The Hearing and the Homecoming
Florence Jarvis leaned forward at the long oak table, her tailored navy suit hugging the lines of her shoulders and waist. The hearing room hummed with tension, cameras flashing at the edges of her vision. Across from her, the lobbyist from the energy consortium fumbled through his prepared statement, his voice cracking on the projected costs of the new emissions bill. She waited, letting the silence stretch just long enough to make the room lean in.
“Mr. Sherman,” she said, her voice crisp and carrying, “your numbers assume we can continue subsidizing outdated infrastructure without consequence. That assumption is not only outdated, it is politically convenient. The data from the EPA’s latest report shows otherwise. Care to address the discrepancy directly, or shall we move on to the real question of accountability?”
Sherman blinked, color rising in his cheeks. Senators on either side of her shifted in their seats. Florence did not smile. She simply held his gaze, green eyes steady, until he cleared his throat and began backpedaling. The exchange lasted another twenty minutes, her questions precise, her interruptions surgical. By the time the gavel fell, the room knew who had controlled the narrative.
She gathered her notes with efficient movements, accepting the murmured congratulations from colleagues without breaking stride. Outside the chamber, her aide handed her the phone. “Your four o’clock is confirmed, Senator.” Florence nodded once, already thinking past the marble corridors toward the quiet streets of Georgetown.
The townhouse greeted her with the faint scent of lemon oil and fresh linen. She set her briefcase by the door and slipped out of her heels, the cool wood floor pressing against her stockinged feet. “Alfred,” she called, voice low but carrying through the hall. “I’m home.”
He appeared from the kitchen, sleeves rolled to his forearms, dark hair slightly tousled from the day’s work. “Welcome back, Florence. Hearing went well?”
She studied him for a moment, taking in the way his posture already softened in her presence. “It did. Come here.”
Alfred crossed the room without hesitation. When he reached her, Florence placed two fingers beneath his chin, tilting his face up so their eyes met. “Kneel.”
He sank to the floor in one fluid motion, knees settling on the rug she kept for this purpose. His hands rested palms-up on his thighs, the position they had refined over years. She could see the quickening of his breath, the faint flush along his throat. The sight settled something restless inside her chest, even as it stirred a deeper, familiar hunger.
“Tell me the rules,” she said, unbuttoning her blazer. She draped it over the back of a chair, then turned back to him.
“I greet you on my knees when you return. I address you as Florence or Ma’am in private. I wait for permission before touching or speaking out of turn. My focus stays on your needs first.” His voice stayed steady, but the front of his trousers already showed the beginning of an erection. Florence let her gaze linger there, noting the visible twitch beneath the fabric.
“Good,” she murmured. “Now the evening protocol. You will prepare dinner while I shower. After we eat, you will run my bath and assist. No rushing. I want every step deliberate tonight.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
She stepped closer, letting the toe of her stockinged foot brush the inside of his wrist. Alfred’s fingers flexed, but he did not move. “You’re already hard,” she observed, voice dropping into that private register she reserved for these moments. “From nothing more than the order to kneel. Tell me what that tells you about yourself.”
His throat worked. “It tells me I belong exactly where I am.”
Florence felt the corner of her mouth lift. She traced the line of his jaw with one fingertip, then stepped back. “Up. Start the pasta. I expect the table set properly when I come down.”
He rose, movements efficient despite the clear strain in his slacks. She watched him disappear into the kitchen, the faint sound of running water and the clink of dishes following. Upstairs, she stripped in the master bath, letting the hot spray ease the tension from her shoulders. The hearing replayed in her mind, the way power had flowed through her words, the room bending to her rhythm. It satisfied, yet something sharper lingered beneath the satisfaction, an itch she could not yet name.
She toweled off, slipped into a silk robe the color of deep garnet, and descended barefoot. The dining room table gleamed, two places set with the good china, wine already breathing. Alfred stood by the stove, stirring sauce, the line of his back straight. When she entered, he glanced over his shoulder, eyes flicking down to the open vee of her robe before returning to her face.
“Sit,” she instructed. He obeyed at once, pulling out her chair first. She allowed him to pour the wine, then took the first sip, savoring the way his attention never left her. “You may speak freely while we eat. Tell me about your day.”
They spoke of policy briefs and committee schedules, the conversation easy and familiar. Yet every exchange carried an undercurrent. When Alfred reached for the bread basket, Florence caught his wrist. “Ask.”
“May I have a roll, Ma’am?”
“You may.” She released him, watching the small shiver that ran through his frame. After the meal, she rose and led him upstairs again. The bath waited, steam curling from the surface. Florence let the robe fall, stepping into the water while Alfred knelt beside the tub. He reached for the washcloth without prompting, lathering it with her preferred soap, then drew it slowly along her arm, her collarbone, the curve of each breast. His touch remained respectful, yet the bulge in his trousers had not diminished.
“You’re leaking,” she said softly, eyes on the damp spot darkening his fly. “Does serving me like this always affect you this strongly?”
“Yes, Florence.” His voice had grown rougher. “Always.”
She leaned back against the tub’s edge, letting him continue the slow, methodical washing. The water lapped at her skin. For a moment she closed her eyes, enjoying the contrast between the heat of the bath and the cool air on her nipples. A thought drifted through her, unbidden: the image of another pair of hands, larger, more assertive, moving over her body while Alfred watched from the same position he occupied now. She dismissed it at once, yet the flicker left a faint warmth low in her belly.
When the bath ended, Alfred helped her from the tub, wrapped her in a towel, and followed her to the bedroom. She sat on the edge of the bed and spread her thighs. “Show me how grateful you are for the privilege of serving.”
He crawled forward, mouth finding her center with practiced reverence. Florence threaded her fingers through his hair, guiding the pressure, the pace. Her release came quietly, a long exhale rather than a cry, her thighs tightening around his shoulders. When she opened her eyes again, Alfred’s face was flushed, his breathing uneven, the evidence of his own arousal unmistakable.
“Not tonight,” she said, voice gentle but firm. “You will wait until I decide otherwise.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
She pulled him up beside her, pressing a brief kiss to his temple. “You did well today. The foundation we have is solid. I can feel it every time you anticipate my needs before I speak them.”
Alfred rested his forehead against her shoulder, the tension in his body slowly easing into the familiar comfort of obedience. Florence stroked his back, her thoughts already drifting toward tomorrow’s schedule, the meetings, the endless negotiations. Yet beneath the steady rhythm of their evening, something restless stirred, a sense that the careful architecture they had built might soon encounter an unexpected pressure, one that would test the very rules they both cherished. She let the thought linger for a moment longer before tucking it away, content for now with the quiet power of the room and the man who waited, devoted, at her side.
