The Debt Settlement
Bianca Costa stepped out of the black sedan and into the shadow of the Rinaldi estate. The October wind cut through her silk blouse, but she refused to shiver. She had dressed carefully that morning, selecting each piece with the precision of a woman who understood that clothing was language. Cream silk against tailored gray wool, simple pearl studs at her ears. Armor. The kind that had protected her through a hundred fashion industry battles. It would have to protect her through this too.
Nico Rinaldi stood at the bottom of the marble steps, his dark eyes sweeping over her with the cold assessment of a man who had seen too many people break. "Miss Costa. My brother is waiting."
She lifted her chin. "Then let's not keep him waiting."
The interior of the estate was all dark wood and soft lighting, the kind of old money that didn't need to announce itself. Original paintings hung in gilded frames along the walls. Persian rugs in deep burgundy and gold cushioned her footsteps, each one probably worth more than her first car. Bianca catalogued every detail as she followed Nico through the foyer, past a grand staircase curved like a spine, into a study that smelled of leather and whiskey.
And there he was.
Severino Rinaldi rose from behind a mahogany desk, and the room seemed to contract around him. He was taller than she had expected, broader in the shoulders. The photographs in the society pages didn't capture the weight of his presence, the way his dark eyes seemed to absorb light rather than reflect it. Salt and pepper threaded through his hair, and faint lines bracketed his mouth, carved by years of decisions that probably ruined some people and enriched others. He wore a charcoal suit that fit him like a second skin, no tie, the top button of his white shirt undone.
"Bianca Costa." His voice was low and smooth, with an accent that spoke of Chicago streets and Italian grandmothers. "I've heard a great deal about you."
"I'm sure you have." She stepped forward before Nico could escort her, extending her hand. "Though I hope your sources are more reliable than the society pages."
A flicker of something crossed his face. Interest, perhaps. Amusement. "The society pages say you're the most beautiful designer to emerge from Milan since Versace."
"They also said I was engaged to a duke last spring. I've never even met a duke."
"Then I'll trust my own sources."
His hand closed around hers. His grip was firm and warm, and he held on a beat longer than necessary. Bianca felt the calluses on his palm, the strength in his fingers. This was a man who had built his empire with his own hands, not just with money and influence.
"Please. Sit."
She took the chair across from his desk, crossing her legs at the ankle. The leather creaked beneath her. Sev settled back into his own chair, and for a long moment, he simply looked at her. Not the way men looked at her at galas and parties, with hunger or calculation or some tedious combination of both. This was something else. Something methodical. He was reading her the way she read a bolt of fabric, searching for flaws, for potential, for the best way to shape her into what he wanted.
She refused to drop her gaze.
"Your father's debt," he said finally, "is substantial. Three million, with interest that has been compounding for eighteen months."
"I'm aware of the figure."
"Are you aware that I could have sent men to collect in other ways? That your family's business could have been seized, your mother's home repossessed, your brother's gambling debts called in full?"
Her stomach tightened, but she kept her voice steady. "I'm aware that you chose not to. Which means you want something else."
Something shifted in his expression. Approval, perhaps. "I want your presence. For one year. You'll live here, in this house. You'll accompany me to events, business meetings, functions. You'll dress as I require, speak as I direct, and present the image of a woman who belongs to me."
"Belongs to you." She let the words hang in the air, tasting them. "That's a strong phrase."
"It's a strong arrangement. You'll be my personal consultant. That's the term my lawyers prefer."
"And what exactly will I be consulting you on?"
"Fashion. Presentation. The nuances of high society that I find tedious but necessary." He leaned forward, and the movement drew her attention to the breadth of his shoulders, the way his jacket pulled across his chest. "You're a Costa. Your family has been in fashion for three generations. You know how to move through rooms I can only bulldoze through. I need that."
"You need a trophy."
"I need a partner in perception." His eyes held hers. "Whether you choose to be a trophy is up to you."
The words landed like a challenge, and Bianca felt something flare in her chest. Defiance. Interest. A dangerous combination.
"Show me the contract."
He slid a document across the desk, and she read it carefully. Every clause. Every stipulation. Her own lawyer had reviewed a copy the day before, but she needed to see the words herself, to understand exactly what she was signing away.
One year of her life.
Her freedom to come and go as she pleased, curtailed.
Her body, technically her own, but her presentation, her image, her public persona, all subject to his approval.
In exchange, her family's debt was cleared. Her brother's markers were called off. Her mother kept the house in Lake Forest.
And at the end of the year, she walked away with five hundred thousand dollars in her own account.
"Sign," Sev said, "and the debt is settled."
She picked up the pen. The metal was cool against her fingers. "You understand that I'm not going to be a silent ornament. I have opinions. I have a career. I have a life that I'm putting on hold for this."
"I don't want a silent ornament. Silent ornaments are boring." He watched her sign, his gaze tracking the movement of her hand. "I want you."
The words sent a shiver down her spine. She finished signing and set the pen down. "Done."
"Good." He stood, and she rose with him. "Now. The first order of business."
"What's that?"
"Your wardrobe."
She blinked. "My wardrobe is perfectly adequate."
"Your wardrobe is designed for Bianca Costa, fashion designer and socialite. You need a wardrobe for Bianca Costa, my personal consultant." He rounded the desk, and suddenly he was close, too close, close enough that she could smell his cologne, sandalwood and something darker beneath it. "Come with me."
He led her out of the study and up the grand staircase, down a hallway lined with doors. He opened one and gestured her inside.
It was a dressing room. No, it was a boutique. Racks of clothing lined the walls, organized by color and type. Shoes sat in glass cases like jewels. Accessories hung on velvet displays. In the center of the room stood a full-length mirror framed in gold.
"This is where you'll keep the wardrobe I select for you," Sev said. "Your personal belongings are being moved to the bedroom next door. But the clothing you wear in public, the clothing you wear in this house, will come from here."
"You've had this prepared."
"Since the moment your father signed the preliminary agreement."
She turned to face him, and found him closer than she expected. "You've been planning this."
"I've been anticipating it." His eyes moved over her, slow and deliberate, tracking the line of her throat, the slope of her shoulder. "The cream silk is a good choice. It brings out the warmth in your skin. But the cut is too conservative. It hides your shape."
"It's a business meeting. Not a date."
"Everything with me is a business meeting. But that doesn't mean you can't be beautiful." He reached out, and before she could react, his fingers brushed her collarbone, tracing the edge of her blouse. "You have excellent bone structure. Long limbs. A narrow waist. Your body is a canvas, Bianca. I intend to dress it properly."
Her breath caught at his touch. She told herself it was surprise, not desire. She told herself the heat spreading through her chest was indignation, not arousal.
She was lying.
"Turn around," he said.
"Why?"
"Because I asked you to."
She held his gaze for a long moment. Then, slowly, she turned.
His hands settled on her shoulders, light but firm, and he guided her to stand in front of the mirror. She watched his reflection as he looked at her, at her back, at the curve of her spine visible through the silk.
"The first thing we'll change is the foundation garments," he said. "You're wearing a standard bra. It doesn't lift properly. I'll have you fitted for something that emphasizes your natural shape."
"You can tell what kind of bra I'm wearing?"
"I can tell that you're wearing armor. And I want to see what's underneath it."
His hands slid down her arms, and she felt the heat of his palms through the silk. He stopped at her wrists, his thumbs pressing lightly against her pulse points.
"Your heart is racing," he said.
"Yours would be too, if a stranger was touching you."
"I'm not a stranger. I'm your consultant." His reflection smiled, a slow curve of his lips that didn't reach his eyes. "And you're mine."
She pulled away, turning to face him. "I'm not yours. I'm a woman who signed a contract. There's a difference."
"Is there?" He stepped closer, and she stepped back, and the game continued until her shoulders hit the mirror. "You signed your name to my terms. You agreed to live in my house, wear my clothes, present my image. You are mine, Bianca. In every way that matters."
"Not in every way."
"No," he agreed, and his voice dropped, rough and low. "Not yet."
The words hung between them, heavy with implication. Bianca felt her pulse hammering in her throat, felt the heat of his body inches from hers, felt the weight of his gaze like a physical thing.
He lifted his hand again, and this time he didn't stop at her collarbone. His fingers traced the hollow of her throat, feeling the rapid flutter of her pulse beneath her skin. She should have pushed him away. She should have asserted her boundaries, reminded him of the contract's limits, demanded respect.
Instead, she held his gaze and let the silence stretch.
His hand moved lower, fingertips grazing the swell of her breast above the silk. Her nipples tightened beneath the fabric, and she knew he could see it, could see the way her body was responding to him despite her determination to remain unaffected. The silk whispered against her skin as his thumb brushed across the peak, and a soft sound escaped her lips before she could catch it.
"You see?" His voice was barely above a whisper. "Your body already knows what your mind refuses to accept."
"My body is a liar."
"Your body is honest." He pressed closer, and she felt the hard length of him against her hip, the evidence of his own response. "My body is honest too."
His mouth hovered at her temple, his breath warm against her hair. One of his hands found her waist, fingers spreading across the silk, pulling her slightly closer. The other hand slid into her hair, tilting her head back until she was looking up at him.
She should stop this. She should remind him of the contract, of the boundaries, of the professional nature of their arrangement.
Instead, her hands found his chest, palms flat against the crisp white shirt, feeling the heat of his skin beneath. His heart was hammering, matching hers beat for beat.
"This doesn't change anything," she said.
"No?" His thumb traced her lower lip, and her mouth parted involuntarily. "Then tell me to stop."
She couldn't. The word sat on her tongue, simple and clear, and she couldn't force it out.
His mouth descended on hers, and the kiss was nothing like she expected. Not brutal or demanding, but slow and thorough, as if he was learning her, tasting her, claiming her one sensation at a time. His hand tightened in her hair, and his other arm wrapped around her waist, lifting her slightly off balance so that she was pressed against him, against the mirror, with nowhere to go.
She kissed him back. She told herself it was strategic, that she was meeting his challenge, that she was proving she wouldn't be overwhelmed. But her hands curled into his shirt, and her body arched into his, and the soft sound she made against his mouth was surrender, not strategy.
His tongue swept against hers, and she tasted whiskey and heat and something darker. His hand slid from her waist to the curve of her hip, then lower, tracing the line of her thigh through her trousers. She felt the strength in his fingers, the restraint in his touch, and she understood that he was holding back, that there was more beneath the surface, and that more was dangerous.
When he pulled back, they were both breathing hard. His eyes were nearly black, the pupils blown wide, and his mouth was wet from her kiss.
"That," he said, "was not in the contract."
"No," she agreed. Her voice was rougher than she wanted it to be. "It wasn't."
"But it will happen again."
It wasn't a question. She didn't treat it as one.
Sev stepped back, and the air rushed back into the space between them, cold against her heated skin. She could still feel his hands on her, his mouth on hers, the hard press of his body. Her lips tingled. Her thighs trembled. She was furious at herself for wanting more.
"Tomorrow," he said, "we'll begin the wardrobe selection. Tonight, Loretta will show you to your room. Dinner is at eight. I expect you to attend."
He turned and walked out, leaving her alone in the room full of beautiful clothes, her reflection staring back at her from the golden mirror. Her blouse was wrinkled where his hands had gripped it. Her lips were swollen. Her eyes were bright with something she didn't want to name.
Bianca pressed her hand to her chest, feeling the rapid beat of her heart.
This was going to be a very long year.
And she was terrified that she might not survive it with her pride intact.
Terrified, and something else.
Something she refused to name.
She straightened her blouse, smoothed her hair, and walked out of the dressing room with her chin held high.
Whatever came next, she would face it.
She was a Costa.
And Costas did not break.

The Private Fitting
The morning light crawled through the heavy drapes like a thief, and Bianca Costa lay awake in the silk sheets of a bed that wasn't hers. The estate hummed with a quiet menace she still couldn't quite parse, every creak of the old mansion a reminder of the leash she now wore.
A soft knock at the door made her sit up. A maid entered with a tray and a folded note. Bianca's fingers trembled as she opened it.
Fitting room. Late morning. Wear nothing under the robe provided.
No signature needed. The precise handwriting, the command disguised as information. It was already a part of her new vocabulary, this voice that assumed obedience.
She dressed in the robe provided, a heavy silk kimono in deep burgundy that whispered against her skin. Nothing underneath. The instruction felt like a brand.
The fitting room was a converted parlor on the second floor, walls lined with mirrors that caught the light and threw it back in fractured prisms. A rack of garments stood in the center, and beside them, Severino Rinaldi waited.
He wore a charcoal suit, no tie, the top button of his shirt undone. His salt-and-pepper hair was swept back, and his dark eyes tracked her entrance like a hawk watching prey.
"Good morning, Bianca."
"Don Rinaldi."
A flicker of amusement crossed his face. "Sev. We'll be intimate enough for first names soon enough."
Her stomach tightened. "You wanted to see the designs?"
"I want to see you in them." He gestured to the rack. "Start with the red."
The dress was a column of crimson silk, cut on the bias, with a neckline that plunged dangerously. Bianca's fingers found the zipper of her robe, and she paused.
"Here?"
"Here."
She let the robe fall. His gaze traveled over her, unhurried, assessing. She stood in nothing but the dress she hadn't put on yet, and the air between them thickened.
"Turn around."
She obeyed. The zipper of the dress slid up her spine, his knuckles grazing her skin. He was close enough that she could smell him, sandalwood and something darker, something that made her knees weak.
"Face me."
She turned. His eyes were dark, pupils blown. He reached out and adjusted the neckline, his fingers brushing the swell of her breasts.
"Too loose," he murmured. "The next one."
The next was black, backless, a slip of fabric that barely qualified as a dress. His hands settled on her bare shoulders, turning her toward the mirror.
"Look at yourself."
She did. Her reflection stared back, wide-eyed and flushed. Behind her, Sev was a shadow, a tower of control.
"You're beautiful, Bianca. But you know that."
"I know what I see."
"You see a woman who's afraid." His hands slid down her arms, fingers tracing the line of her collarbone. "I see a woman who's about to learn what she needs."
His palms settled on her hips, thumbs pressing into the curve of her waist. She should have pulled away. She should have said something sharp, something that reminded him she was still a Costa, still a woman with pride.
Instead, she leaned back.
The movement was barely an inch, but he felt it. His breath hitched, and his hands tightened.
"That's it," he whispered. "Let yourself feel."
His mouth found her shoulder, lips grazing the tendon that ran to her neck. Bianca's eyes fluttered closed, then snapped open. The mirror caught everything. The way her head tilted. The way his hands moved, one sliding up her ribcage, the other pressing flat against her stomach.
"This dress," he said, his voice rough, "needs adjustment. The hem is wrong."
He knelt.
The sight of him there, powerful and deliberate, made her breath catch. His fingers found the hem of the black dress, and he tugged it higher, baring her thighs.
"Better," he said, and his hands didn't stop.
They traveled upward, pushing the fabric until it pooled at her waist. His thumbs traced the inside of her thighs, and Bianca gripped the edge of the mirror for balance.
"Sev..."
"Shh. I'm fitting the dress."
His palms cupped her hips, then slid lower, fingers finding the heat between her legs. She gasped, a sound that was half protest, half surrender.
"You're wet," he said, and the satisfaction in his voice was a blade. "You've been wet since the moment you walked in."
"That's not..."
"Don't lie to me, Bianca." His thumb found her clit, circling slowly. "I can feel the truth."
She bucked against his hand, her body betraying every word she might have spoken. He rose, pressing her forward until her palms were flat against the mirror, her reflection staring back at her with wild eyes.
"Watch," he commanded.
His hand slid under the bunched fabric, fingers finding her entrance, sliding inside. Bianca cried out, her forehead pressing against the cool glass.
"That's it. Let me hear you."
He moved with a rhythm that was practiced and relentless, his thumb on her clit, his fingers curling inside her. The mirror showed everything. The flush spreading across her chest. The way her mouth fell open. The way his other hand wrapped around her waist, holding her steady.
"Look at yourself," he said, his lips against her ear. "Look at what you are when you stop fighting."
"I'm not... I'm not fighting..."
"You are. But you're losing." His fingers sped up. "And you're going to come. Right here. Right now. Against this mirror."
"No..."
"Yes. You're going to come, and you're going to watch yourself do it."
The pressure built, a coil of heat that wound tighter with every stroke. Bianca's hips moved of their own accord, grinding against his hand, chasing something she hadn't known she needed.
"Sev... please..."
"Please what?"
"Please... I can't..."
"You can. You will." His voice dropped to a whisper. "Come for me, Bianca."
The orgasm hit her like a wave, pulling her under. Her vision blurred, her knees buckled, and only his arm around her waist kept her upright. The mirror reflected her release, the arch of her back, the way her mouth formed a silent O.
When she came back to herself, she was leaning against him, his chest solid against her spine. His hand was still between her legs, gentle now, stroking her through the aftershocks.
"Good girl," he murmured.
The words should have made her furious. Instead, they settled somewhere deep, a warmth that had nothing to do with the heat of her skin.
He withdrew slowly, and she felt the loss like an absence of breath. He turned her to face him, his thumb brushing a strand of hair from her cheek.
"Tomorrow," he said, "we'll finish the fitting."
She nodded, unable to speak. He stepped back, and the space between them felt like a canyon.
"Leave the dress. I'll have it adjusted."
Bianca gathered the robe, wrapping it around herself like armor that had already failed. She walked to the door, her legs unsteady, her mind a storm.
"Bianca."
She turned.
Sev was watching her, his eyes dark, his expression unreadable. "Same time. Don't wear anything under the robe."
The door closed behind her, and she leaned against the hallway wall, her heart hammering against her ribs. She should have felt used. She should have felt degraded.
Instead, she felt alive. Hungry. And terrified of what that hunger meant.
Her fingers touched her lips, still tingling from the ghost of his breath. She had come apart in his hands, and she had watched herself do it. The woman in the mirror had been beautiful. Wanton. Free.
Bianca Costa had spent her whole life building walls. In one morning, Severino Rinaldi had found the door.
And she wasn't sure she wanted to lock it again.
The Charity Gala
Bianca smoothed the silk of her gown, a deep emerald green that clung to her curves like a second skin. Sev had chosen it, of course. He had sent several options to her room that morning, each more stunning than the last, and she had picked this one without hesitation. Not because he commanded it, but because she wanted to see the approval in his eyes.
The grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel glittered with crystal chandeliers and the soft hum of Chicago's elite. Bianca had attended countless galas like this, but never as the consort of a man like Severino Rinaldi. She felt the weight of every stare, every whispered speculation behind jeweled fans and champagne flutes.
Sev's palm rested warm against the small of her back, a constant pressure that anchored her. He wore a tailored black tuxedo, his salt-and-pepper hair swept back, his dark eyes scanning the room with predatory calm. He was a wolf in sheep's clothing, and everyone knew it.
"You're nervous," he said, his voice low against her ear.
"I'm not nervous. I'm calculating."
A ghost of a smile touched his lips. "That's my girl."
The words sent a shiver down her spine. She was still adjusting to the reality of her situation. Days had passed since the contract signing. The private fitting that followed had shattered her carefully constructed walls. She had orgasmed against a mirror while he watched, and now she couldn't look at her reflection without remembering the heat in his eyes.
Tonight, she was on display for a different reason. The charity gala was the annual event for Chicago's philanthropic set, and Sev's presence was a statement. He was legitimizing his empire one handshake at a time, and she was the ornament on his arm.
They moved through the crowd, Sev exchanging pleasantries with politicians and businessmen while Bianca smiled and nodded, her designer's eye cataloging the room. The women watched her with a mixture of envy and disdain. The men watched her with barely concealed hunger, though they were smart enough to look away when Sev's gaze lingered.
Then she saw her.
A woman in a blood-red gown cut to her navel, with platinum blonde hair and a smirk that spoke of old money and older vendettas. She broke away from her group and approached with the confidence of someone who believed she owned every room she entered.
"Severino, darling. I was wondering when you'd grace us with your presence."
Sev's fingers pressed tighter against Bianca's spine. "Camilla."
The woman's eyes slid to Bianca, and her smile sharpened. "And you must be the latest acquisition. I've heard so much about you, Miss Costa. Though I must say, the rumors don't do you justice."
Bianca kept her smile in place. "I'm afraid I don't have the pleasure of knowing your name."
The woman's smile flickered. "Camilla Devereaux. I'm an old friend of Severino's."
"Old," Bianca repeated, letting the word hang in the air. "How lovely that you've maintained the connection."
Camilla's eyes narrowed. She turned to Sev, dismissing Bianca with a wave of her hand. "I must say, Severino, you've chosen a bit of a sharp tongue this time. I preferred the ones who knew how to be seen and not heard."
Sev's voice was ice. "You're speaking about my date, Camilla. I'd advise you to choose your next words carefully."
"Or what? You'll have one of your thugs escort me out?" Camilla laughed, but there was no humor in it. "We both know your father would have been ashamed of how far you've fallen. Parading around with a socialite who's only here because her family couldn't pay their debts."
The words hit like a slap. Bianca felt the blood drain from her face, but she forced herself to hold still. She would not give this woman the satisfaction of a reaction.
Sev stepped forward, his body blocking Bianca from Camilla's view. His voice dropped to a register that made the air vibrate. "You have ten seconds to walk away before I forget you're a woman."
Camilla's smirk faltered. She took a step back, then another. "This isn't over, Severino. We both know how these things end."
She disappeared into the crowd, and the tension around them dissolved like smoke. But the damage was done. Bianca could feel the eyes on her, the whispers multiplying.
Sev turned to her, his jaw tight. "We're leaving."
"No."
He stared at her. "What did you say?"
"I said no." Bianca lifted her chin. "If we leave now, she wins. I won't give her the satisfaction."
Something flickered in his eyes. Respect, maybe. Or hunger. "You have a stubborn streak, Bianca."
"You knew that when you signed the contract."
He studied her for a long moment, then nodded. "Fine. But we're finding a quieter corner."
He guided her through the crowd, his palm remaining warm against her spine. They passed through a set of mahogany doors into a hallway lined with private rooms. Sev chose one, pushing open the door to reveal a small powder room with marble counters and a single gilded mirror.
The moment the door clicked shut, he had her against the wall.
His mouth found hers, fierce and claiming, and she gasped against his lips. His hands roamed her body, gripping her hips, sliding along her waist, dragging the silk up her thighs, as if he was reassuring himself that she was still there.
"She doesn't know anything," he growled against her throat. "She's a bitter woman who can't stand that I moved on."
"Moved on from what?" Bianca's voice was breathless.
His teeth grazed her collarbone. "From her. It was years ago, before I took control. She thought she'd be the don's wife. She was wrong."
Bianca's hands found his shoulders, gripping the expensive wool of his tuxedo. "She's jealous."
"She has no right to be." His mouth trailed down her neck, and she felt the heat building low in her belly. "You're mine, Bianca. Not because of a contract. Because I say so."
The possessiveness in his voice should have frightened her. Instead, it ignited something primal. She arched into him, her fingers tangling in his hair.
"Then prove it."
His eyes darkened. He pulled back just enough to look at her, and what she saw in his gaze made her breath catch. There was hunger there, yes, but also something deeper. A need that went beyond the physical.
He dropped to his knees.
Bianca's heart hammered as his hands found the hem of her gown, pushing it up her thighs. The silk whispered against her skin, bunching at her hips as his mouth found her, hot and insistent, through the thin lace of her underwear. She felt the warmth of his breath, the deliberate pressure of his lips tracing the line of her sex through the delicate fabric.
"Sev..." His name was a prayer on her lips.
He didn't answer with words. He answered with action, hooking his fingers into the lace and pulling it aside. The cool air kissed her flesh for only a moment before his tongue replaced it, tasting her directly. The sensation was electric, a jolt that made her knees buckle. He caught her, one arm locking around her thigh, holding her steady against the wall while his mouth worked with a precision that spoke of experience and intent.
His tongue found her clit and circled it with slow, deliberate strokes. She bit her lip to stifle a moan, but he wouldn't allow it. His free hand slid up her body, fingers wrapping around her throat, not hard enough to choke but enough to remind her who was in control. His thumb pressed against her pulse point, feeling it race beneath her skin.
"I want to hear you," he murmured against her slick flesh. "Let them all hear who you belong to."
The command shattered her restraint. She moaned, loud and unashamed, as his mouth claimed her more fully. His tongue circled her clit with relentless pressure, then dipped lower, pushing inside her. She felt the orgasm building like a wave, rising from the depths of her body. Her hips moved against his face of their own accord, chasing the pleasure he was orchestrating with such devastating skill.
He slid two fingers inside her, curling them upward as his tongue returned to her clit. The dual sensation sent sparks across her vision. She gripped his hair, pulling him closer, needing more of everything he was giving her. His fingers worked her with the same deliberate precision as his mouth, finding the spot that made her gasp and pressing against it with each thrust.
"That's it," he growled against her, the vibration of his voice sending another jolt through her body. "Come for me, Bianca. Let go."
She shattered. The orgasm crashed through her in waves, her inner walls clenching around his fingers, her body trembling against the wall. He didn't stop. He rode her through the climax, his mouth and fingers drawing out every last tremor until she was boneless and gasping. A second wave followed the first, smaller but no less intense, and she cried out again, her voice echoing off the marble walls.
Only then did he stand.
He looked at her, his lips glistening, his eyes dark with satisfaction. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and smiled, a predatory curl of his lips.
"Now everyone knows."
Bianca's legs were shaking. She reached for him, steadying herself against his chest. "You're impossible."
"And you're mine." He kissed her forehead, a gesture so tender it made her heart ache. "Let's go home."
They returned to the gala just long enough to make an appearance. Sev's arm was around her waist, possessive and proud, and the whispers followed them like a wake. But Bianca didn't care. She held her head high, her body still humming with the memory of his mouth.
Camilla watched from across the room, her face a mask of cold fury. Sev met her gaze and nodded once, a silent acknowledgment that the battle was won.
As they stepped into the cool night air, Bianca leaned into him. "That was reckless."
"I don't do reckless." He opened the car door for her, his hand brushing her lower back. "I do calculated."
"Calculated," she repeated, sliding into the leather seat. "Is that what you call making a woman scream in a bathroom?"
He closed the door and leaned down to the window, his face inches from hers. "I call it making sure everyone knows you're taken. Including you."
The car pulled away, and Bianca watched the lights of the Drake disappear. She should have felt used. She should have felt like a possession, an object to be claimed and displayed.
Instead, she felt wanted.
And that was the most dangerous feeling of all.
The Breaking Point
The call came before dawn, dragging Bianca from the first decent sleep she'd had in days. Her phone buzzed against the nightstand like an angry insect, and she fumbled for it blind, still half-drowning in dreams of Sev's hands and the gala's glittering aftermath.
"Bianca." Her mother's voice cracked. "It's Marco. He borrowed money. Bad people. They're going to kill him."
The words hit like ice water. Bianca sat up, the silk sheet pooling around her waist, her heart slamming against her ribs. "What do you mean he borrowed money? From who?"
"I don't know the names. Some men came to the house. They said Marco owes them sixty thousand. They said if he doesn't pay by Friday, they'll take him apart piece by piece." Her mother's breath hitched. "Bianca, please. I know what you've already done for us. I know the deal you made. But Marco is your brother. He's just a boy who made a stupid mistake."
Bianca closed her eyes. Marco was twenty-four, not a boy. He was a gambling addict with a taste for fast money and faster trouble. The same trouble that had put their family in Sev's debt in the first place. And now he'd done it again.
"I'll handle it," she said, though she had no idea how. "Don't answer the door. Don't talk to anyone. I'll call you back."
She ended the call and stared at the ceiling. The morning light filtered through the heavy drapes of Sev's penthouse, painting the room in shades of gray and gold. She'd been here four days. Four days of private fittings and public appearances, of Sev's hands on her skin and his voice in her ear. Four days of pretending she could survive this arrangement with her dignity intact.
Now Marco had shattered that illusion.
She found Sev in his home office, a vast corner room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Chicago skyline. He sat behind a mahogany desk, a cup of black coffee in one hand, his phone pressed to his ear. He wore a charcoal dress shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, exposing the corded muscle of his forearms and the edge of a scar that disappeared into his cuff.
He looked up when she entered, his dark eyes sharpening with immediate awareness. He said something low into the phone, then ended the call without farewell.
"You're up early." His voice held no warmth, only observation.
Bianca crossed her arms over her chest, suddenly aware she was wearing only a thin silk robe. "We need to talk."
"About?"
"My brother. Marco. He's gotten himself into trouble." She forced the words out. "He borrowed money from someone. Sixty thousand. They're threatening to kill him."
Sev's expression didn't change. He set down his coffee and leaned back in his chair, studying her with that unnerving stillness she was learning to dread and crave in equal measure. "Who does he owe?"
"I don't know. My mother didn't have names."
"Then find out." He picked up his phone again, scrolling through something. "I'll have Nico make some calls."
"That's it?" Bianca's voice rose. "You're just going to help him?"
Sev's gaze lifted to hers, cold and flat. "I'm going to find out who's making claims on your family. Your brother's debts are my business now. You're mine. That means your family is mine. And I don't share what's mine."
The possessiveness in his voice should have infuriated her. Instead, it sent a strange shiver down her spine, equal parts fear and something darker, something hungry.
"He's an idiot," Bianca said, her voice trembling despite her best efforts. "He's always been an idiot. He ruined us once, and now he's doing it again. I can't keep cleaning up his messes."
"Then stop." Sev stood, rounding the desk with slow, deliberate steps. "Stop protecting him. Stop carrying the weight of every mistake your family makes. You're not their savior, Bianca. You're not their sacrifice. You're mine."
He stopped inches from her, close enough that she could smell the coffee on his breath, the sandalwood of his cologne. "I'll handle Marco. But there's a price."
Bianca's throat tightened. "What price?"
"You stop fighting me." His hand came up, fingers brushing the curve of her jaw. "Every time I touch you, you tense. Every time I take control, you resist. I feel it in your body, that constant war you're waging. I want it to stop."
"I'm not a soldier you can disarm," she whispered.
"No." His thumb traced her lower lip. "You're a woman who needs to learn that surrender isn't defeat."
He kissed her then, hard and demanding, his hand fisting in her hair. She gasped against his mouth, and he used the opening to deepen the kiss, his tongue sweeping inside, claiming her. Her hands came up to push against his chest, but the resistance died before it could form. Her fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt instead, holding on as the world tilted.
He broke the kiss and stepped back, his eyes dark with intent. "Come with me."
He led her through the penthouse to the master bedroom, a space she'd only seen in passing. The bed was massive, platform-style with dark linens and too many pillows. Floor-to-ceiling windows faced the lake, the morning light painting everything in shades of blue and gold.
Sev stopped beside the bed and turned to face her. "Take off the robe."
Bianca's breath caught. She'd been naked in front of him before, during the fitting, but that had been different. That had been performance, a game of control and submission with clear boundaries. This was real. This was the first time they'd be together without an audience, without a reason beyond the raw pull between them.
"Sev."
"Take it off." His voice was low, rough. "Or I'll take it off for you, and I won't be gentle."
Her hands moved before her mind could stop them, untying the sash, letting the silk fall from her shoulders. The robe pooled at her feet, leaving her naked in the golden light. She stood still, her arms at her sides, her heart pounding so hard she could feel it in her throat.
Sev's gaze traveled over her, slow and thorough, like he was memorizing every curve. "Get on the bed. On your hands and knees."
The command sent heat flooding through her. She should refuse. She should assert some of the pride she'd been clinging to. But the memory of her mother's voice, the fear in it, the weight of Marco's stupidity pressing down on her shoulders, it all dissolved under the intensity of Sev's stare.
She climbed onto the bed, the sheets cool against her knees and palms. She faced the headboard, her spine curved, her body offered up like an altar. She heard Sev move behind her, the whisper of fabric as he removed his shirt, the clink of his belt buckle.
His hands found her hips, warm and calloused. "You're trembling."
"I'm scared." The admission slipped out before she could catch it.
"I know." His voice softened, just barely. "But I've got you. Do you trust me?"
She wanted to say no. She wanted to say she didn't trust anyone, especially not a man who owned her by contract. But the word that came out was, "Yes."
He pressed against her then, the heat of his body searing her back. His mouth found her shoulder, teeth grazing the sensitive skin. "Good girl."
His hand slid between her legs, fingers finding her slick and ready. She gasped, her hips bucking into his touch. He made a sound of approval, low and rough, as he circled her clit with practiced precision.
"You're wet for me," he said, his voice a dark murmur against her ear. "You've been wet for me since the moment you walked into my house, haven't you?"
She couldn't answer. Her mind was white static, every nerve ending focused on the movement of his fingers.
"Answer me."
"Yes." The word came out broken, desperate.
He withdrew his hand, and she whimpered at the loss. Then she felt him, the thick head of his cock pressing against her entrance, and her breath stopped.
"Look at me."
She twisted her neck, meeting his eyes over her shoulder. His face was taut with restraint, a muscle jumping in his jaw. He held her gaze as he pushed inside, slow and relentless, inch by inch.
Bianca cried out, her fingers clawing at the sheets. He was so much bigger than she'd expected, stretching her, filling her in a way that bordered on pain but tipped into overwhelming pleasure. He paused when he was fully seated, his breath hot against her back, his body trembling with the effort of staying still.
"Fuck," he breathed. "You feel like heaven."
He began to move, long deep strokes that rocked her forward with each thrust. His hand found her hip, gripping hard enough to bruise, while the other snaked around to press against her lower belly, angling her hips to take him deeper.
"This is what you needed," he said, his voice ragged. "Someone to take the weight off your shoulders. Someone to make you feel instead of think."
She couldn't argue. Every thought, every fear about Marco and the debt and her family's destruction, it all dissolved under the relentless rhythm of his body against hers. She was nothing but sensation, nothing but the burn and stretch and the building pressure coiling in her core.
"Come for me," Sev commanded, his hand sliding between her legs to find her clit. "Come for me now."
She shattered at his words, her orgasm ripping through her with a force that left her breathless. She cried out, her body clenching around him, and he followed with a guttural groan, his hips stuttering as he spilled inside her.
For a long moment, neither of them moved. They stayed connected, his body pressed against hers, their breathing ragged and synchronized. Then he pulled out slowly, carefully, and she collapsed onto the bed, her limbs trembling, her mind blank.
Sev lay down beside her, gathering her against his chest. His hand stroked her hair, a gesture so tender it made her eyes sting.
"I'll handle Marco," he said quietly. "You don't have to carry this alone anymore."
Bianca closed her eyes, tears slipping down her cheeks. She'd spent so long being strong, being the one who fixed everything, being the sacrifice. For the first time in years, she let someone else hold the weight.
And it terrified her how much she wanted to let him keep it.
"Don't let me go," she whispered, the words muffled against his chest.
Sev's arms tightened around her. "Never."
The Design Collaboration
The morning light streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Sev's penthouse study, catching the dust motes that drifted through the air like tiny golden coins. Bianca stood before the massive oak desk, her tablet clutched to her chest, the leather-bound portfolio she'd prepared feeling heavier than it should.
Sev leaned back in his chair, one hand resting on the polished surface, the other holding a pen he tapped absently against his palm. He hadn't spoken in what felt like an eternity. She found herself counting the seconds, then forced herself to stop.
"You're serious about this," he said finally, his voice flat but with an edge of something she couldn't quite name. Curiosity, maybe. Or surprise.
"I'm always serious about design." She stepped forward, setting the tablet on his desk and turning it toward him. "The Rinaldi Hotel chain has potential, but the current aesthetic is dated. The lobby feels like a tomb. The suites are beige boxes. You're losing business to the new boutique hotels on the Gold Coast."
His eyes flicked over the mood boards she'd assembled, the fabric swatches, the renderings she'd stayed up until the early hours perfecting. "You've done this before."
"I've done this for half the luxury properties in Milan." She heard the pride in her own voice and didn't try to soften it. "I know what I'm doing, Sev. This isn't just about looking pretty on your arm. I can actually help you."
He set the pen down, the click of it against the wood loud in the silence. "You want to work for me."
"I want to work with you." She held his gaze. "There's a difference."
The corner of his mouth twitched. It wasn't quite a smile, but it was closer than she'd seen before. "All right, Bianca. Show me what you've got."
She spent the next hour walking him through her vision. The Rinaldi properties needed warmth without sacrificing sophistication, Italianate elegance without veering into cliché. She talked about lighting and texture, about the way a guest should feel when they stepped through the doors. Like they'd arrived somewhere important. Somewhere that expected greatness of them.
Sev asked questions. Sharp ones. He knew more about architecture than she'd expected, more about materials and flow. He pushed back on her color palette for the flagship property, challenged her choice of marble for the lobby, and when she defended her decisions with a passion that surprised even her, he didn't dismiss her. He listened.
"The Carrara is too cold," he said, tapping the image on the screen. "I want something that feels like money but doesn't make people feel poor."
"Calacatta Viola," she said without hesitation. "It's warmer. The veining has purple undertones. It's still marble, still expensive, but it doesn't scream. It whispers."
He was quiet for a long moment. Then he nodded. "Send me the samples."
Something warm spread through her chest. She'd won. Not through manipulation or seduction, but through competence. Through knowing her craft better than anyone else in the room.
"I'll have Loretta coordinate with your procurement team," she said, trying to keep the excitement from her voice. "If we move fast on the flagship, we can have the redesign complete before the holiday season."
"You'll coordinate with my team directly." He stood, rounding the desk until he stood beside her, close enough that she could smell his cologne, the clean sharp scent of bergamot and cedar. "I want your eyes on every decision. No middlemen."
She looked up at him, and for a moment, the professional distance between them dissolved. This was something new. Something that had nothing to do with debt or contracts or the arrangement that had brought her here.
"Why?" she asked. "Why trust me with this?"
His hand came up, fingers brushing a strand of hair from her face. The touch was gentle, almost tender, and it made her breath catch. "Because you're not just a pretty face, Bianca. I've been waiting to see what you could do when you weren't just surviving."
The words hit her harder than she expected. He'd been watching her. Not just her body or her compliance, but her. The real her.
"I'm not just surviving anymore," she said softly.
"I know." His fingers trailed down her cheek, along her jaw, coming to rest at the curve of her neck. "I can see it."
The kiss that followed was different from the others. Slower. Exploratory. His mouth moved against hers with a patience that felt almost reverent, and she found herself leaning into him, her hands coming up to grip the lapels of his jacket.
When he pulled back, his eyes were dark, but there was a lightness in them she hadn't seen before. "You're going to be dangerous for me, aren't you?"
"That's the idea." She smiled, and for the first time in weeks, it felt natural. "Now, about the fabric for the guest suites..."
He laughed. Actually laughed, a low rough sound that made her stomach flip. "Later. Right now, I want to see what else you've been hiding."
His hand slid down her arm, catching her wrist, and he led her out of the study and down the hall to the master bedroom. But instead of the commanding intensity she'd come to expect, he stopped at the doorway and turned to face her.
"Tonight, you're in charge."
She blinked. "What?"
"You heard me." He released her wrist, stepping back and spreading his arms. "Tell me what you want. I'll follow."
The offer sent a thrill through her, sharp and unexpected. For weeks, she'd been responding to his control, surrendering to his commands. The idea of flipping that dynamic, even for a night, made her pulse race.
"Anything?" she asked, her voice coming out lower than she intended.
"Within reason." The corner of his mouth lifted. "I'm not letting you handcuff me to the bedposts. Not yet."
She laughed, the sound surprising her. "Fine. Then undress me."
He raised an eyebrow but didn't argue. His fingers found the buttons of her blouse, working them open one by one with a deliberation that made her skin prickle with anticipation. When the fabric fell away, he pushed the silk from her shoulders, letting it pool at her feet.
"Now the skirt," she said, her voice steadier than she felt.
He knelt. Actually knelt, lowering himself to the floor in front of her, his hands sliding up her thighs to find the zipper. The sight of him there, on his knees, sent a rush of power through her that was almost intoxicating.
The skirt fell. He looked up at her, his eyes tracing the lines of her body, the lace of her bra, the curve of her hips. "What now?"
"Now you stand up and let me undress you."
He rose, and she reached for his tie, pulling it loose with a practiced motion. His jacket followed, then his shirt, buttons scattering as she grew impatient with them. When his chest was bare, she let her hands roam over the scars that mapped his skin, tracing each one with her fingertips.
"Tell me about this one," she said, touching a long pale line that ran across his ribs.
"Knife fight. Ten years ago. I won."
"And this?" Her fingers found a circular scar near his shoulder.
"Bullet. Nine years ago. I won that one too."
She looked up at him, her hand pressed flat against his heart. "You're still winning."
His jaw tightened, but his eyes were soft. "So are you."
She pushed him back onto the bed, and he went willingly, landing on his back with a grunt of surprise. She climbed over him, straddling his hips, her hands pressing down on his chest.
"My turn," she said.
What followed was a slow, deliberate exploration. She kissed her way down his body, learning the geography of his skin, the places that made him inhale sharply, the spots that drew low groans from his throat. She took her time, savoring every reaction, building the tension until he was gripping the sheets beneath him.
When she finally took him in her mouth, his hips bucked, a curse escaping his lips. She worked him with a rhythm that was entirely her own, speeding up when his breathing grew ragged, slowing when he got too close, pushing him to the edge and pulling him back.
"Bianca." His voice was strained, a warning and a plea wrapped together.
She lifted her head, meeting his gaze. "Not yet."
She rose up, positioning herself over him, and sank down in one slow, deliberate motion. The sound he made, a rough half-groan half-whimper, was worth every second of waiting.
She rode him at her own pace, taking what she wanted, controlling the angle and the depth and the rhythm. His hands found her hips, but he didn't try to guide her. He let her set the pace, let her chase her pleasure, and the surrender in that gesture made her heart ache.
When she came, it was with a cry that echoed through the room, her body clenching around him as wave after wave of sensation rolled through her. He followed seconds later, his hands tightening on her hips as he spilled into her, his breath coming in harsh gasps.
She collapsed against his chest, her heart pounding against his, and for a long moment, neither of them spoke. His hand came up to stroke her hair, the motion gentle, almost absent-minded.
"That was..." he started.
"Different," she finished.
"Yeah." He pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "Good different."
She smiled against his skin. "The hotel redesign is going to be amazing."
He laughed again, that low rough sound she was beginning to crave. "You're thinking about work right now?"
"I'm always thinking about work. It's what I do." She lifted her head, meeting his eyes. "It's who I am."
His expression softened. "I know. I'm starting to see that."
She settled back against him, her cheek resting over his heart, and let herself enjoy the warmth of his arms around her. The contract still hung over them, the debt still unpaid, the arrangement still in place. But for the first time, it didn't feel like a cage.
It felt like the beginning of something she hadn't expected to find.
And that, more than anything, terrified her.
The Safehouse Night
The studio lights hummed overhead as Bianca pinned the final seam on the evening gown. The hours had slipped past midnight, but sleep refused to claim her. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Sev's face from that morning, the way his hand had lingered on her hip before he left for a meeting he wouldn't discuss.
She reached for her scissors and froze.
The door to the loading bay creaked open. Heavy footsteps echoed across the concrete floor. Not Loretta. Not any of the staff who had gone home long ago.
Bianca's hand moved to her phone, fingers finding the speed dial Sev had programmed without asking. She pressed it as she slipped behind the rack of finished garments, heart slamming against her ribs.
"Bianca." A voice she didn't recognize. Low and rough. "We know you're here."
She pressed herself deeper into the shadows, phone pressed to her ear. The line clicked. Sev's voice, sharp and immediate. "Where are you?"
"Studio," she whispered. "Men inside. They're looking for me."
"Don't move. Don't make a sound." The line went dead.
Footsteps came closer. Bianca held her breath, fingers gripping the metal rack so hard her knuckles ached. A hand swept past the garments, inches from her face. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the fabric to be torn aside.
Gunfire erupted from the front of the studio. Three shots, fast and precise. The man near her cursed and ran toward the sound. More shots. A crash. Then silence.
Bianca's legs gave out. She slid to the floor, phone still clutched in her hand, body shaking so violently she couldn't stand.
The door to the loading bay burst open again. Heavy footsteps, but different this time. Familiar. "Bianca."
Sev's voice. She crawled out from behind the rack, and he was there, pulling her to her feet, hands running over her arms, her face, checking for wounds. His eyes were wild, a look she had never seen on him before.
"Are you hit?" His voice was rough, urgent.
She shook her head, unable to speak.
He pulled her against his chest, one hand fisting in her hair, the other wrapped around her back so tight she could barely breathe. "I've got you," he muttered against her temple. "I've got you."
Nico appeared in the doorway, gun still drawn. "Two down. The third ran. We need to move."
Sev didn't let go of her. He guided her toward the door, body angled to shield hers, hand never leaving her skin. Outside, a black SUV idled at the curb. He helped her into the back seat, climbed in beside her, and pulled her onto his lap.
"Drive," he told Nico.
The city lights blurred past as they sped through the streets. Bianca pressed her face into Sev's chest, breathing in the scent of gunpowder and his cologne, feeling the steady thrum of his heartbeat beneath her cheek. His hand stroked her hair, slow and deliberate, calming.
"Where are we going?" she managed.
"Safehouse. You'll be protected there."
She should have been terrified. She was terrified. But the solid warmth of his body, the way his arms held her like she was something precious, made the fear recede into a dull ache.
The safehouse was a modest brick house at the end of a gravel road, surrounded by trees. No neighbors. No streetlights. Nico pulled into the garage, and the door closed behind them before the engine died.
Sev carried her inside. The house was small but clean, furnished with a worn leather couch and a kitchen table. He set her down on the couch, then crouched in front of her, tilting her chin up to meet his eyes.
"I'm sorry," he said. "This is my fault. They wanted to hurt me through you."
She shook her head. "I'm not hurt. You came."
"I'll always come." His voice cracked on the last word. He looked away, jaw tight. "When I got your call, I thought..." He couldn't finish.
Bianca reached for him, cupping his face in her hands. The stubble scraped her palms. She saw the fear in his eyes, the raw terror he was trying to hide behind his mask of control. And something in her broke open.
She kissed him.
Not a gentle kiss, not a testing kiss. A desperate, hungry kiss that said I'm alive, you're alive, we're here. He responded instantly, pulling her against him, his mouth claiming hers with a roughness that bordered on painful.
"Bianca." He breathed her name like a prayer. "I need you. Right now."
"Yes." She didn't hesitate. Didn't think about contracts or debts or what this meant. She just knew she needed to feel him, to be grounded by his weight, to be reminded that she was real and safe and his.
He lifted her and carried her to the bedroom, laying her down on the thin mattress. The room was sparse, just a bed and a dresser, but she didn't care. She pulled at his jacket, his shirt, needing skin against skin.
Sev let her undress him, watching her with dark, heavy eyes. When she tugged at his belt, he stopped her, hands closing over hers.
"Slow," he said, voice rough. "We go slow tonight."
She shook her head. "I can't. I need..." She didn't have words for the urgency clawing at her chest.
"I know." He kissed her forehead, her eyelids, the corner of her mouth. "But I need to take care of you. Let me."
The gentleness in his voice undid her. She nodded, and he eased her back onto the mattress, undressing her with careful hands, pressing kisses to each inch of skin he revealed. When she lay bare before him, he looked at her like she was something sacred.
"I thought I'd lost you," he said. "Before I even had you."
"You have me." She reached for him, pulling him down. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere."
He entered her slowly, so slowly she felt every inch of him stretching her, filling her. His forehead pressed to hers, breath ragged, eyes closed. "Bianca."
She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper. "Move," she whispered. "Please."
He did, but not with the controlled dominance of before. This was different. Desperate. Each thrust was a declaration, a prayer, a promise. She clung to him, nails digging into his shoulders, matching his rhythm with her hips.
"You're safe," he murmured against her throat. "You're mine. No one will touch you."
She came with a sob, the release shattering through her like a wave breaking against rocks. He followed moments later, burying his face in her neck as he spilled inside her, his body shuddering with the force of it.
They lay tangled together, breathing harsh and uneven. Sev's hand traced lazy patterns on her hip, and she pressed closer, not ready to let go.
"I was scared," she admitted, voice small. "When they came in, I thought I was going to die."
His arm tightened around her. "I won't let that happen. Ever."
"I know." She tilted her head to look at him. "I trust you."
Something flickered in his eyes. Surprise, maybe. Or hope. "You shouldn't. I'm not a good man."
"You're good to me."
He was quiet for a long moment. Then he kissed her, soft and slow, like they had all the time in the world. "Stay with me," he said against her lips. "Not just for the year. Stay."
Her heart stuttered. "Sev..."
"I know it's early. I know this started as a contract. But I don't want to lose you. I don't want to pretend this is temporary."
She cupped his face, thumb tracing the line of his jaw. "I'm not going anywhere."
He closed his eyes, and she saw the tension leave his shoulders. He pulled her closer, tucking her head under his chin, wrapping himself around her like a shield.
"Sleep," he said. "I'll watch."
And she did, safe in his arms, the sound of his heartbeat lulling her into a dreamless rest.
The Soft Reveal
The morning light filtered through the heavy curtains of Sev's bedroom, casting pale gold stripes across the rumpled sheets. Bianca lay still, her body curled against his side, listening to the steady rhythm of his breathing. Three days had passed since the safehouse. Days of quiet mornings and whispered confessions in the dark. She had spent them learning the map of his body with her fingertips, each scar a landmark she committed to memory.
She traced a line down his chest, following the path of a scar that cut diagonally from his collarbone to his ribs. He didn't stir, but she felt his arm tighten around her waist. He was awake. He had been awake for a while, she realized. Watching her.
"You're counting them," he said, his voice rough with sleep.
"I'm memorizing them." She pressed her palm flat against the scar tissue. It was smoother than the surrounding skin, raised and pale against his olive complexion. "How did you get this one?"
He was quiet for a long moment. Bianca felt the tension ripple through his muscles, that familiar coiling of defense. She had asked before, in the early days of the contract. He had deflected. Changed the subject. Left the room. But something had shifted in the safehouse. The walls between them had cracked, and she could see the man behind the Don.
"Chicago," he said finally. "I was twenty-two. Your age, almost. I thought I was invincible."
Bianca lifted her head to look at him. His eyes were fixed on the ceiling, his jaw tight. "What happened?"
"I made a deal with a man who thought he could cheat me. I found out. He found out I found out. We met in a warehouse on the South Side." He paused, his hand coming up to cover hers where it rested on his chest. "He had a knife. I had a gun. He was faster than I expected."
She felt the scar beneath her palm, imagining the blade slicing through young skin, through muscle, through the arrogance of a boy who hadn't yet learned fear. "You survived."
"I learned." He turned his head to look at her, his dark eyes unreadable. "I learned that trusting the wrong person gets you killed. Mercy is a weakness. The only person I could rely on was myself."
"And now?"
The question hung between them. He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he took her hand and guided it to another scar, this one on his side, just above his hip. "Philadelphia. I was thirty. A rival crew thought they could move into my territory. I made an example of their leader. His brother returned the favor."
Bianca traced the jagged line, feeling the way the tissue dipped slightly, as if the wound had been deep. "You were stabbed."
"I was shot. The bullet passed through. Missed my kidney by half an inch."
She moved her hand to his shoulder, where a circular scar puckered the skin. "And this?"
"A bullet that didn't miss. I was thirty-five. The same year I took over the outfit entirely."
Bianca sat up slowly, the sheet pooling around her waist. She looked at him, really looked, seeing the network of scars that mapped his rise to power. They told a story of violence and survival, of a man who had clawed his way to the top through blood and grit. She had seen them before, in the heat of passion, but she had never truly seen them. Not like this.
"Sev." Her voice was soft, hesitant. "Why are you telling me this?"
He reached up, his hand cupping her cheek. His thumb traced the line of her jaw, gentle and deliberate. "Because you asked. Because you didn't flinch. I'm tired of hiding from you."
Her breath caught. In the days since the safehouse, they had existed in a strange limbo. The contract still hung over them, but it felt like a ghost, a shadow of the arrangement that had brought them together. They had talked in the dark, sharing pieces of themselves. But this was different. This was a door opening.
"I'm lonely," she said, the words escaping before she could stop them. She felt the heat rise to her cheeks, but she didn't look away. "I've been lonely for so long. My family, they love me, but they don't see me. They see the designer, the socialite, the daughter who can fix their problems. They don't see me."
Sev's hand slid to the back of her neck, pulling her down until her forehead rested against his. "I see you."
"I know." Her voice cracked. "That's what scares me."
He kissed her, slow and soft, a brush of lips that was more question than statement. She answered by pressing closer, her hands framing his face, her fingers threading through his salt-and-pepper hair. The kiss deepened, but it didn't rush. It was a conversation, a negotiation of trust.
Bianca pulled back, her breath warm against his lips. "Show me."
"Show you what?"
"Everything." She traced a line down his chest, following the scar from his collarbone. "I want to know all of you. The parts you hide. The parts you protect."
He studied her for a long moment, his dark eyes searching hers. Then he nodded, a slow surrender that she felt in the loosening of his muscles, the softening of his jaw. He took her hand and guided it lower, to a scar on his thigh, hidden beneath the sheet.
"This one is from when I was seventeen. I was running with a crew, trying to prove myself. I got caught stealing a car. The owner had a baseball bat."
Bianca's fingers traced the raised line, feeling the history beneath her touch. "You were a thief."
"I was a kid who didn't have any other options."
She leaned down and pressed her lips to the scar, a soft kiss that made him go still. Then she moved to the next scar, the one on his side, and kissed that too. She worked her way across his body, kissing each mark, each memory, each piece of the man he had become.
When she reached his chest, he pulled her up, his hands cupping her face. "Bianca."
"I'm here." She straddled his hips, the sheet slipping away. The morning light painted her skin gold, and she saw the hunger in his eyes, but it was tempered by something else. Something softer. Something vulnerable.
He sat up, his arms wrapping around her, pulling her close. They were chest to chest, heart to heart, the heat of their bodies mingling. She could feel him against her thigh, hard and ready, but he didn't rush. He held her, his hand stroking her back, his lips pressing kisses to her shoulder.
"I didn't think I could feel this," he murmured against her skin. "I didn't think I'd want to."
"Feel what?"
"Safe."
The word hit her like a wave, stealing her breath. This man, this powerful, dangerous man, felt safe with her. She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him as tightly as he held her. "You're safe with me."
He pulled back, his eyes meeting hers. There was no mask, no wall, no Don. Just Sev. Just the man who had shown her his scars and trusted her to touch them.
He kissed her again, deeper this time, his tongue sliding against hers in a slow, languid dance. She rocked against him, feeling the friction of his arousal against her core, the hard length of him pressing against her slick heat. But he didn't push. He didn't take. He gave.
His hands moved down her back, cupping her ass, guiding her movements. She arched into him, a soft moan escaping her lips. He swallowed the sound, his kiss growing more insistent, but still slow. Still deliberate. His fingers dug into her flesh, pulling her closer, grinding her against him until she could feel every inch of him, hot and rigid between her thighs.
"Sev," she breathed, her head falling back. "Please."
He laid her back on the bed, his body covering hers. The weight of him was grounding, a reminder that she was here, in this moment, with this man. He kissed a path down her throat, his teeth grazing the sensitive skin, across her collarbone, between her breasts. Each touch was reverent, worshipful, as if he were memorizing her the way she had memorized his scars.
When his mouth found her nipple, she gasped, her hands tangling in his hair. He teased her with his tongue, circling the tight peak, then sucking it into his mouth, pulling until she was arching off the bed. The sensation shot straight to her core, a hot pulse of need that made her thighs tremble. Then he moved to the other side, giving it the same attention, the same devotion, his hand palming the breast his mouth had abandoned, rolling the wet nipple between his fingers.
"Sev." His name was a prayer on her lips.
He looked up at her, his eyes dark with desire. "I've got you."
He kissed his way down her stomach, his hands spreading her thighs. She was already wet, already ready, but he didn't hurry. He pressed a kiss to the inside of her thigh, then the other, his breath warm against her skin. She trembled, anticipation building in her core, her hips lifting toward him of their own accord. He smiled against her skin, a low, satisfied sound rumbling in his chest.
"Patience," he murmured, his lips brushing the crease of her thigh.
"I don't want patience. I want you."
He looked up at her, his eyes glinting. "You have me."
When his mouth finally found her, she cried out, her hips bucking against him. He licked her slowly, deliberately, his tongue exploring her folds with an intimacy that made her feel exposed and cherished all at once. He tasted her, his tongue dipping inside her, then dragging upward to find the swollen bud of her clit. He circled it, a gentle pressure that sent sparks through her body, before wrapping his lips around it and sucking.
"Look at me," he said, his voice rough.
She forced her eyes open, looking down at him. He was watching her, his gaze locked on hers, as he took her into his mouth again. The sight of him, this powerful man, on his knees for her, his tongue working her with a patience that bordered on cruelty, was almost too much. She felt the orgasm building, a slow, deep wave that threatened to consume her.
His hands slid beneath her, gripping her hips, tilting her up to meet his mouth. He devoured her, his tongue relentless, alternating between broad strokes and the focused attention that made her vision blur. She could feel herself clenching around nothing, empty and aching, wanting him inside her, but not wanting this to end.
"Don't stop," she gasped, her fingers tightening in his hair. "Don't stop, don't stop."
He groaned against her, the vibration of it traveling through her core, and doubled his efforts. His tongue flicked rapidly against her clit, then he sucked again, harder this time, pulling her over the edge. She shattered, her body convulsing, her thighs clamping around his head as the orgasm tore through her. He stayed with her, his tongue gentle now, his hands holding her trembling thighs apart, until the last tremor faded and she lay boneless against the sheets.
He crawled up her body, his lips finding hers. She tasted herself on him, and it was intimate, raw, real. She could feel him against her thigh, hard and thick, the wet tip of him sliding against her skin. He positioned himself at her entrance, the broad head of his cock pressing against her slick opening. But he didn't push inside. He waited, his forehead against hers, his breath ragged.
"I want you," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "But I need you to know that this isn't the contract. This isn't the debt. This is me. This is us."
Bianca's eyes filled with tears. She blinked them away, her hand coming up to cup his face. "I know."
He entered her slowly, inch by inch, giving her time to adjust. She felt the stretch, the fullness, the way he filled her completely, her body opening around him like he was made to fit inside her. He was thick, and she could feel every ridge, every vein, as he pressed deeper. He paused when he was fully inside, his body still, his eyes closed. He was breathing hard, his muscles trembling with the effort of control.
"Look at me," she said, echoing his words.
He opened his eyes. They were dark, vulnerable, full of something she hadn't seen before. Love. It was love, raw and unguarded, staring back at her.
He began to move, slow and deep, each thrust a declaration. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, her nails digging into his shoulders. The rhythm was hypnotic, a dance of give and take, of trust and surrender. She could feel him withdrawing almost completely before sliding back in, the friction of him against her walls sending waves of pleasure radiating through her body.
"You feel so good," she whispered, her voice breaking. "You feel so good inside me."
He groaned, his pace quickening. But he didn't lose control. He stayed with her, his eyes locked on hers, his movements deliberate. She felt the second orgasm building, slower than the first, deeper. It coiled in her belly, spreading through her limbs, until she was trembling with it. Her hips rose to meet his, taking him deeper, and she watched his face contort with the effort of holding back.
"Let go," she said. "I want to feel you let go."
He shuddered, his jaw clenching. "Not yet. Not without you."
He reached between them, his fingers finding her clit, circling it in time with his thrusts. The dual sensation was overwhelming, the fullness of him inside her and the precise pressure of his fingers against her most sensitive place. She could feel herself tightening around him, her body gripping his cock, pulling him deeper.
"Come for me," he said, his voice breaking. "Come for me, Bianca."
She shattered, her body clenching around him in rhythmic waves, her cries muffled against his shoulder. He followed moments later, his hips driving into her with a final, deep thrust, his release hot and thick inside her. He buried his face in her neck, his body shaking, his breath hot against her skin. She could feel him pulsing within her, the warmth of him spreading through her core, and she held him tighter, wanting to keep him there, wanting to keep this moment.
They lay there, tangled together, the morning light growing brighter around them. Bianca traced idle patterns on his back, feeling the rise and fall of his breathing. He was still inside her, softening, but neither of them moved to separate. She could feel his release leaking from where they were joined, a warm, wet evidence of what they had shared.
"I've never done that before," he said, his voice muffled against her skin.
"Done what?"
"Let someone see me. All of me." He lifted his head, his eyes meeting hers. "I've never wanted to."
She smiled, a soft, genuine smile that reached her eyes. "I've never wanted to be seen. Not like this. Not by anyone."
He kissed her, a gentle brush of lips. "Then we're even."
She laughed, the sound light and free. "Even? Don Rinaldi, I don't think we'll ever be even. I think we'll always be finding new ways to owe each other."
He smiled, a rare, unguarded smile that transformed his face. "I think I'm okay with that."
They lay in silence for a while, the quiet intimacy of the moment wrapping around them like a blanket. Bianca felt the weight of the contract lift, just a little. It was still there, a shadow in the corner of the room. But it was smaller now. Less important.
"What happens now?" she asked, her voice soft.
Sev's hand found hers, his fingers intertwining with hers. "Now we figure out what comes next. Together."
She turned her head to look at him. "Together."
"Together." He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I don't know what that looks like. I don't know how to be anything other than what I am. But I know I want you in it. Whatever it is."
Bianca closed her eyes, letting the words sink in. For the first time since she had signed that contract, she felt something other than fear. She felt hope. She felt trust. She felt the beginning of something that could be more than a transaction.
She curled against him, her head on his chest, her ear over his heart. The steady rhythm was a lullaby, a promise. She let herself drift, safe in the arms of a man who had shown her his scars and trusted her to hold them.
And in that moment, she knew that the debt was no longer the thing that bound them. It was something else entirely, something deeper than obligation, something that neither of them had expected to find.
It was them.
The Final Collection
The morning of the show brought a different kind of fear than Bianca had ever known. Not the cold dread of her father's debts or the anxious flutter of facing Sev's inspection. This was something else entirely. This was the terror of creation, of putting pieces of herself on display for the world to judge.
She stood in the backstage area of the Drake Hotel's grand ballroom, surrounded by racks of garments that had consumed her nights for the past three months. Each piece told a story. Each stitch held a secret. And tonight, she would use them all as weapons against the very people who had tried to break her.
"Bianca, we need final approval on the lighting sequence." Loretta's voice cut through her reverie, practical and grounding as always.
"Tell them to trust the plan. The lights shift at the forty-five second mark for each segment. No earlier."
"You're sure about this collection?"
Bianca touched the nearest garment, a deep crimson gown with a slit that ran dangerously high. "I've never been more sure of anything."
The collection was called "Resurrection." It was a deliberate choice, a message to everyone who thought they had buried her. The first segment featured blacks and deep grays, structured pieces that evoked armor. Mourning clothes for a woman who had been declared dead. But as the show progressed, the colors would bleed through. First deep burgundy, then crimson, then gold. By the final segment, the models would wear whites and silvers that caught the light like shattered mirrors.
It was her story. Her transformation. And she dared anyone to miss the point.
Loretta handed her a tablet with the seating chart. Bianca scanned it, noting the familiar names. Her father, seated in the second row with her mother. Her brother, conspicuously absent. She had made sure he wouldn't be invited after the mess he had created. And there, in the front row center, was Sev.
He had insisted on the position. Not because he wanted to be seen, but because he wanted to see everything. Every face, every reaction, every potential threat.
And there were threats tonight. She had made sure of that.
Three rows back on the left sat Marcus Veleno, the head of a family that had been encroaching on Rinaldi territory for months. He had been the one to send men after her, the one who thought she was just a pretty accessory to be used as leverage. Tonight, he would learn otherwise.
Two seats away from him was Francesca D'Angelo, the socialite who had made a career of undermining Bianca's work. She had spread rumors after the gala, whispered that Bianca was nothing more than the don's whore. That her designs were bought, not created.
Bianca had saved a special piece for Francesca's viewing.
"Sev's here," Loretta said, her voice carrying a note of warning. "He wants to see you before the show."
"Of course he does."
She found him in the private dressing room she had claimed for herself. He stood by the window, his broad shoulders silhouetted against the city lights. When he turned, she saw something in his eyes that made her breath catch. Pride.
"You look nervous," he said.
"I'm not nervous. I'm ready."
"That's not the same thing."
She stepped closer, letting him see the dress she had chosen for the finale. It was the centerpiece of the collection, a gown of pure white silk that seemed to flow like water. The bodice was structured, almost architectural, while the skirt fell in soft waves that brushed the floor. It was a wedding dress. But not for a bride.
For a woman who had survived a war.
"It's beautiful," Sev said, his voice rough.
"It's mine. I made it."
"I know you did."
He reached out and touched her face, his thumb tracing her cheekbone. "There are people out there who want to see you fail."
"I know."
"Some of them are going to try to hurt you."
"I know."
"Are you afraid?"
She met his eyes and smiled. "I was afraid when I walked into your house for the first time. I was afraid when I signed that contract. I was afraid every time I thought I was losing myself to you. But I'm not afraid of them."
"Then what are you afraid of?"
"Nothing. Not anymore."
He kissed her then, a slow possessive kiss that reminded her exactly who she belonged to. But when he pulled back, she saw the shift in his expression. He was watching her differently now. Not as a possession, but as an equal.
"You're going to change everything tonight," he said.
"I know."
The lights dimmed. The music began. And Bianca Costa stepped into the darkness to watch her resurrection unfold.
The first model walked the runway in a black pantsuit that seemed to absorb light. The shoulders were sharp, almost aggressive, while the cut of the jacket created an hourglass silhouette that was both powerful and sensual. The audience murmured. Cameras flashed.
Bianca watched from the wings, her heart pounding in time with the bass. She saw Marcus Veleno lean forward, his eyes narrowing as he recognized the message. This was armor. This was a woman who had been stripped of everything and rebuilt herself from the ground up.
The second model wore a dress of charcoal gray that seemed to shift as she moved. The fabric was deceptively simple, but the cut was precise. Every seam was a statement. Every fold was a declaration.
By the third segment, the colors began to bleed through. A deep burgundy gown with a neckline that plunged to the navel. A crimson dress with a back that was entirely open. The audience was silent now, watching with a hunger that Bianca had never seen before.
She saw Francesca D'Angelo's face harden. She saw Marcus Veleno's jaw tighten. And she smiled.
The seventh model wore the piece she had designed specifically for Francesca. It was a gown of deep purple, the color of bruises and royalty. The bodice was covered in crystals that caught the light and threw it back in sharp, painful bursts. The skirt was asymmetrical, one side falling to the floor while the other ended at midthigh.
It was beautiful. It was vicious. And it was a direct challenge to every rumor Francesca had ever spread.
Francesca's face went pale. She knew. They all knew.
The music shifted, building to a crescendo as the final segment began. The models emerged in white and silver, their movements fluid and confident. The light caught the fabric, creating patterns that seemed to dance across the room.
And then the finale.
Bianca stepped onto the runway.
The dress moved with her, the white silk glowing in the spotlight. She walked slowly, deliberately, her eyes scanning the crowd. She saw her mother crying. She saw her father nodding with a pride he had never shown before. She saw Sev rise from his seat, his hands clasped in front of him, his eyes fixed on her with an intensity that made her breath catch.
She reached the end of the runway and stopped. The audience was silent.
She looked at Marcus Veleno. "You thought I was weak."
She looked at Francesca D'Angelo. "You thought I was nothing."
She looked at the crowd, at all the people who had whispered and judged and dismissed her. "I am Bianca Costa. And this is my resurrection."
The applause began as a ripple and exploded into a roar.
She stood there, bathed in light, and let them see her. Not as the woman who had been sold. Not as the don's possession. But as herself.
Sev was waiting for her backstage when she finally escaped the crowd of well-wishers and reporters. He stood with his arms crossed, his expression unreadable.
"You did it," he said.
"I know."
"You made them all see."
"I know."
"You claimed your power."
She stepped closer, close enough to feel the heat of his body. "I claimed myself."
He pulled her into his arms, his mouth finding hers in a kiss that was both celebration and claim. When he broke away, his eyes were dark with something she recognized. Hunger.
"I want to take you home," he said.
"I'm already home."
He laughed, a low rough sound that sent shivers down her spine. "You're going to be the death of me."
"No. I'm going to be your partner."
He looked at her for a long moment, and she saw the shift. The wall he had built around himself, the armor he had worn for so long, cracked. Just slightly. Just enough.
"Yes," he said. "You are."
The crowd continued to cheer in the distance, but Bianca didn't hear them. She was too focused on the man in front of her, the man who had started as her captor and had become something she never expected.
Her equal.
Her partner.
Her future.
And as she walked out of the ballroom on his arm, she knew that this was only the beginning. The collection was over. The show was done. But the woman she had become was just getting started.
The Permanent Claim
Bianca stood at the window of Sev's penthouse, watching the city lights blur through the rain. The fashion show had been three days ago, and she still felt the aftershock of standing on that runway, her designs speaking for her. She had faced her enemies, claimed her agency, and Sev had been there, watching with something she could only call pride.
She heard his footsteps behind her, the warmth of his presence settling over her before he spoke.
"You're quiet tonight," he said.
"I'm thinking."
"About what?"
She turned to face him. He stood in the doorway, still in his suit from the meeting earlier. His tie was loosened, sleeves rolled to the elbow. He looked tired but alert, his dark eyes fixed on her.
"About how different everything is now," she said. "Three months ago I walked into this house terrified. Now I don't want to leave."
His expression softened. "You don't have to."
"I know. The contract ends next week."
He stepped closer. "The contract ends, yes. But that doesn't mean we end."
Her heart rate quickened. "What are you saying?"
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small velvet box. Her breath caught. He opened it to reveal a ring, a simple but stunning diamond set in platinum.
"I'm saying I want to do this right," he said. "I want to marry you, Bianca. Not because of any debt. Not because of any contract. Because I can't imagine my life without you in it."
She stared at the ring, then at him. "Sev..."
"I know I'm not an easy man. I know I've done things that would make most women run. But I've never felt this way about anyone. You've changed me. You've made me want to be better."
Tears pricked her eyes. "You're proposing."
"I am."
"What about the outfit? What about your reputation?"
"I don't care. Let them talk. I've built an empire that can withstand gossip. What I can't withstand is losing you."
She stepped forward, her hands trembling. "Yes."
His eyes widened. "Yes?"
"Yes, I'll marry you."
He pulled her into his arms, kissing her with a desperation that spoke of relief and hunger and something deeper she couldn't name. She melted into him, the solid warmth of his body against hers grounding her in a way nothing else could.
When they broke apart, he slid the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly.
"It's beautiful," she whispered.
"Not as beautiful as you."
She laughed, a sound that surprised her. "You're getting soft, Don Rinaldi."
"Only for you."
They stood there for a long moment, holding each other. Then he took her hand and led her to the bedroom.
"Tonight is about us," he said. "No contracts. No debts. Just you and me."
She looked at him, at the man who had started as her captor and become her partner. "I want to remember this forever."
He kissed her again, slower this time, more deliberate. His hands found the zipper of her dress and pulled it down. The fabric pooled at her feet.
"You're so beautiful," he murmured against her skin.
She shivered as his lips traced a path down her neck. "Sev..."
"I want to worship every inch of you tonight."
He lifted her onto the bed, his hands gentle but firm. He started at her collarbone, pressing soft kisses along the ridge of it, then lower, his mouth finding the swell of her breasts. He took his time there, his tongue circling one nipple while his fingers teased the other, pinching and rolling until she squirmed beneath him. She gasped, arching into his touch, her fingers threading through his dark hair.
"You like that," he said, not a question.
"You know I do."
He smiled against her skin, then moved lower, tracing the line of her ribs with his lips, dipping his tongue into the hollow of her navel. She trembled. His hands slid down her sides, gripping her hips as he pressed open-mouthed kisses across her stomach. Each touch sent warmth pooling between her thighs.
He shifted, settling between her legs. His breath was hot against her inner thigh as he kissed a slow path upward. She tensed in anticipation.
"Let go," he said. "Let me take care of you."
His tongue found her then, hot and deliberate. He licked a slow stripe up her center and she cried out, her hips bucking against his mouth. He held her steady, his hands firm on her thighs, and did it again. And again. He circled her clit with maddening patience, then sucked gently, and she moaned, her head pressing back into the pillow.
"Sev, please."
"Tell me what you want."
"More. I need more."
He groaned against her, the vibration sending sparks through her body. He slid one finger inside her, then a second, curling them as his tongue worked her clit. The pleasure built slowly at first, then faster, a rising tide that swept her under. She clenched around his fingers, her thighs trembling, and he pushed her higher, his mouth relentless.
She came apart with a cry, her body arching off the bed, her hands fisting in the sheets. He worked her through it, his touch gentling as the waves subsided, pressing soft kisses to her trembling thighs.
He moved up, kissing her mouth. She tasted herself on his lips. "I want to be inside you."
"Yes."
He shed his clothes quickly, his body lean and scarred and beautiful in the low light. She reached for him, her hands exploring the planes of his chest, the ridges of muscle along his abdomen. He was already hard, thick and heavy in her hand when she wrapped her fingers around him.
He hissed at her touch. "Bianca."
"I want to feel you."
He positioned himself between her legs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance. He entered her slowly, inch by inch, filling her completely. She gasped at the stretch, her body adjusting to him. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper.
"God, you feel incredible," he breathed.
They moved together in a rhythm that felt both familiar and new. This was different from before. This was a claiming, but mutual. A surrender, but chosen. He thrust into her with controlled intensity, each stroke hitting the place inside her that made her see stars.
"Bianca," he breathed against her ear. "I love you."
The words hit her like a physical blow. He had never said that before. Her eyes stung. "I love you too."
He kissed her as he thrust deeper, harder. His pace quickened, his breathing ragged. The pleasure coiled tight in her core, building toward something inevitable. She clung to him, her nails digging into the scars on his back as he drove into her. She felt him thicken inside her, his control slipping.
"Come with me," he said, his voice rough.
She shattered first, her orgasm crashing through her in waves. She clenched around him and he followed, his body shuddering as he spilled into her, his groan muffled against her neck.
They lay tangled together, breathing hard. He pressed his forehead to hers.
"You're mine," he said. "And I'm yours."
She smiled, tracing the scars on his chest. "Forever."
He wasn't done with her. She felt him stir again inside her, still half hard, and she gasped at the sensitivity. He smiled, a slow, predatory thing, and rolled his hips.
"Again?" she breathed.
"I told you. Every inch of you. All night."
This time he took her slower. He pulled out and turned her onto her stomach, his hands gliding up the length of her spine, kneading the tension from her shoulders before sliding lower. He massaged her hips, her thighs, the curve of her ass. She melted into the mattress, boneless and pliant.
He kissed the small of her back, then lower, his tongue tracing the cleft of her cheeks. She moaned into the pillow. His hands spread her thighs, and she felt his breath again, hot and close, before his mouth found her from behind. Different angle, different pressure. She gasped and pressed back into him.
He worked her with his tongue until she was trembling again, then moved up, his body covering hers. He entered her from behind, one hand braced beside her head, the other gripping her hip. The angle was deeper, the pressure more intense. She whimpered.
"Too much?"
"Don't stop."
He thrust slowly, each stroke deliberate and measured. She could feel every inch of him, the friction exquisite. His hand slid from her hip to her clit, his fingers circling in time with his thrusts. She bucked beneath him, overwhelmed.
"I can't," she gasped. "It's too much."
"You can," he murmured against her ear. "Give me one more."
She did. The orgasm was different this time, slower, rolling through her in long waves rather than crashing. She felt it everywhere, in her fingertips, in her toes, in the arch of her spine. He followed her over, his release pulling another groan from deep in his chest.
They collapsed together, his weight warm and heavy on top of her before he rolled them to their sides, still inside her. He held her close, his arm wrapped around her waist, his breath warm against the back of her neck.
"Mine," he said again, softer this time.
"Yours," she agreed.
They made love once more in the quiet hours before dawn, face to face, slow and tender. He held her gaze as he moved inside her, his expression open and vulnerable in a way she'd never seen. She cupped his face in her hands and kissed him as they came together, their bodies perfectly in sync.
When morning came, they lay in each other's arms, the ring on her finger catching the early light. She traced the lines of his face while he slept, memorizing the man who had started as her captor and become her home.
The debt was settled. Not with money or power, but with love.
And that, she realized, was the only currency that truly mattered.
The Open Empire
The first light of dawn crept through the heavy curtains, painting golden stripes across the bedroom floor. Bianca lay still, her body curved against the warmth of the man beside her, his arm draped possessively over her waist. She had been awake for nearly an hour, content to simply exist in this space, to breathe the air that smelled of him and of the life they had built together.
A year. It had been a year since the contract was signed, since she walked into this estate with her chin held high and her heart a knot of fear and defiance. That woman felt like a stranger now. The debt was a distant echo, a shadow that had long since dissolved in the light of what they had become.
She turned her head to look at him. Sev slept with a stillness that belied the violence coiled in his hands, the strategic mind that never truly rested. But here, in their bed, his features were softened. The hard lines of his jaw were relaxed. She traced the edge of a scar on his shoulder, the one he had gotten in the fight that had nearly taken his life before he met her. He had told her about it on the night of the soft reveal, in the safehouse, when he had finally let her see the cracks in his armor.
That night had changed everything.
Now, she was not just his wife. She was his partner in every sense. The fashion house she had always dreamed of was now a legitimate pillar of the Rinaldi empire, a place where art and commerce met, where she had the power to shape the world around her. And he had given her the space to do it, his support a quiet, unyielding force behind every decision she made.
Sev stirred. His arm tightened around her, pulling her closer. His voice, rough with sleep, rumbled against her hair.
"You're up early."
"I couldn't sleep," she whispered.
"Worried about something?"
"No." She turned to face him, her hand coming up to cup his cheek. "Just thinking."
"About what?"
"About how different everything is. How good it is."
A smile ghosted across his lips. It was a rare thing, a smile from Severino Rinaldi. She had learned to treasure them. "It is," he said. "But I'm not done yet."
"Done with what?"
"Building it. Building this." His hand slid down her back, resting on the curve of her hip. "There's a new investor. European. He wants to partner with the fashion house. Expand into Milan."
Bianca's breath caught. Milan. It had always been a dream, a distant star she had never thought she would reach. "Sev..."
"I told him you were the one to talk to. The meeting is next week."
She kissed him, a soft, grateful press of her lips against his. He deepened it, his hand tangling in her hair, pulling her closer. The hunger was still there, that constant, undiminished flame that had burned between them from the very first night. It had not faded. It had only grown sharper, more refined, a blade that knew exactly where to cut.
She broke the kiss, her forehead resting against his. "I don't know what I did to deserve you."
"You survived," he said simply. "You stayed. You fought."
"So did you."
"I had no choice." His hand moved to her jaw, tilting her face up to meet his gaze. "You made sure of that."
The morning light grew stronger, casting the room in a warm glow. She could hear the distant sounds of the estate waking up. Footsteps in the hallway. The muffled ring of a phone somewhere far below. But here, in this moment, there was only them.
She pushed herself up, straddling him. The sheets fell away, baring her skin to the cool air. He looked up at her, his dark eyes tracing the lines of her body with a reverence that still made her shiver.
"Good morning," she said, a smile playing on her lips.
"Good morning," he replied, his hands finding her waist.
She leaned down, kissing him slowly, deeply. It was not a frantic kiss, not the desperate claiming of their early days. It was a kiss of ownership, of belonging. She was his, and he was hers, and that truth was as solid as the earth beneath them.
His hands moved up her back, pulling her closer. She felt the heat of him, the hardness of his body against the softness of hers. She rocked her hips against him, a slow, teasing motion that drew a low groan from his throat.
"You're going to ruin me," he murmured against her lips.
"Good."
She sat up, her hands on his chest. The scars were a map of his past, a story written in silver lines on his skin. She traced them with her fingertips, a ritual of remembrance and acceptance. He watched her, his eyes half-lidded, his breathing slow and deep.
"I love you," she said. The words came easily now, a truth she no longer had to guard.
"I know." His hand came up to cover hers. "I love you too."
She shifted her hips, positioning herself above him. The slick heat of her body met the rigid length of his, and she gasped at the contact, at the electricity that sparked between them even now, after a year of mornings and nights and every stolen moment in between. She lowered herself onto him, inch by inch, savoring the stretch, the fullness, the way her body opened to accept him like it had been made for this singular purpose.
His hands gripped her hips, his fingers pressing into the soft flesh there. She could feel the restraint in him, the tension in his arms as he held himself still, letting her set the pace. His jaw was clenched, a muscle feathering beneath the skin, and she knew what it cost him to surrender control. She knew, and she loved him more for it.
"Sev," she breathed, his name a prayer on her lips as she took him fully, her hips flush against his.
"Bianca." His voice was rough, scraped raw with want. "Look at me."
She met his gaze, holding it as she began to move. Slow at first, a languid roll of her hips that drew him deep and then pulled away, only to take him again. The friction built like a tide, each wave stronger than the last. She braced her hands on his chest, feeling the hard planes of muscle beneath her palms, the steady thud of his heart.
He reached up, cupping her breasts, his thumbs brushing over her nipples until they peaked beneath his touch. She arched into his hands, a moan slipping from her throat. The sensation shot through her, pooling low in her belly, mixing with the pleasure of where they were joined.
"You feel so good," she whispered, her head falling back as she moved faster. "You always feel so good."
His hands slid to her waist, guiding her rhythm, pulling her down harder onto him with each thrust. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the room, obscene and beautiful. She could feel every inch of him, every ridge and vein, and she clenched around him, drawing a guttural curse from his lips.
"That's it," he said, his voice a low growl. "Take what you need."
She did. She rode him with abandon, her hips snapping forward, her body chasing the pleasure that coiled tighter and tighter inside her. The bed creaked beneath them, the headboard tapping against the wall in a steady rhythm. Her breath came in short, sharp gasps, punctuated by the soft cries she couldn't hold back.
He sat up, wrapping his arms around her, changing the angle. She gasped at the new depth, at the way he filled her completely. His mouth found her neck, her collarbone, the sensitive spot just below her ear that made her shudder. He nipped at the skin there, soothing the sting with his tongue.
"I'm close," she gasped, her nails digging into his shoulders.
"I know," he murmured against her throat. "I can feel you. You're so tight. So wet."
His words sent a jolt through her, pushing her closer to the edge. She moved faster, grinding against him, chasing the release that hovered just out of reach. His hand slipped between them, his fingers finding the swollen bud of her clitoris, and he circled it with a pressure that made her vision blur.
"Come for me, Bianca."
She shattered. The orgasm crashed through her like a storm, wave after wave of pleasure that rippled from her core to the tips of her fingers and toes. She cried out his name, her body clenching around him, pulsing with the force of her release. He followed her over the edge, his own climax tearing a groan from deep in his chest as he spilled himself inside her, his hips jerking upward, his arms tightening around her as if she might disappear.
They stayed like that, pressed together, trembling, their hearts pounding against each other. She could feel him still pulsing inside her, the aftershocks of their pleasure echoing between them. His breath was hot against her neck, ragged and uneven.
"I'll never get enough of you," he said.
"Good," she whispered. "Because I'm not going anywhere."
They lay there for a long time, tangled in the sheets and in each other. The morning grew brighter, the sounds of the estate more insistent. But neither of them moved. They were content to exist in this bubble, this fragile, perfect moment.
Finally, he spoke. "I have something for you."
"Another surprise?"
"A small one."
He reached over to the nightstand, his hand closing around a velvet box. He handed it to her, his expression unreadable. She opened it, her breath catching at the sight of the bracelet inside. It was delicate, a chain of platinum and diamonds, with a single charm in the shape of a key.
"It's the key to the new studio," he said. "The one in Milan. I had it made for you."
Tears pricked at her eyes. She blinked them back, unwilling to let them fall. "Sev, it's beautiful."
"It's not just a gift," he said, his voice low. "It's a promise. This empire we're building, it's yours as much as it is mine. I want you to know that. I want everyone to know that."
She kissed him again, a fierce, claiming kiss that left them both breathless. When she pulled back, she was smiling.
"I have something for you too," she said.
"Oh?"
"Breakfast. I'm going to make you breakfast."
He laughed, a low, genuine sound that warmed her from the inside out. "You don't cook."
"I can learn."
"I'd rather keep you in bed."
"You'll have me in bed later. But first, breakfast."
She slipped out of his arms, pulling on a silk robe. He watched her, his gaze a physical weight on her skin. She felt beautiful under that gaze, powerful and desired.
"Don't take too long," he said.
"I won't."
She walked to the door, pausing to look back at him. He was still watching her, his dark eyes soft in the morning light. She felt a surge of emotion, a love so vast it threatened to overwhelm her.
"Thank you," she said.
"For what?"
"For everything. For not giving up on me. For seeing me."
He sat up, the sheets pooling around his waist. "I didn't see you, Bianca. I saw a debt. A transaction. You're the one who made me see you."
She smiled, a tear finally escaping down her cheek. "We made each other."
"Yeah," he said, his voice rough. "We did."
She left the room, her heart full. The estate was alive around her, a hive of activity that she was now a part of. She passed Nico in the hallway, who gave her a nod of acknowledgment. She passed the staff, who greeted her with respect. She was no longer the outsider, the consultant, the debt. She was the lady of the house, the partner, the wife.
In the kitchen, she poured herself a cup of coffee, looking out the window at the sprawling grounds. The empire was growing. Milan was next. And after that, who knew? The world was open to them, a vast, uncharted territory waiting to be claimed.
She felt his presence before she heard him. His arms wrapped around her from behind, his chin resting on her shoulder.
"I couldn't wait," he murmured.
"I was gone for five minutes."
"Five minutes too long."
She leaned back into him, letting his warmth envelop her. The hunger was still there, a constant, burning flame. But it was no longer a fire that threatened to consume them. It was a hearth, a source of warmth and light that guided them home.
"I love this life," she said.
"Good," he replied. "Because it's yours."
She turned in his arms, looking up at him. The future stretched out before them, a tapestry of possibilities. And she knew, with a certainty that went beyond faith, that they would weave it together.
"Ours," she corrected.
He smiled, a real smile, the one that was only for her. "Ours."
He kissed her, and the world fell away. There was only him, only her, only the endless, open empire of their love.
