The First Treatment

Tess Mulligan stood on the sidewalk outside Salon Richards, her fingers tightening around the leather planner clutched to her chest. The midday sun pressed against her tailored blouse, and the usual knot of stress sat heavy between her shoulder blades. Three weddings in the next month, two bridezillas already calling at dawn, and her assistant on vacation. She needed a break, not this. A simple haircut. Nothing more. The exclusive new salon had come recommended by a client who swore it changed everything, but Tess remained skeptical. Magic treatments? Please. She was here for sharp layers and maybe a conditioning mask, then straight back to her office.

She pushed through the glass door. Cool air wrapped around her, carrying the faint scent of lavender and something sweeter, like vanilla warmed over low heat. The reception area gleamed with marble and soft lighting. No loud music, no chatter, just a low hum that made the space feel private. Tess approached the desk and forced a polite smile.

"Hi. I have an appointment at one. Tess Mulligan."

The receptionist, a woman with sleek dark hair and a serene expression, checked the book and nodded. "Of course. Mark will be right with you. Please, have a seat."

Tess chose a chair near the window and flipped open her planner, scanning the endless list of calls she still needed to make. Her foot tapped against the polished floor. She should be at the venue right now, not wasting time on vanity.

A tall figure stepped out from the back hallway. Mark Richards moved with easy confidence, his dark hair swept back, sharp jaw clean-shaven, and eyes the color of strong espresso. He wore a fitted black shirt rolled at the sleeves, revealing forearms that looked strong enough to handle more than just scissors. His smile arrived slow and warm as he extended a hand.

"Ms. Mulligan. I'm Mark. It's good to meet you. You look like you've been carrying the weight of the world on those shoulders."

His grip was firm, steady. Tess withdrew her hand a beat too late, suddenly aware of how dry her palm felt against his. "Just a busy week. I only need a trim, really. Something professional."

"Professional can be beautiful," he said, leading her toward the consultation area. His voice stayed low, almost hypnotic. "But I have a feeling you're ready for something that feels good too. Tell me about your usual routine."

They sat across from each other at a small table. Mark asked questions about her hair care, her stress levels, her last real night off. Every answer she gave seemed to pull more from her than intended. She admitted the long hours, the skipped meals, the way her body felt wound tight. His gaze never left her face, and the subtle approval in his expression made her stomach tighten in a way that had nothing to do with skepticism.

"I think we start simple," he said at last. "A deep conditioning treatment to ease the tension. The formula is special. Clients often notice a shift right away. Shall we begin?"

Tess hesitated, then nodded. This was why she came. She followed him to the styling station, settled into the leather chair, and leaned back as he draped a cape over her shoulders. His fingers brushed the nape of her neck while he adjusted it. A small spark of warmth traveled down her spine.

"Close your eyes," Mark instructed. "Let the water do the work first."

She obeyed. Warm water cascaded over her scalp, followed by the cool slide of his fingers working in a thick, lightly scented cream. The product tingled, not unpleasant. Then the sensation changed. A deeper pulse began at her roots, spreading outward. Her brunette strands, usually so uniform, started to shift under the rinse. She couldn't see it yet, but she felt the color lifting, strands lightening thread by thread into soft honey-blonde tones that caught the light.

Heat bloomed low in her belly. Tess's thighs pressed together instinctively. The water continued to flow, and every pass of Mark's hands sent another wave of pleasure curling through her. It wasn't just the scalp. Her nipples tightened against the fabric of her blouse. A slow, slick ache gathered between her legs. She bit her lip to keep from making a sound.

"How does that feel?" Mark asked, voice calm and close.

"Good," she managed, surprised by the breathy edge in her own words. "Really good. Is that normal?"

"For this treatment, yes. Your body is responding. Just breathe through it."

She tried. The pleasure built in steady pulses, syncing with the gentle massage. Her thoughts drifted. The planner, the calls, the deadlines, all of it felt distant. In its place came a hazy warmth, a craving to stay exactly where she was. Her hair, now fully honey-blonde and shining, spilled over the sink edge in soft waves. The color change was subtle enough that she might convince herself it was a trick of the light, yet undeniable when she caught a glimpse in the mirror above.

Mark finished the rinse and wrapped her hair in a towel. He guided her upright. The movement sent another jolt of arousal through her. Her cheeks flushed. She crossed her legs, hoping he wouldn't notice the way her breathing had quickened.

"You look lovely already," he said, meeting her eyes in the mirror. "A little lighter suits you."

Tess stared at her reflection. The blonde was striking against her features, softening them. She looked younger, less severe. The skepticism she'd arrived with felt fuzzy at the edges.

"I... didn't expect that," she admitted.

"Most don't. It's why they come back." Mark handed her a small card embossed with the salon logo. "Complimentary follow-up next week. Same time. No charge. Consider it part of the first treatment."

Her fingers closed around the card. The compulsion to accept it, to return, settled warm and certain in her chest. She tucked the card into her planner, though part of her already knew she wouldn't need the reminder.

At the front desk she paid, the amount higher than usual but worth it for how relaxed her body felt. The lingering arousal hummed beneath her skin like a secret. She touched a strand of the new honey-blonde hair and smiled despite herself.

"See you soon, Tess," Mark said from the doorway, that knowing smile back in place.

She stepped outside into the afternoon light, planner still in hand but her steps lighter. The stress had eased, replaced by something sweeter and harder to name. Already her mind drifted to next week, to whatever the next treatment might bring. She couldn't wait to feel it again.
