Cliffside Sparks

Lorena Tempe pulled her rental car to a stop at the top of the winding drive, the tires crunching over gravel as the engine ticked into silence. Haven's Edge spread out below like something from a postcard, but this cliffside estate took her breath away in a way no photo ever could. The main house rose in pale stone and weathered wood, perched right at the edge of the drop, with infinity views of the Pacific crashing against the rocks far below. Sunlight glinted off the infinity pool that seemed to spill straight into the ocean. She had scouted dozens of venues, but none hit her like this. Professional focus, she reminded herself, tightening her grip on the steering wheel. She was here to plan the wedding of the season, not get distracted by real estate.

She stepped out into the salt-laced breeze, smoothing the tailored navy dress that hugged her curves without looking unprofessional. Her chestnut waves caught the wind, and she tucked a strand behind one ear as she took in the terraced gardens, the private coves, the adventure gear racks visible near the cliff path. Perfect. The client would lose their mind over this place. Lorena squared her shoulders and started toward the entrance, clipboard in hand and heels clicking with purpose.

The front doors opened before she reached them. Three men stepped out, and the air seemed to shift. The tallest one moved first, broad-shouldered and sun-streaked, his blue eyes locking on hers with an easy confidence that made her pulse tick faster than it should. Jack Nesco, she recalled from the emails. Leader of the adventure company that ran the estate. Behind him came a leaner figure with neatly trimmed dark hair and thoughtful brown eyes, Peter, the strategic one who handled the bookings and logistics. The youngest brought up the rear, wavy light brown hair tousled, green eyes warm and a slow smile already forming. Levi. The one who managed the culinary side.

"Lorena Tempe," Jack said, his voice low and carrying just enough command to make her straighten. He extended a hand, and when she took it his grip was firm, callused from outdoor work. "Glad you made it. We've been looking forward to showing you around."

"Thanks for fitting me in on short notice," she replied, keeping her tone crisp even as his thumb brushed the back of her hand before he let go. "The photos didn't do it justice. This view is going to sell the entire event on its own."

Peter stepped forward next, offering a measured smile that didn't quite hide the intensity in his gaze. "We built the terraces specifically for moments like this. Weddings, corporate retreats, whatever the client needs. I can walk you through the capacity numbers while we go."

Levi's handshake lingered a beat longer, his fingers warm against hers. "And I can promise the food will match the view. If you have any dietary notes for your clients, I'm already taking mental notes."

She laughed softly, the sound surprising her. "I'll keep that in mind. Lead the way, gentlemen."

They started the tour together, a natural formation with Jack ahead, pointing out features with expansive gestures. The group moved down the cliff path, wind whipping around them, and Lorena felt the estate's magic settle into her bones. Every angle offered new drama, from the stone amphitheater tucked against the rocks to the hidden hot spring pool fed by natural springs. Jack kept close, his arm brushing hers once when he leaned in to indicate a trail.

"You strike me as someone who likes control over the details," he said, his teasing edge softening the words. "This path here can be lit with lanterns at night. Very romantic. Very... flexible."

Lorena met his eyes, heat flickering low in her stomach at the way he said flexible. "I appreciate flexibility. Keeps things interesting when the unexpected happens."

Peter fell into step on her other side during the garden portion, his voice precise yet oddly intimate. "We've zoned the property so each section can run independently. No overlap conflicts. It's all about creating clean lines and clear expectations."

She glanced at him, noting the sharp jaw and the way his eyes lingered on her mouth for half a second too long. "You sound like you enjoy planning almost as much as I do."

"Almost," he said, the corner of his mouth lifting. "Though I suspect you bring a certain... creativity to your work that I'd like to see in action."

Levi joined them near the kitchen entrance later, rolling up the sleeves of his casual shirt to reveal lean forearms. "Hungry yet? I pulled some local catches this morning. Thought you might want a preview before dinner."

She accepted a sample bite he offered on a small fork, flavors bursting across her tongue. His eyes watched her reaction with open pleasure, and when she hummed approval his smile turned warmer, almost intimate. "You're good at this," she said. "Making people feel taken care of."

"I try," Levi murmured, voice dropping. "Especially when the person seems worth the effort."

By the time they circled back to the main terrace for dinner, Lorena's professional armor felt thinner than usual. The long table overlooked the darkening ocean, candles flickering between platters Levi had clearly prepared with care. Jack sat at the head, Peter to her left, Levi on her right. Conversation flowed easily at first, business details, client preferences, logistics. Then the tone shifted.

"So what drew you to this line of work?" Jack asked, pouring her more wine. His fingers brushed hers on the glass. "You seem too... alive to spend all your time behind a clipboard."

Lorena took a sip, the rich red warming her throat. "I like creating moments people remember. Big, messy, beautiful ones. It satisfies something." She paused, aware of three pairs of eyes on her. "What about you three? Running an adventure company and a venue together must come with its own complications."

Peter answered first, precise as ever. "We complement each other. Jack handles the thrill, Levi the comfort, I keep the numbers honest. It works when we remember not to compete."

Levi chuckled, the sound low. "Mostly works. Though sometimes the competition makes things more interesting."

Lorena felt the undercurrent, the way each man watched her reaction. Her mind flashed with uninvited images: Jack's strong hands guiding her along a cliff path, Peter's steady voice praising her choices, Levi's careful attention turning physical. She wanted all of them. The realization hit like a wave, startling in its clarity. Her independence had always been her shield, but here, surrounded by their distinct presences, she felt the first cracks forming.

Dinner stretched on, tension coiling tighter with every shared glance. Jack's teasing grew bolder, Peter's compliments more pointed, Levi's touches on her wrist when he refilled her plate lingering just long enough. She laughed at their stories, offered her own, but inside her thoughts raced. Three men. Three very different pulls. She couldn't choose. The idea of wanting them all at once both thrilled and terrified her.

As plates cleared and the sky deepened to indigo, the evening wound down without any of them moving to end it. Jack leaned back, stretching in a way that drew her eye to the breadth of his chest. "Stay as long as you like tonight. We've got rooms ready if you want to walk the property again at first light."

Peter nodded, eyes warm behind his thoughtful expression. "The cliff at sunrise is something special. I'd enjoy showing you."

Levi simply smiled, that easy, attentive smile that promised comfort and more. "And breakfast won't be an afterthought."

Lorena stood, gathering her clipboard with hands that weren't quite steady. The brothers rose with her, each offering a distinct farewell. Jack's hand at the small of her back guided her toward the guest wing with quiet possession. Peter's murmured goodnight carried an undercurrent of promise. Levi's parting touch on her elbow felt like a caress.

Alone in the elegant room overlooking the ocean, Lorena pressed her palms to the cool glass of the window. Her body hummed with awareness. She had arrived focused and professional. Now desire for all three brothers simmered beneath her skin, undeniable and complicated. She exhaled slowly, already knowing sleep would not come easily.
