The First Flicker

The storm came in fast over the Indiana flatlands, rattling the old windows of the Whitfield Public Library like a fist at the door. Kirisa Bonford looked up from her cataloging, the scratch of her pen going still as thunder rolled overhead. The lights flickered once, twice, and she held her breath, waiting for the darkness.

The building held.

She pushed her glasses up her nose and returned to the ledger, but her focus was gone. Something felt wrong. Or not wrong. Different. A prickling at the back of her neck that had nothing to do with the weather.

The rare books room was her sanctuary. Climate controlled, dimly lit, smelling of aged paper and leather and the faint sweetness of beeswax she used on the shelves. Three years she had spent curating this collection, learning every spine, every watermark, every marginal note left by long dead readers.

But tonight, for the first time, the room felt like it was watching her.

Kirisa set down her pen and stood. The floorboards creaked beneath her sensible flats as she walked the length of the main aisle. Rain sheeted down in silver curtains against the old glass, and the frames groaned under the pressure.

She stopped in front of the locked case at the far end.

The manuscript had arrived that morning. A donation from the estate of some local historian she had never heard of. The delivery man had left it on the front desk with a shrug and a clipboard. She had signed without looking, too busy with the summer reading program to give it proper attention.

Now she stared at it through the glass.

The leather was dark, almost black, but as she watched, a faint shimmer moved across its surface. Like oil on water. Like heat rising off summer pavement.

Her heart kicked.

Kirisa fumbled for the keys, her fingers clumsy with sudden nerves. The lock clicked open and she reached inside, her hand hovering over the book. She should wait. She should call Elmira. She should follow protocol.

Instead, she touched it.

The leather was warm. Alive. And the moment her skin made contact, the shimmer flared into light that poured through her fingers, up her arm, into her chest. She gasped and tried to pull back, but her hand was stuck, fused to the cover. The light grew brighter, hotter, until the library dissolved around her.

She was falling.

No, not falling. Flying. Rushing through darkness shot through with ribbons of gold and silver, colors that had no names, sounds that vibrated in her bones. She tried to scream but had no mouth, tried to breathe but had no lungs. She was thought and feeling and raw electric want.

And then she was solid again.

Kirisa landed hard on her hands and knees, gravel biting into her palms. The air was different. Thicker. Full of woodsmoke and pine and something wild. She raised her head and saw trees. Endless trees, dark against a sky bruised with twilight.

Behind her, a voice said, "Well, now. That's a sight I didn't expect."

She spun around, her heart slamming against her ribs.

He stood beside a campfire, the flames casting long shadows across his face. Tall. Broad shouldered. Dark hair that curled at the collar of a linen shirt, open at the throat. His eyes were the blue of winter ice, and they were fixed on her with an intensity that made her breath catch.

He wore buckskin trousers and boots caked with mud. A rifle leaned against a nearby log. A knife hung at his hip.

She was looking at a man from another century.

"Who are you?" she whispered.

He tilted his head, a slow smile spreading across his face. "I was about to ask you the same thing. You're a long way from anywhere, dressed like that."

Kirisa looked down at herself. Her cardigan. Her skirt. Her sensible flats, now covered in forest debris. She looked completely absurd.

"I don't know how I got here," she said.

"Liar." The word was soft, almost affectionate. He stepped closer, and the firelight played over the strong lines of his jaw, the slight crookedness of his nose, the way his lips curved like he knew a secret. "You came through the light. I saw it."

"You saw it?"

"I've been waiting for something strange to happen." He stopped a few feet away, close enough that she could smell him. Woodsmoke and leather and clean sweat. "Been feeling it for days. A pulling. Like a thread tugging at my chest, telling me to stay put right here." He tapped his sternum. "So I stayed. And here you are."

Kirisa's mind raced. This was impossible. She was in a library in Indiana. She was safe and boring and nothing ever happened to her.

But the fire was real. The trees were real. And the man in front of her was the most real thing she had ever seen.

"I'm Kirisa," she said, because she didn't know what else to say.

"Donovan." He said it like it meant something. Like he was giving her a piece of himself. "Donovan Reed."

The name settled into her chest like a key turning in a lock.

"I'm sorry," she said, her voice shaking. "I don't understand what's happening. I was in my library and there was a book and it glowed and now I'm here and you're real and I think I'm losing my mind."

Donovan laughed, a low warm sound. "You're not losing your mind. You're finding something else." He reached out, slow, giving her time to pull away, and his fingers brushed her cheek. "You're cold. Come sit by the fire."

She should have said no. She should have demanded he take her back, help her find the light, send her home.

Instead, she let him guide her to the log beside the fire.

They sat in silence for a long moment. The flames crackled and popped. An owl called somewhere in the darkness. Kirisa held her hands out to the warmth and watched them shake.

"Tell me about your world," Donovan said.

"It's not that different from yours. I mean, it is. There are cars and electricity and phones. But people are still people. We still love and hurt and want."

"What do you want, Kirisa?"

The question hit her like a blow. She turned to look at him, and the firelight caught his eyes, turning them to molten silver.

"I don't know," she said. "I thought I did. I thought I wanted a quiet life. Books and safety and no surprises." She laughed, a broken sound. "I guess the universe had other plans."

"The universe doesn't have plans," Donovan said. "It has patterns. Threads. And sometimes those threads tangle together in ways that don't make sense until you pull on them."

He reached for her hand, and she let him take it. His palm was rough, calloused, warm. He turned her hand over and traced the lines of her palm with his thumb.

"I've been alone a long time," he said quietly. "Not lonely. There's a difference. But when I saw you fall out of that light, something in me recognized you. Like I've been waiting for you my whole life and didn't know it."

Kirisa's throat tightened. "I feel it too."

"Then stop thinking."

He leaned in, and she met him halfway.

The kiss was soft at first. Questioning. His lips brushed hers, testing, and she felt the world tilt. She parted her lips and he deepened the kiss, his hand sliding into her hair, cradling her head like she was something precious.

A small desperate noise escaped her, and he answered with a growl low in his chest.

His other hand found her waist, pulling her closer, and she went willingly. The log was rough beneath her, but she didn't care. All she cared about was the heat of his mouth, the strength of his arms, the way he kissed her like he was drowning and she was air.

"Kirisa," he breathed against her lips.

"Donovan."

He pushed her cardigan off her shoulders and she let it fall. His hands moved over her blouse, palms flat against her ribs, her waist, the curve of her hip. She arched into him, needing more, needing everything.

His mouth traced down her jaw, her throat, and she threw her head back, giving him access. He groaned against her skin, his teeth grazing her pulse point, and she cried out.

"You're so soft," he murmured. "So perfect."

Her fingers found the buttons of his shirt, fumbling with them until they gave way. She pushed the fabric aside and spread her hands across his chest. Warm skin. Coarse hair. Muscle shifting beneath her touch.

He was beautiful.

He pulled her onto his lap, and she straddled him, her skirt riding up her thighs. The heat of him pressed against her, and she rocked forward without thinking, seeking friction, seeking relief.

Donovan's hands slid down her back, gripping her rear, pulling her tighter against him. He was hard, she could feel it, and the knowledge sent a bolt of heat straight to her core.

"I want you," he said, his voice ragged. "God help me, I want you so bad."

"Then have me."

He kissed her again, harder this time, and she met him with equal force. His hands found the hem of her blouse and slipped underneath, fingers splaying across her bare back, and she shivered at the contact.

He was touching her. Really touching her. And every place his skin met hers felt like a brand.

She rocked against him again, and he groaned into her mouth. His hands moved to her front, cupping her breasts through her bra, and she whimpered. Her nipples peaked beneath his thumbs, and he rolled them gently, making her gasp.

"Donovan, please."

"Please what?"

"I don't know. I just need more."

He lowered his head and pressed his mouth to her collarbone, her sternum, the swell of her breast through her blouse. She clutched his shoulders, her fingers digging into his skin, and let the sensation wash over her.

The fire crackled beside them. The night wrapped around them like a blanket. And for a moment, Kirisa forgot everything. The library. The book. The impossibility of it all.

There was only Donovan. His mouth. His hands. The way he made her feel like she was the center of the universe.

He pushed her blouse aside and pulled down the cup of her bra, exposing her breast to the cool night air. She gasped, and he took her nipple into his mouth, his tongue hot and wet against her sensitive skin.

She cried out, her hips bucking against him.

He sucked gently, then harder, and she saw stars. His tongue traced circles around the tight peak before he pulled it between his teeth, applying just enough pressure to make her whimper. His hand found her other breast, pinching and rolling the nipple between his calloused fingers, and the dual sensation made her head fall back.

"Donovan, I'm going to—"

"Let go. I've got you."

He released her breast with a wet pop and kissed his way down her stomach, his hands pushing her skirt up around her waist. His fingers hooked into the waistband of her underwear, and he paused, looking up at her with those ice blue eyes.

"Tell me to stop," he said. "Tell me and I will."

"Don't stop. Please don't stop."

He pulled the fabric down her thighs, and the cool air hit her heated skin. She was exposed to him, vulnerable and aching, and instead of feeling fear, she felt wanted. Seen. Devoured by the intensity of his gaze.

Donovan pressed his mouth to the inside of her thigh, and she trembled. He kissed a slow path upward, his stubble scraping against her sensitive skin, each kiss bringing him closer to where she needed him. When his breath finally ghosted over her core, she was shaking.

"You're so wet," he murmured against her. "So ready."

Then his mouth was on her, and Kirisa forgot how to think.

His tongue was hot and deliberate, tracing the length of her before circling the swollen bud at her center. She cried out, her hands flying to his hair, gripping the dark curls as her hips rose off the log. He held her steady, his strong hands gripping her thighs, and worked her with a patience that was almost cruel.

He licked and sucked, alternating between gentle flicks and long slow strokes, building her higher with every pass. When he slipped a finger inside her, she gasped, her body clenching around him. He groaned against her, the vibration sending shockwaves through her core, and added a second finger, curling them in a rhythm that matched his mouth.

"Oh God, Donovan, yes, there, right there—"

The pressure built and built, a coil tightening in her belly. She was close, so close, teetering on the edge of something vast and terrifying and wonderful.

He sucked harder, his fingers thrusting deeper, and she shattered.

Her orgasm hit her like a wave, crashing through her body in pulses of white hot pleasure. She cried out his name, her voice echoing through the dark trees, and he worked her through it, his mouth and fingers drawing every last tremor from her body until she lay boneless and gasping.

He pressed one final kiss to her thigh and looked up at her, his chin glistening, his eyes dark with hunger.

"You're beautiful when you come," he said. "I want to see it again."

Before she could respond, he was kissing her, and she tasted herself on his lips. She reached for the fastenings of his buckskin trousers, her fingers still unsteady, and he helped her, lifting his hips so she could push the leather down.

He was thick and hard, and she wrapped her hand around him, feeling the silken skin over rigid steel. He groaned, his head dropping forward, his breath hot against her neck.

"Kirisa," he said, his voice strained. "I need you."

"I need you too."

She rose up on her knees and positioned herself over him. His hands gripped her hips, steadying her, and she sank down slowly, taking him inch by inch. The stretch was exquisite, almost overwhelming, and she paused halfway, adjusting to the fullness.

"You feel so good," he breathed. "So tight. So perfect."

She sank the rest of the way down and they both groaned. He filled her completely, hitting something deep inside that she didn't know existed. She stayed still for a moment, savoring the feeling of being joined, of being one.

Then she began to move.

She rose up slowly and sank back down, finding a rhythm that made her breath catch. His hands guided her hips, controlling the pace, and she let him lead. Each thrust sent sparks of pleasure through her body, building the pressure again, winding her tighter and tighter.

"Faster," she gasped. "Please, faster."

He obeyed, his hips snapping up to meet hers, driving deeper. She braced her hands on his shoulders and rode him harder, chasing the edge. The sounds of their bodies meeting filled the clearing, obscene and beautiful, and the firelight danced across their skin.

He sat up, pulling her closer, and took her nipple into his mouth again. She cried out, the sensation pushing her closer. His hand slipped between them, his fingers finding her clit, and he rubbed in tight circles as he thrust up into her.

"Come for me, Kirisa," he said against her breast. "Come with me."

She was already there. The orgasm crashed through her, more intense than the first, and she felt him follow her over the edge. He groaned her name, his body stiffening, and she felt him spill inside her, hot and pulsing. She collapsed against his chest, both of them trembling, breathing hard, the sweat cooling on their skin.

They stayed like that for a long moment, tangled together, her head resting in the crook of his neck. His hand stroked her back in slow circles, and she felt his heart pounding against her cheek.

"Kirisa," he said softly.

"Mmm."

"I don't know how long we have."

She didn't want to hear that. She didn't want to think about time or books or lights or the impossibility of what had just happened. She wanted to stay here forever, in this clearing, with this man who had made her feel more alive in minutes than she had felt in years.

But even as she thought it, she felt the pull.

The light bloomed in her chest, golden and insistent, pulling at her like a current. She felt herself being drawn backward, away from him, and she clutched at his shoulders.

"No," she said. "No, not yet."

Donovan's eyes went wide. "Kirisa, what's happening?"

"The book. It's pulling me back."

"Don't go."

"I don't have a choice."

She kissed him one last time, desperate and fierce, tasting salt and smoke and promise. Then the light consumed her.

She landed hard on the floor of the rare books room, the manuscript clutched to her chest. The storm raged outside, rain hammering against the windows. The lights were still on. The clock on the wall said seven minutes had passed.

Seven minutes. But it felt like a lifetime.

Kirisa lay on the cold floor, her body aching, her lips swollen, her skin still tingling from his touch. She could smell him on her. Woodsmoke and leather and something wild. Between her thighs, she felt the evidence of their joining, warm and slick, and the intimacy of it made her eyes sting.

She pressed the manuscript to her heart and wept.

Not from sadness. From the sheer overwhelming force of what she had felt. She had been touched. Seen. Claimed. And now she was back in her quiet library, surrounded by her quiet books, and nothing would ever be quiet again.

She opened the manuscript with trembling hands.

The pages were blank.

But as she watched, words began to appear, written in a hand she didn't recognize. Old fashioned. Looping. Beautiful.

Come back to me.

Kirisa closed the book and held it tight.

She would. She would find a way.

Echoes of the Wild

The morning light did nothing to warm the chill that had settled into Kirisa's bones. She sat at her desk in the library's back office, a stack of cataloging forms untouched before her. Her mind was not on the books. It was on a campfire in the wilderness, on the rough calluses of a man's hands, on the taste of wood smoke and desire.

Her fingers rose to touch her lips. They still felt tender, swollen.

Elmira Ragen poked her head through the doorway. "You're quiet this morning. More than usual."

Kirisa forced a smile. "Just tired. Didn't sleep well."

"Storm keep you up?" Elmira's eyes were knowing.

"Something like that."

Elmira didn't push. She just nodded and disappeared back into the main reading room. Kirisa was grateful. She wasn't ready to explain the impossible thing that had happened to her. She wasn't sure she could explain it to herself.

She pulled up the library's digital catalog and typed a name. Donovan Reed.

The search returned nothing. She tried different spellings. Donavan. Donovon. Nothing. She tried "frontier scout" and "1750s" and "Indiana Territory." A few results popped up, mostly genealogical records and local history books.

She clicked on one. Pioneers of the Wabash Valley. She scanned the text. And there it was. A single paragraph.

Donovan Reed was a scout and guide of considerable reputation. He was known for his knowledge of the land and his skill with a rifle. He disappeared from the historical record in the winter of 1758, presumed killed by hostile tribes. No grave was ever found.

Kirisa's breath caught. Disappeared. No grave. She closed her eyes and saw him standing by the fire, his eyes dark with a longing that mirrored her own. She felt the ghost of his hand on her cheek.

She read on. The Reed family line continued, however, through a younger brother who settled in the area. Notable descendants include Julian Reed, a local historian and professor at the University of Southern Indiana.

Julian Reed.

The name was a bell ringing in a quiet room. She typed it into the search bar. There he was. Dr. Julian Reed. Department of History. Specializing in early American frontier life. There was a photo. Dark hair, piercing blue eyes, a lean face with a strong jaw. He was wearing a tweed jacket and a faint smile.

It was him. It was Donovan. Or at least, it was his echo.

Kirisa's heart hammered against her ribs. She needed to meet him. She needed to see if the connection was real, if the pull she felt was more than just a lingering fantasy.

She grabbed her phone and called the number listed for the historical society. It rang three times before a voicemail picked up. A deep, warm voice. "This is Julian Reed. Leave a message."

She hung up. Her hands were shaking. She couldn't leave a message. She needed to see his face, to look into his eyes.

She grabbed her purse and told Elmira she was going to the historical society for research. Elmira raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

The historical society was a converted Victorian house on Main Street. The rooms were filled with glass cases and old photographs. A woman at the front desk looked up as Kirisa entered.

"Can I help you?"

"I'm looking for Dr. Julian Reed," Kirisa said, her voice steadier than she felt.

The woman smiled. "He's in the back. Let me get him."

Kirisa waited, her hands clasped in front of her. She could feel the energy in the room, the hum of old things, the weight of history. And then he appeared.

Julian Reed was taller than she had imagined. He was wearing a cable-knit sweater over a collared shirt, his sleeves pushed up to his elbows. His eyes were the same. That piercing, impossible blue. They locked onto hers, and she felt the world tilt.

"Hello," he said, his voice a low rumble. "I'm Julian. Can I help you?"

Kirisa swallowed. "I'm Kirisa Bonford. I'm the curator at the public library. I was doing some research on a local figure. Donovan Reed."

Something flickered in his eyes. Recognition. Interest. "Donovan Reed. That's a name I don't hear often. He's an ancestor of mine."

"I know," Kirisa said, and then felt foolish. "I mean, I read that. In a book."

Julian smiled. It was a slow, warm smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes. "It's not often someone comes in asking about my family's old ghost stories."

"Ghost stories?"

He gestured toward a back room. "Come. I'll show you what I have."

She followed him into a small office lined with bookshelves and filing cabinets. He pulled out a folder and laid it on his desk. Inside were old maps, letters, and a single charcoal sketch.

Kirisa's breath caught. It was a drawing of a man. Donovan. The same strong jaw, the same dark hair. The same eyes.

"That's him," Julian said, watching her face. "It's one of the few images we have. He was a scout, you know. During the French and Indian War."

"I know," Kirisa whispered. She reached out and touched the edge of the sketch. Her fingers tingled.

Julian was close to her now. She could smell him. Soap and old paper and something warm and male. She looked up at him.

"You seem very interested in him," he said, his voice low.

"I am." She met his eyes. "I feel like I know him."

A charged silence stretched between them. Julian's gaze dropped to her lips. She saw his throat move as he swallowed.

"Kirisa," he said, her name a question and a statement.

She didn't answer. She stepped closer. Her hand came up and touched his face. His skin was warm, smooth. He turned into her touch, his eyes closing for just a moment.

And then she kissed him.

It was different from the kiss with Donovan. That had been urgent, desperate, a claiming in the firelight. This was slow. Deliberate. An exploration.

Her lips brushed his, soft and questioning. He made a low sound in his chest and his hand came up to cup the back of her head, pulling her closer. His mouth opened against hers, and she tasted him. Coffee. Something sweet.

The kiss deepened. His tongue traced the seam of her lips, and she parted them, letting him in. The sensation was electric. Her body pressed against his, and she felt the hard planes of his chest, the warmth of his hands through her cardigan.

He backed her up against the edge of his desk. The wood pressed into her thighs. His hands slid down her back, pulling her hips against his. She could feel his arousal, a hard line against her belly.

She moaned into his mouth. Her fingers tangled in his hair. It was softer than Donovan's, but the feel of it was the same. The same texture. The same scent.

His mouth left hers and trailed down her neck, hot breath against her pulse. She arched into him, her head falling back as his lips found the sensitive skin below her ear. His teeth grazed her there, a gentle nip that sent a shiver cascading down her spine. She gasped, her hands clutching at his shoulders, feeling the muscle beneath the cable-knit.

"Tell me to stop," he murmured against her throat. His hands had found the hem of her cardigan and slipped beneath it, his palms flat against the small of her back. The heat of his skin against hers was searing.

"Don't stop." The words came out breathless, unsteady. She pulled him closer, her hips rolling against his. The friction of it made them both groan.

His fingers worked at the buttons of her blouse with surprising dexterity. When he pushed the fabric aside, his mouth followed, pressing open-mouthed kisses to the swell of her breasts above her bra. She felt her nipples tighten, straining against the lace, aching for his touch.

He reached behind her and unhooked it with one hand. The bra fell away, and the cool air of the office hit her bare skin for just a moment before his mouth closed over one nipple. She cried out, her fingers digging into his back. His tongue circled the tight peak, then he sucked gently, and a bolt of pleasure shot straight between her thighs.

"Julian," she breathed. Her hands found the bottom of his sweater and pulled it up. He broke away just long enough to let her pull it over his head, and then his mouth was on her again, hot and hungry.

She ran her hands over his chest. His skin was smooth, warm, with a light dusting of hair that trailed down his stomach. She could feel his heart pounding beneath her palm, as fast and urgent as her own.

His hand slid up her thigh, pushing her skirt up as it went. His fingers found the edge of her underwear, and he traced the line of it, back and forth, a maddening tease. She was wet, had been wet since the moment he looked at her with those blue eyes.

"Please," she whispered.

He slipped his hand beneath the fabric. His fingers found her slick heat, and they both groaned. He stroked her slowly, deliberately, his thumb finding the swollen bundle of nerves at her center. She bucked against his hand, a whimper escaping her lips.

"So responsive," he said against her neck. "So wet."

His fingers slid inside her, one, then two, curling in a rhythm that made her see stars. His thumb kept its maddening pressure on her clit, and she felt the coil of pleasure building, tightening, spreading through her body like wildfire.

She reached for him, her hand finding the hard length of him through his jeans. She stroked him, felt him pulse against her palm. He groaned, his hips pressing into her hand.

"Not yet," he said, his voice rough with need. He pulled her hand away and increased the pace of his fingers, thrusting deeper, his thumb circling faster. The desk creaked beneath them.

The orgasm hit her like a wave. She shattered against his hand, crying out his name, her body clenching around his fingers. He held her through it, his mouth on hers, swallowing her sounds as the pleasure rippled through her in endless pulses.

When she finally stilled, her breath ragged, he pressed his forehead to hers. His eyes were dark with desire, his jaw tight with restraint.

"I want you," she said, reaching for him again. "I want all of you."

He kissed her hard, then. His hands gripped her thighs and lifted her onto the desk. The old maps and letters scattered. She didn't care. She fumbled with his belt, his button, his zipper, desperate to feel him. He helped her, shoving his jeans down just enough.

He paused, looking at her with those impossible blue eyes. "Are you sure?"

She pulled him to her. "I've never been more sure of anything."

He entered her slowly, inch by inch, and she felt herself stretch around him. The fullness was exquisite, almost unbearable. She wrapped her legs around his hips, pulling him deeper.

They moved together, finding a rhythm as old as time. His hands gripped her hips, guiding her. Her nails raked down his back. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the small office, raw and primal.

He thrust deeper, harder, and she met him stroke for stroke. The pleasure built again, different this time, deeper, more intense. She felt him trembling, felt his control slipping.

"Kirisa," he groaned. "I can't..."

"Come with me," she whispered, and clenched around him.

He broke. His whole body tensed, and he drove into her one last time, burying himself deep. She felt him pulse inside her, felt the heat of him, and it pushed her over the edge again. They fell together, crying out, clinging to each other as the world dissolved into white-hot pleasure.

They stayed like that for a long moment, foreheads pressed together, breath mingling. His hand came up to cup her face, his thumb tracing her cheekbone.

"Kirisa," he said again, her name a question and a statement.

She opened her eyes. "I know," she whispered. "I feel it too."

They stood there, breathing hard, the weight of the moment settling around them. The sketch of Donovan lay on the floor beside them, a silent witness.

A throat cleared from the doorway. The woman from the front desk. "Julian? Your afternoon appointment is here."

He stepped back, his hands falling from her body. Kirisa felt the loss like a physical ache.

"I have to go," he said, his voice rough. "But I want to see you again. Tonight. Dinner."

"Yes," she said, without hesitation. "Yes."

He smiled, and it was the same smile Donovan had given her by the fire. A promise.

She left the historical society on trembling legs. The air outside was cold, but she felt hot, alive. She touched her lips. They were swollen, still wet with his kiss.

Her world had shifted. She was no longer just Kirisa Bonford, librarian. She was a woman who had kissed a ghost and found him alive in the present. She was a woman on the edge of something vast and terrifying and beautiful.

And she was ready to fall.

Flames of Rebellion

The manuscript called to Kirisa before she even touched it. Nearly a week had crawled by since she'd kissed Julian in the library stacks, and every waking moment since had been filled with restless energy she couldn't explain. She'd researched the Revolutionary War period obsessively, scouring databases and archives for any mention of Donovan Reed. Nothing. But the manuscript knew. She could sense it humming beneath her fingertips as she pulled it from the locked cabinet.

Elmira had gone home hours ago. The library stood empty, the storm outside matching the one building in Kirisa's chest. She didn't hesitate this time. She opened the manuscript to a page she hadn't seen before, the words shimmering gold against aged parchment.

In the year of rebellion, when freedom's flame burned low, two souls found each other in the shadow of war.

The pull came stronger than before, ripping her from the present like a leaf caught in a gale. She landed hard on a dirt floor, the cold seeping through her modern clothes. A fire crackled nearby, casting dancing shadows across rough-hewn walls. The cabin was small, barely more than a single room with a bed in the corner and a table covered in maps.

Donovan stood by the window, a rifle in his hands. He wore buckskins and a linen shirt, his dark hair tied back with leather. His face was harder than the frontier scout she'd met before, lined with tension and exhaustion. But when he turned and saw her, that same recognition flared in his eyes.

"You came," he breathed, setting the rifle aside. "I didn't know if you could. If you would."

"I felt you pulling me." Kirisa's voice came out steadier than she expected. "Where are we?"

"Safe for now. But not for long." He crossed to her, his boots silent on the packed earth. "I'm a spy for the Continental Army. If they find me here, they'll hang me before sunrise."

The danger hit her like cold water. "Then why did you bring me here?"

"Because I couldn't bear another night alone." His hand rose to cup her cheek, his palm rough with calluses. "Because whatever this is between us, it's the only thing that feels real anymore."

Kirisa leaned into his touch, her eyes closing. The fear should have made her pull back, but it only sharpened everything. Every sound from outside could be enemy soldiers. Every shadow could be death. And in the face of that, there was only this. Only him.

"I don't understand how this works," she whispered. "I don't understand why I keep coming back to you."

"Does it matter?" His thumb traced her lower lip. "Do you want to stop?"

"No." The word came out fierce. "God, no."

He kissed her then, and it was nothing like the gentle exploration by the campfire. This was desperate, hungry, a man who might die tomorrow pouring everything into this moment. His hands fisted in her cardigan, pulling her against him as his tongue swept into her mouth. She tasted woodsmoke and coffee and something wilder, something that made her knees weak.

"We don't have much time," he said against her lips. "I have to move before dawn. But I need you, Kirisa. I need to feel alive before I face what's coming."

"Then take me." She was surprised by her own boldness, but the words felt right. "Make me feel alive too."

His eyes darkened. He stepped back just long enough to bolt the cabin door, then returned to her with purpose. His hands found the hem of her sweater, pulling it over her head. The cold air hit her skin, but his gaze was hotter than the fire.

"You're so beautiful," he murmured, tracing the curve of her shoulder. "Every time I see you, I think I dreamed you."

"I'm real." She reached for the ties on his shirt, her fingers clumsy with urgency. "Touch me. Please."

He helped her undress him, the linen falling away to reveal a body honed by survival. Scars crossed his ribs, a fresh bruise darkened his side. She traced them with her fingertips, learning the map of his pain.

"It's nothing," he said, catching her hand. "I've had worse."

"I don't want you to have worse." She pressed a kiss to his chest, right over his heart. "I want you safe."

His breath hitched. He lifted her chin and kissed her again, softer this time, like a promise. Then he guided her to the narrow bed, the straw mattress rustling beneath them as they lay down.

"Tell me if you want to stop," he said, his voice rough. "Tell me if I'm too much."

"You're not." She pulled him down to her. "I want all of you."

He kissed down her throat, her collarbone, pausing to worship each swell of her breasts. His mouth was hot and reverent, drawing sounds from her she didn't know she could make. When he took her nipple between his lips, she arched into him, her fingers tangling in his hair. He drew the tight peak into his mouth, his tongue circling and flicking until she whimpered. Then he turned his attention to the other breast, sucking gently at first, then harder, the suction sending bolts of pleasure straight to her core.

"Donovan." His name was a prayer. "Please."

"Patience," he murmured against her skin, his breath hot and damp. "I want to memorize you. In case I don't make it back."

The words cut through the haze of desire, a reminder of how precious this moment was. She cradled his head against her chest, feeling the roughness of his hair beneath her palms. "You'll make it back. You have to."

He answered by moving lower, his lips trailing down her stomach, her hips. He paused at the waistband of her jeans, looking up at her for permission. She nodded, breathless, and he unfastened them with careful hands.

The cool air hit her bare skin as he slid them down her legs. She felt exposed, vulnerable, but his gaze held nothing but hunger and adoration. He pressed a kiss to her inner thigh, then the other, working his way higher with agonizing slowness. His stubble grazed the sensitive skin, leaving trails of fire in its wake.

"You taste like everything I've been missing," he murmured against her skin. "Like home."

His tongue found her center, and Kirisa's world narrowed to that single point of contact. He explored her with the patience of a man who had all night, even though they had so little time. He started with long, slow strokes, tasting every fold, learning what made her gasp and what made her moan. Then he focused on the swollen bud at her center, circling it with maddening precision before sucking gently.

Kirisa's hips bucked off the mattress. "Oh God, Donovan, right there."

He hummed against her, the vibration sending shockwaves through her body. He slid one finger inside her, then two, curling them to find the spot that made her see stars. The dual sensation of his mouth and hands was too much and not enough, building a pressure that coiled tight in her belly.

"I'm going to..." she panted, her fingers gripping the rough blanket beneath her.

"Let go," he said, his voice vibrating through her. "I've got you."

She shattered, her cry swallowed by the crackling fire. Her walls clenched around his fingers as the orgasm crashed through her in waves. He didn't stop, working her through the aftershocks with gentle strokes of his tongue until she trembled with oversensitivity. Then he kissed his way back up her body, his eyes dark with need.

"I need to be inside you," he said, his voice strained. "Tell me you want that."

"I want it. I want you." She reached between them, finding him hard and ready. He was thick and hot in her hand, and she stroked him slowly, feeling him pulse against her palm. "Now."

He groaned at her touch, his hips jerking forward. "Careful, or this will be over before it begins."

"Then don't make me wait." She guided him to her entrance, lifting her hips in invitation.

He positioned himself above her, his forehead pressed to hers. "Look at me," he said. "I want to see your eyes when we become one."

She met his gaze as he pushed inside her, a slow, steady pressure that stole her breath. He filled her completely, stretching her in a way that felt both foreign and familiar, like coming home to a place she'd never been. She gasped at the fullness, her body adjusting to accommodate him.

"Kirisa." Her name was broken on his lips. "You feel incredible."

"You too," she managed. "Move. Please."

He began to move, a rhythm born of desperation and tenderness. Each thrust pushed deeper, hitting a place inside her that echoed with every lifetime they'd shared. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him closer, wanting to erase all distance between them. He braced himself on his forearms, his face inches from hers, their breath mingling in the small space.

"I've dreamed of this," he said, his voice thick. "Every night in the cold, every moment of fear, I dreamed of you."

"I'm here." She cupped his face, her thumbs stroking his cheekbones. "I'm real."

"Don't stop," she gasped when he shifted angles, hitting something that made her vision blur. "Please, don't ever stop."

"Never." He kissed her, open-mouthed and hungry. "I'll find you in every life. I'll love you in every world."

He slipped a hand between them, his fingers finding where they joined and stroking her in time with his thrusts. The added sensation pushed her higher, the pressure building again with renewed intensity. She could feel herself clenching around him, drawing him deeper.

"I'm close," she said, her nails digging into his back. "Donovan, I'm so close."

"Come with me." His rhythm faltered, his body tensing. "Let go with me."

She fell first, her climax ripping through her like lightning. Her inner walls pulsed around him, and the sensation triggered his own release. He followed a heartbeat later, his groan muffled against her neck as he spilled himself into her. His hips jerked with each pulse, prolonging both their pleasure. They clung to each other as the waves subsided, breathing ragged, hearts pounding in unison.

He rolled to his side, taking her with him so they lay face to face on the narrow bed. His hand traced lazy patterns on her hip as their breathing slowly returned to normal. Neither spoke for a long moment, content to simply exist in this stolen pocket of time.

"I have to go soon," he said, his voice heavy with regret. "But I'll carry this with me. I'll carry you."

"I'll find you again." She pressed a kiss to his heart. "I promise."

The first glow of dawn crept through the cabin's single window. Donovan stirred, reaching for his clothes. Kirisa watched him dress, each buckle and tie a reminder that this moment was borrowed.

"Be safe," she said, her throat tight. "Please."

He knelt beside the bed, cupping her face in his hands. "I will. Because I know you're waiting for me somewhere." He kissed her one last time, soft and sweet. "Go now. Before it's too hard."

The manuscript's pull came without warning, dragging her back through time. She landed in the library with a gasp, her body still humming with the memory of his touch. She looked down at her hands, expecting to see traces of woodsmoke, but there was nothing.

Except the ache between her thighs. The soreness that proved it was real. She pressed her palm to her chest, feeling the echo of his heartbeat beneath her skin.

The wait until the manuscript would let her return stretched before her like an eternity. Days to wait for another taste of forever.

Modern Sparks

The restaurant was the kind of place Kirisa would have walked past a month ago. Candlelight flickered against exposed brick walls. Wine glasses caught amber light. Julian sat across from her, one hand wrapped around his own glass, watching her with that steady gaze that made her feel like the only person in the room.

"You're staring," she said, and felt heat rise to her cheeks.

"I'm appreciating." He smiled, slow and warm. "There's a difference."

She took a sip of wine to hide her smile. The cabernet was rich and dark on her tongue, and she let it linger before swallowing. "And what exactly are you appreciating?"

"The way the light catches your hair." He reached across the table, fingers brushing her wrist. "The way you bite your lip when you're thinking. The way you laughed when I told you about the microfiche incident."

"That was genuinely funny. You fell asleep in the archives."

"I was researching. Deeply."

"You snored."

"Passionately."

She laughed again, and something loosened in her chest. This was different from the library. Different from the stolen kiss between shelves that had left her breathless and confused. This was deliberate. Intentional. A choice she was making with both eyes open.

"Tell me something real," Julian said, and his voice dropped lower. "Not librarian small talk. Something that matters."

Kirisa set down her glass. The wine was making her bold, or maybe it was the way he looked at her, like he already knew her secrets and wanted more. "I've been dreaming about you."

His eyebrows lifted. "That's real enough."

"Not just you. Different versions of you. A scout in the frontier. A soldier in the Revolution." She watched his face, looking for shock or disbelief. Instead she found something like recognition. "Does that sound crazy?"

"It sounds like you're seeing something most people miss." He leaned forward. "I've had dreams too. A woman with hazel eyes and a cardigan. Standing in a library. Reaching for me across a fire."

Kirisa's breath caught. "You remember?"

"I don't know what I remember." He traced the rim of his glass. "But I know I've been looking for you longer than I've known your name."

The words settled between them, heavy and electric. Kirisa felt the weight of them in her chest, in her stomach, in the space between her thighs where a familiar warmth was beginning to build.

"I want to show you something," she said. "After dinner. If you'll let me."

Julian's eyes darkened. "I'll let you show me anything."

They finished their meal in a haze of charged glances and accidental touches. His knee brushed hers under the table. Her foot found his ankle. By the time the waiter brought the check, Kirisa was vibrating with anticipation, every nerve ending tuned to his frequency.

The walk to his apartment was short, but the October air did nothing to cool the heat between them. Julian's hand found the small of her back as they climbed the stairs. His thumb traced circles against her spine through her sweater.

His apartment was warm and cluttered with books. Stacks of them lined the walls, overflowed from shelves onto the floor. A guitar leaned against the couch. The kitchen counters held a half-empty bottle of whiskey and a mug with a faded university logo.

"It's not much," he said, closing the door behind her.

"It's perfect." She turned to face him. "You're perfect."

He stepped closer, and she felt the heat of his body before he touched her. "Kirisa."

"I need to know something." She reached up and touched his jaw. The stubble was rough against her fingertips. "When I kissed you in the library, I felt something. Like I'd been waiting my whole life for that moment."

"I felt it too."

"And when I touched you, I saw things. A campfire. A cabin. A battlefield." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "I saw you."

Julian's hand came up to cover hers. "I don't understand what's happening between us. But I don't want to question it. I just want to be in it. With you."

She kissed him then, hard and hungry. No hesitation. No second-guessing. Her body pressed against his, and she felt the solid warmth of him, the way his arms wrapped around her and pulled her closer.

The kiss deepened. His tongue traced her lower lip, and she opened for him, let him taste her. Her hands slid into his hair, gripping the dark strands, and she pulled him down to her level.

"Julian," she breathed against his mouth.

"Tell me what you want."

"Everything." She pulled back just enough to meet his eyes. "I want to feel you. All of you. I want to know if you feel the same when we're skin to skin."

His breath hitched. "Kirisa, are you sure?"

Instead of answering, she reached for the hem of her sweater and pulled it over her head. The air was cool against her bare arms, against the thin lace of her bra. She watched his gaze travel down her body, watched the hunger sharpen in his eyes.

"I've never been more sure of anything."

He crossed the distance between them in one step. His hands found her waist, warm and rough against her skin. He kissed her shoulder, her collarbone, the curve of her neck. Each touch sent sparks racing down her spine.

"You're beautiful," he murmured against her skin. "God, Kirisa, you're so beautiful."

She pushed his jacket off his shoulders. It fell to the floor with a soft thud. His shirt followed, buttons coming undone under her impatient fingers. When her palms met his bare chest, she felt the steady thrum of his heartbeat, the rise and fall of his breath.

"I've dreamed of this," she said, and her voice was raw. "I've dreamed of touching you like this."

"Show me." He guided her hands lower, over his stomach, to the waistband of his jeans. "Show me what you dreamed."

She worked the button open, the zipper, and pushed the denim down his hips. He stepped out of them, and then they were both in their underwear, standing in the dim light of his living room, and Kirisa felt more exposed and more alive than she had in her entire life.

He led her to the bedroom. The bed was unmade, sheets tangled, and she loved that about him. Loved the mess, the evidence of a real life lived in this space. She lay back on the mattress and watched him climb over her, his body blocking out the light.

"Tell me if you want to stop," he said. "At any point. Tell me and we stop."

"I won't want to stop."

"Promise me anyway."

"I promise." She reached up and cupped his face. "I promise."

He kissed her again, slower this time, a deep exploration that left her gasping. His hand slid down her side, over her hip, and settled on her thigh. His thumb traced circles on her skin, each rotation bringing him closer to the heat between her legs.

"You're shaking," he said.

"I'm not scared."

"I know." He pressed his forehead to hers. "I'm shaking too."

Her bra came off in a single, practiced motion. His mouth found her breast, and she arched into him, a moan escaping her lips. His tongue circled her nipple, teased and tugged until she was writhing beneath him.

"Julian." His name was a prayer on her lips. "Please."

"Please what?"

"I need more."

He smiled against her skin, then blazed a trail of kisses down her ribs, across her stomach, dipping his tongue into the hollow of her navel. She gasped and twisted her fingers into the sheets. His hands gripped her hips, holding her steady as he continued his descent.

"You're trembling again," he murmured, his breath hot against the inside of her thigh.

"I told you, I'm not scared."

"I know what you told me." He pressed his lips to the sensitive skin above the edge of her panties. "But I want to hear what you want."

"You." The word came out ragged. "Your mouth. On me. Please."

He hooked his fingers into the delicate fabric and slid it down her legs with agonizing slowness. The cool air hit her heated flesh, and she shivered despite herself. Then his mouth was there, warm and wet and perfect, and she cried out at the contact.

His tongue found her center and traced slow, deliberate circles. She bucked against him, and he pressed her hips back down with one firm hand. The other hand slid up her body, cupping her breast, rolling her nipple between his fingers.

"God, Julian."

He responded by increasing the pressure, his tongue moving faster now, flicking against the swollen bud of her clit. Two fingers slid inside her, and she clenched around them, desperate for more. He curled them upward, finding the spot that made her vision blur.

"You taste incredible," he said against her. "Like I always imagined you would."

"You imagined this?"

"Every night since the library." His fingers thrust deeper. "Every single night."

The pressure was building, coiling tight in her belly. She grabbed fistfuls of his hair, pulling him closer, grinding against his mouth. He groaned, and the vibration sent her higher. She was close, so close, teetering on the edge.

"Don't stop," she gasped. "Please don't stop."

But he did stop. He pulled back just as she was about to shatter, and she whimpered at the loss.

"I want to be inside you," he said, kissing his way back up her body. "I want to feel you come apart around me."

"Then stop talking and fuck me."

He laughed, low and dark, and the sound vibrated through her chest. He shed his boxers in one swift motion, and then he was above her, naked and hard and so beautiful it made her chest ache. She reached down and wrapped her hand around him, feeling the silken heat of him, the rigid need.

"You feel incredible," she whispered. "I need you. Now."

He positioned himself at her entrance, and she felt the pressure, the promise of what was coming. He met her eyes.

"Look at me," he said. "I want to see you when we become one."

She held his gaze as he pushed inside her. The sensation was overwhelming, a fullness that stretched and filled her completely. She cried out, and he stilled, giving her time to adjust.

"Okay?" he asked.

"More than okay." She wrapped her legs around his waist. "Move. Please move."

He began to thrust, slow and deep, each stroke hitting a spot that made stars burst behind her eyes. Her nails dug into his shoulders, and he groaned, picking up the pace.

"Kirisa." Her name was a growl in his throat. "You feel incredible."

"So do you." She was barely coherent. "God, Julian, you feel so good."

He shifted angles, and she saw white. A cry tore from her throat as he hit that perfect spot again and again. She was climbing, building toward something huge, something that would shatter her completely.

"I'm close," she gasped. "Don't stop."

"I won't." His hand found her clit, rubbing in circles that matched his thrusts. "Come for me, Kirisa. Let me feel you."

She shattered. The orgasm ripped through her, wave after wave of pleasure that left her shaking and crying out his name. He followed moments later, his own release triggered by hers, and she felt him pulse inside her, felt the warmth spread through her core.

They lay tangled together, breathing hard, skin slick with sweat. Kirisa traced patterns on his chest, feeling his heartbeat slow beneath her fingers.

"I felt it," she whispered. "When you came inside me, I felt everything. All of you. All the versions of you."

Julian turned his head to look at her. "I felt it too. Like I was remembering something I'd never lived."

"That's because you have lived it." She propped herself up on her elbow. "You and I have been loving each other for centuries. I've seen it. I've lived it too."

His hand came up to cup her face. "I believe you."

"You do?"

"I don't understand it. But I feel it. Here." He took her hand and pressed it to his chest. "In my heart. In my soul. I know you're telling the truth."

Kirisa felt tears prick her eyes. "I'm scared."

"Of what?"

"Of losing you. Of losing myself. Of unraveling everything I've ever known." She swallowed hard. "But I'm more scared of not trying. Of letting this slip away."

Julian pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. "Then we try. Together. Whatever this is, we face it together."

She buried her face in his neck and breathed him in. For the first time since she'd found the manuscript, she felt like she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

But in the back of her mind, a warning echoed. Every climax risked her lineage. Every moment of pleasure could be unraveling the threads of her own existence.

And she didn't care. For him, she would risk everything.

Electric Dreams

The record spun on the turntable in Kirisa's living room, Jimi Hendrix's guitar wailing through the speakers. She sat cross-legged on the floor, the manuscript open in her lap, her body still humming from the last trip. The 1776 cabin. The way Donovan's hands had felt on her skin. The way his voice had dropped low and rough when he whispered her name.

Julian had texted her earlier that evening. A simple message: "Thinking of you. Can't wait for Friday."

She'd responded with a heart emoji and then immediately felt guilty. Because it wasn't just Julian she was thinking about. It was Donovan. The man who had existed across centuries, whose soul she had touched in the flickering firelight of a revolutionary war camp.

Her fingertips traced the manuscript's pages. The words shimmered slightly, responding to her touch. She'd learned the rhythm now. The way the text would warm beneath her palm, the way the air would grow thick and electric. It was like tuning a radio dial, searching for the right frequency.

Tonight, she felt a different pull. Something lighter, more chaotic. The air in the room seemed to vibrate with an unfamiliar energy. Closing her eyes, she let herself drift, let the manuscript guide her.

The world tilted and spun, colors bleeding at the edges. She heard music first. Not the Hendrix from her living room, but something rawer, louder. Guitars screaming. Drums pounding. A crowd roaring like a living thing.

Kirisa opened her eyes and found herself standing in a field of mud and grass and people. Thousands of them. Maybe hundreds of thousands. They stretched in every direction, a sea of tie-dye and denim and bare skin. The air smelled like weed and sweat and rain-soaked earth.

Woodstock. She was at Woodstock.

Looking down at herself, she saw that her cardigan and jeans were gone. Instead, she wore a flowing peasant blouse, unbuttoned low enough to show the swell of her breasts, and bell-bottom jeans that hugged her hips. Her feet were bare, mud squishing between her toes. A bandana held her hair back from her face.

She felt exposed. But also free. The music vibrated through her bones, and the crowd around her moved like a single organism, swaying and dancing and loving.

"Hey there, beautiful."

The voice came from behind her, low and rough and impossibly familiar. Kirisa turned, her heart already racing.

Donovan stood before her, but he was different from the frontier scout and the revolutionary spy. His dark hair was longer now, falling past his shoulders in tangled waves. A leather vest hung open over a bare chest, his skin gleaming with sweat. A guitar was slung across his back, and his eyes, those piercing blue eyes, held a wild, electric energy.

"Donovan," she breathed.

His grin was slow and wicked. "You know my name. That's groovy. But I don't think we've met."

She stepped closer, her body moving without permission. "We have. In a way."

He tilted his head, studying her. "Far out. I feel like I know you too. Like I've been waiting for you."

The crowd surged around them, but they were in a bubble, a pocket of stillness in the chaos. Donovan reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. His fingers lingered on her neck, and she shivered.

"Come with me," he said. "I've got a tent. It's quieter there."

She should have hesitated. She should have asked questions. But her body was already moving, following him through the crowd, her hand in his.

The tent was small and canvas, lit by a single lantern that cast golden shadows. A sleeping bag lay unrolled on the ground, and the air inside smelled like incense and leather and him. Donovan shrugged off his guitar and set it carefully in the corner.

"You're not like the other girls here," he said, turning to face her. "You've got this look in your eyes. Like you've seen things."

"I have," she said softly. "I've seen you."

He stepped closer, his body heat washing over her. "Tell me."

She shook her head. "You wouldn't believe me."

"Try me."

She looked up at him, at the sharp lines of his jaw, the intensity in his gaze. "I've known you before. In other lives. Other times."

He didn't laugh. He didn't pull away. Instead, he cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs tracing her cheekbones. "I believe you. Because I feel it too. Like I've been searching for you my whole life."

And then he kissed her.

It was different from the other times. Faster, hungrier, fueled by the manic energy of the festival. His mouth was hot and demanding, his tongue sliding against hers as his hands roamed down her body. He gripped her hips, pulling her against him, and she felt the hard length of him pressing through his jeans.

Kirisa moaned into his mouth, her fingers tangling in his hair. The tent walls seemed to pulse with the distant beat of the music, a primal rhythm that matched the throb between her legs.

Donovan broke the kiss, his breath ragged. "I need you," he said. "Right now. I can't wait."

"Then don't," she whispered.

He dropped to his knees in front of her, his hands working at the buttons of her jeans. She watched him, her heart pounding, her body trembling with anticipation. He peeled the denim down her thighs, and she stepped out of them, standing before him in nothing but the peasant blouse and a pair of thin cotton panties.

He looked up at her, his eyes dark with desire. "God, you're beautiful."

He pressed his mouth to her stomach, kissing a trail down her belly. His hands gripped her thighs, spreading them slightly, and she felt the cool air on her most intimate place. Then his fingers hooked into the waistband of her panties, pulling them down slowly, deliberately.

Kirisa gasped as his mouth found her. His tongue was hot and skilled, tracing patterns that made her knees buckle. She gripped his shoulders for support, her head falling back as waves of pleasure washed through her. He started with long, slow strokes, tasting every fold, exploring her with a patience that belied the urgency in his earlier kiss. His tongue circled her clit with deliberate precision, then dipped lower, pushing inside her just enough to make her gasp.

"Donovan," she moaned.

He hummed against her, the vibration sending sparks through her core. His hands gripped her ass, pulling her closer, and he devoured her like a man starving. She could hear the wet sounds of his mouth, could feel the pressure building, coiling tighter with each pass of his tongue. He varied his rhythm, sometimes fast and fluttering, sometimes slow and firm, keeping her on the edge, not letting her fall.

"Please," she gasped, her fingers tightening in his hair. "I need..."

He knew what she needed. His lips closed around her clit, sucking gently as two fingers slid inside her. The dual sensation sent lightning through her veins. His fingers curled, finding the spot deep inside her that made her vision blur, and he worked it in time with his mouth.

"I'm close," she gasped. "I'm so close."

He doubled his efforts, his tongue flicking faster, his fingers pressing deeper. And then she came, a sharp cry escaping her lips as her body shuddered against his mouth. Her walls clenched around his fingers, pulsing with each wave. He didn't stop, licking her through the aftershocks until she was trembling and breathless, her legs barely able to hold her weight.

He stood up, his mouth glistening, and kissed her hard. She tasted herself on his lips, musky and sweet, and it was the most intimate thing she had ever experienced. Her hands fisted in his leather vest, pulling him closer, wanting more, wanting everything.

"Now you," she said, her voice husky with desire.

She pushed him backward, and he fell onto the sleeping bag, landing on his back with a grunt. She climbed on top of him, straddling his hips, and worked at the buckle of his belt. His hands found her breasts through the thin fabric of her blouse, his thumbs circling her nipples until they were hard peaks. She sat up and slowly unbuttoned the rest of her blouse, letting it fall open, then off her shoulders entirely. The lantern light painted her skin gold and shadow.

Donovan's breath caught. His hands covered her breasts, warm and rough-palmed, kneading gently while his thumbs flicked across her nipples. She arched into his touch, a soft moan escaping her lips. Leaning down, she let her nipples brush his chest, the coarse hair scraping against the sensitive peaks as she worked at his belt.

She freed his cock from his jeans, and it sprang up, thick and hard and ready. She wrapped her hand around it, feeling the weight of it, the heat of it, the silken skin stretched taut over rigid flesh. He groaned, his hips thrusting involuntarily. She stroked him slowly, twisting her wrist on the upstroke, spreading the bead of moisture at the tip with her thumb.

"Condom," he said, his voice strained. "In my pocket."

She found it, tore it open with her teeth, and rolled it onto him. Then she positioned herself above him, looking down into his eyes.

"I've been waiting for this," she said. "Across centuries."

She sank down onto him, and they both cried out. He filled her completely, stretching her in a way that was both familiar and new. She held still for a moment, letting her body adjust, feeling him pulse inside her. Then she began to move, a slow, rolling rhythm that built the heat between them. She rose until only the tip remained inside, then sank back down, taking him to the hilt. Each thrust ground her clit against his pelvis, sending sparks through her with every movement.

Donovan's hands found her hips, guiding her, encouraging her. "That's it," he growled. "Take what you need."

She rode him harder, faster, the tent filling with the sounds of their bodies slapping together, their ragged breaths, their moans. The music from outside seemed to sync with their rhythm, a primal soundtrack to their union. She leaned forward, bracing her hands on his chest, and changed the angle, taking him even deeper. He gripped her breasts, thumbing her nipples as she moved, and the added sensation made her whimper.

He sat up suddenly, wrapping his arms around her, and flipped them so she was on her back. He hovered above her, his eyes locked on hers, and thrust deep. The new angle hit a spot inside her that made stars burst behind her eyes. He braced himself on one arm, the other hand gripping her thigh, opening her wider as he drove into her again and again.

"Donovan, yes, right there," she begged.

He drove into her, relentless, his pace building to a frenzy. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper, and felt the pressure building again. Her nails dug into his back, leaving red trails across his sweat-slicked skin, and he hissed in pleasure.

"Harder," she gasped. "I need you harder."

He complied, slamming into her with a force that pushed her into the sleeping bag. The wet sounds of their joining filled the tent, obscene and beautiful. She could feel another orgasm approaching, a tidal wave gathering at the base of her spine.

"Come for me," he commanded, his voice rough and low. "Come for me, Kirisa."

And she did. Her orgasm crashed through her like a wave, pulling him under with her. Her walls clenched around him, rippling and pulsing, and he buried his face in her neck and groaned her name as he spilled himself inside her. His cock throbbed with each pulse, and she felt every twitch even through the thin barrier of latex. He collapsed onto her, his weight a comforting pressure, and they lay there breathing hard, the tent walls still vibrating with the distant music.

Donovan pressed a kiss to her forehead, then her nose, then her lips. He rolled to the side, pulling her with him so they lay face to face, her leg draped over his hip, his softening cock still inside her.

"That was..." he started.

"Electric," she finished.

He laughed, a low, rumbling sound. "Yeah. Electric."

She traced the lines of his face, memorizing him. This version of him. The rock musician with the wild hair and the hungry eyes. She felt a pang of sadness, knowing she would have to leave him soon.

"Will I see you again?" he asked, as if reading her thoughts.

"In another life," she said softly.

He frowned, but before he could speak, she felt the pull. The familiar tug that signaled her return. She kissed him one last time, pouring all her love into it.

"Find me," she whispered. "In every life, find me."

And then she was gone.

Kirisa snapped back into her body, gasping. The manuscript lay closed in her lap, the Hendrix record still spinning on the turntable. Her body was slick with sweat, her thighs still trembling. She could taste him on her lips.

She looked down at herself. Her cardigan was askew, her jeans were still buttoned. But she felt different. She felt powerful. She felt like she had claimed a part of herself she hadn't known was missing.

Her phone buzzed. A text from Julian: "Can we move our date to tonight? I can't wait any longer."

She smiled, a slow, knowing smile. She typed back: "I'll be ready."

But as she set the phone down, she noticed something strange. The air in the room shimmered for just a moment, like heat rising off asphalt. And for a split second, she saw two versions of her living room overlapping. Her bookshelf, and a guitar leaning against a tent pole.

The timeline was shifting. And she had a feeling this was only the beginning.

Fractured Hearts

The first vision hit Kirisa while she was shelving returns. One moment she was reaching for a worn copy of Whitman's Leaves of Grass, the next she was standing in a dusty 1920s speakeasy. Smoke curled around a woman in a beaded dress who laughed with Donovan's voice. His hands were on her hips, his mouth pressed to her throat. The woman turned and Kirisa saw her own face staring back, but older, harder, with dark circles under her eyes.

The book slipped from her fingers. The vision vanished.

Kirisa grabbed the shelf, her heart hammering. The library was quiet, normal, safe. But she felt wrong. Unmoored. Like she was standing in two places at once.

That was three days ago. Now the visions came without warning. At the grocery store she saw Donovan in Revolutionary War uniform arguing with a woman who looked like her grandmother. At home she heard his voice whispering in French, in Spanish, in languages she didn't recognize. Each glimpse left her breathless, disoriented, terrified she was losing her mind.

The worst part was Julian. When she looked at him now, she saw layers. Donovan the scout. Donovan the spy. Donovan the musician. They flickered across his face like static, and she didn't know which version was real, which one she loved, which one would destroy her.

"You're doing it again," Julian said quietly.

They were in his apartment, a glass of wine untouched between them on the coffee table. The autumn rain tapped against the windows, a gentle sound that should have been romantic but felt ominous.

"Doing what?" Kirisa asked, though she knew.

"Looking at me like I'm a stranger." He leaned forward, elbows on his knees. "You've been distant all week. Did I do something?"

"No. It's not you." She couldn't meet his eyes. Couldn't bear to see Donovan's face superimposed over Julian's again. "I'm just... tired."

"Bullshit."

Her head snapped up. Julian rarely cursed. His voice was usually soft, measured, scholarly. But now it had an edge she hadn't heard before.

"You've been pulling away since that night at the festival," he said. "I thought we were getting closer. But you're always somewhere else now. Somewhere I can't reach."

Kirisa's throat tightened. She wanted to tell him everything. The visions, the timeline fractures, the terrifying feeling that she was unraveling. But how could she explain that she'd been sleeping with versions of him across centuries? That she'd tasted his mouth when he was a frontier scout and felt his hands when he was a rock musician? That she was falling in love with a ghost who wore his face?

"There's someone else," Julian said flatly.

"No. There's no one else." It was the truth. There was only him, multiplied, fractured, echoing across time.

"Then what is it?" His voice cracked. "Because I'm in love with you, Kirisa. And I feel like I'm losing you to something I can't see."

The words hit her like a physical blow. He loved her. Of course he did. She'd felt it in every lifetime, every touch, every whispered promise. But hearing him say it in the present, in his quiet apartment with rain on the windows, broke something open inside her.

"I'm scared," she whispered.

"Of what?"

"Of hurting you. Of hurting myself. Of..." She stood, pacing. The room felt too small. "I've been having these dreams. Visions. I see you in other times, other places. I see us together, but different. And I don't know what's real anymore."

Julian was quiet for a long moment. When he spoke, his voice was careful. "What do you see?"

"You in the woods. A campfire. A cabin during the Revolution. A music festival. You're always you, but you're not. You have different names. Different lives." She stopped pacing, facing him. "And I'm there too. In every one."

He stood slowly, crossing to her. His hand cupped her cheek, warm and solid. "That sounds like more than dreams."

"It is." Her voice broke. "I found a manuscript at the library. An old book. When I touch it, I go places. I go to you. To all the versions of you that came before."

She expected him to pull away. To call her crazy. Instead, his thumb traced her cheekbone with devastating tenderness.

"I knew you were special the moment I saw you," he said. "I felt like I'd been waiting for you my whole life. Like I'd been searching for something I couldn't name, and then there you were."

"Julian..."

"I don't understand what's happening to you. But I know what I feel. And I'm not letting you go just because it's strange."

Kirisa's eyes burned. "What if I'm dangerous? What if being with me hurts you?"

"Then I'll take the risk."

She kissed him then, desperate and hungry. The taste of him was familiar and foreign, every version of Donovan bleeding into this one. Her fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer, needing him to anchor her to the present.

Julian responded with a roughness she hadn't felt from him before. His hands gripped her hips, pulling her against him. He walked her backward until her spine met the wall, and then he was all around her, his mouth on her throat, his breath hot against her skin.

"I've been so fucking scared," he muttered against her collarbone. "Watching you drift away. Not knowing how to bring you back."

"I'm here now."

"Prove it."

His hands found the hem of her sweater, pulling it up and over her head. The cool air hit her skin, but his mouth was hot, trailing down her chest, her stomach. He knelt, unbuckling her jeans, pulling them down her thighs. She stepped out of them, watching him through half-closed eyes.

He looked up at her, his gaze heavy with need. "Tell me you're mine. In this life. In every life."

"I'm yours."

He pressed his mouth to the damp fabric of her underwear, and she gasped. His hands gripped her thighs, spreading them, and he worked her slowly, deliberately, through the thin cotton. Her hips rocked against his mouth, seeking more pressure, more friction. The fabric grew wetter, clinging to her, and his tongue pushed it against her swollen flesh, circling her clit with maddening patience.

"Julian, please."

"Please what?" His breath was hot through the cotton, his voice rough. "Tell me what you need."

"More. I need more."

He hooked his fingers in the waistband of her underwear and dragged it down slowly, pressing kisses to her hip bones, the crease of her thigh, the soft skin below her navel. When the fabric finally fell away, he paused, looking at her. His eyes were dark, almost black, and his jaw was tight with restraint.

"You're beautiful," he said. "Every version of you. But this one..." His hands slid up the backs of her thighs. "This one is mine."

Then his mouth was on her, hot and wet and devastating. No barrier now, just his tongue sliding through her folds, tasting her, opening her. She cried out, her hands fisting in his hair. He licked her with long, slow strokes, then faster, harder, circling her clit before sucking it gently between his lips. Her knees trembled. She braced herself against the wall, her head thrown back, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

He slid two fingers inside her, curling them upward, pressing against the spot that made her see stars. His tongue never stopped, working her in rhythm with his hand, and she felt the pressure building, coiling tight in her belly. The visions flickered at the edges of her consciousness. Donovan at a campfire. Donovan in a tavern. Donovan on a stage. All of them, the same mouth, the same hands, the same hunger.

"Don't stop," she begged. "Please don't stop."

He didn't. He increased the pressure, his fingers thrusting deeper, his tongue relentless. She shattered with a cry, her body clenching around his fingers, her release flooding his mouth. He worked her through it, slowing gradually, until she was trembling and oversensitive and begging him to stop.

He stood, his chin wet, his eyes blazing. He caught her face in his hands and kissed her, and she tasted herself on his tongue. The intimacy of it made her dizzy.

"Bedroom," he said. "Now."

She walked on unsteady legs. He followed, his hands on her hips, his mouth on her shoulder. By the time they reached the bed, he was pulling at his own clothes, shedding his shirt, unbuckling his belt. She turned to help him, her fingers fumbling with his buttons, and he let her, watching her face with an intensity that made her breath catch.

His body was lean and strong, the body of a scholar who still worked with his hands. But when he climbed onto the bed, there was something else in his movements. Something older. Wilder. The ghost of every Donovan she'd known flickered beneath his skin.

"Turn over," he said, his voice low.

She obeyed, rolling onto her stomach. His weight settled over her, his chest against her back, his mouth at her ear.

"I've been patient," he said. "I've been gentle. But I need to feel you. All of you. I need to know you're real."

"I'm real."

"I need to feel you," he said. "I need to feel you." His hand slid down her spine, cupping her ass, squeezing. "I need to be inside you when you come again. I need to feel it."

His fingers found her from behind, sliding through the wetness, testing her readiness. She was more than ready. She was aching. She pushed back against his hand, and he groaned.

"Jesus, Kirisa."

He entered her from behind, slow and deep. She moaned, pressing back against him, taking him inch by inch until he filled her completely. His hand found her throat, not squeezing, just resting there, a claim. His other hand gripped her hip, holding her steady as he began to move.

Each thrust was deliberate, almost punishing. He pulled back slowly, then drove forward, burying himself to the hilt. She gasped with each stroke, her fingers clutching the sheets. He was taking her, claiming her, and she surrendered completely.

"You feel so good," he said against her ear. "So tight. So wet. You're mine, Kirisa. Say it again."

"I'm yours. I'm yours."

His hand slid from her hip to her clit, circling it as he thrust. The dual sensation was overwhelming. She pushed back to meet each stroke, taking him deeper, and he responded with a rough sound that vibrated through her whole body.

The visions flickered at the edges of her consciousness, but she pushed them away. She focused on his breath in her ear, his sweat on her skin, the way he said her name like a prayer.

"Kirisa. God, Kirisa."

He increased his pace, his thrusts harder, faster, his fingers relentless on her clit. She felt the pressure building again, a wave cresting, and this time she let it pull her under.

"Come with me," she gasped. "Julian, come with me."

He drove into her one final time, his body going rigid, his breath catching. She came with a cry that was almost a sob, her body clenching around him, pulling him deeper. He followed moments later, his body shuddering against hers, his face buried in her hair, her name on his lips like a benediction.

They collapsed together, breathing hard. His weight was warm and solid on her back, and she didn't want him to move. He didn't. He stayed inside her, softening slowly, his mouth pressing lazy kisses to her shoulder.

Finally, he rolled to the side, pulling her with him so they lay tangled together, face to face. Kirisa's mind was quiet for the first time in days. The visions had receded, leaving only the warm weight of his body against hers, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

"There's something I need to tell you," Julian said quietly.

She tensed. "What?"

He rolled onto his back, staring at the ceiling. "My grandmother. She had a book. An old manuscript she kept in a locked box. She told me once that it was special, that it belonged to our family. That it chose who could read it."

Kirisa's blood ran cold. "What kind of book?"

"Leather bound. Handwritten. She said it had been passed down through generations. That it was how our family found love." He turned to look at her. "I never believed her. I thought it was just a story. But after what you told me..."

"Where is it now?"

"She gave it to the library. Years ago. Said it belonged there, with people who would understand it."

The library. Her library. The manuscript she'd found in the restricted collection. The one that had started everything.

"Your grandmother," Kirisa said slowly. "What was her name?"

"Margaret Reed."

The name hit her like a punch to the chest. Margaret Reed. The same name written in the front of the manuscript. The same handwriting that had cataloged the book decades ago.

"The manuscript," she whispered. "It belonged to your family."

"I think it chose you." He took her hand, squeezing it. "I think it's been leading us to each other all along."

Kirisa stared at him, the pieces falling into place. The manuscript wasn't just a tool for time travel. It was a bridge. A connection between their families, their bloodlines, their souls. Every time she'd touched it, every time she'd crossed through time to find him, she'd been following a path laid out generations before.

"Your grandmother," she said. "Did she... did she use it?"

Julian was quiet for a long moment. "She told me once that she'd seen things. Places. People she couldn't explain. She said the book showed her the man she was meant to love, and she spent her whole life looking for him."

"Did she find him?"

"My grandfather. She said he wasn't what she expected. But he was exactly what she needed."

Kirisa's eyes filled with tears. She understood now. The manuscript wasn't a curse. It wasn't a threat to her lineage. It was a gift. A legacy of love that transcended time.

She turned to Julian, pressing her forehead to his. "I'm sorry I pulled away. I was so scared of losing myself that I almost lost you."

"You won't lose me," he said. "I've been waiting for you my whole life. I'm not going anywhere."

She kissed him softly, then deeper, pouring all her fear and hope and love into it. When they broke apart, she felt lighter. Clearer. The visions still lurked at the edges, but they didn't frighten her anymore.

She was exactly where she was meant to be.

Converging Fates

The manuscript didn't hum tonight. It screamed.

Kirisa sensed it before her fingers grazed the leather, a vibration crawling up her spine and settling behind her eyes like a migraine made of lightning. The library stood empty around her. The storm outside had finally broken, and the air carried the scent of ozone and wet earth, thick and electric. This moment had been coming for days. She had carried the knowledge of it in her marrow, a pressure that made sleep impossible and food taste like ash on her tongue.

Julian had called three times. She let each one go to voicemail. She couldn't speak to him, not until she understood what was happening to her, what she was becoming.

Her hands trembled as she lifted the manuscript from its case. The leather radiated warmth, almost hot against her palms, and the pages glowed with a light that pulsed in the rhythm of a living heart. She opened it to the final blank page and found her own reflection staring back at her. Not as she was now, but as she could be. As she was becoming.

"I know you're there," she whispered into the glow. "I know you're both there."

The light flared.

She didn't fall. Something pulled her. Tore her. Unraveled every thread of her being and rewove them in the space between breaths.

The world reformed around her slowly, like honey dripping from a spoon. She stood in a place that was no place at all. The cabin from 1776 bled into Julian's apartment, which bled into the festival tent, which bled into the library stacks. Walls shimmered and dissolved. The floor was grass and hardwood and mud and carpet all at once. The air carried woodsmoke and patchouli and rain and the heavy musk of arousal.

And in the center of it all, two men stood waiting.

Donovan wore buckskin and linen, his dark hair loose around his shoulders, his blue eyes burning with recognition. Julian stood in a simple sweater and jeans, his scholar's hands trembling at his sides. They looked at each other, then at her, and in that moment, Kirisa understood.

They were the same. They had always been the same.

"You came," Julian said, his voice cracking. "I felt you pulling. I thought I was losing my mind."

"You're not mad," Donovan said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to come from everywhere at once. "You're here. We're all here."

Kirisa took a step forward. The ground shifted beneath her, but she didn't fall. She was learning to walk in this space, this between place where time held no meaning and the rules of the world were written by desire alone.

"I've been so afraid," she said, her voice echoing strangely. "Afraid of losing myself. Of losing my family. Of destroying everything I came from."

"And now?" Julian asked.

She looked at them, at the two faces that were the same face, the two souls that beat as one. "Now I'm more afraid of not having you."

Donovan crossed the space first. His boots made no sound on the shifting ground. He reached her and cupped her face in his calloused hands, and the tenderness in his touch made her knees buckle.

"I've waited lifetimes for you," he said. "I've died and been reborn and died again, always reaching for you, always finding you just out of reach."

"I know." Her voice was barely a whisper. "I felt it. Every time."

Julian joined them, his hand sliding into hers, his thumb tracing circles on her palm. "I didn't understand why I couldn't let you go. Why every moment away from you felt like drowning."

"Because you're mine," Kirisa said, and the words fell like a spell. "You're both mine. And I'm yours."

The space around them pulsed. The walls breathed. The floor sighed.

Donovan kissed her first, deep and slow, his tongue sliding against hers with the patience of a man who had centuries to spend. His beard scraped her chin. His hands slid down her back, pulling her against the hard warmth of his body. She could feel his arousal through the buckskin, thick and insistent against her belly.

Then Julian's hands were on her too, sliding under her cardigan, pushing it off her shoulders. His mouth found her neck, her collarbone, the curve where her shoulder met her throat. His touch was different, softer, more hesitant, but no less desperate. His lips left a trail of heat across her skin.

"I need you," Julian breathed against her collarbone. "I need to feel you. All of you."

"Then take me," she said. "Both of you. Take me."

Clothes dissolved like morning mist. One moment she was dressed, the next she stood naked between them, her skin flushed and slick with sweat, her nipples hardening in the cool air. Donovan knelt before her, his mouth finding her stomach, her hips, the inside of her thighs. His breath was hot against her most intimate flesh, and she shivered. Julian stood behind her, his chest pressed against her back, his hands cupping her breasts, his lips on her ear.

"You're so beautiful," Julian murmured, his fingers rolling her nipples into tight peaks. "I've never seen anything so beautiful."

"She's a goddess," Donovan said, looking up at her with worship in his eyes. "My goddess. My heart. My home."

Kirisa's eyes filled with tears. She had never been so seen, so wanted, so completely loved.

"I love you," she said, and the words hung in the air like a promise. "I love you both. I've always loved you. I'll always love you."

Donovan's mouth found her center, and she gasped. His tongue was hot and skilled, tracing patterns that made her toes curl and her hips buck against him. He tasted her slowly at first, savoring her, his lips and tongue working in tandem against her swollen flesh. Julian's hands never stopped moving, stroking her breasts, her stomach, the curve of her waist, grounding her in the present while Donovan pulled her into the past.

"Don't stop," she breathed. "Please. Don't stop."

Donovan's tongue found her clit and circled it with maddening patience. He sucked gently, then harder, his fingers joining the exploration, sliding inside her with a slow, deliberate thrust that made her cry out. Julian pinched her nipples, rolling them between his fingers, and the dual sensation sent sparks cascading through her nervous system.

The tension built slowly, a wave that grew and grew until it crashed over them. Donovan's tongue pushed her higher, Julian's fingers worked her nipples, and she was suspended between them, held by two sets of hands, two hearts beating in perfect sync.

Then the wave crested, and she shattered.

But it wasn't enough.

The orgasm faded, leaving her trembling and aching for more. She needed them inside her. She needed to be filled, claimed, consumed.

"I need you," she said, her voice raw. "I need you both inside me. Now."

Donovan stood, his cock hard and slick with his own need, jutting from his body with an urgency that made her mouth water. Julian stepped around to face her, his erection pressing against her stomach, the head already weeping with desire. They were both beautiful, perfect, completely hers.

"How?" Julian asked, his voice hoarse. "How do we..."

"Like this," Kirisa said, and she sank to her knees.

The ground was soft beneath her, yielding like a bed that had been waiting for her. She took Julian in her mouth first, feeling his gasp ripple through his entire body. His taste was salt and musk and something sweet, something that tasted like home. Her hand found Donovan, stroking him in long, firm pulls as she worked her mouth on Julian, and the dual sensation made her moan around the cock filling her throat.

"Kirisa," Julian gasped, his fingers tangling in her hair. "God, Kirisa."

"Don't hold back," she said, pulling away for a moment, her breath hot against his wet shaft. "I want to feel you. I want to taste you. I want to be covered in you."

The filth of her words surprised her, but it felt right. It felt true. This was the other side of love, the raw and desperate need that lived beneath the tenderness. She had spent so long being afraid of it, of the hunger that burned in her chest. But here, in this space between worlds, she could let it consume her.

She took Julian deeper, until her nose pressed against his stomach, and she felt him hit the back of her throat. She swallowed around him, and he groaned, his hips jerking forward involuntarily. Her hand moved faster on Donovan, twisting on the upstroke, and she felt him swell, felt his breath quicken.

"I'm close," Donovan warned, his voice tight. "I can't..."

"Come," she said, pulling away from Julian. "Come for me. Both of you."

Julian's hands tightened in her hair as he spilled across her tongue, hot and thick and perfect. She swallowed what she could, the rest dripping down her chin. Donovan followed a moment later, his release painting her hand, her face, her chest. She stroked him through it, milking every drop, her eyes closed in bliss.

She looked up at them, covered in their desire, and she had never felt more powerful.

"Now," she said, rising to her feet. "I need you inside me. I need to feel you both at once."

They laid her down on the shifting ground, and the surface molded to her body, holding her like a lover. Julian positioned himself between her legs, his cock pressing against her entrance. Donovan knelt beside her head, his hand stroking her hair.

"Are you sure?" Julian asked, his eyes searching hers. "If this breaks the timeline..."

"I don't care," she said. "I choose you. I choose this. I choose us."

He entered her slowly, inch by inch, and the sensation was overwhelming. She was so full, so completely filled by him. But it wasn't enough. She needed more.

"Donovan," she breathed. "I need your mouth. I need to taste you again."

He understood. He moved forward, his cock brushing her lips, and she opened for him. The taste of him mixed with the taste of Julian, and the world narrowed to this single moment of perfect connection.

Julian began to move, his hips rocking against hers, each thrust sending waves of pleasure through her body. He started slow, almost unbearably so, pulling nearly all the way out before sliding back in to the hilt. She could feel every inch of him, every ridge and vein, and she whimpered around Donovan's cock in her mouth.

Donovan moved in her mouth, not thrusting, just letting her take him at her own pace. She swirled her tongue around the head, tasting the salt of him, the musk, the lingering sweetness of his earlier release. He hardened again against her tongue, growing thick and full as she worked him with lips and teeth and tongue.

Julian's pace quickened. His thrusts grew harder, deeper, each one driving the breath from her lungs. He gripped her hips, angling her upward, and the new position hit something inside her that made stars explode behind her eyes. She cried out, muffled by Donovan's cock, and her inner walls clenched around Julian.

"God, you're tight," Julian groaned. "You feel so good. So perfect."

"She was made for us," Donovan said, his voice thick with renewed arousal. "Made to take us both. Made to be ours."

Kirisa's hips rose to meet Julian's thrusts, her body moving of its own accord. The pleasure was building again, coiling in her belly like a spring wound too tight. Donovan's cock slid deeper into her throat, and she swallowed around him, taking him as deep as she could.

"I can feel it," Julian gasped, his rhythm faltering. "I can feel the timeline. It's straining."

"Don't stop," she said, pulling away from Donovan for a moment. "Don't you dare stop."

She felt it too. The fabric of reality was stretching, thinning, threatening to tear. She saw her family line in her mind's eye, a golden thread that stretched back through centuries and forward into an uncertain future. It was fraying, the strands separating.

All she had to do was stop. Pull back. Save herself and everyone who came before her.

But she was so close. They were all so close.

Julian drove into her with renewed urgency, his thrusts becoming harder, more desperate. Donovan's cock filled her mouth again, and she sucked him with abandon, her tongue working the sensitive underside as he pushed deeper.

"I love you," she said, the words muffled and broken. "I love you both. I will always love you."

She let go.

The orgasm hit her like a comet, burning through every nerve, every cell, every atom of her being. Her body convulsed around Julian, her walls clenching and releasing in waves as he came inside her with a shout, his release hot and thick and endless. Donovan spilled across her tongue a heartbeat later, his cock pulsing as he filled her mouth, and she swallowed every drop, her throat working around him.

In that moment, the timeline didn't break.

It rewrote itself.

The golden thread didn't snap. It wove itself into a new pattern, one that included all of them. The past and present and future merged into a single point of light, and Kirisa was at the center, holding them all together.

The aftershocks rippled through her for what felt like hours. Julian collapsed beside her, his breath coming in ragged gasps. Donovan lay on her other side, his hand tracing lazy patterns on her sweat-slicked skin. The space around them settled, the shifting walls and floors becoming still, as if the universe itself was holding its breath.

When she opened her eyes, she was lying on the library floor. The manuscript was closed beside her. The storm had passed.

And Julian was there, holding her in his arms.

"It's done," he said, his voice shaking. "I can feel it. We're safe."

"We're together," she corrected. "That's what matters."

She looked at the manuscript, and for a moment, she thought she saw a flicker of movement in the pages. A shadow that might have been a man in buckskin. A whisper of a voice that might have been a promise.

She smiled.

The destiny rewrite had begun.

Eternal Binding

The morning light fell through the library's tall windows in dusty golden shafts, illuminating the manuscript where it lay open on Kirisa's desk. She hadn't left the building all night. After the liminal space had released her, she'd stumbled back into the special collections room, her body still trembling with the echoes of that impossible union, and she'd watched the pages settle into a quiet glow.

It was different now. The manuscript no longer thrummed with urgent power. It hummed, low and steady, like a heartbeat.

Kirisa ran her fingers over the vellum, feeling the warmth of it. Everything had become clear. The book wasn't a doorway. It was an anchor. And she had been pulling herself through time, trying to find her way home to him. But she'd been doing it wrong. The jumps weren't meant to be escapes or adventures. They were invitations. And she had finally accepted.

She picked up her phone and called Julian.

He answered on the first ring. "Kirisa. I was about to drive over. Are you alright?"

"I'm more than alright." Her voice was steady, clear. "I need you to come to the library. Right now. I know what we have to do."

"Tell me."

"I can't explain it. I need to show you. But I promise, when this is over, we'll never have to be apart again."

There was a pause. Then, softly, "I'm on my way."

She hung up and looked at the manuscript. The pages had settled on a specific passage, one she hadn't seen before. The ink was fresh, as if written just for her.

Bind the thread. Close the loop. Surrender completely and the circle becomes a line.

Kirisa traced the words. The truth of it resonated through her bones. The climaxes, the returns, the way each encounter had pulled her back just as she was about to lose herself completely. It wasn't a flaw in the magic. It was the design. The manuscript was teaching her, slowly, how to give herself fully without fear. And now she was ready.

The front door of the library chimed. Kirisa heard Julian's footsteps, quick and purposeful, and then he was there, standing in the doorway of the special collections room. His dark hair was slightly disheveled, his blue eyes searching her face with concern and hope.

"You look different," he said.

"I feel different." She stood up and crossed to him. She took his hands. "I know what this is, Julian. I know what we are."

"Tell me."

"We're soulmates. Not in some vague romantic way. Literally. Our souls are the same soul, split across time, and the manuscript was meant to help us find each other again." She squeezed his hands. "But every time I jumped, I was afraid. I held back. I didn't fully surrender. And that's why I kept getting pulled back."

Julian's eyes widened. "You think if you surrender completely, you'll stay?"

"No. I think if we surrender together, the connection stabilizes. We don't have to jump anymore. We can just be together. Here. In all times at once."

He was silent for a long moment. Then he pulled her into his arms. "I've been waiting for you across centuries, Kirisa. I'll follow you anywhere."

"Then follow me now."

She led him to the manuscript. The pages glowed softly, casting warm light on their faces. Kirisa gazed at Julian, at the man who had been a scout and a spy and a musician and a scholar, who had loved her in every lifetime, who had been waiting for her to be brave enough to claim him.

"I need you to trust me," she said.

"I do."

"Then touch the page with me."

He placed his hand beside hers on the vellum. The moment their skin made contact, the glow intensified, wrapping around them like warm silk. Kirisa felt the pull, but it wasn't the urgent yank of before. It was a gentle invitation, a door opening.

She looked at Julian. "Don't let go."

"I won't."

And then they stepped through together.

The library dissolved. For a moment, there was only light, warm and golden, and the sensation of falling upward. Kirisa felt Julian's hand in hers, solid and real, and she held on. She wasn't afraid. She had been afraid for too long. Now she was ready.

They landed in a space that was not a space. It was everywhere and nowhere, a vast library that stretched in all directions, shelves fading into infinity. The light here was soft, eternal. And they were alone.

Julian looked around, awe on his face. "Where are we?"

"The place between. The space where all times meet." Kirisa turned to face him. "This is where we bind ourselves. Permanently."

"How?"

She stepped closer. She reached up and touched his face, tracing the line of his jaw, feeling the warmth of his skin. "We give ourselves completely. No fear. No holding back. We become one, and that union seals the connection forever."

Julian's breath caught. "Kirisa. If we do this, there's no going back. You understand that?"

"I understand. I don't want to go back. I want to go forward. With you."

He kissed her then, deep and slow, and Kirisa felt the kiss resonate through her entire being. It wasn't just physical. It was spiritual, a merging of essences that had been separated for too long. She melted into him, her hands sliding into his hair, pulling him closer.

The kiss deepened. Julian's hands found her waist, then her hips, pulling her against him. She could feel his arousal, hard and urgent, and she pressed into it, wanting to feel all of him. They had done this before, in so many forms, but this was different. This was the final time. The one that would last.

Kirisa broke the kiss and began unbuttoning her blouse. Julian watched her, his eyes dark with desire and reverence. She let the blouse fall to the floor, then reached behind her and unhooked her bra. The cool air of the timeless library kissed her skin, and she shivered.

"You're so beautiful," Julian breathed.

"I want you to see all of me. I want you to feel all of me."

He stepped forward and cupped her breasts, his thumbs brushing over her nipples. Kirisa gasped, arching into his touch. He lowered his head and took one nipple into his mouth, sucking gently, then harder, while his hand worked the other. The sensation was electric, sending sparks straight to her core.

Julian's tongue traced wet circles around her peaked nipple, then he drew it into his mouth with a gentle suction that made Kirisa's knees buckle. His other hand kneaded her breast, rolling the sensitive bud between his thumb and forefinger, plucking at it with just enough pressure to make her gasp. She tangled her fingers in his dark hair, holding him to her chest as heat pooled between her thighs.

He switched, his mouth finding her other breast while his hand continued to toy with the first, wet and swollen from his attention. Kirisa's head fell back, a soft moan escaping her lips. The golden light around them seemed to pulse with her heartbeat, brightening each time Julian's tongue flicked across her sensitive flesh.

Kirisa's hands found the hem of his shirt. She pulled it over his head, revealing the lean muscles of his chest, the light dusting of dark hair. She ran her hands over him, feeling the heat of his skin, the steady beat of his heart. He was real. He was here. And he was hers.

She dropped to her knees.

Julian's breath hitched. "Kirisa..."

She looked up at him, her hands working at his belt. "I want to taste you. I want to feel you in my mouth when we become one."

He groaned, his hands tangling in her hair as she freed his cock. It was hard and thick, the tip already glistening. Kirisa leaned forward and took him into her mouth, slowly, savoring the weight of him on her tongue.

Julian gasped. "God, Kirisa..."

She moved her head, taking him deeper, her tongue swirling around the head. She loved the sounds he made, the way his hips bucked slightly, the way his hands tightened in her hair. She wanted to give him everything, to worship him with her mouth.

Kirisa worked him slowly, her lips sliding down his shaft until she could feel him at the back of her throat. She swallowed around him, and Julian made a strangled sound, his fingers clenching in her hair. She pulled back, her tongue tracing the sensitive underside of his cock, then took him deep again. She established a rhythm, her mouth warm and wet, her hand wrapping around the base where her lips couldn't reach.

"Kirisa," Julian groaned, his voice thick with pleasure. "That feels... you feel so good."

She hummed around him, the vibration making him jerk. She could feel him getting harder, the tension building in his body. She wanted to feel him come apart in her mouth, to taste his release, but she also wanted more. She wanted to feel him inside her when the binding sealed them together.

But he pulled her up before she could finish.

"Not like this," he said, his voice rough. "I want to be inside you when we come together. I want to feel you around me."

Kirisa nodded, her body aching with need. She stepped out of her skirt and panties, standing naked before him. Julian shed the rest of his clothes, and then they were skin to skin, the warmth of their bodies blending in the golden light.

He guided her to a soft surface that appeared beneath them, a bed of velvet and silk that seemed to materialize from the space itself. Kirisa lay back, her hair spreading around her like a halo. Julian knelt between her legs, looking down at her with an expression of pure adoration.

"I've loved you in every lifetime," he said. "And I'll love you in every one to come."

"Show me."

He lowered himself, his mouth finding hers in another deep kiss. Then he began to move downward, his lips trailing over her throat, her collarbone, the swell of her breasts. He took each nipple into his mouth, lavishing attention on them until Kirisa was writhing beneath him.

"Please," she whispered. "I need you."

"Not yet." His voice was a low growl. "I want to taste you first. I want to feel you come on my tongue before I fill you."

He moved lower, his hands parting her thighs. Kirisa felt the cool air on her wetness, and then his mouth was on her, his tongue sliding through her folds. She cried out, her hips bucking as he found her clit, circling it with perfect pressure.

Julian worked her with skill and devotion, his tongue and fingers moving in tandem, bringing her higher and higher. He sucked gently on her swollen bud while sliding two fingers inside her, curling them to find that spot that made her see stars. Kirisa's hands fisted in his hair, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

"Julian," she moaned, her hips rocking against his face. "Yes, right there. Don't stop."

He didn't stop. His tongue moved faster, flicking and circling, his fingers thrusting in a steady rhythm that matched the pounding of her heart. Kirisa could feel the tension building, coiling tight in her belly, ready to snap.

She was close, so close, but she didn't want to come without him.

"Stop," she gasped. "I want you inside me. Now."

He lifted his head, his chin glistening. "Are you sure?"

"I've never been more sure of anything."

He positioned himself at her entrance, the tip of his cock pressing against her. Kirisa looked into his eyes, seeing the depth of his love, the eternity of his devotion.

"Do it," she whispered. "Claim me."

And he pushed inside.

The sensation was overwhelming. He filled her completely, stretching her in the most perfect way. Kirisa wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper, wanting to feel every inch of him. Julian began to move, slow and deep, each thrust a declaration of love.

The space around them began to shimmer. The golden light pulsed with their rhythm, the shelves of books vibrating with energy. Kirisa could feel it building, the connection between them growing stronger with every stroke.

Julian's hips moved with deliberate slowness, pulling almost entirely out before sinking back in to the hilt. Each thrust ground against her clit, sending waves of pleasure cascading through her body. Kirisa dug her nails into his shoulders, meeting him thrust for thrust, their bodies finding a rhythm as old as time itself.

"You feel incredible," Julian breathed against her neck, his lips brushing the sensitive skin beneath her ear. "So wet. So tight. So mine."

"Yours," Kirisa echoed, the word a prayer on her lips. "Always yours."

He picked up the pace, his thrusts becoming harder, more urgent. The velvet beneath them seemed to shift and pulse with their movements. Kirisa could feel the pressure building again, that exquisite tension that threatened to consume her.

"Look at me," Julian said, his voice strained with the effort of holding back. "Look at me when we become one."

She met his eyes. And then they both let go.

The orgasm ripped through her, wave after wave of pure ecstasy. She felt Julian stiffen above her, felt his hot release filling her, and at that moment, the world exploded into light.

They were everywhere. They were everywhen. Kirisa saw Donovan by the campfire, his eyes full of longing. She saw the spy in the cabin, his hands on her body. She saw the musician in the tent, his guitar forgotten as he kissed her. She saw Julian in the library, his hands holding hers. She saw them all, and they were all him, and they were all her, and they were one.

The light coalesced, then settled. The infinite library faded, replaced by the familiar walls of the special collections room. Kirisa and Julian lay on the floor, tangled together, the manuscript glowing softly beside them.

Kirisa opened her eyes. She felt different. Complete. Whole.

"Is it done?" Julian asked, his voice hoarse.

She looked at the manuscript. The pages were still, the glow a gentle hum. She reached out and touched it, and she knew. She could feel the connection, stable and eternal, a thread that bound them across all time.

"It's done," she said. "We're bound. Permanently."

Julian pulled her close, burying his face in her hair. "I'm never letting you go."

"You don't have to."

They lay there for a long time, their bodies cooling, their hearts slowing. Kirisa felt a peace she had never known. The fear was gone. The uncertainty was gone. She had claimed her destiny, and it was him.

Later, they dressed in the quiet library. Kirisa looked at the manuscript one last time. It was closed now, the cover smooth and dark. She knew she could open it again, if she wanted. She could visit any time, any place, and find him there. But she didn't need to. He was here, in the present, in her arms.

"Can we go home?" she asked.

Julian took her hand. "We are home."

They walked out of the library together, into the bright Indiana afternoon. The world looked the same, but Kirisa knew it wasn't. She had changed. She had become something more. She had become eternal.

And as Julian squeezed her hand, she knew that whatever came next, they would face it together. Across all ages, in every lifetime, they would find each other. The circle was closed. The line was infinite.

And their love would never end.
