until he stood in front of her. He was so much taller than her, so much broader. For a moment, she felt like the nervous intern again. Then she remembered everything they had done, every line they had crossed, and she steadied herself.

"Tell me what you want, Mal."

She reached up and unbuttoned the second button of her blouse, then the third. His eyes followed her fingers.

"I want terms," she said. "I want to know what this is. I'm not going to be your secret forever without knowing what I'm signing up for."

He stepped closer, so close she could feel the heat radiating off his body. "You want a contract."

"I want honesty. I want to know if this has an expiration date."

His hand came up to cup her face, thumb tracing along her cheekbone. "That depends on you."

"I don't want it to end." The words came out before she could stop them, raw and unguarded. "I know that sounds crazy. I know everything about this is wrong. But I don't want to stop."

He kissed her then, deep and possessive, his hand tangling in her hair. When he pulled back, his eyes were dark. "I'm not letting you go."

"Then prove it."

His hands moved to her waist, gripping tightly. "How?"

"Extend my internship. But not just that." She met his gaze, holding steady. "I want to keep working for you. Directly. No other managers. Just you and me."

"Done."

"And I want to know that when we're here, after hours, it's ours. No guilt, no hesitation. I want you to treat me like I belong to you."

His breath hitched. "Mallory..."

"I mean it. I've spent three months trying to convince myself this was a mistake. It's not. You're not. And I'm done pretending."

He stared at her for a long moment, then something shifted in his expression. The control he always held so tightly seemed to loosen, just a fraction. He looked at her like she was the one who had power now.

"You're going to ruin me," he whispered.

"Good."

He laughed, a low rough sound. Then he grabbed her by the hips and lifted her onto the edge of his desk, spreading her knees apart so he could stand between them.

"If we're renegotiating terms," he said, his voice dropping to that commanding register that made her shiver, "then I have conditions too."

"Name them."

"You don't hold back from me. Ever. If you want something, you tell me. If you need something, you ask. I want all of you, not just the parts you think are acceptable."

She nodded, breath quickening.

"And when we're here, you're mine. Completely. I don't share, and I don't stop until you're satisfied."

"Yes."

He kissed her again, harder this time, his hands roaming up her thighs. She arched into him, gripping his shoulders as he pressed her back against the cool wood of the desk. Papers scattered, pens rolled away. She didn't care.

His mouth trailed down her neck, teeth grazing her skin. "I've been thinking about this all day," he murmured against her collarbone. "Couldn't focus on a single report."

"Me neither." She gasped as his hand slid up her thigh, finding her already wet. "God, Bridger, I need you."

"I know." He unbuttoned her blouse completely, pushing it aside to reveal the black lace bra underneath. His eyes darkened. "You wore this for me."

"Yes."

He unhooked her bra with practiced ease, sliding the straps down her shoulders until her breasts were bare. The cool air hit her skin, making her nipples tighten. He took one in his mouth, sucking gently, then harder. She moaned, threading her fingers through his salt-and-pepper hair.

"I want to feel you," she breathed. "All of you."

He straightened up, looking down at her sprawled across his desk. Her blouse was open, her skirt hiked up, her panties visible beneath the sheer black fabric. She must have looked wanton, desperate, completely undone. And she didn't care.

"Turn around," he said.

She obeyed, sliding off the desk and turning to face it. He pressed her forward until she was bent over the surface, her palms flat against the wood. She heard him unbuckling his belt, the slide of his zipper, and then his hands were on her hips, pulling her skirt up higher.

He didn't remove her panties, just pulled them aside. She felt the tip of him pressing against her, teasing, waiting.

"Look at you," he said, his voice rough. "So ready for me. So beautiful."

"Please."

He entered her in one smooth thrust, filling her completely. She cried out, gripping the edge of the desk as he began to move. His pace was relentless, driving into her with a rhythm that made her forget her own name. She felt his hands gripping her hips, his breath hot against her neck as he leaned over her.

"This is what you wanted," he growled. "To be mine. To be claimed."

"Yes, yes, yes."

He reached around and found her clit, pressing in firm circles as he thrust. Her legs trembled. The pressure built and built, coiling tight in her core. She was so close she could taste it.

"Come for me, Mal."

And she did, shattering against his desk, waves of pleasure crashing through her as he continued to move, drawing out every last tremor. Then he pulled out and turned her around, lifting her onto the desk again. Before she could catch her breath, he was on his knees in front of her.

"I'm not done with you," he said, burying his face between her legs.

She fell back onto her elbows, watching him. The sight of this powerful man kneeling before her, his mouth working her sensitive flesh, made her heart race. He was relentless, pushing her toward another peak before she had fully recovered from the first.

"Bridger..."

He looked up at her, his chin wet, his eyes blazing. "You said you wanted terms. Here's mine: I'm going to make you come until you can't remember your own name. Every time. Forever."

His tongue found her clit again, and she bucked against his mouth, too sensitive, too overwhelmed. He held her hips down and kept going, relentless, until she came again with a sob of pleasure.

Only then did he stand up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He looked at her lying there, boneless and gasping, and smiled.

"Are we agreed?" he asked.

She laughed weakly, trying to catch her breath. "I think you've made your point."

He helped her sit up, pulling her close. She leaned against his chest, feeling his heartbeat slow. His arms wrapped around her, holding her tight.

"I mean it," he said quietly. "I don't know how this ends. I don't know if it ends. But I know I can't go back to the way things were before you."

"Neither can I."

He kissed the top of her head. "Then I guess we're in this together."

She looked up at him, meeting his gaze. "Promise me something."

"Anything."

"Don't make me regret this. Don't make me feel like I'm just a distraction."

His expression softened. He cupped her face in his hands, thumbs brushing away the tears she hadn't realized were falling. "You are the farthest thing from a distraction. You are the first thing in years that has made me feel alive."

"I love you." The words slipped out before she could stop them. She froze, expecting him to pull away, to tell her she was being naive. But he didn't.

"I know." He kissed her forehead. "I love you too, Mal. And that terrifies me."

She laughed, a wet, broken sound. "Good. It should."

He helped her off the desk, straightening her skirt and handing her the blouse. She buttoned it slowly, watching him tuck himself back in, smooth his hair, become the CEO again. But she saw the difference now. She saw the crack in his armor, the vulnerability he showed only to her.

"So what happens tomorrow?" she asked.

"Tomorrow, you come to work as usual. I'll submit the extension paperwork. And after hours, you come to me."

"And the weekends?"

He paused. "I need to figure that out. But I will."

She nodded, accepting that for now. It was enough. It had to be.

He walked her to the elevator, his hand resting on the small of her back. When the doors opened, he pulled her inside and kissed her one last time, deep and thorough.

"Goodnight, Mal."

"Goodnight, Mr. Coleman."

The doors closed. She watched him through the glass, standing there, hands in his pockets, already missing her. And she smiled.

She was his. And he was hers. And nothing was ever going to be the same.
