Self-Report
The error sat in row forty-seven of the quarterly cross reference audit like a landmine she had laid herself.
Erin scrolled up, then down. The numbers did not change. The vendor code was wrong. The authorization stamp was hers. She remembered that Friday afternoon, the pressure from legal to clear the backlog, the way she had approved the batch without proper verification. Three hundred thousand dollars in non-compliant vendor payments. Her signature on the line. Her department's name on the file. Her failure to catch it sooner.
Her office felt smaller than it had five minutes ago. The evening light had faded to grey dusk beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the rest of the compliance wing had emptied hours ago. She sat alone in the silence, her hand frozen over the mouse, the cursor blinking on the cell that would ruin her.
She could fix it. She could bury it in next quarter's adjustments. She could blame the vendor onboarding team. There were options that would protect her reputation and the authority she had spent seven years building.
Her hand moved toward the delete key.
A knock at her door made her jump.
Mark Brennan stood in the doorway, one hand resting on the frame, the other holding a tablet. He wore a dark charcoal suit, perfectly pressed, his tie knotted with the precision of a man who never rushed anything. He was the head of legal. He was also the last person she wanted to see right now.
"Working late," he said. It was not a question.
"Cleaning up some files." Her voice came out too high. She cleared her throat. "Just finishing the quarterly cross reference."
"Good." He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. The latch clicked with soft finality. "I was hoping to catch you before you left."
Erin's pulse quickened. She kept her hand still on the mouse, the cursor still blinking over the incriminating cell. "What can I do for you, Mark?"
He did not answer immediately. He crossed to her guest chair and sat down, crossing one leg over the other, the tablet resting on his knee. His eyes met hers and held them. He had a way of looking at people that made them feel transparent, like every thought was written on their skin.
"I reviewed the cross reference draft this afternoon," he said. "Before you made your corrections."
The air left the room.
"I see." She said it calmly. She did not feel calm.
"You found it, then. The vendor coding error."
"I found it." He tilted his head slightly. "And I saw you hesitate just now. Your hand moved toward the delete key before you stopped yourself."
Erin's throat tightened. He had been watching. He had been watching her through the glass while she sat here alone, wrestling with her conscience and her fear.
"I was going to flag it," she said. "I was just thinking about the best way to handle it."
"Were you?"
The question hung between them. She wanted to lie. She wanted to tell him yes, of course, she was a professional, she would never bury a three hundred thousand dollar error. But the words would not come. He already knew the truth. He had seen her hand.
"No," she said quietly. "I was going to delete it."
He nodded slowly. There was no anger in his face. No judgment. Only a kind of patient satisfaction, like a teacher watching a student arrive at the correct answer after a long struggle.
"Thank you for your honesty," he said. "That matters."
She blinked. "What matters?"
"Your honesty. Your willingness to admit what you were about to do." He set the tablet aside and leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, his hands clasped. "I have a proposal for you, Erin. One that keeps you employed. One that keeps this error contained. One that protects the department and the firm from external exposure."
"What kind of proposal?"
"The standard remediation path would involve a formal investigation, a report to the board, and your termination." He said it without inflection, like he was reading terms of service. "That is the correct process. That is what I should recommend."
She felt the floor drop away beneath her.
"But," he continued, "there is an alternative. A private remediation path. One that stays entirely within my authority as head of legal. One that requires your full cooperation and your complete acceptance of certain conditions."
"What conditions?"
He stood. He walked to her window and looked out at the city lights beginning to flicker on across the skyline. His back was to her. She could not read his face.
"You'll be moved to a visible position on the legal floor," he said. "A desk at the center of the open plan area. Glass walls. No privacy. Everyone will see you. Everyone will know you're no longer in compliance leadership."
Her stomach turned. "A demotion."
"A reassignment. You'll retain your salary and your title, but your authority will be transferred to a new role. A compliance example. A living standard of what happens when errors are caught and corrected."
"I don't understand."
He turned to face her. His eyes were dark and steady. "You'll sit at that desk every day. You'll remain visible. You'll be available. And when I require it, you'll provide me with private demonstrations of your commitment to full compliance."
The words landed like stones in still water. She understood them. She did not want to understand them.
"You're asking me to be your..."
"My example," he said. "My demonstration. My proof that the system works."
She shook her head. "That's not a professional arrangement. That's something else entirely."
"It's both." He walked back to her desk and stood over her. She had to tilt her head back to meet his eyes. "You made a mistake, Erin. A significant one. I'm offering you a path that preserves your career and your reputation. But the path has a price. You pay it in visibility. You pay it in availability. You pay it in full and honest submission to the process."
"And if I refuse?"
"Then I file the standard report tomorrow morning. You're terminated by end of week. The board investigates. The regulators are notified. Your career in compliance is finished."
She stared at him. He stared back. There was no cruelty in his expression. There was only certainty. He had already decided what he wanted. He was simply waiting for her to decide if she would give it to him.
"I need to think about this," she said.
"You have until I leave this room."
Her breath caught. "That's not enough time."
"It's all the time you have." He checked his watch. "Two minutes. Maybe less."
She looked down at her desk. At the cursor still blinking over the error. At the seven years of work she had poured into this job. At the reputation she had built. At the life she had constructed on the foundation of professional competence.
One mistake. One Friday afternoon of rushing. One lapse in judgment.
It could all be gone by Friday.
Or she could sit at a glass desk and let Mark Brennan use her as his example.
"What would I have to do?" she heard herself ask.
"Sit. Stay. Serve." He said it simply. "You'll follow my instructions exactly. You won't question them. You won't hesitate. You'll become the department's standard for perfect compliance."
"And the private demonstrations?"
"They'll happen when I decide. Where I decide. For as long as I decide." He stepped closer. His hand came up and touched her chin, tilting her face upward. His thumb brushed across her lower lip. "Starting now."
Her heart slammed against her ribs. "Now?"
"You've accepted the terms. I saw it in your eyes when you asked what you'd have to do." His thumb pressed gently against her lip. "Open your mouth."
She should have said no. She should have stood up and walked out and taken the termination. She should have preserved her dignity, her autonomy, her sense of self.
Instead she opened her mouth.
He slid his thumb inside, pressing down on her tongue. The taste of his skin was clean and faintly metallic. She held still, her eyes wide, her breath shallow.
"Good," he said. "Now kneel."
He released her chin and stepped back. She looked up at him, her mouth still open, her mind spinning. He gestured to the space between her desk and the window, where the frosted glass panel met the floor.
"Kneel there," he said. "I'll join you in a moment."
She rose on unsteady legs. She moved to the spot he indicated and lowered herself to her knees. The carpet was thin and industrial. The pressure against her knees was immediate and uncomfortable.
Mark walked to her door and unlocked it. He pulled it open a few inches, leaving a gap. Then he returned to his guest chair, pulled it close to where she knelt, and sat down.
"The floor is still active," he said. "Security will walk through in about twenty minutes. The cleaning crew arrives in an hour. People can see through the gap in the door. They'll see me sitting here. They won't see you."
She swallowed. Her throat was dry.
"This is your first demonstration," he said. "Your first act of compliance. You'll service me here, on your knees, while the rest of the building operates normally. You'll be silent. You'll be still except for the movements I require. And when I'm finished, you'll swallow everything I give you."
Her hands trembled in her lap. She had never done anything like this, had never even imagined it. But here she was, on her knees, her career hanging by a thread, her mouth already opened once at his command.
He unzipped his trousers. The sound was loud in the quiet office.
"Open your mouth again," he said. "And don't close it until I tell you."
She opened. He guided himself forward, his hand on the back of her head, his grip firm but not painful. The first touch of skin against her lips made her flinch. She had no idea what she was doing.
"Just your mouth for now," he said. "Take me in. Slow. Let yourself adjust."
She parted her lips further and he pressed forward. The weight of him on her tongue was strange and heavy. She tasted salt and warmth and the faint musk of his skin. Her instinct was to pull back. She forced herself to stay still.
"Breathe through your nose," he said. His voice was low, almost gentle. "I can feel you tensing. Relax your jaw. Let me in."
She tried to follow his instructions. She focused on breathing, on loosening the tension in her jaw, on accepting the slow, deliberate pressure of him filling her mouth. He was thick and warm, and the taste of him was more intense now that she had taken him deeper. Her tongue pressed flat beneath him, and she could feel the subtle pulse of blood beneath the skin.
"Good," he murmured. "Now move. Slow. Use your tongue."
She found a rhythm. Awkward at first, then smoother. She focused on breathing through her nose, on keeping her hands still in her lap, on not thinking about the gap in the door or the security guard who might walk past at any moment.
"Run your tongue along the underside," he said. His hand shifted in her hair, fingers threading through the strands. "Feel the ridge there. That's where I'm most sensitive."
She obeyed. The texture of him changed as she explored, smooth in some places, ridged in others. She traced the line he had indicated and felt his thigh tense beneath her other hand. She had not realized she was touching him. She had reached out instinctively, steadying herself against his leg.
"Keep your hands where I can see them," he said. "In your lap. You don't get to touch me unless I tell you to."
She pulled her hand back. The correction sent a flush of heat through her that she did not expect. She was being trained. Corrected. Directed. And some part of her, some part she did not want to acknowledge, was responding to it.
She settled her hands in her lap and continued. Her mouth moved over him in the rhythm he had established, her tongue working against the places he had shown her. He was fully hard now, and the angle had changed. She had to open wider, to relax deeper, to take more of him.
"That's it," he said. His breathing had changed. Still controlled, but heavier. "Take me deeper. Don't stop."
She pushed forward. The pressure against the back of her throat made her gag, and she pulled back instinctively, her eyes watering.
"Not yet," he said. "You'll learn to take it all. But not tonight. Tonight I just want your mouth. Just the rhythm. Keep going."
She returned to the rhythm. Easier now. Her jaw had relaxed, and her mouth had adjusted to the thickness of him. She could taste him more fully now, salt and musk and something that was just him, just Mark, and the taste made her dizzy.
Outside the door, she heard footsteps. A voice called out a goodnight to someone. Another voice answered. The footsteps passed.
She kept moving. Her heart was pounding, but her mouth never stopped. The fear of being caught, the humiliation of being seen, it all mixed together into something sharp and electric that made her skin prickle.
"You're doing well," Mark said. His hand moved to the back of her head, cradling it. "Most people fight it. You're not fighting. You're accepting. That's what I need from you."
She did not know if that was a compliment or an observation. She did not care. She was lost in the rhythm now, lost in the sensation of him in her mouth, the weight and the warmth and the slow, deliberate pace he had set for her.
Minutes passed. Her knees ached against the thin carpet. Her jaw ached from holding the position. But her mind had gone quiet, emptied of everything except the rhythm of her mouth and the pressure of his hand and the taste of him on her tongue.
"Faster now," he said. "I'm close."
She increased her pace. Her tongue pressed harder against him, moving in the patterns she had learned, and his breathing grew ragged. His hand tightened in her hair, not painfully, but with a possessiveness that made her stomach clench.
"Look at me," he said.
She raised her eyes. His face was above her, his jaw tight, his eyes dark and focused on her. He watched her mouth moving over him, watched her lips stretched around his thickness, and the look in his eyes was something she had never seen before. Not just desire. Control. Satisfaction. Ownership.
"Don't stop," he said. "Don't look away."
She held his gaze. Her mouth kept moving. Her tongue kept working. She could feel him getting closer, feel the tension building in his body, in the hand gripping her hair, in the subtle shift of his hips.
He came with a soft exhale, his hips pressing forward, his release flooding her mouth. The taste was sharp and bitter and warm, and she remembered his instruction. She swallowed. Once. Twice. Again until her mouth was empty and his hand relaxed against her head.
"Good girl," he said.
She stayed on her knees, her mouth still open, her eyes closed. She heard the soft sound of his zipper. His chair shifted as he stood. His footsteps carried him to the door, and the latch clicked softly into place as he closed it fully.
"You can stand now," he said.
She opened her eyes. She pushed herself up on trembling legs. Her knees were sore. Her jaw ached. Her face was flushed and her eyes were wet, though she had not cried.
Mark stood by her desk, picking up his tablet. He looked at her with the same patient satisfaction he had shown earlier.
"Tomorrow morning," he said, "you'll report to the legal floor. Your new desk is already being prepared. Jordan Mott will be your desk monitor. She'll explain the daily protocols."
Erin nodded. She could not find her voice.
"You did well tonight," he said. "Better than I expected. Keep that willingness, and this arrangement will work for both of us."
He walked to the door. He paused with his hand on the handle.
"One more thing," he said. "When you sit at your new desk tomorrow, I want you to remember this moment. Remember what it felt like to obey. Remember how it felt to be used and then dismissed. That feeling will become your anchor."
He left.
Erin stood alone in her office, the taste of him still on her tongue, her knees still aching, her career reduced to a glass desk and a set of instructions she had not fully read.
She had made her choice.
Now she had to live with it.

Visible Station
The elevator doors opened onto the legal floor and Erin stepped out into the morning light. Her heels clicked against the polished concrete as she walked past the rows of cubicles toward the open area where Mark had said her new station would be. The office was already humming with activity. Associates tapped at keyboards while paralegals carried stacks of documents and coffee cups steamed on every desk.
And there it was.
The desk sat in the exact center of the floor, raised on a low platform that lifted it six inches above the surrounding carpet. It was made entirely of frosted glass, its surface clean and empty except for a single monitor, a keyboard, and a small tray to the side. The chair behind it was not a chair at all. It was a padded kneeler, low to the ground, with a cushioned seat that would force whoever used it to remain upright and still.
Erin stopped walking. Her breath caught in her throat.
She had agreed to this. She had signed the remediation form. She had knelt behind the frosted panel in Mark's office and taken him into her mouth while the floor operated normally just a few feet away. But seeing the desk in the full light of the open floor made everything real in a way that the private ritual had not.
"You're early."
Mark's voice came from behind her. She turned to find him approaching with a leather portfolio under his arm. He was immaculate as always, his dark suit pressed and his tie perfectly knotted. His expression gave nothing away.
"I wanted to see it before everyone else arrived," she said.
"And what do you think?"
She looked back at the desk. The kneeler. The empty surface. The glass that would make her visible from every angle.
"It's very exposed."
"That's the point." Mark stepped past her and set the portfolio on the desk. He opened it and pulled out a thin folder. "Your new role requires visibility, Erin. Compliance isn't about hiding mistakes. It's about demonstrating correction. Every person who walks past this desk will see you here. They'll know what you did and what you're doing to make it right."
She nodded. Her throat felt tight.
"Come here."
She walked to the desk. Mark gestured for her to stand beside him as he arranged the contents of the folder on the glass surface. There was a printed schedule, a list of protocols, and a small velvet pouch that she did not recognize.
"The kneeler is designed for extended use," he said, his voice calm and instructional. "You'll remain in position for the full workday. You may stand only for bathroom breaks, which will be scheduled and monitored. You may shift your weight as needed, but you won't leave the kneeler without permission. Is that clear?"
"Yes."
"Good. Now, there's one more element we need to address before the floor fills up."
He picked up the velvet pouch and loosened its drawstring. From it he pulled a small object that caught the light. It was a plug, sleek and black, with a curved base that would fit flush against the body. The silicone was matte, professional, clinical.
Erin's stomach tightened.
"This is part of your daily protocol," Mark said, holding it up between two fingers. "You'll wear it throughout the workday. It serves as a constant reminder of your position here. Of your compliance."
He set the plug on the glass surface beside the folder. Then he looked at her.
"Remove your underwear."
The words hung in the air between them. Erin glanced around the floor. A few early arrivals were settling into their cubicles, their attention on their screens. No one was looking at her. Not yet.
She reached under her skirt and hooked her fingers into the waistband of her panties. She pulled them down, stepping out of them one foot at a time. The fabric was damp. She had been wet since she woke up that morning, since she had dressed in the dark and driven to the office knowing what awaited her.
Mark took the panties from her hand and placed them in the portfolio. Then he picked up the plug and uncapped a small tube of lubricant that had been in the pouch.
"Bend over the desk."
She turned and placed her palms on the cool glass surface. The monitor was to her right, the keyboard to her left. She leaned forward, arching her back, her skirt riding up over her thighs. The position was deliberate. Vulnerable.
Mark moved behind her. She heard the soft sound of lubricant being applied, then the cool touch of his fingers as he parted the cheeks of her ass. His touch was clinical, unhurried. He traced his thumb along the cleft of her bottom, spreading the slick gel in slow circles around her tightest entrance. The lubricant was cold against her heated skin, and she shivered despite herself.
"Relax," he said. "Breathe."
She felt him press the tip of one finger against her, testing her resistance. The muscle clenched instinctively, then softened as she exhaled. He pushed gently, sliding just the tip inside, coating her with the slippery gel. She bit her lip at the intrusion, strange but not unwelcome. Her body was responding in ways she couldn't control. She could feel herself growing wetter, the heat between her legs intensifying.
Mark withdrew his finger and she heard him coat the plug with more lubricant. Then the smooth silicone tip pressed against her entrance, firm and unyielding.
"Take a breath," he said.
She did. And then the plug began to push inside her, slow and steady, stretching her open. The sensation was overwhelming. The plug was wider than his finger, much wider, and she felt herself being forced open as it advanced. She gasped, her fingers curling against the glass surface. The pressure built steadily as the widest part of the plug stretched her, pushing past the tight ring of muscle. She whimpered softly, her body trembling.
"That's it," Mark murmured. "You're doing well."
Then the widest part passed through, and she felt the flare of the base settle against her skin. The pressure was immediate and constant, filling her in a way that made her clench around it involuntarily. The fullness was intense, pressing against sensitive places she hadn't known existed. She could feel it with every breath, a solid presence inside her that she couldn't ignore.
"Good," Mark said. He adjusted her skirt, pulling it down to cover her again. "Stand up."
She straightened, turning to face him. The plug shifted inside her with every movement, a constant presence that she could not ignore. She felt impossibly full, the base of the plug pressing against her with each step. The sensation sent small sparks of pleasure through her lower body, intensifying the wetness between her thighs.
"You'll feel that all day," Mark said. "That's the point. Every time you shift or stand or cross your legs, you'll remember why you're here. Now, take your position."
She moved to the kneeler and lowered herself onto it. The padding was firm but comfortable, supporting her weight as she settled into an upright kneeling position. Her thighs pressed together, and the plug shifted inside her, pressing deeper. She caught her breath. Her hands rested on the glass surface in front of her. The monitor was at eye level, the keyboard within reach.
Mark stood beside her, looking down at her with an expression of quiet satisfaction.
"How does it feel?"
"Different," she said. "Strange."
"You'll get used to it. By the end of the week, this will feel normal."
He picked up the portfolio and turned to leave. Then he paused.
"One more thing. You're not to speak unless spoken to. If someone addresses you, you may respond, but keep your answers brief and professional. You're here to work, not to socialize. Understood?"
"Yes."
He walked away, his footsteps fading into the ambient noise of the office.
Erin was alone.
She sat in stillness, her hands resting on the glass, her gaze fixed on the monitor. The screen showed a login prompt. She reached out and typed her credentials, the movement causing the plug to shift inside her. She bit her lip and focused on the task.
The morning passed slowly.
At first, no one noticed her. The floor filled up gradually, people arriving and settling into their routines. The cubicle walls blocked their view of the raised desk, and Erin remained invisible in her stillness.
But then the coffee run started.
A paralegal named Marcus walked past her desk on his way to the break room. He did a double take, his eyes widening as he registered her position. He stopped walking.
"Erin?"
She looked up at him but did not speak.
"What are you doing? Why are you kneeling?"
She remembered Mark's instruction. She was not to speak unless spoken to, but she had been spoken to. She was allowed to respond.
"I'm working," she said. Her voice was steady. "This is my new station."
Marcus stared at her for a long moment. His gaze traveled from the kneeler to the glass desk to the flush on her cheeks. He seemed to be putting pieces together, connecting her position to the rumors that had been circulating about the compliance department.
"Right," he said finally. "Okay. Well. Good luck with that."
He walked away, his coffee forgotten.
Erin watched him go. Her heart was pounding, but she did not move. She kept her hands on the glass, her posture straight, her expression neutral.
More people passed throughout the morning. Some glanced at her and quickly looked away. Others stared openly, their curiosity overcoming their professionalism. A senior associate named Patricia stopped directly in front of the desk and studied her for what felt like an eternity before speaking.
"Are you all right, Erin?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"Because this seems... unusual."
"It's a new protocol."
Patricia's lips pressed into a thin line. She seemed about to say something else, then thought better of it. She walked away without another word.
By lunchtime, the entire floor knew. Erin could feel their eyes on her as they passed, could hear the whispers that followed in her wake. She did not turn to look at them. She kept her gaze on the monitor, working through the compliance reports that had been assigned to her, her fingers moving over the keyboard in small, precise motions.
The plug was a constant presence. Each time she shifted her weight or reached for the mouse, it pressed against her from the inside, reminding her of her position. She was wet. She had been wet all morning, the arousal building slowly beneath the surface of her professional composure. The fullness inside her seemed to intensify the sensation, each small movement sending a pulse of pleasure through her core. She squeezed her thighs together beneath the desk, trying to find relief, but the pressure only made things worse.
Jordan Mott appeared at her desk just after lunch. The junior associate was carrying a tablet and a cup of water, which she set on the glass surface beside the keyboard.
"Mark asked me to check on you," Jordan said. Her voice was professional, but her eyes were curious. "How are you holding up?"
"I'm fine."
"You've been here for hours. Do you need a break?"
"No."
Jordan studied her for a moment. Then she picked up the tablet and made a note.
"All right. I'll be checking in throughout the day. If you need anything, you can signal me by raising your hand."
"Thank you."
Jordan walked away, and Erin was alone again.
The afternoon stretched on. More people passed. More glances. More whispers. Erin remained still, her hands on the glass, her gaze on the screen. She worked through the reports, her mind focused on the data, on the numbers, on anything other than the plug inside her and the eyes upon her.
But she couldn't escape the awareness of her own body. The pressure of the kneeler against her shins. The weight of her skirt pooling around her thighs. The heat between her legs, growing steadily as the hours passed. The plug seemed to pulse inside her with every heartbeat, a constant reminder of her submission. She was so wet she could feel it on her inner thighs, her body betraying her despite her composed exterior.
Late in the afternoon, Mark returned.
He stood at the edge of her desk, looking down at her with that same expression of quiet satisfaction. His hands were clasped behind his back, his posture relaxed.
"How has your first day been?"
"Quiet," she said. "People are curious."
"Let them be curious. Curiosity will become understanding, and understanding will become acceptance. By the end of the week, no one will think twice about seeing you here."
He reached out and touched her chin, tilting her face up to meet his gaze.
"You're doing well, Erin. Better than I expected."
She felt a flush of warmth at his words. A strange, almost grateful feeling that she did not want to examine too closely.
"I want to follow the protocol," she said. "I want to do this right."
"You will." He released her chin and stepped back. "One more hour. Then you can stand and prepare to leave. I'll see you tomorrow."
He walked away, and Erin watched him go. The plug shifted inside her as she turned back to her monitor, and she felt the arousal spike again, sharp and insistent.
She took a breath and began typing.
The last hour passed in a blur of numbers and glances and the constant pressure of the plug. When the workday finally ended, Erin raised her hand, signaling to Jordan that she was ready to be dismissed.
Jordan appeared within minutes.
"You can stand," Jordan said. "Your shift is over."
Erin rose from the kneeler, her legs stiff from hours of stillness. The plug pressed against her as she straightened, and she had to fight the urge to reach down and adjust it. She could feel her arousal slick between her thighs, the product of hours of relentless stimulation.
"Same time tomorrow?" she asked.
"Same time tomorrow."
Erin walked to the elevator, her heels clicking against the concrete. She felt the eyes of the floor on her back, felt the weight of their attention like a physical presence.
But she didn't look back.
She stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the lobby. The doors slid closed, and she was alone.
The plug was still inside her. She could feel it with every step, every breath.
She had never felt more exposed.
She had never felt more seen.
And somewhere deep inside her, in a place she was not yet ready to acknowledge, she knew that she didn't want it to stop.
Audit Shadow
The morning light crept across the legal floor like a slow tide, and Erin watched it from her glass desk. She had been sitting at the new station for three days now. Days of enforced stillness, feeling the plug shift inside her with every breath, learning to keep her hands flat on the surface and her spine straight. She was becoming visible.
Today the auditors would come.
She had known about the quarterly walkthrough since before her reassignment. In her old role, she had prepared the compliance packets for these reviews, ensuring every file matched every regulation. Now she would be part of the display.
Jordan appeared beside her desk just before nine. The junior associate carried a tablet and a cup of coffee, his expression carefully neutral. "Mark wants you ready by the hour. The audit team will start on the third floor and work their way up. You'll be their last stop before the executive suite."
"I understand." Erin's voice came out steady. She had practiced stillness until it became second nature. She had practiced obedience until it felt like breathing. Today would test both.
Jordan set the coffee on her desk without being asked. "He said to tell you that you won't be at your desk when they arrive. You'll be on the floor."
Erin's stomach tightened. "On the floor?"
"Kneeling. At the edge of your desk. He wants you visible from the hallway, positioned so they can see you as they approach." Jordan's eyes met hers. "He said you'll know the posture."
She did. She had been trained for it on the second day, when Mark had demonstrated the exact angle of her spine, the placement of her hands on her thighs, the tilt of her chin. "Presentation kneeling," he had called it. "The position of someone who has nothing to hide and nothing to demand."
"I'll be ready," she said.
Jordan nodded and walked away, his footsteps fading into the ambient hum of the floor. Other associates were arriving now, settling into their stations, glancing at her with the mixture of curiosity and discomfort that had become familiar. She was the compliance desk now. The thing that everyone saw but no one acknowledged directly.
A few minutes before the hour, Erin pushed her chair back and lowered herself to the floor. The carpet was thick and gray, clean from the nightly maintenance crew. She arranged her knees at the edge of the glass desk, her skirt riding up slightly as she settled into the practiced posture. Hands on thighs, palms down. Spine straight. Chin lifted just enough to show her throat but not her eyes.
The plug was already inside her, a constant presence that had become as familiar as her own heartbeat. She had worn it every day since the beginning of her new life, removing it only to sleep and shower. The silicone curve pressed against her inner walls, a reminder of her place.
She waited.
The floor came alive around her. Phones rang. Keyboards clicked. Conversations rose and fell in the rhythm of corporate routine. No one spoke to her. No one acknowledged the woman kneeling at the glass desk in the center of the legal floor. That was part of the ritual now. She was visible but not addressable, present but not participating.
Shortly after nine, the elevator chimed.
Erin heard the footsteps before she saw anyone. Multiple pairs of shoes on the marble floor of the lobby, approaching the glass walls of the legal suite. She kept her eyes forward, her breathing even.
The audit team entered in a cluster. Four men and two women, all in dark suits, carrying tablets and folders. They were led by a senior partner from the external firm, a silver-haired man named Hendricks who had been reviewing their compliance for years. He knew her. He had called her "the best compliance officer in the city" at last year's closing dinner.
He stopped when he saw her.
The rest of the team stopped with him, their conversation trailing off as they took in the scene. A woman in a tailored blouse and pencil skirt, kneeling at a glass desk, perfectly still, her hands resting on her thighs like a statue in a museum.
"Ms. Shaw?" Hendricks's voice carried a note of confusion. "Are you alright?"
She had been prepared for this question. Mark had rehearsed it with her. "I'm fine, Mr. Hendricks. Please proceed with your review. I'm available if you have any questions about the compliance files."
Her voice was calm, measured, professional. She could hear the training in it, the hours of practice that had turned her natural defensiveness into something smooth and accommodating.
Hendricks exchanged a glance with one of his colleagues. "I see. Well, we'll begin with the document review. Your department head mentioned you'd be... available for consultation."
"I'm always available."
The audit team spread out across the floor, taking positions at empty desks and conference tables. They pulled files from the cabinets, opened laptops, began the methodical process of checking every number against every regulation. Erin remained in her kneeling position, watching them work.
Minutes stretched into longer stretches. Her knees began to ache against the carpet, but she did not shift her weight. The stillness had become a kind of meditation, a way of existing outside her body while remaining perfectly within it. She could feel the plug with every breath, a gentle pressure that reminded her of her purpose.
Then her phone buzzed.
It was on the desk above her, face up. She could see the screen from her kneeling position. A message from Mark.
"They're about to ask about the Q4 adjustments. You remember the file."
She did. The Q4 adjustments were the reason she was here. The oversight she had found, the error in her own department's records, the thread that had unraveled her old life and rewoven it into this one.
Hendricks approached her desk, his tablet in hand. "Ms. Shaw, I have a question about the fourth quarter reconciliation. The numbers show a discrepancy in the compliance tracking system that doesn't appear in the main ledger."
Erin lifted her chin slightly, meeting his eyes. "The discrepancy was identified during our internal review. It was caused by a data migration error between the legacy system and the new platform. The correction was applied retroactively and documented in appendix C of the compliance report."
Hendricks nodded, making a note. "And who was responsible for the migration oversight?"
She had known this question would come. She had prepared for it. "I was. The error occurred under my supervision. It has been fully remediated."
Her voice did not waver. There was no shame in the admission, only fact. She had made a mistake and reported it, then accepted the consequences.
Hendricks looked at her for a long moment. "I see. And the remediation process? How was that handled?"
Before she could answer, the plug inside her vibrated.
The sensation was sudden and sharp, a deep thrumming that spread through her pelvis and up her spine. She kept her face neutral, her hands still on her thighs, but her breath caught for just a fraction of a second. The vibration hummed low and steady against the sensitive walls of her channel, the silicone curve pressing firmly against the spot that made her pulse quicken no matter how many times she felt it. She could feel herself clenching around the plug involuntarily, her body responding to the stimulation even as her mind stayed focused on the conversation.
Mark was watching. He had to be. He had the remote, the small device that could control the plug from anywhere in the building. He was testing her, seeing how she would handle the distraction while answering questions about her failure.
"The remediation was handled internally," she said, her voice steady despite the vibration pressing against her most sensitive places. "The error was corrected, the documentation updated, and new protocols were implemented to prevent recurrence."
The vibration continued, a low constant hum that made her thighs tremble beneath her hands. She could feel warmth building between her legs, a slow spreading heat that had nothing to do with embarrassment. The plug pulsed in a rhythm that seemed designed to unravel her, each throb pressing against her inner walls and sending sparks of sensation cascading through her core. She focused on her breathing, on the words she had rehearsed, on the mask of professional composure that she wore like armor.
"And the staff member responsible? Were there any disciplinary actions?"
The vibration intensified, shifting from a low hum to a pulsing rhythm that matched her heartbeat. Erin felt heat rising in her cheeks, a flush spreading across her chest. The plug throbbed harder now, each pulse a deliberate stroke against the swollen tissue inside her. She could feel herself growing wet, could feel the way her body was responding to the relentless stimulation despite her stillness. Her nipples had tightened beneath her blouse, sensitive peaks that pressed against the silk with every breath. She kept her eyes on Hendricks, her posture perfect.
"The staff member accepted a revised role within the department. The new position emphasizes visibility and accountability. All parties are satisfied with the outcome."
Hendricks studied her for a moment longer. She could see the questions in his eyes, the curiosity about why a senior compliance officer was kneeling on the floor while answering audit questions. But he was a professional. He knew when to push and when to let things lie.
"Very well. I'll review the appendix and let you know if I have any further questions."
He turned and walked back to his team. The vibration stopped.
Erin exhaled slowly, her shoulders relaxing by a fraction of an inch. The plug was still inside her, still present, but the active stimulation had ceased. She had passed the first test. Her body was still humming with residual sensation, her channel still clenching around the silicone curve, but the urgent pressure had faded. She had survived.
But there would be more.
The audit continued through the morning. The team reviewed files, asked questions, made notes. Each time Hendricks or one of his colleagues approached her desk, the pattern repeated. They would ask about a specific document or process. She would answer with the precision she had always been known for. And somewhere in the middle of the exchange, the plug would activate, a reminder that she was not just answering questions but performing her role.
The second time it happened, the vibration came in short bursts, each one pressing against her inner walls like a series of small thrusts. She answered a question about quarterly reporting protocols while her body clenched and released around the plug in rhythm with the pulses, her breath controlled but shallow, her thighs trembling beneath her hands.
The third time, the vibration was a slow building wave that crested and fell, crested and fell, each cycle pushing her closer to an edge she was not permitted to reach. She spoke about risk assessment frameworks while her body rode the sensation, her channel slick and swollen, her clit throbbing in sympathy with each pulse.
The fourth time, the vibration was accompanied by a rotating motion inside the plug, a swirling sensation that pressed against every sensitive nerve ending simultaneously. She explained the compliance training program while her fingers dug into her own thighs, her nails leaving small crescents through the fabric of her skirt, her breath coming in short controlled bursts that she disguised as pauses for thought.
The fifth time, the vibration was so intense that she could feel it in her teeth, in her fingertips, in the soles of her feet pressed against the carpet. She answered questions about vendor compliance standards while her body trembled on the edge of release, every muscle clenched against the wave that threatened to break over her.
The sixth time, the plug pulsed in a pattern that seemed designed to mimic the rhythm of intercourse, deep slow thrusts that pressed against her front wall with each cycle. She spoke about regulatory updates while her body betrayed her, her channel clenching around the plug with each pulse, her hips wanting desperately to rock forward, to chase the sensation, to find the release that was being deliberately withheld.
By the time the team broke for lunch, Erin's thighs were trembling with exhaustion and unspent tension. The plug had activated six times, each session longer and more intense than the last. She had answered every question without breaking composure, without letting her voice waver, without giving any sign of the stimulation building inside her. But her body was a live wire, every nerve ending sensitized, her channel swollen and slick around the plug, her clit throbbing with the need for release that Mark had not granted.
Jordan appeared at her side as the audit team filed out toward the elevators. "Mark says you can take a break. Use the restroom, get some water. Be back in position by one."
Erin nodded, but she did not move immediately. Her legs had gone numb from the prolonged kneeling, and she needed a moment to feel them again. "Thank you."
Jordan hesitated. "You're doing good. The auditors don't suspect anything."
"They're not supposed to."
She waited until he walked away, then slowly, carefully, pushed herself up from the floor. Her knees protested, her thighs burning as blood rushed back into them. She stood at the edge of her desk, gripping the glass surface for support, and took a long slow breath. The plug shifted inside her as she moved, pressing against her swollen walls, and she had to close her eyes for a moment against the rush of sensation.
The restroom was empty when she entered. She locked the door and leaned against the sink, looking at herself in the mirror. Her makeup was still perfect. Her hair was still in place. But there was something different in her eyes, something that had not been there three days ago. A calmness. An acceptance. A recognition of what she had become.
She could feel her own arousal between her thighs, a wet heat that had been building all morning. Her body was desperate for release, every nerve ending crying out for the climax that had been denied her. But she did not touch herself. That was not permitted. Her pleasure belonged to Mark now, to be given or withheld at his discretion.
She splashed water on her face and dried it with a paper towel. Then she adjusted her skirt, checked her blouse, and walked back to the floor.
The afternoon session was more intense. The audit team had moved to the detailed review, examining specific transactions and flagging potential issues. Hendricks spent most of the time at a conference table with two of his senior staff, but he called Erin over twice more for clarification.
Both times, she had to walk across the floor to reach him. Both times, she felt every eye on her as she moved, her heels clicking on the marble, her skirt swaying with each step. The plug shifted inside her with each stride, pressing against her still-swollen walls, sending small shocks of sensation through her core with every step. Both times, the plug remained dormant, a silent promise of what would come.
In the late afternoon, Mark appeared.
He walked onto the legal floor without announcement, his presence parting the ambient noise like a blade. He was tall and immaculate in his dark suit, his expression unreadable as he approached the audit team's conference table.
Erin watched him from her kneeling position. She had returned to it after the last round of questions, settling back into the familiar posture as the afternoon wore on. Now she watched Mark shake hands with Hendricks, exchange pleasantries, and gesture toward her desk.
"I understand you've been consulting with our compliance example," Mark said, his voice carrying across the floor. "I hope she's been helpful."
"Very helpful," Hendricks replied. "Her knowledge of the systems is impressive. I was surprised to see her in this... arrangement."
Mark's smile was thin and controlled. "Ms. Shaw volunteered for a new position that emphasizes transparency and accessibility. We've found it improves departmental accountability."
"I see. And the kneeling?"
"A posture of attention. It allows her to focus entirely on the questions being asked, without the distraction of personal comfort. We've found it produces more accurate responses."
Hendricks nodded slowly, his eyes moving from Mark to Erin and back. "Innovative."
"We think so."
Mark walked toward her desk, his footsteps deliberate. He stopped in front of her, close enough that she could smell his cologne, could see the fine weave of his suit jacket. He did not look down at her. He addressed the room instead.
"Ms. Shaw, the auditors have a few more questions about the Q1 projections. I'll be observing from my office. You'll answer as we've practiced."
"Yes, sir."
He walked away, and the plug activated.
This time the vibration was different. Stronger. More insistent. It started low and built slowly, a wave of sensation that pressed against her from the inside. The plug throbbed against her front wall, the silicone curve designed to target the swollen tissue that made her gasp no matter how many times she felt it. Erin kept her hands on her thighs, her spine straight, her face neutral. But the stimulation was relentless, building and building without reaching a peak, a constant edge that made her breath come shorter and her skin flush with heat.
She could feel herself growing wetter, her channel clenching around the plug in involuntary pulses. The vibration seemed to echo through her entire pelvis, resonating against her clit even though the plug was buried deep inside her. Her body was trembling, every muscle tensed against the building wave, but she held her position. She held her stillness.
Hendricks approached with his tablet. "Ms. Shaw, I need clarification on the Q1 compliance projections. The numbers show a significant deviation from the previous year's trends."
Erin opened her mouth to answer, but the vibration surged, stealing her words for a moment. The plug pulsed hard against her front wall, pressing against the spot that made stars bloom behind her eyes. She swallowed, composed herself, and spoke. "The deviation reflects changes in regulatory requirements that took effect in January. We adjusted our projections to account for the new reporting standards."
Her voice was steady, but she could hear the strain beneath it. The vibration was constant now, a deep thrumming that seemed to echo through her entire body. She could feel moisture gathering between her thighs, could feel the plug sliding against her slickened walls as her body clenched and released around it. Each pulse sent a fresh wave of heat through her core, her swollen tissues gripping the silicone curve like a lover.
Hendricks made a note. "And the implementation timeline? How long did it take to adjust?"
"Approximately six weeks. The transition was completed by mid-February."
The vibration intensified, pressing against a spot inside her that made her hips want to shift, that made her want to press her thighs together and ride the sensation. The plug was throbbing in a rhythm now, each pulse a deliberate stroke against her most sensitive tissue. She could feel her orgasm building, a slow inevitable wave that started deep in her core and spread outward through her limbs. She stayed still. She stayed perfect. She would not come without permission.
"Were there any compliance gaps during the transition period?"
"No. We maintained continuous coverage through manual processes until the automated system was fully operational."
The plug surged again, a long sustained pulse that pressed against her front wall and held, the vibration resonating through her swollen tissues like a bell. She could feel herself right at the edge, her body trembling on the precipice, her channel clenching around the plug in desperate pulses. Just a little more. Just a fraction more and she would fall over. But the vibration held steady, not pushing her over, just keeping her there, suspended in the agony of almost.
Hendricks looked up from his tablet, his eyes meeting hers. She could see something in his gaze, a flicker of recognition. He knew. He could see the flush on her cheeks, the slight tremor in her hands, the way her breath came just a little too fast. He could see the glassy sheen in her eyes, the way her lips were parted, the way her chest rose and fell with each controlled breath. But he did not comment. He simply nodded and made another note.
"Thank you, Ms. Shaw. That's all for now."
He turned and walked back to his team. The vibration stopped.
Erin sagged forward, her forehead nearly touching the carpet before she caught herself. Her body was screaming for release, every nerve ending raw and exposed, her channel still clenching around the plug in futile pulses. She could feel her own wetness on her thighs, could feel the way her body had betrayed her despite her perfect composure. She straightened, rearranged her posture, and took a long slow breath. The plug was still inside her, still present, but the active stimulation had ceased. She had survived another round. But her body was a live wire, thrumming with denied pleasure, every cell crying out for the release that had been withheld.
The audit concluded shortly after five. The team packed their files and tablets, shook hands with Mark and the department heads, and filed toward the elevators. Hendricks paused at the door, looking back at Erin one last time. She was still kneeling at her desk, still in position, waiting for dismissal.
He did not say anything. He just looked at her for a long moment, then stepped into the elevator and disappeared.
The floor emptied slowly. Associates gathered their things and headed home, their conversations fading into the evening quiet. Jordan passed her desk, gave her a small nod, and continued to the exit.
Twenty minutes later, her phone buzzed. A message from Mark.
"You can stand. Good work today."
Erin rose from the floor, her legs aching, her body humming with unspent tension. She stood at her desk, looking out at the empty floor, the glass walls reflecting the dimming light of the city beyond. Her thighs were slick with her own arousal, her channel still throbbing around the plug, her body still trembling on the edge of a release that had not come.
She had done it. She had performed her role perfectly, had answered every question, had maintained her composure through every test. The auditors had seen her kneeling, had seen her submission, and had accepted it as part of the new order.
She was the compliance desk now. Visible, accessible, obedient. And for the first time since she had taken this position, she realized that she did not want to go back.
Document Service
The files sat in a neat stack on the corner of Avery's desk. Jordan had placed them there that morning with a single sentence of instruction.
"Cole wants these delivered to the conference room by noon. He said you'd know how."
Avery had nodded. She knew exactly what that meant. The compliance desk had taught her stillness. The audit had taught her kneeling. Now she would learn movement.
She spent the morning finishing her data entry, her fingers moving across the keyboard with practiced efficiency. The plug inside her was a constant presence, a reminder that she was never truly alone in her body. But today there was no remote control, no unexpected vibrations. Just the waiting. Just the slow, deliberate ache of anticipation coiling in her belly.
When the morning had nearly exhausted itself, she stood and removed her blazer. The motion felt deliberate, ceremonial. She folded it and placed it in her bottom drawer. Then she sat back down and waited for the signal.
It came moments later when Jordan walked past her desk and said "Now" without breaking stride.
Avery slipped off her heels first. The carpet felt strange against her stockings, a texture she had never really noticed from her usual height. She placed the shoes side by side under her desk. Then she lowered herself.
The transition from seated to all fours took only seconds but felt like an eternity. Her palms pressed into the carpet. Her knees found their place. The skirt rode up but she had expected that. She had worn the fuller cut today specifically for this. The cool air touched the backs of her thighs, a gentle reminder of how much skin was exposed in this position.
The stack of files sat at eye level now, close to the ground. She reached out and pulled them toward her. The weight felt substantial in her hands, important. She tucked them against her chest and began to move.
The first few steps were the hardest. Her body resisted the motion, years of professional posture screaming at her to stand up. But she kept going, one hand in front of the other, knees following, the carpet fibers brushing against her palms. Each movement shifted the plug inside her, a slow, maddening rhythm that matched her crawl.
The glass walls of the legal floor stretched above her, reflecting the light. She could see people walking between the desks, their shoes and lower legs entering her field of vision. No one stopped. No one stared. They just continued their work as if a woman crawling through the office with a stack of files against her chest was perfectly normal.
That was the part that got to her. The normalcy of it.
She passed Sarah's desk and saw the younger woman's feet shift slightly, turning away. Sarah was giving her privacy, or at least the illusion of it. The gesture was kind and also devastating. It meant Sarah knew exactly what was happening. It meant everyone knew.
Avery kept crawling.
The corridor to the conference room stretched ahead of her, a long expanse of gray carpet broken by the occasional door frame. She moved steadily, her pace even, her breath controlled. The files pressed against her ribs, warm from her body heat. Between her legs, the friction of each step built a slow heat that she could not ignore. Her thighs trembled with something beyond effort.
Her body ached from the unfamiliar position. Her palms were growing warm. But there was something else too, something that had been building since she first lowered herself to the floor. A quiet sense of rightness that settled into her bones like water finding its level.
This was what she had agreed to. This was what she had earned through her mistake. Every crawl, every moment of exposure, every second of humiliation was penance and purpose combined. And beneath all of that, threading through the shame and the ache, was a wet heat that she could not deny. Her body knew what it was for now.
She reached the conference room door and paused. It was slightly ajar. She could hear Cole's voice inside, speaking on the phone. She waited, her knees pressed into the carpet, her head bowed. The position pressed the plug deeper, a constant, insistent pressure that made her breath catch.
The call ended.
"Come in," he said.
She pushed the door open with her head and crawled inside. The conference table stretched before her, long and polished, reflecting the ceiling lights. Cole sat at the far end, a tablet in his hand, watching her approach.
She crawled the length of the table, stopping beside his chair. She placed the files on the table in front of him, her hands trembling slightly. In this position, she could see the polish of his shoes, the sharp crease of his trousers, the way his hand rested on his thigh with casual authority.
"Good," he said.
That single word sent warmth through her chest and lower, pooling between her thighs where the ache had been building since she left her desk. She remained in position, her knees on the carpet, her hands now resting on her thighs. She waited.
Cole opened the first file and began reading. The minutes stretched. She did not move. She barely breathed. She could smell him from here, something clean and masculine that made her stomach tighten. She could feel her own arousal slick against the silk of her underwear, a wet warmth that she could not hide from herself.
He read through several files before setting them aside. Then he looked down at her.
"You did well. The delivery was clean. No hesitation."
She felt tears prick at her eyes and blinked them away. "Thank you."
"Now you wait until I dismiss you."
She nodded once, firmly, and returned her gaze to the floor.
The conference room was quiet. The air conditioning hummed above her. The carpet was soft beneath her knees. She could feel the weight of the files she had delivered still sitting on the table, evidence of her service. She could also feel the dampness spreading, the way her body had responded to the submission with a hunger that embarrassed her.
Cole typed on his tablet for a while. Then he stood and walked to the window, his back to her. She watched his silhouette against the glass, the broad shoulders, the controlled posture. She imagined what it would feel like if he touched her now, if he reached down and tested the wetness she knew he would find.
"You're learning," he said. "That's good. But there's always more to learn."
She stayed silent, waiting.
He turned and looked at her, his eyes traveling down her body to where her skirt had ridden up, exposing the tops of her stockings and the bare skin above them. She felt his gaze like a physical touch, sliding up the backs of her thighs. "Your position needs work. You're leaning to one side. Center yourself."
She adjusted immediately, feeling the correction settle into her spine. The movement shifted the plug again and she bit her lip against the sound that wanted to escape.
"Better."
He walked back to his chair and sat down. He picked up another file.
She remained on her knees, still and silent, the ache in her thighs nothing compared to the ache between them. She could feel her pulse in her clit, a steady throb that matched her heartbeat. Each breath pressed her nipples against the silk of her blouse, a friction that kept her constantly aware of how aroused she was. How wet. How desperately she wanted something she could not name.
He did not touch her. He did not acknowledge the wetness he surely knew was there. He simply worked, and she simply waited, and the silence between them grew heavy with all the things unsaid.
When he finally spoke again, his voice was low and controlled.
"You can go back to your desk now."
She began to rise, but he stopped her.
"Crawl."
The word settled over her like a hand on the back of her neck. She lowered herself again, her body responding before her mind could catch up. She could feel her underwear clinging to her, soaked through, and she knew that when she arrived back at her desk, she would sit in that wetness for the rest of the afternoon. A reminder of what she had become. What she was learning to be.
When she crawled back to her desk, her body remembered every inch of the path. The carpet fibers against her palms. The sway of her hips with each movement. The way her body had betrayed her with its arousal. And she knew it would remember tomorrow too. And the day after that. And every day until Cole decided she had learned what she needed to learn.
After-Hours Remediation
The office had emptied out by seven. Erin heard the last of the cleaning crew leave, their vacuum cleaner trailing off into silence somewhere near the elevator bank. She sat at her desk, the glow of her monitor painting her face blue, and waited.
She hadn't been told to wait. Not explicitly. But she knew.
Four days. Four days since the crawling. Four days since she'd handed Mark those documents with her teeth and felt the carpet burn into her knees. Four days of walking through the office with the plug inside her, feeling it shift with every step, a constant secret weight that reminded her exactly what she was becoming. The looks from her coworkers had changed. Marcus from accounting held doors for her now, his eyes drifting down with a hunger she recognized. Bethany in HR had stopped asking if she was okay. They knew something had shifted, even if they couldn't name it.
Erin's phone buzzed at seven-fifteen.
Mark: Conference room. Now.
She stood. Her heels clicked against the tile, each step sending a pulse through her. The main conference room was at the end of the hall, a glass-walled space that jutted out from the building's face like a lantern. From her desk, she could see the city lights reflected in its floor-to-ceiling windows. She'd sat in that room dozens of times for meetings, presentations, quarterly reviews. She'd never been in it alone with Mark.
The door was already open.
Mark stood at the far end, silhouetted against the window. The city sprawled behind him, a grid of amber and white. He'd loosened his tie. His sleeves were rolled to the elbow. Files were spread across the main table, a long polished oak surface that could seat twenty.
"Close the door," he said without turning.
Erin stepped inside. The click of the latch seemed to echo. The conference room had its own climate, cooler than the rest of the floor, and she felt goosebumps rise along her arms. She stood at attention, hands clasped in front of her, the way he'd trained her.
"You stayed," Mark said. He turned now, and the city lights caught the edge of his jaw. "Good."
"Yes, sir."
"You've done well this week." He walked along the side of the table, trailing his fingers across the wood. "Your protocol has been flawless. Your compliance has been noted."
"Thank you, sir."
"But there's a matter that needs remediation." He stopped at the head of the table. "Do you know what it is?"
Erin's throat tightened. She thought back through the week, searching for a misstep. The crawling. The plug. The way she'd answered his questions during the Wednesday meeting, her voice steady even though the remote toy buzzed against her clit. She couldn't find the error.
"No, sir."
"Your hesitation." He said it simply. "Tuesday. When I told you to remove your blouse in my office. You paused for three seconds before obeying."
Three seconds. He'd counted.
"I'm sorry, sir."
"I know you are." He gestured to the window. "Come here."
Erin walked to him, her heels silent on the carpet. When she reached his side, he placed his hand on the back of her neck. His grip was warm, firm. He guided her to face the glass.
"Look at them," he said.
The city was laid out below, thirty floors down. Cars crawled through the streets. Lights blinked on rooftops. In the building across the way, she could see offices still lit, tiny figures moving behind glass.
"All those people," Mark said. "Working late. Living their lives. They have no idea what you are now. Do they?"
"No, sir."
"They see a professional woman. Competent. Put together." His hand slid from her neck to her shoulder, then down her arm. "They don't know that you're wet right now."
She was. She had been since the text.
"They don't know that you have a plug inside you. That you put it in every morning because I told you to. That you've been wearing it for weeks." His fingers reached her wrist. "They don't know that you spent Tuesday afternoon on your knees in my office with your blouse on the floor."
Erin's breath fogged the glass.
"Unbutton your shirt," he said.
She didn't hesitate. Not this time. Her fingers moved to the top button, then the next, then the next. She worked down the row, her reflection in the glass watching her undress. The city watched too, or it felt like it did. She slipped the blouse off her shoulders and let it fall.
"Skirt."
The zipper was in the back. She reached for it, pulled it down, and stepped out of the fabric. It pooled at her feet. She stood in her bra, panties, and heels, the plug a familiar pressure inside her.
"Better." Mark walked a slow circle around her. "You're learning."
"Yes, sir."
"The bra."
She unclasped it, held it against her chest for a moment, then let it drop. Her nipples hardened in the cool air. Mark's gaze moved over her, appraising.
"Panties."
Erin pushed them down. She stepped out of them and stood naked except for her heels, facing the window, the city spread out below her. She felt exposed in a way that went beyond skin. Every floor of every building across the street was a potential eye. Someone could see her. Someone probably was.
"Hands on the table."
She turned and bent over the main conference table. The wood was cool and smooth against her palms. She spread her fingers, steadying herself. The surface stretched out before her, littered with files and documents. She was bent over quarterly reports and budget projections.
Mark moved behind her. She heard him open his belt, then the zipper of his pants. He didn't rush. He took his time, and she listened to each sound, her body responding before he touched her. She felt the heat of him before she felt his hand. He placed it on the small of her back, pressing her flat against the wood.
"You're going to take what I give you," he said. "You're going to be quiet. And you're going to thank me when I'm done."
"Yes, sir."
He pulled the plug out slowly. She gasped at the sudden emptiness, the release of pressure. He set it on the table beside her hand, a small chrome shape on the polished oak. Then she felt him, the broad head of his cock pressing where the plug had been.
He didn't warn her. He pushed in.
Erin's mouth opened, but she made no sound. The stretch was intense, a slow filling that seemed to go on and on. He gripped her hips and sank deeper, inch by inch, until he was fully inside her. She could feel his breath on the back of her neck.
"Good," he murmured. "Very good."
He began to move. Slow, deliberate thrusts that rocked her against the table. The files shifted. A pen rolled off the edge and clattered to the floor. Mark's rhythm was unhurried, almost lazy. He wasn't chasing his own pleasure. He was claiming her, marking the space inside her as his.
Erin stared at the wood grain beneath her hands. She could see her own breath fogging the surface. The conference room was silent except for the soft sound of their bodies meeting, the whisper of skin on skin. The city hummed beyond the glass, oblivious.
"You've improved," Mark said. His voice was steady, conversational. "Your obedience is more natural now. You don't flinch when I touch you."
"Thank you, sir."
"You're starting to understand what this is." He thrust deeper, and she gripped the table edge. "It's not about what I take from you. It's about what you give."
She wanted to say yes, to agree, but the words caught in her throat. He was so deep inside her that she could feel him in her stomach. He pulled back until only the tip remained, then sank in again, a slow, torturous slide that made her toes curl inside her heels.
Then he withdrew completely.
Erin heard herself whimper. The loss was immediate, shocking. She felt empty, open, exposed.
"Over there." Mark pointed to a smaller table against the wall, a round side table usually used for coffee service. "Face the window."
Erin walked to it on unsteady legs. She bent over the smaller surface, her hands gripping the edge. This table was lower, forcing her to arch her back more dramatically. The angle was different, and when Mark entered her again, the sensation shifted. She felt him in a new place, a new depth.
"Look at the window," he said.
She raised her eyes. The glass reflected the room behind her. She could see Mark's face, his expression calm and controlled, his hips moving in a steady rhythm. She could see herself, bent over the table, her breasts swaying with each thrust, her mouth open. And beyond the reflection, the city.
"Anyone could see you," Mark said. He picked up his pace, each thrust pushing her harder against the table. "Anyone in that building across the street. They could look over and see you. Naked. Bent over. Being used."
Erin's breath came in short gasps. The shame should have burned, but it didn't. It fed something inside her, something that had been growing for weeks. She was on display. She was his.
"Do you want them to see?" he asked.
"I want you to see, sir."
She felt his grip tighten on her hips. A small sound escaped him, the first crack in his composure. It sent a thrill through her.
He pulled out again. "The window."
Erin stood. Her legs were shaking. She walked to the floor-to-ceiling glass and stood before it, the city thirty floors below. Mark came up behind her. He pressed her forward until her breasts touched the glass. It was cold, shockingly cold, and her nipples tightened against it. He pushed her hands up, placing her palms flat against the window. She was spread against the glass like a display.
"Don't move."
He entered her from behind. The angle was different again, more upright. She could feel every inch of him, and the pressure of the glass against her front made the sensation even more intense. She looked down at the street. The cars were tiny, moving in patterns she couldn't decipher. Someone down there was going home, going to dinner, going about their life. They had no idea that thirty floors above them, a woman was being fucked against a window.
Mark's hand came up to her throat. Not squeezing, just resting there, a collar of fingers. His other hand slid around her hip, finding her clit. He began to circle it, slow and deliberate, matching the rhythm of his thrusts.
Erin's hips jerked. She hadn't expected the touch. The pleasure was immediate, intense, building on the weeks of denial, the days of the plug, the hours of anticipation.
"Not yet," Mark said. "You don't come until I say."
"Yes, sir." Her voice was a whisper.
He fucked her against the glass, slow and deep. The city watched. She watched her own reflection, her face flushed, her eyes glazed. She looked different. She looked like someone she didn't recognize.
"You're mine," Mark said. "This body is mine. This cunt is mine. This pleasure is mine."
"Yes, sir. Yours."
His thrusts quickened. His fingers moved faster on her clit. Erin's thighs trembled. She pressed her forehead against the glass, her breath fogging it in rapid bursts. She could feel him getting close, his rhythm losing its precision, his breath coming shorter against her ear.
"Come," he said.
The word broke something inside her. The orgasm crashed through her, a wave that started at her clit and radiated outward, pulling her muscles tight, making her gasp and buck against him. She felt herself clench around his cock, and she heard him groan, the first real sound of pleasure she'd ever heard from him.
He came inside her. She felt the pulse of it, the heat, the way he buried himself to the hilt and held there, his hand tightening on her throat. His hips jerked twice, three times, and then he was still.
They stayed like that for a long moment, pressed against the glass, the city spread out below them. Erin could feel his heart beating against her back. Her own heart was pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears.
Then Mark stepped back. The sudden absence of his body left her cold. She stayed against the glass, not sure if she was allowed to move.
"Get dressed," he said. His voice was composed again, as if nothing had happened. "Clean yourself up. I'll see you tomorrow."
Erin turned. He was already tucking his shirt back into his pants, adjusting his belt. He didn't look at her. He gathered the files from the main table, tapping them into a neat stack.
"Yes, sir."
She collected her clothes from the floor. Her hands were steady now. She dressed quickly, efficiently, the way she'd learned to. The plug still sat on the conference table. She picked it up and slipped it into her purse.
When she turned back, Mark was at the door. He paused.
Then he was gone.
Erin stood alone in the conference room. The city lights hummed beyond the glass. She could feel his warmth sliding down her thigh, a reminder of what had just happened. She looked at her reflection in the window, fully dressed again, professional again.
She didn't look different. But she was.
She picked up her purse and walked out, her heels clicking in the empty office. The elevator took her down thirty floors, and when she stepped outside, the night air hit her face. She walked to the curb and raised her hand for a cab.
Tomorrow, she'd put the plug in again. Tomorrow, she'd sit at her desk and answer emails and attend meetings. Tomorrow, she'd wait for his text.
The cab pulled up. She got in.
She didn't look back at the building. She didn't need to. She could still feel him inside her, a ghost of pressure and heat. She could still feel the glass against her nipples, cold and unforgiving.
She was his. And for the first time, that truth didn't frighten her.
It felt like coming home.
Ritual Expansion
The morning light filtered through the glass walls of the legal floor as Erin settled into her raised desk. The plug was already in place, a familiar fullness now. She adjusted her posture, back straight, hands resting on the polished surface. Jordan had arrived early, standing by the filing cabinets with a tablet.
Mark emerged from his office just before the hour. He walked slowly, deliberately, pausing at her desk. His gaze swept over her, taking in the neat bun, the crisp white blouse, the dark skirt. Everything in order.
"Good morning, Erin."
"Good morning, Mr. Brennan."
He set a single sheet of paper on her desk. "New protocols. Read them out loud."
Her fingers trembled slightly as she picked up the paper. The familiar stillness settled over her. She began to read.
"Effective immediately, I will request permission for every action. Standing, sitting, speaking, remaining silent. All require verbal approval."
She paused. The words felt heavy, final.
"Continue," Mark said.
"I will state my status aloud each hour. I will say 'I am the compliance example' and wait for acknowledgment before returning to work."
Her throat tightened. This was different. More exposed.
"During the workday, I will attend scheduled edging sessions at my desk. These sessions will last fifteen minutes each. I will not reach climax without explicit permission."
Her breath caught. Edging. Here. At her desk. In front of everyone.
"Do you understand these protocols, Erin?"
"Yes, Mr. Brennan."
"Then demonstrate. Ask permission to continue reading."
Her voice came out steady. "May I continue reading the protocol, Mr. Brennan?"
"You may."
She finished the list. Three edging sessions daily. The first mid-morning, the second in early afternoon, the third late in the day. Each session would be monitored by Jordan or Mark. She would remain at her desk, hands visible, eyes forward.
The first session came mid-morning.
Jordan approached her desk a few minutes ahead of time. "Prepare for your session, Erin. You have five minutes."
She took a slow breath. Her body already knew what was coming. The plug was a constant reminder, but now it would be activated. She would have to stay still, stay quiet, while the waves built and built without release.
At the appointed time, Mark walked past her desk. He didn't stop. He just pressed a button on his phone.
The plug hummed to life.
Erin's hands gripped the edge of her desk. She forced her expression to remain neutral. Colleagues walked by, some glancing, most ignoring her. She was just part of the furniture now.
The vibration was low, steady. It built slowly, teasing. She focused on her breathing, in through her nose, out through her mouth. Her thighs pressed together under the desk.
Jordan sat at the monitoring station, watching her. He made a note on his tablet.
She was supposed to be working. Her screen showed a spreadsheet of departmental compliance metrics. The numbers blurred as the sensation grew.
Her hips wanted to move, to grind against the chair, to find friction. But she remained still. That was the rule.
After several minutes, the vibration increased. A deeper, more insistent hum. Her breath came faster. She felt heat pooling in her belly, spreading through her limbs. Her nipples hardened against the silk of her blouse, pressing visible peaks through the fabric. She became aware of her own wetness, the slick heat between her thighs, the way her body was opening without her permission.
The plug pulsed against the sensitive walls inside her, finding that spot, the one that made her toes curl in her heels. She bit the inside of her cheek. The pleasure was building in waves now, each one cresting higher than the last. She could feel herself getting close, that familiar tightening, that desperate climb toward something she wouldn't be allowed to reach.
Her clit throbbed in sympathy, swollen and aching, untouched and desperate. The plug's vibrations traveled through her, radiating outward, making every nerve ending feel raw and alive. She squeezed her thighs together harder, seeking any relief, but that only made it worse. The pressure built inside her, a tight coil winding and winding.
"Status," Mark said from somewhere behind her.
Her voice was tight. "I am the compliance example."
"Noted. Continue."
The vibration didn't stop. It stayed at that peak, just below the threshold. She hovered there, suspended, aching. Her body trembled with the effort of holding back. Sweat prickled at her hairline. Her blouse felt too tight. Every breath made the silk drag across her sensitive nipples, a small torture she couldn't escape.
The vibration cut off. She slumped slightly, gasping, before catching herself and straightening.
Jordan was already approaching. "Session complete. Resume work."
She nodded, not trusting her voice. Her body was still buzzing, still hungry. The day stretched ahead.
Later, she requested permission to use the restroom. Mark granted it. When she returned, she found a note on her desk: "Your afternoon session has been moved earlier. Be ready."
She was ready. She was always ready now.
The second session began. This time, Mark stood by her desk. He didn't speak. He just watched.
The plug started low and built faster than before. She was still sensitive from the morning. Her body responded immediately, heat flooding her, that slick wetness returning between her thighs. She could feel it this time, her own arousal soaking into her underwear, the shameful warmth of it.
"Tell me what you are," Mark said.
She looked up at him, her eyes wide. "I am the compliance example."
"Louder."
"I am the compliance example."
"Good. Now tell me what you want."
Her voice cracked. "I want to be good. I want to follow the rules."
The vibration increased. She gasped, her hips twitching before she caught herself. The plug was hitting that spot again, over and over, relentless. She could feel her orgasm building, that sweet pressure coiling tighter and tighter in her core. Her inner walls clenched around the plug, greedy for more even as her mind screamed at her to maintain control.
"You want to come, don't you?"
"Yes, Mr. Brennan."
"But you won't. Not until I say. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Mr. Brennan."
The next several minutes were a blur of sensation and control. The plug cycled through patterns, teasing her with unpredictable rhythms. A slow build, then a sudden spike that made her gasp. A steady thrum that made her thighs shake. Then a rapid pulse that had her teetering on the very edge, her body coiled so tight she thought she might shatter.
She recited her status three more times. Each time, her voice grew steadier, more certain. She was learning to exist in this space, between need and obedience. The words became an anchor, something to hold onto while the pleasure threatened to sweep her away.
Her panties were soaked. She could smell her own arousal, musky and unmistakable. A colleague walked past and she wondered if they could smell it too. The humiliation burned through her, mixing with the pleasure, making it sharper, more intense.
At the end of the session, he left without a word. She was trembling, her thighs wet, her mind blank.
The final session was different. This time, Jordan handled it. He sat beside her desk, his voice low.
"Open your mouth."
She did. He placed a small object on her tongue. A mint. The cool sharpness distracted her.
"The plug will activate in thirty seconds. You will not react. You will keep the mint on your tongue until it dissolves. Do you understand?"
She nodded, mouth closed.
The vibration started. It was rhythmic, pulsing. Each wave brought her closer. The coolness of the mint spread through her mouth, a sharp contrast to the heat building between her legs. She concentrated on that coolness, on not swallowing too fast, on keeping her expression blank while her body screamed for release.
Jordan watched her throat. "Good. You're learning."
The pulses grew stronger, more insistent. Her body was already primed from the earlier sessions, wound tight and desperate. Every nerve ending felt exposed. The plug massaged her from the inside, finding every sensitive spot, exploiting every weakness. She could feel her orgasm hovering just out of reach, a wave about to break that she wasn't allowed to let break.
She held on. The mint dissolved slowly. The pulses continued. She was right there, right at the edge, her body shaking with the effort of not coming. And then the mint was gone, and the vibration stopped.
Jordan stood. "Session complete. Report to Mr. Brennan's office at the end of the day."
She did. She knocked, entered, stood before his desk.
"Kneel."
She knelt, her skirt pooling around her. He came around the desk, stood in front of her. She could see the outline of his cock through his trousers, hard and thick. He was aroused by this. By her. By her obedience. The knowledge sent a fresh wave of heat through her already overstimulated body.
"Today was your first day of scheduled edging. How do you feel?"
Her voice was soft. "Empty. Needy."
"Good. That's the goal. You're learning to exist in the space between desire and fulfillment. That's where your purpose lives."
She looked up at him. "I understand."
"From now on, every day will include these sessions. You will learn to work, to speak, to function while aroused. You will learn to need without taking. That is the essence of compliance."
"Yes, Mr. Brennan."
He reached down, cupped her chin. His thumb traced her lower lip. She parted her lips instinctively, wanting more contact, any contact. He smiled slightly.
"You're doing well, Erin. Better than I expected. But we're just beginning."
She felt a surge of something warm. Pride. Gratitude. It didn't matter. She was his example. She was perfect.
He released her. "Return to your desk. Tomorrow, the protocols expand further."
She rose, smoothed her skirt, walked back to her desk. The floor was quiet, most people gone for the day. She sat down, the plug still a presence, her body still humming with unfulfilled need.
She set a notepad on her desk. Tomorrow, she would write her status hourly. She would request permission for every action. She would attend her edging sessions and learn to hover at the edge without falling.
She was the compliance example.
And for the first time, she believed it.
Department Demonstration
The conference room on the fourth floor had never felt so small. Erin knelt on the polished concrete floor, her knees pressed into a thin mat that Mark had positioned there earlier that morning. She was placed at the exact center of the room, surrounded by empty chairs that would soon be filled by her colleagues.
Her hands rested palms up on her thighs. Her back was straight. Her eyes were fixed on a point on the far wall where the pale gray paint met the white ceiling. She had been holding this position for what felt like a long time, and her body had settled into the stillness that Mark had trained into her over the past weeks.
The door opened. Jordan entered first, carrying a tablet and a folder. They moved to the side of the room and took a seat near the back, their eyes scanning the space before settling on Erin. There was no surprise in their expression. They had been part of the preparation.
Mark followed a moment later. He walked to the front of the room and set down a leather portfolio. He didn't look at Erin, but she felt his presence like a pressure change in the air. He adjusted the position of the chairs slightly, creating a clear sightline from every seat to where she knelt.
"You'll remain in position until I instruct otherwise," Mark said. His voice was calm, the same tone he used for contract review. "You won't speak unless spoken to. You won't move unless directed. You're going to be an example of what compliance looks like."
"Yes, Mark," Erin said. Her voice was steady. She had practiced this.
The team began to arrive in pairs and small groups. Erin heard the door open and close, heard the shuffle of feet, the murmur of voices that cut off as they saw her. She kept her eyes on the wall, her hands on her thighs, her breathing slow and even.
She recognized the footsteps of some of them. Mark from contracts, who sat to her left. Priya from legal research, who took a seat near the front. David from corporate governance, who paused in the doorway and said nothing at all.
The chairs filled. The room grew quiet. Erin counted the breaths around her and kept her focus on the wall.
Mark waited until the last person had settled. Then he walked to the front of the room and stood beside a small table that had been set up with a pitcher of water and a glass. He remained standing. He left the portfolio closed.
"Thank you all for coming," he said. "I've called this meeting to address a matter of departmental importance."
Erin felt the weight of every gaze in the room. She held herself still.
"Three weeks ago, an error was discovered in our compliance records. It was a small oversight. A single document that had not been properly filed. But it represented a breach in the system that we rely on to function."
He paused. The room was silent.
"Ms. Shaw discovered this error herself. She reported it to me directly. She accepted full responsibility for the oversight and for the remediation process."
Erin felt a flush of warmth at the mention of her name. It was the first time she had been acknowledged by her professional title in weeks. She held the feeling for a moment and then let it pass.
"The remediation process has been thorough," Mark continued. "Ms. Shaw has demonstrated a level of commitment to compliance that I believe should serve as a model for this entire department."
He turned to face her directly. "Ms. Shaw. Please rise and come to the front."
Erin rose from the kneeling position slowly, her muscles protesting after the long stillness. She walked to the front of the room and stopped beside Mark. She kept her eyes on him rather than the team.
"Remove your jacket," Mark said.
Erin unbuttoned the single button at her waist and shrugged off the blazer. She folded it neatly and held it in her hands.
"Place it on the table."
She did.
"Now your blouse."
Erin reached for the buttons at her collar. Her fingers moved with practiced efficiency. She undid each button from top to bottom and then pulled the blouse from her shoulders. She folded it and placed it beside the jacket.
She stood in her bra and skirt. The air in the room was cool against her skin. She kept her arms at her sides. Her gaze stayed forward.
"Your skirt."
Erin unfastened the side zipper and let the skirt fall to the floor. She stepped out of it and folded it. She placed it on the pile.
She stood in her bra, her panties, her stockings, and her heels. The team was silent. She could feel their eyes on her body, on the marks that Mark had left on her skin over the past weeks. The bruises on her hips. The red lines on her thighs. The way her nipples pressed against the thin fabric of her bra.
Mark walked around her. He stopped behind her and reached for the clasp of her bra. He unfastened it with a single motion and pulled the straps down her arms. She let the bra fall forward and then caught it before it dropped. She folded it and placed it on the pile.
She was bare from the waist up now. Her breasts were full and heavy, her nipples tight in the cool air. She kept her hands at her sides.
Mark touched her shoulder. "Turn and face the team."
Erin turned. She faced her colleagues. She saw Mark's eyes on her chest. She saw Priya's hand covering her mouth. She saw David's expression, unreadable.
"Your panties," Mark said.
Erin hooked her thumbs into the waistband and pushed them down. She stepped out of them and bent to pick them up. She folded them and added them to the pile.
She was naked now except for her stockings and heels. The plug inside her was a constant presence, a reminder of her place. She had been wearing it since that morning. She had not been allowed to remove it.
"Kneel," Mark said.
Erin lowered herself to her knees on the concrete floor. The surface was cold and hard against her skin. She placed her hands on her thighs, palms up, and waited.
Mark walked to the table and picked up the glass of water. He took a sip and set it down. Then he walked back to stand in front of her.
"The demonstration will proceed as follows," he said. "You're going to service me in front of the team. You won't stop until I tell you to. You won't rush. You won't hold back. You're going to be an example of perfect compliance."
"Yes, Mark," Erin said.
He unfastened his belt. He unzipped his trousers. He pulled himself free, already hard, and stepped closer to her. She could see the weight of him, the way he thickened as he stood before her. The head was flushed and smooth, a bead of moisture gathering at the tip.
"Open your mouth."
Erin parted her lips. She looked up at him as he guided himself inside her. The taste of him was familiar now, salt and skin and the faint musk that clung to him. She closed her lips around him and began to move.
The room was silent. She could hear the sound of her own breathing, the wet sound of her mouth working, the soft creak of Mark's belt as he shifted his weight. She kept her eyes on his face.
He placed a hand on the back of her head. Not pushing. Just resting there. A reminder.
"You've all seen the results of Ms. Shaw's compliance," Mark said. His voice was steady, as if he were discussing quarterly reports. "She's become an example of what happens when an employee fully embraces the standards of this department."
Erin kept moving. She took him deeper, felt him press against the back of her throat. She relaxed into it, as she had been trained to do. Her tongue traced the underside of him, feeling the ridge and the vein that ran beneath it. She pulled back slowly, letting her lips drag along his length, then took him in again. The rhythm was deliberate. Measured. Each stroke a demonstration of what she had learned.
She could feel the wetness gathering between her own thighs. The plug shifted inside her as she moved, pressing against the sensitive place that made her breath catch. She focused on her task, on the weight of him in her mouth, the way his fingers tightened slightly in her hair.
"There will be no tolerance for errors going forward," Mark continued. "Anyone who fails to meet the standards will be subject to the same remediation process. I expect each of you to take this example seriously."
Erin heard a chair creak. Someone shifted in their seat. She kept her focus on Mark.
She swirled her tongue around the head, tasting the salt that gathered there. She took him deep again, feeling her throat open around him. The muscles in her jaw ached, but she held the position. She breathed through her nose, slow and controlled, the way he had taught her. She could feel every inch of him, the way he pulsed against her tongue.
Mark's hand tightened on her head. "Faster," he said.
She increased her pace. She focused on the rhythm, on the pressure of his hand, on the sound of his breathing. She felt her own arousal building, a warmth spreading through her lower belly, a throb between her legs that matched the pace of her mouth. Her nipples were hard, aching in the cool air. She wanted to touch herself, but she kept her hands on her thighs.
"Look at her," Mark said. "Look at how still she is. How focused. She doesn't think about her own comfort. She doesn't think about her own pleasure. She thinks only about compliance."
Erin felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. She blinked them back. She kept moving. She took him to the root, held there, felt him twitch against the back of her throat. She pulled back and did it again. Her lips were swollen, her chin wet. She could smell him now, the musk of his arousal mixing with the clean scent of the conference room.
She heard someone's breathing change. One of her colleagues, watching. She didn't look.
Mark's hips moved slightly, a small thrust that pressed him deeper. His hand guided her, setting the pace. She followed. She let him control the depth, the speed. She was a vessel for his use, a tool for the demonstration. The thought sent a pulse of heat through her.
She could feel him getting closer. The way his thighs tensed. The way his breathing grew shallow. The way his grip on her hair tightened. She prepared herself, relaxing her throat, opening wider.
"Look at her," Mark said again. His voice was tighter now, strained at the edges. "This is what dedication looks like. This is what I expect from every member of this department."
Erin's mouth was full of him. She could feel the pulse of him against her tongue, the way he thickened as he neared the edge. She moaned softly around him, unable to stop herself. The sound was muffled, swallowed by the act. She felt Mark's hand tighten in response.
His breathing changed. His hand tightened again. "Swallow," he said.
She felt him pulse against her tongue. The first rush was warm and thick, coating the back of her throat. She swallowed, once, twice, again. She kept moving, milking him with her lips and tongue, taking everything he gave her. She could feel the muscles of his abdomen clenching as he spent himself. She swallowed again, her throat working around him.
She kept her mouth on him as he softened slightly. She kept her eyes on his face. She waited.
He pulled away slowly. She closed her mouth and swallowed one final time. A thin strand of saliva connected her lips to him for a moment before it broke. She kept her hands on her thighs, her eyes on the floor.
He tucked himself back into his trousers and fastened his belt. He looked at the team.
"This concludes the demonstration. You're dismissed. Ms. Shaw will remain in position until the room is empty."
The chairs scraped against the floor. Erin heard footsteps, whispers, the sound of the door opening and closing. She kept her eyes on the floor, her hands on her thighs, her mouth closed.
When the room was empty, Mark walked back to her. He crouched down and lifted her chin with one finger.
"You did well," he said. "You're becoming exactly what I need you to be."
Erin looked into his eyes. She felt empty and full at the same time. She felt seen.
"Thank you, Mark," she said.
He stood and walked to the door. "You can dress and return to your desk. The afternoon will proceed as normal."
Erin waited until the door closed. Then she rose, slowly, and began to dress. Her hands were steady. Her body was calm.
She walked back to her desk and sat down. She opened her laptop and began to review the afternoon's compliance reports.
The work was waiting. She was ready.
Full Acceptance
The morning light filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the legal suite, casting long rectangles across the polished concrete floor. Erin sat at her glass desk, her hands folded on the surface, her posture perfect. The plug inside her was a constant presence, a familiar weight that she no longer noticed as intrusion but as anchor.
She had spent the night before in her apartment, staring at the ceiling, replaying every moment of the demonstration. The way her colleagues had watched. The way Jordan had guided her through the motions. The way Mark had used her body as a teaching tool. She had expected shame. She had expected regret.
But they had not come.
Instead, she felt something else. A quiet certainty. A recognition that the woman who had once filed compliance reports and attended strategy meetings no longer existed. That woman had been anxious, defensive, always measuring herself against others. That woman had been afraid of being seen.
Erin looked down at her hands. They were still. They had not trembled once since she had sat down.
She knew what she had to do.
Mid-morning, she rose from her desk and walked across the open floor. Her heels clicked against the concrete, a steady rhythm that drew the attention of a few junior associates. She kept her gaze forward, fixed on the corner office at the far end of the suite.
Jordan Mott looked up from her monitoring station as Erin passed. Their eyes met for a moment.
"You're going to see him?" Jordan asked.
"Yes."
Jordan nodded. She didn't ask why. She didn't need to.
Erin continued to the office door. The frosted glass panel was etched with Mark Brennan's name and title. She raised her hand and knocked once.
"Come in."
She pushed the door open and stepped inside. Mark was seated behind his desk, a file open before him. He looked up as she entered, his gaze sweeping over her with the same quiet assessment he always employed.
"Close the door," he said.
She did. Then she stood before his desk, her hands clasped in front of her, waiting.
Mark set down his pen. "You wanted to see me."
"Yes, sir."
He leaned back in his chair. "Then speak."
Erin took a breath. She had rehearsed this moment a hundred times in her mind, but now that she was here, the words came not from memory but from somewhere deeper.
"I want to renounce my claim to my former position," she said. Her voice was steady. "I don't want to go back to being a compliance officer. I don't want to be transferred to another department. I don't want to be reassigned."
Mark's expression didn't change. "And what do you want?"
She met his eyes. "I want to stay at the compliance desk. Permanently."
There was a long silence. Mark studied her, his fingers drumming once against the arm of his chair.
"You understand what you're asking," he said. It wasn't a question.
"Yes, sir."
"You understand that this is not a temporary arrangement. That once it's formalized, there's no return. You will be the department's compliance example. Your role will be to demonstrate perfect obedience, perfect stillness, perfect service. Every day. For as long as I deem it appropriate."
"I understand."
"And you understand that your former authority, your professional standing, your independence. All of it. Gone."
Erin felt a warmth spread through her chest. It wasn't shame. It was relief.
"Yes, sir. I understand."
Mark rose from his desk. He walked around to the front, leaning against the edge, his arms crossed. He was close enough that she could smell his cologne, could see the precise knot of his tie.
"Why?" he asked.
She considered the question. There were many answers she could give. Because it was easier. Because she had no choice. Because the alternative was too terrifying to contemplate.
But none of those were true.
"Because it's where I belong," she said.
Mark's gaze softened, just slightly. He reached out and touched her chin, tilting her face up.
"Say that again."
"It's where I belong, sir."
"Look at me when you say it."
She held his eyes. "I belong at the compliance desk. I belong under your authority. I belong as the department's example."
His thumb traced her lower lip. "And you want this permanently."
"Yes, sir. I want it permanently."
He was silent for a long moment. Then he stepped back and gestured to the floor before him.
"Kneel."
She did. The carpet was thick beneath her knees. She settled into the position, her hands resting on her thighs, her back straight. The plug shifted inside her, a reminder of her place.
Mark looked down at her. "You've come a long way, Erin. From the woman who sat in my office seven weeks ago, terrified of losing her career. To this."
"I'm grateful, sir."
"Are you?"
"Yes. You showed me what I needed. I didn't know it before. But I know it now."
He unzipped his trousers. She watched his hands work, her breath steady. When he was ready, he stepped closer, his cock inches from her lips.
"Show me," he said.
She leaned forward and took him into her mouth.
The taste of him was familiar now. The salt, the warmth, the weight against her tongue. She moved slowly, deliberately, her hands remaining on her thighs. She didn't rush. She didn't seek to please him quickly. She sought to worship.
This was different from the first time, behind the frosted panel. Then, she had been nervous, uncertain, performing an act she had not fully consented to. This was different from the demonstration, where she had been an object displayed for others. This was private, intimate, and entirely her choice.
She wanted this.
She wanted to be here, on her knees, serving him. She wanted to feel his hands in her hair, guiding her pace. She wanted to hear his breath quicken, to know that her submission brought him pleasure.
She swirled her tongue around the head, tasting the bead of moisture that had gathered there. The salt of him spread across her palate, and she closed her eyes, savoring it. She took him deeper, feeling the smooth heat of his shaft slide along her tongue, the weight of him settling against the back of her throat. Her jaw relaxed, accommodating his girth, and she held there for a moment, letting him feel the wet warmth of her mouth, the subtle contraction of her throat around him.
Mark's fingers threaded through her hair. "Good," he murmured. "You're learning."
She didn't respond. She focused on the rhythm, on the rise and fall of his hips, on the way his grip tightened as he neared his peak. She pulled back slowly, letting her lips drag along his length, then took him deep again, establishing a pace that was unhurried, devoted. Her tongue traced the underside of his cock with each stroke, mapping the ridge, the vein, the sensitive spot just below the head where she had learned he liked to be touched.
His breathing grew heavier. She could feel the tension building in his thighs, the way his hips began to move with less restraint. His cock thickened on her tongue, the skin growing taut, and she adjusted her angle, opening her throat to take him further. The wet sounds of her mouth working him filled the quiet office, obscene and intimate.
He pulled her closer, holding her in place. She didn't resist. She took him deeper, her throat relaxing, her body accepting. His grip tightened in her hair, and she felt a pulse of arousal between her own legs, the plug shifting inside her as her body responded to his control. She was wet. She could feel it, the slick warmth gathering, the ache of desire that she knew would not be satisfied. This wasn't about her pleasure. It was about his.
"Stay," he said.
She stayed.
He began to fuck her mouth with slow, deliberate thrusts. Each one pushed him deeper, and she held still, letting him set the pace, letting him use her. Her hands remained on her thighs, her fingers pressing into the fabric of her skirt. She could feel her own arousal building, the heat spreading through her lower belly, the desperate clench of her inner muscles around nothing. But she didn't move. She didn't reach for herself. She simply received him.
His thrusts grew faster, less controlled. She could hear his breath coming in short, sharp bursts, could feel the tremor in his thighs where they pressed against her shoulders. His cock hit the back of her throat with each stroke, and she swallowed around him, the contraction of her muscles pulling a low groan from his chest.
"That's it," he said, his voice rough. "Take it."
She did. She took every inch, her eyes watering slightly, her lips stretched around his girth. Saliva gathered at the corners of her mouth, slicking his shaft, easing his passage. She could taste the pre-cum leaking from him now, stronger than before, and she knew he was close.
His hand fisted in her hair, holding her firmly in place. His hips snapped forward twice more, deep, possessive, and then he came with a low groan, his release flooding her mouth. She felt the hot pulse of it against her tongue, the thick, bitter salt of him spreading across her palate. She swallowed, obedient, her throat working around him, taking everything he gave her. She kept her eyes on his face, watching the way his jaw clenched, the way his eyes darkened with release.
When he was finished, he withdrew slowly, his cock sliding from her lips, still half-hard. She remained kneeling, her lips slightly parted, a thin strand of saliva connecting her to him before it broke. Her mouth tasted of him. Her thighs were slick with her own arousal. But she didn't move. She waited.
Mark tucked himself away and zipped his trousers. He looked down at her with an expression she couldn't quite read.
"Stand," he said.
She rose. Her knees ached faintly from the carpet, and she could feel the wetness between her legs, the unfulfilled ache that pulsed with her heartbeat. But her hands were steady. Her breathing was calm.
He walked to his desk and picked up a document. He handed it to her. It was a single page, headed with the firm's letterhead. The text was brief.
I, Erin Shaw, voluntarily and permanently renounce my position as Compliance Officer. I accept the role of Compliance Example, reporting directly to the Head of Legal. I understand that this position requires total obedience, public visibility, and ongoing service. I make this request freely and without coercion.
There was a line for her signature. And a line for Mark's.
"This is the formal request," he said. "Once you sign it, it's done."
Erin took the pen he offered. She didn't hesitate. She signed her name, the letters neat and clear. Then she handed the document back.
Mark signed beneath her. He set the pen down and looked at her.
"It's done," he said.
Erin felt a wave of calm wash over her. The last thread of resistance, the last hope of return, severed. She was his now. Completely.
"Thank you, sir," she said.
"Don't thank me yet. You still have a full day ahead of you. And Jordan will be monitoring your compliance more closely than ever."
"I'm ready."
He nodded. "Then go back to your desk. I'll have the formal notice circulated by the end of the day."
She turned and walked to the door. Her hand was on the handle when he spoke again.
"Erin."
She looked back.
"Welcome to your new position."
She smiled. It was a small smile, but it was genuine.
"Thank you, sir."
She stepped out of the office and into the open floor. The morning light was still streaming through the windows. The associates were still working at their desks. Everything looked the same.
But everything was different.
She walked to her glass desk and sat down. She adjusted her posture, her hands flat on the surface, her spine straight. The plug inside her was a comfort now, a constant reminder of her place.
Jordan approached, a tablet in her hand. "Mark just sent me the update. It's official."
"Yes."
Jordan studied her for a moment. "How do you feel?"
Erin considered the question. She felt empty. But it wasn't a painful emptiness. It was a clean emptiness. A space that had been cleared of all the old anxieties, all the old ambitions, all the old fears.
"I feel complete," she said.
Jordan nodded. She didn't smile, but there was something in her eyes that might have been respect.
"Then let's get to work."
The day passed in a blur of stillness and observation. Erin sat at her desk, her hands folded, her gaze forward. She didn't fidget. She didn't check her phone. She didn't speak unless spoken to.
When midday arrived, Jordan brought her a glass of water and a small plate of food. She ate slowly, carefully, aware of the eyes on her. Some of the associates still stared. Some had grown accustomed to her presence. But all of them knew what she was now.
She was the compliance example.
She was the visible standard.
She was Mark's.
In the late afternoon, Mark emerged from his office and walked across the floor. He stopped at her desk and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Stand," he said.
She stood.
He turned to face the room. The associates had stopped working, their attention drawn to him.
"I want to announce a change," he said, his voice carrying across the silence. "Erin Shaw has formally accepted a permanent position as the department's Compliance Example. She will remain at this desk. She will continue to demonstrate the standards we expect. She has my full authority to enforce those standards."
There was a murmur of surprise. A few of the associates exchanged glances.
Mark turned back to her. "Do you have anything to say?"
Erin looked at the faces watching her. She saw curiosity. She saw wariness. And in a few, she saw a flicker of something like envy.
"I'm here to serve," she said. "If any of you have questions about compliance, I'm available to answer them. Otherwise, please continue your work."
Mark nodded. He squeezed her shoulder once, then returned to his office.
Erin sat back down. She felt the weight of the room on her, but it didn't press down. It lifted her.
She was exactly where she was supposed to be.
At the end of the day, Jordan came to her desk. "Time to go," she said.
Erin rose. She followed Jordan through the suite, past the empty desks, past the darkened conference rooms. They stopped at the elevator.
"Same time tomorrow," Jordan said.
"Yes."
Jordan pressed the button. The doors opened.
Erin stepped inside. As the doors closed, she caught her reflection in the polished metal. She looked the same as she had that morning. Same suit. Same hair. Same face.
But she wasn't the same.
She was the compliance example.
And for the first time in her life, she was completely at peace.
New Standard
The morning light filtered through the glass walls of the legal floor, casting long shadows across the polished concrete. Erin stood at her compliance desk, the raised glass surface already familiar beneath her palms. She wore the uniform now: a sheer white blouse tucked into a charcoal pencil skirt, no stockings, her feet bare against the cold floor. The absence of her former authority felt like a second skin.
Mark approached from his corner office, a tablet in one hand and a leather folder in the other. His footsteps echoed in the quiet hum of the open floor. He stopped in front of her desk, his gaze sweeping over her posture.
"Good morning, Erin."
"Good morning, Mark." Her voice came out steady, practiced. She had been saying those words every day for the past three weeks.
"Today we formalize your position." He set the folder on her desk and opened it. Inside lay a single sheet of paper, a revised job description. Her title read: Compliance Example. Her duties listed: Visible demonstration of adherence, oral and physical service as directed, maintenance of stillness and silence during office hours. It was not a job she had applied for. It was the job she had earned.
"Sign here." He pointed to a line at the bottom.
She picked up the pen without hesitation. Her signature flowed across the page. When she finished, she looked up at him, her eyes clear.
"Done."
"Good." He closed the folder and placed it on the corner of her desk. "Your first formal duty begins in twenty minutes. I've got a video deposition with opposing counsel. You'll be serving underneath my desk during the proceeding."
Her breath caught, but she didn't argue. She nodded.
"Prepare yourself. No plug today. I want you empty and ready." He turned and walked back to his office.
Erin stood still, her fingers curled against the glass surface. The floor was beginning to fill with junior associates and paralegals. Jordan Mott passed her desk, her eyes flicking to the new document on the corner. She gave a small nod of acknowledgment and continued to her cubicle.
The twenty minutes passed in a haze of routine. Erin checked her email, though she had no active cases. She responded to a few internal messages, her fingers moving mechanically. Her mind was elsewhere, already anticipating the deposition.
At the appointed time, she rose from her desk and walked to Mark's office. The door was open. He sat behind his desk, his laptop open, a stack of documents beside him. The webcam was already positioned, a small light indicating it was active. He was on mute, waiting.
"Close the door," he said without looking up.
She did, the soft click sealing them inside. The blinds were open, the floor visible through the glass. Anyone walking by could see her, but the angle of the desk would obscure what happened below.
"Under the desk," he said. "Face me."
Erin knelt on the carpet, her knees pressing into the thin padding. She slid forward until she was between his legs, her shoulders brushing the underside of the desk. The space was tight, intimate. She could smell his cologne, the faint scent of coffee on his breath.
"When I unmute, you will begin. Slow, quiet, consistent. If you hear my voice change, you stop. If I tap the desk twice, you stop. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Mark."
"Good." He reached down and placed a hand on her head, his fingers threading through her hair. "This is your new standard, Erin. You serve while I work. You are part of the process, not separate from it. Today, you're my compliance example in a legal proceeding."
She swallowed, her throat tight.
He clicked the unmute button. "Good morning, counsel. I apologize for the delay. Let's begin."
Erin leaned forward, her hands resting on his thighs. She unfastened his belt, the metal buckle clicking softly. He didn't react. His voice remained steady as he spoke to the opposing attorney, discussing a routine contract dispute.
She pulled down his zipper, her fingers working the fabric apart. His erection was already waiting, half hard against his thigh. She freed him from his briefs, feeling the warmth of his skin, the pulse beneath her palm. She stroked him once, twice, feeling him grow harder in her grip. She leaned in and closed her lips around the tip, tasting the faint salt of him.
He inhaled, a slight pause in his sentence, then continued as if nothing had happened. "The indemnification clause is standard for this jurisdiction. I don't see any issue."
Erin moved slowly, her mouth sliding down his length. She kept her movements small, controlled, barely audible. The sound of his voice filled the room, drowning out any wet noises she might make. She focused on the rhythm, the rise and fall of his breathing, the slight tightening of his thighs beneath her hands.
She took him deeper, her tongue pressing flat against the underside of his shaft. She could feel the veins beneath the skin, the way his cock thickened as she worked him into her throat. Her lips stretched around him, slick and warm. She pulled back, swirling her tongue around the head, tasting the bead of moisture that had formed at the tip. Then she sank down again, taking him inch by inch.
The deposition continued. Mark asked questions, took notes, referenced documents. His hand remained on her head, guiding her pace. She followed his cues, speeding up when he pressed down, slowing when he relaxed. His fingers tightened in her hair whenever opposing counsel said something that irritated him, and she felt the pull like a current through her body.
She found a rhythm that matched the cadence of his voice. When he spoke calmly, she moved with slow, deliberate strokes, her mouth gliding up and down his shaft. When his tone sharpened, she held him deep, her throat working around him in small swallows that she knew he could feel. She kept her hands busy, one gripping the base of him where her mouth couldn't reach, the other pressed against his inner thigh, feeling the muscle tense and release.
Minutes passed. The conversation above her was mundane, legal jargon and procedural questions. She was not part of it. She was a separate function, a service beneath the surface. The thought settled in her chest, warm and certain.
Mark's voice changed, a slight edge entering his tone. "Let me clarify the timeline, counsel. The notice was sent on the fifteenth. Your client's response came on the twenty second. That's seven days, not the five you claim."
His hand tightened on her head, pulling her deeper. She gagged softly, her throat contracting around him. He held her there, her nose pressed against his pelvis, her breath coming in shallow pulls through her nose. Her eyes watered. She could feel her own arousal building, the wetness between her thighs, the ache that came from being used. He released his grip and she pulled back, gasping for air, a thin string of saliva connecting her lips to his cock.
He continued speaking, his voice calm. "I've got the timestamped emails if you'd like to review them."
Erin recovered, her mouth returning to its rhythm. She was more careful now, aware of his control. She didn't rush. She didn't resist. She simply served. Her jaw ached, but the discomfort felt like proof of something. She took him deep again, letting him feel the tight grip of her throat, then pulled back to lap at the head with slow, wet strokes of her tongue.
The opposing counsel droned on about discovery deadlines. Erin's mouth worked steadily, her lips sealed tight around him. She could taste him more strongly now, the salt and musk of his arousal mixing with her own saliva. His cock was fully hard, thick and heavy on her tongue. She traced the ridge of the head with the tip of her tongue, then took him all the way down again, feeling him press against the back of her throat.
His hand shifted in her hair, not guiding now, just resting. His thumb stroked the curve of her skull. The touch was almost tender, a contrast to the explicit act she was performing. She moaned softly, the vibration barely audible, and felt his thigh tense beneath her palm.
The deposition continued for another twenty minutes. Erin's knees ached against the thin carpet. Her jaw was sore, her lips swollen and sensitive. But she didn't stop. She maintained her rhythm, her mouth moving on him with the steady consistency he demanded. Sometimes she varied her pace, taking him shallow and fast, then slow and deep. Each change drew a subtle reaction: a slight shift in his breathing, a tightening of his fingers, a pause in his speech that only she could detect.
The deposition ended. Mark said his goodbyes, promised to send a revised draft, and clicked the end call button. The webcam light went dark.
He leaned back in his chair, his hand still in her hair. "You did well."
She pulled away, her lips swollen, her jaw aching. She looked up at him, waiting. Her chin was wet, her mascara slightly smudged.
"Finish," he said.
She returned to her work, her mouth moving with renewed purpose. Without the constraint of silence, she let herself hear the wet sounds of her mouth on him, the soft sucking and the slick slide of her lips. She took him deep, her throat opening, her hands gripping his thighs. She bobbed faster, her head moving with intent, her tongue working the sensitive underside of his shaft.
He was close. She could feel it in the tension of his body, the quickening of his breath, the way his cock twitched against her tongue. She felt his hand tighten in her hair, pulling her down, holding her in place. She swallowed around him, her throat working in rhythmic contractions.
He came with a low groan, his hand pressing her head down. She felt the first pulse against the back of her throat, hot and thick. She swallowed, feeling the warmth spread across her tongue. Another pulse, and another. She held still, her mouth wrapped around him, taking everything he gave her. She swallowed again, her throat milking him until the spasms subsided.
She held him in her mouth as he softened, her tongue gently cleaning him. When she finally pulled away, she pressed her lips together and looked up at him.
He looked down at her, his expression unreadable. "Clean up and return to your desk. I'll send you the final documentation this afternoon."
She nodded, wiping her chin with the back of her hand. She stood, adjusted her skirt, and walked out of his office. The floor was busy now, the hum of conversation and typing filling the air. No one looked at her twice.
She settled at her compliance desk, her palms flat on the glass surface. The folder with her new job description sat at the corner, a permanent marker of her place. She opened her email and began reviewing the messages that had accumulated during the deposition.
Jordan appeared at her desk, a stack of files in her arms. "These need to be filed with the court by noon. Can you handle it?"
Erin looked up, meeting her eyes. "Yes."
Jordan set the files on the desk. "Good. Mark wants you to deliver them personally. Use the crawl route."
Erin's stomach tightened, but she didn't hesitate. "I understand."
Jordan lingered for a moment, her gaze scanning Erin's face. "You're settling in."
"Yes."
"Good." Jordan turned and walked away.
Erin looked at the files, then at the floor. The carpet stretched out before her, a path she had traveled before. She slid off her chair and knelt, her hands pressing into the fibers. She began to crawl, the files balanced on her back, her skirt riding up her thighs.
She moved through the office, past cubicles and conference rooms, past colleagues who glanced and looked away. The route was familiar now, the rhythm of her body a meditation. She reached the filing room, pushed the door open with her shoulder, and deposited the files on the counter.
She crawled back to her desk, her knees sore, her skirt twisted. She stood, adjusted her clothing, and sat down. The glass surface was cool beneath her palms.
Her phone buzzed. A message from Mark: "Final documentation attached. Review and confirm."
She opened the attachment. It was the revised job description, now signed and notarized. Her title: Compliance Example. Her duties: as described. Her status: permanent.
She typed her response: "Confirmed."
Then she closed her laptop and sat in stillness, watching the office move around her. The deposition, the crawl, the formalization of her role. It all felt like pieces clicking into place. She was no longer Erin Shaw, compliance officer. She was something else, something simpler. She was an example, a standard, a visible demonstration of what it meant to comply.
The afternoon passed in a quiet rhythm. She answered emails, reviewed documents, maintained her posture. As the day wound toward its end, Mark emerged from his office and walked to her desk.
"Stand," he said.
She rose, her hands at her sides.
He circled her, his gaze sweeping over her body. "The deposition went well. Opposing counsel didn't suspect a thing."
She nodded.
"You're ready for more." It was not a question.
"Yes."
"Good." He stopped in front of her, close enough that she could feel the heat of his body. "Tomorrow, we begin the next phase. You'll serve during a client meeting. Live, in person. No desk to hide under."
Her heart raced, but her voice stayed steady. "I understand."
He reached out and touched her chin, tilting her face up. "You've come a long way, Erin. From the woman who reported her own mistake to the woman who kneels beneath my desk during depositions. You've found your purpose."
"Yes."
He released her. "Return to your desk. I'll send the details in the morning."
She sat down, her hands folding on the glass surface. The office lights dimmed as the workday ended, colleagues packing up and leaving. She remained, watching the sunset paint the walls in shades of orange and gold.
Jordan walked by, her bag over her shoulder. "See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
The floor emptied. The cleaning crew arrived, their carts rattling through the aisles. Erin stayed at her desk, her posture perfect, her gaze forward. She didn't move until the last cleaner passed, his mop leaving a trail of damp footprints on the concrete.
Then she stood, walked to the elevator, and descended to the lobby. The security guard nodded as she passed. She stepped into the cool evening air, the city lights flickering to life around her.
She walked home, her heels clicking on the pavement. The apartment was dark and quiet. She didn't turn on the lights. She stood in the living room, looking out at the skyline, her reflection ghostly in the glass.
She thought about the deposition, the weight of Mark's hand on her head, the rhythm of his voice while she served. She thought about the crawl, the files on her back, the formalization of her role. She thought about tomorrow, the client meeting, the next phase.
She was ready.
She undressed slowly, folding her clothes and placing them in the hamper. She showered, the hot water washing away the day. She lay down in bed, the sheets cool against her skin.
Her phone buzzed. A message from Mark: "Good work today. Sleep well. Tomorrow, you prove yourself again."
She smiled, a small, private thing. She typed her response: "I will."
She set the phone aside and closed her eyes, her body settling into the mattress. The city hummed outside her window, a distant lullaby. She drifted into sleep, her dreams filled with glass desks and quiet commands, with the steady rhythm of service.
In the morning, she would wake and do it all again. And that was enough.
