The Interview Trap

Natalie Cullin closed the door to her small office and let out a slow breath. The morning sun cut sharp lines across her desk, illuminating the stack of handwritten notes she had copied from the family grimoire. She could not risk bringing the actual book here. Its cracked leather cover and yellowed pages belonged in the locked drawer at home, safe from prying eyes. These transcriptions, however, were her weapons. She ran a finger along the elegant script her grandmother had taught her to replicate, the ink still slightly raised beneath her touch.

The passage for the initial seeding was simple, almost deceptively so. Maintain eye contact. Speak in a calm, measured rhythm. Weave the trigger phrase into ordinary conversation until it lands like a pebble in still water. The phrase she had chosen was deeper focus. Two ordinary words that would soon belong only to her. When spoken in her particular tone, they would create the first crack in Gary Belomar's formidable mind.

She checked her phone one last time. The voice recorder application was set to begin at the tap of her thumb. Her silk blouse clung lightly to her skin, the top button left undone not for seduction but for the confidence it gave her. The pencil skirt hugged her hips as she stood, smoothing it down with practiced hands. At twenty-eight she had learned exactly how much power a woman could wield by appearing both professional and untouchable.

Her sharp cheekbones caught the light as she studied her reflection in the narrow mirror by the door. Piercing green eyes stared back at her, bright with calculation. This is not revenge, she told herself. This is elevation. He has stepped on too many people on his way up. Today he begins to step down, even if he never realizes it.

The walk to the executive floor felt longer than usual. Every click of her heels on the marble echoed with possibility. When she reached the heavy oak door to Gary's corner office, she paused, straightened her ponytail, and knocked twice.

"Enter," came the deep, authoritative voice.

Gary Belomar sat behind a desk the size of a small yacht. His salt-and-pepper hair was perfectly styled, his broad shoulders filling out the tailored navy suit like it had been sewn onto him. At forty-two he still carried the presence of a man who had never been told no. His chiseled jaw tightened slightly as he looked up from a report, piercing blue eyes scanning her the way one might appraise a new piece of office furniture.

"Miss Cullin. Sit." He gestured to the leather chair across from him without rising. "Let's get this promotion discussion over with. I have a board call in forty minutes."

Natalie sat, crossing her legs at the ankle. She placed her phone face-down on the edge of his desk, thumb brushing the record icon as she did so. The small red light appeared. Secured. She felt the first flutter of excitement low in her stomach but kept her expression politely attentive.

"Thank you for making time, Mr. Belomar," she said sweetly.

He leaned back, fingers steepled beneath his chin. "Time is the one thing I don't waste. So tell me why you think you're ready to jump two levels when half the senior staff has been here longer. Is it because your quarterly numbers are decent? Or because you fill out a skirt better than they do?"

The words hung in the air. Natalie felt a spark of satisfaction. The recorder caught every syllable. She tilted her head slightly, letting her green eyes meet his without flinching.

"My numbers are more than decent, sir. They're the best in the division. But I understand the need for deeper focus when evaluating talent."

She spoke the phrase naturally, letting her voice drop half a tone on the key words. Gary blinked once. Nothing dramatic. Just a tiny hitch in his breathing that only someone watching for it would notice.

He gave a dismissive chuckle. "Deeper focus. That's cute. Look, Natalie, I've built this company by making hard calls. The board wants aggressive leadership. They want someone who isn't afraid to tell the room what they think even if it ruffles feathers. You have a reputation for being... persuasive. But persuasion only gets you so far."

"I agree," she replied, keeping her tone even. "That's why I've made it a point to study your own methods. With deeper focus on the market trends you identified last year, my team exceeded projections by eighteen percent."

Again she used it. Twice now. The grimoire was clear: repetition in the first encounter created the pathway. Gary shifted in his chair. His fingers drummed once on the polished wood.

"Eighteen percent. Yes, I saw that report." He waved a hand as if brushing away a fly. "But reports don't tell the whole story. I've watched you in meetings. You have a way of looking at people. Almost like you're sizing them up. It's unsettling. Attractive, sure, but unsettling. My wife says I have a weakness for smart, ambitious women. Jenna's usually right about those things."

Natalie smiled, small and controlled. The recorder now held him admitting to finding her attractive while referencing his wife. Perfect leverage. She leaned forward just enough for the silk of her blouse to catch the light.

"Your wife sounds like a wise woman. But we're here to talk about my future with the company. I believe I can bring even stronger results with the right support. All it takes is deeper focus from leadership."

Three times. Gary's left eye twitched. He reached up and rubbed the bridge of his nose, frowning.

"What is it with that phrase?" he muttered, almost to himself. "I feel like I've heard it a thousand times today."

Natalie kept her face neutral even as triumph sang through her veins. The seed was taking. The ancient technique worked exactly as the notes promised. A fleeting moment of disorientation. The mind reaching for something it could not quite name.

"Perhaps it's simply relevant," she said softly. "In my experience, most problems in business come down to whether people are willing to apply deeper focus when it matters most."

Gary stared at her for a long second. His broad chest rose and fell. For just an instant his blue eyes lost their sharp edge, growing hazy around the pupils. He shook his head as if clearing water from his ears.

"Must be the damn coffee," he said, voice regaining its commanding tone. "Or maybe I'm working too late again. Jenna's been on me about that. Says I'm distracted. Anyway, back to you. I won't lie, your ambition is impressive. Most junior executives would have folded under the pressure I've put on your department. You haven't. That counts for something."

"I'm glad you noticed," Natalie answered. She let a hint of warmth color her words, the kind of mock sweetness she knew he would interpret as deference. "I only want to prove myself. To you. With deeper focus, I know I can deliver results that will make the entire board take notice."

Four times. Gary's hand tightened on the arm of his chair. His jaw flexed. Another flicker crossed his face, there and gone so quickly she might have missed it if she had not been watching for exactly that reaction. His breathing changed, becoming fractionally deeper. The first thread of control was now stitched into his mind. Invisible. Untraceable. Hers.

He cleared his throat. "Results are what matter. Fine. I'll recommend you for the senior strategist role. But don't think this means you get special treatment. I expect twice the output. And I expect you to remember who gave you this chance."

"I won't forget," she promised. Her green eyes held his for three full heartbeats. "Ever."

The meeting lasted another fifteen minutes. Gary filled the time with arrogant pronouncements about leadership, about how men like him built empires while women like her needed strong guidance. Each inappropriate remark landed perfectly on the recording. She stored every word like ammunition.

By the time he stood to dismiss her, a thin sheen of sweat had appeared at his temples. He rolled his shoulders as if trying to shake off an invisible weight.

"That's all for now, Miss Cullin. Send me your updated projections by Friday."

"Of course, Mr. Belomar." She rose gracefully, collecting her phone. The red light had stopped recording the moment she tapped it. "And thank you for the valuable advice. I'll be sure to maintain deeper focus going forward."

His nostrils flared. That final use of the phrase made his eyelids flutter for half a second. He covered it by glancing at his watch.

"Good. Now get back to work."

Natalie walked out of the office with measured steps. Only when the elevator doors closed behind her did she allow herself a small, private smile. Her heart raced with the first true thrill of power. The arrogant, married CEO who had dismissed her for three years had just swallowed the first dose of her control. He did not know it yet, but his body and mind had already begun to recognize her voice as something worth obeying.

Back in her own office she locked the door, kicked off her heels, and opened the grimoire notes again. The next section detailed progressive conditioning. Relaxation techniques. Physical responses triggered by voice alone. She read carefully, making fresh annotations in her neat handwriting. The erection response. The pleasure association. The slow erosion of will.

Her cheeks flushed as she imagined Gary in his expensive suit, sitting at his massive desk, fighting an uncontrollable hard-on because she had whispered the right words. The image sent a rush of heat through her core. She pressed her thighs together beneath the desk and continued reading.

The recording on her phone was gold. She transferred the file to an encrypted folder, labeling it simply Insurance. Gary's dismissive arrogance, his wandering eyes, his casual objectification, all preserved in crystal clarity. If the hypnosis ever faltered, the recording would ensure his compliance. But she did not think it would falter. The family technique had never failed in the stories her grandmother told.

Natalie leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. She could still see the exact moment his gaze had gone glassy. That tiny surrender. The first of many.

"Deeper focus," she whispered to the empty room, practicing the precise cadence she would use next time. The words felt like velvet on her tongue. Like power.

She spent the rest of the afternoon studying the grimoire notes for the deeper methods. Progressive relaxation. Sensory anchoring. The technique for forcing physical arousal against the subject's will. Each page revealed new possibilities, and Natalie absorbed them all with the same ruthless ambition that had brought her this far.

By the time the sun began to set, painting her office in shades of amber and rose, she had outlined the first private session. Gary would invite her for after-hours mentorship. She would make sure of it. And when he did, she would take the arrogant CEO a little further under her spell.

Her phone buzzed. A company-wide email from Gary himself announcing new leadership opportunities. Her name was listed among those being considered. Natalie smiled at the screen.

The trap had been set. The puppet had taken the first invisible string. And the best part was that Gary Belomar still believed he was the one holding the scissors.

She slipped the notes back into her locked drawer and stood, stretching like a cat. The thrill in her chest had settled into a warm, steady glow between her legs. Power was the ultimate aphrodisiac. She could not wait to feel more of it.

As she gathered her things to leave, Natalie allowed herself one quiet, bratty whisper to the empty office.

"Good boy."

The words tasted like the beginning of everything.
