The Recommendation
Belinda Somerville sat on the edge of the leather couch in Dr. Janet LeBlanc's office, her hands folded tightly in her lap. The familiar scent of lavender and old books filled the room, but it did little to ease the knot in her stomach. Across from her, Lucius shifted in his chair, his brown eyes fixed on the carpet. They had been coming here for three months now, and every session felt like peeling back another layer of the same tired argument.
"We barely touch anymore," Belinda said, her voice steady but low. She glanced at Lucius. "It's not that I don't love you. I do. It's just... everything feels flat. Work, home, even in bed. I try, but nothing clicks."
Lucius nodded without looking up. "I know. I feel it too. I just don't know how to fix it. I keep thinking if I give her space or try to be more present, it'll come back. But it doesn't."
Dr. Janet LeBlanc leaned forward in her chair, her silver-streaked hair catching the light from the window. Her expression was calm, the same reassuring warmth she always offered. "This is common in long-term marriages. The spark doesn't vanish overnight. Sometimes it needs a deliberate recalibration. Something to wake up the senses again."
Belinda crossed her legs, the fabric of her skirt whispering against her skin. She was thirty-two, attractive in a way that still turned heads at the office, yet lately she felt invisible even to her own husband. The tension between them had grown so thick that even simple conversations about dinner felt loaded. She wanted more. She needed more. But admitting that out loud still made her throat tighten.
"What kind of recalibration?" Lucius asked. He sat up straighter, always the accountant, always looking for a practical solution.
Dr. LeBlanc smiled gently. "I've had good results with a new audio program called Sensory Recalibration, designed by Dr. Quentin Fitzpatrick. It's a series of guided tracks designed to heighten awareness of touch, sound, and desire. Couples listen together at first, then sometimes separately. It plants subtle suggestions that help reawaken physical connection without pressure."
Belinda felt a flicker of curiosity. Audio. Hypnotic, almost. The idea of letting someone else's voice guide her thoughts sounded strangely appealing. She imagined closing her eyes and drifting, letting go of the constant mental list of deadlines and grocery runs.
"Is it safe?" Lucius asked.
"Completely. It's therapeutic, not clinical hypnosis. Just relaxation and guided imagery. Many couples report feeling closer after the first session."
Belinda met Lucius's eyes. He looked hopeful for the first time in weeks. She nodded. "Let's try it. We need something different."
Lucius exhaled. "Yeah. I'm in."
Dr. LeBlanc handed them a small USB drive. "Start with track one tonight. Listen together in a quiet space. No phones, no distractions. Just let it wash over you."
That evening, their apartment felt quieter than usual. Belinda changed into soft lounge pants and a thin tank top while Lucius dimmed the lights in the bedroom. They sat side by side against the headboard, the laptop balanced between them. The first track began with a low, steady voice that was smooth and measured, like warm honey poured over stone.
"Close your eyes. Breathe in slowly. Feel the air fill your lungs. Let every sound guide you deeper."
Belinda obeyed. The voice continued, calm and precise, describing the warmth spreading through her body. She felt her shoulders drop. Tension she hadn't noticed eased from her jaw. The voice spoke of heat blooming low in her belly, of skin becoming more sensitive, of desire rising like a slow tide.
She shifted slightly. A pleasant warmth pooled between her thighs, unexpected and gentle. Images flickered behind her closed eyes. Not Lucius's face. Someone taller. Sharp features. A low, commanding tone that matched the recording. The voice on the track seemed to wrap around her, pulling her toward an unfamiliar pull of attraction.
"Notice how your body responds. Allow the sensation to grow. Imagine a presence guiding you. Strong. Focused. You feel seen."
Belinda's breath caught. The mysterious figure in her mind had salt-and-pepper hair and dark, piercing eyes. She didn't know where the image came from, but it felt vivid. Her nipples tightened against the thin fabric of her tank top. She pressed her thighs together, chasing the warmth without meaning to.
Lucius sat beside her, eyes closed, breathing evenly. He seemed relaxed, maybe even a little sleepy. No visible reaction crossed his face. Belinda opened one eye to check. He looked peaceful, unaware of the way her pulse had quickened.
The track continued for twenty minutes. By the end, Belinda felt flushed and strangely alive. The voice faded out with instructions to carry the warmth into the rest of the evening. She opened her eyes fully and glanced at Lucius again.
"How do you feel?" she asked.
"Relaxed," he said, stretching. "Kind of nice. Like I took a long nap. You?"
Belinda hesitated. The warmth still lingered low in her body. "Good. Different. I think it helped."
They went to bed soon after. Lucius fell asleep quickly, his arm draped loosely over her waist. Belinda lay awake, staring at the ceiling. The image of the tall man with the commanding voice refused to fade. She wondered who he was, why the recording had planted him so clearly in her mind. A seed of fantasy had taken root. She felt guilty for it, yet the guilt only made the warmth stronger.
She rolled onto her side, careful not to wake Lucius. Her hand drifted down her stomach, pausing just above the waistband of her pants. The voice echoed in her memory. Strong. Focused. You feel seen. Her fingers brushed lower, testing. A quiet shiver ran through her. She stopped herself, heart pounding. Not tonight. Not with Lucius right there.
Still, the seed had been sown. Belinda closed her eyes and let the mysterious figure linger in her thoughts a little longer before sleep finally claimed her. The program had only just begun, and already something inside her had started to stir.
