Cosmic Collision

The night air hummed with raw cosmic power as Cassia Nova streaked across the skyline of Neo-City. Her long silver-white hair streamed behind her like liquid starlight, catching the glow from the cosmic tattoos that traced delicate patterns across her collarbones and down her arms. The form-fitting suit clung to every curve of her slender, athletic frame, its deep navy fabric scattered with tiny embroidered stars that shimmered each time she channeled energy. She was Star Sentinel, and tonight the city needed her.

Below, in the shattered remains of the old financial plaza, Titan Rex's minions rampaged through the streets. They were ugly brutes, half a dozen of them, bodies swollen with stolen tech and low-grade strength enhancers. One of them hurled a car like a toy. Another smashed through a storefront, looting whatever glittered. Cassia felt the familiar surge of determination rise in her chest. This was what she trained for. This was why she fought.

"Not on my watch," she called out, voice ringing with heroic clarity. She dove, blue energy crackling between her palms. With a sharp thrust of her arms she unleashed a focused cosmic blast. The beam lanced downward like a falling star and slammed into the largest minion, lifting him off his feet and hurling him into a concrete pillar. The impact echoed like thunder.

She landed lightly in the center of the plaza, luminous blue eyes scanning her opponents. Two more charged her at once. Cassia spun, raising a shimmering energy shield just as the first brute swung a steel beam. The metal rebounded off her barrier with a deafening clang. Before the second could grab her, she dropped the shield, channeled power into her legs, and launched upward. Mid-air she twisted and fired twin bolts that caught both attackers in the chest. They flew backward, crashing through a row of abandoned market stalls.

Her heart pounded with exhilaration. The cosmic energy inside her felt limitless tonight, singing through her veins and making her tattoos glow brighter. She allowed herself a small, confident smile. "You boys should really find a better boss. Titan Rex doesn't exactly inspire loyalty when he keeps sending disposable help."

One of the remaining minions snarled and lunged, fists the size of boulders. Cassia met him with a palm strike infused with starlight. The blow lifted him clear off the ground. She followed with a rapid series of punches, each one crackling with power, driving him back until he collapsed in a heap. The last two tried to flee. She didn't let them. A wide arc of cosmic energy swept out from her outstretched hands, wrapping around their legs like glowing chains. They toppled hard.

Cassia hovered above them, breathing steady, silver hair settling around her shoulders. The skirmish had lasted less than five minutes. She felt strong. Optimistic. Exactly the way a hero should feel after protecting her city. She began mentally preparing her report for the League. Another successful night. Another step toward proving she belonged among the heavy hitters.

That was when the ground trembled.

The tremor started low, then built until shattered glass vibrated on the pavement. Cassia turned slowly, every instinct suddenly alert. A massive shadow fell across the plaza as a figure stepped out from between two buildings. He had to duck to clear the overhead transit line. When he straightened, her breath caught.

Titan Rex was larger than the reports had claimed. Much larger. Easily ten feet tall, his hyper-masculine frame carved from muscle that looked almost unreal. Dark hair cropped close to a chiseled face. Piercing red eyes locked onto her with predatory focus. His black-and-gold armored suit stretched tight across shoulders wide enough to block out the moonlight, the fabric somehow expanding with him. Every movement rippled with contained power.

"Well," his voice rumbled, deep and commanding, each word vibrating through Cassia's bones. "The little star has come out to play."

Cassia forced herself to stay aloft, refusing to show the sudden spike of unease. She had faced him before, but only at a distance or through proxies. Never like this. Never with his full attention fixed on her alone. "Titan Rex. Your operation ends tonight. Stand down or I'll put you down."

He laughed. The sound rolled over her like distant thunder. "Brave words for someone so small. I've been watching you, Star Sentinel. All that pretty power. All that fire. I think it's time we tested it properly."

Without warning he surged forward. One massive hand swiped at her with shocking speed. Cassia barely twisted away, the wind of his pass ruffling her hair. She retaliated instantly, firing a concentrated blast straight at his chest. The cosmic energy detonated against him in a brilliant explosion of blue light. When the smoke cleared he was still standing. Still smiling. A faint scorch mark on his armor was the only evidence of her attack.

"That all you got?" he taunted. His red eyes gleamed. "Try harder."

Cassia felt a flicker of doubt but pushed it down. She was Star Sentinel. She did not run from villains. She rose higher, gathered more power until her entire body glowed, then dove at him like a meteor. Her fist connected with his jaw in a strike that should have shattered concrete. The impact jolted up her arm. Titan Rex's head barely moved. Instead he caught her wrist in one enormous hand.

The difference in size hit her all at once. His fingers easily wrapped around her forearm, thick and unyielding. Heat radiated from his skin. Before she could pull away he yanked her down and slammed her into the pavement hard enough to crack it. Air exploded from her lungs. She gasped, cosmic tattoos flaring as she tried to summon a shield.

He didn't give her the chance. Titan Rex grew even larger, swelling to nearly twelve feet in a display of casual power that made her stomach tighten. The suit adapted seamlessly, every plate and seam expanding with him. He loomed over her, blocking out the sky.

"Get off me!" Cassia shouted. She blasted upward with both hands, point-blank into his torso. The energy burst bright enough to light the entire plaza. For a second she thought it worked. Then his free hand came down and pinned her arms above her head with terrifying ease. The pavement beneath her back groaned.

His face lowered until she could see the sharp lines of his features clearly. A faint scent reached her, masculine and charged, like ozone mixed with something darker. His body pressed closer, the sheer mass of him making her feel impossibly small. One massive thigh shifted between her legs to pin her more securely. The pressure was overwhelming. Absolute.

Cassia's breath hitched. Something unwelcome stirred low in her belly. A flicker of heat. A traitorous warmth that spread outward before she could stop it. Her luminous blue eyes widened in shock. No. This was wrong. This was the enemy. Yet her body registered the dominance, the casual way he held her down, the effortless strength in every inch of him, and some hidden part of her responded.

She hated it instantly. The unwanted arousal felt like betrayal. Her cheeks burned. She twisted violently, cosmic energy exploding outward in a wild pulse. The blast finally forced him to loosen his grip just enough. Cassia wrenched one arm free and drove an elbow into his throat with every ounce of her power. He grunted, more in annoyance than pain, but it bought her a precious second.

She flew. Not gracefully. Not with her usual heroic poise. She shot upward in a desperate streak of silver and blue, heart hammering against her ribs. Behind her she heard his deep voice call out, laced with dark amusement.

"Run then, little star. But we both felt that. This isn't over."

Cassia didn't look back. She poured on speed, weaving between buildings, putting as much distance as possible between herself and the plaza. Her lungs burned. The cosmic tattoos on her skin pulsed erratically. She could still feel the ghost of his hand around her wrist, the crushing weight of his body, the way her thighs had instinctively tried to close around the massive leg that pinned her.

She landed hard on a rooftop several blocks away, knees buckling as her boots met gravel. For a long moment she simply stood there, bent over, hands on her thighs, silver hair falling forward to curtain her face. The city lights blurred below her. Her mind raced.

What the hell was that? She had faced stronger opponents before. She had been thrown through buildings, blasted, outnumbered. None of them had ever triggered that shameful spark of heat. None of them had made her feel so completely overpowered that her body reacted against her will. Titan Rex wasn't just strong. He was overwhelming. The way he grew larger at will, the way his voice seemed to sink into her bones, the casual dominance in every movement. It terrified her.

It also left her thighs clenched and her pulse throbbing in places it had no right to be.

"No," she whispered fiercely to the empty rooftop. "You are Star Sentinel. You protect people. You do not... you do not get wet for the villain who just kicked your ass." The crude internal admission made her flush hotter. She straightened, forcing her breathing to slow. The cosmic energy inside her steadied. The glow of her tattoos dimmed to a soft shimmer.

She told herself it was adrenaline. Nothing more. A momentary lapse caused by the intensity of the fight. It would not happen again. Next time she would be ready. Next time she would hit him harder, faster, smarter. She would not let him pin her. She would not let him speak to her in that commanding tone that seemed to pull at something deep and secret inside her.

Still, as she launched back into the sky to head for League headquarters, the memory of his massive frame pressing her into the ground lingered. The flicker of unwanted arousal refused to die completely. It sat there, small and treacherous, warming her core even as she flew faster to outrun it.

Titan Rex watched the streak of blue light disappear between the towers. A slow, possessive smile curved his lips. He shrank slightly, settling back to a still-imposing eight feet, armor adjusting with a series of mechanical clicks. The little star had more fight in her than most. Good. He had grown tired of easy conquests.

He would break her slowly. Not with brute force alone, though he had plenty of that. No. He had seen the brief dilation of her luminous eyes when he pinned her. He had felt the subtle shift in her breathing, the faint tremble that wasn't entirely fear. Star Sentinel carried hidden desires. He intended to drag them into the light.

"Run while you can, Cassia," he murmured, voice low enough that only the night heard him. "The next time I get my hands on you, I won't let go so easily."

He turned and walked back into the shadows, already planning their next collision. The city lights reflected off his gold accents as the massive villain disappeared, leaving only the shattered plaza and the memory of overwhelming power behind him.

High above, Cassia landed on the observation deck of League Tower. She smoothed her suit, squared her shoulders, and forced her expression into its usual mask of optimistic determination. No one could know. Not Darnel, not the rest of the team. She had simply encountered Titan Rex, fought him, and escaped. That was all.

But as she walked through the sliding doors, the phantom pressure of his grip still lingered on her skin. The first crack in her armor had appeared. Small. Almost imperceptible. Yet it was there, humming beneath her heroic resolve like a distant star waiting to go supernova.

She told herself she was ready for whatever came next. Deep down, some secret part of her already wondered if that was a lie.
