Arrival and Aged Temptation
The gravel crunched beneath her tires as Harper Coleman pulled her beat-up Honda Civic to a stop in front of the sprawling stone estate. She killed the engine and sat there for a moment, letting the view sink in. Rows upon rows of grapevines stretched across the hillside, their leaves catching the late afternoon sun in shades of deep green and gold. The air smelled of earth and ripening fruit, warm and heavy with promise.
She stepped out of the car, stretching her legs after the long drive from the city. Her auburn hair fell loose around her shoulders, and she smoothed down the hem of her white sundress, suddenly self-conscious. Twenty-two years old, a college graduate, and she still felt like a kid whenever she came here.
The front door of the main house opened, and her breath caught in her throat.
Eric Whitaker stepped onto the porch, wiping his hands on a rag before tossing it over his shoulder. He was taller than she remembered, broader somehow, his shoulders filling out a simple linen shirt that was rolled at the sleeves. His salt-and-pepper hair was thicker at the temples, and the lines around his eyes had deepened, giving his face a weathered, handsome quality that made her stomach flip.
He smiled, and the years between them collapsed.
"Harper Coleman. Look at you." His voice was the same warm baritone she remembered from summer barbecues and holiday dinners, but there was something new in it now. Something that made her skin prickle.
She walked toward him, her sandals clicking against the stone pathway. "Eric. I mean, Mr. Whitaker. Sorry. It's been a while."
He laughed, and the sound rumbled through her chest. "Eric is fine. You're not a kid anymore, Harper. Come here."
He pulled her into a hug, and she melted against him. His arms were solid, his chest warm, and she caught the scent of oak and cedar, something distinctly male underneath. She lingered a second longer than she should have before pulling back.
"Lyla is so sorry she couldn't make it," Harper said, forcing lightness into her voice. "Her internship project ran long. She said she'll try to video call later."
Eric nodded, his eyes scanning her face in a way that felt more intimate than it should. "She told me. But I'm glad you could still come. Happy birthday, by the way. Twenty-two is a milestone."
"Thanks. I figured a weekend at a vineyard beat a crowded bar any day."
"Smart woman." He gestured toward the house. "Let me show you to your room. Then I'll give you the tour."
She followed him inside, watching the way his back moved beneath his shirt, the easy confidence in his stride. The house was beautiful, all exposed beams and hardwood floors, with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the valley. But she barely noticed any of it. Her eyes kept drifting back to him.
He led her up a winding staircase to a room at the end of the hall. The walls were painted a soft cream, and a large bed sat in the center, covered in a quilt that looked handmade. French doors opened onto a small balcony.
"This is lovely," she said, setting her bag on the bed.
"It's the guest room. Lyla's room is down the hall, but since she's not here, you've got the whole floor to yourself." He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. "Make yourself comfortable. When you're ready, meet me in the tasting room. I'll pour you something special."
He left, and she let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. Her hands were trembling slightly, and she pressed them against her thighs to steady them.
Get a grip, Harps. He's your best friend's dad. He's married. He's old enough to be your father.
But the thought didn't settle her. It only made her heart beat faster.
Later, she found him in the tasting room. It was a long, narrow space with a wooden bar that stretched the length of the wall. Bottles lined the shelves behind it, their labels handwritten in elegant script. Eric stood behind the bar, uncorking a bottle of deep red wine.
"You're just in time," he said, pouring two glasses. "This is our 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. Our best vintage in years."
She slid onto a stool across from him, and he pushed a glass toward her. Their fingers brushed, and she felt the contact like a spark.
"To your birthday," he said, raising his glass.
"To the vineyard," she replied, clinking hers against his.
She took a sip. The wine was rich and full-bodied, with notes of blackberry and oak that lingered on her tongue. She closed her eyes, savoring it.
"That's incredible," she said.
"You know your wine." He sounded pleased. "Most people your age are still stuck on cheap beer and sugary cocktails."
She laughed. "My parents were big into wine. They took me to tastings all the time growing up. I guess some of it stuck."
"It shows." He refilled her glass, then his own. "So, what are your plans now that you've graduated? Big city dreams?"
"I'm not sure yet. I have some job prospects in the city, but nothing solid. I wanted to take a breather before jumping into the real world." She traced the rim of her glass with her finger. "This seemed like the perfect escape."
"I'm glad you chose here." His voice dropped, becoming softer. "Lyla talks about you all the time. She says you're the most loyal friend she's ever had."
Warmth spread through her chest, but it was tangled with guilt. Loyal. That was what Lyla thought of her. And here she was, sitting across from Lyla's father, feeling things she had no right to feel.
"She's my best friend," Harper said simply.
"She's lucky." Eric held her gaze, and the moment stretched between them, thick and electric.
She broke it first, taking another sip of wine. "Tell me about the vineyard. How long have you been making wine here?"
He launched into the story, his hands moving as he spoke. He talked about the soil, the climate, the specific techniques he used to coax the best flavor from each grape. She listened, but she was watching him more than hearing the words. The way his lips curved when he smiled. The way his eyes lit up when he talked about his work.
"It sounds like you love it," she said when he finished.
"I do. It's not just a job. It's a part of who I am." He paused, his expression shifting. "I wish I could say the same about everything in my life."
She caught the weight in his words, the hint of something unspoken. "What do you mean?"
He hesitated, then let out a slow breath. "Lyla's mother and I... we've grown apart. It happens. Years of running a business, raising a daughter, and somewhere along the way, you forget why you started."
Harper's heart ached for him, but there was a thrill beneath the sympathy. He was opening up to her. Trusting her.
"I'm sorry," she said softly.
"Don't be. It's not your burden." He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Come on. Let me show you the vines before the sun goes down."
They walked through the rows of grapes, the evening light casting long shadows across the ground. Eric pointed out different varietals, explaining how each one was grown and harvested. She asked questions, partly because she was genuinely interested, partly because she loved hearing him talk.
At one point, she reached out to touch a cluster of grapes, and his hand closed over hers, gently guiding her fingers.
"Be careful," he said, his voice low. "The skins are delicate. You don't want to bruise them."
His hand was warm and rough, calloused from years of work. She looked up at him, and their faces were inches apart. She could see the flecks of gold in his brown eyes, the faint lines around his mouth.
"I'll be careful," she whispered.
He held her gaze for a long moment, then let go, stepping back. The air between them felt charged, like the stillness before a storm.
"The sun is almost down," he said, his voice rougher than before. "We should head back."
She nodded, falling into step beside him. Neither of them spoke, but the silence was filled with everything they hadn't said.
That night, she lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. The room was dark, the only light coming from the moon filtering through the French doors. She could hear the distant sound of crickets and the rustle of leaves in the wind.
Her body was humming with energy, her thoughts circling back to Eric again and again. The way he'd looked at her. The way his hand had felt on hers. The way he'd mentioned his marriage like it was already over.
This is insane, she told herself. He's married. He's Lyla's dad. You're here as a guest.
But the warnings felt hollow, drowned out by the memory of his voice, his eyes, his touch.
She thought about the first time she'd noticed him. She was sixteen, visiting Lyla for the summer. He'd come in from the fields, shirtless and sweating, and she'd felt something shift inside her. A crush, she'd called it then. Harmless. But it hadn't faded over the years. It had only grown, fed by stolen glances and fleeting interactions.
And now she was here. Alone with him. In his house.
She turned onto her side, pressing her thighs together. The ache between them was persistent, demanding. She could feel the heat pooling low in her belly, the slick warmth building between her legs as she replayed the moment in the vineyard. His rough hand covering hers. The gold flecks in his eyes. The way his breath had ghosted across her lips when he'd leaned close.
She slid her hand down her stomach, past the waistband of her shorts, and touched herself through her underwear. The thin cotton was already damp, and she gasped at the contact, her hips tilting forward instinctively.
She closed her eyes, and it was Eric's face she saw. His hands on her body. His mouth on hers.
She pushed beneath the fabric, her fingers finding the slick heat of her center. She was wetter than she expected, swollen and sensitive, and the first stroke made her whimper into the pillow. She bit her lip to keep quiet, her fingers moving in slow circles around her clit. The pleasure built, slow and deep, each movement sending a pulse of warmth through her body.
In her mind, it was his hand between her legs. Those calloused fingers, rough and sure, pressing against her most sensitive flesh. She imagined him leaning over her in the dark, his breath hot against her neck, his voice low and rough as he whispered her name.
"Eric," she breathed, barely audible, testing how it felt to say it.
Her fingers moved faster, slipping through the wetness, two fingers sliding inside herself while her thumb worked her clit. She arched her back, her free hand gripping the quilt beneath her. The ache was building now, intensifying with every stroke, coiling tighter and tighter in her core.
She imagined him above her, his weight pressing her into the mattress, his body moving against hers. The salt-and-pepper hair she'd run her fingers through. The broad shoulders she'd dig her nails into. The deep baritone of his voice, groaning her name as he filled her.
Her hips rocked against her hand, finding a rhythm that matched the fantasy in her head. The wet sounds of her fingers were obscene in the quiet room, and she didn't care. She couldn't think about anything but the heat consuming her, the pressure building toward something she desperately needed.
She added another finger, stretching herself, and the fullness made her gasp. Her inner walls clenched around her fingers, slick and tight, and she wished it was him inside her. His thickness. His weight. The way he would take his time, make her beg for it.
The thought pushed her closer to the edge. Her thumb pressed harder against her clit, rubbing in tight, desperate circles. Her thighs trembled, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps. She was close, so close, the tension winding tighter with every heartbeat.
In her mind, he kissed her. Deep and slow, his tongue tangling with hers, tasting the wine they'd shared. His hands everywhere, rough and gentle at once, claiming every inch of her.
"Please," she whispered into the darkness, not even sure what she was asking for.
The orgasm hit her hard. Her body seized, back arching off the bed, a strangled cry escaping her lips before she could muffle it with the pillow. Her inner walls spasmed around her fingers, pulsing in waves, and the pleasure crashed through her in hot, blinding surges. She rode it out, her fingers still moving, drawing out every last tremor until her body went limp against the mattress.
Afterward, she lay there, her heart pounding, guilt and satisfaction warring in her chest. Her fingers were still inside her, still wet, and she could feel the aftershocks of her release fluttering through her core. She withdrew her hand slowly, wiping it on her shorts, and stared at the ceiling.
What are you doing, Harper?
She didn't have an answer. But she knew one thing for certain.
She wasn't going to stop.

What are you doing, Harper?
She didn't have an answer. But she knew one thing for certain.
She wasn't going to stop.
Midnight Barrel Room
Sleep wouldn't come.
Harper lay in the canopy bed, the sheets tangled around her legs, the summer air thick with the scent of jasmine drifting through the open window. She'd been staring at the ceiling for what felt like hours, replaying every glance from the tasting, every word Eric had spoken, every accidental brush of his hand against hers.
The way he'd looked at her when he said his marriage was distant.
The way his voice dropped low when he described the wine's finish.
The way her body had responded, heat pooling low in her belly, nipples tightening beneath her sundress.
She couldn't stay in this room. The walls felt too close, the silence too loud with her own thoughts. She needed air, movement, something to burn off this restless energy that had been building since the moment she'd stepped out of her car and seen him waiting on the porch.
Harper pulled on a light cardigan over her tank top and slipped into a pair of sandals. The house was quiet, the old floors creaking softly as she made her way down the grand staircase. Moonlight streamed through the tall windows, casting silver patterns across the hardwood.
She didn't know where she was going. Just out. Just away from the four walls that held her fantasies captive.
The back door opened onto a stone patio that led to the vineyard. The rows of vines stretched into the darkness, ghostly in the moonlight. But off to the left, a warm glow spilled from the low stone building she'd noticed during the tour.
The barrel room.
Her feet carried her before her mind caught up. The gravel path crunched beneath her sandals, the night air cool against her heated skin. Crickets sang their summer song, and somewhere in the distance, an owl called out.
The barrel room door stood slightly ajar, a sliver of golden light cutting through the darkness. Harper hesitated, her hand hovering over the worn wood. This was private. This was his space.
But the pull was stronger than caution.
She pushed the door open.
The scent hit her first. Oak and wine and something earthier, something that smelled like age and patience and craft. Rows of barrels stretched before her, stacked three high, their curved forms gleaming in the soft lamplight. The air was cooler here, a few degrees below the summer night, and she shivered.
And then she saw him.
Eric stood at the far end of the room, his back to her, one hand resting on a barrel. He'd changed out of the button-down he'd worn at dinner. Now he wore a simple white t-shirt that stretched across his broad shoulders, and jeans that sat low on his hips. His feet were bare.
He hadn't heard her come in.
Harper's breath caught. She should leave. She should turn around and go back to her room and pretend she'd never seen this moment of unguarded solitude.
But she didn't move.
He turned slowly, as if he'd sensed her presence. His deep brown eyes found hers, and for a long moment, neither of them spoke. The air between them crackled with something electric, something that had been building since the moment she'd arrived.
"Couldn't sleep either?" His voice was low, rough, as if he'd been lost in thought and was pulling himself back to the surface.
Harper shook her head, her voice caught somewhere in her throat.
"Me neither." He turned back to the barrel, running his hand along its curve. "I come here when I can't sleep. The barrels, they talk, you know. The wood settles, the wine breathes. It's the only place that makes sense when nothing else does."
She stepped forward, her sandals making soft sounds on the concrete floor. "What were you thinking about?"
He was quiet for a moment. Then, "Change. Time. All the things I can't get back."
Harper moved closer, drawn by the vulnerability in his voice. She stopped a few feet away, close enough to see the lines around his eyes, the silver threading through his dark hair.
"You can't get back time," she said softly. "But you can still make new moments."
He turned to face her fully, and the intensity in his gaze made her stomach flip. "Is that what you're doing here, Harper? Making new moments?"
The way he said her name. Like it was something precious. Something forbidden.
"I don't know what I'm doing here," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just know I couldn't stay in that room. I couldn't stop thinking about..."
She trailed off, her cheeks flushing.
"About what?"
"About today. About the tasting. About the way you looked at me."
He took a step closer. Then another. Now he was close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. "I shouldn't have looked at you like that."
"Why not?"
"Because you're my daughter's best friend. Because you're twenty-two years old. Because I'm married."
Each word was a nail in a coffin she didn't want to build.
"None of that matters when I'm around you," she said, surprising herself with her own boldness. "I've been thinking about you for years, Eric. Since I was eighteen and Lyla brought me home for the first time. I told myself it was just a crush. That it would fade. But it never did."
His jaw tightened. "Harper..."
"I know it's wrong. I know there are a million reasons why we shouldn't be standing here. But right now, in this moment, I don't care about any of them."
She saw the war in his eyes. The pull of duty versus the pull of desire. And she watched as desire won.
He reached out, his rough hand cupping her cheek. His thumb traced across her cheekbone, featherlight, and she leaned into his touch like a flower turning toward the sun.
"You have no idea how many times I've thought about you," he said, his voice rough. "How many times I've watched you and Lyla together and wondered what it would be like to have you look at me the way you look at the world. With that fire in your eyes."
"Look at me now," she whispered.
He did. His gaze dropped to her lips, then back to her eyes. "If I kiss you, there's no going back."
"I don't want to go back."
That was all the permission he needed.
He closed the distance between them, his mouth capturing hers. The kiss was slow at first, exploratory, like he was tasting her the way he'd tasted the wine earlier. But then she made a small sound in the back of her throat, and something in him broke.
His hands slid into her hair, tilting her head back as he deepened the kiss. She gasped against his mouth, and he used the opportunity to slide his tongue inside, tasting her, claiming her. Her hands found his chest, feeling the solid muscle beneath the thin cotton of his t-shirt.
This was nothing like the kisses she'd shared with boys her own age. Those had been fumbling, uncertain, over too fast. This was deliberate. This was a man who knew what he wanted and how to take it.
He walked her backward until her back hit the rough wood of a barrel. The impact knocked the air from her lungs, but before she could recover, his mouth was on her neck, trailing hot kisses down to her collarbone.
"Eric," she breathed, her fingers tangling in his hair.
"Say my name again," he murmured against her skin.
"Eric."
He groaned, his hands sliding down her sides, over the curve of her hips. He gripped her thighs, lifting her, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, the barrel digging into her back. The position was intimate, vulnerable, and she loved every second of it.
His mouth found hers again, hungrier this time. His hands explored her body, sliding under her tank top to find the bare skin of her waist. His palms were rough, calloused from years of working the vineyard, and the friction sent shivers across her skin.
She arched into him, wanting more, needing more. Her hands found the hem of his shirt, tugging it upward. He broke the kiss long enough to pull it over his head, and then his chest was against hers, skin on skin, and it was the most incredible thing she'd ever felt.
He was older, yes. His body showed the years of labor, the lines of experience. But he was also strong, solid, his muscles defined beneath a light dusting of salt-and-pepper hair. She traced her fingers across his chest, marveling at the contrast between his weathered skin and her own smooth youth.
"You're so beautiful," he said, his voice thick with want. "I've been trying not to notice. Trying not to want."
"Stop trying," she said, pulling him back to her mouth.
His hands found the button of her shorts, and he paused, his forehead resting against hers. "Is this too fast? Tell me if it's too fast."
"It's not too fast. It's perfect."
He unbuttoned her shorts, sliding them down her legs. She kicked them off, along with her sandals, until she was wearing only her tank top and panties. The cool air of the barrel room raised goosebumps on her skin, but his body was warm against hers.
He lifted her onto the barrel, the curved wood supporting her spine. His mouth traced a path down her throat, across her collarbone, lower. He pushed her tank top up, exposing her stomach, and kissed a line down to the waistband of her panties.
She gasped, her hips lifting toward him.
"Tell me to stop and I'll stop," he whispered, his breath hot against her skin.
"Don't stop. Please don't stop."
He hooked his fingers in the waistband of her panties, sliding them down slowly, deliberately. She lifted her hips to help him, and then she was bare before him, exposed on the barrel in the dim light. He made a sound, something between a groan and a prayer.
"You're incredible."
And then his mouth was on her.
She cried out, her hands flying to his head, her fingers tangling in his hair. His tongue was skilled, knowing, finding every sensitive spot with an accuracy that made her mind go blank. He started slowly, tracing gentle circles, learning her, reading her body's responses like he read the subtle notes of a vintage wine.
Her thighs trembled on either side of his head. He gripped them, steadying her, his calloused hands rough against her soft skin. The contrast was intoxicating. His mouth moved with purpose, his tongue exploring every fold, every hidden curve, while his thumbs traced slow circles on her inner thighs.
"Eric," she moaned, her head falling back. "That feels..."
She couldn't finish the sentence. He'd found the spot that made her spine arch, and he focused there, applying just the right amount of pressure. Her hips rocked against his mouth instinctively, chasing the pleasure he was building inside her.
He slid one finger inside her, then two, curling them upward as his tongue continued its relentless rhythm. She gasped, her body clenching around him. The sensation was overwhelming, pleasure radiating from her core in waves.
"Please," she begged, not knowing what she was asking for.
He answered by pressing harder, faster, his fingers and mouth working in tandem. She was close, so close, the pressure building in her core like a wave about to crash. Her breath came in short, desperate gasps. Her fingers tightened in his hair.
"Let go," he murmured against her. "I've got you."
And she did.
The orgasm crashed through her like a summer storm, sudden and overwhelming. She cried out his name, her body shaking against his mouth, her thighs clamping around his head. He didn't stop, didn't slow, drawing out every last tremor until she was left breathless and trembling on the barrel.
When she finally went still, he pressed a soft kiss to her inner thigh, then another, trailing them up her body as he straightened. His lips found her stomach, her ribs, the curve of her breast through her tank top. She could taste herself on his tongue when he kissed her mouth.
"That was..." she breathed, unable to find the words.
"Just the beginning," he said, his voice rough with desire. He pressed his forehead against hers, and she could feel how hard he still was, the evidence of his arousal pressed against her. "I want you, Harper. I want you so badly I can barely think straight."
"Then have me."
He groaned, his hands gripping her hips. "Not tonight. I need to know this is real. That you're not just caught up in the moment. That when morning comes, you won't regret this."
"I won't regret this."
"Then let me have tonight. Let me remember the way you taste, the sounds you make. But I need to stop before I can't stop."
The restraint in his voice was almost painful. She could feel how much he wanted her, could feel the evidence pressed against her thigh. But he was holding back, protecting her, protecting himself.
She nodded, her breath coming in short gasps. "Okay."
He helped her down from the barrel, his hands steady on her waist. He retrieved her shorts, her panties, helping her dress with a tenderness that made her chest ache.
When she was dressed, he cupped her face in his hands, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to her forehead. "Go to bed, Harper. Sleep. Dream of me."
"I will," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
He walked her to the door, his hand on the small of her back. As she stepped out into the cool night air, she turned back to look at him.
"This isn't over," she said.
"No," he agreed, his voice rough. "It's just beginning."
The walk back to the main house felt like a dream. Her body was humming, alive in a way it had never been before. Her lips were swollen from his kisses, her skin still warm from his touch. Between her legs, she could still feel the echo of his mouth, the lingering pulse of pleasure.
When she reached her room, she closed the door and leaned against it, her heart pounding. She could still taste him on her lips. Could still feel his hands on her body.
She crossed to the window, looking out at the barrel room in the distance. The light was still on, a beacon in the darkness.
She knew she should feel guilty. She knew she should be thinking about Lyla, about the marriage she was helping him betray. But all she could feel was the ache of wanting more.
This was dangerous. This was reckless.
And she couldn't wait to see what happened next.
Vineyard Hideaway
The note appeared on Harper's nightstand while she was showering. Cream linen paper, folded precisely, with Eric's bold handwriting in black ink.
Sunset. The old oak by the creek. Bring your appetite.
Her heart hammered as she read it twice, then pressed it to her chest. A private picnic. Just the two of them, away from the main house, away from prying eyes.
She spent the afternoon in a daze, choosing her outfit with deliberate care. White sundress. Simple. Easy to remove. She caught herself in the mirror and blushed at her own scheming.
The walk to the creek took her through the vineyard rows, the late afternoon sun warm on her shoulders. Harvest would start soon, and the grapes hung heavy and sweet on the vines. Harper ran her fingers over them as she passed, feeling the same ripeness building in her own body.
She found the spot before she found him. A massive oak tree spreading its branches over a grassy clearing where the creek widened into a small pool. A quilt was spread beneath the tree, covered with baskets and the promise of something more.
Then she saw him.
Eric stood at the water's edge, his back to her, watching the sunset paint the creek in shades of amber and rose. He wore a simple linen shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbows, and dark pants. Even from behind, he commanded the space around him.
"You found it," he said without turning.
"Your directions were good." She stepped onto the quilt, feeling the soft fabric beneath her bare feet. "This is beautiful."
He turned, and the look in his eyes made her breath catch. Hunger. Appreciation. Something deeper that made her feel seen in a way she'd never experienced.
"I wanted somewhere special." He walked toward her, stopping a foot away. "Somewhere no one would find us."
The words hung between them, heavy with implication.
Dinner was simple but perfect. Fresh bread, local cheeses, cold grapes from the vineyard, and a bottle of his reserve cabernet. They ate as the sky darkened and the stars emerged, their conversation flowing easily between wine and laughter.
"You know," Harper said, sipping her wine, "when Lyla said I should visit, I didn't imagine this."
"What did you imagine?"
She considered the question. "Pool days. Wine tours. Maybe some local guys at a bar."
Eric's jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. "And now?"
"Now I can't imagine wanting any of that." She set down her glass and shifted closer. "I can't imagine wanting anyone else."
The confession hung in the air between them. Eric's hand found hers, fingers intertwining.
"Harper." Her name was a warning and a prayer.
"I know." She squeezed his hand. "I know this is complicated. I know what we're doing... what we could do... it changes everything. But I don't care."
"You should."
"But I don't." She moved closer, close enough to feel the heat radiating from his body. "I've wanted this for so long, Eric. Years. And now that I'm here, now that I know you want it too..."
He pulled her into his lap, and she went willingly, straddling him on the quilt. His hands found her hips, gripping with possessive strength.
"You have no idea what you do to me," he murmured against her neck.
"Show me."
His mouth found hers, and the kiss was different from the night before. Slower. Deeper. A conversation rather than a collision. His tongue traced her lower lip before sliding inside, tasting the wine still on her tongue.
She arched against him, feeling his hardness through their clothes. The night air was cool on her skin, but his hands were fire wherever they touched.
"I want to taste you," he said against her mouth.
The words sent a shiver through her entire body. "Yes."
He laid her back on the quilt, the soft fabric cradling her as he moved over her. The stars spun overhead as he kissed down her neck, across her collarbone, pausing at the neckline of her dress.
"Beautiful," he breathed. "So fucking beautiful."
His hands found the hem of her dress, sliding it up her thighs. She lifted her hips to help him, and soon the white fabric was bunched around her waist, leaving her exposed in nothing but lace underwear.
Eric sat back, just looking at her. The hunger in his eyes made her feel powerful.
"You're perfect," he said. "Every inch of you."
Then he lowered his head.
His mouth found her through the lace, and she gasped at the contact. Even through the fabric, his heat was overwhelming. He kissed her there, slow and deliberate, building anticipation with every soft press of his lips. His breath seeped through the lace, warm and damp against her most sensitive skin, and she felt herself swell beneath his attention.
"Eric," she whispered, her voice already ragged.
He responded by pressing his tongue flat against her, the wet heat of it searing through the thin lace. She moaned and her hips bucked upward of their own accord, chasing the pressure. His hands gripped her thighs, holding her open for him, holding her still.
His fingers hooked into the waistband of her underwear, and she lifted her hips again. The lace slid down her legs and away, leaving her completely bare beneath him. The night air kissed her wet flesh, a cool contrast to the heat of his breath hovering inches away.
"God, Harper." His voice was rough, almost pained. "I've been thinking about this since the moment I saw you."
"Then stop thinking."
He didn't need to be told twice.
His mouth found her center, and she cried out, her hands tangling in his salt-and-pepper hair. The first stroke of his tongue was slow, broad, a long lick from bottom to top that gathered her wetness and spread it over her swollen folds. She gasped and pulled his head closer, desperate for more.
He gave it to her. His tongue traced intricate patterns, circling her entrance before sliding upward to find the tight bud of her clit. He flicked it once, twice, then sealed his lips around it and sucked gently. The sensation shot through her like electricity, making her back arch off the quilt.
"Oh God," she moaned. "Right there. Please."
He alternated between soft flicks and firm pressure, reading her body with expert precision. When her breathing quickened, he pressed harder. When she squirmed, he slowed down. When she whimpered, he slid a finger inside her, curling it upward to find the spot that made her see stars.
"That's it," he murmured against her, his lips vibrating against her swollen flesh. "Let me hear you."
She was beyond words. The pleasure built like a wave, rising higher with every pass of his tongue. His hands gripped her thighs, spreading her wider, giving himself more access. A second finger joined the first, stretching her, filling her, pumping in a slow rhythm that matched the stroke of his tongue.
He sucked her clit into his mouth again, and she bucked against him, a broken moan escaping her lips. The pressure was exquisite, his tongue flicking the sensitive bundle of nerves while his fingers worked inside her. She could feel herself clenching around him, her body begging for release.
"Please," she gasped. "Please, I'm so close."
He doubled his efforts, his tongue moving faster, his fingers pumping deeper. The wet sounds of his mouth on her were obscene in the quiet night air, mingling with her moans and the distant murmur of the creek. The combination was too much. The wave crested and broke, and she came with a cry that echoed across the water, her body convulsing around his fingers, her thighs clamping against his head.
But he didn't stop.
He kept licking, kept tasting, drawing out her orgasm with gentle strokes as the aftershocks rippled through her. She trembled beneath him, oversensitive, every nerve ending firing. When his tongue brushed her clit again, she whimpered and tried to close her legs, but he held her open.
"One more," he murmured, his voice dark with command. "Give me one more."
"I can't," she breathed, but her body was already betraying her, her hips tilting toward his mouth again.
"You can." He stroked her slowly, his fingers still inside her, feeling her clench around them. "You will."
His tongue found her clit again, and this time he was relentless. No teasing, no buildup, just steady, firm strokes that pushed her toward the edge with terrifying speed. Her hands clawed at the quilt, her head thrashing from side to side as the pleasure crested again, higher than before, a wave that threatened to drown her.
"Eric, I'm... oh God, I'm..."
She came again, harder than the first time, her scream swallowed by the night sky. Her body arched off the quilt, every muscle taut, her walls clenching around his fingers in rhythmic pulses. He worked her through it, his tongue gentler now, coaxing every last tremor from her body until she collapsed back onto the quilt, limp and gasping.
Only then did he lift his head, his chin glistening with her, his eyes dark and satisfied.
"That's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," he said.
Harper pulled him up, kissing him, tasting herself on his lips. The intimacy of it made her chest ache. She could feel his hardness pressing against her through his pants, and she reached down to stroke him through the fabric.
"Let me," she whispered. "I want to make you feel good too."
He groaned at her touch, his hips pressing into her hand. But then he caught her wrist, stilling her fingers.
"Not tonight." He kissed her palm, his eyes soft in the starlight. "Tonight is about you."
She wanted to argue, but her body was still humming with pleasure, boneless and sated. Instead, she curled into his side, letting him wrap an arm around her.
They lay there in silence, watching the stars wheel overhead. The creek murmured its quiet song, and the night air wrapped around them like a blanket.
"I don't know what happens after this," Harper said quietly. "After I leave."
Eric's arm tightened around her. "Then let's not think about that tonight."
"But I need to think about it. I need to know..."
He turned to face her, his expression serious. "What do you need to know?"
"If this is just... a fling. Something to pass the time while I'm here." She swallowed hard. "Or if it means something."
Eric was quiet for a long moment. When he spoke, his voice was rough.
"It means something, Harper. I don't know what yet. I don't know how this ends. But it means something."
She pressed her face into his chest, breathing him in. Wine and earth and something uniquely him.
"I'm scared," she admitted.
"Me too."
They stayed like that until the moon rose high and the air grew cold. Eric helped her gather the remnants of their picnic, then walked her back to the main house, his hand in hers the entire way.
At the door, he kissed her forehead.
"Goodnight, Harper."
"Goodnight, Eric."
She watched him walk away, his figure disappearing into the darkness between the vines. When she finally went inside, she found herself touching her lips, still tasting him.
Still tasting herself.
The night had changed something. The physical pleasure was undeniable, but it was the vulnerability that lingered. The way he'd looked at her. The way he'd held her afterward.
She climbed into bed, still wearing his scent on her skin, and stared at the ceiling.
This was no longer just a crush. This was no longer just a game.
This was something real, and terrifying, and she didn't know if she was ready for where it was taking her.
But she knew one thing with absolute certainty.
She wasn't going to stop.
Stormy Confession
The first crack of thunder rolled across the valley just as Harper finished drying her hair. She stood at the window of her guest room, watching dark clouds swallow the last traces of sunset over the vineyard. The air had shifted, heavy and electric, and she felt it in her bones.
She had been avoiding Eric all day.
After what happened at the picnic, after the way he had looked at her with those deep brown eyes full of something she couldn't name, she needed space. Needed to think. But the storm had other plans.
Rain started falling in sheets, pounding against the windows like it wanted in. The old farmhouse creaked and groaned around her, and Harper pulled her sweater tighter around her shoulders. She had changed into comfortable clothes after her shower, yoga pants and a soft gray sweater, her hair still damp and curling at the ends.
Another flash of lightning, closer this time. The lights flickered.
Harper's phone buzzed. A text from Eric.
Storm knocked out power in parts of the house. You okay up there?
She stared at the message, her heart hammering. Before she could reply, a crash of thunder shook the entire house, and the lights went out completely.
Darkness swallowed her. The kind of deep, absolute dark that only came from being miles from any city, surrounded by nothing but vines and rain.
Harper's breath caught. She wasn't afraid of storms, not really, but the sudden blackness disoriented her. She fumbled for her phone, using the screen as a flashlight, and made her way to the door.
The hallway was just as dark. Rain hammered the roof above her, a constant drumming that filled the old house with sound. She could hear wind whistling through cracks she hadn't noticed before.
She should stay in her room. That would be smart. Sensible.
But her feet carried her down the stairs anyway, following the faint glow of candlelight she spotted from the landing.
Eric was in the living room, lighting candles on the mantle. He had already arranged several around the space, casting warm flickering shadows across the walls. When he heard her footsteps, he turned.
"There you are." His voice was low, rough. "I was about to come check on you."
"I'm fine." Harper stopped at the bottom of the stairs, suddenly aware of how intimate this felt. Just the two of them, trapped by the storm, surrounded by candlelight. "Just didn't want to be alone up there."
Something flickered in his eyes. Understanding. Want. Caution.
"Come sit." He gestured to the couch. "I have wine. It's already open, so we might as well finish it."
Harper hesitated. Every rational part of her brain screamed that she should go back upstairs. That being alone with him in the dark, with the rain and the candles and the wine, was a dangerous combination.
But she was already walking toward him, already settling onto the plush couch, already accepting the glass he handed her.
The wine was deep and rich, a Cabernet from his reserve collection. She sipped it slowly, letting the warmth spread through her chest.
Eric sat beside her, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. He had changed too, into a simple button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his forearms. Those strong, weathered hands that had touched her so intimately just yesterday.
"Can't sleep?" he asked.
"Can't stop thinking." She stared into her wine glass. "About yesterday. About everything."
"Me too."
The thunder rumbled overhead, distant now, moving past them. But the rain kept falling, steady and relentless.
"Eric." She said his name carefully, testing it. "What are we doing?"
He was quiet for a long moment. When he spoke, his voice was heavy. "I don't know. I keep telling myself this is wrong. That I should stop this before it goes any further."
"Should you?"
He turned to look at her, and in the candlelight, she could see the conflict written across his face. The lines around his eyes, the tension in his jaw. He looked older in this light, more vulnerable.
"Probably." He set down his wine. "But I can't. I don't want to."
Harper's heart was pounding so hard she was sure he could hear it. "Why not?"
"Because you make me feel alive." He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor. "I know that sounds pathetic. A man my age, trapped in a marriage that's been dead for years, finding life in a woman half his age."
"It doesn't sound pathetic." Harper set her glass beside his, turning to face him fully. "It sounds honest."
"It's also dangerous." He looked at her finally, and there was something raw in his eyes. "Lyla would never forgive me. She would never forgive you."
The mention of her best friend's name hit Harper like a slap. Guilt surged through her, sharp and immediate. She thought of Lyla's bright smile, her trusting nature, the way she had hugged Harper goodbye at the airport and said, Take care of my dad for me.
"Don't you think I know that?" Harper's voice cracked. "I think about it every time I look at you. Every time I feel your hands on me. I think about her, and I hate myself for wanting this anyway."
"But you do want it."
It wasn't a question. Eric already knew the answer.
"Yes." The word came out as barely a whisper. "God, yes. I want it so much it scares me."
He reached for her then, his hand cupping her cheek, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. The touch was gentle, almost reverent.
"I'm scared too," he admitted. "I'm scared of what this means. Of what it could cost us. But I can't stop thinking about you, Harper. I can't stop wanting you."
She leaned into his touch, closing her eyes. "Then stop fighting it."
"I've been fighting it since the moment you arrived."
"Then stop."
When she opened her eyes, she saw the decision settle over him. The resignation. The surrender.
"Tell me about your marriage," she said softly.
He pulled back, but only slightly. His hand found hers, their fingers intertwining.
"It's complicated," he started. "But mostly, it's empty. We've been going through the motions for years. Separate bedrooms, separate lives. We stay together because it's easier than explaining to everyone why we didn't."
"Did you love her?"
"Once. I think. Or maybe I loved the idea of her. The perfect winemaker's wife. The family everyone expected me to have." He shook his head. "We grew apart slowly, over so many years I barely noticed until one day I looked across the dinner table and realized I was sitting with a stranger."
Harper squeezed his hand. "That sounds lonely."
"It was. Is." He looked at her. "Until you showed up. Until you looked at me like I was something more than just Lyla's father, more than the guy who runs the vineyard."
"Because you are more." She shifted closer, her thigh pressing against his. "You're this incredible, passionate man who's been hiding himself. And I see you, Eric. I see all of you."
The rain had softened now, settling into a steady rhythm against the roof. The candles flickered, casting dancing shadows across the room.
"I want to show you something," he said.
He stood, pulling her gently to her feet. His hand stayed wrapped around hers as he led her through the dark house, past the kitchen, up the back staircase she hadn't explored before.
They stopped at a door at the end of the hall. The master bedroom.
Eric pushed it open, and Harper stepped inside.
The room was large, dominated by a king-sized bed with dark wooden posts. The windows faced the vineyard, rain streaming down the glass. More candles were already lit on the nightstands, as if he had been preparing for this.
"This is your room," she said.
"Ours," he corrected quietly. "Though she hasn't slept here in years."
Harper turned to face him. The confession hung between them, heavy and honest.
"I don't want to be just a distraction," she said. "I don't want to be someone you use to forget your problems."
"You're not." He stepped closer, his hands finding her waist. "You're not a distraction, Harper. You're a revelation."
She rose on her toes and kissed him.
It was different from their first kiss in the barrel room. Different from the desperate passion of the picnic. This was slower, deeper, filled with all the words they had just spoken. She tasted the wine on his lips, felt the roughness of his stubble against her chin.
His hands slid under her sweater, fingers splaying across her bare back. She shivered at his touch, pressing closer until there was no space left between them. The heat of his body seeped through the thin fabric of her clothes, and she could feel the hard planes of his chest against her breasts, the rigid length of his thigh pressing between hers.
"I want this," she breathed against his mouth. "I want you. All of you."
"I want to take my time with you." His voice was rough, strained. "I want to memorize every inch of your body."
"Then do it."
He guided her backward toward the bed, and she went willingly. The back of her knees hit the mattress, and she sank onto it, looking up at him with the candlelight casting shadows across his face.
He stood over her, and she watched him unbutton his shirt slowly, deliberately. Each button revealed more of his chest, the gray hair sprinkled across his pectorals, the definition that spoke to years of physical labor. He was beautiful in a way that had nothing to do with youth. Every line on his body told a story.
When the shirt fell away, Harper reached for him, pulling him down to her.
They kissed again, and this time there was no hesitation. His weight settled over her, warm and solid, and she wrapped her legs around his hips, pulling him closer. She could feel his arousal through his jeans, hard and insistent against her center.
"Tell me what you want," he murmured against her neck, his lips tracing a path to the sensitive spot just below her ear.
"You." She arched into him, rolling her hips to create friction against his hardness. "I want you inside me. I've wanted it since the first night."
He groaned, his mouth trailing down her throat, her collarbone. He pushed her sweater up, revealing her stomach, her ribs, the lace of her bra. His fingers traced the edge of the fabric, skimming along the swell of her breasts.
"You're so beautiful." His voice was reverent. "So perfect."
She helped him remove her sweater, then her bra. His breath caught when he saw her fully bare before him. His gaze was heavy-lidded, hungry, and it made heat pool low in her belly.
"Touch me," she whispered.
He did. His hands explored her slowly, worshipfully. He cupped her breasts, thumbs brushing over her nipples until they peaked under his attention. She gasped at the sensation, her back arching off the bed. His mouth followed, hot and wet, drawing sounds from her she didn't know she could make. He circled one nipple with his tongue while his fingers rolled the other, alternating between gentle and firm until she was writhing beneath him.
The storm raged outside, but inside this room, there was only them. Only his hands and his mouth and the way he made her feel like she was the most important person in the world.
His lips traveled lower, tracing a path down her stomach, his tongue dipping into her navel before continuing to the waistband of her yoga pants. He looked up at her, asking permission with his eyes.
"Yes," she breathed. "Please."
He hooked his fingers into the waistband and slowly drew her pants and underwear down together, his palms sliding along her hips, her thighs, her calves. When she was completely bare before him, he sat back on his heels and just looked at her.
"You have no idea how long I've imagined this," he said, his voice thick. "How many nights I've thought about what you would look like spread out beneath me."
His hands parted her thighs, and she let them fall open without shame. His fingers traced the inside of her leg, moving higher until he reached the slick heat between her legs. One finger slid through her folds, and she moaned at the contact.
"So wet for me already," he murmured. "So ready."
"Eric." His name was a plea on her lips.
He lowered his head, and then his mouth was on her. His tongue traced the same path his finger had taken, circling her clit with deliberate slowness before sucking gently. She cried out, her hands fisting in the sheets. He worked her with expert precision, alternating between broad strokes and focused attention, reading her body's responses like he had studied her for years.
Two fingers slid inside her, curling to find the spot that made her see stars. She bucked against his hand, chasing the sensation.
"Please," she begged. "Eric, please."
He lifted his head, his eyes dark with desire, his chin glistening with her arousal. "Please what?"
"Please fuck me."
The words hung in the air, bold and unashamed. She had never said those words to anyone before, but with him, they felt right.
He stood, unbuckling his belt with deliberate slowness. She watched, her breath coming in short gasps, as he pushed his jeans and boxers down, revealing himself to her fully. He was thick and hard, the head flushed and slick, and her mouth watered at the sight.
"I want to be inside you so badly," he said, his voice strained. "But I need to know you're sure."
"I'm sure." She reached for him, her fingers wrapping around his length, feeling the heat and silk of him. "I've never been more sure of anything."
He groaned at her touch, his hips thrusting involuntarily into her hand. She stroked him slowly, learning the weight of him, the way he twitched when she circled the head with her thumb.
"Do you have protection?" she asked.
He nodded, reaching for the nightstand drawer. She watched him roll the condom on, his hands steady despite the obvious tension in his body.
Then he was above her again, his weight settling between her legs. She was already wet, already aching for him, and when he positioned himself at her entrance, she held her breath.
"Look at me," he said.
She did. Their eyes locked as he pushed inside her, slow and deep, filling her completely. The sensation was overwhelming. He stretched her inch by inch, and she gasped as her body adjusted to accommodate him. But he moved slowly, giving her time, watching her face for any sign of discomfort.
"You feel incredible," he breathed when he was finally fully seated inside her. "So tight. So perfect."
"So do you." Her hands found his back, nails digging into his skin. "Move. Please."
He did. He withdrew slowly and thrust back in, setting a rhythm that was both gentle and consuming. Each stroke hit deeper, sending waves of pleasure through her body. She could feel every ridge of him, every pulse, and she wrapped her legs tighter around him to take him even further.
The rain hammered the windows. The candles flickered. And Eric moved inside her with a skill that spoke to decades of experience. He varied his pace, sometimes slow and grinding, sometimes quick and urgent, finding angles that made her cry out and angles that made her whimper.
"More," she demanded. "Harder."
He obeyed, his pace increasing. The sound of their bodies meeting filled the room, mixing with the storm outside. Harper's moans grew louder, more desperate. He grabbed her hips, changing the angle, and the new position hit something inside her that made stars explode behind her eyes.
"Oh God, right there," she gasped. "Don't stop."
"I won't." His voice was rough, guttural. "I'm not stopping until you come apart for me."
He reached between them, his fingers finding her clit, circling it with perfect pressure in time with his thrusts. The dual sensation was too much, pushing her closer and closer to the edge.
"Look at me," he said again. "I want to see your face when you come."
She forced her eyes open, meeting his gaze. The intensity there undid her. The pressure that had been building finally crested, and she shattered beneath him. Her body arched off the bed, her cry lost in the thunder that chose that moment to crash overhead. Her walls clenched around him, pulsing, pulling him deeper as wave after wave of pleasure crashed through her.
He groaned at the sensation, his rhythm faltering as her body milked him. A few more thrusts, deep and desperate, and then he buried himself fully inside her with a guttural moan. She felt him pulse, felt the heat of him even through the barrier, and she held him tighter as he shuddered through his release.
He collapsed against her, his face buried in her neck, his breath hot against her skin. She held him, her legs wrapped around him, keeping him close as the aftershocks rippled through them both.
For a long moment, neither of them moved. The only sounds were their ragged breathing and the rain against the windows.
Finally, he lifted his head, looking down at her with an expression that made her heart ache.
"Harper." He said her name like a prayer.
"I know." She reached up, brushing damp hair from his forehead. "I feel it too."
He rolled off her, disposing of the condom before pulling her into his arms. She fit perfectly against his side, her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat as it slowly returned to normal.
The guilt was there, lurking at the edges of her consciousness. She thought of Lyla, of the betrayal they were committing. But in this moment, wrapped in Eric's arms with the scent of sex and rain filling the room, she couldn't bring herself to regret it.
"What happens now?" she asked softly.
He kissed the top of her head. "I don't know. But I know I don't want this to end when you leave."
"Neither do I."
They lay there as the storm passed, as the rain softened to a drizzle, as the first hints of dawn began to lighten the sky. And Harper knew, with a certainty that scared her, that she was in too deep to ever climb back out.
Harvest Tease
The morning sun cast long shadows across the vineyard as Harper pulled her hair into a messy ponytail, her fingers trembling slightly. Today was harvest day, which meant workers everywhere, family friends arriving, and the constant threat of prying eyes.
She had barely slept. Every time she closed her eyes, she felt Eric's hands on her skin, heard his voice whispering promises in the dark. The memory of the stormy night clung to her like perfume, impossible to wash away.
"You're up early."
She spun around, heart hammering. Eric stood in the doorway of the guest room, a coffee mug in his hand, his eyes traveling over her with that familiar heat.
"Couldn't sleep," she admitted, her voice rougher than she intended.
"Me neither." He stepped closer, close enough that she caught the scent of coffee and soap. "You look good in the morning light."
"Don't start." But she was already leaning toward him, already craving his touch. "There are people everywhere today."
"I know." His hand found her waist, fingers pressing into the fabric of her shirt. "That doesn't mean I can stop wanting you."
She should have pushed him away. Should have reminded him about the harvest, about the workers, about Lyla's call scheduled for later that afternoon. Instead, she let herself melt into his arms for one stolen moment, her lips brushing against his jaw.
"We have to be careful," she whispered.
"We will be." He pulled back, his eyes dark and serious. "But I can't promise I won't touch you today. Can't promise I won't find ways to be near you."
"Then we'll just have to be clever about it."
The morning passed in a blur of activity. Harper helped sort grapes alongside the seasonal workers, her hands stained purple, her muscles aching. Every few minutes, she caught sight of Eric across the vineyard, directing the harvest, his voice carrying over the rows of vines.
Each glance was a secret. Each accidental brush of fingers when he handed her a basket was a promise.
By midday, the sun was brutal, and Harper had stripped down to a tank top, her skin slick with sweat. She was bending over a crate of cabernet grapes when she felt a hand press against the small of her back.
"Need a break?" Eric's voice was low, meant only for her.
"I could use some water."
"Follow me."
She did, weaving through the rows of vines until they reached a small equipment shed hidden behind a grove of old oaks. The door creaked as he pushed it open, and she stepped inside, the cool darkness a relief from the relentless sun.
The shed smelled like oil and rust. Tools hung on the walls, and a tractor sat in the corner, its engine still ticking as it cooled.
"This is risky," she said, even as her body pressed against his.
"I know." His hands were already on her waist, pulling her close. "But I couldn't wait any longer. Watching you out there, bending over those crates, your skin all flushed..."
"God, Eric." She kissed him, hard and desperate, her fingers tangling in his salt-and-pepper hair. "We can't be long."
"I don't need long." His hands slid under her tank top, calloused palms rough against her skin. "Just need to feel you."
He lifted her onto a stack of burlap sacks, their contents soft and yielding beneath her. She gasped as his mouth found her neck, teeth grazing the sensitive skin there.
"Someone will notice we're gone."
"Let them wonder." His hands worked at the button of her shorts, and she lifted her hips to help him. "I've been thinking about this all morning. About you. About how sweet you taste."
"Then stop talking and show me."
He laughed, a low rumble that vibrated against her chest. "Bossy today, aren't you?"
"You make me bold."
His eyes met hers, and for a moment, the weight of what they were doing settled between them. This wasn't just a fling. This was dangerous and thrilling and terrifying all at once.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice softening.
"I'm more than okay." She pulled him closer, her legs wrapping around his waist. "I'm exactly where I want to be."
He kissed her again, slower this time, his tongue exploring her mouth with deliberate care. His hands found her thighs, pushing them apart, and she shivered as the cool air hit her exposed skin.
"Tell me if you need to stop," he murmured against her lips.
"I won't want to."
He lowered himself to his knees, his hands gripping her hips as he pulled her to the edge of the burlap sacks. She watched him through half-closed eyes, watched the way his mouth curved into a smile before he pressed his lips to her inner thigh.
"You're so beautiful," he said, his breath warm against her skin. "Every part of you."
"Stop complimenting me and do something useful."
He laughed again, and then his mouth was on her, and she forgot how to think.
His tongue was skilled, relentless, finding every spot that made her gasp and linger there until she was trembling. He started with slow, deliberate strokes, tracing the length of her before circling the sensitive bud at her center. She gripped his hair, pulling him closer, her hips rocking against his face.
He teased her at first, his tongue flicking lightly, barely making contact, before pressing harder. The contrast drove her wild, her body arching off the burlap sacks, chasing the sensation. His hands held her hips steady, his fingers digging into her flesh as he worked her with his mouth.
"That's it," he murmured against her, the vibration sending sparks through her body. "Let go for me."
"I'm close." Her voice was a strangled whisper. "Don't stop."
He didn't. He doubled his efforts, his fingers joining his mouth, sliding inside her with practiced ease. The combination of his tongue and his fingers pushed her over the edge, and she came apart with a cry that she barely managed to stifle by biting her own hand. Her body convulsed around him, waves of pleasure crashing through her as he continued to work her through the orgasm, drawing out every last tremor.
He rose, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, his eyes dark with satisfaction. "I could do that all day."
"We don't have all day." She was still catching her breath, still trembling from the aftershocks. "But I want you. Now."
"Here?"
"Right here."
He didn't argue. He unbuckled his belt, his eyes never leaving hers, and she watched the way his hands moved with practiced ease. When he stepped closer, she wrapped her legs around him again, pulling him against her. She could feel how hard he was through his jeans, and the sensation made her ache with renewed desire.
"This won't be gentle," he warned.
"I don't want gentle."
He entered her in one smooth thrust, and she gasped at the sudden fullness. He was thick and hard, and she felt every inch of him as he began to move, his pace urgent and demanding. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, wanting to feel his weight on her, wanting to feel claimed.
The burlap sacks rustled beneath her. The tractor ticked in the corner. Somewhere outside, a worker called out, their voice distant and irrelevant.
All that mattered was this. Was him. Was the way he filled her, claimed her, made her forget everything except the heat building between them.
"You feel incredible," he growled, his forehead pressed against hers. "I can't get enough of you."
"Then don't." She dug her nails into his shoulders, urging him faster. "Don't stop."
He didn't. He drove into her with increasing urgency, his breathing ragged, his movements growing erratic. She could feel her own climax building again, faster this time, more intense. He reached between them, his fingers finding her clit, rubbing in tight circles as he thrust into her.
"Come with me," she begged. "Please."
He groaned, his body tensing, and she felt him pulse inside her as she shattered around him, her cries muffled against his shoulder. Her body clenched around him, milking every drop as they rode out the waves together, their bodies slick with sweat, their hearts pounding in unison.
For a long moment, they stayed like that, tangled together, breathing hard, the reality of what they'd done slowly seeping back in.
"We should get back," she whispered.
"I know." He kissed her forehead, her nose, her lips. "But I don't want to leave this moment."
"We can't stay here."
"No." He pulled away, helping her adjust her clothes, his hands lingering on her skin. "But tonight, after everyone leaves..."
"I'll find you."
He smiled, and it was the same smile that had drawn her in from the very beginning. Warm and commanding and full of promise.
They slipped out of the shed separately, Harper going first, her heart pounding as she emerged into the bright sunlight. She walked quickly, her eyes scanning for any sign that someone had noticed their absence.
The coast was clear. For now.
She made it back to the sorting tables, grabbing a basket and pretending she'd never left. A few minutes later, Eric appeared, his shirt untucked, his hair slightly mussed.
"Everything okay?" one of the workers asked.
"Fine," Eric said, his voice perfectly steady. "Just checking on the equipment."
Harper kept her eyes on the grapes, her cheeks burning. The risk had been worth it. The thrill of being caught, the urgency of their encounter, it had all been intoxicating.
But as the afternoon wore on, the paranoia began to creep in. Every glance felt too long. Every whisper felt like an accusation. She found herself avoiding Eric's eyes, afraid of what hers might reveal.
By evening, the harvest was complete, and the workers had dispersed. Harper sat on the porch, a glass of wine in her hand, watching the sun set over the vineyard.
Eric joined her, sitting a respectable distance away.
"Long day," he said.
"Yeah."
"Worth it though."
She looked at him, really looked at him, and saw the same fear and excitement she felt reflected in his eyes. "We can't keep doing this."
"I know." He took a sip of his wine. "But I don't know how to stop."
"Me neither."
They sat in silence, the weight of their secret pressing down on them. Somewhere, in the back of Harper's mind, a voice warned her that this was dangerous, that they were playing with fire.
But the fire felt too good to resist.
And as the stars began to appear, one by one, she knew she'd keep burning for as long as he'd let her.
Bestie's Surprise Call
The house had gone quiet after the harvest crew left. Eric stood at the kitchen counter, pouring two glasses of a deep ruby vintage, his sleeves rolled up to reveal those forearms that made Harper's stomach flip every time she saw them. She watched him from the doorway, still buzzing from the near miss in the equipment shed earlier that day.
"You're staring," he said without looking up.
"You're worth staring at."
He turned, a slow smile spreading across his face. "Come here."
She crossed the kitchen and took the glass he offered. Their fingers brushed, and the contact sent a familiar jolt through her. Eric set his own glass down and pulled her into his arms, his mouth finding hers with a hunger that matched her own.
The kiss deepened quickly. His hands slid down her back, gripping her hips and pulling her against him. She moaned into his mouth, the wine glass still in her hand, forgotten.
"I've been thinking about this all day," he murmured against her lips. "About you. About what I wanted to do to you the moment I saw you in the vineyard this morning."
"Show me," she breathed.
He took the glass from her hand, set it on the counter, and lifted her onto the granite surface. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he pressed between them, his mouth trailing down her neck, teeth grazing her collarbone. His hands found the hem of her shirt, sliding beneath to trace the bare skin of her waist, and she arched into his touch.
Then her phone rang.
The sound was jarring, a sharp intrusion into the heat building between them. Harper ignored it, pulling Eric's mouth back to hers.
"Should you get that?" he asked, his voice rough.
"No."
But the phone kept ringing. And then she saw the screen. Lyla's face smiled up at her, all blonde hair and bright eyes, and Harper's stomach dropped.
"It's her," she whispered.
Eric's hands stilled on her thighs. "You should answer."
"I can't. Not right now."
"If you don't, she'll wonder why." His voice was calm, but she could see the tension in his jaw. "Answer it. I'll be quiet."
Harper's heart hammered as she reached for the phone. Her fingers trembled when she swiped to accept the video call. Lyla's face filled the screen, and Harper forced a smile that felt like a mask.
"Hey, Lyla!" Her voice came out too bright, too high.
"Harps! I was hoping I'd catch you. How's the birthday girl?"
"Good. Great. The vineyard is amazing." Harper kept the camera angled up, showing only her face and the kitchen wall behind her. Eric was still between her legs, his hands on her thighs, his breath warm against her neck.
"I'm so jealous. Dad said the harvest went well today?"
"Yeah, really well. Everyone worked hard." Harper's voice wavered as Eric's fingers began to move, tracing slow circles on the inside of her thigh. She shifted, trying to create distance, but he didn't stop.
"You okay? You look a little flushed."
"Just tired. It was a long day."
Eric's lips found her neck again, pressing soft, silent kisses along the column of her throat. Harper bit her lip to keep from making a sound. She angled the phone away slightly, hoping Lyla wouldn't notice the movement behind her.
"So tell me everything," Lyla said, settling into what looked like her dorm room bed. "Have you done the wine tasting? The sunset tour? Dad's famous vineyard walk?"
"We did the tasting yesterday. It was... informative." Harper's breath caught as Eric's hand slid higher, his fingers brushing the heat between her legs through the thin fabric of her shorts. She clamped her thighs together, trapping his hand.
"Informative? That's it? Did my dad bore you with his wine nerd stuff?"
"No, he's actually really good at explaining things." Harper's voice sounded strained even to her own ears. "He's very... thorough."
Eric's lips curved against her neck. She could feel him smiling, knew he was enjoying this game. His fingers resumed their exploration, finding the edge of her underwear and tracing along the waistband with maddening precision.
"He's always been like that," Lyla laughed. "Remember when he made us sit through that whole lecture about terroir during senior trip?"
"I remember." Harper's eyes fluttered closed for a second before she forced them open. "He's passionate about what he does."
"That's one way to put it. I call it obsessive."
Eric's fingers slipped beneath the fabric, and Harper had to bite her tongue to stifle the gasp. He found her wet, ready, and his touch was deliberate, calculated. He knew exactly what he was doing. His fingertips traced through her slick folds, gathering the moisture and spreading it upward, circling her entrance with a slowness that made her want to scream.
"So what else have you been up to?" Lyla asked, oblivious. "Any cute vineyard boys catch your eye?"
"No. No cute boys." Harper's voice cracked as Eric's finger finally pressed against her clit, applying just enough pressure to make her thighs tremble. She shifted on the counter, spreading her legs just slightly to give him better access. "Just the... the wine. And the scenery."
"You're so boring. You're supposed to be having adventures."
"I'm having plenty of adventures." The words came out breathy, and Harper cleared her throat. "Just not the kind you're thinking of."
Eric's finger slipped inside her, and Harper's hips jerked involuntarily. She gripped the edge of the counter, knuckles white, as he began a slow, deliberate rhythm. His thumb found her clit, pressing in circles that made her vision blur. He added a second finger, curling them upward to find the spot that made her toes curl, and she had to swallow hard to keep from moaning.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Lyla's face wrinkled with concern. "You look really red."
"I'm fine. Just hot. The kitchen is hot." Harper's words came out in short bursts. "What about you? How's everything there?"
"Ugh, boring. Classes are fine. My roommate is still weird. I miss you."
"I miss you too." The words were true, and they cut through the haze of pleasure like a knife. Harper's guilt surged, mixing with the pleasure building in her core. "I'll be home soon."
"Not too soon, I hope. You deserve this trip."
Eric's pace quickened, his fingers pumping into her with a rhythm that matched her racing pulse. He was watching her, his eyes dark and hungry, enjoying every second of her struggle to maintain composure. Harper met his gaze, and something passed between them. A challenge. A dare.
She wouldn't break. She couldn't.
"So Dad's been a good host?" Lyla asked. "He's not being too weird or overbearing?"
"No, he's been great. Really welcoming." Harper's voice hitched as Eric's fingers curled inside her, pressing against that spot that made her see stars. "He's been very... attentive."
"Good. I told him to take care of you. You're my best friend, so he better treat you like family."
Family. The word hit Harper like a slap. She was being fingered by her best friend's father while talking to her best friend on a video call. The reality of it crashed over her, and for a moment, the pleasure warred with a crushing wave of shame.
But Eric didn't stop. His fingers moved faster, his thumb pressing harder, and the shame melted into something darker, something thrilling. She was getting away with it. Right under Lyla's nose.
"He's been treating me very well," Harper managed, her voice dropping to something huskier than intended. "Spoiling me, actually."
"Good. You deserve it."
Eric's mouth returned to her neck, sucking gently at the sensitive skin below her ear while his fingers continued their relentless rhythm. Harper's hips began to move on their own, grinding against his hand, chasing the release that was building. She couldn't help it. Her body was betraying her, responding to him despite the risk. The wet sounds of his fingers sliding in and out of her seemed impossibly loud, and she prayed Lyla couldn't hear through the phone speaker.
"Harps, you're being weird. Are you sure you're okay?"
"Just tired. And a little tipsy." Harper forced a laugh. "Wine will do that to you."
"Okay, well, I'll let you go. I just wanted to check in and say I love you."
"I love you too." The words came out thick, heavy with guilt and affection. "So much."
"Aw, you're getting sappy. Go drink some water and go to bed."
"I will. Talk soon."
"Bye, Harps."
"Bye, Lyla."
Harper ended the call and threw the phone onto the counter. The screen went dark, and for a moment, there was only the sound of her ragged breathing. Then Eric's fingers moved again, harder, faster, pushing her toward the edge she'd been teetering on.
"You're incredible," he murmured against her skin. "You have no idea what watching you do that does to me."
"Eric..." His name was a plea, a warning, a prayer.
"Let go. I've got you."
And she did. The orgasm crashed through her, violent and consuming, and she pressed her face into his shoulder to muffle the cry that tore from her throat. Her walls clenched around his fingers, pulsing, and he worked her through it, drawing out every wave of pleasure with skilled precision until she was trembling, boneless, clinging to him.
When she finally came back to herself, the guilt hit her like a freight train. She had just come undone on her best friend's father's fingers while talking to her best friend. She had smiled into the camera, made small talk, said I love you while being pleasured by the man who was betraying Lyla's trust.
Tears pricked at her eyes. She pushed at Eric's chest, trying to create space between them.
"Hey." His voice was soft, concerned. "What's wrong?"
"What's wrong?" Harper laughed, and it came out broken. "I just... that was... she has no idea. She trusts me. She trusts you."
"I know." Eric's hands came up to cup her face, forcing her to meet his eyes. "I know, Harper. I think about it every time."
"Then why do we keep doing this?"
"Because I can't stop." His thumb traced her cheekbone. "Because when I'm with you, I feel alive in a way I haven't felt in years. Because the thought of not touching you, not being inside you, is worse than the guilt."
"That's not a good reason."
"It's the only one I have."
Harper closed her eyes, letting his words sink in. She understood. She felt the same way. The guilt was crushing, but the thought of stopping was worse. She was addicted to him, to the danger, to the way he made her feel seen and desired.
"I don't know how to stop," she whispered.
"Neither do I."
He kissed her then, soft and tender, and she melted into him. The guilt didn't disappear, but it quieted, pushed aside by the warmth of his mouth on hers.
"Let me take you to bed," he said against her lips. "Let me hold you. Just for tonight."
Harper nodded, not trusting her voice. He lifted her off the counter, and she wrapped her legs around his waist as he carried her through the house, up the stairs, into the master bedroom where this had all begun.
He laid her on the bed, and she watched him undress. His body was still impressive for a man his age, all broad shoulders and lean muscle, with a dusting of gray hair on his chest that made him look distinguished. Experienced. He pulled his shirt over his head, and the candlelight from the bedside lamp caught the definition of his abdomen, the sharp lines of his hips. When he pushed his pants down, his erection sprang free, thick and rigid, and Harper felt her mouth go dry.
When he was naked, he climbed onto the bed beside her, pulling her into his arms. They lay facing each other, his hand tracing patterns on her hip.
"I meant what I said," he told her. "You're incredible. What you did on that call... the control you have..." He shook his head. "I've never met anyone like you."
"I almost broke."
"But you didn't."
"Because I was thinking about her. About how much it would hurt her if she knew." Harper's voice cracked. "And somehow that made it more intense. More wrong. More... everything."
Eric was quiet for a long moment. "I know what you mean."
"Does that make us terrible people?"
"Probably."
Harper laughed, and it was a real laugh, full of dark humor and resignation. "At least we're honest about it."
"I'll always be honest with you." He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "That's the least I can do."
She shifted closer, pressing her body against his. She could feel him hard against her thigh, the heat of him, and despite everything, desire stirred again. She was insatiable when it came to him, unable to get enough.
"Make love to me," she whispered. "Help me forget."
He rolled her onto her back, positioning himself above her. "I can't promise you'll forget. But I can promise you'll feel."
He kissed her then, deep and slow, his tongue tangling with hers while his hands worked at her clothes. He pulled her shirt over her head, unclasped her bra with practiced ease, and bent to take one nipple into his mouth. She gasped, her back arching off the bed as his tongue swirled around the peaked flesh, then teeth grazing gently before he sucked hard enough to make her whimper.
He kissed his way down her stomach, his breath hot against her skin, and when he reached the waistband of her shorts, he looked up at her with those dark eyes. "I want to taste you first."
He stripped her shorts and underwear off in one motion, then settled between her thighs. His shoulders pushed her legs wider, and she felt impossibly exposed, impossibly wet. When his mouth finally found her, she cried out, her hands fisting in the sheets. His tongue was skilled, deliberate, tracing patterns around her clit before dipping lower to taste her fully. He groaned against her flesh, the vibration sending shockwaves through her core.
"Eric, please," she begged, though she wasn't sure what she was begging for. More. Everything. Release from the guilt that still gnawed at the edges of her pleasure.
He didn't make her wait. His tongue focused on her clit, circling with precise pressure while two fingers slid inside her again. The dual sensation was overwhelming, and Harper felt another orgasm building, different from the first, deeper. She ground against his face, chasing it, and he groaned again, his fingers curling inside her in that devastating rhythm.
She came with his name on her lips, her body clenching around his fingers while his tongue worked her through every pulse. When the waves finally subsided, he kissed his way back up her body, his mouth lingering on her breasts, her collarbone, her neck.
"I need you inside me," she breathed. "Now."
He positioned himself between her legs, the head of his cock pressing against her entrance. He entered her slowly, inch by inch, and Harper gasped at the stretch, the fullness. He filled her completely, and when he was buried to the hilt, he paused, letting her adjust.
"Look at me," he said.
She opened her eyes, meeting his gaze.
"I see you," he said. "All of you. The good and the guilty and the hungry. And I want all of it."
Then he began to move, pulling almost completely out before sliding back in with a deep, measured thrust that made her see white. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him deeper, and he groaned against her neck.
"You're going to be the death of me," he said.
"What a way to go."
He laughed, and the sound vibrated through his chest, through her. He kissed her, and she tasted herself on his lips, and it was intimate and dirty and perfect.
His pace quickened, each thrust driving deeper, harder. Harper matched his rhythm, lifting her hips to meet him, angling to take him even further. The sound of their bodies coming together filled the room, obscene and beautiful. She dug her nails into his back, and he hissed, his hips snapping forward with renewed intensity.
"Harder," she gasped. "I need to feel you."
He obliged, bracing his arms on either side of her and driving into her with a force that pushed her up the bed. She clung to him, her legs locked around his waist, her moans growing louder with each thrust. The headboard knocked against the wall, and she didn't care, couldn't care, because everything was sensation and heat and the way he filled her so completely.
They moved together, building toward a shared peak. Harper's third orgasm crested quickly, the sensitivity from the first two making everything more intense. She could feel him swelling inside her, his thrusts growing erratic, and she pulled him closer, whispering against his ear.
"Come inside me. I want to feel you."
He groaned, his whole body tensing, and she felt him spill into her, hot and thick. The sensation pushed her over the edge, and she cried out, her walls clenching around him, milking every drop. They shattered together, clinging to each other as the pleasure peaked and slowly, slowly ebbed.
Afterward, they lay tangled together, sweaty and breathless. Harper traced patterns on his chest, listening to his heartbeat slow.
"What happens when she comes home?" she asked quietly.
Eric's hand stilled on her back. "I don't know."
"We can't keep doing this forever."
"I know."
"But I'm not ready to stop."
He tilted her chin up, meeting her eyes. "Neither am I."
And for now, that was enough. It had to be.
Heart and Heat
The storm had passed, leaving the vineyard washed clean and glistening under the moonlight. Harper stood at the window of the study, her fingers tracing the cool glass as she watched the stars emerge one by one. Behind her, the fire crackled softly, casting dancing shadows across the room's rich mahogany walls and leather-bound books.
She heard his footsteps before she felt his presence, the floorboards creaking in familiar rhythm. Eric's hands found her shoulders, warm and sure, and she leaned back into his chest with a sigh that carried more than exhaustion.
"Can't sleep either?" he murmured, his breath stirring the fine hairs at her temple.
"Too much on my mind." She turned in his arms, her green eyes searching his face in the dim light. "We need to talk, D. Really talk."
His jaw tightened, but he nodded, guiding her to the leather couch before the fire. They sat facing each other, knees almost touching, the space between them thick with unspoken words.
"I've been thinking about what we're doing," Harper began, her voice steadier than she felt. "About what this means. For you. For me. For Lyla."
Eric exhaled slowly, his weathered hands clasped between his knees. "I've thought about little else, sweetheart. Every time I'm with you, I tell myself this has to stop. That I'm risking everything. My family. My marriage. My daughter's trust."
"And yet you're still here." She reached out, her fingers brushing his. "So am I."
"Because I can't stay away." His voice cracked, and he looked up, meeting her gaze with raw honesty. "I've been married for twenty-five years, Harper. Twenty-five years of watching the passion fade, of sleeping in separate beds, of feeling like a ghost in my own home. I told myself it was enough. That I had the vineyard, my work, my daughter. That I didn't need more."
"But you do." It wasn't a question.
"I didn't know how much until you walked through my gates." He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, his face a mask of anguish. "You make me feel alive again. Like I'm not just going through the motions. Like there's still fire in me."
Harper's heart ached at his words. She'd come here seeking adventure, validation, a thrill. But somewhere between the barrel room and the vineyard hideaway, something had shifted. She saw him now, not just as the object of her long-held crush, but as a man trapped in a life that had slowly drained him dry.
"I'm scared," she admitted, the words falling out before she could stop them. "I'm scared of how much I feel for you. I came here thinking this would be a fling. Something exciting to remember. But you're not just a memory, Eric. You're real. And I don't know what to do with that."
He reached for her then, pulling her closer until she was perched on the edge of the couch, her knees bracketing his hips. His hands cupped her face, thumbs brushing her cheekbones with devastating tenderness.
"Tell me what you need, sweetheart. Tell me what you want from me."
She swallowed hard, the vulnerability in his voice stripping away her last defenses. "I need you to see me. All of me. Not just the girl who flirts with you in the tasting room. I need you to want all of me, even the parts that are scared and guilty and confused."
"I do." His voice was fierce, almost angry with conviction. "I want every part of you, Harper. The bold parts. The scared parts. The parts that make you laugh and the parts that keep you up at night. I want all of it."
"Then show me." She leaned in, her lips brushing his. "Don't just tell me. Show me."
The kiss that followed was different from any they'd shared before. Slower. Deeper. More deliberate. It wasn't about hunger or urgency. It was about exploration, about learning each other's rhythms and tastes and textures. His tongue swept against hers with languid strokes, and she melted into him, her hands sliding up his chest to grip the lapels of his flannel shirt.
He laid her back on the couch, his body covering hers with a weight that felt like shelter. The firelight painted his features in gold and shadow, and she reached up to trace the lines around his eyes, the silver in his stubble.
"You're so beautiful," she whispered. "I don't think you know how beautiful you are."
A low sound rumbled in his chest, half laugh, half groan. "I was going to say the same thing about you."
His hands moved slowly, reverently, unbuttoning her blouse with deliberate care. Each inch of skin revealed earned a kiss, a murmur of appreciation. When he finally pushed the fabric aside, exposing her lace-clad breasts, he paused, simply looking at her with an expression that made her feel worshipped.
"Eric, please." She arched into him, needing more. "I need you. All of you."
"I know, sweetheart. I've got you."
He undressed her with the same methodical tenderness, folding each piece of clothing and setting it aside as if it were precious. When she was bare before him, her skin prickling with goosebumps despite the fire's heat, he knelt between her legs and simply looked at her.
"You're shaking."
"Because this matters." She reached for him, tugging at his shirt. "You matter. And I'm terrified of messing this up."
He shed his clothes quickly, his body emerging from the fabric with a grace that belied his age. She'd seen him before, touched him before, but this was different. This was slow and deliberate, every inch of skin a revelation. His chest was broad, dusted with salt-and-pepper hair that trailed down his stomach to where his cock stood hard and thick against his belly. She reached out, her fingers wrapping around him, and he sucked in a sharp breath.
"Easy, sweetheart," he groaned, his hips jerking forward into her grip. "You keep touching me like that and this won't last."
"Then let me touch you." She stroked him slowly, feeling the velvety heat of him, the way he pulsed in her hand. "Let me learn what you like."
He shuddered, his head dropping forward as she worked him with deliberate care. She traced the ridge of him, circled the tip where moisture beaded, squeezed gently. His breathing grew ragged, his hands bracing on the back of the couch as she explored every inch.
"Harper." Her name was a prayer on his lips. "I need to touch you too. Please."
She released him and leaned back, her legs falling open in invitation. He didn't hesitate. His hands slid up her thighs, parting her gently, and he lowered his head between them. The first touch of his tongue was electric, a hot wet stroke that made her cry out and clutch at the leather beneath her.
"Oh god, Eric."
He hummed against her, the vibration sending shockwaves through her core. He tasted her with the same deliberation he'd used to undress her, learning her folds, her hidden places, the spots that made her whimper and writhe. His tongue circled her clit with maddening patience, never quite giving her the pressure she craved.
"Please," she gasped, her hips tilting toward his mouth. "More. I need more."
He responded by sliding two fingers inside her, curling them upward as his tongue finally pressed flat against that swollen bundle of nerves. She shattered almost immediately, her walls clenching around his fingers as the orgasm ripped through her. He worked her through it, his mouth and hands relentless, drawing out every last tremor until she lay boneless and panting beneath him.
When he finally crawled up her body, his lips glistened with her arousal. She pulled him down for a kiss, tasting herself on his tongue, and the intimacy of it made her chest ache with something deeper than desire.
"I need you inside me," she whispered against his mouth. "Now. Please."
He positioned himself at her entrance, the broad head of his cock nudging against her slick opening. She was still trembling from her release, still swollen and sensitive, and the stretch of him as he began to push forward made her gasp.
"Look at me," he commanded softly, and she did, her green eyes locking with his brown ones. "I want you to remember this. Remember that I see you. All of you. And I want you anyway."
Tears pricked at her eyes, but she blinked them back, nodding. "I remember. I'll always remember."
He entered her slowly, inch by agonizing inch, his forehead pressed to hers as he watched her face for any sign of discomfort. She felt herself stretching to accommodate him, her body welcoming him with a heat that bordered on desperate. When he was finally seated fully inside her, he held still, letting her adjust, letting the fullness of him sink in.
"Oh, god, Eric." Her hands gripped his shoulders, nails digging in as she felt him pulse deep within her. "You feel so good. So deep."
"So do you, sweetheart. So damn good." His voice was strained, the muscles in his jaw tight with the effort of holding still. "I don't want to rush this. I want to feel every second."
He began to move, his strokes long and deep and unhurried. Each thrust was a declaration, each retreat a promise to return. She could feel every ridge of him, every vein, the way he throbbed against her inner walls as he pulled almost completely out before sinking back in. The friction built slowly, a steady burn that spread from where they were joined outward through her entire body.
She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, and he groaned against her throat. His hips snapped forward, harder this time, and the angle shifted so he grazed that spot inside her that made stars explode behind her eyes.
"Right there," she gasped, her fingers tangling in his hair. "Don't stop. Right there."
"Is this what you needed?" he asked, his voice rough with emotion. "Tell me."
"Yes. This. You. Everything." She was babbling now, lost in the sensation of being so completely filled, so completely seen. "Don't stop. Please don't stop."
He didn't. He drove into her with a rhythm that felt like poetry, each movement building a pressure that coiled low in her belly. She felt herself climbing, the pleasure mounting with a slowness that was almost unbearable. The fire crackled beside them, the leather creaked beneath their moving bodies, and the sounds of their joining filled the room. Wet, slick sounds of flesh meeting flesh, the ragged cadence of their breathing.
"I'm close," she gasped, her fingers raking down his back. "Eric, I'm so close."
"Let go, sweetheart. I've got you. Let go."
His hand slid between them, his thumb finding her clit with unerring precision, and the added stimulation sent her spiraling. She came with a cry that was half sob, her body arching off the couch as waves of pleasure crashed through her. Her walls clamped down on him hard, milking him, and he followed moments later with a guttural groan, his hips stuttering as he spilled himself inside her in hot, pulsing waves.
They lay tangled together afterward, breathing hard, the fire crackling its approval. Harper's fingers traced lazy patterns on his chest, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She could still feel him inside her, softening but not yet withdrawn, and the intimacy of that connection made her eyes sting with tears she refused to shed.
"This changes things," she said quietly. "We can't pretend this is just physical anymore."
Eric's arm tightened around her, pulling her closer. "I know. I've known it since the night in the barrel room. Maybe even before that."
"What do we do?" She tilted her head to look at him, searching his face for answers. "Lyla's coming in two days. The real world is waiting. What happens to us?"
He was silent for a long moment, his hand stroking her hair with absent tenderness. "I don't have the answers, Harper. I wish I did. All I know is that I don't want to lose you. Not now. Not when I've just found you."
"I don't want to lose you either." She pressed a kiss to his chest, over his heart. "But I'm scared. I'm scared of what happens when Lyla finds out. I'm scared of what happens when your wife comes home. I'm scared of waking up one day and realizing this was all just a dream."
He tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his eyes. "Listen to me. Whatever happens, whatever comes next, this is real. You are real. And I will fight for this. For us. I don't know how yet, but I will."
Harper felt tears slip down her cheeks, but she was smiling. "Promise me."
"I promise." He kissed her forehead, her eyelids, the tip of her nose. "I promise you, Harper. I'm all in."
They made love again, slower this time, more tender. He took her from behind, his chest pressed to her spine, his hands cupping her breasts as he moved in a languid rhythm that built gradually. He reached around to circle her clit as he thrust, whispering against her neck how beautiful she was, how good she felt, how he never wanted this to end. She came with a shudder, her second orgasm deeper than the first, and he followed her over the edge with her name on his lips. It was a conversation without words, a dialogue of touch and breath and shared vulnerability. By the time they finally drifted off to sleep, tangled in each other's arms on the leather couch, the fire had burned down to embers, and the first light of dawn was painting the sky in shades of rose and gold.
Harper woke to the smell of coffee and the sound of birdsong. For a moment, she forgot where she was. Then the memories flooded back, and she smiled, stretching like a cat in the warmth of the morning.
Eric was standing by the window, two mugs in hand, watching her with an expression that made her heart flutter. He crossed to her, offering a mug, and she sat up, accepting it with grateful hands.
"Good morning," he said, his voice rough with sleep and tenderness.
"Good morning." She sipped the coffee, letting the warmth spread through her. "Did you sleep at all?"
"A little." He sat beside her, his knee brushing hers. "Mostly I watched you. Tried to memorize every detail."
She set the mug aside, reaching for him. "Come here."
He came willingly, pulling her into his lap, her legs straddling his hips. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her forehead to his.
"I meant what I said last night," she whispered. "I'm all in too."
"I know, sweetheart. I can feel it." His hands slid down her back, tracing the curve of her spine. "But we need to be careful. Lyla will be here soon, and we can't afford any mistakes."
"I know." She pulled back, her expression serious. "I'll be careful. We'll be careful. But I need you to promise me something."
"Anything."
"Don't shut me out. When things get complicated, when the guilt gets too heavy, don't push me away. Promise me you'll talk to me."
His eyes softened, and he cupped her face in his hands. "I promise. No more walls. No more distance. Just us, figuring this out together."
She kissed him then, a soft, sweet kiss that held all the promises they'd made. When she finally pulled away, she was smiling, her heart lighter than it had been in days.
"We should probably get dressed," she said, glancing toward the window where the sun had risen higher. "Before anyone notices we're missing."
"Probably." He kissed her forehead one last time, then helped her to her feet. "But first, breakfast. I make a mean omelet."
She laughed, the sound bright and genuine. "I'd like that."
As they dressed and moved through the morning, Harper felt a shift inside her. The guilt was still there, a dull ache in her chest. The fear was still there, a whisper at the back of her mind. But underneath it all, there was something new. Something resilient.
She was no longer just a girl chasing a thrill. She was a woman choosing a man, choosing a connection that defied logic and convention. And for the first time since she'd arrived at the vineyard, she felt ready to face whatever came next.
Because whatever it was, they would face it together.
Farewell Vintage
The morning light filtered through the vineyard like honey through a sieve, golden and thick, carrying a sweetness that felt almost unbearable. Harper stood at her bedroom window, watching the rows of vines stretch toward the horizon, and felt the weight of finality settle into her bones.
Today was the last day.
Lyla would arrive by evening, her flight landing at the small regional airport just a short drive from the estate. A short drive was all that separated Harper's secret world from the crashing reality of her best friend's return.
She pressed her palm against the cool glass and let her forehead follow. The past week had reshaped her in ways she hadn't fully processed. Every touch from Eric had rewritten something inside her. Each whispered word had carved new pathways in her heart. And now she had to say goodbye.
Or did she?
The thought lingered as she dressed, choosing a simple white sundress that fell just above her knees. She left her hair loose, the auburn waves catching the morning sun. No makeup. She wanted to feel every sensation today without artifice between her skin and the world.
She found him in the kitchen, pouring coffee into two mugs. He wore a faded flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, revealing those forearms that had held her through so many nights. When he turned, his eyes found hers with an intensity that made her breath catch.
"Morning, Harps."
The nickname hit her differently now. It had always been playful, casual. Now it carried the weight of everything they'd shared.
"Morning." She accepted the mug he offered, letting her fingers brush against his. "I couldn't sleep."
"Neither could I." He didn't look away. "I kept thinking about today."
"Me too." She took a sip of coffee, letting the bitterness ground her. "I don't know how to do this, Eric. I don't know how to let you go."
His jaw tightened. "Then don't."
"What do you mean?"
He set down his mug and moved closer, his hand finding her waist with familiar ease. "I mean we don't have to say goodbye. Not really. This doesn't have to end just because Lyla is coming home."
The words sent a thrill through her, chased immediately by guilt. "But how? We can't just..."
"We can find ways." His thumb traced small circles on her hip. "I have business in the city. You're starting your life there. We can meet. We can steal time."
"You're talking about continuing this." She needed to hear him say it.
"I'm talking about not losing you." His voice dropped, rough with emotion. "I know what we have is complicated. I know it's risky. But Harper, I'm not ready to let you go."
She set down her mug and stepped into him, wrapping her arms around his neck. The embrace felt like coming home and jumping off a cliff at the same time.
"I'm not ready either," she whispered against his shoulder. "But I'm scared."
"So am I." He held her tighter. "But I'm more scared of waking up tomorrow and not having you here."
They stood like that for a long moment, the kitchen clock ticking away the minutes until everything changed. Then he pulled back, cupping her face in his hands.
"I want to spend today with you. Just us. No pretending, no hiding." His thumb traced her cheekbone. "I want to memorize every part of you before I have to share you with the world."
Her heart ached with the sweetness of it. "What did you have in mind?"
He smiled, and it was the smile of the man she'd first met. The one who'd offered her wine and wisdom and slowly stolen her heart.
"Follow me."
He led her out of the house, past the main vineyard rows, past the equipment shed where they'd stolen those frantic moments during harvest. He walked with purpose, his hand never leaving hers, until they reached a small stone building tucked into the hillside. The old wine cellar, she realized. The one he'd mentioned on the first day but never shown her.
He pulled open the heavy wooden door and gestured for her to enter.
The air inside was cool and earthy, carrying the scent of aged oak and fermented grapes. Rows of barrels lined the walls, some dusty with age, others gleaming with recent care. A single bulb hung from the ceiling, casting warm shadows across the space.
"This is where I keep the special vintages," he said, his voice echoing slightly. "The ones that need time to become something extraordinary."
She ran her fingers over the nearest barrel, feeling the rough wood beneath her touch. "Why did you bring me here?"
He moved behind her, his chest pressing against her back, his arms wrapping around her waist. "Because this is where I keep the things I treasure most. Things that need time to mature. Things that become more valuable with patience."
She turned in his arms, looking up at him. "Is that what I am? Something you're storing away?"
"No." He kissed her forehead, her nose, the corner of her mouth. "You're something I want to uncork and savor. Every drop. Every moment."
His lips found hers, and the kiss was different from all the others. It held the weight of goodbye and the promise of tomorrow. It was desperate and tender, hungry yet patient all at once.
She melted into him, her hands finding their way under his flannel, pushing it from his shoulders. He broke the kiss only to pull the shirt off completely, then reached for the zipper of her sundress.
"Wait," she breathed, stopping his hands. "I want to do this right. I want to remember every second."
He nodded, understanding in his eyes. "Then let me worship you."
He unzipped her dress slowly, deliberately, letting the fabric pool at her feet. She stood before him in nothing but her underwear, the cool cellar air raising goosebumps on her skin. He stepped back, his gaze traveling over her with reverence.
"God, you're beautiful." His voice was rough. "I don't think I've ever seen anything more beautiful."
She reached for him, unbuckling his belt with trembling fingers. His jeans fell, then his boxers, until they stood naked before each other in the dim light of the cellar.
He led her to a stack of old wine crates, cushioned with a blanket he'd clearly placed there earlier. He'd planned this, she realized. He'd prepared for this final moment.
"I want to taste you first," he said, guiding her to sit on the blanket. "I want to remember the sound you make when I make you come."
She lay back, the wood rough against her bare skin, and watched as he lowered himself between her thighs. His breath was warm against her, and she shivered in anticipation.
His mouth found her slowly, reverently, his tongue tracing patterns that made her gasp. He was unhurried, savoring every reaction, learning her body all over again. Her hands tangled in his salt-and-pepper hair, pulling him closer as the pleasure built.
"That's it," she heard herself whisper. "Don't stop."
He didn't. He worked her with skill and devotion, bringing her to the edge and backing away, then pushing her closer again. The teasing drove her wild, and she bucked against his mouth, desperate for release.
"Please, Eric." Her voice broke. "Please."
He finally gave her what she needed, his tongue pressing exactly where she needed it, and the orgasm crashed through her like a wave. She cried out, her body arching off the crates, her fingers gripping his hair as the pleasure consumed her.
He didn't stop until she was trembling, oversensitive, pushing him away with weak hands. He crawled up her body, his lips finding hers, and she tasted herself on his tongue.
"Your turn," she said, her voice still shaky.
She pushed him onto his back and straddled him, taking him in her hand and guiding him to her entrance. She sank down slowly, watching his face as she took him inch by inch. His eyes closed, his jaw tightened, and he let out a groan that echoed through the cellar.
"Harper..." His hands found her hips. "You feel incredible."
She began to move, finding a rhythm that made them both gasp. The cellar filled with the sounds of their pleasure, the slap of skin against skin, the moans and whispers that had become as familiar as breathing.
He sat up, wrapping his arms around her, burying his face in her neck. The new angle drove him deeper, and she cried out as he hit a spot that sent sparks behind her eyes.
"I don't want this to end," she whispered against his ear. "I don't want to lose you."
"You won't." His voice was strained, desperate. "I promise you won't."
They moved together, faster now, both chasing the release that hovered just out of reach. His hand found where they joined, his fingers pressing against her, and the added stimulation sent her over the edge.
She came with a cry that was half pleasure, half pain. The grief of goodbye mingled with the ecstasy of the moment, and she held him tighter as the waves rolled through her.
He followed moments later, his body tensing, his groan muffled against her shoulder. She felt him pulse inside her, felt the warmth of his release, and she clung to him as if she could hold onto this moment forever.
They stayed like that, joined and trembling, for a long time. The cellar was silent except for their breathing, the dust motes dancing in the light.
Finally, he spoke. "This isn't goodbye, Harper. This is just the beginning of something new."
She pulled back to look at him, seeing the vulnerability in his eyes. "How do we do this?"
"We find time. We take risks. We trust each other." He cupped her face. "I have a business trip to the city next month. I'll book a hotel. You'll come to me."
"And Lyla?"
"We'll be careful. We'll be smart." His thumb traced her lip. "She doesn't have to know. Not until we're ready."
The guilt was there, sharp and persistent. But so was the desire, the need, the love she was only beginning to understand.
"Okay," she said. "Okay."
He kissed her again, soft and sweet. "I'll call you every night. I'll text you every morning. And when I see you again, I'm going to spend the whole weekend reminding you why this is worth it."
She smiled, though her eyes were wet. "Promise?"
"Promise."
They dressed slowly, stealing kisses between buttons and zippers. When they finally emerged from the cellar, the sun was high overhead, and the vineyard glowed with golden light.
They walked back to the house hand in hand, and Harper felt the weight of the day pressing down on her. Lyla would be here soon. The secret would have to be buried deeper. But for now, in this moment, she had Eric's hand in hers, and that was enough.
As they rounded the corner of the house, Harper's phone buzzed. A text from Lyla.
"Landing in 2 hours! Can't wait to see you! Get ready for the best birthday celebration ever!"
Harper looked at the message, then at Eric. He read it over her shoulder and squeezed her hand.
"Two hours," he said.
"Two hours." She took a breath. "Then we'll figure out the rest."
He pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her temple. "We will. Together."
And as the afternoon sun bathed the vineyard in warmth, Harper let herself believe it. This wasn't an ending. It was a beginning. A dangerous, complicated, thrilling beginning.
And she was ready for it.
