The First Session
Richard Sorensen leaned back in his leather chair, the deep brown surface creaking softly under his weight as he reviewed the stack of papers on his desk. The afternoon light filtered through the half-drawn blinds of his office, casting long shadows across the room filled with bookshelves and framed diplomas. He had been waiting for this appointment. Tracy Capault, his teaching assistant, had requested regular office hours to sharpen her performance in the graduate seminar. Ambitious, sharp, and always composed, she presented herself with that careful academic polish he found so ripe for reshaping.
The knock at the door came precisely on time. Richard smiled to himself, the expression calm and welcoming on his ebony features. "Come in, Miss Capault."
Tracy entered with her usual measured steps, her slim build accentuated by the fitted blouse and pencil skirt she wore. Her long auburn hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail, and her green eyes met his briefly before settling on the chair across from him. She carried a notebook and pen, her posture straight and professional. "Professor Sorensen. Thank you for fitting me in."
"Of course. Close the door and have a seat. We're here to make these sessions productive." He gestured to the chair, his baritone voice steady and reassuring. As she settled in, he noted the faint tension in her shoulders, the way her fingers gripped the notebook a touch too tightly. Performance anxiety, hidden under layers of pride. Perfect.
They began with the expected discussion of her recent paper and seminar contributions. Richard listened attentively, offering precise feedback that made her lean forward with interest. He kept his tone instructional, building a rhythm of guidance that invited her responses. She spoke clearly at first, outlining her ideas on behavioral psychology, but as the minutes passed, he observed the subtle shifts, the way her breathing evened out in the quiet room.
After twenty minutes of focused talk, Richard shifted the energy. "You've been working hard, Tracy. That kind of dedication takes mental energy. Before we dig deeper into your analysis, let's try something simple to clear your head. A quick relaxation exercise. It helps students stay sharp during these talks. Just follow my voice."
She hesitated, then nodded. "Alright. If it helps focus."
"Good. Sit back comfortably. Rest your hands on your lap. Now, take a slow breath in through your nose, hold it for a count of three, and release it through your mouth. Feel the air move through you." Richard's voice dropped into a lower, rhythmic cadence, each word measured and even. He watched her comply, her chest rising and falling. "Again. In... hold... out. Notice how your shoulders loosen with each exhale. That's it. You're doing well."
Tracy's eyes softened as she followed the pattern. Richard continued layering the suggestions, his piercing gaze steady on her face. "As you breathe, you can let the day's tension drift away. You feel safe here. Open to the guidance I'm offering. Trust comes easily in this space. It's natural to listen and absorb what I say, because it helps you improve."
Her posture eased further, the professional stiffness giving way to a subtle pliancy. Richard planted the first light seeds without fanfare. "Each time we meet like this, that sense of trust grows stronger. You find yourself more open to my suggestions, more willing to explore what feels right for your work and your focus. It feels good to let go of the pressure, even for these moments."
He guided her through a few more breaths, his commands gentle yet insistent. "When I count to three, you'll open your eyes feeling refreshed and clear. One... two... three."
Tracy blinked, her cheeks carrying a faint flush that hadn't been there before. She straightened slightly, clearing her throat. "That was... helpful. I do feel more centered."
Richard allowed a small nod, keeping his expression professional. "Excellent. Let's build on that in our next session. For now, review the sections we discussed and bring any questions. Same time next week?"
She gathered her notebook, her movements a fraction slower than when she arrived. "Yes, Professor. Thank you."
As Tracy left the office, the door clicking shut behind her, Richard remained seated, already planning the layers to come. Outside, in the quiet hallway, she walked toward the parking lot, the warmth from the session lingering in her chest and lower belly in a way she couldn't quite name. She reached her car, slid into the driver's seat, and paused with her hand on the key. A sudden, vivid image flashed through her mind, unbidden: the professor's strong hands guiding her, his presence filling the space, something thick and commanding pressing against her until she gasped. Her thighs pressed together involuntarily, heat blooming between them as she stared at the steering wheel, breath catching.
The engine started, but the fantasy clung, leaving her flushed and unsettled as she pulled away.
