The First Whisper
The private audience chamber of the Serbian royal palace glowed with the low flicker of oil lamps, their light catching on gilded moldings that had begun to tarnish in the years since King Alexander took the throne. Heavy velvet curtains muffled the distant sounds of the guard changing below, and the air hung thick with the scent of beeswax and rosewater. Queen Draga Obrenović stood at the center of it all, her back to the carved oak door, the silk of her gown whispering against her full hips as she turned.
Captain Lazar Vuković entered as ordered, his boots striking the marble with measured precision. At thirty-five he carried the weight of command in his broad shoulders and the faint scars that crossed his forearms. His dark hair was cropped close beneath his cap, and his eyes, sharp from years on the battlefield, fixed first on the floor before lifting to meet hers.
“Your Majesty summoned me,” he said, voice low and clipped, the formal tone of a soldier who still believed in duty.
Draga smiled, slow and deliberate. She let her gaze travel over him, savoring the way his posture stiffened under it. “I did, Captain. Close the door.”
He obeyed. The latch clicked, sealing them inside. She stepped closer, the heavy fabric of her skirts brushing his polished boots. One gloved hand rose to rest lightly on the front of his uniform jacket, fingers tracing the line of buttons.
“You stand so straight for your king,” she murmured. “Do you stand so straight for your queen?”
Lazar’s jaw tightened. “My loyalty belongs to the crown, Majesty.”
“The crown,” she repeated, tasting the word. Her hand slid lower, palm flattening over the hard plane of his stomach. “And what does that loyalty demand when the crown asks something… personal?”
She felt the first tremor beneath her touch. His breath hitched, barely audible, yet it thrilled her. This was the moment the memoir would record, the instant discipline met hunger. She had written the opening lines only that morning: Power is not taken. It is offered, one reluctant inch at a time.
Draga removed her gloves, one finger at a time, and set them aside. Bare fingers returned to his chest, then drifted upward to the column of his throat. “Kneel, Lazar.”
His eyes widened, then narrowed. “Majesty… this is not—”
“It is exactly what I command,” she interrupted, voice velvet over steel. “Your king gave you to me for protection. Tonight I require a different service.”
Conflict warred across his face. Duty to Alexander, the young man who still played at sovereignty, pulled against the heat already stirring in his blood. Draga saw it, fed it. She stepped back, lifted her skirts slowly, revealing the pale length of her thighs and the dark thatch between. The scent of her arousal rose, warm and unmistakable.
“On your knees,” she said again, softer now, almost coaxing. “Taste what loyalty truly means.”
Lazar’s hands clenched at his sides. For a long moment the only sound was the crackle of the lamps. Then, with a low exhale that sounded like surrender, he sank to one knee, then the other. The marble was cold beneath him. He looked up once, eyes dark with shame and something hotter, before leaning forward.
His mouth met her first with hesitation, lips brushing the soft curls. Draga’s fingers threaded into his hair, guiding him closer. “Use your tongue, Captain. Show me the obedience you hide behind your medals.”
He obeyed. The first slow lick drew a quiet hum from her throat. She widened her stance, silk pooling around his shoulders. His tongue grew bolder, parting her, tasting the slick heat she had cultivated through the long afternoon of anticipation. Each stroke sent sparks up her spine. She rocked gently against his face, letting him feel the weight of her command in the press of her thighs.
“Deeper,” she whispered. “You have sworn to defend your queen. Defend her pleasure.”
Lazar groaned against her, the vibration traveling straight to her core. His hands rose to grip her hips, steadying her as he worked. The conflict had not vanished; she could feel it in the tension of his shoulders, the way he paused between strokes as if remembering who watched from the shadows. Yet his tongue continued, licking, sucking, drawing her wetness onto his chin.
From the corner of her eye, Draga caught the movement. A narrow gap in the tapestry behind the dais revealed a sliver of pale face and trembling hands. King Alexander stood hidden there, slight frame rigid, eyes wide and glassy. He had come as she knew he would, drawn by the promise of her whispered invitation earlier that day. His presence sharpened every sensation. The power of it flooded her, hot and heady.
She pressed Lazar’s face more firmly against her. “That’s it. Devour what your king cannot satisfy.”
The captain’s tongue flicked faster, circling her clit before plunging back inside. Her thighs began to tremble. She let a soft moan escape, loud enough for the hidden watcher to hear. Alexander’s shadow shifted, one hand disappearing below the tapestry’s edge. The sight sent a fresh rush of wetness onto Lazar’s tongue.
“You taste like victory,” she breathed, voice thick. “And you will taste it again. Often.”
Lazar’s eyes flicked upward, meeting hers. In that glance she saw the last thread of resistance snap. His mouth sealed over her, sucking hard, and she came with a low, regal cry that echoed off the chamber walls. Her fingers tightened in his hair, holding him there through the pulses until she gentled her grip.
When she released him he stayed kneeling, lips glistening, chest heaving. Draga smoothed her skirts down with deliberate calm, though her pulse still raced. She touched his cheek, thumb tracing the dampness he had earned.
“Rise, Captain. And remember whose whisper now commands your loyalty.”
Lazar stood, movements stiff, the front of his trousers visibly strained. He said nothing, but the bow he offered was deeper than protocol required. From the tapestry, the faint sound of ragged breathing reached her ears. Draga smiled, private and triumphant.
The first whisper had been spoken. The memoir would remember it as the night the guard began to kneel.
