Heather Ferreira moved through the kitchen with the quiet efficiency of a woman who had perfected her mornings years ago. The coffee machine hummed its familiar rhythm, the scent of dark roast filling the sunlit space. At thirty-one she kept the house in order without thinking, her slender frame moving from counter to sink in neat, practiced steps. Her long wavy hair stayed pulled back in a ponytail, and the soft fabric of her blouse brushed against fair skin that still held the coolness of early spring air from the open window.

Gabriel had left his old phone on the counter again. He always did that when he upgraded, forgetting the device existed until she reminded him. Heather picked it up without much thought, intending to tuck it into the drawer where it usually lived. The screen lit under her thumb. It was not locked. A small folder labeled simply "old files" sat at the bottom of the home screen, half-hidden behind a stock wallpaper.

She tapped it open out of idle curiosity. The first image made her stop breathing.

Gabriel stood in a hotel room, shirt open, his broad shoulders catching the low light. A petite blonde woman knelt in front of him, her tanned skin and long straight hair with honey highlights unmistakable even in the dim photo. Aurora Lembke. Heather recognized the sorority girl from the campus photos Gabriel had shown her months ago, the one who had needed "extra tutoring." The image showed Aurora's full lips wrapped around Gabriel's cock, her eyes lifted toward him with a bratty, knowing look. Heather's fingers tightened on the phone.

Her first reaction was pure, clean rage. Heat flooded her face and chest. She wanted to throw the phone across the room, wanted to scream his name until the walls shook. Twenty years old. A spoiled little rich girl who probably thought the world owed her everything. And Gabriel, her thirty-three-year-old husband, the man who kissed her goodnight every evening and called her Heather-bear in the dark, had his hands buried in that girl's hair.

She scrolled. More photos appeared. Gabriel on his back, Aurora straddling him, her perky breasts bare and her toned thighs flexed. Another showed Aurora's mouth open in a mocking laugh while Gabriel's face was buried between her legs. The final few were different. Screenshots of text messages. Aurora demanding money, threatening to send the photos to Heather, to Gabriel's office, to anyone who would listen. Blackmail, plain and simple. Gabriel had paid. Several times.

Heather set the phone down carefully, as though it might bite. Her hands shook. She pressed them flat against the cool marble counter and tried to steady her breathing. The rational part of her brain listed steps: confront him, pack a bag, call a lawyer. Yet she stayed exactly where she was, staring at the dark screen.

The house felt too quiet. She could hear the clock ticking in the hallway. She picked the phone up again. Her thumb hovered, then moved. She opened the photos once more. This time she looked longer. Aurora's body was small and tight, everything Heather's own curves had softened out of over the years. The girl's skin glowed under the hotel lights. In one shot Aurora's fingers dug into Gabriel's thighs, her expression triumphant. Heather felt something twist low in her stomach, something hot and unwelcome that had nothing to do with anger.

She hated the feeling. She tried to smother it with fresh fury, reminding herself of every promise Gabriel had made, every anniversary dinner, every quiet night they had spent together. The heat refused to leave. It spread instead, curling behind her navel and making her thighs press together without permission. Heather swallowed hard. Her breath came shorter now.

She closed the folder. Deleted it. Then she went into the settings and removed the trash. The evidence vanished from the old phone, but the images stayed burned behind her eyes. She placed the device back in the drawer exactly where Gabriel would expect to find it later.

Her mind raced through possibilities. If she confronted him now he would deny, or worse, beg. The thought of his guilt turned her stomach. She did not want his apologies. Not yet. She wanted to know what else existed, how far this had gone, whether Aurora still held the originals. Monitoring seemed safer. She could watch his calendar, check the new phone he actually used, listen for the lies he told about late meetings.

Heather poured herself a second cup of coffee even though her hands still trembled. She carried it to the living room and sat on the edge of the couch, staring at nothing. The betrayal sat like a stone in her chest, yet every time she pictured Aurora's smug little smile something else answered inside her, something slick and shameful. She pressed her thighs together again and told herself it was only shock.

Gabriel would be home in seven hours. She had time to decide how to behave, how to keep her face composed, how to begin watching him without him noticing. She already knew she would not delete the knowledge the way she had deleted the folder. The knowledge was hers now. It belonged to her in a way the photos never would.

She stood and smoothed her blouse. Routine waited. Laundry needed folding. Bills needed paying. She moved through the motions, but her mind kept returning to the image of Aurora's tanned hand wrapped around her husband's cock, the way the girl's eyes had sparkled with ownership. Heather's pulse jumped again, unwelcome and insistent.

By the time she heard Gabriel's car in the driveway that evening she had rehearsed her smile. It felt thin on her face, but it held. She greeted him at the door the way she always did, voice measured and polite. He kissed her cheek and asked about her day. She answered with small, ordinary details. Inside her chest the stone of betrayal sat beside something hotter, something she refused to name yet. She watched him move through their home and wondered how many lies he carried in his pockets.

She would find out. Quietly. Starting tomorrow.
