Salvage Claim
The derelict station hung in the void like a gutted whale, its hull scarred by micrometeorites and the slow decay of two centuries. Captain Nadia Crupinski drifted through the breach in the outer ring, mag-boots locking to the deck with soft metallic clicks. Her suit lights carved sharp beams through the dust that swirled in zero-g. Behind her, the rest of the boarding party followed in tight formation.
"Stay tight," she ordered, voice crisp over the shared comm. "Jessa, watch the structural readings. Riggs, eyes on motion trackers. This bucket is older than the Empire's fall. One wrong step and we become permanent fixtures."
"Copy, Captain," Engineer Jessa Crowe replied from her position at the rear. Her voice carried that familiar mix of respect and quiet curiosity. "Hull integrity is holding, but the central spine has shifted three degrees since our last scan. Watch your footing."
Nadia allowed herself a small, private smile inside her helmet. Jessa was good people. Loyal. Competent. The kind of crew that made deep-space salvage tolerable. Riggs, on the other hand, was muscle with a mouth. He grumbled something about "ghost ships and bad pay" but kept his weapon ready. That was enough.
They moved through corridors frozen in time. Tattered banners bearing the old Eldebran sunburst emblem clung to bulkheads. Control panels flickered with emergency power, casting everything in sickly blue. Nadia's gray eyes narrowed behind her visor as she consulted her wrist pad. The salvage beacon they'd planted two hours ago pulsed steadily. This was their claim. Their haul. After three weeks of empty space, she needed this to be worth something.
Her thoughts drifted, as they often did in the quiet hours between stars. The Eclipse was her world, her iron kingdom. She kept it running with sharp commands and sharper instincts. But command was lonely. The crew respected her. They feared her a little. None of them looked at her the way she sometimes caught herself imagining in the long nights of hyperspace. Someone who would yield. Someone who would beg so sweetly it made her chest tight.
She shoved the thought down. Fantasies were for civilians. She was Captain Nadia Crupinski, and she had a job to do.
"Captain," Jessa said suddenly. "I'm picking up a localized power signature. Deck seven, section gamma. It's steady. Almost like a... preservation field."
Nadia altered course without hesitation. "Lead the way, Crowe. Riggs, cover our six."
The deeper they moved, the heavier the silence became. Dust floated in lazy constellations where their suits disturbed it. Finally they reached a sealed hatch marked with faded warnings in an ancient script. Nadia ran a gloved hand over the access panel. To her surprise, it lit up at her touch.
"Biometric override accepted," a synthetic voice crackled. "Eldebran priority clearance... granted."
The hatch irised open with a tired hiss. Inside was a chamber that looked untouched by time. Soft white lights bloomed to life. In the center stood a single vertical cryo-pod, its surface etched with intricate golden filigree. The glass face was frosted but clear enough to reveal the figure suspended within.
Nadia's breath caught.
He was beautiful in a way that felt engineered. Golden skin, long silver-white hair drifting in the suspension gel like silk in water. His frame was elegantly muscled, androgynous in its perfection. High cheekbones, full lips slightly parted. Even unconscious he looked designed to please. Luminous violet eyes remained closed behind the frost.
"Holy stars," Riggs muttered. "What the hell is that?"
"Pleasure construct," Jessa whispered, already running scans. "Eldebran Empire. Pre-collapse. This is... this is a live one, Captain. Genetic markers show extreme modification. Heightened sensory response, pheromone regulation, obedience protocols. He's listed as Unit-7. Designation: Riven."
Nadia stepped closer. Her suit's scanner fed data directly into her HUD. The pod's systems were remarkably intact. Two hundred and seventeen years in stasis, and the readings showed viable neural activity. Her pulse quickened despite herself. Salvage law was clear on organic constructs. They fell under property statutes. This one belonged to whoever claimed him first.
She belonged to whoever claimed him first.
The thought sent an unexpected shiver through her. She studied the elegant lines of his body, the way even in cryo his posture suggested graceful submission. Her mind, usually so disciplined, supplied a brief, vivid image of that silver hair wrapped around her fist.
"Captain?" Jessa's voice pulled her back.
"Run the revival sequence," Nadia said, keeping her tone level. "Low power. I want to see if he's functional."
Riggs shifted uncomfortably. "Captain, with respect, that's not standard salvage. The man's clearly sentient. Or was. We should leave him."
Nadia turned her helmet toward him slowly. "He's not a man, Riggs. He's a product. Engineered servant class. And under Article 14 of the Deep Space Salvage Accord, anything found on an unclaimed derelict becomes the legal property of the discovering vessel. The Eclipse. Which means he belongs to me."
She let the words settle. The authority in her voice left no room for argument. Inside, though, her thoughts raced. This was more than salvage. This was something ancient and exquisite dropped into her lap at the exact moment her loneliness had begun to feel like a weight she could no longer ignore.
Jessa hesitated only a moment before nodding. "Initiating thaw. Neural interfaces coming online. This might take a few minutes."
The pod began to hum. Mist swirled as temperature regulators kicked in. The gel inside started to drain. Nadia watched, transfixed, as the figure's chest began to rise and fall. Color returned to his golden skin. His eyelids fluttered.
Then those violet eyes opened.
They found her immediately. Even through her suit visor, even through the distance, his gaze locked onto her with absolute focus. A faint shudder passed through his sculpted frame. His lips parted, and a soft exhale fogged the inside of the glass.
The pod hissed fully open. Riven's knees buckled slightly as gravity reasserted itself, but he caught himself with fluid grace. Naked, glistening with residual gel, he lowered himself to one knee on the cold deck. Silver hair cascaded over one shoulder. His head bowed.
"I await your command," he said. His voice was soft, melodic, deferential. It stroked along Nadia's nerves like velvet. "How may this one serve you... Captain?"
The way he said Captain sent another ripple through him. She saw it clearly this time. A subtle tightening of muscles across his abdomen. The faintest flush along his collarbones. His cock, impressive even at rest, gave a small, involuntary twitch against his thigh. All from the sound of her voice.
Nadia felt heat bloom low in her belly. She forced her expression to remain stern.
"Your designation is Riven?" she asked.
"Yes, Captain." He kept his eyes down, but she could see the way his shoulders relaxed at the sound of her speaking again. "Unit-7, pleasure servant class. My purpose is to obey. My pleasure is your pleasure."
Jessa made a small sound over the comm. Riggs took an involuntary step back.
"This is wrong, Captain," Riggs said. "Look at him. He's not a tool. He's... fuck, he's responding to you like a dog that's been waiting years for its owner. We can't just take him aboard like spare parts."
Nadia ignored him for the moment. She crouched in front of Riven, studying his face. Those violet eyes lifted only enough to meet hers through her visor. There was no fear in them. Only perfect, programmed calm and something else. A spark of curiosity. Of recognition.
She reached out and tipped his chin up with two gloved fingers. His skin was warm. Impossibly smooth. His breath hitched at the contact.
"Under salvage law," she said clearly, "you are now the property of the salvage vessel Eclipse and her captain. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Captain." His voice had gone slightly husky. "I understand. I belong to you."
The words hit her harder than they should have. She could already feel the dangerous temptation of it. This beautiful creature, designed for obedience, responding to her every syllable. She wanted to test it further. Wanted to peel back the layers and see what lay beneath the programming. But not here. Not with an audience.
"Can you walk?" she asked.
"For you, yes."
She straightened. "Then you will follow me back to my ship. You will speak only when spoken to. You will obey every order without hesitation. Is that clear?"
"Perfectly clear, Captain." Another subtle physical reaction. This time she saw his nipples tighten and his pulse jump visibly in his throat. His voice remained soft, but there was a new depth to it. "Your voice... it feels like purpose."
The admission startled her. She hadn't expected personality. Not this quickly.
Jessa cleared her throat. "Captain, the pod's data core is intact. We could extract it separately. Leave him here. There are ethical gray areas with sentient constructs..."
"There are no gray areas," Nadia cut in, her tone brooking no argument. "He's salvage. He's useful. And I don't leave valuable assets behind. Riggs, you're on point back to the airlock. Jessa, monitor his vitals the whole way. Riven, stand up."
He rose with liquid grace. The movement made the muscles in his thighs and abdomen flex in a way that was clearly intentional. His hair spilled down his back like liquid mercury. He stood before her, unashamed, waiting.
Nadia felt her mouth go dry. She activated the external speaker on her suit so her voice would reach him without the comm filter. "Follow."
The effect was immediate. His eyelids fluttered. A soft exhale escaped him. That beautiful cock gave another visible twitch, beginning to fill slightly as he fell into step behind her. Not fully erect. Not yet. Just enough to show her what her voice alone could do.
They made their way back through the station. Riggs kept shooting uneasy glances over his shoulder. Jessa remained professionally silent, but Nadia could practically hear the questions forming in her engineer's mind.
When they reached the airlock connecting to the Eclipse's shuttle, Riggs finally spoke up again.
"Captain, bringing a sex toy aboard is one thing. But this thing looks at you like you're its god. What happens when we hit the next port? You planning to sell him? Keep him in your quarters? The crew's going to have opinions."
Nadia removed her helmet as the airlock cycled. Short dark hair stuck to her forehead with sweat. Her sharp features settled into their usual mask of command. She fixed Riggs with a piercing gray stare.
"The crew will have the opinions I allow them to have," she said dryly. "Riven is mine by right of salvage. I intend to integrate him into ship operations. His programming makes him adaptable. Useful. And if any member of this crew has a problem with that, they can take it up with me directly."
She turned to Riven. He stood naked in the sterile light of the airlock, completely at ease. His violet eyes tracked her every movement with rapt attention. When she spoke again, she made sure her voice dropped into that low, authoritative register she usually reserved for giving orders in the heat of a salvage.
"You will remain in my quarters until I decide otherwise. You will not interact with the crew without my express permission. Understood?"
"Yes, Captain." The words came out almost reverent. His cock had thickened further, now hanging heavy between his thighs. Not demanding. Simply responding. A perfect instrument tuned to her frequency.
Jessa helped him into a basic thermal blanket. He accepted it with a small nod but kept his eyes on Nadia. The blanket did little to hide the elegant lines of his body.
As they boarded the shuttle for the short trip back to the Eclipse, Nadia allowed herself one quiet moment of internal reflection. She had always maintained iron control. Distance. The crew saw only the captain. Never the woman who sometimes woke from dreams aching and empty.
This creature, this Riven, represented both danger and possibility. He could satisfy every secret fantasy she had buried beneath layers of command. But if she wasn't careful, he might crack those layers wide open.
She watched him settle into the acceleration couch across from her. His hair spilled over the blanket like a waterfall of starlight. When the shuttle engines fired, he looked to her for reassurance.
"It is safe?" he asked softly.
"It is," she answered. "You're safe with me now."
The subtle tremor that ran through him at those words did not escape her notice. Nor did the way his luminous eyes softened with something that looked almost like wonder.
Nadia leaned back in her seat as the shuttle detached from the derelict station. The Eclipse waited ahead, her ship, her domain. She had claimed many things in her career. Rare minerals. Abandoned tech. Ancient data cores.
Never anything like this.
Never anyone who looked at her the way Riven was looking at her now. Like she was the first and only voice he had ever truly wanted to obey.
She met his gaze steadily, letting her own mask slip just enough for him to see the heat behind it.
"When we get aboard," she said quietly, only for him, "you will shower and present yourself for examination. I need to understand exactly what I've brought onto my ship."
His reply was immediate and heartfelt.
"As you wish, Captain. I exist to be examined by you."
The shuttle carried them through the black. Behind them, the derelict station grew smaller, another tomb raided and left behind. Ahead lay the Eclipse and all the possibilities contained within its steel walls.
Nadia felt the weight of her decision settle over her like a second skin. She had claimed him under salvage law. Now she would have to live with everything that claim would bring.
She found she was not sorry.
Not even a little.
