Crisis Boarding
The email arrived just past six on a Thursday, and Lauren Bennett nearly deleted it as spam.
She was packing her desk, the cardboard box half full of personal effects from six years at Cobb Maritime. Her resignation sat in an envelope in her bag, her new position at a mid-tier logistics firm already secured. A sensible move. A safe move.
Then she read the subject line: Urgent Partnership Opportunity Decker Global Logistics.
Her finger froze above the delete key.
The email was short, direct, signed by someone named David Mott, Executive Assistant to Tristan Decker. It requested her presence at Atlantic Aviation in forty-five minutes. A private jet would be waiting. All questions would be answered on board.
Lauren read it three times, her pulse climbing with each pass.
Tristan Decker. The Tristan Decker. He had built Decker Global into a logistics empire that rivaled nations. His photograph appeared on the cover of Forbes beneath headlines about billion-dollar supply chains and ruthless efficiency. Over the past year, he had personally poached three of Cobb's best analysts, each one vanishing into his organization and never looking back.
She should call Brooke.
Her mentor would tell her to be cautious. To ask questions. To not fly off into the night with a man whose reputation for intensity preceded him.
Instead, Lauren grabbed her bag and walked out.
The Uber ride was a blur of streetlights and adrenaline. She texted Brooke a quick message: Following a lead. Will explain later. Then she stared at her phone, watching the minutes tick past, her reflection ghostly in the dark glass.
Atlantic Aviation's private terminal gleamed like a spaceship against the gray evening sky. Lauren gave her name to the attendant, who nodded and escorted her through security without questions, past empty lounges and polished corridors, until they emerged onto the tarmac.
The Gulfstream G650 sat waiting, its engines humming a low promise.
The door opened before she reached it. A man in his late thirties filled the frame, broad shoulders straining against a tailored charcoal suit. Dark hair swept back from a face that belonged on magazine covers. Gray eyes the color of winter storms fixed on her with an intensity that made her steps falter.
Tristan Decker extended his hand. "Ms. Bennett. Thanks for coming on such short notice."
His voice was deep, the kind that expected obedience and usually received it.
Lauren took his hand. His grip was firm, warm, and lasted a beat longer than a standard business greeting. "Mr. Decker. Your email was vague."
"That was intentional." He stepped aside, gesturing into the cabin. "Come aboard. We've got a lot to discuss and not much time."
The interior was all cream leather and polished wood, soft lighting and the smell of money. A conference table dominated the forward section, documents spread across its surface. Two leather chairs faced each other, and a laptop sat open, its screen glowing with data.
Lauren settled into the chair across from him, her analytical mind already cataloging details. The tension in his jaw. The way his fingers drummed once against the table before stilling. The expensive watch on his wrist that probably cost more than her annual salary.
This was not a social call.
Tristan didn't sit. He stood, one hand braced against the table, leaning toward her with an energy that filled the cabin. "I'll be direct, Ms. Bennett. Decker Global is facing a crisis. Our Southeast Asian supply chain is collapsing. A competitor, Andrew Dwyer, has exploited a vulnerability in our shipping routes through the Strait of Malacca. We're losing millions per day, and if we don't resolve this within the next three weeks, we lose the entire region."
Lauren's mind raced, connecting dots. The recent dip in Decker Global's stock. The rumors of trouble in the Pacific. "You need an analyst."
"I need you." The words landed hard in the space between them. "Specifically, I need your expertise in maritime logistics optimization. Your work at Cobb on the Rotterdam corridor was exceptional. You identified inefficiencies that three of my teams missed."
She blinked. "You've been watching my work?"
"I've been watching you for six months." He said it without apology, without hesitation. "I was preparing to make you an offer when this crisis broke. Now the timeline has accelerated."
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a document, sliding it across the table. The contract was thick, the pages crisp and white.
"Ten percent above your current salary. Full benefits. A guaranteed position at Decker Global upon completion of the engagement. And a bonus that'll make your resignation from Cobb look like a rounding error."
Lauren picked up the contract, scanning the numbers. Her breath caught in her throat. The bonus alone was more than she had saved in her entire career.
"This is a temporary partnership," Tristan continued, his voice dropping slightly. "You'll work directly with me. On site. That means traveling on this jet, staying on my yacht, operating from wherever the crisis takes us. For the duration of the engagement, your time is mine."
The last word hung in the air, charged with something that went beyond business.
Lauren looked up from the contract. His gray eyes held hers, unwavering. There was no flirtation in his gaze, no suggestion of impropriety. Just absolute focus and a confidence that bordered on arrogance.
But there was something else. A heat that flickered beneath the surface, barely contained.
"Three weeks on your yacht," she said, her voice steady despite the flutter in her chest. "Just the two of us."
"And my crew. And a command center staffed with the best logistics team in the world." A ghost of a smile crossed his lips. "You'll have everything you need to succeed. I don't cut corners, Ms. Bennett. Not with my business. And not with my people."
She read the contract more carefully, her analyst brain picking through clauses and terms. Everything was above board. Generous, even. The kind of offer that could change her entire trajectory.
But it meant surrendering control. Operating on his terms, in his space, under his authority. Three weeks of constant proximity to a man whose presence made the air feel thicker.
"The crisis," she said, buying time. "How bad is it really?"
Tristan's jaw tightened. "Bad enough that I'm recruiting talent from a competitor this late on a weeknight. Bad enough that I'm personally overseeing every decision. If Dwyer succeeds, Decker Global loses its foothold in Asia. We become a regional player instead of a global force. I don't accept that outcome."
"And you think I can help."
"I know you can." He moved around the table, close enough that she caught the scent of his cologne. Something woodsy and expensive, undercut with warm skin. "Your analysis of the Rotterdam corridor identified a seven percent efficiency gain that no one else saw. You don't just look at data. You understand the systems behind it. You see the patterns."
He stopped beside her chair, looking down at the contract. "I need that mind, Ms. Bennett. I need it working on my problem. And I'm willing to pay whatever it takes to get it."
Lauren's hand trembled slightly as she turned the page. She steadied it, refusing to show weakness.
"Why me?" she asked. "There are dozens of analysts with more experience."
"Because experience breeds caution. And caution loses wars." His voice dropped, intimate and intense. "You're hungry. I can see it in your work. You want to prove something. You want to be at the table where decisions are made, not just writing reports for people who ignore them. I'm offering you that table."
He was right. The bastard was absolutely right.
She thought about Cobb. About the years of careful work, the promotions that never came fast enough, the men who took credit for her insights. She thought about the resignation letter in her bag and the safe, sensible job waiting for her.
Safe had never felt so suffocating.
"There's one more thing," Tristan said, and his hand landed on the table beside hers. Not touching her skin, but close. So close she could feel the warmth radiating from him. "This engagement requires total commitment. I don't half step, Ms. Bennett. I don't delegate the hard decisions. When I work, I work completely. And I expect the same from my team."
His fingers brushed against hers. A whisper of contact. A spark that shot up her arm and settled somewhere deep in her chest.
"If you sign this contract, you're mine for the duration. Every problem, every late night, every impossible deadline. I'll push you harder than you've ever been pushed. But I'll also give you everything you need to succeed."
Lauren looked down at his hand. Strong, capable, with a silver ring on his pinky. A man who commanded the world with those hands.
She should say no. Walk away, take the safe job, and never wonder what might have been.
But Lauren Bennett had not spent six years being overlooked just to play it safe now.
She picked up the pen.
"I'll need a copy of the data before we land," she said, signing her name with deliberate precision. "And I want full access to your team's analysis from the past three months."
Tristan watched her sign, something shifting in his expression. Satisfaction. Approval. And beneath that, a hunger that mirrored her own.
"You'll have it all." He took the contract, his fingers brushing hers again as he did. Longer this time. Deliberate. "Welcome aboard, Ms. Bennett."
The jet began to taxi, the engines rising in pitch. Through the window, the terminal lights blurred and fell away.
Lauren settled into her seat, her heart pounding against her ribs. She had just signed a contract with a man who could destroy her career or make it. She had agreed to spend three weeks in his world, on his terms, under his command.
And she had felt the spark of his touch, electric and undeniable.
This was not going to be a simple business arrangement.
Tristan took the seat across from her, his long legs crossing at the ankle. He watched her with those storm gray eyes, assessing and calculating, with something else entirely beneath the surface.
"Buckle up, Ms. Bennett," he said, and his voice carried a warmth that hadn't been there before. "We've got a long flight ahead."
The jet lifted into the night sky, and Lauren Bennett left her old life behind.

Cabin Rules
The Gulfstream's engines hummed a steady rhythm as Lauren settled into her seat across from Tristan Decker. She had signed the contract and boarded the plane. Now she sat in the leather embrace of a chair that probably cost more than her annual salary, wondering what exactly she had agreed to.
Tristan didn't look at her immediately. He was focused on his tablet, his brow slightly furrowed, his fingers moving across the screen with practiced efficiency. The cabin lights cast shadows across his face, highlighting the sharp lines of his jaw and the intensity in his gray eyes.
Lauren took a slow breath and pulled out her own tablet. She had work to do. She would not spend the flight staring at the man across from her, no matter how much her gaze wanted to drift in his direction.
"Ms. Bennett," he said, his voice cutting through the hum of the engines.
She looked up. "Yes, Mr. Decker?"
"Tristan. If we're going to spend the next several weeks together, I think first names are appropriate."
Lauren nodded. "Tristan."
"Good." He set his tablet aside and leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. The movement brought him closer, and the air between them shifted. "We need to establish some ground rules."
"I'm listening."
"This is a high-pressure situation. I don't have time to manage egos or navigate unnecessary complications. I need your full focus on the problem at hand."
"I understand."
"Do you?" His eyes held hers, and a flicker of heat sparked in her chest. "Because I've seen analysts crumble under this kind of pressure. I've seen people fold when the stakes get high. I need to know you can handle it."
Lauren kept her voice steady. "I wouldn't have signed the contract if I couldn't."
A ghost of a smile crossed his lips. "Good answer."
He sat back, but the intensity didn't leave his gaze. "Here are the rules. You have full access to my data systems, my team, and my resources. You report directly to me. No intermediaries. If you need something, you come to me."
"And if I need something in the middle of the night?"
His eyes darkened. "Then you come to me."
The words hung in the air, charged with something Lauren couldn't quite name. She swallowed and looked down at her tablet, but the screen blurred in front of her.
"Is there a problem, Lauren?"
She looked up. "No. No problem."
"Good." He stood and walked to the small bar at the side of the cabin. "Drink?"
"It's barely past morning."
"It's morning somewhere." He poured himself a glass of water and turned to face her. "But you're right. We should stay sharp."
He sat down again, this time in the seat next to hers. The proximity made Lauren's pulse quicken. She could smell his cologne, something clean and expensive, mixed with the subtle scent of his skin.
"Let's talk about the situation," he said, pulling up a map on his tablet. "Our main bottleneck is in the Port of Shanghai. Customs delays, labor shortages, and a backup of containers that's costing us millions every day."
Lauren forced herself to focus on the map. "I've been reviewing the data. The problem isn't just the port. It's the supply chain upstream. If we can reroute through Singapore, we might be able to bypass the worst of it."
"Singapore adds three days to transit."
"But it saves us a week in customs clearance. The math works."
Tristan looked at her, his eyes searching hers. "You're confident."
"I did the analysis."
"I know. I saw your report." He leaned closer, and Lauren felt the heat of his body. "But confidence and certainty are different things. Are you certain?"
Lauren held his gaze. "I'm certain the numbers support it. The execution depends on factors I can't control. But the strategy is sound."
He was quiet for a moment, and the weight of his assessment settled over her. Then he nodded. "Alright. We'll go with Singapore. I'll have my team start the reroute."
He didn't move away. Instead, he reached out and took her hand, his fingers wrapping around hers. The touch was firm, commanding, and a jolt of electricity shot up her arm.
"Thank you," he said, his voice low. "For being here. For taking this on."
Lauren's breath caught in her throat. "I'm just doing my job."
"No." His thumb traced a slow circle on the back of her hand. "You're doing more than that. You're trusting me. And I don't take that lightly."
The cabin felt smaller suddenly, the air thicker. Lauren could feel the heat of his hand, the strength in his fingers. She should pull away. She should maintain professional distance. But her body didn't listen.
"Tristan," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes?"
"We should... we should focus on the work."
He smiled, a slow, knowing smile that made Lauren's stomach flip. "We're focused on the work, Lauren. But the work doesn't exist in a vacuum. We're going to be spending a lot of time together. Close quarters. High stress. It's important that we trust each other."
"I trust you."
"Do you?"
She looked into his gray eyes, and she saw something there that made her breath catch. Vulnerability. Need. Desire.
"Yes," she said, and she meant it.
He released her hand, but the ghost of his touch lingered on her skin. "Good. Then let's get to work."
The next few hours passed in a blur of data analysis and strategy sessions. Tristan was focused, intense, his mind moving through the problem with surgical precision. Lauren matched his energy, offering insights and solutions, pushing back when she disagreed.
But through it all, the tension between them simmered. Their hands brushed as they passed documents. His gaze lingered on her a moment too long. He leaned in to point something out on her screen, his breath warm against her cheek.
Lauren felt like she was walking a tightrope. She wanted this job, the career acceleration, the challenge. But she also wanted something else, something she couldn't quite name.
Tristan stood and stretched, his shirt pulling tight across his chest. Lauren forced herself to look away.
"We're making good progress," he said. "But I need to make some calls. You should get some rest."
"I'm fine."
"Lauren." His voice was firm. "You've been working for hours straight. Take a break. There's a bedroom in the back."
Lauren blinked. "A bedroom?"
"It's a private jet, Lauren. It has amenities." He gestured toward the rear of the cabin. "Go. Rest. I'll wake you when we're ready to land."
She wanted to argue, but the exhaustion was starting to catch up with her. The adrenaline of the morning had faded, and she could feel the weight of the long night before.
"Alright," she said. "But only for an hour."
"Take as long as you need."
She stood and walked toward the back of the cabin, her legs feeling heavy. She found a small bedroom, surprisingly luxurious, with a queen-sized bed and soft lighting. She sat down on the edge of the bed and took a deep breath.
This was real. She was on Tristan Decker's private jet, flying to who knew where, working on a crisis that could make or break her career. And the man himself was out there, his presence filling the cabin, his touch still burning on her skin.
She lay back on the bed and closed her eyes, but sleep didn't come easily. Her mind kept replaying the moment he had taken her hand, the look in his eyes, the way his thumb had traced circles on her skin.
What was she getting herself into?
She didn't know. But she knew she couldn't turn back now.
The knock on the door came what felt like minutes later. Lauren sat up, disoriented, her heart racing.
"Lauren." Tristan's voice was muffled through the door. "We're about an hour out. I thought you'd want to know."
"Come in," she said, her voice still thick with sleep.
The door opened, and Tristan stepped inside, closing it behind him. The bedroom was small, and his presence made it feel smaller still. He stood at the foot of the bed, his eyes moving over her, taking in her rumpled clothes, her tousled hair, the way her blouse had come unbuttoned slightly in her sleep.
"You look rested," he said, but his voice was rougher than before.
"I feel better." She started to swing her legs off the bed, but he held up a hand.
"Wait."
She froze, looking up at him. The intensity in his gray eyes had deepened, and something else was there now, something that made her pulse quicken.
"I've been thinking," he said, moving closer to the bed. "About what you said. About Singapore."
"And?"
"And I think you're right. But I also think we need to consider the long-term implications. If we reroute through Singapore, we're committing to a new supply chain pattern. That could've ripple effects."
Lauren nodded, trying to focus on the conversation. "I've been thinking about that too. We could use the reroute as a test case. If it works, we could expand it to other routes."
"That's exactly what I was thinking." He smiled, and warmth spread through her chest. "You're good at this, Lauren. Really good."
"Thank you."
He sat down on the edge of the bed, closer than he needed to. She could feel the heat radiating from his body, could smell that clean, expensive cologne mixed with the subtle musk of his skin. He reached out and touched her chin, tilting her face up to meet his gaze.
"I mean it. I've worked with a lot of analysts. You're different."
"Different how?"
"You see the big picture. You don't get lost in the details." His thumb brushed across her lower lip, and Lauren's breath caught. "And you're not afraid to challenge me."
"Should I be?"
"No." His voice was low, rough. "I like it."
The moment stretched between them, charged and electric. Lauren could feel the heat of his body, the intensity of his gaze. She wanted to step closer. She wanted to feel his lips on hers.
But she held herself still.
"Tristan," she said, her voice steady. "We should get back to work."
He didn't release her chin. Instead, his thumb traced along her jawline, his fingers sliding into the hair at the nape of her neck. "Do you really want that?"
Her breath came shallow. "What I want doesn't matter."
"It matters to me."
He leaned closer, and his lips brushed against hers, barely a touch. Lauren's heart hammered in her chest. She should pull away. She should maintain professional distance. But her body didn't listen.
She leaned into him, and the kiss deepened. His hand tightened in her hair, tilting her head back, and his mouth moved to her neck, trailing hot, open-mouthed kisses down to her collarbone. A soft moan escaped her lips.
"Tell me to stop," he murmured against her skin. "Tell me this is a bad idea."
Lauren's hands found the front of his shirt, pulling it free from his waistband. "I can't do that."
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his eyes dark with desire. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure."
His mouth crashed into hers again, hungry and demanding. His hands moved to the buttons of her blouse, undoing them one by one with practiced efficiency. When the fabric fell open, he paused, his gaze tracing the curves of her body, the lace of her bra, the rise and fall of her chest.
"You're beautiful," he said, his voice rough. "Do you know that?"
Lauren didn't answer. She couldn't. Her mind was a haze of want and need, and the only thing that mattered was the feel of his hands on her skin.
He unclasped her bra and let it fall away, then lowered his head to take one nipple in his mouth. Lauren gasped, her fingers tangling in his hair as his tongue swirled around the sensitive peak. Heat pooled between her thighs, and she pressed them together, seeking friction.
Tristan's hand slid up her skirt, his fingers tracing along the inside of her thigh. When he reached the edge of her underwear, he paused, looking up at her.
"I need to hear you say it," he said. "I need to know you want this."
"I want this," Lauren breathed. "I want you."
He hooked his fingers under the fabric and pulled, sliding her underwear down her legs and tossing it aside. Then he pushed her back onto the bed, his body covering hers, his weight pressing her into the mattress.
His mouth found hers again as his hand slid between her thighs. His fingers traced through her wetness, and a groan escaped his throat. "So ready," he murmured. "So wet for me."
Lauren's hips arched off the bed as his fingers found her clit, circling it with slow, deliberate strokes. Pleasure coiled inside her, building with each touch. She dug her fingers into his shoulders, pulling him closer.
"More," she gasped. "Please."
He slipped one finger inside her, then two, curling them to hit the spot that made her cry out. His thumb continued to work her clit as his fingers thrust in and out, building a rhythm that matched the pounding of her heart.
Lauren's body tensed, every nerve ending on fire. The pleasure was too much, too intense, and she felt herself hurtling toward the edge. "Tristan," she gasped. "I'm going to..."
"Let go," he commanded. "Come for me."
She shattered. The orgasm ripped through her, wave after wave of pleasure that left her trembling and breathless beneath him. He didn't stop, his fingers continuing to move, drawing out every last aftershock until she was a quivering mess of sensation.
When she finally went still, he pulled his hand away and sat back, looking down at her with hooded eyes. His chest heaved with his own desire, and Lauren could see the hard outline of his cock straining against his pants.
She reached for his belt, her fingers fumbling with the buckle. He let her work it loose, then lifted his hips as she pulled his pants and boxers down. His cock sprang free, thick and hard, and Lauren wrapped her hand around it, feeling the heat and weight of him.
"Lauren," he groaned, his head falling back as she stroked him. "You're going to be the death of me."
"Not yet," she said, guiding him toward her. "I need you inside me."
He positioned himself between her thighs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance. He paused, his eyes meeting hers. "Are you sure?"
"Yes. Please. Now."
He pushed into her slowly, inch by inch, letting her adjust to the stretch and fullness. Lauren's breath came in short gasps as he filled her completely, his hips finally pressed flush against hers.
He held still for a moment, his forehead resting against hers. "You feel incredible," he said, his voice strained. "So tight. So perfect."
Then he began to move, pulling out almost completely before sliding back in with a deep, slow thrust. Lauren's legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him deeper, and they both groaned at the sensation.
He set a steady rhythm, each thrust hitting that spot inside her that made stars burst behind her eyes. His mouth found her nipple again, sucking and biting gently as his hips pistoned against hers.
Lauren could feel another orgasm building, the pleasure coiling tighter and tighter inside her. "Faster," she gasped. "Harder."
He obliged, his pace quickening, his thrusts becoming more forceful. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the small bedroom, mingling with their moans and gasps. The bed creaked beneath them, but Lauren didn't care. Nothing mattered except the feel of him inside her, the heat of his body, the way he made her feel.
"I'm close," he groaned, his voice tight. "I can't hold on much longer."
"Me neither," Lauren gasped. "Don't stop. Don't stop."
He drove into her harder, faster, his fingers finding her clit and rubbing in tight circles. The dual sensation pushed her over the edge, and she came with a cry, her body clenching around him as the orgasm crashed through her.
He followed her over, his hips jerking as he buried himself deep inside her, his own release hitting him with a groan. He collapsed onto her, his chest heaving, his face buried in the curve of her neck.
They lay there for a long moment, their breathing slowly returning to normal. Tristan's weight was heavy on her, but Lauren didn't want him to move. She liked the feel of him, the warmth of his body, the way his heart pounded against hers.
Finally, he lifted his head and looked at her, his gray eyes soft. "That was..."
"I know," she said, a small smile playing at her lips.
He rolled off her and lay on his back, one arm behind his head. "This complicates things."
"Does it have to?"
He turned his head to look at her. "No. It doesn't."
He sat up and began to redress, his movements efficient and controlled. Lauren did the same, her fingers still slightly trembling as she buttoned her blouse.
"We should get back to work," he said, his voice back to its usual calm. But when he looked at her, there was something different in his eyes. Something softer.
"Yes," she agreed. "We should."
He stood and offered her his hand. She took it, and he pulled her to her feet. For a moment, they stood close, the air between them thick with the memory of what they had just shared.
Then he stepped back, and the tension broke. "We're landing soon. You should freshen up."
Lauren nodded and moved toward the small bathroom. When she looked in the mirror, she barely recognized herself. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips swollen, her hair a mess. But her eyes were bright, and there was a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
What had she just done?
She didn't know. But she knew she couldn't turn back now.
The rest of the flight passed in a blur of work and stolen glances. Lauren felt like she was walking on the edge of something, a precipice she couldn't see but could feel.
When the plane finally touched down, Lauren gathered her things and prepared to disembark. Tristan stood by the door, his hand on the handle.
"Welcome to Singapore, Ms. Bennett," he said, a smile playing at the corners of his lips.
"Thank you, Mr. Decker."
He opened the door, and the warm air rushed in. Lauren stepped out into the unknown, her heart full of anticipation and fear.
This was only the beginning. And she had no idea where it would lead.
Turbulence
The cabin lights flickered, dimmed, and then the pilot's voice crackled through the speakers.
"Mr. Decker, we've got a weather system moving in over the Atlantic. Air traffic control is grounding all flights out of this region for the next twelve hours minimum."
Tristan's jaw tightened. He glanced at his watch, then at Lauren, who had been reviewing supply chain documents on her tablet. Her fingers had stilled over the screen, and she was watching him with that sharp analytical gaze he was already beginning to recognize.
"Twelve hours," he repeated, his voice flat.
"Yes, sir. We can either wait on the tarmac or find accommodations in the city. Your call."
He pressed his thumb and forefinger to the bridge of his nose, exhaling slowly. The delay would cost him time. Time he didn't have. Andrew Dwyer was already circling, waiting for any weakness to exploit, and every hour that passed was another hour his competitors could use to undermine his position.
"Lauren, what do you think? Hotel or plane?"
She set her tablet down, folding her hands in her lap. "The plane will be cramped for twelve hours. And if we're going to be stuck somewhere, I'd rather have space to work properly."
"Hotel it is." He signaled to the flight attendant. "Get us a suite at the Ritz. Two bedrooms if possible."
"Of course, Mr. Decker."
Less than an hour later, they were standing in a penthouse suite that overlooked the city skyline. The storm clouds were gathering on the horizon, dark and ominous, and the first drops of rain were beginning to streak against the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Lauren dropped her bag on the couch and walked to the window, her reflection ghosting over the glass. "This is... a lot."
"It's functional," Tristan said, though he knew it was more than that. The suite had a living room with a marble fireplace, a dining area, and two bedrooms that were probably larger than her apartment. "We need space to work, and we need to be comfortable while we do it."
She turned to face him, arms crossed. "You could have gotten us separate rooms."
"I could have." He stepped closer, his voice dropping. "But we're partners on this, Lauren. I need you close."
The words hung in the air, charged with something neither of them was ready to name. Lauren's breath caught, just slightly, and he saw her swallow before she looked away.
"Right," she said, her voice a little breathless. "Partners."
He moved to the minibar, pulling out two bottles of water. "We might as well make use of the time. I want to go over the Rotterdam contingency plan again. There's a gap in the insurance coverage that I think we can exploit."
She nodded, pulling out her tablet again. "I've been thinking about that. If we restructure the liability clause, we can shift the burden to the subcontractors. It's aggressive, but it'll work."
"Show me."
They sat at the dining table, laptops open, documents spread between them. For a while, they worked in focused silence, the only sounds the tapping of keyboards and the occasional murmur of discussion. But as the storm outside grew louder, the atmosphere in the room shifted.
Lauren leaned back, stretching her arms above her head. Her blouse pulled tight across her chest, and Tristan's gaze lingered for a fraction of a second before he forced it back to his screen.
"I need a break," she said. "My brain is starting to fry."
"Same." He closed his laptop. "Drink?"
"Wine, if you have it."
He found a bottle of Pinot Noir in the cabinet, poured two glasses, and brought one to her. She took it, their fingers brushing, and the contact sent a jolt through both of them.
"Thanks," she said softly.
"To surviving the storm." He clinked his glass against hers.
She laughed, a low sound that did something to his chest. "To surviving."
They moved to the couch, sitting at opposite ends but angled toward each other. The rain was falling harder now, drumming against the windows, and the city lights blurred into streaks of gold and silver.
"Lauren, can I ask you something personal?"
She raised an eyebrow. "You can ask. I reserve the right not to answer."
"Fair enough." He took a sip of his wine. "Why logistics? Most people your age are chasing tech startups or finance. You chose supply chains."
She was quiet for a moment, her fingers tracing the rim of her glass. "My dad was a truck driver. He worked for a logistics company for twenty years. He was gone a lot, but when he was home, he'd tell me stories about the routes he drove and the problems he had to solve along the way. It was like a puzzle. I loved that."
"And now you're solving puzzles for a living."
"Bigger ones." She smiled. "He passed away three years ago. Cancer. But I like to think he'd be proud."
Tristan's chest tightened. He knew that kind of loss. "He'd be proud, Lauren. You're brilliant."
She looked up at him, her green eyes soft in the dim light. "What about you? What drives Tristan Decker?"
He laughed, but it was hollow. "Control. Fear of losing everything I've built. My father built a small shipping company from nothing. By the time I was twenty-five, he was broke and drinking himself to death. I watched him lose everything because he trusted the wrong people. I swore I'd never make that mistake."
"So you trust no one."
"I trust you." The words came out before he could stop them. "I don't know why, but I do."
She set her glass down, her gaze steady. "That's a lot of weight to put on someone you just met."
"I know." He set his glass beside hers, leaning forward. "But I've been watching you, Lauren. The way you work, the way you think. You're not like the others."
"Others?"
"The analysts who just want my money or my name. You actually care about the work. You want to prove yourself."
"Maybe I want both." Her voice was low, challenging.
"Then prove it." He reached out, his hand covering hers. "Show me what you want."
The air between them crackled. Her breath hitched, and she didn't pull away. Instead, she leaned in, her lips parting.
"Tristan..."
He didn't wait. He closed the distance, his mouth capturing hers in a kiss that was anything but gentle. It was hungry, desperate, the kind of kiss that had been building since the moment she stepped onto his plane.
She gasped against his lips, and he used the opening to deepen the kiss, his tongue sweeping into her mouth. She tasted like wine and something sweet, and he couldn't get enough. His hand slid to the back of her neck, pulling her closer, while his other hand found her waist.
Lauren moaned, her fingers tangling in his hair. She pulled him down, and he went willingly, his body pressing her back into the cushions of the couch. The kiss broke for a moment, both of them panting, and he looked down at her.
Her eyes were dark, her lips swollen. "This is insane."
"Probably." He kissed her again, softer this time, a question. "Do you want to stop?"
"No." The word was a whisper, but it was firm. "I don't want to stop."
He didn't need to hear it twice. His mouth found her neck, trailing hot, open-mouthed kisses down the column of her throat. She arched into him, her nails digging into his shoulders, and he groaned against her skin.
"Lauren." Her name was a prayer on his lips. "I've been thinking about this since you walked onto my plane."
"Me too." She pulled his shirt free from his pants, her hands sliding underneath to find the hard planes of his back. "I couldn't focus on anything but you."
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his forehead resting against hers. "This changes things. Us working together. The contract."
"I know." She met his gaze, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands. "But I don't care. I want this. I want you."
He kissed her again, slower this time, savoring the taste of her. His hand slid down her side, over her hip, and she gasped when he gripped her thigh, pulling her leg over his hip.
"Tell me what you want, Lauren."
"I want you to kiss me like you mean it." She tugged at his bottom lip with her teeth. "I want to feel this tomorrow. I want to remember it."
He obliged, his mouth crashing against hers. The kiss was deep, consuming, and she met him with equal fire. His hand slid up her thigh, under her skirt, and she moaned into his mouth when he found the heat of her through her panties.
"Tristan," she breathed.
"Shh." He kissed her again, his fingers tracing the edge of her underwear. "Let me take care of you."
She nodded, her eyes fluttering closed. He pushed her skirt up, baring her thighs, and she shivered as the cool air hit her skin. He pulled back just enough to look at her, sprawled beneath him, her blouse half unbuttoned, her lips red and swollen.
"Beautiful," he murmured.
He kissed down her neck, over her collarbone, and lower, pushing her blouse aside to reveal the lace of her bra. He traced the edge with his tongue, and she gasped, her back arching.
"Please," she whispered.
"Please what?"
"Please don't stop."
He didn't. His mouth closed over her nipple through the lace, and she cried out, her fingers gripping his hair. He teased her, licking and sucking until she was writhing beneath him, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
"Lauren, look at me."
She opened her eyes, and he saw the raw need in them.
"I want you," he said, his voice rough. "But I need to know you're sure."
"I'm sure." She pulled him down, kissing him hard. "I've never been more sure of anything."
His hand slid between her legs again, and she was wet, ready. He pressed against her through her panties, and she moaned, her hips bucking against his hand.
"Not yet," he said, his voice a low growl. "I want to taste you first."
Her eyes went wide. "Tristan..."
He didn't wait. He slid down her body, pushing her skirt higher, and settled between her thighs. He pressed a kiss to the inside of her knee, then higher, and higher, until his mouth was hovering over her center.
"Hold onto something," he said, and then he was kissing her through her panties.
She cried out, her hands fisting in the couch cushions. He teased her, licking and sucking through the damp fabric, and she was trembling, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps.
"Lauren, you taste incredible."
He pulled her panties aside, and his tongue found her clit, and she screamed. He worked her slowly, methodically, building her up until she was on the edge, and then he pulled back.
"Tristan, please. I'm so close."
"I know." He kissed her inner thigh. "But I want to feel you come on my fingers first."
He slid two fingers inside her, and she gasped, her body clenching around him. He pumped slowly, his thumb circling her clit, and she was lost.
"Come for me, Lauren."
She did, her body shuddering as the orgasm ripped through her. He watched her, his eyes dark with want, and when she finally stilled, he crawled up her body, kissing her deeply.
"More," she whispered against his lips. "I want more."
He stood, pulling her to her feet. "Bedroom."
She followed him, her hand in his, and when they reached the bedroom, he turned to face her. His hands found the buttons of her blouse, and he undressed her slowly, kissing each inch of skin as it was revealed.
When she was naked, he stepped back, his breath catching. "God, Lauren."
She reached for him, unbuttoning his shirt, pushing it off his shoulders. Her hands found his belt, and she unbuckled it, pulling his pants down. He was hard, straining against his boxers, and she traced the outline of him through the fabric.
"Your turn," she said, her voice husky.
He kicked off his pants and boxers, and she took him in her hand, stroking slowly. He groaned, his head falling back.
"If you keep doing that, this is going to end before it starts."
She smiled, wicked and beautiful. "Then let's not waste time."
He pushed her onto the bed, climbing over her. His mouth found hers, and they kissed, deep and desperate, as he positioned himself at her entrance.
"Lauren, are you sure?"
"Yes." She wrapped her legs around him. "I'm sure."
He pushed inside her, and she gasped, her nails digging into his back. He stilled, giving her time to adjust, but she was already moving, her hips rocking against him.
"Move," she breathed. "Please."
He did, his thrusts slow and deep at first, building a rhythm that had her moaning beneath him. He watched her face, the way her eyes fluttered closed, the way her lips parted, and he knew he was lost.
"Tristan, I'm close again."
"Come with me."
She did, her body clenching around him as she cried out his name. He followed, his release crashing over him, and he buried his face in her neck as he came.
They lay there, tangled together, their breath slow and ragged. The storm raged outside, but inside, there was only warmth and the quiet sound of two hearts beating together.
Lauren shifted, looking up at him. "What happens now?"
He kissed her forehead. "Now we figure out how to make this work."
She smiled, soft and uncertain. "And the crisis?"
"Tomorrow." He pulled her closer. "Tonight, I just want to hold you."
She settled against him, her head on his chest, and he listened to the rain and her breath, steady and sure.
For the first time in years, Tristan Decker felt something that wasn't control or fear. He felt hope.
Yacht Protocol
The yacht cut through the calm Mediterranean waters, the sun bleeding into the horizon in streaks of orange and pink. Lauren stood on the aft deck, her phone pressed to her ear, listening to the final confirmation from the Singapore port authority. The wind caught her auburn hair, whipping strands across her face, but she didn't move. She barely breathed.
"The containers are cleared, Ms. Bennett. They're moving to the distribution center now."
She exhaled slowly, a wave of relief so profound it made her knees weak. "Thank you, Mr. Mott. I appreciate the update."
She ended the call and turned to find Tristan watching her from the doorway of the main salon. Those slate eyes were fixed on her, that familiar intensity softened by a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth. He leaned against the frame, arms crossed, the evening breeze catching his dark hair.
"Good news?" he asked, though she could see he already knew.
"The last shipment cleared customs. The entire supply chain is back on track. We did it."
He stepped onto the deck, his presence filling the space between them. "No. You did it. Your analysis of the Hamburg bottleneck was the key. I've been chasing that problem for weeks, and you solved it in three days."
Lauren felt a flush of warmth at his praise, a heat that had nothing to do with the setting sun. "I had good resources. And a very motivated boss."
He laughed, a low sound that sent a shiver down her spine. "Come. I want to celebrate properly."
He led her into the main salon, where a bottle of champagne waited in a silver bucket. The cork popped with a satisfying sound, and he poured two flutes, handing her one. The bubbles rose in a delicate dance, catching the light.
"To Lauren Bennett," he said, his voice low and intense. "The woman who saved my empire."
She clinked her glass against his. "To teamwork."
They drank, the champagne crisp and cold on her tongue. The tension of the past days seemed to melt away, replaced by something else. Something electric that hummed in the air between them. Lauren set down her glass, her hand trembling slightly.
Tristan set his glass beside hers and stepped closer, reaching out to brush a strand of hair from her face. His fingers lingered on her cheek, warm and rough. "I've been wanting to do this all week," he murmured.
His lips met hers, soft at first, then more insistent. The kiss deepened, his tongue sliding against hers, tasting of champagne and desire. Lauren moaned against his mouth, her body pressing into his. Her hands found his chest, feeling the solid muscle beneath his shirt.
He broke the kiss, his breath ragged. "Not here. Come with me."
He took her hand and led her through the salon, down a short hallway, to a door that opened into the master cabin. The room was spacious, with a king-sized bed dominating the center. Floor-to-ceiling windows showed the darkening sea, the stars beginning to appear. The yacht rocked gently, the water lapping against the hull.
Lauren's heart hammered in her chest. She had known this was coming, had wanted it since that night in the hotel. But now, standing in his private space, she felt a wave of nervous anticipation. The hotel encounter had been passionate, but this was different. This was his territory. His domain.
Tristan turned to face her, his eyes dark with desire. "I want you, Lauren. But I need you to understand something. When we're together, I'm in control. I set the pace. I decide what happens. Do you understand?"
She swallowed, her voice barely a whisper. "Yes."
"Good." He stepped closer, his hands going to the buttons of her blouse. "Because I've been thinking about this since the moment I saw you on the tarmac. The way you looked in that skirt, challenging me in the conference room with that sharp mind of yours. And then the way you moaned my name in that hotel room."
He unbuttoned her blouse slowly, pushing it off her shoulders. His fingers traced along the edge of her bra, and she shivered at his touch. The fabric fell away, and she stood before him in only her skirt and underwear.
"You're beautiful," he said, his voice rough. "But I'm not going to rush. I'm going to learn every inch of you."
He unhooked her bra, letting it fall to the floor. His eyes roamed over her breasts, his thumbs brushing across her nipples. She gasped, her back arching into his touch. The sensation was electric, sending jolts of pleasure straight to her core.
"Lie down on the bed," he commanded.
She obeyed, her legs weak as she moved to the bed and lay back. Tristan followed, his body hovering over hers. He kissed her neck, her collarbone, trailing lower to the swell of her breasts. Each touch was deliberate, measured, as if he was memorizing her.
His mouth closed over one nipple, his tongue circling the sensitive peak before drawing it between his teeth. Lauren whimpered, her fingers threading through his hair, holding him against her. He lavished attention on first one breast and then the other, alternating between gentle sucks and sharp nips that made her cry out. The contrast kept her off balance, never knowing what would come next.
His hand slid down her stomach, to the waistband of her skirt. He unzipped it and pulled it off, along with her panties. She was naked beneath him, exposed and vulnerable. The cool air of the cabin brushed her skin, making her nipples pebble.
"So beautiful," he murmured against her skin.
He kissed his way down her body, his tongue tracing a path along her hip, her inner thigh. When he reached the apex of her thighs, he paused, looking up at her. His eyes were dark with hunger.
"I want to taste you," he said. "But I want to hear you say it."
"Yes," she breathed. "Please."
He lowered his head, his tongue sliding through her folds. Lauren cried out, her hands fisting in the sheets. His tongue was skilled, finding every sensitive spot, circling her clit with devastating precision. The sounds he made, low and appreciative, vibrated against her sensitive flesh and only heightened her arousal.
She was lost in sensation, her hips bucking against his mouth. He held her down, his hands gripping her thighs, keeping her in place.
"Don't move," he commanded against her skin.
She tried to obey, but her body was beyond her control. The pleasure built, wave after wave, until she was trembling on the edge.
"Tristan, please," she begged.
He lifted his head, his chin glistening. "Not yet. I want to be inside you when you come."
He moved up her body, his mouth capturing hers. She tasted herself on his lips, a mix of salt and sweetness. His hand went to his belt, unbuckling it with practiced ease. The sound of the buckle loosening sent a thrill through her.
He pushed down his trousers and boxers, his erection springing free. He was thick and hard, and Lauren felt a pulse of anticipation between her legs. She reached for him, but he caught her wrist.
"No. I'm in control, remember?" He positioned himself at her entrance, his eyes locked on hers. "Look at me. I want to see your face when I take you."
He pushed inside her, slowly, inch by inch. Lauren gasped, her body stretching to accommodate him. He was bigger than she had expected, filling her completely. The sensation was overwhelming, a deep pressure that bordered on pain but quickly became pleasure.
"You feel incredible," he groaned. "So tight. So perfect."
He held still for a moment, letting her adjust to the fullness. His thumb found her clit, stroking in slow circles that made her whimper. Then he began to move, withdrawing almost completely before sliding back in with a deliberate thrust. The pace was torturous, each stroke hitting the deepest part of her.
"You like that?" he asked, his voice strained with the effort of holding back.
"Yes," she gasped. "God, yes."
He increased his rhythm, his hips snapping against hers with each thrust. His hand gripped her hip, angling her to take him deeper. The new position sent sparks of pleasure racing through her, and she cried out, her nails digging into his shoulders.
"That's it," he murmured. "Let me hear you."
Lauren abandoned herself to the sensation, her moans filling the cabin. The yacht rocked beneath them, adding a subtle movement to their rhythm. The stars through the windows blurred as her vision hazed with pleasure.
Tristan shifted again, pulling her legs up to wrap around his waist. The angle changed, and she felt him even deeper, hitting a spot that made her see stars. His thumb returned to her clit, rubbing in time with his thrusts.
"I'm close," she gasped.
"Come for me," he commanded. "Now."
Her body obeyed, the orgasm crashing through her with a force that left her breathless. She cried out his name, her inner muscles clenching around him. The sensation was too much, too perfect, and she felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes.
He followed moments later, his body shuddering as he spilled into her. He buried his face in her neck, his breath hot against her skin. His weight pressed her into the mattress, a comforting presence.
For a long moment, they lay there, tangled together. The only sounds were their ragged breathing and the gentle lap of water against the hull. Lauren's heart slowed, the aftershocks of her orgasm still rippling through her in small waves.
Tristan lifted his head, his eyes soft in the dim light. "That was..." He trailed off, as if searching for the right word.
"Perfect," Lauren finished.
He smiled, a genuine smile that reached his eyes. "Yes. Perfect."
He rolled off her, pulling her close. She rested her head on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath her ear. His hand stroked her hair, gentle now, a stark contrast to the commanding presence he had been minutes before.
The yacht rocked gently, the stars shining through the windows. Lauren closed her eyes, savoring the moment. She had saved his empire. And now, she felt like she was on the verge of saving something else. Something she hadn't even known she was looking for.
Tristan's voice was a low murmur. "Stay with me tonight."
It wasn't a question. It was a command. And for the first time, Lauren didn't mind being told what to do.
"Yes," she whispered.
And she meant it. She felt a shift inside herself, a letting go of the control she had always held so tightly. In his arms, she could surrender. She could trust.
He kissed her forehead, a tender gesture that made her heart ache. "Good. Because I'm not done with you yet."
She smiled against his skin. "I'm counting on it."
The stars wheeled overhead, the sea whispered against the hull, and Lauren Bennett let herself fall.
Portside Jealousy
The port of Marseille glittered under the late afternoon sun as the yacht eased into its temporary berth. Tristan stood on the bridge, watching the dock workers scramble with mooring lines, but his attention remained fixed on the slim figure standing at the railing below. Lauren had changed into a fitted white sundress, the breeze pressing the fabric against her thighs, her auburn hair catching the golden light.
She was breathtaking. And every man on that dock was staring.
The meeting had been arranged weeks ago. A local logistics partner, someone who controlled access to a critical warehouse network that could streamline their Mediterranean operations. Tristan had dealt with him before. Competent and efficient, but entirely too charming for his own good.
"Mr. Decker." The voice came from behind, smooth and accented. "Welcome to Marseille."
Tristan turned to find Philippe Duvall climbing the gangway, his tailored suit immaculate, his smile wide and practiced. He was handsome in that effortless European way, dark hair swept back, eyes the color of caramel. He clasped Tristan's hand with both of his.
"Philippe." Tristan kept his grip firm. "Thanks for accommodating us on short notice."
"Of course, of course. Any friend of Tristan Decker is a friend of mine." Philippe's gaze slid past him, landing on Lauren as she climbed the steps to join them. "And who is this?"
Lauren extended her hand. "Lauren Bennett. I'm Mr. Decker's analyst."
"Analyst." Philippe held her hand a beat too long, his thumb brushing across her knuckles. "Such a serious title for such a lovely woman. Surely you do more than just analyze."
Tristan's jaw tightened. He stepped forward, positioning himself slightly between them. "Lauren is my partner on this project. She has full authority to make decisions in my absence."
"Even better." Philippe released her hand slowly. "Then you must join me for dinner tonight. I know a restaurant that serves the best bouillabaisse in the city. We can discuss business over wine."
Lauren glanced at Tristan, her expression unreadable. "That sounds lovely. Thank you."
Something hot and sharp twisted in Tristan's chest. He forced a smile. "We'll see you this evening."
The rest of the meeting passed in a blur of logistics and contracts. Philippe was efficient, Tristan would give him that. But every time the man looked at Lauren, every time he leaned in to explain something with his hand on her shoulder, Tristan felt that possessive spike drive deeper.
By the time they returned to the yacht, the sun was dipping below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Lauren kicked off her heels in the salon, collapsing onto the leather couch with a sigh.
"He's intense," she said. "But he knows his stuff. That warehouse network could cut our shipping times by forty percent."
"He's a predator." The words came out sharper than Tristan intended.
Lauren looked up, her eyebrows raised. "Excuse me?"
"You saw how he looked at you. How he touched you." Tristan paced the length of the salon, his hands clenched at his sides. "He was undressing you with his eyes the entire meeting."
"Tristan." Lauren's voice was calm, but there was an edge to it. "It was a business dinner. Nothing more."
"You don't understand." He stopped, turning to face her. "I saw the way he held your hand. The way he leaned in. He wanted you."
"And?" Lauren stood, crossing her arms. "I'm a big girl. I can handle a little flirting."
"I don't want you handling it." The words were out before he could stop them. "I don't want him touching you. Looking at you. I don't want any man doing that."
Lauren's eyes widened. A flush crept up her cheeks. "Tristan, you're being ridiculous."
"Am I?" He crossed the room in three strides, stopping inches from her. "Tell me you didn't feel it. Tell me you didn't know exactly what he was doing."
"I knew." Her voice dropped, barely above a whisper. "But it doesn't matter. I'm here with you."
"Then prove it." The demand was raw, primal, ripped from somewhere deep inside him. "Show me you're mine."
Lauren's breath caught. Her green eyes searched his, looking for something. Permission, maybe. Or confirmation. Whatever she found made her nod, slow and deliberate.
"Okay," she said. "Show me."
Tristan didn't wait. He grabbed her waist, spinning her around and pressing her against the nearest wall. His mouth found hers, hungry and demanding, tasting the salt of the sea air on her lips. She gasped against him, her hands fisting in his shirt, pulling him closer until there was no space left between them.
"He wanted to touch you here." Tristan's hand slid down her side, gripping her hip. "And here." His fingers traced the curve of her thigh, hitching her leg up around his waist. "But this is mine. All of it. Mine."
Lauren moaned, her head falling back against the wall. "Yes."
"Say it." He pressed his forehead to hers, his breath ragged. "Say you're mine."
"I'm yours." Her voice was breathless, desperate. "I'm yours, Tristan. Only yours."
Something broke in him. Something dark and possessive that he'd kept locked away for years. He lifted her easily, carrying her toward the master cabin, his mouth never leaving hers, swallowing her small sounds as she wrapped her legs around him.
He laid her on the bed, standing over her, drinking in the sight of her. The white dress had ridden up, exposing the tops of her thighs. Her hair was a wild halo around her head, her lips swollen from his kisses.
"You're so beautiful," he said, his voice rough. "And every man who sees you wants you. But they can't have you."
"They don't want me," Lauren whispered. "Not like you do."
"No." He crawled onto the bed, settling between her legs. "They don't know you. They don't know how you sound when you come. How you taste. How you say my name."
He pulled the dress over her head, tossing it aside. She lay before him in nothing but a thin lace bra and matching panties, her skin flushed, her eyes dark with want. The lace was sheer enough that he could see the dark peaks of her nipples beneath it, already hard, already straining for his touch.
"Tonight, I'm going to remind you who you belong to." He unhooked her bra with practiced fingers, freeing her breasts. They were perfect, full and heavy, her nipples tightening further in the cool air. "I'm going to mark every inch of you so that when you close your eyes, you see me."
His mouth closed over her nipple, and she arched into him, a cry escaping her lips. He suckled hard, drawing the sensitive peak deep, his teeth grazing just enough to make her gasp. His tongue swirled around the tight bud, then he pulled back, blowing cool air across the wet skin, watching it pebble even further. His hand moved to her other breast, kneading the soft flesh, rolling the nipple between his thumb and forefinger, pinching just hard enough to make her whimper.
"Tristan." His name was a prayer on her lips.
He moved lower, trailing kisses down her stomach, pausing to bite gently at her hip bone. She squirmed beneath him, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. He could smell her arousal, sweet and musky, and it made his cock strain against his trousers.
"Please," she begged. "Please, I need you."
"Not yet." He hooked his fingers in the waistband of her panties, pulling them down slowly, deliberately, exposing her inch by inch. "I want to taste you first. I want to hear you fall apart on my tongue."
He settled between her thighs, his breath hot against her core. She was already wet, glistening in the dim light, her folds swollen and slick with desire. He looked up at her, holding her gaze as he lowered his mouth to her.
The first stroke of his tongue made her cry out. He licked her slowly, savoring her taste, the way she bucked against his mouth. He parted her folds with his thumbs, exposing her fully, and traced the length of her slit with the flat of his tongue, circling her entrance before sliding inside.
"God, Tristan." Her hips rolled against his face.
He found her clit and circled it with deliberate precision, drawing moan after moan from her lips. He took the swollen bud between his lips, sucking gently, then flicking it with the tip of his tongue in a rhythm that made her thighs tremble on either side of his head.
"That's it," he murmured against her. "Let me hear you. Let everyone on this dock know who makes you scream."
Her hands fisted in the sheets, her hips grinding against his face. He pushed a finger inside her, feeling her walls clench around it, then another, curling them just right as his tongue worked her clit. He stroked her from the inside, finding that spot that made her gasp and writhe, pressing against it with every thrust of his fingers.
"I'm close," she gasped. "Tristan, I'm so close."
"Come for me." He pressed harder, faster, his fingers driving deep while his tongue flicked relentlessly against her swollen clit. "Come on my mouth. Show me you're mine."
She shattered with a cry that seemed to echo through the whole yacht. Her walls spasmed around his fingers, her juices flooding his tongue as he drank her in, feeling her pulse against his mouth, her body trembling with the force of her release. He didn't stop, working her through the aftershocks, drawing out every last tremor until she was begging him to stop.
When she finally stilled, he crawled up her body, positioning himself at her entrance. His cock was hard and aching, pressing against her slick heat. He rubbed the head against her swollen clit, making her jerk beneath him, then slid it down to her entrance, teasing her with the promise of what was to come.
"Look at me," he commanded.
Her eyes fluttered open, dazed and sated.
"I want you to remember this," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "Every time you see him. Every time any man looks at you. I want you to remember who you belong to."
He thrust into her in one smooth motion, burying himself to the hilt. She gasped, her nails digging into his shoulders, her back arching off the bed. He paused, letting her feel every inch of him, the way he stretched her, filled her completely. Her walls pulsed around him, hot and tight and impossibly wet.
He didn't slow down. He pulled back until only the tip remained inside her, then drove back in with a primal rhythm, each stroke a declaration of ownership. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the cabin, slick and obscene, driving him harder, faster.
"Whose are you?" he growled.
"Yours." The word was barely a whisper.
"Louder."
"Yours!" She cried it this time, her voice raw and desperate.
He angled his hips, hitting that spot deep inside her that made her see stars. Her walls clenched around him, pulling him deeper, begging for more. He grabbed her leg, hitching it higher on his hip, changing the angle, driving even deeper. She was so wet that he could feel her arousal coating his thighs, dripping down between them.
"That's right," he said, his breath hot against her ear. "Take all of me. Let me fill you up. Let me claim every part of you."
He felt her building again, her body tightening around him. He reached between them, finding her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he drove into her. The dual sensation made her sob against his shoulder, her teeth sinking into his skin as she tried to muffle her cries.
"Don't," he ordered, pulling back to look at her face. "I want to hear you. I want to hear everything."
"Tristan, I can't. It's too much."
"You can." He thrust harder, deeper, his fingers working her clit relentlessly. "Come for me again. Come on my cock. Show me you're mine."
She shattered a second time, her body convulsing around him, her cries filling the cabin as she came undone. The feeling of her climax, her walls rippling and clenching and milking him, pushed him over the edge. He buried himself deep, spilling into her with a guttural groan, his body shuddering with the force of his release. He kept thrusting through it, pumping every last drop into her, claiming her from the inside.
They lay tangled together, breathing hard, the silence broken only by the gentle lapping of water against the hull. Tristan pressed a kiss to her forehead, his hand splayed across her stomach where he could feel himself still inside her, still hard, still claiming.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly. "I don't know what came over me."
Lauren turned in his arms, her green eyes searching his. "I do. You were jealous."
"I was." He had never admitted that to anyone. "I've never felt like that before. Like I would burn the whole world down to keep you."
She smiled, soft and knowing. "I'm not going anywhere, Tristan. I'm right here."
He pulled her closer, burying his face in her hair. "Good. Because I'm not letting you go."
Outside, the lights of Marseille glittered across the water. But in the master cabin of the yacht, Tristan held Lauren close, her scent filling his senses, her heartbeat steady against his chest. For the first time in years, he felt something other than control.
He felt peace.
Open Water Risk
The deck of the Horizon stretched out before them, a dark expanse of teak and shadow under a canopy of stars. The yacht rocked gently at anchor, the only sounds the soft lap of water against the hull and the distant hum of the generator. Lauren leaned against the polished railing, the cool night air raising goosebumps on her bare arms.
Tristan stood beside her, his shoulder almost brushing hers. He had shed his jacket somewhere below, leaving him in a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. The moonlight traced the hard lines of his jaw, the strong column of his throat.
"The Mediterranean route is the key," he said, his voice low and thoughtful. "If we consolidate the Milan and Barcelona hubs, we cut transit time by forty percent."
Lauren nodded, forcing her mind back to the strategy session they had begun earlier in the main salon. The crisis was winding down, but there were still decisions to be made. Long-term decisions. "But that puts more pressure on the Marseille facility. Their throughput isn't there yet."
"Then we fix it." He turned to face her fully, his gray eyes catching the starlight. "That's what you're here for. To find the fixes."
The words should have been purely professional. They were. But the way he said it, the way his gaze traveled over her face, made her breath catch. It had been three days since that first night in his cabin. Three days of shared meals and working sessions and silences that felt charged with something unspoken.
"I've been thinking about the staffing model," she said, her voice steadier than she felt. "If we cross-train the logistics teams, we can create a more flexible workforce. It's a bigger upfront investment, but the long-term gains outweigh the costs."
Tristan's lips curved into a slow smile. "You've been thinking about a lot of things, haven't you?"
She met his gaze. "That's what you hired me for."
"I hired you for your mind." He stepped closer, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. "But I'm finding I want more than that."
Her heart hammered against her ribs. They were on the deck, in the open. Anyone could walk out of the main salon and see them. The crew was below, but still. The risk was real.
"We should finish the strategy session," she said, but her voice came out breathy, unconvincing.
"We should." Tristan's hand came up, his fingers brushing a strand of hair from her face. The touch was featherlight, barely there, and yet it sent a shiver down her spine. "But I don't want to."
"Tristan..."
"Shh." He pressed a finger to her lips, silencing her. "I know what I want, Lauren. The question is whether you want it too."
Her body answered before her mind could. She leaned into him, her breasts pressing against his chest, her hands finding the hard planes of his shoulders. His finger moved from her lips to trace the line of her jaw, tilting her face up to his.
"I want it," she whispered. "But not here. Someone could see."
"That's the point." His voice dropped, becoming rough and dark. "I want them to see. I want the whole damn world to know you're mine."
The possessiveness in his words made her knees weak. She should protest. She should pull away and insist they go below. But the thrill of danger, the risk of being caught, sent a pulse of heat straight to her core.
"You're crazy," she breathed.
"Maybe." He lowered his head, his mouth hovering just above hers. "But you're not stopping me."
She wasn't. She couldn't. Every nerve in her body was tuned to him, waiting for his next move.
He kissed her, slow and deep, his tongue sliding against hers in a dance that was already familiar. His hands moved down her back, pulling her hips against his, letting her feel the hard length of him through their clothes. Lauren moaned into his mouth, her fingers tangling in his hair. The night air was cool on her heated skin, a sharp contrast to the burning heat of his body.
"We shouldn't," she gasped when he broke the kiss to trail his lips down her throat.
"We definitely shouldn't." He nipped at the sensitive skin below her ear, making her gasp. "But I can't seem to care."
His hand slid up her thigh, pushing the hem of her dress higher. The fabric bunched around her waist as his fingers found the damp heat between her legs. He traced the crease of her inner thigh, teasing, deliberate, his touch featherlight one moment and firm the next.
"Already so wet for me," he murmured against her skin. "You've been thinking about this all day, haven't you?"
"Yes," she admitted, her voice barely a whisper. "I can't stop thinking about you."
He rewarded her honesty by pressing his palm against her core, the pressure making her gasp. His fingers found the edge of her panties, sliding beneath the fabric to stroke her slick folds. He parted her gently, running his fingers through her wetness, spreading it over her swollen flesh. She was trembling, her grip on his shoulders tightening as he explored her with unhurried precision.
"Tristan..." She gripped his shoulders, her legs threatening to give out.
"I've got you." He guided her backward until her back hit the railing. The cold metal bit into her skin, but she barely noticed. All she could feel was his hand between her legs, his fingers circling her clit with maddening precision. He traced slow, deliberate circles around the swollen bud, occasionally dipping lower to gather more of her wetness before returning to that maddening rhythm.
"Someone's going to come out," she managed, even as her hips bucked against his hand.
"Let them." His voice was a growl against her ear. "Let them see how good I make you feel."
He pushed one finger inside her, then two, stretching her, filling her. Lauren bit her lip to keep from crying out, the pleasure building too fast, too intense. He curled his fingers upward, finding that spot deep inside that made her vision blur, while his thumb continued its relentless circling on her clit. The dual sensation was overwhelming, each movement of his hand sending waves of pleasure radiating through her core.
"That's it," he encouraged, his voice rough against her ear. "Come for me, Lauren. Let me feel you come apart."
The command, the risk, the sheer overwhelming pleasure pushed her over the edge. She came with a strangled cry, her body shuddering against his hand, her inner walls clenching and pulsing around his fingers as waves of sensation crashed through her. He held her steady through it, his arm around her waist keeping her upright while his hand continued to work her through the aftershocks until she was left trembling and sensitive.
But he wasn't done.
Before she could catch her breath, he was turning her around, pressing her chest against the railing. The metal was cold against her heated skin, the night air raising goosebumps on her exposed thighs. His hands ran up her sides, over the curve of her hips, bunching her dress higher until it sat gathered at her waist.
"I want to feel you from behind," he said, his voice rough with need. "I want to watch the stars reflect in your eyes while I'm inside you."
She heard the sound of his belt unbuckling, the rustle of fabric as he freed himself. Her heart pounded, her body still trembling from her orgasm. He stepped closer, and she could feel the heat of him against her bare thigh, the hard length of him pressing against her backside. His hands gripped her hips, steadying her, positioning her.
"Are you sure?" he asked, his breath warm against her neck.
"Yes." The word came out desperate, raw. "God, yes."
He guided himself to her entrance, the head of his cock pressing against her slick folds. He didn't push inside. Not yet. He just held there, teasing her, letting her feel the heat and hardness of him poised at her entrance. She squirmed, trying to push back against him, but his grip on her hips held her still.
"Look at the stars," he commanded.
She raised her eyes to the sky, the vast expanse of darkness dotted with points of light. The Milky Way stretched above them, a river of diamonds scattered across the black.
"Beautiful," he murmured, and then he thrust inside her.
The sensation was overwhelming. Fullness and heat and the sharp edge of pleasure all at once. Lauren gripped the railing, her knuckles white, as he began to move. He started slow, pulling almost completely out before sliding back in to the hilt, letting her feel every inch of him. The stretch was exquisite, her still-sensitive walls fluttering around him as he filled her again and again.
He set a deep, deliberate rhythm, each thrust pushing her against the railing, the cold metal a counterpoint to the burning heat inside her. The yacht rocked gently with the motion of the water, adding to the sensation of being adrift, unmoored. His hands slid up her sides to cup her breasts through the thin fabric of her dress, his thumbs finding her nipples and circling them until they peaked hard against his touch.
"You feel incredible," he growled, his breath hot against the back of her neck. "I can't get enough of you."
She couldn't answer. All she could do was feel. The thick slide of him inside her, the press of his chest against her back, the whisper of the night air on her skin. He leaned forward, his weight pressing her into the railing, and the angle shifted, sending him deeper. She gasped, her body clenching around him involuntarily.
"Faster," she begged.
He obliged, picking up the pace, his hips slapping against her with increasing urgency. The sounds of their joining filled the night, wet and obscene, but neither of them cared. The wet slide of him inside her, the slap of skin against skin, the small gasps and moans that escaped her lips with each thrust. His grip on her hips tightened, his fingers digging into her flesh as he drove into her harder.
"I'm close," she gasped, the pressure building again, coiling tight in her belly.
"Not yet." He slowed, pulling almost all the way out before thrusting back in, deeper this time, grinding his hips against her. "I want to feel you come again. But I want to make it last."
He reached around, his fingers finding her clit again, circling it in time with his thrusts. The dual stimulation was too much. His cock filling her, stretching her, his fingers working that swollen bud with relentless precision. Lauren cried out, her body shuddering as another orgasm ripped through her, her walls clenching and pulsing around him. She felt herself gush around him, the wetness slicking her thighs, and still he kept moving, kept thrusting, drawing out her pleasure until she thought she might faint from it.
Tristan followed moments later, his body tensing behind her, a guttural groan escaping his lips as he spilled inside her. She felt him pulse within her, the warmth of his release filling her, and she moaned at the sensation. He stayed buried for a long moment, both of them panting, their bodies slick with sweat. His forehead rested against the back of her neck, his breath coming in ragged gasps.
Finally, he pulled out, turning her around to face him. His eyes were dark, satisfied, but there was something softer underneath. Something that looked almost like wonder.
"You're dangerous," he said, his thumb tracing her lower lip.
"So are you." She smiled, leaning into his touch.
He kissed her then, soft and sweet, a stark contrast to the raw passion of moments before. When he pulled back, his expression had shifted, becoming serious.
"This isn't just about the job anymore," he said. "You know that, right?"
She nodded, her heart swelling with something she wasn't ready to name. "I know."
"Good." He took her hand, leading her toward the stairs that led below. "Because I'm not letting you go."
As they descended into the warm glow of the cabin, Lauren felt a shift inside her. Something had changed tonight. Something fundamental. The risk and exposure and raw vulnerability of being taken on the open deck had stripped away the last of her defenses.
She was his. And for the first time, she was glad.
Storm of Truth
The storm had been building all afternoon, dark clouds rolling across the horizon like a warning Tristan had chosen to ignore. Now the yacht rocked against its anchor, rain lashing the windows of the master cabin as lightning split the sky beyond the glass.
Lauren stood at the window, her reflection ghosting against the turbulent sea. She had changed into a simple silk robe after their strategy session had been interrupted by the first crash of thunder. Her auburn hair was still damp from the shower she had taken to warm herself after the temperature had dropped.
"We're not going anywhere tonight," Tristan said from behind her. His voice was low, stripped of its usual commanding edge. He had shed his jacket and tie, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, revealing the dark hair on his chest. "The storm is sitting over the port. We'll have to wait it out."
Lauren turned to face him. The cabin was dim, lit only by the soft glow of a single lamp. The shadows carved his features into something almost vulnerable. She had seen him commanding boardrooms and navigating crises. She had felt his hands on her body, demanding and possessive. But she had never seen him like this. Uncertain. Hesitant.
"How long?" she asked.
"Could be hours. Could be until morning." He ran a hand through his dark hair, a gesture she had learned meant he was wrestling with something internal. "The crew has secured everything. We're alone."
The words hung in the air between them, heavy with implication. They had been alone before, in hotel rooms and on the yacht, but always with the knowledge that the outside world was just a door away. Now the storm had isolated them completely, cutting them off from everything except each other.
"Tristan," Lauren said softly, stepping closer. "What's wrong?"
He let out a breath, something between a laugh and a sigh. "I'm not used to being stuck. I'm not used to being still."
"Neither am I." She reached out, her fingers brushing his forearm. "But maybe that's why we're here. Maybe the storm is forcing us to stop."
His gray eyes met hers, and she saw something shift in them. A wall cracking. A door opening.
"Lauren, there's something I haven't told you." His voice was rough, almost reluctant. "Something about why I am the way I am."
She didn't pull away. She didn't speak. She simply waited, her hand still resting on his arm, grounding him.
"I was married before," he said. The words came out flat, as if he had rehearsed them a thousand times. "Her name was Caroline. She was beautiful and ambitious. She wanted the life I could give her. The money, the status, all of it."
Lauren felt her chest tighten. She had assumed Tristan had a past, but hearing him speak it made it real.
"When my company hit a rough patch, she left," he continued. "She didn't even wait to see if I could fix it. She just packed her bags and walked out. Told me she hadn't signed up for failure."
Lightning flashed, illuminating his face for a split second. Lauren saw the pain there, buried deep but unmistakable.
"After that, I made a promise to myself," he said. "I would never let anyone close enough to hurt me like that again. I would build an empire so strong that no one could ever leave me because I would never need anyone."
Lauren's heart ached for him. She understood that kind of armor. She had worn it herself.
"My father left when I was twelve," she said quietly. "He just walked out one day and never came back. My mother worked three jobs to keep us afloat. I decided early on that I would never be dependent on anyone. I would make my own way. I would be so successful that I would never have to rely on someone else's promises."
Tristan's hand came up, his fingers brushing her cheek. The touch was gentle, almost reverent. "We're more alike than I realized."
"Maybe that's why this works," Lauren said. "Maybe we understand each other's walls because we built the same ones."
He stepped closer, his body heat surrounding her. The storm raged outside, but inside the cabin, there was only the quiet hum of electricity between them.
"I don't want to be that man anymore," Tristan said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm tired of keeping people at arm's length. I'm tired of protecting myself from the possibility of being hurt."
"What do you want?" Lauren asked, her breath catching.
"I want you," he said. "Not just your body. Not just your mind. I want all of you. The parts you hide. The parts you're afraid to show."
Lauren felt tears prick at her eyes. No one had ever said that to her before. No one had ever wanted her completely, flaws and fears included.
"I'm scared," she admitted. "I'm scared that if I let myself fall, I won't be able to get back up."
"Then don't get back up," Tristan said. "Fall with me. I'll catch you."
He kissed her then, soft and slow, nothing like the demanding kisses of their previous encounters. This was different. This was a question, not a command. An invitation, not a claim.
Lauren melted into him, her hands sliding up his chest to cup his face. She felt the tension in his jaw, the slight tremor in his hands as they settled on her waist. He was holding back, giving her space to choose.
"I'm yours," she whispered against his lips. "I've been yours since the moment I stepped onto that jet."
A low growl rumbled in his chest, but it was different from before. Softer. Warmer. He lifted her easily, carrying her to the bed and laying her down on the silk sheets as if she were something precious.
The storm howled outside, but inside, there was only the sound of their breathing, the rustle of fabric, the whisper of skin against skin.
Tristan undressed her slowly, his fingers trailing over every inch of exposed flesh as if he were memorizing her. He parted the silk robe and pushed it from her shoulders, letting it pool at her waist. His gaze drank in the sight of her bare breasts, the rise and fall of her chest as her breathing quickened. He pressed kisses to her collarbone, trailing lower to the swell of her breast, taking one nipple into his mouth while his hand caressed the other. Lauren gasped, her back arching off the silk sheets, her fingers tangling in his dark hair.
"You're beautiful," he murmured against her skin, his breath hot on her flesh. "Not just your body. Everything about you. Your mind, your fire, the way you challenge me."
He kissed a path down her stomach, his tongue tracing the line of her hip bone, his hands sliding the robe completely off her body. He knelt between her thighs, his gray eyes dark with desire as he looked up at her. Then his mouth found her, hot and insistent, his tongue tracing slow circles that made her cry out. Lauren's hands fisted in the sheets, her hips rising to meet him as waves of pleasure built inside her.
"Tristan," she gasped, her voice trembling. "I need you. Now. Please."
"I know," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "I need you too. More than I've ever needed anything."
He shed his own clothes, his body a map of strength and scars. Lauren traced the lines of him, learning the geography of his skin. She felt the tension in his shoulders, the tightness in his jaw. He was holding himself back, giving her control.
"Don't be gentle," she said, surprising herself. "I don't need gentle. I need you. All of you."
Something flickered in his eyes. Relief. Gratitude. He lowered himself over her, his weight a grounding presence. When he entered her, it was slow, deliberate, each inch a promise. Lauren gasped, her body stretching to accommodate him, the sensation overwhelming in its intensity.
He held still for a moment, letting her adjust, his forehead pressed to hers. "Look at me," he whispered. "I want to see you."
Lauren opened her eyes, meeting his gaze. What she saw there made her breath catch. Raw vulnerability. Desperate need. Something that looked terrifyingly like love.
He began to move, pulling back slowly before sliding deep again. Each thrust was deliberate, measured, as if he were trying to memorize the feel of her. Lauren wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer, deeper. The angle shifted and she moaned, her nails raking down his back.
"I've never done this," he said, his voice strained. "I've never let anyone see me like this."
"I know," Lauren whispered. "I know."
His rhythm increased, each thrust harder, deeper, more urgent. But he never lost the tenderness. He kissed her through every movement, his hands cupping her face, his eyes locked on hers. She saw the walls crumbling in his gaze, the armor falling away piece by piece.
Lauren felt the pressure building inside her, a coil of heat that tightened with every stroke. "Tristan, I'm close," she panted.
"Let go," he urged, his own voice breaking. "Fall for me. I've got you."
She shattered beneath him, her body convulsing around him as waves of pleasure crashed through her. She cried out his name, her nails digging into his shoulders hard enough to leave marks. He followed moments later, his own release tearing through him as he buried himself deep inside her, his cry swallowed by her mouth as he poured himself into her.
For a long moment, neither of them moved. The only sounds were their ragged breaths and the rain beating against the windows. Tristan collapsed beside her, pulling her into his arms, his face buried in her hair. She could feel his heart pounding against her back, gradually slowing as their bodies cooled.
"I'm sorry," he said, his voice muffled.
Lauren pulled back to look at him. "For what?"
"For being closed off. For making you work so hard to reach me." He traced her jaw with his thumb. "You deserve someone who doesn't need a storm to tell the truth."
"You told me when you were ready," Lauren said. "That's what matters."
He kissed her forehead, her nose, her lips. "I don't want to go back to the way things were. I'm done being the man who keeps everyone at a distance."
"Then don't be," she said simply. "Be the man who lets me in."
He smiled, a real smile, soft and unguarded. "I think I already am."
Outside, the storm began to ease, the rain softening to a gentle patter. The yacht still rocked, but the violence had passed. In the master cabin, tangled in silk sheets and each other, Tristan and Lauren lay together, their walls crumbling, their hearts open.
For the first time in years, Tristan felt something other than control. He felt hope. And lying beside him, her head on his chest, her fingers tracing lazy patterns on his skin, Lauren felt it too.
The storm had forced them to stop. But it had also forced them to see each other clearly. And what they saw was something worth holding onto.
Tristan pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "Thank you," he said quietly.
"For what?"
"For not giving up on me."
Lauren tilted her head up to look at him. "I never will."
And in the quiet aftermath of the storm, with the rain washing the world clean, they let themselves believe it.
Final Delivery
The satellite phone buzzed against the mahogany table. Tristan stared at it, his hand hovering. Beside him, Lauren stood with her arms crossed, her green eyes fixed on the device as if she could will the news into existence.
Three weeks of rerouting cargo, negotiating with port authorities, and squeezing every last drop of efficiency from his global network. Andrew Dwyer had tried to exploit the chaos, poaching clients with cut rates and empty promises. But Tristan had played the long game. He had called in favors from a decade of strategic partnerships, and now the moment of truth had arrived.
He pressed the speaker button.
"Go ahead, David."
His operations director's voice crackled through the line. "Mr. Decker, the last shipment cleared customs in Singapore. All forty-three containers are on schedule. The backlog is resolved."
Tristan closed his eyes. The weight that had pressed on his chest for weeks began to lift, slowly, like a tide pulling back from the shore.
"Confirmed on all routes?"
"Every single one. We're back to full capacity. Dwyer's people are scrambling. They overextended trying to steal our clients and now they're the ones bleeding."
A rare smile touched Tristan's lips. "Good work, David. I'll be in touch."
He ended the call and turned to Lauren. She was watching him with that sharp, analytical gaze he had come to crave. But there was something else in her eyes now. Softness. Relief.
"It's over," he said.
She let out a breath she seemed to have been holding for days. "We did it."
"You did it." He stepped closer, his voice dropping. "You caught the discrepancy in the Rotterdam manifests. You found the alternative routing through the Suez. You stayed up for forty-eight hours straight building that forecasting model."
"I had a good teacher."
"You had a partner."
The word hung between them. He had never called her that before. Partner. It was a business term, but it carried something more now. Something he had been avoiding for weeks.
Lauren's lips parted. She looked down at the table, then back up at him. "What happens now?"
"Now we celebrate."
He crossed to the bar and pulled out a bottle of Macallan 25. The amber liquid caught the light as he poured two glasses. He handed one to Lauren, his fingers brushing hers.
"To the crisis that almost broke us," he said, raising his glass.
"And to the partnership that saved us."
They drank. The whiskey burned warm down his throat, but it was nothing compared to the heat in Lauren's gaze. She set her glass down and stepped closer, close enough that he could smell her perfume. Something floral and clean, like jasmine after rain.
"Tristan."
His name on her lips did something to him. It always had, from that first night in the hotel. But now it carried weight. History. Weeks of shared sleepless nights, of arguments and breakthroughs, of hands that found each other in the dark and didn't let go.
"I need to tell you something," he said.
"I'm listening."
He set his glass aside. His hands found her waist, pulling her closer. She came willingly, her palms flat against his chest.
"When I hired you, I told myself it was purely professional. The best analyst for the job. That's what I said."
"It's what you believed."
"It's what I wanted to believe." He shook his head, a bitter laugh escaping him. "I've spent fifteen years building an empire. I've made decisions that cost people their jobs, their livelihoods. I've crushed competitors without a second thought. I told myself that was what it took to succeed. That I didn't need anyone. That I couldn't afford to need anyone."
Her fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt. "And now?"
"Now I know I was lying to myself." He cupped her face, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. "From the moment you walked onto my plane, I needed you. Not just your skills. Not just your mind. You, Lauren. All of you."
Her eyes glistened. "I was so scared to want this. To want you. I thought if I let myself feel it, I'd lose everything I've worked for."
"What changed?"
"I realize I was afraid of the wrong thing." She rose on her toes, her mouth brushing against his. "I was afraid of losing control. But with you, I don't lose myself. I find myself."
He kissed her then, deep and slow, tasting the whiskey on her tongue. His hands slid down her back, pressing her against him. She melted into his embrace, her fingers tangling in his hair.
The kiss broke, both of them breathing hard. He looked at her, really looked at her. The woman who had seen him at his worst. Who had challenged him, pushed him, refused to let him hide behind his walls.
"I love you," he said.
The words came out rough, raw. He had never said them to anyone. Not like this. Not meaning it with every fiber of his being.
Lauren's breath caught. A tear slipped down her cheek. "I love you too."
He swept her into his arms, carrying her toward the master cabin. She laughed, a sound of pure joy that made his chest ache. He laid her on the bed, the silk sheets cool beneath her.
He took his time undressing her. Each button, each clasp, a deliberate act of worship. He wanted to remember this moment forever. The way the lamplight played across her skin. The way her breath hitched when his fingers brushed her thighs. The way she looked at him like he was the only man in the world.
He started with her blouse, slipping one button free, then another, parting the fabric to reveal the delicate lace beneath. He pressed his lips to the curve of her shoulder, tasting the salt of her skin. She shivered beneath him, her fingers tightening in his hair. He eased the blouse from her shoulders, letting it fall forgotten to the floor. His mouth followed the path his hands had made, trailing kisses along her collarbone, down to the edge of lace.
He unclasped her bra with practiced fingers, pulling it away to bare her breasts to the warm glow of the cabin light. She was beautiful. Full and soft, her nipples already tightening in the cool air. He lowered his head, taking one peak into his mouth, swirling his tongue around the sensitive bud. She gasped, her back arching off the bed, pressing herself closer to him.
"Tristan," she breathed.
He lavished attention on her, moving from one breast to the other, sucking, nibbling, teasing until she was writhing beneath him. His hands found the button of her trousers, easing it free, sliding the fabric down her hips along with the thin scrap of lace underneath. She lifted her hips to help him, and then she was bare before him, all golden skin and soft curves.
He sat back for a moment, just looking at her. She flushed under his gaze, but didn't look away. That was one of the things he loved about her. She never looked away.
"You're staring," she murmured.
"I'm admiring." He ran a hand up her calf, her thigh, feeling the muscles tremble beneath his touch. "There's a difference."
She laughed, but it dissolved into a moan as he bent his head between her thighs. He kissed the inside of her leg, working his way higher, his breath hot against her slick flesh. When his tongue finally found her, she cried out, her hands fisting in the sheets.
He took his time. Long, slow strokes of his tongue, circling her clit, then dipping lower to taste her more deeply. She was already so wet, her body trembling with need. He slid one finger inside her, then two, curling them to find the spot that made her gasp his name.
"Please," she whimpered. "Please, I need you inside me."
He could have stayed there forever, bringing her to the edge and pulling back, but his own need was becoming unbearable. He shed his clothes quickly, his erection springing free, hard and aching for her. He settled between her legs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance.
"Look at me," he said.
Her eyes opened, heavy-lidded with desire. Green and gold and burning for him.
He entered her slowly, inch by inch, watching her face. Her eyes fluttered closed. Her lips parted on a soft moan. She was so beautiful, so perfect, and she was his. He groaned as her heat enveloped him, her walls clenching around him, drawing him deeper.
He held still for a moment, letting her adjust to the fullness of him. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer, deeper. Her nails raked down his back, leaving trails of fire.
"Move," she whispered. "Please, Tristan, move."
He withdrew slowly, then thrust back in, setting a rhythm that was both ancient and new. She met him stroke for stroke, her hips rising to meet his, their bodies moving together in perfect sync. The sound of their joining filled the cabin, wet and slick and obscene in the best way.
"God, you feel so good," he groaned against her neck. "So tight. So perfect."
"Don't stop," she gasped. "Don't ever stop."
He could feel the tension building, coiling tight in his gut. But he held back, wanting to bring her with him. He reached between them, his thumb finding her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he drove into her. She cried out, her body arching beneath him, her inner walls starting to flutter around his cock.
"Come for me, Lauren. Let go. I've got you."
She shattered, her inner walls clenching around him in waves. She screamed his name, her nails digging into his shoulders hard enough to leave marks. The sensation pushed him over the edge. He buried his face in her neck, groaning her name as he spilled himself inside her, pulse after pulse of hot release that seemed to go on forever.
They lay there, tangled together, their hearts pounding in unison. He rolled onto his side, pulling her with him. She tucked her head under his chin, her breath warm against his chest. He could feel the aftershocks still trembling through her body, her inner muscles occasionally clenching around his softening cock.
"We should do this more often," she murmured.
He laughed, the sound rumbling through his chest. "Solve global supply chain crises or make love until we can't move?"
"Both."
He kissed the top of her head. "I'm not letting you go, Lauren. Not when we're back on solid ground. Not ever."
She tilted her face up to look at him. "What are you saying?"
"I'm saying I want you in my life. In my company. In my bed. I want to wake up to you every morning and fall asleep with you every night. I've spent my whole life building an empire, and now I know it was all leading to you."
Her eyes shone with unshed tears. "That's quite a pitch, Mr. Decker."
"Is it working?"
She kissed him, soft and sweet. "It's working."
They held each other as the yacht swayed gently on the calm water. Outside, the first light of dawn painted the horizon in shades of gold and rose. The crisis was over. The battle was won. But this, Tristan realized, was just the beginning.
He had spent his life chasing the next deal, the next acquisition, the next impossible challenge. But lying here with Lauren in his arms, he understood that the only thing worth chasing was her.
And he would spend the rest of his life proving it.
Horizon Claimed
The yacht glided through the early morning mist, and Tristan stood at the railing, watching the shoreline emerge like a promise. Beside him, Lauren pressed her shoulder against his arm, her hair still loose and tangled from the night before.
"Feels strange to be going back," she said. "Like we've been living in a different world."
He turned, cupping her face in his hands. "We have been. And I don't want to leave that world behind. I want to take it with us."
Her green eyes searched his, curious and warm. "What do you mean?"
He didn't answer yet. Instead, he took her hand and led her toward the gangplank as the crew prepared for docking. The engines hummed beneath their feet, a familiar pulse that had become the rhythm of their days together.
An hour later, they stepped onto solid ground. Lauren laughed softly, steadying herself on his arm. "I forgot what it feels like to stand still."
Tristan guided her away from the bustling port, down a quiet path that wound along the waterfront. The morning sun cast long shadows across the cobblestones, and the air smelled of salt and blooming jasmine. He stopped at a small overlook where the sea stretched endlessly before them.
"Lauren, I need to tell you something."
She turned to face him, her expression open and trusting. "You can tell me anything."
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. Her breath caught as he opened it, revealing a sapphire ring set between two diamonds, the metal gleaming in the soft light.
"This isn't a negotiation," he said, his voice low and certain. "This is a declaration. I've spent my whole life building an empire, thinking that was enough. But it wasn't. You showed me that."
Lauren's eyes glistened. "Tristan..."
"I'm offering you more than a job, more than a place in my company. I'm offering you my life. Every part of it. The good and the complicated. I want you beside me, not just for a crisis, but for everything."
He took her hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. "I've already had the lawyers draw up a partnership agreement. You'll have equity and a voice in every decision. But that's just business. What I'm really asking is this."
He knelt, the ring catching the sunlight. "Lauren Bennett, will you marry me? Will you let me spend the rest of my life proving that you're the most important thing in my world?"
A tear slipped down her cheek. She laughed, a sound full of joy and relief. "Yes. God, yes. I love you, Tristan."
He slid the ring onto her finger, and it fit perfectly, as if it had always belonged there. He rose and pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply. The world around them faded away.
"I love you," he murmured against her lips. "More than I ever thought I could love anything."
She pulled back, looking at the ring, then at him. "I can't believe this is real."
"It's real," he said. "And I'm going to spend every day making sure you know it."
He led her back to the yacht, the crew having departed for the day. They were alone. The cabin door closed behind them, and he turned to face her, his hands resting on her hips.
"I want to make love to my fiancée," he said softly. "Is that okay?"
She answered by pulling his shirt from his pants, her fingers working the buttons. "It's more than okay."
They undressed each other slowly, deliberately, savoring the intimacy. His fingers found the zipper at the back of her dress, drawing it down inch by inch until the fabric pooled at her feet. She stood before him in nothing but pale silk, the morning light filtering through the curtains gilding her skin. He traced the edge of her collarbone with his fingertip, then bent to press his lips there, feeling her pulse quicken beneath his mouth.
Her hands moved over his chest as she pushed the shirt from his shoulders, her palms flat against the warmth of his skin. She could feel the steady beat of his heart, strong and sure, and it made her own race faster. He unclasped her bra with a practiced motion, letting it fall away, and her breath hitched as the cool air met her bare skin. He cupped her breasts, his thumbs circling her nipples until they hardened, and she let out a soft, helpless sound.
"You're beautiful," he said, his voice rough with want. "Every time I see you, I can't believe you're real."
When they were bare, he lifted her onto the bed and joined her, his body covering hers. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a golden glow over her skin.
He kissed her forehead, then the bridge of her nose, then her lips, lingering there until she opened for him. "I'm going to take my time."
"I want that," she whispered. "I want all of it."
He moved down her body, his lips trailing over her throat, pressing into the hollow where her pulse beat fastest. He lingered at her collarbone, then lower, taking one nipple into his mouth while his hand caressed the other. She arched into him, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. He alternated between them, his tongue circling, his teeth grazing gently, until she was squirming beneath him, her breath coming in shallow gasps.
He continued his descent, pressing kisses down her ribs, across her stomach, dipping into the curve of her waist. His hands followed, stroking her sides, her hips, the soft skin of her inner thighs. He could feel the heat radiating from her center, could smell her arousal, and it made his own need pulse urgently.
When he reached her center, she gasped. He didn't rush. He parted her with his fingers, exposing her most sensitive flesh, and then his mouth was on her, his tongue tracing slow circles around her clit. She cried out, her hips bucking against him, but he held her steady with one hand pressed flat against her stomach. He explored her with his tongue and fingers, learning her responses, discovering what made her moan, what made her whimper, what made her grip the sheets. He slid one finger inside her, then two, curling them to find the spot that made her gasp his name.
"Tristan," she moaned, her voice breaking. "God, that feels..."
He drew out her pleasure, building it slowly, bringing her to the edge, then pulling back, letting her hover there. Her thighs trembled, her back arched, and her hands fisted in the sheets.
"Please," she moaned. "Tristan, please."
He rose over her, his body a warm shield. "Look at me."
She did. Her green eyes were dark with desire, her lips parted, her chest heaving.
"I'm yours," he said. "And you're mine."
He entered her slowly, a deep, claiming thrust that made them both gasp. She was slick and tight around him, and he had to still himself to keep from losing control too soon. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him closer, deeper, and he groaned against her neck.
He moved inside her with a rhythm that was more a dance than a conquest. Slow at first, savoring every sensation, the way she tightened around him when he thrust deep, the way she shivered when he pulled back. Her nails raked down his back, leaving trails of fire, and he hissed at the pleasure-pain of it.
"More," she breathed. "I need more."
He gave her more. He quickened his pace, driving into her with purpose, each thrust hitting the place inside her that made her see stars. She met him stroke for stroke, her hips rising to take him, her body welcoming him deeper. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the cabin, wet and urgent.
"I love you," she breathed, her nails digging into his shoulders.
"I love you," he answered, his voice breaking.
He kept his pace steady, his forehead pressed against hers, their breath mingling. This wasn't about dominance or surrender. It was about union, about two people becoming something greater than themselves. He could feel her clenching around him, feel the tension building in her body, and he knew she was close.
"Come for me," he murmured against her lips. "Let go, Lauren."
She came first, her body shuddering around him in waves, her inner walls clenching and releasing as her orgasm ripped through her. Her cry of pleasure was swallowed by his kiss, and he swallowed every sound she made, drinking it in. He followed moments later, his release a wave that crested and broke, his hips jerking as he spilled himself inside her, groaning her name against her throat. He emptied himself completely, his body trembling with the force of it, and then collapsed against her, careful to keep his weight from crushing her.
Afterward, they lay tangled together, the sheets rumpled around them. He traced the line of her jaw, his touch light.
"I meant every word," he said. "You're my partner. In every way."
She turned, pressing a kiss to his chest. "I know. I feel it. I feel everything."
He held her close, watching the sunlight spread across the cabin. The horizon beyond the window was wide and open, full of possibility.
"We'll build something new," he said. "Together. A life that's stronger than either of us alone."
She lifted her head, her smile brilliant. "I can't wait to start."
He kissed her again, a slow, deep kiss that held the promise of forever. And in the quiet of the morning, with the sea stretching out before them, they began their new horizon. Claimed at last.
