The First Confession

Dr. Lulu Zarate settled into her leather chair and adjusted the notepad on her lap. The office smelled of sandalwood and fresh linen, the blinds drawn just enough to soften the afternoon light. She smoothed the front of her tailored blouse and crossed her legs, the pencil skirt riding up only a fraction. Professional. Composed. Exactly as she needed to be.

The knock came right on time. Lulu glanced at the clock. 3:00 p.m. Natalie Brooks never missed an appointment.

"Come in," she called, voice even.

Natalie stepped through the door with the same confident stride she probably used to close real estate deals. Early thirties, athletic from all those property showings, long dark hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail. Her blouse was crisp but fitted, the fabric hinting at the curves beneath without ever crossing into unprofessional. She offered a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Dr. Zarate. Thanks for fitting me in again."

"Of course, Natalie. Please, sit wherever you're comfortable."

Natalie chose the couch, perching on the edge at first before easing back. Her hands stayed folded in her lap. Lulu waited, letting the silence stretch the way she always did. Clients needed room to begin.

"I've been thinking about what we talked about last time," Natalie said finally. Her voice was articulate, the words measured. "About how everything started. I think I can tell you the first part now."

Lulu clicked her pen and nodded. "Take your time. I'm listening."

Natalie drew a breath. "It was Ralph. He came into my life through Ethan at first, just a colleague from the office. But then he started coming around the house for drinks. One night after dinner, he asked if he could speak with me alone in the kitchen. Ethan was in the other room watching the game."

Lulu watched Natalie's face. The way her throat moved when she swallowed. The slight flush creeping up her neck.

"Ralph leaned in close," Natalie continued. "Close enough that I could feel his breath on my ear. He told me Ethan had been looking at another woman at work. Not just looking. Wanting. He said the only way to keep Ethan happy was to let him have what he wanted. That I should encourage it."

"What did you say?" Lulu asked, pen poised.

"I told him he was crazy. That Ethan would never cheat." Natalie gave a short laugh that sounded more like a sigh. "Ralph just smiled. He said I didn't need to do anything except notice. That the rest would happen on its own. Then he whispered something I still can't get out of my head. He said, 'You'll feel it when it starts. The heat. The ache. And you'll want more.'"

Lulu's fingers tightened on the pen. She forced her shoulders to stay relaxed. Professional distance. Always.

"Two weeks later I found the messages," Natalie said. Her voice dropped lower. "Ethan had been texting her after work. Nothing explicit yet, but the intent was there. Ralph was right. I confronted Ethan that night. He admitted it. He looked so guilty, so torn. And instead of being angry the way I thought I would be, I felt this rush. Like Ralph had planted the feeling inside me and it was finally blooming."

Lulu leaned forward slightly. "How did that rush manifest physically for you?"

Natalie's cheeks colored. "My heart was pounding. I felt hot all over. Wet, honestly. I couldn't stop picturing Ethan with her. The guilt mixed with something else. Something I didn't have a name for yet."

"Did you tell Ethan how it made you feel?" Lulu asked. The question came out measured, but she felt the small spark of recognition low in her own belly. She noted it and set it aside.

"Not at first. I just kissed him. Hard. We had sex that night and it was different. Rougher. I kept thinking about those texts while he was inside me." Natalie shifted on the couch. "Ralph called the next day. He asked if I'd noticed yet. I didn't answer, but he knew. He always knows."

Lulu made a note. "What did Ralph's words feel like when he first spoke them to you? Did they seem like suggestions or something stronger?"

"They felt like commands wrapped in silk," Natalie said. "Like he was already inside my head, showing me the path. I should have been furious. Instead I kept replaying it. Still do."

The room felt warmer than usual. Lulu uncrossed and recrossed her legs, aware of the subtle pulse between her thighs. She ignored it. "You mentioned he used a hypnotic tone. Can you describe how his voice changed?"

Natalie closed her eyes for a moment. "It got lower. Slower. Each word landed like it belonged there. He told me to breathe with him. In. Out. And suddenly the idea of Ethan touching someone else didn't feel like betrayal. It felt like permission."

Lulu studied her client. The way Natalie's fingers now traced the seam of her skirt. The quickened breath. She recognized the signs. She'd felt them herself once, years ago, in a different room with different people. She pushed the memory down.

"How do you feel when you recount this now?" Lulu asked quietly.

"Aroused," Natalie admitted. "Guilty about being aroused. But mostly aroused. I want to understand why. I want to know if it's okay to want more of it."

Lulu set her pen down. "Wanting to understand your desires is exactly why you're here. There's no judgment in this room."

She meant the words. She also felt the small, secret warmth spreading through her own chest at the thought of Natalie continuing. Of hearing every detail. Of perhaps one day feeling those same whispered commands herself.

Natalie met her eyes. "Thank you. I wasn't sure I could say any of this out loud."

"You did well today," Lulu said. Her voice stayed steady even as the subtle arousal lingered, a quiet reminder that her professional mask had already begun to feel thinner. "We'll pick up here next week if you're ready."

Natalie nodded. She stood, smoothing her blouse. At the door she paused. "Dr. Zarate? Do you ever hear stories like mine and wonder what it would feel like?"

Lulu held her gaze. "My job is to listen and help you explore. Not to insert myself."

Yet as Natalie left and the door clicked shut, Lulu remained in her chair, the notepad forgotten on her lap. The office felt smaller now. Quieter. She pressed her thighs together once, just enough to acknowledge the faint throb, then exhaled and reached for her next appointment file. Professional. Composed. For now.
